Why locals recommend it
It’s exciting cycling along the canal here with my daughter on the front of my bike. There’s a skate park and two imaginative playgrounds, one for younger kids and one with big slides (put sand on to make them faster!). In summer try the splash pool, fishing, boating lake, gigs at the bandstand, and puppet shows. Make a day of it by starting with scrambled eggs or Sri Lankan breakfast of coconut pancakes with chutneys at the child-friendly Pavilion Cafe nearby, or buy picnic stuff from the shops on Lauriston Road and set up lunch as soon as the kids are hungry.
Tips from locals
The Pavilion Cafe in Victoria Park is about 7 mins walk. It serves amazing breakfast and lunch, outstanding coffee and a selection of deli goods. There are also numerous cafes on Roman Road, Mae + Harvey, Zealand Cafe, and Cafe East being popular choices
A wonderful spot for lunch and breakfast right by the West Lake. Highly Recommend
Great coffee, delicious food and high quality produce (also great bakery goods to take home) in a peaceful lakeside setting in Victoria Park. A great spot to stop en route / meet / mid walk.
