Stilt Fishermen This is traditional fishing method of Sri Lanka which spread only southern province which comes generation to generation. A fishermen sitting on a narrow pole by many hours without using bait, and catching fish by their experience on morning and evening. Those fishermen with a huge patient because they wait many hours to capture fish. They believe morning and evening are the best and precious time for catching fish. Stilt fishing with a more than 350 years history where find only Koggala, Midigama or Weligama areas. Annually the popularity of the excursions increasing and many people visit this tremendous way of living method.

One of unique way of living by Ceylonese who live in Southern Part of Sri Lanka it comes generation to generation. A fishermen who sitting on a very narrow stick make fishing without using bait. Therefore waiting many hours and it is something blended with patient and those fishermen only fishing morning, noon and evening. It has a long history which goes up to more than many centuries. Koggala, Midigama and Weligama are well-known for stilt fishing. According to folk tales this fishing method goes up to Second World War II before that started this fishing method.
