If you would like to explore a little outside the city I would suggest taking the metro north upstate. The ride is completely beautiful and right along the hudson river. You can also take this train down to 42nd street. More comfy then the local 1 train but more expensive.

The MetroNorth Marble Hill Station is within walking distance for good walkers (about 20 blks) or a 5 min. taxi ride.

15 minute express train rides to Grand Central station. Pricing varies depending on hour of day, ranges from $4-8 each way. Pleasant and scenic ride with reliable schedule.
