The garden of a former Turkish guest worker has an interesting story to tell about times during the Berlin wall. Do some research on that! Right behind the church is, where the Berlin Wall once stood. There are two lots that have been grown into Turkish “victory gardens” with accompanying sheds. It was East German territory that ran along the western side of the wall and therefore fell outside of either jurisdiction. People used to leave their garbage on that place and nobody on the west side of the wall cared till the Turkish guest worker decided to clean up the place and use it as his garden, not knowing he was on East German territory. At the Mariannenplatz you can also finde the formerly occupied Georg von Rauch-Haus, named after Georg von Rauch (activist from The Movement 2nd June) which was shot by a policeman.
