The construction of the Kutubia Mosque began in 1141 at the request of the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mumin, and attracted particular attention for the height of its minaret and its pink sandstone colour, typical of the city. Its name, which means in French «mosque of booksellers», comes from the many book stalls that surrounded the monument after its completion. The minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque is 69 metres high; This is the highest view of all of Marrakech. This impressive religious building is 90 metres long and 60 metres wide. As with other mosques in the city, the entrance is reserved for Muslims.

Soaring over Marrakech and the meeting point in the heart of the city. The Koutoubia Mosque was built during the 12th century by the Almohad dynasty. Today, at 70 meters high, the minaret remains the highest structure and the Koutoubia Mosque the largest mosque in Marrakech. source : thecluturetrip.com

The Koutoubia mosque is probably Marrakech's most famous icon after Djema el Fna. Being the tallest mosque in the city is also a faboulous orintation point. No 4 sides are identical. Not open to non muslims, but do visit the gardens.
