Older houses tend to be dismantled in general.However, in order to preserve the old things, we carefully cared for ourselves and prepared to welcome you to use it as an asset.There is a spacious Japanese garden and an authentic tea room in the Japanese-style room, so you can experience it while living in Japanese culture. On the other hand, we have a range of furniture and appliances that are easy to use.We are pursuing cultural enjoyment and ease of living at the same time. There are seasonal garden trees in the garden, so I think you can enjoy them throughout the season. My hobby is collecting bonsai and traditional Japanese pottery.While living at this inn, I hope you can experience Real Japan on a daily basis with Japanese culture. I would love for you to take your time and enjoy your stay and the culture in the historic and charming town of Furukawa, where I was born and raised. The accommodation 'Shidamura no Hanare' is just over an hour's drive from the city, surrounded by the peaceful scenery of a nature-rich satoyama (traditional community forest)."Hanare in Shimomura" was named after our family business. The accommodation can be separated from a compact but private space, and you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons from the garden room.In this area, cars were not yet popular in the early Showa period, and mainly horses, cows, goats, chickens, etc. were raised and lived in horse shops.There is a renovated horse house on our property, making it a quaint space.The horse house is also a private space for guests.Children are welcome, up to one small dog is ok. In addition, although it is seasonal, you can enjoy shiitake picking, bamboo shooting, strawberry picking, yuzu harvesting, and more.

Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.
