The time here is memorable not only for what you see, but also for the temperature of the air, the feel of the soles of your feet, and the quietness of the sounds. It's nice to talk to someone, or to spend time alone. I hope this place is a place where you can take a little distance from your daily life and check your own outline. The name "Ootan" we wanted to create an inn where you can encounter landscapes, air, people, words, and stories you have never encountered before. A little story will surely be born in this space where you spend your time.

[Kyomachiya Rental] 115-year-old Kyomachiya · Takasegawa Shichijo

Kyomachiya Private Rental "Takasegawa Shichijo" is an accommodation facility that has been fully renovated from a 115-year-old kyomachiya. The kyomachiya, which forms the beautiful scenery of Kyoto, has been redesigned as a building with high airtightness and thermal insulation performance, while retaining the original structure, so that you can enjoy a comfortable stay during Kyoto's unique hot and humid summers and harshly cold winters. From the Japanese-style room on the first floor, you can see the tsubo garden, which is designed to resemble a "roji" (*the garden that leads to the tea room). There is also a sofa in the hallway where you can relax and enjoy the view of the tsubo garden. In the evening, you can spend a relaxing time watching the illuminated tsubo garden. There are two bedrooms on the second floor: a Japanese-style room with two single beds and a Western-style room with two single beds. If there are 5 or more guests, we will set up a futon in the Japanese-style room on the ground floor for you to use as a bedroom. The kitchen is equipped with cooking utensils and tableware so you can prepare simple meals.

This house is a former teahouse (ochaya) built more than 100 years ago on the central island of Kyoto. This traditional townhouse (machiya) has been entirely refurbished in order to comfortably accommodate a family with 2 bedrooms upstairs and 2 bathrooms on each floor. The kitchen is well equipped so you can prepare foods. The neighborhood is located between the main river of Kyoto, and a canal, it is quiet yet in the city center. Dues to its position it was called the island: shima 島🏝️

With this quintessential double story historical townhouse that looks out to the Kamo River, the renovation is kept minimal in order to best preserve its authenticity, especially the courtyard where light enters. The wooden structure, partial wall, entryway, and the garden stones are some of the original elements that are conserved while the roofing tiles, wooden windows, and paper doors have since been replaced. The translucence is throughout the house we see and experience now.

[TABITABI・kawama]

｢Tabitabi Kawama｣is located between Kamo-river and Takase-river, and the word 〝Kawama〞means inter-river in Japanese. On the second floor, there is a specially-built independent balcony facing to Kamo-river. Opening the window, you could enjoy the breeze from the Kamo-river, to feel the charm of the mother river "Kamogawa" Kyoto. The design of house is based on the traditional Japanese style, such as wallpaper made of tinfoil and traditional tatami.

Loft on top of a machiya

This is a unique loft space on top of a rare 3 floors machiya located on the central island of Kyoto. On the top floor of HASU former ryokan, we have designed an ensuite appartement with 2 rooms that are like 2 small houses. One room is located on the East side, and the other on the West side, they both have their own shower. The house was renovated in 2020 in order to offer an authentic experience in an ancient ryokan, with a contemporary comfort.
