Wallaby Creek Retreat Farm Cottage

ScottRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We loved this place!! It was so nice to be ‘off the grid’ for a few days. The place is neat and tidy and the location is perfect. The house sits up on a hill in farmland overlooking the National Park. The outside fire pit is the highlight and the night skies are huge! The hosts Tanya and Ben (who are way over on the other side of the property) were great and made us feel welcome. There is a small town 15 minutes away if you need supplies but you might find that you don’t want to leave.

"Hillview", a quiet country escape with views.

BrianRating, 5 stars2 days ago
Our stay at Hillview was absolutely amazing. The views were spectacular. The accomodation was cozy and comfortable. Our time there was so restful and refreshing to the soul. The host…just wow!…Julie went over and above making our stay one we won’t forget. She is an amazing person with some amazing life stories. Oh and even when we opened the fridge, we found fruit, fresh farm eggs and also some bacon…along with so much more. The BBQ grill did a fantastic job of producing mouth watering steaks. All I can say is that there is something special about the Hillview property and Julie, the host. Hope to return and experience the country life again. (Oh by the way, loved seeing the baby lambs!)

Twisted Gum Vineyard Cottage

NavidRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved our stay in the vineyard cottage. It had everything we needed and was a great starting point for visiting the different wineries. The wine tasting with Tim was incredible and he was a great person to have chats with. Also gave us good recommendations on what to do and was super flexible with check in and check out. Thanks Tim!

We loved this place, right on the border and felt right at home (even if it had Maroons merchandise plastered everywhere 😂) Easy to access, great pool table and comfortable and clean. Up the blues!

Historic Cottage on working Rare Breeds Farm

EmilyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a fantastic time with our kids (ages 9 and 6) and 2-year-old Wolfhound mix! The cottage was easy to find and well-signed. Communication with Judy and Gina was great! The kids were delighted by the cattle and sheep that greeted us on our drive into the property. This is a real farm experience with animals right outside the door. The cabin is beautiful, cosy, and clean, with all the modern amenities you need. Just bring a few meals to cook for your stay. Gina was so friendly and informative as she showed us around! We kept our dog on a leash around the cabin as she was a little too interested in the ducks, but there are plenty of areas where she was able to run and play off leash where she wasn't disturbing the farm animals. The kids loved feeding the farm animals, including feeding the cows, ducks, and sheep by hand. They also loved kayaking (kayaks, paddles, and life jackets all available). Plenty to do and perfect for kids and dogs! We will definitely be back!

Your guide to Stanthorpe

All About Stanthorpe

While Australia’s southern regions often steal the spotlight for fine wines, it seems outstanding grapes can grow in Queensland just as well. In fact, the vineyards around Stanthorpe set Australian records for being among the highest of their kind in the country, set in the mountainous Great Dividing Range, shrouded in native bushland. Part of Queensland’s Granite Belt near the border with New South Wales, this southern pocket of the state enjoys a climate ideal not only for nurturing grapes, but also for tropical rainforest and the national parks that contain it. Welcome to a getaway where you begin your day walking, and end it with wine.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Stanthorpe

Due to its elevation, Stanthorpe is one of the few places in Queensland that experiences four seasons. During the summer months (December through February), when the vines are plump with grapes, you can enjoy balmy daytime temperatures of around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Then in winter (June through August), you can cozy up around a fire thanks to daytime temperatures near 62 degrees. Chilly winter nights can see snow dusting the fields, earning Stanthorpe the reputation as the coldest town in Queensland.

Top things to do in Stanthorpe

The Big Apple

Aside from grapes, apple orchards dominate the Granite Belt countryside around Stanthorpe. To pay homage, locals have erected a Big Apple, one of many oversized fruit structures around the continent. Visit during harvest (February to May) to pick apples straight from the surrounding trees, and then take a photo in front of this larger-than-life Queensland icon.

Truffle Discovery Centre

The rolling hills of Stanthorpe are home to stellar vineyards with cellar doors and cafes where you can sample their specialty Shiraz and Chardonnay. In this part of Queensland you’ll also discover standout dairy farms and estates growing rare French black Périgord truffles, fungi so precious that some joke they need their own bodyguards to protect them. At the Truffle Discovery Centre, you can take a guided tour of the truffière and enjoy tastings of this coveted delicacy, whether infused in brie, oil, or honey.

Girraween National Park

Covering 29,000 acres, this national park is less about bushland and more about surreal natural rock formations. Wind, water, and ice have carved the granite boulders here, which today balance in gravity-defying positions, often resembling oversized cartoon characters. Most walks begin at the Bald Rock Creek Camping Area, and range from an easy stroll to a daylong, mountainous adventure.
