Sited on Bamff Estate, the Scottish Woodland Skills Centre has a purpose built training venue; a large hard-standing area, a grass activity space surrounded by woodland, and an off-grid wooden bothy, powered by a wind turbine, heated by a wood stove and built by volunteers from recycled materials. Courses range from wood carving to knife making, chainsaw use to teenage adventure days and more. They have a programme of regular courses, mostly running at weekends, and also offer drop in activity sessions every Wednesday during school holidays. Bespoke activities for groups can be arranged. http://www.scottishwoodlandskillscentre.co.uk/

Food Scene

The Wee Bear is a lovely little cafe, near the Loch of Lintrathen Reservoir. It is family run and has delicious, wholesome food and a friendly atmosphere. However, it is closed on a Tuesday and Wednesday so make sure you know when you will be around! If you are confident, you could take the 2 hour walk there, and take a look at the Loch while you're at it.

The Alyth fish and chips have been deemed the best in Scotland, and rightly so. Friendly staff, great chips, and better fish. What more could you ask for?

Shopping

Although Glenshee Pottery is a bit further afield than some of the businesses near Bamff, it is really worth a visit. As well as a small cafe, they hand throw their own pottery. With a lovely atmosphere and really intricate and beautiful pottery on sale, the half hour drive is a small price to pay. Their phone number is 01250 882 238

The shop at Peel Farm has lots of upmarket gifts and trinkets, as well as a small farm shop selling eggs, meat and various other types of local produce. There is also a small cafe on site, and you can take a short, signposted walk to the gorge where the river Isla flows, past the herd of deer that live on site.

Sightseeing

Mount Blair is one of the most prominent and iconic hills of the Glenisla/Alyth area. With a relatively easy walk up, the views are to die for. If you decide to venture up the hill on a very clear day, you can even see the 50 miles to the Forth road bridge in Edinburgh, or so they say.
