Time for lunch or just a quick coffee? This old factory is now a perfect stop for a cuppa and cake, chatting with friends or hanging out with a book. There's a fun corner for wee kids and a great staff team who'll look after you very well.

From breakfast to lunch and beyond -this quirky, warm and friendly place is full of local characters seated at the tables and behind the counter. The best breads, breakfasts and lunches imaginable - from honest soup to spicy black pudding and tame bacon and eggs: it's brilliant. Their bowls of coffee are generous and their prices are reasonable. They don't do Mondays - but every other day this is a hipster haven.

Giapo is worth travelling to Auckland city centre for, just to taste and enjoy the most excellent gelato imaginable. In fact, this is ice-cream as you imagine it to be - full of taste, full of goodness and just plain fantastic. It is an experience just to be served there, presented with the menu (THE MENU!) and to consider the options, the multiple samples - it is the best! Go - try it, it's a must!

The view of the city centre at night is truly amazing but to be honest the food is so mind-blowingly amazing you won't be looking at the view. The highest of Haute Cuisine - try it for a very special evening out, the wine matching is both perfect and plentiful. Can't recommend this highly enough but it is expensive - but you won't remember the pain of the bill after the exquisite delight of the food.

a busy restaurant and oyster bar in the heart of the city centre, under the Sky Tower. It has great service, superb menu choices and an upper-mid price range - a great place to end a day out or begin a night on the town.

This is THE place to go for a quiet coffee or to connect with the local community. The staff are young, friendly and vibrant but the feel of the place is VERY chill. Join in a conversation or find a place for quiet reading or reflection. A cafe that gives back supporting orphaned children in India and providing a place of community for many here in the local area. This really is a MUST visit and the food is top class. Try the mince on toast with a poached egg on top! You won't regret it. The coffee is their own roast and available for purchase.

Sightseeing

The drive to Piha alone is worth the trip - as the road snakes down to this beach settlement the views are stunning but the beach itself is breathtaking. For surfers this the THE place - but take care it's a rough and ready place and swimming should be done with caution and only between the flags. Walking the length of North Piha beach is WELL worth the time and effort. It's a luminous place, don't miss it while you're out west.
