Parks and Nature Trails

"This sprawling 180-acre public park and conservancy in Midtown offers everything you'd want from an urban park: a greenmarket, a dog run, a community garden, playgrounds, and more. Green space may be coveted in any city, but in here in Atlanta, the free public pool and splash pad are where locals flock on a scorching day. Best of all, Atlanta's diversity is evident in the crowd and communities that congregate in this historic public space" -cntraveler

"This is an obvious choice for the list. With the main chunk located in the Virginia Highlands (although it is rapidly expanding), the new and beloved Atlanta Beltline has become a runners dream. Come stop by the flat and long (over 5 miles and growing) trail and run til your legs fall off!" - uncoveratlanta

Stretching over 200 acres and touching more than 7 of our beloved intown neighborhoods, Freedom Park offers the Atlanta community a beautiful way to get outdoors. The main attractions are the beautiful grasses (of course) but also the miles of paved trails! You can find people running, walking and biking all over Atlanta using the paved pathways. It’s also deemed the “Art Park” for its installations of all kinds of art!" - uncoveratlanta

Developed for the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Centennial Olympic Park helped revitalize a stretch of downtown Atlanta. The 21-acre site includes a large plaza, where a Fountain of Ring shoots up concentric circles of water—perfect to frolic through on a hot day—and plenty of green space for relaxation and picnics. Some 430,000 commemorative engraved bricks pave granite bands around the park. There’s a brick locator map, so that visitors can find either their own brick or that of a family member or friend. In all, this is a fantastic respite from the most chaotic part of the city." -cntraveler

"This 131 acre park has been part of the Atlanta community since the 1850’s, making it the oldest one in the entire city. The rolling hills and green spaces result in one of the prettiest landscapes in the city. Despite being a huge area, Grant Park is rarely busy and makes it a great place if you are looking to quietly relax outside. Some amenities include a baseball field, tennis and basketball courts and tons of walking and biking paths. It’s also includes Zoo Atlanta!" - uncoveratlanta

"Located a few miles southeast of Atlanta in a town called Lithonia, Arabia Mountain is in our opinion one of the best hikes in the area. We love it because you get so many different terrains in one hike. Depending on which path you take, you can be on the rocky mountain, a beautiful grassy trail, or in a sandy forest. There is also the highly endangered diamorpha plant which is so cool to look at! (But don’t touch!) Parking here gets crazy so be sure to go during the week or make sure you leave early in the morning." -uncoveratlanta
