Food Scene

This is the best ice cream shop in lower Alabama and a local favorite. They have a rotating assortment of ice cream as well as other food items. Locals love it here and it is must visit for our family. It is reminiscent of an ice cream bar from the 50's and super cool. The employees are friendly, local high school kids who are friendly and mannerly. (Don't forget to tip them. They really appreciate it.) 😉

This is a great place for Pizza (and not a dispensary like I initially thought). Expect it to be busy during the weekend, but it's well worth the wait. The pizza is delicious and the flavors are psychedelic. It's a cool atmosphere and there's a bar, but it's great for family's, groups, or couples.

Sightseeing

Nothing says, Small-town USA than this adorable monument in the center of downtown main street. Just a short 2 minutes drive up the road from your Airbnb, this monument to crop destroying pest may seem peculiar. But go into any store and ask a local about story of the Bowl Weevil and you're sure to hear a story of how this little pest ushered in an era of prosperity for the area. Where else can you find murals, statues, and sculptures of a bug? You'll enjoy it. (Even more exciting if you visit during a homecoming or parade.)

Walking and biking trails, beautiful fields, playgrounds, and a pond, this park is perfect to workout or just to chill. It's well lit and even my own wife (a self professed scaredy cat) feels safe and comfortable here. We have spent hours and afternoons here. It is a fun and interesting place to spend some time.

Southern Hospitality

As adopted Southerners, we initially expected Southern Hospitality to be as depicted on movies. We would just stroll into town and service would be rolled out for us. Instead, we have learned the secret to Southern Hospitality is taking a moment to shoot the breeze and asking them about their home. As soon as you open up with a, "Can you believe this weather...?" or try, "We're staying at Mrs. Marshes old place. Did you grow up here?" Then you'll see them open right up.
