Just a beautiful space to be in, even if you're not excited about the art. But of course the art is fantastic. I recommend getting a drink at The Modern - the bar/restaurant on the first floor.

The museum is focused around Himalayan art, but they also have a fantastic cabaret cinema series where they show films and then have interesting cultural figures speak about them afterwards. You can bring your glass of wine or cocktail into the theater with you.

The word "museum" does not properly describe this fascinating place, which consists of several 19th century tenement and factory buildings that have not been altered since the early 20th century - go on one of the tours to get a fascinating glimpse of what life was like on the lower east side 100 year ago. And the gift shop is great!

Drinks & Nightlife

The Top of the Standard (bar/restaurant on top floor) is a major scene - expensive and fancy - I would at least go for a drink at the bar just for the fun of it. Le Bain is the more casual, night-clubby bar on the top floor - they have a "plunge pool" in the dance floor during the summer!
