Sightseeing

The reputation is well-earned. It is a Copenhagen cliché, but don’t let that turn you off the world’s second oldest theme park. You’ll find a whole host of rides and traditional games, plus live theatre and a beautiful Japanese garden.

City advice

Getting around

Copenhagen has great public transportation

Public transportation is fast, reliable and convenient. Day tickets usually work out cheaper than single journeys, weekly tickets better than day tickets. The best option is a “pre-paid” smartcard (Rejsekort), which can be bought at Metro stations (and the airport) from DOT ticket machines. You can “load” the card with money at the same machine. Thereafter, just tap the card to check in and out of your trips by tapping the card on the big blue circle. Public transportation schedules are available at the DOT website https://dinoffentligetransport.dk/ as well as DOT mobile apps.
What to pack

It's not as cold as you might imagine

While located at a high latitude (55.68° N, i.e. slightly lower than Edinburgh), Copenhagen has relatively mild climate due to the Atlantic Gulf Stream. Spring sees temperatures from 5.5 C (low 40s F) in March to 15.5C (60 F) in May, and considerable sea breezes. Days are extraordinarily long in the summer but the temperatures average 20 C (68 F), and rarely rise beyond 25 C (77 F). In the autumn, temperatures fall from 18 C (62 F) in September to 7 C (45 F) in November. In the winter, if a high-pressure system is concentrated near the Swiss Alps, then expect above freezing temperatures.
Ways to save

Irma is the most expensive supermarket

Irma is the Waitrose, i.e. higher end supermarket, of Denmark. Other common supermarkets are Bilka, Føtex, Lidl, Netto, Rema 1000, Super Brugsen, etc. The Rema near Vestamager Metro closes 10pm. The Bilka at Field's mall at Ørestad Metro is open 7am - 11pm.
