Sightseeing

It is a very popular tourist destination all year round. It has a few eateries, things to see like the cemetery and to do like riding on the railway or touring the long tunnel mine. For more active people there is the climb to the cricket ground which is a challenge to say the least.

Neighbourhoods

My part of Traralgon is close to the CBD and largely flat so walking there is achievable in a short time (10 mins) and with little effort. In the other direction a 10-min walk will get you to the Railway Reservoir Park which is unique in that it's close enough to enjoy some exercise in a short space of time. People of all fitness levels will be able to enjoy walking around it. It's not all flat so for those in a wheelchair or similar some parts would be challenging. The path around the lake is the best route in this case. For bird lovers/watchers it is highly recommended as there is a hide that can accommodate a small group. There are toilets and seating, plenty of shade and has been host to wedding parties for photos so that gives you some idea as to the scenery. Dogs are welcome (restrained as there are birds around that need to be protected) and there is a small car park accessible off Hickox Street. For other active guests there is a recreation oval at the end of the street so if kicking a footy around or hitting a cricket ball appeals then they are most welcome to use it when available. Of course when there are games on if watching local sport appeals it's not too far to go to enjoy it. There are cricket nets on one side of the oval. If you don't mind walking up a hilly path a 20 min walk will get you to a small group of shops where there's a pizza shop and a Chinese take-away. If you time your visit right on the rare occasion a short walk will get you to the railway line where you can see a steam train pass through. It never fails to bring people out to watch it go by as there are plenty of places to stand and watch or park your car if necessary. Depending on the train it may even stop at the station long enough for keen photographers to take some snaps.
