My favorite restaurants

Our small town has a few good restaurants and even a little variety. What you cannot find in Martinsville is available 30 minutes away in Danville (58 West), or 60 minutes away in Roanoke (220 North).
Whether you want an excellent dinner, or just drinks and good service, even live entertainment some nights, definitely give Rania's a try. They are located downtown on Main Street, about 3-4 miles from Indian Summer Home. They have a variety of Italian and American dishes. See their website for details.

If you like Chinese or Thai dishes, then you will love Chopstix. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. They also have a bar. Sushi? Sashimi? They have it all. Including lunch specials. Conveniently located on Commonwealth Blvd., they are only about 7 miles away, and you can go by the Liberty Fair Mall and shop while you build up an appetite on your way.

For a great breakfast bar in the mornings, and salad/hot food bar in the afternoons, this is one of the area's most popular restaurants. Casual, family dining atmosphere and homestyle American cuisine with very reasonable prices!

If you love New York style pizza, this is the BEST place in town! They don't deliver, but they have a newly enlarged dining room for eat-in, or you can carry-out. Prices are competitive, and you will not be disappointed! If you are not in the mood for pizza, try their Super Special Cheese Steak Hoagie or even a big salad with chicken strips. They have another location on 220 N in Collinsville about 12 miles in the opposite direction.

If you want atmosphere, a variety of American dishes, infamous lunch specials, sports bar TVs, or just a quick drink, this is your place! They also have great coffee. The owner loves greeting visitors from out of town and showing them Martinsville's brand of small-town hospitality along with southern-style good food! Located about 6 miles away downtown on Church Street.

Who needs Starbucks when you have the Daily Grind! What better way to start the day than regular or specialty coffee with a croissant or breakfast sandwich? Or late risers might want to have the "best tuna melt in town" or a Reuben for brunch! They are even open for dinner, so, for between $5-$12 each, you can enjoy a quick meal in a comfortable atmosphere, and only about 4 miles away, downtown on Church Street.

If you love the huge buffet offered by some restaurants, Golden Corral is the best place around! The food is truly excellent, and I have been to a lot of food bars over the years, but this one is superior! Just go hungry, I mean VERY hungry, because there are way too many choices! Trust me, you are going to want a spoonful of everything you see!

There is something for everyone at Philpott. Plenty of fishing and boating! Do you like sitting out on the grass looking out at the water and contemplating life while holding hands with your loved one? Do it all day! The park is open sunup to sunset! So bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it at one of the picnic tables. There are even public bathrooms. After lunch you can hike down to the dam and explore a bit. Make sure to read the signs posted before you go hiking down to lower ground. You don't want to be stuck down low when water is released from the bottom of the dam at a certain time every day. Talk about washing all your cares away!!

Swimming, boating, just hanging out under the picnic shelter while doing a cookout. There are many things to do at Fairystone. You can even look for fairy stones to take home. Make sure to research the legend of the fairystones so that your souvenirs are more meaningful!

Some people like to bowl and socialize over drinks to relax on a Friday night. Depending on what night you go, you could even join in for Karaoke fun, or some nights there is even a live band; local talent.
