With a few locations around town, this place is staple ramen restaurant and some of the best I’ve ever had. If you aren’t going during off hours, plan to spend some time in line waiting to get inside. The one up north (closest to the house) is my location of choice.

My all-time favorite restaurant in Austin. All pretenses are dropped here, where a mouthwatering tasting menu is always available with fantastic service, a quiet atmosphere, and without the need to dress to the nines. Each dish is unique, seasonal, and decadent. I hope you love it as much as I do if you decide to go!

A close second to Sangam in terms of authentic, delicious Indian food. Slightly better atmosphere, you might find yourself dining in the cellar!

If you have some time and love beer, definitely go to Jester King. It’s a well-loved local, authentic farmhouse brewery committed to making wild ales and spontaneously fermented beers that reflect the unique character of their location in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. If you don’t have time to go all the way out to Jester King, you can try Austin Beerworks as a closer brewery alternative!

World-famous sushi restaurant with a phenomenal tasting menu (you may also order a la carte). I recommend booking a reservation and dressing up for this place if you decide to splurge. You will occasionally see celebrities here, too!

The creative, sometimes intimidating, dishes here are always very good. It is expensive and you may have to work to get the attention of staff, but the food is undeniably some of the best in Austin. Best to do this one when you’re not adhering to a timeline!

Come for the manmosas, stay for the incredible live music! If you're going on a weekend, get there before the bar opens. The line gets long very quickly.

Nightlife

This place is a tad more mellow than 6th (but I wouldn’t call it mellow). Less crowded, but also has plenty of typical club scenes with live music, themed bars, and drinks that range from fast n’ cheap to carefully hand-crafted and pricey. It’s relatively easy to hit all the bars on this street in one night.

6th street - This is like reliving your college days (for better or for worse). They shut down the street on weekend evenings for everyone to roam freely. You’ll be in the company of thousands of people and will have access to many bars with games, live music, karaoke, and $1 shots. My favorites are Midnight Cowboy (a speakeasy that you’ll need a reservation for), Handlebar (a great bar with a rooftop lounge), and The Roosevelt Room (a town favorite with excellent small bites, a Gatsby-like atmosphere, and cocktails that are to die for).
