Food Scene

A small Northwestern-style deli with crazy good pizza, nestled in a tiny, 1940s shopping center. Try the Mediterranean pizza, the vegetarian sandwich and their crisp Greek salad. Pick up a cold beer at the quaint grocery store next door, and enjoy it with your meal at the shaded picnic tables.

On the "Best in America" list of burger joints. Literally a 6-minute walk away. A bit pricey for a burger, but your taste buds will thank you. The Magic Shroom and Ahi Tuna burgers are incredible, and don't miss out on the Truffle Fries and a Baby Kale salad with watermelon chunks.

Drinks & Nightlife

Austin's first absinthe bar, and they offer fantastic craft cocktails in a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food as well. Pro Tip: Ask the bartenders for recommendations. All of them have designed their own specialty cocktails, and I've never been disappointed when I try them!

Parks & Nature

One of Austin's gems. A 3-acre spring-fed pool, complete with grassy hillsides for sunning, diving board and lifeguards. A favorite in-town getaway for us locals, and the 68 degree water year-round makes it the perfect way to refresh from the summer heat. Tops are optional for the ladies at Barton, and you'll find a very relaxed, Austin vibe here. Pro Tip #1: Entry for local residents is $3,and $8 for out-of-towners. Just say you're a resident -- they never check :) Pro Tip #2: Get the cold spring experience for free! Just below the dam for the pool is what we call "Barking Springs", because it's free to swim in the creek, and folks like to bring their dogs. Plenty of cool spring water for everyone :)

My personal favorite local grocery store chain. Everything you'd expect from a market, with excellent prices, fantastic staff and lots of locations around town. 2 stores within 5 minutes of our place. Pro Tip: No liquor in Texas grocery stores, but plenty beer/wine. On Sunday you can only buy beer/wine, and only from 11:00pm - midnight.
