Your guide to Wynnum

All About Wynnum

Wynnum is a bayside suburb on the shores of Moreton Bay located just outside of Brisbane. The action centres around a beautiful esplanade, where you can enjoy cooling breezes and views over to the islands of Moreton Bay. There are also plenty of pathways for walking, jogging, and bike riding, and you can even venture south to the nearby town of Manly. The historic town of Wynnum also has a wonderful village with great restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and galleries.

The saltwater heritage-listed Wynnum Wading Pool, originally constructed in the 1930s, recently underwent a renovation and is a fantastic swimming spot. There’s also a brightly coloured slide and adjacent water park and playground. You can also take a stroll down Wynnum Pier, where you’ll enjoy gorgeous views over the bay. While you’re there, you might have the opportunity to catch one of the many yacht races that takes place in the harbour year-round.

The Wynnum Fringe in November brings together all sorts of theatre, music, and other performing artists together for a two-day performing arts festival. Summer highs are usually in the high 20 degree Celsius, but there are occasionally hot and wet spells. Winters are mild, with temperatures averaging about 15 degrees Celsius. The Myora Cup Yacht Race brings beautiful yachts from around the area and is exciting to watch from the Esplanade.

Top things to do in Wynnum

Wynnum Mangrove Broadwalk

Stretching from the mouth of the Brisbane River via the Fisherman Islands, Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk meanders through a small section of a vast area of mangrove forest. Part of the walk has a platform that juts out into the sea and offers fantastic views of the bay. Visit at low tide in order to see the hive of activity of crab and sea creature scampering amongst the mangrove roots.

Farmers Market Manly

The idea behind this farmer’s market which started 30 years ago, developed from a commitment to supporting local farmers and their livelihoods, as well as access to farm-fresh produce. The market also includes crafts, clothing, homemade baked goods, and prepared meals. The Manly market (there are two other markets in the Brisbane area) is open on the Manly Harbour Royal Esplanade every first and third Saturday of the month.

Manly Harbour

Known as the place where “Brisbane meets the Bay,” it’s wonderful to explore this area on foot as well as by water. You can take advantage of sailing activities, or kayak into the Moreton Bay Marine Park to see the many islands of the bay. There’s also beautiful wildlife in the bay, you might even come across an occasional dolphin or dugong “sea cow” out for a swim.
