History Museum
“Winston-Salem originally was two separate towns, Winston & Salem, until 1913. The town of Salem was settled by the Moravians, a religious group from Germany. The Moravians original settlement is preserved in the nearby living-museum and gardens. Visitors can interact with period-dressed actors, eat from the bakery and tour historic buildings. ”

“Winston-Salem is the proud home of its own art house cinema. Films are quality and the theatres are small - a wonderful afternoon or rainy day activity. (Wine and beer available for purchase!)”

“Great family museum geared towards younger kids. Older kids (middle school & up) I would say would go through pretty quickly and want to leave.”

“Mary's is THE brunch institution in Winston-Salem. Mary herself is an institution :). She's semi-retired, but if you're lucky, you'll get to meet her during your visit (if so, tell her I sent you). Mary's has everything from standard eggs, bacon, grits, and toast to exotic specials, such as a vegan tamale in banana leaf topped with, black beans, scrambled eggs, Hatch chile sauce, pico de Gallo, queso fresco, and vegan cilantro lime hollandaise (a recent special). The service is friendly and fun. Tons of great art on the walls! ”
