Enjoy the beauty of the north woods in Upper Penninsula Michigan during the winter months: pine trees layered in glistening snow, lakes cloaked in shimmering ice, the quiet and stillness of places encased in the softness of snow. Head out for the day to snowmobile, downhill ski, ice fish, cross-country ski or snowshoe. And upon arriving back at the cottage, cozy up to the warmth of a fireplace.
The property is in a strategic location, just over the northern border of WI in the upper peninsula of MI. It offers the seclusion of being adjacent to the Ottawa National Forest , but has easy accessibility to snowmobile trails, the many inland lakes, state parks, as well as proximity to town. From this hub, there is something for everyone. Motorcycles can take scenic drives through the Porcupine Mountains or Black River Forest Scenic Byway. Snowmobiles and ATV's can wind through the trails and forestry roads. Lakes abound for boating and fishing. National and State forests offer great hiking, scenic views, hunting, and in winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Watersmeet is a great location to experience the activities you are looking forward to in the Northwoods!

  • The house is very roomy, and really cute! Lots of room for vehicles and anything extra you might be bringing. Lots of sleeping space. The kitchen is spacious with a lot of counter space to cook. A great value and a great place to stay!

    Jen2020-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, comfortable and convenient location to snowmobile trails! Fully stocked kitchen helped us save money on eating out.

    Reggie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location close to the trail for snowmobiling and excellent communication with the hosts!

    Mark2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very comfortable. Plenty of room to park. Just 2 miles from town where you can get just about anything at the gas station. About 1 mile to the snowmobile trail. Plenty of snow to ride the ditch powder to the trail. If you are used to staying in fancy hotels, this is probably not the place for you. If you want somewhere warm, comfortable, easy to get to but in a country setting, then Grandma Patty's place is it.

    Robert2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Was up doing some hiking in the Porcupine Mountains and had a nice stay. Place is in a good spot, quiet and fairly close to where I was hiking. Check in was a breeze and the place definitely has a Grandma's house feel to it.:)

    Michael2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Nice cozy place. Just right for the 3 of us for our quick one night stay on our way to Sault Ste Marie, MI. It was nice to not have to unrack the bicycles as it seemed like a very safe area. We would definitely stay here again!

    Julie2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • A nice comfy farmhouse in the Western part of the Upper Peninsula. It was very comfortable for four of us. Note that while it readily will sleep 6 people, there's not really place for that many to hang out together (table seats 4 - and there are stools in the kitchen, so 6 could eat at the same time, just not all around a table.) Living area has a sofa and one comfy chair. Perfect for 4 to watch TV together! And there's a selection of games, so I actually got to learn Euchre!

Location was perfect for our snowmobile rental place with trails right next to it. Cabin is located next to a lake and we are planning to be back with kids this summer for some ATV-ing. Definitely recommend it!!!

  • This place is beautiful. It's warm and cozy with a bright open setting filled with views of the lake. We were able to snow shoe out the back door and sled right out of the driveway to the trails. Steve was very accommodating, providing tons of wood for the fireplace and a "saint" who came to plow our driveway after almost a foot of snow. We can't wait to go back!

  • Mid September, my wife and 3 adult friends stayed for 4 fantastic nights at this beautiful spot on the planet. The stunning accommodations were as described. We were able to do a lot of exploring throughout the area. We were amazed at the extent of the fall colors. Two nights we prepared meals and it was like being at home, the kitchen was well equipped. We also we're able to use the fire pit and indoor fireplace. But, the piece de resistance was simply, the serenity. Had it not been for the occasional boat at the launch, we would have humanity had " left the building".

Definitely would recommend this place to others as we had a great experience during our stay

This is a remote location at the end of a dead end road. It is a place for quiet. It is near the snowmobile trail, but not right on. It is outside of Mass City and sit on 38 acres. It can be used for families, snowmobile and summer vacation. It is only an hour from MTU or Finlandia if all lodging is booked in Houghton.
What makes this special is there is solitude. The neighbors are not close.
  • Great place to stay for snowmobiling, quick access to trails and the heated garage was perfect for thawing the sleds off after riding all day. The pictures depict the place well, we will definitely be back in the future.

  • This is, by far, the best AirBnB I have seen! Incredibly clean, in a gorgeous spot, tons of room, amazing hosts! Don't hesitate for a second to stay here. Debbie and Alan were so generous to accommodate us on short notice and are so kind. I cannot recommend this listing enough! I hope we will be back some day!

    Jennifer2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had an altogether wonderful stay at Debbie and Alan's B&B. The house and grounds are a masterpiece of architecture, which are designed to fit in with the natural setting. The accommodations are thoughtful in every detail for the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. Debbie's delicious breakfast was over the top--all any breakfast lover could wish for. We also enjoyed a lively and interesting conversation with our hosts by the fireplace. Best of all, Debbie and Alan are extremely gracious, thoughtful and hospitable. We hope to stay with them again. Bob and Jan

  • Enough praise can’t be said about this lovely retreat and the hosts, Debbie and Alan. The grounds were jaw-dropping beautiful, the home itself and our room were artistically and tastefully designed to take advantage of the surroundings. Our hosts demonstrated thoughtfulness of our needs at every turn. And, the breakfast was amazing! Can’t wait to plan a return trip!

    Deborah2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The room and the setting were quite beautiful. The garden was magical, and we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast while watching the wood ducks in the lake and a hummingbird at the feeder. Debbie was a great host, and we were made to feel at home.

    Phil2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Alan and Debbie have perfected the art of welcoming travelers and helping them shake off their stressors! We arrived to warmth and sweet aromas from the kitchen and gentle music that immediately relaxed us! Lovely touches were everywhere. The flowers and butterflies and hummingbirds were a delight! They greeted us and gave us our space... which was clean and soothing ...in a short time we were comfortably chatting and sharing family stories! Debbie is an amazing cook and breakfast was sublime and delicious!! We will definitely return for more pampering and friendship!

    Kristin2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect getaway to relax and unwind.

  • This is so much more than your typical Airbnb - staying here was an escape into an architectural beauty and the most amazing hospitality! This far exceeded any other Airbnb we have ever stayed in - It is a very special place and worth every effort! Be prepared to feel truly welcomed and cared for by Debbie and Allen. A true retreat!

  • I don’t think 5 stars is enough to adequately rate our stay. We had the best time here. Debbie and Alan were such awesome hosts. The home was phenomenal! The breakfasts were to die for. They even treated us to cocktail hour. They had many suggestions on what to do in the area. We loved everything about our stay. If we are ever back in the area, this will be our only choice.

Everything needed was provided and when we mentioned that the microwave was not quite working, they replaced it immediately. The surroundings were beautiful but what truly set this place apart were the hosts!

    Kena2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem. At the end of a secluded road lies this wonderful little vacation home. The somewhat dated appearance of the exterior does not at all prepare you for all the cosmetic upgrades and homey touches inside the home. It was the perfect size for our family of 6 with room to spare. The kitchen is galley style and can be a tight space with more than one cook in the kitchen. But, it was well appointed with both cookware and pantry staples. We visited in the winter so weren't able to take advantage of the lake (ice fishing directly from the propertybut it has fantastic frontage and a large dock that is not possible due to an aerator that keep the water around the dock open year round). But, it looks to have fantastic frontage and many water toys (kayaks, etc) that have us planning a trip back this summer. Though there is not wifi we had great cell reception (Verizon and US Cellular).

Think 1905, when this home was built by the copper company as a superintendent's home. Totally restored, dining room, living room, and parlor are available to use, in addition to a second story deck off the Brady Suite overlooking the valley, and the deck off the dining room.
Reserve now for the fall color! Leaves change early in the UP. Plan your holiday to see Fall around the end of September. The Wi-Fi service has been updated, and enjoy the breakfast that is fast becoming THE best. The home originally was for the superintendent of the Michigan copper mine in the area, built about in 1905. It has been completely restored, featuring original wood floors, door brass hardware and period lighting.
Rockland is a tiny town...a general store and a bar & grill. But, the forest wraps its arms around the town, while Lake Superior is only 15 miles away. Or, enjoy the largest state park in Michigan just 20 miles away. Victoria dam reservoir is only 4 miles away, on the road to old Victoria cabin site. Boating and fishing on the Ontonagon river, Victoria reservoir and Lake Superior as well as other water areas.
  • We enjoyed staying in this small town near to visit Porcupine State Park, which was on our destinations list. In Nancy's home you can expect hospitality served up in a home loaded with history and stories, and authenticity. Sitting on the front porch swing with a nice glass of red wine reminded me of my youth, minus the wine ;-). Our room was spacious and comfortable, especially the king bed. The matress suited both my wife and I, which is pretty unusual.

  • Beautiful home! Very comfortable bed, pillows, great shower! Love the house, and both the owner, Nancy, and the caretakers, Roger & Charlotte, were fabulous! • If you are deciding between Angel's place and another, pick hers. I never got stay with her due to COVID-19 and government shut downs. This had me cancelling extremely last minute. On top of my short notice cancellation, Angel had just made the 10hr drive to her home to had off keys and turn on the heat for me to make sure it was toasty upon arrival. All this to say, she still provided me with a full refund. I can't speak to the home, but the character of Angel is unmeasured. Book your stay here.

  • WOW, WOW, WOW... stop reading and book this place right now! Don’t think the Upper Peninsula is too far ... it was worth every minute of the drive from MKE. Mere words fall short to describe the exceptional craftsmanship of this home. The paths, trails and gardens rival any conservatory. This is BY FAR the best place we have stayed at...EVER! Alan & Debbie are truly extraordinary hosts! Even our 14 year old daughter commented the breakfast was better than any meal we had in Paris. You will not be disappointed with the private suite accommodations! We may never vacation anywhere else again - b/ c we found a slice of heaven in the Upper Peninsula!

  • Really a very, very good place! Bebbie and Allen are super nice and very enthusiastic! Allen sent us an oversized map and introduced the nearby attractions in great detail. In the morning, the hostess Debbie will prepare a hearty breakfast for the guests. She will also kindly ask you to wake up in the morning and make sure you can have a hot breakfast. For them, there is a super cute dog. Wow, you must not miss the pet. In addition to the design of these homestays, the design of the pure wooden house, the first floor is a private area specially prepared for guests, fireplace, pool table, TV and other facilities, outside is a private garden, private lake, starry at night Think about it and be happy! It’s a quiet wonderland. Don’t miss it when you stay here!

  • Jacqueline's place is super clean. Everything is perfect, especially the warm fan in the bathroom. I traveled with my 1.5 year old little one. It felt really warm when he took the shower there. The location is very convenient. During the stay, we visited the lake of the clouds on the Porcupine Mt, Houghton and Copper Harbor to check the foliage color change. My family had a very pleasant time and liked the pizza downstairs.

  • This place is absolutely phenomenal. She has everything you can think of, and even some of the stuff you didn’t think you needed. I stayed here for 5 weeks for work, and it couldn’t have been any better. It didn’t feel like i was out of town for work, it felt like i was coming home. The store directly down stairs is great and convenient too. (Be sure to try the pizza and wings). Jacqueline was the perfect host. I wanted to extend my stay, but it had already been booked. It was sparkling clean, the bed was comfortable, and it’s quiet. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. Save yourself some time from looking around on this site, and just go ahead and book this place. It’s worth it.

Our house is located on the North shore of lake Lac Vieux Desert with 200' of level frontage with sand bottom great for swimming. Lac Vieux Desert is a class A muskie lake and also has Walleye, Bass, Perch, Pike, Crappie, and pan fish. There is a boat launch near by. Parking for trailers and plenty of pier to dock your boat. The house has real Northwoods charm with tongue and groove walls and rustic wood floors. There is a deck lakes with charcoal bbq.
Our place is very relaxed with lots of level ground to sit and watch the water or relax in a hammock. We enjoy a bond fire at the shore sitting on Adirondack chairs watchingthe sun set.
  • Very nice size house in great area for a lot of outdoor activity! We were there for snowmobiling! The house is a bit far from track across the lake but we found it! The bed situation is perfect for multiple families and parking was perfect for two trucks and trailers and one more suv! Bit pricey but worth it to us

  • The Enchanted Loon Lodge was the perfect home base for a wedding weekend in the area. If you need a place for a large group in Land O'Lakes- this is it. Jill and Steve are amazing hosts and made us feel so welcome, providing us with breakfast, campfires, kayaks, and great stories. The rooms were just enough space needed for a weekend, everything was clean. We would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again should we find ourselves in Land O'Lakes.

    Taylor2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot for a true northwoods experience! Jill and Steve were both awesome hosts and really friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom was also very clean and comfortable, and the lake was incredible! The deck and dock have perfect views of the lake and there’s plenty of room for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. Kayaks are provided at no cost which made for a great weekend activity! We loved our stay and would definitely come back.

    Brittni2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing lakefront lodge with a lot of history, it’s the perfect Northwoods retreat. It feels like you could be living in any time period 1950 on which is super cool. We loved Steve and Jill and are already planning our next trip to the Enchanted Loon!

    Allison2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Really accommodating hosts that are very quick to respond. It is a beautiful place for the perfect North Woods experience.

    Chris2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view and lake access in a Northern woods lodge. Plenty of privacy and independence to explore the lake and take long walks. Very serene and quiet but also enjoy a beverage on the pier! Jill was able to give us hints on where to eat or what to explore as well as fellow travelers we met there. We rented the suite room, which was spacious and comfortable. We are planing on returning next year.

    Mary2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This lodge is an absolute gem. Placed on a beautiful private lake, this historic retreat exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed using the house kayaks to paddle, lounging on the deck and we had a blast saddling up at their quintessential Northwoods bar which overlooked the lake. Jill was more than welcoming and was a great host while sharing the history of the lodge and great knowledge on things to do around the surrounding area. We'll be back.

    Jeremy2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have had a more peaceful and pleasant stay at the Lodge. The lake is private and quiet and we had full use of several great kayaks and boats. Jill and her daughter were so welcoming and the whole place was clean, pleasant, and authentically north woods! We can't wait to come back next year. What a gem!

    Lauren2018-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and Steve were wonderful hosts and the lodge is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a quiet lake and beautiful sunset. Have dinner down the way or grill out on the huge stone patio that overlooks the lake. Friendly and fun!

  • Jill and Steve are the best hosts anyone could ask for! These two wonderful souls are so caring and kind, and they went above and beyond making us feel welcome and comfortable. Their lodge is also one of the coolest places I have ever stayed, as everything in the house has a story behind it. This place and the people who run it are unforgettable in all the best ways, and my friends and I who stayed there cannot stop talking about how amazing our time was there. We will definitely be back there again one day, and cannot recommend staying at the lodge enough!

  • The Lockesair Lodge exceeded our expectations in many ways. The pictures do not do it justice, as the lodge is so full of personality, history and charm. It is clean, warm, and welcoming, and immediately the hosts made us feel at home. There are 6 rooms and a cabin so lots of options for different sized groups. Plenty of options to sit and look at the lake, read, take a kayak ride, walk, fish, or bike. The lodge is full of beautiful touches and charming areas. Close to good places to eat and the hosts will help you find whatever you need. The lake is one of the most peaceful in the north with limited power boats so especially beautiful. We can’t wait to go back.

  • My son was on leave from the Air Force and we decided to visit the Keweenaw Peninsula and the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park for fishing and hiking. Both are in reasonable driving range from Old Orchard Hill house and are fun places. A pleasant surprise was how much we felt at home at the house. It is a beautiful and spacious home - and Nancy made us feel like family. You will marvel at the home's history. We did not have time for nearby museum, but plan to see that on the next this way. We will treasure always treasure this trip!
