Your guide to Timboon

All About Timboon

Timboon is a small township in the Western District of Victoria that’s well-known as the home of many Victorian dairy farms. The area is a major producer of Australian milk, cheese, and ice cream so while you are here, you can try some of the best dairy products in the state. These farms are surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills and pristine bushland, providing the perfect spot for bushwalking, cycling, or horse riding. One of the area's most popular trails is the Rail Trail, a 40-kilometre trail along an old railroad line.

Nearby, you can also find the beautiful Fort Campbell National Park, home of some of Australia's most stunning coastal rock formations including the Twelve Apostles and London Bridge. In the evening, you can see little penguins, short-tailed shearwaters, and whales at the park. You can easily view the rock formations from the world-famous Great Ocean Road, which stretches for 664 kilometres along the Southern Ocean.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Timboon

The weather can change significantly throughout the year so the best time to book your Timboon accommodation largely depends on what you want to do during your stay.

The summer months are warm and sunny, ideal for outdoor activities such as kayaking and bushwalking. Although this is the busiest time of the year, it is also one of the best times to see the short-tailed shearwaters arriving at the nearby Mutton Island to roost. The spring and the fall are also enjoyable times to visit as the area is a little quieter. The winter can get a bit chilly and windy but this is a good time to catch the Southern Ocean at one of its most dramatic times. The weather can vary greatly based on what part of the shoreline you are on.
