Places to stay in The Key

Places to stay in The Key
Our home is situated close to 'The Key', named such as it is the only road leading to Milford Sound, Fiordland - through the town of Te Anau.... therefore, The Key to Fiordland. A vehicle is required to drive here as it's a farming area. Quiet, private, with gardens to enjoy.
A Queen bed with electric blankets, sitting area, tv and private bathroom. We have a limited kitchen containing a fridge, microwave, single stovetop and utensils along with a kettle, toaster, tea and coffee. Fresh eggs from our own chickens are provided. There is an outdoor breakfast area available if the weather is warm as well as further areas to just sit and read. Take a night or two to plan your forward journey in this amazing part of Southland.
We live in a rural area on an escarpment overlooking Fiordland to the west. It's a unique country environment. The last 3km of access is on a dirt road which is also a No Exit road, providing further privacy and quiet. This area is like a Retreat.

  • It is an amazing and quite little place in paradise. Lynne and Jim are so lovely hosts and have a real good sense if humor :-) I got fresh eggs to cook which were delicious! Lynne gave me a lot of good advices and helped me planning the following days. Thank you two!

    Nicole2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lynne's place is beautiful! I wish we could have stayed longer! Unfortunately due to our schedule we arrived after dark and had to leave right at sunrise, but it's a beautiful farm in such a remote area. You have a private area all to yourself, and it would be a wonderful place to relax for a weekend. The bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, and the breakfast (some eggs, toast, butter and yogurt) was lovely. Highly recommend!

    Sabrina2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It is hard to describe the spectacular beauty you will experience when you look out from the sliding glass doors and behold the mountains! It was truly an aha moment for us and I am sure it will be for you as well. There are many sitting areas outside to enjoy but our favourite involved gnomes! You will understand what I mean when you arrive. Your hosts are very warm and friendly and easy to get to know. Take the time to talk to them and you will discover what amazing people they are. The best Air BNB we have experienced in New Zealand so far and I know it will end up being our best stay.

    Spencer2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A slice of paradise. View is outstanding. The peacefulness is deafening. You can't help but relax and to top it off a great host.

    David2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Stumbled upon this BNB what a great find peaceful and serene, couldn’t fault it would definitely stay again.

  • This place was absolute perfection. From the views of the mountains to the hospitality and the cottage cosiness of the apartment, there is nothing that could be improved - we felt immediately relaxed and at home and wanted to stay longer. Without hesitation, stay here!

The Key Berry Farm is in a great location to discover Fiordland. We are located one and a half hours from Queenstown and Invercargill airport and 20 minutes from Te Anau and Manapouri and 2 hours to Milford Sound. You’ll love the relaxed and picturesque surroundings. The guesthouse is located on our property we we live, where we grow raspberries and keep a few fat sheep. We are easy to find and are very welcoming hosts. My place is good for couples, or 2 adults and up to 2 children, or any adventurers. We look forward to meeting you.
The Key Berry Guest house is a relaxing and affordable place to choose to stay. We offer a unique and friendly experience and really I just want to offer you a great place to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of NZ, without charging the earth. The guesthouse is very clean, warm and welcoming. Guests comment on the great shower, and kitchen with everything you need. Oh, and the yummy fresh raspberry jam!
  • An excellent place to stay only 15 mins from Te Anau with lots of space, all the cooking facilities you need and access to the washing machine if needed. The room is decorated with things of interest in NZ, flowers on the dresser and is very cosy. A heater, 2 Doonas and an electric blanket to keep you cosy if needed. Would stay again.

  • Sue and Mac ( as well as dog , Flash ) are great hosts , they made us very welcome and we spent 4 very comfortable days at The Key Berry Farm . Sadly , the raspberries were out of season , but Sue’s homemade raspberry jam was delicious . Highly recommended to other travellers .

  • Susan and her family are very welcoming and nice people! The drive to the town (The Key) is about 10-15mins drive but the road were pretty ok. We were so excited and happy about the amazing view that the apartment offers. It was a quiet and beautiful place to relax! Will definitely come visit again!

    Jeralyn2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Susan’s place is a relaxing spot to stay between Te Anau/Manapouri and Dunedin. The cottage is a very spacious and attractive bed-sitter with a kitchen and good sized bathroom. We were very comfortable there for one night but it would have been nice to stay longer. Susan and her family live right next door and are available to help if required.

    Trevor2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Susan's cottage. Surrounded by wonderful views, as well as many animals. Flash the dog greeted us on arrival, and each time we returned. Susan had added wonderful little touches for us, our favorite being her jam. We were very comfortable for our stay, having everything we needed. We were also only a short drive away from Te Anue and hikes, but in the Country, so able to experience farm life. We will definitely return here again, and highly recommend Susan's Place. Tom & Bernadette Koger USA.

    Bernadette2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lots of thoughtful extras. Spacious, clean & well equipped. A handy location for Te Anau. Sue & Mac were friendly helpful hosts & a nice greeting from Flash was a bonus

    Ian2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This Berry Farm is a lovely space close (20 min) to Te Anau. Despite its closeness to the road, it's very quiet and definitely peaceful. The place has everything you'll need. I recommend it.

Clean, comfortable, cozy cottage with two large bedrooms, living and dining area, kitchen, separate toilet and shower and laundry area with washing machine. Basic ammenities ideal for walkers walking Te Araroa Trail, fishing groups or tourists visiting the many attractions Fiordland has to offer. Fire and wood provided.
All beds are made up with clean linen, duvets, pillows. We provide towels, face cloths, bath mats, hand towels and tea towels. There is a washing machine and powder provided and clothes rack for drying clothes.
The cottage is located on Princhester Road, beside the State Highway, directly on the Te Araroa Trail. Our farm is a busy sheep and cattle station. The cottage is close to our woolshed and yards. There is periodically numerous sheep activities around the cottage with drafting and shearing sheep, therefore there will be stock noise.
  • We had a great stay at the cottage. The beds were comfortable, sheets crisp, and the kitchen was well-equipped. Lovely views in every direction, and lots of sheep!

    Adela2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very Nice and cozy house! By the farm, the kitchen is large and well-equipped. I really like it. Fang Yuan has no neighbors. On the first night, I was a little accustomed and a little scared. But it should still be safe. Very good experience and service!

    Mia酱2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona is a great host. Upon arrival she asked if we’d like to see them shearing the sheep. What an experience! She was so helpful giving us ideas for things to do. And the cabin is spacious and clean. One of our best stays yet!

    Jerry2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Princhester Cottage is truly a dream! As a restored shearers cottage, it offers history and a unique experience. The cottage is beautifully updated and very cozy. The hostess and her family are absolutely the kindest and most gracious hosts! It is located about 20 minutes from Te Anau and was the perfect peaceful retreat for our adventure to the caves and Doubtful Sound. We are grateful for our family’s experience at the cottage and will remember it always!

    Amy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very nice and comfy. Located in quiet place, with everything you can need. Fiona was nice and easy to communicate with.

    Marc & Camille2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a perfect spot. We missed being able to get to Milford Sound because of flooding and road damage, but the cottage provided such a comfortable and well set-up place to spend time during the rainy weather. The kitchen is large and well equipped, and the whole place just feels warm, light, and relaxing. The views of the mountains and sheep (when the weather cooperates) are lovely. Very highly recommend and would love to return.

    Rebecca2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Princhester cottage feels more like a home than a holiday let. It is spacious. There is plenty of work top space in the kitchen, which has every utensil you're likely to need The wood burner made the cottage very cosy in the evening. We'd like to return if we ever come back to this part of NZ

    Pauline2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's cottage is really perfect! We stayed here in two nights, it made us like "home" then a holiday accommodation. Highly recommend and hope we can visit again.

  • This place was spotless and well thought out! No complaints whatsoever. Even pots and pans were in good conditions and knives sharp. A welcome sight after cooking in hostels! Fantastic home in a fantastic town, and the host provided a guide booklet with tips on things to do in Te Anau and for how to use the items in the house. We had everything we needed for our stay in Te Anau!

    Trevor2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night as a half way point between Queenstown and Milford sound. Check in was very easy communication was fantastic. Great location close by the river. We went for a afternoon stroll which was great to stretch the legs after our flight. Next time we will stay longer so we can explore the local area. Definitely recommend staying here! Thank U Andrew for Ur hospitality!

  • This apartment is the perfect spot for couples looking for a home base in Te Anau. It has tons of amenities and nice touches, and is very clean and open. Lots of room to spread out, do a load of laundry, and have some food. Highly recommend.

    Kristen2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a must stay if you are in Te Anau. Super cozy and super clean, just brilliant. Lived it to bits.

    Tony2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was great. Clean, modern, comfortable, lots of thoughtful touches, plus plenty of hot water. The only complaint is that the bathroom is very small, but it's still usable.

    Joel2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay - very well equipped and beautifully presented. Highly recommended and is one if the nicest air b&b’s we’ve stayed in.

    Susan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay at Frank and Chrys's house would highly recommend this air bnb, have everything you need and more very comfy bed :)

    Laura2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, new, well equipped cottage was more like a small house because it was so well appointed and comfortable. Only 3 minutes from town on a quiet, safe street, completely surrounded by its own private yard and driveway. Environmentally conscious and high quality soaps, shampoos, body wash were a luxurious touch. Other wonderful thoughtfulness included cooking oil, teas, coffee, milk, cereals, jams, peanut butter, marmite and even chocolate on your night stand! Bathroom is small but cleverly designed as is the kitchen with quality appliances and stove/oven with plenty of pots, pans, dishes. It was so nice to be able to do a load of laundry. Highly recommended, especially for less than the price of a hotel room in Te Anau, you can have your own entire very place.

    Vicki2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little cottage, very modern, clean, warm and cosy. Check in was so easy and the communication was great. So quiet out at the edge of town, just felt like home. We would highly recommend staying here.

Just a warm and wonderful three days with incredible people.

  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Hillside Haven! It was such a unique spot, close drive to the cruise port for Doubtful Sound. Enjoyed our visits to Te Anau as it was also just a short drive to town. Cute little spot, with 2 adorable sheep and a pup too! Cheers!

  • We had a wonderful time at Courtney place! It was peaceful and quite! The two sheep in the paddock were so cute!

    Philippe2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little honestay on a wholesome farm close to both Te Anau and Manapouri. So great access to Milford/Doubtful and Dusky sounds, while also being far enough away to enjoy some incredible night skies (possible aurora Australia even). Place is well equipped to be self sufficient on your trip if you like to cook. Perfect for a couple/solo travellers or for a small family, with great mountain views and plenty of farm animals for the kids. Would definitely recommend, or even return one day. Hillside Haven is a great place to call home for a short while.

Set on 10 acres of tree studded hillside sits your very own cosy, home built timber cabin with kitchen, gas cook-top, log burner and solar light (please note the are NO POWER POINTS, WIFI or BATHROOM in the cabin) This is one of 5 cabins on the property. Queen bed, fold out couch plus we can put a floor mattress down for a 4th guest (only really suitable for kiddies or the more hardy traveler!). Price is for 2 guests. Sunny private front deck to enjoy the tranquility and views.
Get back to basics without sacrificing comfort. The cabins give you a true rural country, pioneering experience to sit back and enjoy the peace on the doorstep of Fiordland. In the kitchen you’ll find a gas burner, solar lighting and fresh cold running water. Plates, cooking pots etc. There is NO POWER other than solar lighting so no fridge, but there is one in the communal laundry area at the bottom of the hill ( 30 second walk) This is where you will also find the showers and toilets plus where you can pick up Wifi. NO TOILET IN THE CABIN. Wi-Fi is available but being a rural property, is not always overly reliable. Make time to relax in our outdoor baths. $20 per bath. 2 people can easily fit into one
Manapouri is a quiet small village at the entrance to the Fiordland National Park. It is located on the eastern shore of New Zealand’s most beautiful lake: Lake Manapouri. With its laid back character and population of around 400, it’s a great alternative to the busy tourist spots in the surrounding areas, like Te Anau, which is only 15 minutes drive north. Pearl harbour in Manapouri is the departure point for all Doubtful Sound trips and several of the Great Walks in Fiordland. The local town has a couple of pubs and cafes. A general store and a petrol station. The closest supermarket, chemist and medical centre is 15 minutes drive away in Te Anau
  • Wonderful place to stay. Chilled self contained accommodation, perfect for our stay. Lovely touches like pot belly stoves and guides in the cabin with local walks and attractions. Would definitely reccomend.

    Eppie2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place right in the nature. It was a perfect time to unplug from our busy life and relax. Our favorite: the hot tubs, the bed and the animals around 😊 It's 3' drive from lake Manapouri and 18' from Te Anau lake where the cruises departs.

    Audrey2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin experience was just what I needed. A GREAT place to unwind and soak in the gorgeous views! Sue was so prompt in responding to my many questions and she and Heath gave great suggestions for activities to do in the area. I enjoyed having the chickens wander by as I was sitting on the porch too. I would love to come back here!

    Stephanie2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very rustic, unique spot. Close to town, but perfectly off the beaten path. Heath is incredibly friendly and helpful.

    Erin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved this place. I drove in and was greeted by Sue who showed me up to my cabin and when I got there I was amazed by the views. It's so beautiful and the cabin has great character. The bed is warm and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Sue has a couple of chickens and one made sure I was not lonely, hanging out on the deck with me. Sue ran me a lovely hot bath outside to which I could watch the stars appear as I sipped on my cider. If you want to stay somewhere with character and amazing views then you have to stay here.

    Eithne2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great base for tramping in Fiordland! So quiet, great views of the stars, and as close as you can get to early morning doubtful sound departures! All the amenities you could need, and in some of the most affordable private housing we saw in all of NZ.

    Matt2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Sue and Heath are wonderful hosts! The property is incredible—definitely arrive as close to check in as possible to enjoy the view and some games from the front porch. The bath was incredible, too:) We wish we could have stayed in Manapouri longer than our trip allowed to get to know Sue and Heath and their area better!

Tiny cabin in a peaceful setting with panoramic views, overlooking an organic blueberry plantation. 7 mins out of Te Anau. Just opposite the Te Anau Observation Point, which looks across Lake Te Anau and surrounding mountains.
The cabin is a cozy little space (3m x 3m) with a sofa bed that folds out easily. This firm bed sleeps two adults and there is no room for any additional beds. There is also a picnic table behind the cabin, with mountain views.
The cabin is on a quiet gravel road, shared with only one other neighbour. A car is recommended, as you will be around 7min drive from Te Anau township.
  • I have never seen a place of this size that would be so functional. Every tiny nook and cranny of this cabin is used to its fullest potential and the kitchen, although small at first sight, comes with everything you’ll need. And then the views ... priceless!

  • This place is great if you want to get away from commercialised Te Anau. Simple but very clean! Blueberries were in season too so we got to enjoy a plethora of them for a very modest price!

    Damon2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little house with awesome views

    Katharina2020-03-04T00:00:00Z

  • We had a lovely stay here. A great location just outside of town. Quick walk to a beautiful view point.

    Emma2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you can handle the simple but complete facilities you will enjoy the great silence and the fantastic view.

    Hanneke2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little place just outside Te Anau! Quiet and off the beaten track! Cute to get out in nature but the cabin has everything you need! We cooked tea each night, made easy with the array of kitchen utensils! Some lovely touches too with breakfast provided! Thanks Alina, we loved it!

    Magi2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • A truly idyllic place, silent with stunning views and spectacular night skies. The cabin is small but well equipped and Alina is an attentive and very approachable host. We would definitely recommend this secluded cabin for its privacy and quietude.

Here is what a recent guest says "What and incredible experience. The house is modern, well equipped , warm and has beautiful mountain views...sitting in the spa under the night sky was just MAGIC". Relax in this elevated, light bright contemporary space. From here you will be able to unwind while planning your next adventure. Fully self contained with a great kitchen, powerful shower, unlimited wifi and powerful heat pump or air conditioning. The outdoor private spas is the cherry on top!
This is a brand new space, built specifically with airbnb guests in mind. High speed internet, New Zealand artwork, top of the line kitchen, comfy bed....and then there is the setting, private off street parking, elevated deck surrounded by native trees and shrubs to attract birds. I am really proud of what we offer our guests and have no doubt you will enjoy your stay.
Our neighborhood is in a new subdivision which sits elevated with views to town and mountains and lake beyond We have heavily planted with native trees also a small orchid of fruit trees and berry shrubs. We have a really pleasant walk into town which take 10-15 mins or the main street is a 2min drive. Te Anau is a very safe and nice town where it is safe to walk at night and you will find lots of friendly people.

Escape the hustle and bustle of modern day life and relax in our tranquil rural setting, nestled under the Takitimu Mountains just 20 minutes from Te Anau at The Key. Sheep and cattle are farmed on our 990 hectare farm.
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    John2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay. My children were thrilled to be able to pat the horse over the gate in the backyard. The garden is beautiful. A great place to stay with children!

    Marianne2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sun-filled, quiet, and full of character. We stayed here in the middle of a family vacation (featuring three children: one teenager + toddler + baby), and it was exactly the breath of fresh air we all needed. Lots of space, everything was clean and the bedrooms were spacious, warm and welcoming. Not to mention the night times were absolutely silent and pleasantly dark - well away from all the hustle and bustle of standard travelling locations, but still with easy access to Milford Sound, if that’s why you’re in the area. The bathrooms have been updated with modern showers, toilets and vanities. The kitchen/dining room has a lovely sunny open outlook, it feels really homely and relaxing. We loved it.

    Rachel2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was very peaceful and quiet. We loved seeing the horses grazing in the pasture right next to us and enjoyed walking down the road to see the sheep. It got cold at night, but there were space heaters and plenty of blankets to help us stay warm.

    Danielle2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon's place was very spacious and we found it the way we imagined. She provided some very important local tips. We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights stay.

    Deep2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Heritage house full of stories located in a live farm, spacious, clean, natural, cute animals and strategically positioned in-between Queenstown and Milford Sound. We had a really great time. Thanks Sharon and your family for the hospitality.

    Leo2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful scenery, lovely old farm house. Thank you, Sharon, we enjoyed our stay!

    Katharina2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • The working farm and animals were a great respite from busy days in Te Anau. This stay offered rustic charm with modern day amenities. Great for anyone wanting a closer look at a working farm or just a relaxing, rural retreat.

Tussock Hut.....This is a brand new purpose built cottage with all the facilities that one would want to relax and unwind at the end of a long day travelling around our beautiful countryside. An idyllic setting looking out over Te Anau township to Mount Luxmore, Fiordland National Parkand beyond with peeps of Lake Te Anau.
Tussock Hut is fully self-contained - it has a fully equipped kitchen as well as gas hob, oven fridge/freezer and washing machine, as well as own modern bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity with large mirror. The decor is soft and inviting. Views of Mount Luxmore, Fiordland National Park and beyond can be seen while sitting on the deck, or the sofa in the lounge and also from the bed. We have taken great care to ensure that our guest's stay here is relaxing and enjoyable. We do hope you you enjoy your stay here at Tussock Hut.
Our favourite cafe is approximately 150m along the road, at Alpine Cafe, they serve hot flat whites, Latte's or what ever your choice may be. They also make the most delicioius muffins. Town is a 10 minute walk away as well as the lake - 2 minutes in the car. Our town may be little but it packs in alot of things to do
  • Tussock Hut was very comfortable, in a quiet spot on the edge of town. Very well thought out, plenty of space for two and good amenities. We loved the verandah and grass around which gave us a space to relax and read. Evan was very welcoming and communication was easy. Te Anau is a very special place.

  • Really lovely little place. The guys were very welcoming. Had some issues getting in at first because the other tenants had locked up and gone out for dinner, but we went down to the Redcliff Bar and were welcomed with open arms. We're on a bit of a tourist track, and things can feel a bit artificial. Here, we felt like we were staying with friends.

  • A beautiful cottage, exceptionally clean and homely, with views of the lake. Lots of additional little extras in the kitchen. Fabulous location to take the tour to Doubtful Sound. Really enjoyed our 3 nights and enjoyed this beautiful location in preference to the more touristy Te Anau. Wished we could have stayed longer.

  • This place is in such an amazing location, right on the edge of the lake but tucked into its own little forest. Simple accom..we had a cabin but spotlessly clean and well appointed amenities. Communal kitchen was great and spotless and we appreciated finding board games and books. Also, perfect location to wander down onto the doubtful sound tour..also recommend. Thank you

    Esteban2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay at Possum Lodge and was pleasantly surprised by how really wonderful this facility is. Whether you are in a cabin as we were, or tent camping, or in an RV, this is where you want to be. The showers were hot and clean and the restroom facilities are modern and clean and the kitchen had all of the amenities. The water is potable, unlike the DOC sites. There was recycling and a rubbish, too. There is a lounge and picnic tables and even a barbecue grill. The landscaping had lots of flowers and it is just a lovely space. And I’m not really sure why but we did not have issues with sand flies there...it could have been the 25 knot winds, but the vegetation and structures provided a great wind block so happy that we were not bothered either way.

Queen bedroom in new home in Te Anau. A quiet & peaceful place to rest at the end of a busy day with a hot tub to soak away the aches & pains. Only a 2 minute walk to the lake & walking track. We look forward to meeting you.
We want our home to be your home away from home. Your room is a warm & comfortable refuge at the end of a busy day exploring Fiordland and all of its natural beauty. Your room has one queen bed & is suitable for a single or couple. Possibly the best shower & water pressure you could hope for... you do share the bathroom with our other guest room, so if that room is empty you will have the bathroom all to your self.
Our home is a 2 minute walk to the lake & a great walking track... turn left & you will end up in town... we recommend the Sandfly Cafe for breakfast & great coffee or La Toscana for the yummiest Italian in town. Turn right and end up at the river... maybe jump in the lake if its a hot day!!
  • Thank you so much for your hospitality, generosity and kindness to us in difficult circumstances. Charming hosts with lots of local knowledge.

  • We had a very short stay, but it was perfect. Loved meeting all the animals. Was able to do some much needed laundry. Bedroom and bathroom were spacious and had everything we needed. Unfortunately, didn’t get to use the hot tub, but there were robes provided for that if we had gotten a chance. Lots of local tips. Would definitely stay here again!

    Zoe2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm and Sheena’s place is one of the most outstanding accomodation experiences I have had to date. It was beautifully appointed, spotlessly cleaned and had everything you need! Communication with Malcolm prior to my trip was effortless and he went as far as organising two tours for me, which was above and beyond! I couldn’t recommend this stay anymore, and if you’re a dog lover, the dogs will be the cherry on the pie, making sure you feel at home.

    Rob2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect for our stay at Shrek's. The dogs and cats were friendly, the house is big, clean and modern. Shrek was friendly, relaxed, welcoming. The room is cozy and has everything you need, same thing for the bathroom. You can walk to the lake in 5 minutes. The hot tub is clean and nice. If you want to relax on your vacation to Te Anau, this is certainly a good place!

Meals at home are also recommended, as the stars can be seen quite clearly from the garden. A really cute and friendly cat will welcome you.

  • The house was convenient, on a quiet street, and the service was warm and professional. Pamela's mother hosted us this time, but she was great. We felt welcome and secure the entire stay. The house was kept in immaculate condition--we could tell that much effort was put into keeping everything clean and tidy. We would recommend to responsible guests in the future.

"47 Dusky" is a new, 40m square tiny house situated on a large section with a newly planted native garden. It is only an 8 min walk from Lake Te Anau and an 11 min walk to the main supermarket. With a new queen sized bed, laundry, as well as new furniture and appliances, this comfortable cottage is the perfect base from which you can explore amazing Fiordland. Not suitable for infants and children.
This compact cottage has all the facilities of a modern motel unit but is set by itself on a spacious, landscaped section. This is an ideal spot for a single traveller or couple to enjoy a relaxing holiday.
We love living in Te Anau, a small friendly town on the edge of Fiordland National Park. The town is on the shore of Lake Te Anau which is the largest lake in the South Island and is the closest town to Milford Sound.
  • Nice little cottage, neat and tidy and exactly as advertised. Happy to recommend.

  • We had three nights with Joy and Dave ... we definitely didn't regret our decision to stay there ... the accommodation has everything you need for cooking etc ... the bed was very comfortable and the house was very spacious for two people ... the paths to the water and the town were short ... the garden is great !!! this is geared towards the midday sun ... after our arrival we relaxed there and enjoyed the sun ... our stay here we will have fond memories for a long time ... highly recommended !!!

    Alexander2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay in Te Anau. We felt like part of the community in our little house and it had everything we could need. The best part was the communication wit Dave and Joy-as though we were their only guests. We enjoyed cooking there and going out too. Try Fat Duck for dinner (get reservations) and be sure to go to the Glow worm caves. But most of all...stay at 47 Dusky!

    Leigh2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were totally satisfied with the accommodation. The location is quiet, yet very central - restaurants and the supermarket are within walking distance. The little cottage was super clean and comfortably furnished. Tea, coffee and ginger biscuits were in the kitchen. In addition, everything was there for kitchen utensils to cater for yourself. Joy gave us valuable tips a few days beforehand so that we could book a tour to Milford Sound in good time, as it is currently closed to private vehicles. Thanks a lot for this. We would stay here again anytime :).

    Anne-Kathrin2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend a stay here. The cottage is a small home away from home, beautifully decorated and equipped with every necessity. The location is perfect, so close to town yet quiet, and with wonderful views of the mountains.

    Shelley2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is extremely clean and well located. We were met by Joy who was very helpful with local information. There were also lovely touches, especially the ginger biscuits.

  • Cosy space with a great view of the mountains. It was very comfortable and we had everything we needed to make meals in and do laundry. Walking distance to the supermarket, the lake and the rest of town. We didn’t need our car to do anything locally. The bathroom sink is too small but everything else was great. Would highly recommend.

  • Heathers place was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. Heather was more than happy to offer local tips and to help by supplying her clothes airer to dry our washing and lend us a knife to cut our tomatoes for lunch, Great value for money. Thanks Heather

  • Great host, cozy room, good located, everything perfect!

    Sventja2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Heather was a great host! She warned us about the closure of the Milford road to individual travellers and suggested we took a coach & cruise, which was a life-saver!

    Ricardo2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Heather’s place was like a home away from home. After a long and tiring journey from the Uk, Heather made me instantly feel relaxed and comfortable, ensuring I had everything I needed. Heather sent me some thoughtful messages in advance of my arrival, such as information about buses and road closures, and provided me with some excellent recommendations for places to eat. She also gave me directions for places in town and advice for my onward journey, which I really appreciated. The room itself had everything I needed with a comfortable bed and there was a beautiful garden for relaxing in. Overall, I had a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend Heather’s place, especially to solo female travellers.

  • Great stay in a kiwi home! Very cozy place - eventhough the room isnot large but enough for a short stay! You feel comfortable and can enjoy the nice breakfast prepares by Heather!

    Alain2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Heather was absolutely wonderful. We came into Te Anau the night before our tour to the Milford Sound and Heather told us about all the best places to go in town. She was lovely to talk to and even set out breakfast for us both mornings! We highly recommend this spot and would feel lucky to get the chance to stay with Heather again!

  • Donna’s farm cabin is a true gem hidden in Te Anau. The bed is a very comfortable Queen-size bed. There is a floor to ceiling window next to the bed where you can stargaze easily through. The shower is superb!! Donna is a wonderful and thoughtful host who prepared us breakfast with juices, bread and yogurt. Will recommend her place to everyone

    Sophie2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very unexpected surprise! The house was transformed by a warehouse, but the facilities are very comfortable. The most important thing is that it is on the hillside and it is an invincible rural mountain view room!

This newly renovated, large room is light and airy with Scandi inspired decor. It has a super comfy queen sleigh bed with a pull out sofa bed as well. With a private locked entry and kitchenette and also a private toilet and basin (shower is in a shared bathroom in the main house) you can feel relaxed in your own space. Our home is located about 300m from the town centre in a quiet cul-de-sac. We are a family of 5 with 3 busy young kids and work full time so check in time will be from 3.30pm.
FYI all you tall folks looking at booking our room the ceiling height is low at 192cm so if this would be an issue for you please choose to stay at another bnb :)
  • Nice place to stay while you are in theTe Anau area. Walking distance to town center and pick up places to bus toured Milford Sound.

  • Very friendly family. Ideal location for walking to-restaurants. Clean and comfortable. Great to get some washing done too. Thank you Renee

    Bev2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to explore Te Anau from. Just a 15 min walk to where most excursions go from. The room was comfy and clean.

    Jon2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great room!! Spacious and the bed was super comfortable! The hosts were really nice and friendly!! Would stay again

    Amanda2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stopped at Renee two nights during our trip : very nice place to stay, lovely family ! You have your own indépendance with a separate entry and there is everything you need (not a full kitchen but microwave, fridge, toaster...). 5 min walk to central Te Anau (restaurants and supermarket) and 20 min drive to Manapouri.

    Lisa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • It was much cleaner and location than I thought. But one thing is unfortunate that the bathroom is in the room, but the shower was a little sorry to wash the host's house (?) I was feeling ㅠㅠ Too late to see the washing ... But the host's kindness is not too big. So much better than expected !!!

    Hwayun2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Renee's place. Her family was very kind and helpful but gave us total privacy. The apartment itself was very clean and comfortable, a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Definitely recommend for your stay in Te Anau.

  • Susan's place is great. When we arrived, we were really glad that it is a place away from the city life that we are used to. You will experience living in a farm house where you wake up to greeneries and fresh air. The amenities provided were great. We got to cook our dinner and had a lovely meal before we wash up in a sparkling clean bathroom. We got ready for bed as we on the heaters in the house. It was really cozy! :) Love this place and i recommend all to stay here for an experience! :)

    Ian2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The site is in the middle of a farm with sheep, goats, cows, and deer which was so much fun. The place was really cute and clean. It was also very spacious. Susan was a great host and asked us about our experiences. The place was right near Manapouri which was very convenient for the local tours we had booked. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Our Spacious apartment (on the ground floor of our home) has two bedrooms - one with a double bed the other a double and single. The bathroom is an en-suite off one of the bedrooms. There is off street parking, a full kitchen, living area with Television (Freeview channels) and free WIFI. We are only a 5 minute walk to the many restaurants, shops and our beautiful lake. Our Apartment has a heater that heats the area up in no time and is operated on a timer for 3hrs at a time.
What's unique about our apartment is it's spaciousness in both the living area and the bedrooms. It is comfortable, warm and quiet with little to no road noise from the street. We do live upstairs however with the associated 'noise' of people moving around above, which we try to mindful about.
Te Anau is known as the "Gateway to Fiordland" and has a resident population of some 2,500 people, which swells to around 7,000 in the Summer months. There are many walking tracks for day (or longer) walks. We have cycle tracks, one of which runs along the bank of the Waiau River in Fiordland National Park. Bicycles can be hired from Outside Sports or one of the other three options - including electric bike hire. Fiordland Cinema for "Ata Whenua" a local helicopter pilot, Kim Hollow's 35min aerial view of his vision of parts of Fiordland never seen by the average person, filmed when he was operating as a Deer Recovery Operator. Well worth a watch and thoroughly recommended on the big screen. Our house and apartment is situated within 5 minute walk to many fine (some award winning) restaurants our town has to offer, including... The Black Dog Bar beside Fiordland Cinema on The Lane - for NZ style Tapas. Redcliff Cafe on Mokonui Street - Winner of numerous NZ Beef and Lamb awards. La Dolce Vita - for a genuine Italian experience. If you have children with you, there are two main playgrounds; Lion Park and a smaller one at the boat harbour.
  • Peaceful, clean and homely. Very kind and friendly host, we were very happy here.

  • Julie is a great host and the apartment is very well equipped. We recommend hightly this apartment.

    Denise2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's place was awesome. It is actually a self contained house on its own. It has 2 bedrooms. In one room there is a double bed and a single bed. In the master bedroom there is an attached toilet. I was not comfortable with the wash basin in there. It was so tiny you cannot brush your teeth nor wash your face without splashing out of the basin. Also, not sure if it is the culture here, you have no place to hang your clothes and towel in the bathroom. The kitchen has stoves for cooking. We didnt use it. There is a tiny fridge available for use. Cutlery and kitchen stuff are available. Julie was very kind to open the 2nd room to us after finding out we were a mother and son pair. She allowed us to use both rooms. Not wanting her to have more to clean after we leave, we used the room with the single and double bed. The most pleasant air bnb I have stayed in!

    Ming2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Julie’s place. It was very clean and roomy- lots of space. Location was great only a few mins walk to town.

    Annice2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The host was lovely and the location was excellent.. 5min walk to everything you need. The place has everything for short or long term stay. Clean and tidy aswell. Would stay here again!

    Simon2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place has everything you need and is situated right in Te Anau. We spent five nights in this beautiful area and you can reach everything from Julie's house. The fact that the hosts are living upstairs makes you feel closer to Kiwis😉. However Julie is a top host and very generous! Thank you very much again!

    Norbert2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is well equipped and spacious. The location is quiet and only 5 minutes from the lake. The host's communication behavior is, however, sub-optimal.

  • My boyfriend and I only got to stay with Barry for one night as we were on a tight road trip schedule but we would love to stay for longer in the future! Barry has tons of local recommendations for food and activities, and he has lots of knowledge of the area to share, which made us want to come back to experience more! We really appreciated how flexible he was to accommodate for our late check in and he always responded to my messages quickly. The place itself was so put together and clean. He provides complimentary small breakfast items. Also my boyfriend said that the bed was the most comfortable bed of our trip!

One of 5 cabins, nestled amongst native trees keeps your space private. Being on a hill access to the cabins is a walk from the carpark ranging from 30-50 meters up a rough gravel track. Our bathroom facilities are modern flush toilets and hot showers with excellent pressure! This is in a communal bathroom block located next to the carpark so less than 1min walk up and down the gravel track. While there is no wi-fi , fridge or charging outlets in the cabin our bathroom and laundry area does provide a space for this with a large fridge for all cabin guests.

  • Awesome space, spectacular scenery!

    Ron2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful view and very clean place. You will for sure enjoy the comfy leather couch like we did :).

    Elaine2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Manapouri escape was one of the nicest places we have stayed. Just minutes from Te Anu, but light years away with serenity, peace and a sense of what New Zealand is all about. The house is beautiful, the warm outdoor baths are ingenious and designed efficiently. The view is magnificent and the house is sublime. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer because we went on an overnight kayak trip . Do Not hesitate to book. Thank you!!!!

  • We absolutely loved Rob's place. It is close enough to Te Anau but remote enough to be completely private and so relaxing. The aesthetic of the house is great, it was clean, the bed was comfy, the outdoor baths were amazing (plenty of hot water) and firewood was even provided. The setting is beautiful and we wish we could have stayed longer!

    Sorcha2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place! The accommodation is really roomy with everything you need & has an arty vibe. The views were amazing, it was hard to decide between exploring the area & sitting on the deck or in the baths looking at the view. Thanks for a great stay.

    Bonnie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay a few nights. It’s also a great location for day trips in to Milford Sound. I would recommend this stay.

    Peter2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I can unreservedly recommend Rob’s place for anyone visiting Fiordland. The property is stylish and welcoming and as soon as we walked in we wished we were staying longer than our three days. Quality furnishings and linens, beautiful wooden sculptures, a wide range of books and the folio of local information all add to the sense of comfort and welcome. Sadly it wasn’t cold enough to fire up the wood heater but it looked very inviting. The deep-seated, comfy couch and floor-to-ceiling windows are perfect for taking in the ever-changing mountain views. The setting is perfect - rural, quiet, no neighbours right next door other than a few sheep. Just a few minutes drive in to Manapouri or 10-15 to Te Anau if a supermarket is needed. A couple of tips - the bed is very high. I’m 5’4” and could just clamber up to it. Anyone shorter or with mobility limitations may struggle without some sort of step stool. Also, there is no door between the bedroom and living area so if one of you is a late-night TV watcher and the other wants to sleep, some ear plugs would be an advantage. These are in no way complaints, just intended to be helpful to future visitors. We loved our stay here and certainly hope to make a return trip at some point in the future.
