Your guide to Suffolk Park

All About Suffolk Park

Suffolk Park is a seaside suburban region just south of Byron Bay in scenic New South Wales, around halfway down Australia’s east coast. It’s home to long stretches of beach for surfing and offers swimming spots and even ballooning tours to take in views of the coast and mountain ranges to the west. Suffolk Park is a good base for indulging in all that the Byron Bay area has to offer, including its local seafood. In spite of its secluded feel, the town is convenient to larger spots, even including the Gold Coast, which lies an hour and 20 minutes to the north by car.

The centre of nearby Byron Bay is also a good place to spend the afternoon perusing its many shops and boutiques. For relaxed days where you want to be on the beach alone, residential Suffolk Park is a quiet place to soak up the sun.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Suffolk Park

Suffolk Park sees rainfall throughout the year with a slight decline in the late winter and early spring. Winters are mild and still a good time to enjoy outdoor activities given the more temperate days. The summertime can get quite hot, which is when you’ll want to go to the beach and cool down in the water. The summer also sees a lot of precipitation, but this is balanced out by half of the summer months between December and March being sunny. The rainfall is also what fuels the spectacular waterfalls in Nightcap National Park and Minyon Falls, so summer is when you’ll want to visit these spots. In the autumn, you can hike along Cape Byron to try and glimpse the humpback whale migration to Antarctica off in the distance.

Top things to do in Suffolk Park

Cape Byron

This afternoon adventure is just a 12-minute drive from Suffolk Park. The iconic lighthouse was constructed in 1901 and is a living piece of history that still functions today. You can enjoy panoramic views of the bay or take a tour of the maritime museum. Beyond the lighthouse is the Cape Byron walking track which leads to the Most Easterly Point of the Australian Mainland lookout.

Arakwal National Park

This park is also situated on Cape Byron and offers excellent surfing, while the other side of the cape has calm beaches and the potential for seasonal humpback whale sightings. The park grants you access to a car park and picturesque trails, all while being just minutes from the restaurants of Byron Bay.

Nightcap National Park

Make the hour car ride inland to the lush scenery of this expansive park, where you can explore hiking and walking tracks beneath the canopy amid lush ancient rainforest. Protesters Falls and Minyon Falls are two of the key features of the park, aside from its many protected flora and fauna.
