  • Great place to stay when visiting i.e. Russell Falls. Super clean and Cheryl is a wonderful host, who makes great breakfast! She played and made fun with our baby boy, who really enjoyed it 🙃 Since it was cold she lit ip the fireplace, but bring a jacket and coat - the area gets quite chilly.

Excellent communication from Matt who was away at the time, a warm and friendly welcome from Cheryl on arrival, a very comfortable bed and sumptuous breakfast all made this a memorable stay. A cozy and quirky space to relax in before or after your adventures, conveniently located down the street from the bike park and near the General Store. Enjoy a hot chocolate looking out to Mt Field West and Tyenna Peak or put your feet up and relax on the couch. With an undercover 'atrium', gas fire, nbn internet, bose wifi/bluetooth speaker, bike storage and wash down deck, we can't wait for you to come and enjoy Funky Old Maydena! The property is secure for dogs and we welcome your pooches!
Sleeping arrangements consist of a queen bed in the master bedroom and a single/double bunk bed in the second bedroom. There is a wall mounted TV in the lounge above the open fireplace, with an HDMI cable to plug in your laptop for some evening movies or to stream the mountain bike world cup rounds on. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary basics to cook up a storm for the family or group of friends, and a barbeque is located in the undercover area outside. On the other side of the undercover space is a bungalow that contains the laundry and storage space near to the house. A larger shed contains the bike workshop and storage. In the undercover area you'll find a table and chairs, BBQ, pull out clothes line, sofa, dog bowls, and a large raised dog bed (big enough for George, our Great Dane). Walk around the back of the bungalow to find a purpose built bike wash down deck for pampering your ride after disrespecting it all day on the hill.

Definitely the most generous provisions we’ve ever experienced in an Airbnb anywhere. Perfect place to stay with little ones (baby gear and toys provided). Ours loved exploring the gardens, and feeding the alpacas, sheep, and pony. Linda and Yanni are such lovely and accomodating hosts. They provide a wealth of local information, we enjoyed visiting Mt Field National Park, a lunch on the River at the Possum Shed Cafe, and the Westerway Berry Farm. Could not recommend more highly, we’ll definitely be back.

The small riverside village of Maydena is the gateway to Tasmania's World Heritage wilderness and an ideal stop for those on their way to remote Lake Peddar. Maydena sits by the Tyenna River, south west of New Norfolk between Mount Field National Park and Lake Pedder. The village has a rich forestry heritage but is now better known for its close proximity to some of Tasmania's most beautiful natural places including Mt Field National Park and Southwest National Park. Mt Field National Park, before Maydena, is home to one of Tasmania's most beautiful waterfalls - Russell Falls, a tiered–cascade waterfall just a short walk from the park's visitor centre and one of several waterfalls in the vicinity. At Maydena, experiences include a walk though some of the tallest trees on earth at the Styx Big Tree Reserve and the Railtrack Riders - a unique pedal-powered experience on an historic stretch of railway track. Maydena Bike Park is a gravity-focused mountain bike park offering something for everyone, from families through to elite riders. The Summit café and bar located at the top of the bike park offers one of the most unique dining experiences in Tasmania, with unrivalled 360-degree alpine views across stunning Tasmanian Wilderness. Maydena also offers a range of great rainforest walks that take in local wildlife, towering swamp gums, river and cave systems, glacial lakes and ancient heath groves.

A short walk to Maydena Bike Park, the lodge has magnificent views of Mt Field West and is the best place to unwind after a day's riding or exploring the nearby wilderness. Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed, bedroom 2 a treble bunk (queen + king single) and bedroom 3 has 2 x king single bunk beds and a fold out couch, all great quality mattresses. Both indoor and outdoor dining seats 8, with a full kitchen and BBQ available. The shed provides a secure place to assemble and store your bike.
We’ve done our best to make Sender’s Lodge the perfect place for mountain bikers to recover between runs at the bike park. All our beds are either queen or king single with good quality mattresses to ensure a solid nights rest before another day of shuttles. Wind down on the deck or have dinner with a great view of the Mount Field range. If bringing your own bike, you can assemble your bike in our shed. There is a work stand basic bike mechanic toolkit and a floor pump for assembly and maintenance. There are also brushes and bike wash to clean your bike, so you can avoid the cue for the hoses at the park. Especially after the last shuttle.
Very close to the Maydena Bike Park.

You don't pay extra until after the 4th guest. Kallista Mountain Bike Cottage has been fully renovated and is now available. Perfect place to stay to experience the exciting Maydena Bike Park and surrounding areas. Book now to secure your chance to see what Maydena has to offer. We have changed our payment for extra guests after 2 people to 4 people to make our cottage stand out from the others. You won’t be disappointed !!!! FIRE WOOD will only be supplied throughout the colder months.
April has been blocked out due to the Coronavirus but please contact us if you are looking at staying. In the interest of the health and safety of all my guests, I’m asking everyone to answer the following questions before they book: In the last two weeks, have you or anyone you live with traveled to any areas that have been impacted by the coronavirus? Have you been diagnosed with, or suspect that you have contracted, the coronavirus? Do you currently have any travel restrictions in your area due to the coronavirus?” This cosy 1960's cottage features open plan living with a brand new kitchen that is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher and full laundry facilities. New carpet has been installed in the two generous sized bedrooms with the larger of the rooms featuring 1 x double bed and 2 single beds. The other room boasts a new queen size bed. A new Daiken reverse cycle heat pump has been installed for year round comfort or there is a beautiful free standing wood heater to use, the wood is stored down near the bottom shed and fire lighters in the cupboard under the kitchen sink but please be aware that we will only supply the fire wood throughout the colder months from April until August. Block buster is hanging on the inside of the shed door. The cottage is freshly painted throughout. A flat screen TV is mounted on the lounge wall along with an Xbox and a wide selection of DVD's and games. Kallista MTB Cottage is situated on a large parcel of land featuring off street parking (off Larkins Street) in the rear yard. There is a lockable shed with racks to hang your bike, helmets and equipment. There is also an area to wash your bike down after a fun day of riding. I have just installed an eight ball table in the shed, 25/02/18. Part of the planned renovations is to include a new deck at the rear of the cottage (this is to be built in early 2018 hopefully) which will be the perfect place to wind down, cook a snag on the new BBQ and have a few drinks whilst looking at the beautiful mountain views."DECK IS BUILT" I also plan on completing a full bathroom renovation with new shower and a 2nd toilet, this will hopefully be completed by the time winter hits in 2018. “Bathroom is completed” Maydena offers much more than mountain bike riding, it is the perfect base to explore the nearby Styx Valley, Mt Field National Park, Strathgordon, river fishing and the numerous walking tracks this magnificent location has to offer.
Quite peaceful location set in the pristine south west wilderness

  • This place is magical and full of good vibes. We stayed here just for a night on our way to Mount Field National Park (which is only 10 min away) and absolutely enjoyed our time. The king suite has everything one may need - great bed and shower, lot of books and garden sit out areas and the sunny verandah. We were immediately energized after a long drive. The entire farm is lovely, you can walk till the ponds and meet the alpacas, dogs and 🐈 on the premises.. the garden was in full bloom when we arrived and the beauty and peace was topped by Jenifa’s warm and friendly hospitality. We carried food supplies and the kitchen is perfect to make your own breakfast/ dinner if you chose to. Highly recommended!!

  • Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful part of the world. Very comfortable and the fact that meals were available on request was a bonus. We loved meeting Jenifa and could have chatted for ages. Great pancakes too! Being close to Mt Fields National Park was just great.

    Bea2019-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views from the bedroom and sitting rooms. The bed was super comfy and everything was lovely and clean. Jennifa welcomed us beautifully and made sure we were well looked after. Highly recommended.

    Elizabeth2018-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with my husband and our three month old daughter. Really loved the outside space and that the kitchen is separate from the bedroom so we could relax and cook after bubs went to sleep instead of tiptoeing around. The walk around the back ponds is beautiful and we were cooked an absolutely amazing, fresh breakfast! Be aware before arrival that there isn't much close by for fuel and groceries so plan ahead if you're going to fend for yourself or plan to allow yourself to be spoiled by the amazing cooking!

    Jilliann2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a fabulous two night stay and were very impressed with Jenifa's cooking, and appreciate that she accommodated our dietary preferences (we're vegan)! A lovely property, comfortable rooms, good food and friendly hosts, what more could you want?

    Casey2016-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay this was, I highly recommend this spot for anyone. The room was quite a comfortable space and Jenifa is both a lovely person and perfect host. The property itself is beautiful and tranquil. Thank you Jenifa, I had a lovely stay :)

  • We had such a rich experience at Ellendale with Mandy. The welcome we received from Mandy and Pepe (her gorgeous dog) was as warm as their home. We loved the walks, peace, yoga deck, records, chats, bed and delicious pancake breakfast with brewed coffee. Thank you Mandy for opening your home to us and giving us such fond memories to add to our Tassie holiday.

Board games, table tennis, pool table, firepit, ALL the bike amenities you'll need, coffee machine, - this really is a space that's been thoughtfully curated. Stayed here for a long weekend and would have loved to have stayed longer (my husband would have happily stayed up the mountain bike trails longer too!).

  • Another great stay at our Maydena regular, everything in its place and ready to go on arrival. Beds are so comfy after a big days shredding and the coffee machine perfect for getting up in the morning to do it all again. Thankyou Annabel for the booking flexibility it made a huge difference to our experience, see you next year 👌

    Bart2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks so much for providing such a beautiful and comfortable space which felt like a home away from home! Every little touch including the decor, kitchen facilities, awesome games shed and bike storage (love love LOVED / spent much time flicking through the MTB magazines) was very much appreciated. And wow, couldn't get better access to the MTB park! Our family of 5 were more than comfortable sleeping in 2 out of the 3 ample bedrooms. Would definitely recommend Blue Square to others and come back again time and time again!

    Renee2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place has everything you need in what looks to be a very compact setting. But the shed is so massive, along with a useful covered back area and a fire pit that the small property can give a larger group enough room to spread out. It’s super close to the bike park yet still private, and is well worth booking for your next stay in Maydena.

    Mike2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Annabel's place was great, big secure shed, with pool table which was perfect for rainy day, also loads of space for bikes, washing facilities including brushes etc. super close to the bike park. Blue tooth speakers was also a very nice touch! Well appointed in the kitchen, good selection of cooking appliances / utensils. The welcome instructions were above what i have seen in other places, including alot of local tips such as near by waterfalls to venture to. A very thoughtful complimentary gift was a lovely personal touch to the bikers out there. thank you

  • Lovely house, great views, great renovation. Good spot to base yourself for a trip to Maydena Bike park and beyond in the Derwent Valley.

  • We had a great time, staying at Chris’ place in Maydena. It is a perfect place to base yourself for a riding holiday as it’s less less than two minutes ride from the bike park. The individual bedrooms (with multiple beds in each), and two separate bathrooms and toilets, and lock-up garage were super convenient. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again, when we’re back in Maydena.

    Tim2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot to stay! Plenty of room in the completely renovated house. Easy access with the digital door lock. Will stay again.

  • Great place to stay if you want to explore the surrounding national parks. Clean, comfortable and the host was very approachable. We would love to go back.

  • Above expectations. Very close to the maydena mtb park and the pub 'giants table' which had great tucker and friendly staff. Great place to stay

    Cameron2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Chris’s house in Maydena is exactly as advertised, it was so clean that I felt like I might have been the first one to stay here! It had everything that we needed. It’s a great location for exploring Mount Field National Park and also the last town if you are going to Gordon Dam and Lake Peddie. I had one question while there about how to work an appliance and Chris was easy to get hold of and very helpful. One minor note: the one petrol station in town was closed down when we were there in early Feb so be sure and fill up in Westerway, no idea if there was a plan to reopen it.

    Rebecca2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended. Great place for bikers or those who want to explore the area. Chris is a fantastic host who went out of her way to help us out.

Our home is a lovingly renovated weatherboard property, retaining the 1950's features characteristic of Maydena, but with all the modern conveniences you'd expect to make your stay amazing. Enjoy sun filled bedrooms and living areas with views of our beautiful private garden and the mountains beyond from every window. We're located a two minute walk from Maydena Bike Park, at the gateway to adventure in the Tasmanian Wilderness. We'd love to welcome you to our place!
Our house is fully insulated, has a powerful split system to maintain a cosy atmosphere on cooler nights, and is equipped with air purification. If you're here in winter then fire wood is provided so that you can use the wonderfully warming wood heater. Red wine strongly recommended, though not mandatory. The master bedroom has a Queen size bed and Ecosa mattress, with beautiful garden views. The second bedroom also has a Queen size bed and both have storage space. The third has two Extra Long Single beds. The kitchen features a huge fridge, dishwasher, cooktop, oven and microwave, and is fully furnished with all manner of cooking equipment including basic herbs and spices, oil etc. Full laundry amenities include a brand new washing machine, dryer, and an outdoor clothesline. A newly installed eco-friendly hot water system ensures hot water for well-deserved post adventure showers. If you're here to ride, at the Bike Park or otherwise (Maydena is surrounded by incredible gravel roads), our large garage has a dedicated workshop space complete with basic tools, providing the perfect area to un-pack and carefully rebuild your pride and joy. There's also space to stash helmets and shoes, and an area to store and securely lock bikes. A single off-street parking space is available at the rear of the property.
Maydena's appeal lies in its remoteness, and for this reason we strongly recommend shopping for groceries for the duration of your stay at the nearest supermarket, Woolworths in New Norfolk, close by the BWS Bottle Shop. The General Store in town is a short walk from the house and stocks basic items (think snacks, milk and cold drinks). For dinner, the Bike Park closes at varying times and it's a good idea to call ahead to avoid disappointment. Giant's Table (also a few minutes walk down Junee Road) opens for dinner until early evening and does great pub food. Lastly, The National Park Hotel, around a ten minute drive back towards Hobart offers a great dinner menu. We moved here for the jaw-dropping hikes as much as anything and some of Tasmania's best start just down the road at Mount Field National Park. There you'll find an array of walks to suit all abilities and time constraints, and the wonderful staff are always more than happy to talk you through which would be best suited. After a beautiful hour's drive west you'll find yourself in Strathgordon, and the huge man-made lakes that surround it. We'd highly recommend checking out the Gordon Dam (even if you are afraid of heights!). Let us know if you'd like any further tips and advice on the local area and we'd be more than happy to accommodate.
  • Excellent location, hospitality and communication, will stay again.

    Matt2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to chill out after hitting the bike park. Space to put your bike together and store over night.

    Bill2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great house, the best location right next door to the bike park, dry firewood (it was cold and wet when we were in Maydena), and the house had a spacious lock up for all of our bikes (7). Will definitely be keen to stay in the Schoolmasters Digs next time we are in Maydena. Wifi was also handy that not all airbnb houses have.

The facilities are absolutely spot on for an MTB adventure and the house was sparkling clean with everything you need for a week or more. Larry and Cheryl's communication is immediate and this gives you a real sense of confidence in the hosts. 10 out of 10 for the Digs.

Our fully-renovated cottage sits among fruit trees on a quiet street, just around the corner from the Maydena Bike Park hub. Ride home from a day on the mountain to a private, warm, light-filled sanctuary. Relax fireside in the lounge, or in the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting with views of Tyenna Peak. We have wifi, a new kitchen and bathroom, with unlimited hot water. A secure bike shed and wash bay open on to a private garden - enjoy a drink by the outdoor fire as you tinker with your bike.
FULLY RENOVATED 2017 Sunnybrook Cottage was extensively renovated in 2017 to bring modern comforts to this 1950s classic Maydena workers' cottage. The house is warm and cosy, with a new heat pump in the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area and a wood heater in the separate lounge room. We are a family of mountain bikers and outdoor adventurers, and Sunnybrook Cottage is our family shack. We are delighted to be able to share the house with others when we are not able to be there, and we hope you enjoy the house and the surrounding areas as much as we do. NEW KITCHEN/DINING/SITTING + SEPARATE LIVING The recently renovated kitchen has European appliances (including Miele dishwasher), a premium coffee machine and a large handcrafted farmhouse table perfect for group meals. While dinner cooks on the stove, relax with a drink on the leather couch and take in the view of Tyenna Peak. Alternatively, retreat to the fireside in the separate living room. BATHROOM + LAUNDRY The recently renovated bathroom has unlimited gas hot water, so no one will be left showering in the cold. There is a bath to soak bike weary legs. There is a second toilet off the open plan space. There is a separate laundry with washing machine, a large hills hoist clothes line in the back yard, and an indoor clothes airer. TWO BEDROOMS The master bedroom has a queen bed. The second bedroom has a double bed, single bed and single trundle bed. The couch in the sitting room folds out into a sofa bed if required. All beds have white linen, professionally laundered. Towels are included. SECURE BIKE SHED + WASH BAY + FIRE PIT + BBQ The secure bike shed (with locks and barred windows) is fitted with bike racks, Parktool repair stand and pump, with a bike wash bay just outside. Pull up a pew beside the outdoor fire place in the private gardens, and share tales of your day on the trails while you tinker with your bike. There is also a gas BBQ available for guests to use. ESTABLISHED PRIVATE GARDENS The private, enclosed grounds include a cottage garden, fruit trees, man ferns and a towering blackwood, creating the feel of a private sanctuary in the heart of Maydena. The bike park hub is a five minute walk away. The spectacular Junee Caves (and their resident glow worms) are a scenic 30 minute walk away. The boundless wild of South West Tasmania is on the doorstep - unlimited adventures await.
  • Cute and cosy place, which they've done a great job renovating. Perfect for two couples or small family. Highly recommend taking any food/drinks you want, as there are no supermarkets in Maydena. The kitchen is well stocked, had everything we needed for meals at home. Only a quick ride to the trail head. House is well suited to mountain bike riders.

  • Couldn’t rate this Airbnb highly enough. We had a few days at Emily and Victoria’s place over summer and used it as a base to explore Mt Field national park. It was a perfect location for that and had an amazing garden that we spent the afternoons enjoying. The house is full of thoughtful touches to make your stay enjoyable - we loved being able to use the portable speaker and cooked up a storm in the seriously well equipped kitchen. Thanks so much guys!

  • Victoria and Emily's place is well located and has everything that a guest might require. Although it is in close proximity to the Bike Park it is also close to some great walks including the Mt Field National Park and the beautiful waterfalls including Russell Falls. Their Guide Book is extremely helpful and the accommodation is clean and spacious.

    Amber2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay despite the incessant rain and surprise November hail storm. The trails are really fun and the Maydena bike park has a really nice, relaxed vibe to it. The house was also great; the heater kept us warm, the beds were comfortable and the couch was a great place to play cards from in the evening and look outside. Outside of riding bikes we also went to Strathgordon dam and the Lake Pedder Wilderness resort which I am so glad we did!

  • Trails’ End House provides a perfect space to finish off a day’s mountain biking at Maydena, or hiking in the nearby Mt Field National Park. The house has a really cool vibe with great aesthetics and comfort without sacrificing functionality. The house can generously accommodate a large group, with comfy beds (king singles) spread through a number of rooms, providing privacy if wanted. There is a relaxing lounge area on the 2nd level with a bar fridge and a fireplace. Great views from the balcony on this level too. Downstairs, the kitchen has oodles of space and equipment to prepare a feast. Timber and leather seats give a Scandi/mid-century vibe to the dining area. Deryn’s communication was thorough with clear access instructions and loads of info about the local area. We loved Trails’ End House - no detail has been spared, and as Maydena is our new fave mountain bike area, we’d definitely book again.

    Jenny2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

  • What a wonderful base for the Mt Field area. The best host of our whole trip, Jenifa is not only an awesome cook (home cooked meals!) but can’t do enough for you. Our kids loved the alpacas, row boat on their beautiful little lake and my wife loved the rustic yoga shack by the creek. A lovely farm oasis to come back to after a days hiking the spectacular Mt Field NP.

    Paul2019-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Jenifa's place is a comfortable suite on her private property. She is an amazing host who provides friendly conversation while balancing that with a good amount of privacy as well. We thoroughly enjoyed her hosting, and were blessed to enjoy her excellent cooking through a delicious dinner and breakfast that filled our tummies. We were also there in spring and her well-kept garden was in full bloom! Her property is also located conveniently close to waterfalls and parks we were wanting to see. She is able to give you recommendations for sights and scenery close by. We would recommend her place to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area.

On the edge of the South West Wilderness with many walking tracks and wilderness experiences.
  • Perfect to explore Mt. Field NP, but also a really nice place to spend whole days. Lots of space outside with the river right next to it. Would definitely recommend it.

  • We were looking for a place close to Mr Field NP and you can’t beat the location of Tyenna River Cottage. The thing we didn’t expect was the soothing sound of the river and the hours of peace and tranquility we spent watching the river go by (hoping to see platypus!). Be sure to go outside when it’s dark to see the millions of stars on the sky. Incredible!

    Monika2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant location and amenities. The Tyenna river (complete with trout and platypus) runs right through the property. Super clean and comfortable accomodation, perfectly situated to reach many great points of interest. Make sure to head to the national park just down the road after dark and see it teeming with wildlife including glow worms! We loved our time here and will be back!

  • We loved our stay at Tyenna River Lodge. We loved the little house and were so comfortable there. We really enjoyed the attention to detail in the house, the kitchen was well laid out with everything you could need (even some basic cooking supplies), the beds were really comfortable, the location was gorgeous and peaceful and the walks in the National Park were lovely. We will definitely be back to the area and highly recommend this lovely place.

Things to do: Mt Field National Park is one of Tasmania's most loved national parks. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other national parks in Australia offer such a diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest along the Lake Dobson Road, to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations. The park essentially has two visitor sections. The first, near the park entrance, includes picnic facilities and the famous Russell Falls. Stunning walks through enormous fern forests and some of the tallest trees in the world are available in this area. The second visitor section is centred at Lake Dobson and includes the long day walks and skiing areas. For the latest snow reports during the ski season, see . Dramatic mountain scenery and alpine plant communities are a feature of the higher parts of the park. Mt Field - Tyenna Valley The causeway across Lake Meadowbank leads to the diverse Tyenna region, the home of the tallest hardwood trees in the world. Photograph the old shingle-roofed hop kilns on the way to Westerway – gateway to the Tyenna region. Ellendale, the view of an often snow-capped Mt Field East appears before you. The Tyenna River is abundant in feisty stream trout and it's an ideal place to spot a platypus before travelling on to the renowned Russell Falls at Mt Field National Park, where Tasmania's eco-systems are easily accessible. One of the area's treasures is the Junee cave at Maydena. Rainforests flourish in the Florentine and other nearby valleys. Enclose yourselves in wet myrtle forests, and explore the "Eagle Eyrie" at Abbott's Peak. Before you leave the area, experience the unforgettable scenery of Lake Pedder and the South-West Wilderness World Heritage Area. Did you know? The last Tasmanian Tiger was caught in the Florentine Valley near Maydena The Tasmanian South West Wilderness Area comprises 1.38 million hectares of pristine wilderness. Lakes Pedder and Gordon form the largest inland freshwater storage in Australia - 27 times the volume of water in Sydney Harbour . The tallest tree in the Styx Valley is over 86 metres high. The highest commercial abseil in Australia is at the Gordon Dam. The Junee cave system contains the deepest caves in Australia Russell Falls is lit up at night by glow-worms Mt Mawson Mount Mawson is located within the Mount Field National Park and about 1½ hours drive from Hobart in southern Tasmania. The ski areas are at an altitude of about 1250m and the area usually gets fairly consistent snow falls during winter resulting in sufficient cover for downhill skiing from mid July to mid September. Mount Mawson is a small club field operated by the Southern Tasmania Ski Association (STSA). The area is open to the general public for downhill skiing. The STSA is formed from members of the seven ski clubs with lodges on the mountain the area, the Ski Club of Tasmania, Oldina Ski Club, Wellington Ski Club, Hobart Walking Club, Mount Mawson Ski Club, Alpine Club of Southern Tasmania and the University Ski Club. Members of these ski clubs help to maintain and operate the tows. There are three 'nutcracker' rope tows and one small surface lift in the beginners area. Tow belts for use with the rope tows can be hired on the mountain. The tows are accessed from the car park via a scenic 20 minute uphill walk through alpine forest. This can often be skied on the way home. The area caters for beginners, intermediates and expert skiers and snowboarders and has one of the steepest runs in the country. Trainer ski patrollers are on duty whenever the tows are operating. There are numerous cross country skiing possibilities from Mount Mawson including the Rodway Range, the Tarn Shelf and Mount Field West. A number of public shelter huts are located in these areas. • Cosy place a stones throw from the bike park. We rented 2 places for our crew in Maydena. Jennifer was easy to deal with and everything was as expected. Would recommend to others.

  • Everything was seamless and hassle-free. It was the perfect place to stay for a fabulous Winter adventure - getting out on our bikes in the day & keeping warm and cosy at night! Thanks for having us.

  • Cosy house very close to centre of town and only a few hundred metres from bike park. Garage is good for secure bike storage. Basic old house but has everything you need for a few days in town. Electric blankets were a good touch for those cold nights!

    Adrian2018-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • The heater is amazing although part of me wanted to get the fire going.

    Nathan2018-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy house with everything you could possibly need. The heater in the lounge room is capable of melting polar ice caps (this is a good thing as Maydena can get a little chilly). The Maydena bike park is also within two minutes ride. Awesome.

  • I had my first trip to Maydena to see what all the fuss was about with the bike park. Violetta was a great host and provided some helpful tips for places to go for the kids and wife while I was busy hitting table tops and berms in the bike park. The house was clean and well kept, plenty of storage space, we were able to cook and be self sufficient as the town has limited retail options. I enjoyed the relaxed vibe of the town and the kids liked the space to run around and venture down around the river and nearby caves. Looking forward to coming back soon.

    Greg2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house. Excellent location, a little pathway just down the road takes you to the pump track at the bike park. A few minutes walk to the pub and platypus spotting. We were glad we chose to stay here.

    Andy2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to come with family or a group of friends for an amazing time. Perfect location if you into mountain biking and hiking. Only a few minutes walking distance away from the Maydena gravity park and 15 minutes by car from the Mount Field hiking trails. The front deck was perfect to chill out and have a bbq and some drinks. The fireplace was great to sit by while watching movies or relaxing in the evening. Very comfortable, spacious, clean and accomodating. Lock in garage that allowed to leave our bikes in a safe place when they were not needed was a huge bonus. Welcome complimentary cold beer in the fridge was a nice surprise. The house has absolutely everything that's needed when coming back after a day on the trials with air conditioning, washing machine, dryer, coffee machine, new comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, free Wifi and a big TV. All modern and of high quality. I would highly recommend this place and will book it again soon!

  • Violetta’s home is a beautiful space to stay. We stayed with our 3 young children and there was plenty of room for everyone. The home is newly renovated and beautifully decorated with lovely touches throughout. The mountain views from the main bedroom are magical! We took the kids to the snow at Mt Field National Park which was such an amazing adventure. There are many beautiful walks nearby to explore. Highly recommend and would love to come back

  • JD’s place was great!! Very nice & spacious. Very easy to find and get into the house. We came on a day where the temperature dropped drastically and walked into a place with the heater already on for us :) It was very cozy and we felt at home! The place was super close to Mount Field, with a great view all around.

  • JDs is a great place to stay if you are visiting Maydena, either for the mountain bike park or the the national parks. The house is 2 minutes ride to the MB Park. It is spacious and has a rustic charm. The backyard is beautiful with tree ferns and huge trees and the BBQ area is great. The house has all the amenities needed. The amenities are not the latest and highest quality but everything is clean and is functional. The linen is plentiful and all white and fresh. Besides the bike park, we visited Lake Pedder and the Gordon Dam, and Mt Fields National Park. There’s not many shops in close proximity so it’s good to stock up in New Norfolk before heading to Maydena. The MB Park makes great coffee and also serves lunch. Once you are at the house, it is so peaceful and great to be away from it all. However, there’s good wifi that works well, so you can still keep connected. We enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

  • Clean, practical and quiet, this property is conveniently located to trails in a picturesque setting - with a stream running through back yard! We had a super comfy summer stay with small kids.

    Jasmine2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • ‘Charming’ and ‘magical’ are two words I’d use to describe our accommodation in Maydena this past week. The Riders Cottage is situated last in the road, so the solitude and privacy were much appreciated. The evenings sitting on the back porch watching the sunset and listening to the breezes and babbling sounds of the stream at the edge of the garden, are ‘picture-book’ memories. The cottage itself is so spacious and very well supplied with everything one might require, down to a basket of pegs. Tastefully decorated and scrupulously clean, were factors that ensured our stay, was a most pleasant experience. Likely to revisit? Absolutely!
