Surrounded by serene forests and wild hinterland, Springbrook is a relatively secluded locality known for its proximity to unique outdoor and nature viewing activities like hiking, camping, and mountain climbing. Once known as Numinbah Plateau, the mountain and plateau locality is set about 80 kilometres south of Brisbane and 20 kilometres inland from Gold Coast, making it the ideal portal to several popular parks and conservation areas. The largest and most notable of these is Springbrook National Park, which features hiking trails, waterfall lookouts, and campgrounds all set amongst mountains and lush rainforest teeming with unique wildlife like koalas.

While the area is host to an abundance of natural wonders, the town itself hosts a small number of cafes, restaurants, and shops, as well as an observatory and planetarium. Despite a smaller population of an estimated 700 and below, the locality sees a great number of visitors each year seeking to explore, photograph, and enjoy the gorgeous natural beauty there is to offer.

You can enjoy a trip to Springbrook year-round, as the average temperatures throughout the year are generally mild to warm. Those looking to hike or stay at higher elevations (above 1,500 feet) should pack warm clothing. During the summer months, the area is a bit more bustling with the warmer weather. Springbrook National Park is open 24 hours a day, and you can hike there as well, but only during daylight hours. Nighttime tours and individual visits of Natural Bridge Cave to observe the glow worms are popular attractions year-round.

Home to a whole array of natural beauty, Twin Falls offer the superb opportunity to walk, jog, or hike the trails nearby before reaching the identical waterfalls that welcome you at the end. As a reward for all the hard work done, plunge into the waters below the falls and cool off before returning home. Marvel at panoramic views of the McPherson Range from this stunning lookout point. Accessible and family-friendly, this attraction features a large parking lot that connects visitors to the viewpoint via an easy trail that’s under a kilometre long. Enjoy the view at sunrise when hilltops and mountains poke up through a blanket of fog, revealing the mountain range that serves as part of the border between New South Wales and Queensland.

Springbrook Research Observatory

Take advantage of Springbrook’s crystal clear skies and observe the stars and Milky Way at this unique research center and observatory. Featuring a building with retractable roofs, the Springbrook Research Observatory offers guided stargazing sessions with its owner, architect, and lead researcher. For rainy or cloudy forecasts, be sure to give the observatory a ring ahead of time to ensure availability.
