Enjoy open log fires in the sitting room. Eat fresh produce from our farm. Surrounded by Wilkin Flora & Fauna Reserve, famed for native orchids, abundant & rare wildlife. Your horses & dogs are invited to visit. You can walk, fish, canoe, bird, swim and spot platypus! Enjoy eggs from our poultry & produce from our garden.
Tolka Cottage is cosy and comfortable in all seasons. Discreet and private in a quiet location. It is ideal for those who wish to escape from the urban environment, for families, for small groups of friends, for naturalists interested in native flora and fauna and for those who wish to star gaze in our dark night skies. Wake up to native bird song and you may also hear a cockerel or two. The famed Tolka breakfast ingredients, for a great country breakfast, are included for your first morning – fresh Tolka eggs, bacon, tomatoes, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, homemade Tolka jams & bread made by Ivy, filter coffee & a variety of teas. There is a formal sitting room and a more informal sunroom. The bedrooms consist of 3 bedrooms consisting of a queen bed, a double bed & 2 single beds made up with top quality bed linen, continental quilts and towels. In addition, they all have electric blankets for those cool winter nights. There is reverse cycle air conditioning for your comfort. The bathroom has shower & toilet. The laundry has a washing machine & dryer. In addition there is an outside shower & separate toilet. Both bathrooms have good hot water from a gas fired boiler. Tolka Cottage has colour TV, DVD & stereo/CD player, interesting books & games.
This is a secret corner of Australia, undiscovered by mass tourism. A hidden delight for the connoisseur. It will suit those who are travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide, or those who are on the route to, or from, the Great Ocean Road and/or the Limestone Coast. The Cottage makes an ideal stop over, for a couple of nights, for a complete chill out. It provides a retreat for those who wish to enjoy the many festivals at Mt. Gambier and Coonawarra, but who want to have the freedom to escape from the crowds, at the same time. The farm with its wild areas, left unspoilt to encourage wildlife and its billabong will enrapture the unadventurous. Those who venture into the Wilkin Flora & Fauna Reserve which surrounds Tolka, will be treated to a botanical delight, rich in native wild flowers, orchids and fungi. The Casterton Horse Races take place several times a year and are a fun day out for the family and Tolka is ideally suited as a base for race goers, especially, if they wish to tap into Ivy's expert knowledge of the racing world. Tolka Cottage is always in demand for the Casterton Kelpie Festival each June. The Kelpie breed of dog originated in this area and is celebrated with the Kelpie Muster, the Festival and Working Dog Auction. So book early. There are several golf courses within easy reach: Casterton Golf Course, 15 minutes away, is the closest, followed by Coleraine Golf Club, 30 minutes away. There are two courses at Mt. Gambier, a 50 minute drive.
  • A gorgeous secluded cottage great to get away from the hustle and bustle. Ivy was lovely and had thought of everything to make our stay more pleasant including a fresh loaf of bread, home made jams and fresh eggs from the chickens out the back. Absolutely recommend!

  • Great place to relax and unwind!

  • Ivy’s place is a beautiful and well appointed farm cottage set on a gorgeous working property, nestled within the amazing Wilkin Nature Reserve. We found Tolka to be the most lovely place to start our days; being woken by the chooks (who provide the most Devine eggs for brekky), to be followed with plenty of options of activities around the area to fill our day. And finally finish each day watching the sunset on the hill with the company of the kangaroos!

  • The cottage is very clean and tidy and there were lovely welcoming touches like biscuits and breakfast goodies. The location is perfect for a relaxing get away from it all and the wildlife is great.

  • Very relaxing and casual. Serene and peaceful.

  • We have just loved our four day stay at Tolka Stud cottage. It is a charming rural setting, with walks around the farm and down to the river, a very pleasant pastime to really take advantage of relaxing and time out. The views from the front porch where we relaxed in the morning for breakfast and evening with drinks and nibbles were wonderful. Farm produce was amazing and generous from our delightful host, Ivy. Homemade biscuits, bread, and farm produce such as eggs, jams and bacon and sausages were a fantastic breakfast not to mention the herbs in the garden. The decor is delightful with lovely prints of birds and landscapes and very comfortable chairs and divans to rest on reading a wonderful collection of books, magazines and periodicals. You can completely immerse yourself in this wonderful rural environment and relax completely. Extremely comfortable bed, very clean bathroom and two toilets should you need them. Kitchen was extremely well appointed and our host could not do anything more for us. Even a pair of walking shoes because I had forgotten mine! And a booking at Hollick’s for lunch during our stay was worth the hour’s drive through the bush. Very pastoral coming into the Coonawarra and return drive home. We are looking forward to returning. Susan and Peter

  • The Coonawarra is an amazing place for a weekend break, but Ivy’s place made the whole weekend even more special. Quiet, beautiful and teeming with wildlife, it’s a perfect holiday home if you’re into getting away from it all.

  • This is such a lovely place. A long way from anything but that’s exactly why you’d go there. Just beautiful scenery, wildlife, fresh eggs, vegies from the garden. Roosters and chooks let you know you’re really on a farm of a morning. Emus, kangaroos, koalas, even platypus. Beautifully decorated, unpretentious, immaculately clean, super soft doona, fire all laid out on arrival. Even home made bread, biscuits and jam. And Ivy is very friendly and gives detailed directions. She’s really thought of everything. Hope to have the chance to return. Thank you!
