Places to stay in Poolewe
Bothan na Tilleadh is a wee house on the edge of Europe - in Polbain by Achiltibuie on the Coigach Peninsular in Wester Ross in North-western Scotland overlooking the sea with views of the Summer Isles. It is perfect for couples or a young family.
Most accommodation on Coigach is larger. Our wee house is one of very few that is ideal for a couple or a young family. It is neat, compact and convenient. It features a large window in the sitting room so, no matter what the weather, and here we have weather, the view can enjoyed, sunshine or rain. We have extra beds, a cot and a high-chair that can put at your disposal.
Polbain offers tranquility above all. It is quiet with quite superb views over the seas and Summer Isles. Coigach as a wholes has wonderful walking, the superb Achnahaird beach and some of the best sea-kayaking in Britain as well as a good shop and two bars and restaurants.
  • Good scenic location. Rained a lot however bungalow was warm as fully equipped with portable heaters

  • Ian is an amazing host. 5 stars

  • Great place to stay. Amazing location. Great local tips.

  • Had a great stay at Ian’s place. He gave us detailed instructions since sat nav and mobile coverage up there is spotty so found the place with ease. He gave us spot on recommendations for the pub down the road and we had an amazing meal there. And the views from the sitting room, out onto the water were amazing. Would stay here again :)

  • A comfortable bothan at a secluded location, equipped with everything you need. The rules may be a bit more emphasized than usually, and Ian will take a good look at you – no doubt some guests in the past misbehaved a bit –, but he is a genial, thoughtful and attentive host. I definitely recommend the bothan, we had a good time there, and it is quite a special place. Everything is clean and in good condition.

  • Tidy flat with all ammenities you'd expect. Fabulous location. Remote if you are looking for that - we were. Stay again.

    Stephen2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful location. Ian made us feel very welcome and we were delighted to find that the house not only had absolutely superb views but was full of lovely little touches that made it feel comfortable, homely and so much more than a holiday cottage. Would definitely like to return.

Traditional 19th century crofter's cottage in the village of Inverasdale overlooking Loch Ewe, refurbished to provide modern self-catering convenience whilst retaining its rustic character. Set within 6 acres of partially wooded croft land with access to the loch shore and panoramic views over the mountains of the Great Wilderness, Beinn Eighe & Sutherland. Huge sandy beaches are 5 minutes away by car and close to the famous North Coast 500 touring route. Children & pets welcome.
Coille Bheag is a six-acre working croft situated in Inverasdale, on the shores of Loch Ewe in the wild and beautiful landscape of Wester Ross, perfectly placed for exploring the hills and mountains of the Great Wilderness or the Torridons as well as our wild land and beautiful beaches. We are within the Wester Ross National Scenic Area and the Unesco Biosphere, 4 miles from the village of Poolewe and the NC500 tourist route. We enjoy beautiful views across the loch towards the mountains, including An Teallach; Beinn Eighe and the mountains at Ullapool and in Sutherland, and have direct access to the loch shore. The Cottage is a traditional 19th century stone-built Highland croft house, set up for self-catering and sleeping up to six people in two double bedrooms (one of which is on ground floor) plus one single bedroom with extra pull-out bed. (We can lend you a travel cot for babies if you let us know in advance, but bring your own baby bedding!) Children and pets are welcome, but we're sorry, the Cottage is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs. It commands beautiful panoramic views over Loch Ewe and the mountains and there is no street lighting for miles, so if you're a stargazer you'll see wonderful dark starry skies on a clear night. If you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! The cottage has its own garden area, a sun lounge, and ample parking. The living room has a compact Aga stove which burns coal or wood, set in the original old stone fireplace. We can supply you with fuel, which is included in the price you pay along with electricity. The room has satellite TV/radio and DVD/CD player as well as two small sofas and a coffee table. A range of books, DVDs & CDs is also available for you to enjoy. The bathroom is on the ground floor. The Cottage is great for a family holiday or a romantic getaway - and if you come for Christmas, we'll even throw in a real Christmas tree from our own managed wood.
This is a friendly traditional crofting village in a very rural environment. There's plenty of scope for outdoor activities - walking, swimming, cycling, climbing, fishing, wildlife watching or messing about in kayaks - but not much in terms of nightlife! We're very close to some wonderful beaches, some within walking distance, and we're conveniently placed for hillwalkers. There aren't many opportunities for formal dining, but there are plenty of pubs and cafes offering good food, some of which are open throughout the winter. There's a pub, shop, weekly market (not winter) and indoor heated swimming pool available in the local village of Poolewe (10 mins by car), and many more shops, pubs and takeaways in the larger village of Gairloch (20 minutes by car). Boat trips and day cruises are also available in Gairloch or the ferry port of Ullapool (90 minutes) or you can go kayaking on our loch with local company Ewe Canoe. If you're into history, there are two local museums nearby to visit - Gairloch Heritage Museum, and the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum in Aultbea. Keen gardeners can visit Poolewe's world-famous Inverewe Garden (10 minutes), there is a pony trekking centre at nearby Red Point, and golfers can enjoy "possibly the best wee golf course in Scotland" at Gairloch Golf Club by the beach.
  • We had such a good time on our weekend to the cottage. Such a calm space with lovely welcoming people and thoughtful touches to help us enjoy our stay. We were only sad we had to leave!

    Hanza2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair is a very welcoming host. The cottage is a lovely old place with lots of character. Really cosy with the log burner. Loved the garden, we could walk down to the lock and explore the rockpools. Further up the road there is a beach you can visit. We had a little swim there too. And the views from the upstairs windows are amazing!!!

    Vanessa2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing cottage to explore one of the best bits of the world. Everything you need and more thoughtful touches!

    Tom2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A perfectly formed original cottage in a trad, and slightly quirky, comfortable and cosy style. It's in the most amazing location for both quiet and active moods and enjoys ever changing light, colour and weather which affect the stunning views and landscape all around it. Alasdair and Clare were easygoing and helpful hosts. And their hens lay quality fresh eggs should you run out. Altogether a happy and memorable stay in a fantastic part of West Coast Scotland.

    Valeska2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quirky cottage with lots of character and incredible views. Helpful hosts and stunning beaches nearby which meant we enjoyed some fabulous winter walks! Struggled to find somewhere nearby for a "pub lunch" but imagine this wouldn't be such a problem in season. Great find!

    Jodie2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, comfy and well equipped, a great place to stay with stunning views.

    Martin2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place for winter break, we will need to come back in the summer! Thanks for a great Christmas

    Catriona2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was a pleasure to stay in, was very cosy, especially with the fire on and Alasdair and Kate were very accommodating (helped get our car out of a ditch, oops!). The views here are stunning and we spent a lot of time at the loch just staring out. Seeing all the stars was one of the best things I’ve ever seen and was definitely the highlight of my weekend. I’d definitely go back and recommend anyone looking for a relaxing time away to book this amazing place! Thanks again to you both.

Upstairs on the mezzanine is a large loft-style double bedroom with king size bed. Some of the furniture within the house is antique or has been creatively upcycled to add individuality and character to the interior. The house sleeps up to 4 people, and there's a also an extra camp bed available if you want to bring a fifth person (we can lend you a travel cot for babies if you let us know in advance, but bring your own baby bedding!) We also loved watching the plethora of birds in the garden while enjoying our breakfasts overlooking the Loch. We made good use of the local walking guidebook as there’s such a selection of amazing walks in the area. We really hope to return, Shieldaig is a magical little place. The Bothy is a small converted barn with open plan living, ideal for adventures. Modern facilities, wood burning stove and large shower, in a light and comfortable space.
Rural village on the North Coast 500 route. 5 mins from Inverewe Garden. Ideal base for hill walkers, cyclists and touring.
  • Charming, comfy and cosy. Fantastic location too.

    Kate2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Bothy is a quiet and peaceful place with everything you need for your stay. A little shop just down the road provides anything else you may need. It is situated in an ideal location for exploring the area and was sparkling clean. We received a warm welcome from Dorothy as well as a roaring fire in the wood burner which made for a warm and cosy evening. Would definitely recommend.

    Cheryl2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent Bothy. Very cosy with the fire on

    Carol2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay in a cosy, clean and warm little cottage. Dorothy was pleasant and happy and available if needed. Everything that is needed was made available and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little cottage B&B for a lovely quiet stay.

    Ruth2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the Bothy and you will too. A very tasteful conversion with everything you need for your stay. Highland hospitality at its best and brilliantly situated in a postcard pretty village. An ideal base for touring this amazing part of the world. Stoer lighthouse is a must see, a lovely drive up to the Cove to the war memorial and chance meeting with a large heard of Highland cows. In Poolewe itself the village shop is well stocked and the pub does great food. Gairloch is close by and a lovely trip. Enjoy...we did!!

    Bev2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place as advertised and the wood stove going when we arrived was a welcoming touch! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Anna-Marie2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This accommodation was a lovely surprise, even though I had of course studied the description and photos. The building is cleverly restored. You can tell that was done a while ago, since some fixtures and fittings could use a bit of tlc, but that won't affect your stay much. What this accommodation has in abundance is coziness. When we arrived, the fire was burning and we felt so welcome and instantly, soothingly comfortable after a wet (but beautiful) day. We made ourselves a cup of tea, settled in the two chairs by the fire and felt very content. We very much appreciated the separate beds, close enough to feel together but nice to not feel everything the other person does. It's very quiet, and nice and dark at night. The kitchen has enough amenities to prepare your meals. Parking is right in front of the property. Its situation a bit off the road gives a nice secluded feel. One of those places you wish you had arrived earlier to be able to enjoy it a bit longer.

    Chantal2019-09-15T00:00:00Z

The house has been recently renovated to keep the original feel of the old croft house but now has added contemporary design and amenities - WiFi, chilled out lounge, dining room, big kitchen to eat and be merry, fabulous garden and 2 big bathrooms. The house faces south so it's light, airy and warm. We are only 100 metres from the coast and the NorthCoast500 - this is a paradise for cyclists, walkers, lovers of nature, climbers, water sports enthusiasts, artists, musicians and photographers....
The house is on two floors - bedrooms, landing, cupboard and bathroom with bath and shower on this floor whilst on the ground floor we have the dining room with seating for 6, lounge with our famous pallet sofa (!), large TV for evenings in, woodburning stove (new top of the range Yotul), big kitchen with space to prepare, cook and serve dinner. The kitchen gives access to the garden which wraps around the property and has a view up the glen....it'sa special place. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, and fridge with small freezer. Also coffee and tea pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc all provided to make your stay as easy and pleasant as possible!
There is so much to do and see in this part of Scotland. There's a great walk directly from the house to Loch Kernseary with spectacular views across to Torridon, Loch Maree and Slioch are a short distance away, Inverewe Gardens are a must, fishing trips and whale watching cruises are to be had from Gairloch Harbour. There are great cafes and restaurants in the area too - Poolewe hotel does simple but good quality food and The Bridge Cafe in the village is excellent for coffee and home bakes (Manu and Ana are from Galicia and give Poolewe a little Iberian charm!).
  • Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Spacious and nicely presented accommodation. Would definitely book again!!

  • An amazing place to stay and thoroughly recommend. The cottage is lovely and comfortable and has everything you need. The location is stunning with lots to do in and around Poolewe, or just to sit and stare at the scenery. Plenty of walking to do from the front gate for humans and dogs. Definitely want to return.

  • Lovely place, so peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The accommodation was so clean, the neighbour Scott checked us in and gave some great tips. I could absolutely recommend this cottage, there is a ‘coffee box’ manned by Vincent just down the lane who makes great churros, and Inverewe gardens is just up the road. The cottage is very well equipped, has everything you need and we loved it! Great place, thanks again.

  • We can highly recommend staying here. The location is great, close to the sea in a quiet side road off the main road through Poolewe. It is very easy to access the local shops and hotel on foot. • It’s a huge space in a really warm cozy house. Mairi is a lovely host and took care of us very well. We had a little struggle finding the place but I would blame google map. The breakfast is not included in the price but Mairi gave us enough food items to have in the morning which was like the breakfast for us. Highly recommended.

  • Aside from being in the village of Poolewe and not far (~5 miles) from Gairloch, this airbnb has many perks. The room we stayed in was spacious and sparkling clean. The TV, mini-fridge, sitting area, ensuite, and lovely garden view (with koi pond) all added to our pleasure. Superhost Mairi is super friendly and made us feel very welcome during our 2-night stay. Breakfast foods provided were plentiful, and we stretched them to last us for a while. We were sorry to leave!

  • Everything about this place is PERFECT. Building and everything in it is top quality. Could not fault this place. Even to have binoculars was a brilliant touch! I highly recommend this wonderful get away. Thank you!! :)

  • Tigh Na Mara is a fantastic place. The views from every room are stunning, and you can sit for hours just staring out to sea. There are two sets of binoculars, so you don't have to fight over who gets to see the local otter (we saw it at high tide). The kitchen is well equipped, and has oil, salt and pepper. The place is located close to lots of walks, and there are a couple of books there with walk descriptions if you come unprepared.

    Anna2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning chalet in an idyllic location. The views are breathtaking. The chalet is immaculate and it has everything you need. The wood burning stove is amazing after a day of exploring! We spotted 2 otters from the window! We will 100% be back to stay. We recommend a visit to Sango Sands and Auchmelvich Beach. Beautiful white sand and blue seas. Thanks again.

  • Just complete perfection, nothing to fault, nothing to change. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect. We spotted birds, seals and stags, went on stunning walks right from the front door and just loved every moment. Julian was so helpful and responded super quickly

    Charlie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is simply an amazing space and will be stunning at any time of the year. The accommodation has everything you could want or need. We chose to spend as much time as possible at Tigh-na-Mara and utilised the well equipped kitchen to cook each night, looking at the spectacular view. We had combinations of wind, rain, sun, sleet, hail and rainbows, all of which we could watch from the cosy comfort of the living room, with the wood burning stove keeping us warm. I would highly recommend this place, the pictures are gorgeous, but don’t come close to the reality of just how lovely it is. We have stayed at many Airbnb’s - this is absolutely one of the best and will exceed your expectations. If you can get booked, just do it...

  • We’ve just had the most amazing few days at Kev & Anne’s cottage in Torridon. 3 days simply wasn’t enough, and despite it being January & most places locally being closed, we were happy to spend our time by the fire in such a beautiful space! We went to Applecross for lunch & did the Diabaig to the Craig bothie walk & seen some of the most spectacular scenery. And the stars ❤️ We will definitely be back ;)

  • A lovely, cosy, very well equipped and extremely comfortable cottage. Home from home. We loved everything about it...the story behind the cottage, the beautiful internal decorations, the amenities and the wonderful views across Loch Torridon. It was definitely rebuilt with love and passion for the surrounding area. Our ideal holiday cottage. Torridon is a place of outstanding natural beauty and is well placed for some very good 'hill walking' and other low level walks. Recommend the walk up to the Triple Buttress. The triple buttress and the clear water of the hill loch is a sight to behold. A short drive to Shieldaig is worth the visit and the a must do is the Bealach na Ba to Applecross and a return journey along the coast road. Nanny's in Shieldaig is good for lunch and cake. Liz Broome's pop-up 'Fish Friday' at the local village hall / gallery was a definite highlight. So glad we made it and the fish curry and prawn tempura was amazing. Good coffee and cake at the Gallery and the village shop. We would recommend Anne and Kev's place to anyone and we hope to go back there again.

  • We stayed in the house for a week and it was just amazing. We lacked nothing. It was thought of everything and decorated with a lot of love. A small house for absolute well-being and for switching off.

    Maria2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Torridon is a remote and beautiful mountainous area and the cottage is delightful. Kev and Anne have put a great deal of love and care in to developing the cottage. It is cosy, relaxing and equipped with everything you need. Anne and Kev are friendly and helpful and we had a fantastic holiday.

    Julie2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is beautifully and thoughtfully equipped and decorated and a great base for exploring the area. Loch Torridon is a fantastic location, it somehow has wild remoteness and sheltered friendliness at the same time. Anne and Kevin are lovely hosts, warm and welcoming.

  • An absolute gem. A fabulous place to stay where everything has been thought of, sparklingly clean and extremely comfortable. Lovely hosts and an amazing area to explore. Thoroughly recommend.

  • We had a wonderful week in this great cottage. Anne and Kev are super hospitable and makes you feel welcome and very comfortable. They have valuable tips and hints for hikes, excursions and food. The contact was very friendly, fast and uncomplicated. The cottage is super clean and very tastefully decorated with everything you need. We just spent a rainy day there because it was so comfortable. Torridon and its surroundings are just amazing. We would definitely come again. Absolutely recommended!

Unique, peaceful, loch-side accommodation on working croft on Loch Ewe's western shore. A comfy double bed, with a single bunk bed above, in Juliette's cosy shepherd's hut. A shower-room, kitchenette, dining and lounge areas are in the Hub nearby. Electric vehicle charging point. Set in Wester Ross National Scenic Area and Unesco Biosphere, 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Poolewe and NC500 route. Uninterrupted views over loch to An Teallach; Sutherland mountains and Beinn Eighe.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the top single bunk bed in Juliette's has a built-up side, so is suitable for children confident of climbing the sturdy ladder hooked to the side. THE CROFT We specialise in growing historical daffodil varieties, maintaining Plant Heritage's National Plant Collection of pre-1930 daffodils, so the croft is ablaze with white, gold and orange in April. Although we don't keep livestock, this is a three-and-a-half-acre working croft, and during the summer we're working flat-out lifting, cleaning and sorting out daffodil bulb orders for despatch. We have many commitments, so we're constantly chasing our tails, and we can't deny the croft looks messy -- especially after summer rain. Some of the land is peaty, rough grazing, but the inbye is bulb plots and grass and meadow flowers. The grass is kept long deliberately to encourage birds to feast on the seed (and to attract corncrake, which haven't found us yet), with paths mown through it. JULIETTE'S For your comfort, there is an electric panel heater in the hut and a choice of duvets of varying TOGs, plus fleecy throws and microwavable bedwarmers. There is bench seating and a table in the hut, and, for al fresco dining, a table fitted over part of the towing gear with cushions for the plat. THE HUB The lounge area of the Hub has a corner window seat, a comfy sofa, and a television with DVD slot and FreeSat box. A JVC radio plays tapes and CDs. The kitchenette has a coffee machine, toaster, kettle, induction hob, combination microwave and 'fridge, plus all the cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses you should need to rustle up a meal. Please ask if we've forgotten something. Teas, coffees, drinking chocolate, sugar and milk are provided. The dining area seats four comfortably. The Hub has convector heaters in both the main room and the shower-room. Toiletries, a hair dryer, feminine hygiene products and basic first aid items are provided -- please feel free to have a rake around in the cupboard beside the wash hand basin. Just ask if there's something else you need. An expanding heated clothes horse for wet clothes can be set up in the vestibule of the Hub.
The croft is an ideal base for outdoor activities: walking, (energetic) cycling, birdwatching, botanising, kayaking, swimming (wild or tame), climbing and photography. Sandy Firemore beach lies a couple of miles north of us, just beyond Inverasdale Primary School, now a volunteer-led tea room, open for delicious homemade bakery on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Further along the peninsula is the tiny, working harbour of Cove, and, at the end of the road, are dilapidated WWII gun emplacements and the Sasan, which commemorates the brave Royal Navy and merchant seamen who perished undertaking the "worst journey in the world" (Churchill). If you'd like to know more about the role Loch Ewe played in WWII, head along to the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum, beside the main road at Aultbea (10 miles/16 km away). To witness how this challenging environment has been tamed horticulturally, visit Inverewe Garden, a mile northeast of Poolewe, en route to Aultbea. During the summer, you can lunch at Aultbea village hall on a Thursday; visit the market at Poolewe village hall on a Tuesday, and dance to a ceilidh band there on Wednesday nights. On Friday evenings (5 to 7 p.m.), fish and chips are served from a caravan beside Poolewe camp-site. Poolewe Hotel serves evening meals in the bar and restaurant, and offers free WiFi. Bridge cafe in Poolewe is open until about 4 p.m. -- how about refuelling there after a swim in Poolewe's newly refurbished swimming pool? There are post offices and grocery stores in Poolewe, Aultbea and Laide -- the latter sells petrol and diesel too. Fishing and marine-wildlife-spotting trips operate out of Gairloch (10 miles/16 km to the southwest) and Badachro (beyond Gairloch). Gairloch has more facilities, including a bank A.T.M., public library, museum and 9-hole golf course. Booklets, leaflets and a fairly up-to-date copy of Yellow Pages, the local paper, will be left in the Hub, so you can keep abreast of what's available.
  • Duncan and Kate’s croft is in a stunning location on the western shore of Loch Ewe with views across the loch stretching from the mountains of Letterewe Forest all the way to Suilven in the north. The croft has access directly to the loch shore and it’s a fabulous location for bird and wildlife watching. During our stay, there were Great Northern Divers and wintering Slavonian Grebes on the loch and, if there hadn’t been so much else to do, I could have happily spent the entire time birdwatching from the croft. The sleeping accommodation is in a charming, cosy shepherd hut, with bathroom, kitchen and lounge facilities in a separate hut just a few yards away. Throughout our stay, we enjoyed flawless sunny days and brilliant clear night skies which, as it was the very end of October, meant that it was also very cold outside - there was snow on the mountains and a hard frost at night - but the hut and the hub were always warm and very comfortable. Everything we needed was provided, including breakfast food, beverages, snacks and even a welcome dram or two of whisky! There was also a well-stocked library of books in the hub, and both Duncan and Kate were happy to provide us with lots of helpful information about the area and local wildlife.

  • Duncan’s place was a dream. A place you would not normally stay but glad you did! Amazing views, welcoming family (Duncan, his wife and adorable dog), and a warm/cozy hut. It was a bit of a drive but well worth it. I recommend to any couple or person who want to make lasting and unique memories. Would stay again if we could on our trip! Thanks again!

    Rachel2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is marked very well by their very sweet wind turbine, with the hut in the lovely garden overlooking the Loch. The area is beautiful, the dog is adorable, the beds were warm and comfy. Whisky included. Cheers!

  • This was an awesome place! Right on the water with an amazing view of the moon and milky way at night and sunrise in the morning. Duncan and Kate put a lot of thought into the setup and made sure I felt at home and knew how everything worked. There was even a piece of cake Kate made, which was delicious. They are very sweet and their dog is so cute too. I had a great time talking to them and wish I had more time there

  • We very much enjoyed staying at Seaview (Richard’s place). It is located just above Laide with great views of the sea and especially the northern sky just in case the elusive aurora appear. It is modern, spacious, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The beds are notably comfortable, as are the sofas in the sitting room. We felt warm and secure even though it was February and a freezing storm was blowing outside. Laide has a good local shop and a petrol station. Richard was a very responsive host, answering every question and even supplying Google pluscode and what3words code to pinpoint the house location. Kate and Neil, the local hosts, were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

    Brendan2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Seaview is a lovely cosy and comfortable cottage. It is spacious with a perfect layout. We were very comfortable (the sofa is so comfy), it was warm and had everything we needed. Laide Village is quiet and the shop is small but very good. There are lovely beaches and a nice walk in the woods close by. Richard had left us some toys for our 1 year old which was thoughtful. If you are into mountain biking then this place is great as Richard has tracks marked on OS maps. We went with our surf ski and had fun in the sea, even in February! Note that the front door is stiff so give it a good push to get in.

The flat is situated in the rural crofting settlement of Big Sand around 4.5 miles from the village of Gairloch. The flat is a basement flat and is part of our 3 storey family home. It has just been completely refurbished and now has a fully equiped modern kitchen, kingsized bedroom, shower room and spacious living room with an eating area. The flat can be accessed through the owners main door, however guests have the whole lower floor to themselves. Please note there is no view from the flat.
Our house is a family home with young children, who although are well behaved do come with a bit of noise! We also have 2 gorgeous Jack Russells called Poppy andBaxter, and a cat called Tabby who have been known to wander into the flat if the door is left open. Please be reminded that these pets are our family when staying. The house is also undergoing renovation on the top floor however we will advise guests if we think it will affect their stay.
Big Sand is a small crofting community outside the village of Gairloch. The views are simply stunning, with the Majestic Torridon and the Isle of Skye visible most days. On a very clear day you can see all the way to the Western Isles. Big Sand campsite is a 10 min walk away and is open from March to October. Here you will find a well equiped shop, gift shop, cafe and of course the beach. Gairloch itself has 2 supermarkets, numerous cafes and restaurants, Chinese Takeaway and a great fish and chip shop.

  • We loved our stay at this brilliant cottage. The place was so clean when we arrived - far more than other comparable accommodation I've used in the past! We loved the location, we spent the first morning photographing the beach across the road - couldn't believe our luck! I've stayed in a few cottages in remote parts of the North-West highlands before and all of them have been freezing cold and impossible to heat but as soon as we got in we cranked the heating up and in no time we were totally comfy! The beds and the showers were also great. Honestly thought it was a great wee cottage and would recommend to anyone we looking to stay in the Torridon area.

This is a beautiful residential caravan that has been clad with larch to give it a cabin effect and cool feel. This comes with all bed linen & towels. Fully functional kitchen with gas cooker. It also has a large decking area with outside seating area with amazing views of the Isle of Skye.
This Caravan is situated on a croft at the highest part of Gairloch giving stunning views. Very private location with only one neighbour this also a holiday rental called Bothan Buie.
The Caravan is very close to the village an easy walk down to the pub and a harder one home as is up hill all the way for 1 mile.
  • A fabulous find with amazing views out to the isle of sky. The caravan was immaculately clean with plenty of clean towels. It was late when we arrived and the lights and heating was put on for us, so a lovely thought. We were able to take our small do too and it was perfect for exploring the area. Great gas cooker and full size fridge freezer but little cooking utensils but we managed fine.

The caravan is sited in a lovely, private location with views over Loch Gairloch, and it’s just a short walk from shops and a good pub.

The local sheep might come and say hello!
The Applecross peninsula is simply beautiful, with a stunning view around each twist in the road. Take the mountain overpass which climbs up from Applecross and winds around to Lochcarron, or the coastal road along to Shieldaig - driving, cycling or walking in this area is a delight. There are a number of excellent eating establishments within easy driving reach including the renowned Applecross Inn, which is a 30 min drive away (or a 4 hour walk!). There is a small secluded bay 10mins walk from the house regularly populated by seals or for a larger beach Sand Bay is a 20min drive. Drive through Applecross and park at Ard-dhubh to make a short woodland walk to two secluded 'coral' beaches.

  • Very nice house. Most suitable for 2 people, as there is no door between the rooms. The kitchen equipment is very extensive, mobile data, however, there are only in a small area above the spiral staircase. Unfortunately, we found the detailed tips for many attractions later. All in all, our stay at Fearnmore was very nice.

Kildonan is situated beside with sea with spectacular views across to surrounding mountain ranges. It is a very peaceful and relaxing destination, a place to recharge the batteries. Stunning beaches all around, safe and clean. A wide variety of wildlife sea and on land. Facilities nearby include, restaurants, cafes and tea shops, golf course, swimming pool and leisure facilities, museum. It is a fabulous location in the Highlands of Scotland.
  • This is a fabulous house and very well equipped. I’ve stayed in several Air BnB properties and this is by far the best. Spotlessly clean, well equipped, really good beds and a real home from home. Highly highly recommend.

  • Lovely clean, well equipped and comfortable apartment with spectacular views.

  • This is a great place if you want somewhere quiet and comfortable, with interesting easy walks from the front door. There is an excellent kitchen, very comfy sitting room, good shower and bathroom and the beds were good too. It was all spotlessly clean. We had lovely walks along the road to the beaches at Mellon Udrigle and Gruinard Bay and the footpath to Slaggan Bay is full of interest, passing small lochs, highland cattle, ruined cottages and ending up at a lovely sandy beach. Beautiful Inverewe Gardens are nearby. Recommend the cafe at Aultbea, Oran-na-mara, which does not look very impressive when you drive up but had lovely food and an excellent view of Aultbea. It's an interesting area historically and has many relics from WW2 as Loch Ewe was a naval base then. The Gairloch Museum is very fancy and new with lots of interesting displays and well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of the area. The very well stocked post office and store is just a few minutes walk down the road and the prices are Co-op prices. It also sells petrol.

This is a very peaceful place with great and uninterrupted sea views. It is a former Police House with a small conservatory at the front. The room is ensuite with a double bed and a saga bed. This room overlooks the sea. The house is close to the Aultbea Hotel and bar. A shop and Post Office are also nearby. A paved area with a bench also overlooks the sea. This property is NO SMOKING or Vaping throughout.
The house has a spacious kitchen, dining room and a small conservatory. These spaces are open to be used if not abused. I try to make the house open and relaxing. I have no televisions or radios but I do have Wi-fi.
The Highlands are a safe and interesting place to live. People tend to like their own company while valuing community. The area is of great scenic beauty and there are lots of hills to climb or explore. There are also varied unspoiled beaches. It is on the North Coast 500 Route

Ashcroft is our home, which is located in the traditional crofting Hamlet of Inverasdale. It is 5 miles east of Poolewe on Loch Ewe in the North West Highlands, an area of outstanding natural beauty. With beautiful beaches, sea loch, mountains and the Isle of Ewe. Loch Ewe is the WWII historic home of the Royal Navy and the Russian Arctic Convoys. Ashcroft, is situated at the end of a quiet lane 1/2 mile walk to the sea. Firemore beach, which is a lovely sandy beach is a 2 mile walk.
Ashcroft is perfect for: Visiting Loch Ewe and the Russian Arctic Convoy Monument at Cove & Museum at Aultbea North Coast 500 Route Visiting Inverewe Gardens at Poolewe Cyclists & Bikers Walkers & Hikers (Ashcroft is located at the beginning of the OS route to the Rua Reidh lighthouse, an 8 mile hike) Kayaks, Canoes & sailing dinghies can be launched at Inverasdale slipway Rock climbing on the crags in the area Fly fishing on local Lochs (daily licence purchased at Poolewe Post Office) The two cosy double en-suite rooms at Ashcroft are situated on the ground floor of our house. The rooms are suitable for singles, a couple, 2 adults 2 children or 4 adults Bed linen, towels, duvet and pillows are provided and each room has a private bathroom One double room with shower One double room with bath Tea, fresh coffee, hot chocolate are provided in our kitchen Wifi is provided but is very slow as we are in the Highlands Ashcroft is located at the end of a small quiet lane with the odd tractor passing from the Croft (small farm) next door. We have a horse - Mr Magoo; a dog - Pippi Longstocking; ducks; chickens; cats - Tiger and Jess. Therefore animal lovers are welcome!
Inverasdale is a small traditional crofting Hamlet on the edge of Loch Ewe. It is 4 miles from Poolewe & the A832 Route 500, along a single track road with passing places. You will find restful open space and a traditional way of life. Please note:- The Poolewe Post Office is the nearest shop and the Poolewe Hotel serves food until 8.30 pm booking a table advised, during the Summer months . There is a Chinese takeaway, restaurants and bars serving food, situated in the Village of Gairloch. You are very welcome to bring groceries and cook in our kitchen.
  • The house: Clean, modern bathroom and shower room with underfloor heating. Comfortable bed linen and pillows. Bedroom and bathrooms were spotlessly clean, warm, and with welcoming decor. Bedroom had a bed, lamp, heater, side table, coat hooks, leaflets for local attractions, and a hairdryer. If you’re an animal lover - they have an adorable and friendly dog, some chickens, and a horse. Parking is just outside the house. The host: Guy was very helpful with directing us when we got lost, providing lots of useful local tips and maps, and offering cups of tea on arrival. His daughter was home too and they both gave us a warm welcome. Location: Not far from Gairloch at all. Inverasdale is a good stop if driving the NC500 or taking a coastal walking holiday. The house is in a fairly remote area (like most of the Highlands!) with only a handful of homes on the same road so it’s quiet. If you’re wanting a quick walk to the shop/pub/beach this isn’t the place, but it’s perfect for peace & quiet, and views over the highland. We wouldn’t hesitate to return if ever near the area again.

  • Our evening and night at this place was really great! Linda, Rebecca and Guy are so lovely. At our arrival they offer us some tea or coffee. We spent a very nice evening, learning a lot of things regarding Scotland. They are very interesting and warm people. Don't hesitate to go there, you will be very good received.

  • Guy and his family a very welcoming. After a short drive to the house, we were offered a tea, sat down at their table and talked a lot. Guy and his wife both were very interesting and interested people who could give as further information for our roadtrip. We only needed one of the bedrooms - but both were really fine. They are seperated from the rest of the house with a toilet and a bathtub adjacent to one room and another toilet with a shower adjacent to the other one. Very clean, absolutely nothing to complain, we'd come back any time. Thanks for a wonderful evening, night and morning!

  • Guy and his beautiful wife made a wonderful host, house was super clean and quiet. I enjoyed my stay and I recommend anyone looking for somewhere away from the busy stress of life to visit really lovely. However, please travel during the day and note, mobile signal is very difficult around the area so no phone sat nav otherwise perfect.

  • We stayed with Guy, Belinda and Rebecca for one night. We felt very comfortable. All three are super nice and helpful. The rooms are sparkling clean and equipped with private bathroom. Guy gave us a great advice about our next route. Always my pleasure!

  • Staying at Guy's place was such a treat! His whole family is so friendly, hospitable and accommodating that we felt at home instantly! The room and private area is so comfortable and we were impressed by their DVD collection. They were so informative, letting us know what was in the area and what was worth checking out, and we quite enjoyed chatting with them about all sorts of things. We would highly recommend staying at Guy's charming home to anyone staying in the area!

This modern and comfortable chalet is in the North West Highland village of Achiltibuie. With its large picture windows and decked terrace it is a perfect spot to relax and unwind. The views over the Summer Isles and the mountains are stunning as are the dramatic sunsets and starry night skies. There is a bright and airy open plan living area, two bedrooms a shower room and of course wi-fi. The perfect base for exploring, walking, climbing, kayaking, fishing and so much more.
The local crofting and fishing community has a rich history and was a gaelic speaking area until recent times. It is now a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve, ideal for hill walkers and nature lovers. The chalet is in easy walking distance of The Piping School Café, Local Artists Gallery, Community Hall and the Summer Isles Hotel.
  • The cabin is cosy and comfortable and the location is hard to beat. Una is a great host and was helpful with local knowledge including the visit at the village hall by the fish van! The summer isles hotel is excellent for fine dining or a bar meal and the Am Fuaran Bar at Althandu is much better than either the outside or the inside decor suggests and definitely worth a visit. Brilliant seafood platter. Wherever you eat, the seafood is fresh and local.

    Ben2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights at Una's place. The location is absolutely stunning (can't beat those views!). The accommodation was also super cosy for that time of year. Una was very responsive and accommodating. We would definitely recommend for anybody in search of a special place to stay in that area.

    Isabelle2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The chalet is positioned in the most perfect place with incredibly and far reaching views. The large windows mean that whatever the weather you can appreciate where you are. The chalet is compact, clean, comfortable and provides all the facilities you need.

  • We just stayed for four nights in the chalet and loved it. Everything you need and feels homely and warm, with the most fantastic views. We did walks nearby (saw ptarmigan), took our kayaks out on a nearby loch, and saw deer both in the area and also just beneath the chalet on the edge of the loch. The chalet was the perfect base. Would very highly recommend!

The hut is located next to the Old Store in the small hamlet of Badachro. The property is only 40 metres from the sea front and is surrounded by incredible scenery. The hut has a very comfortable double bed, private entrance, parking space and access to its own private bathroom located next to the hut in the main house. The hut has heating and facilities for making tea and coffee.
The hut is next to the Old Village Store which is now my house. The hut has been built locally and where possible materials have been up-cycled - for example; the stained glass and oak windows, and the door mechanism. The entrance is a stable door, there are two steps up into the spacious hut which has a comfortable double bed and a chair. The bathroom is in the main house, entered through the back door only a couple of metres away from the hut, and is for the sole use of guests. There is also a patio area with a bench which looks over the garden. The patio area and the hut are very private, and you have your own car parking space and entrance gate.
Badachro is one of Scotland’s hidden gems, on the North Coast 500. Situated in a stunning bay, opposite the town of Gairloch, the village has a fantastic pub the Badachro Inn which serves lunches and dinners. There are fantastic walks and numerous water sport activities as well as tours on the water and whale watching etc.. There is a local crafts and gift shop, Latitude 57, and local Gin Distillery. There are several world class beaches in the area and the town of Gairloch is a short drive away.
  • We absolutely loved this air BnB. So much lovelier than the pictures do justice. We were worried about the temperature, but the heater kept us perfectly warm.

  • While we were only in town for one night, it was a pleasure to stay at Liza’s Shepherds Hut! A lovely little space in a gorgeous spot, Liza was super friendly and welcoming and gave a great recommendation for Badachro Inn just down the road, which is a lovely pub with friendly service and nice meals. All in all we were very happy here, albeit for a very short while.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely hut. It was cozy and warm, and the location was absolutely perfect for our trip to explore the NC500. Liza was a great host, answered all our questions and provided very clear instructions to get to the place. Hoping to go back soon!

    Myriam2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely wee bolt hole away from the cares of the world. Snug and warm with an excellent bath in the main house after a day’s hiking. Liza was a kind host but not intrusive and let me have the time to myself, for which I was grateful.

    Ilona2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly, I never met Lisa or got to stay in her cottage due to car problems in route. However, she went above and beyond to assist with my last minute cancellation and was very gracious. I look forward to another trip to Skye soon and staying in her cottage.

    Rick2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
