Rhonda was extremely hospitable and thoughtful, she communicated throughout the day of our arrival, spent quality time ensuring it was ready, and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I forgot to mention that this was a same day booking. Simply fantastic service. When she says that it is an oasis she means it. The pool, the fire pit, and outdoor environment is absolutely one-of-a-kind. The quarters were nice, while a little cramped for 9 guests, most of them spent their time outside because who wouldn't here, so it wasn't an issue. On our final morning she even made homemade waffles, and brought them out to the pool. I highly recommend this to anyone, and would gladly stay again. Thanks for the wonderful time!

This was a great oasis to just relax and have family time. The swimming pool was so much fun for toddlers and teens. It's also conveniently close to Colfax for groceries, fastfood and sit down restaurants.

My family and I gathered at Portia's house to be close to SFL for a Triathalon I competed in. It was a great location! I was minutes from the lake and we all had a great time. There's plenty of space to lounge and the back deck is incredible. Portia has decorated the home in Pinterest chic style and it is so cute! I left inspired to finish some projects at my own home. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was clean and comfortable. I'd defiantly stay there again. One note: this house is highly fragranced and not recommended for people with chemical/fragrance allergies.

Portia's cabin in Nevada City is WONDERFUL! It is comfortable, stylish, user-friendly, well-stocked, and well-located. The 5 minute drive to the lake is a breeze and the view from the quiet deck is just trees, trees, trees. Portia was a great host, generous with her house and her tips and suggestions. We have a family of 5, plus a dog, and we were all so comfortable. Part of me wants to keep knowledge of this gem of a place all to myself, but it--and Portia--are too good to not share about. We will definitely be back!

This is a GLORIOUS haven in the woods! The house is set into the forest, with views of the tree canopy stretching out into the mountains. I loved settling onto the comfy deck couch to watch the squirrels and listen to the sound of the birds through the rustling leaves. Portia has appointed the house with beautiful wood furniture, charming art and whimsical touches. When my family visited, we enjoyed playing Scrabble and other games stowed in a bin for guests. The house itself is so quaint and serene, I hardly wanted to leave! But I also loved hiking along the Cascade Canal trail a ten-minute drive away (flat, shaded and enchanting trail running for 4.5 miles), visiting historic downtown Nevada City about 15 minutes away and swimming in Scotts Flat Lake about five minutes away. The Yuba River is a little farther, about 45 minutes to access points, but worth the drive. Swimming in its green waters is a highlight of my life! Nevada City and Grass Valley are lined with craftsman houses and old brick buildings from the Gold Rush Era. They are the ideal of small town America, with city culture. You'll find gourmet and organic restaurants, wine bars, art galleries and theatre houses, along with saloons and old mines to explore. I went for a personal writing and meditation retreat. The space was perfect for that. But it's big enough for five and would make a lovely vacation base for family or friends. Portia is extremely responsive! Although she doesn't live on the property, she replies immediately to questions or requests. Portia represents Airbnb and the sharing economy is its best light. I highly recommend this gem of a cabin for a forest getaway!

My family just finished a one month stay at Portia's beautiful home in the woods. We found the Airbnb slogan "we rented a house and found a home" to be our exact experience. Portia was an excellent communicator, and a gracious hostess who made us feel welcome and looked after during our visit. The house is located about 15 minutes from Nevada City, and close to Scotts Flat Reservoir. We found it to be the perfect location as we were wanting a quiet location that was a short driving distance to a small town. There are hiking trails within a short drive, and the lake is about two miles away. We found the locals to be friendly and excited to share tips and activities they thought we should know of. The house had everything we could have wanted and felt calm, which gave us the ability to relax. The large deck was a joy, and allowed us to comfortably sit outside and enjoy nature. More than once three deer were be on the property, and would graze while we were sitting outside.. We absolutely loved our stay at Portia's! We had to come to NC for a wedding and we had never been before. Portia's is close enough to town to be convenient and enjoy the local atmosphere but secluded enough to enjoy some much needed peace and quiet. The house is adorable and perfectly decorated, we want her to come decorate our condo in Portland! The deck is incredible, perfect for drinking coffee and listening to birds in the morning and watching the stars at night. Portia was so sweet and easy to communicate with, and had a ton of suggestions of what we could do in NC, I just wish we had more time to explore her recommendations. The house had every accommodation I could think to ask for, it felt like we could be in our own home! We've already started discussing when we could come stay again next summer! We can't wait!

This place is a great little spot, not far from the shops in old Nevada City or the shores of the huge nearby reservoir. The kitchen is nicely stocked with the basic tools to prep, cook and eat a nice meal at the table for 6. Or, you can choose to eat on the outside deck facing the forest. I took 3 of my friends up with me for the weekend and the place was just the right size for us to eat, play some card games and watch Netflix on the large flat screen in the living area. It's great that there is decent wifi as well. Portia was very communicative leading up to our stay and responded to any questions I had about the place while there. Be aware that there is only one large bed in the place. The rest are a mix of bunk beds and a futon, if I recall correctly. We made it work. Also, were told the reservoir was 5 minutes down the road from us. We definitely could see that it was close, but we wanted to rent a couple paddle boards so we had to drive 25 minutes to the other side. Still well worth it. Overall, the drive up was very easy, about an hour and a half past Sacramento and just a tad bit on the windy road in the hills. We'd definitely stay again. It was quite hot when we were there. 10 degrees cooler would have made all the difference and allowed us to relax on the deck instead of retreat indoors to the relief of the AC. Thanks Portia.

Portia's place has such a beautiful scenery all around, from the moment you go down the steps feels like your little hideaway. It's very quiet and peaceful place, spacious and practical. We had fun outside in the porch with the fire pit and be amongst friends & family. We had a great time! Overall we definitely hope to return and stay longer than we did. Portia is definitely a great host quick to respond, accommodating and made our experience pleasant.

The Flying Pig Ranch was a great deal and we had an excellent time during our stay. Nita and Brian are gracious hosts and their dogs made sure our own pup enjoyed his stay as well. The property provided plenty of natural tranquility, while being a quick car ride to many natural and manmade attractions.

Peaceful cabin with a beautiful drive to Nevada City or an outdoor adventure in the mountains or on a river or lake. Large gated and fenced in area is ideal for dogs to run and play.

We had a great stay at Nita's. The place was easy to find and clean. Nita was very helpful with the accommodations. I only wish we were able to stay longer.

Flying Pig Ranch is a hidden gem! This place is incredible and we are so happy to have had the opportunity to stay here for our whole trip. This retreat has everything you need & the attention to detail was incredible. Nita & Brian are wonderful hosts and so are their fur babies. We were blessed to have our dog with us and he loved playing and running around, exploring with Zelda & Gunther.

Nita and Brian (and their dogs Gunther and Zelda) were terrific hosts. They were very friendly, considerate, and helpful during my stay. They kept the lines of communication open and prompt before I arrived, which was much appreciated. Their guest house and ranch is definitely a nice and peaceful place to visit, not far from Auburn or Yuba River. I would consider returning again to stay on future trips.

We loved our stay at the Flying Pig! Nita and Ross were super friendly and hospitable. We enjoyed hanging out with them and their two friendly dogs. The cabin is brand new! Totally clean and cozy and Nita had the air conditioner on for us before we arrived, which was super thoughtful. Everything was clearly marked, and communication was timely and clear. Grass Valley is such a charming rural town with a lot of beautiful farms... a very peaceful place to rest for us after we had braved the American South Fork River that day. Would definitely return!

Nota and Brian are excellent house guests, they are very friendly and helpful and treat you like family. The cabin is so cozy and nice, perfect for relaxing, the views are incredible and the ride there an adventure. I recommend anybody to stay with Nita, Brian's, Gunther and Zelda.

We would describe our stay at Jeff and Kerry's perfect! Everything was Very clean and organized . Jeff was probably the most excited and friendly person we have ever met! I enjoyed my stay at John and Audrey's downstairs spare room with private entrance. The sliding door looks out on a patio, garden beds, fire pit Adirondack chairs, and then the forest. Very private and serene. The well lit sitting room was furnished with stereo, tv, couch, chair, refrigerator, sink and coffee maker. Quite a selection of books also, many on baseball and travel. The bed was super comfortable. Nice bathroom and shower. John and Audrey are very friendly, as are their two dogs. Great location for exploring Nevada City. Recommended.

This beautiful setting was just 5 minutes out of town ~ quiet, lush forested surroundings, with a lovely serene home-away-from-home to relax in. Audry and John gave us easy directions, and had every amenity waiting for us for our one night stay with them. They were friendly and welcoming, and we wished we could have stayed longer! We definitely will book with them again when in the area.

Audry's Place is a beautiful setting in the woods. The rooms were clean and comfortable with great towels and linens along with treats in a handy little kitchen. We enjoyed ourselves and hope to return to this lovely spot!

Tamara was so helpful when it came to planning our trip. She is very knowledgeable about the area and especially the local wineries. She made our trip very special by providing a homemade breakfast from her garden. The cottage was so peaceful and newly remodeled. The private deck was wonderful to sit and read and listen to the birds. The sunsets are beautiful and so is the property. We hope to come back again soon!

Tamara'a place provided a great escape from city life set right amongst the trees in a really beautiful area. We felt like part of the forest as we enjoyed breakfast on the deck. Also, be sure to check out some of the great river spots nearby.

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage in woods immensely. Loved that check-in was super easy and that our hosts gave us privacy but were there if we needed anything. This place is incredible!! Great Value! Unbelievable Host and Hostess! Clean! Accurate Desciption and absolute best location ever!! From the moment you arrive everything is so well marked from the entry of their property to the parking spot. There's even Signs for outdoor shower (which is awesome btw!).Upon entry the place is cute as can be. Very thoughtfully added blankets to sit outside with! Kitchen has recycle garbage container AND compost container. Lots of supplies in bathroom and kitchen. My favorite: they made available a wine list for purchase! Whenever i had a question or needed them - Tamara or Ramon were right there. You must stay here! You wont be sorry!! Just far enough from town to be country-yet close enough to gas,grocery etc.

We stayed two nights in September to visit the area. The description and photos of the studio were accurate. It was lovely and small. We were happy that we could bring our dog with us. We love the rural and hidden gems of the Gold Country, and this was one of them. The hosts welcome you to enjoy their property and we walked the dog and explored some of the trails, enjoyed the nature and mining artifacts/history that were around the property. It is really dark at night so star gazing is awesome here. The sunsets were nice as well. Fortunately the weather was on our side as it was not hot and had cool evenings, as there is no air conditioning in this unit. Another note that stands out is the drive to the property. It is a steep and winding mountain road once you leave Placerville. We are used to driving on such roads but this one commands respect, caution and the drivers full attention. We always felt relief when we completed it, and did not like driving it in the dark. We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality and would stay here again.

Ken and Andee really go above and beyond. They fed us breakfast both mornings we were there and were acomidating to all dietary needs. Andee is an amazing cook! They were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. I rented the bunk house with four friends for my birthday and they even got me a cake! Seriously a great experience. All the animals were awesome too! This was truely a one of a kind experience I would highly recommend! Without a doubt, best hosts on air bnb!

Our second trip to the Frostbite BunkHouse. Our kids loved the Martinelli's on ice and petting all the horses/dogs/cows and feeding them carrots from the garden. We tried out the massive spa. A comfortable 90 degrees and the kids loved playing in the artificial current. We had to waddle away from the breakfast table. Too much good home made food. Waffles, bacon, eggs, yogurt and homemade zuchini muffins and banana bread and fruit. Best air bnb experience ever!

We had an amazing time at Ken and Andee's place. My wife and I stayed in the Bunkhouse with our 5 children and we all loved it. Ken and Andee were such nice hosts - warm, friendly and flexible. Then welcomed us and really made an effort with the children, teaching them about the animals and even letting them dig out potatoes, carrots, zucchini and pick up eggs from their 21 chickens! Andee then used some of the eggs and vegetables to made us breakfast - such a good experience for the kids. We felt like Ken and Andee treated us like family and went well above and beyond what might usually be expected. I'm intolerant to gluten and Andee went to the trouble of providing plenty of gluten free breakfast options. The bunkhouse is great - cosy and with everything we needed to hand. It's nicely built and decorated with a saddle, rocking horse and nice children's books and toys. It's right there by the animals, so we would often be greeted by Luke the horse first thing in the morning. The property, while feeling very rural, is actually easily accessible by good roads, so were were able to get around easily. Our hosts added some nice touches to the experience such as two chilled bottles of Martinellis waiting in the bunkhouse on our arrival and a hand-written chalkboard sign on the door welcoming all of our family members by name. I couldn't recommend Ken and Andee and their property highly enough and we will definitely return.

If you like animals and a beautiful setting, this is paradise! You will live in the midst of horses, cows, chickens and dogs. Ken and Andee are incredible hosts, spoiling guests with delicious breakfasts and making sure you have a memorable experience. Our kids loved them as well and even spend a few hours under their supervision (thanks!!!). The place is very nice and we are planning to come back!

Our Hosts, Ken and Andee were amazing. Kind and warm and welcoming. We rented one room and bunkhouse. The wicker room was comfortable and charming while the bunkhouse was like a small cottage, complete with a fireplace and bath with thoughtful touches like a keurig stocked with hot chocolate and Martinelli's on ice. The friendly farm animals and dogs and lively stories at breakfast make this better than a bed and breakfast. ps Breakfast was a feast of fresh quiche, juice and coffee and yogurt and fresh fruits and homemade banana bread. If you're only sleeping here then you're missing out on half the fun!

I booked Ken & Andee's for a group of 8 for my 29th Birthday and I have to say it was one for the books! Picture waking up to the birds chirping, horses trouting around outside, coffee brewing and the smell of a delicious breakfast being prepared ( yummm). Truly was a memorable experience and if I could give them a million stars, I would. So happy that I choose this place and I highly recommend staying here, we will 100 percent be back in the near future. We will miss Ken, Andee and all the animals that we fell in love with :) Thanks again!!

If you need to escape civilization,this is the perfect time spot. Outdoor sauna, which I could not use because of my gimpy leg. Host are very pleasant and laid back.

Karen was the perfect host, perfect wouldn't even describe how amazing our stay was at her hidden gem in the woods. I didn't want to write a review because I'd love to keep this place my own little secret getaway BUT its so beautiful more people need to escape to this place! The property is well kept and maintained. The HUT was a dream come true. We felt like we where home and it was so comfortable. Would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it.

What a beautiful, tranquil, comfortable getaway! Karen was an absolute gem of a host. You can feel her wholesome good nature, attention to detail, relaxed environment from start to finish. The cozy space was well equipped with everything one would need. From all your coffee fixings to towels, cooking options, the finest organic soaps etc. The unit was squeaky clean, private & relaxing. We didn't get to utilize the charming sauna but looking forward to that next visit. Karen advised us that bear river is about a mile away down the street from the property. This is a convenient fun activity for families, couples or singles. I can't say enough about Karen! She has a way of making you feel at home yet giving as much privacy as desired. At the same time she was there for our every question or need. 10 stars for the host and tranquil getaway.

So happy I was able to book this place and coordinate w/ Karen the same day that I needed it. Instead of getting a normal hotel, I surprised my boyfriend w/ a trip into the wooded foothills and it was 100% perfect for us. Karen and Jordan showed us how to access the Bear River for a quick walk and swim, then we had a wonderful private suite-- one of the best Airbnb's I've been in. Everything was clean, creative, and had a personal touch. Good energy on the property, we just wish we'd had time in the morning to walk around the garden and find the fresh drinking fountains. The highlight of a vagabonding weekend through the foothills and high country of the Sierra Nevada! A place to fall in love with. In a twist of fortune we stumbled across the fairy tale abode of Karen and Jeremy's when deciding over dinner in Nevada City not to head back home down the hill but to try a last minute AirBnB search for a place to stay on the way to the high mountains. We arrived long after dark to a beautifully dark and silent place, with a few pathway lights twinkling their way through the seemingly enchanted forest. Karen and Jeremy made us feel home immediately. The studio was clean, beds comfy, bathroom and kitchen nicely appointed. We are outdoor people and enjoyed the option to sleep with screened windows and door wide open (we could have left them closed). In the morning we were treated to a wonderfully delicious breakfast. Our hosts made themselves available for engaging conversation and helped us pick a beautiful spot for a high country day hike.

We would have really enjoyed this enchanting, fairytale cottage in the woods if we had been better prepared for what was in store... I read about a train in a few reviews, I just did not understand how disruptive it would be. Had I known, and felt OK with this, I would have brought ear plugs! I was also really excited to see a frisbee golf course on the property. Unfortunately, there were far too many mad made obstacles blocking many of the baskets. I also felt uneasy walking around parts of the property due to the layout, RVs and smaller cabins. I was told nobody was around yet still had a kind of strange feeling walking around some areas. Besides these issues, we found Suzan to be a very welcoming hostess.

Suzan was the most gracious host we have encountered. She greeted us upon arrival and gave us a tour, telling us where everything was and saying she would be available for anything we might need. It had snowed the previous night and the road was a bit difficult to navigate in our sedan, so Suzan offered to have her son work down the road to a more manageable level. She could not have been more accommodating. Her home was beautifully decorated for the winter season, the house was clean, had just about everything one would need, with wifi, modern appliances and beautifully decorated with pieces from local craftsmen and Suzan's own family. The grounds house a full size barn, a fire pit, and a clearing large enough for bonfires with tall pines all around. The outside was decorated with tiny, white fairly lights that play into the theme of the name. Close to the charming town of Dutch flats, this is the perfect place to travel when you want a bit of seclusion, but want to be close to Truckee, Tahoe City, or Sugarbowl resort. We will absolutely be back!

Very fun cottage, for family or couple a getaway and having a good time there, the cottage looks small from outside but inside you will get everything you need with a full kitchen and dining area, a living room, full bathroom with jacuzzi, one master room with lot of space plus an extra upper room with 2 beds, all in a small rural cottage but with everything you need outside from your city or urban home, very happy with my stay.

We stayed at Suzan's place for 4 nights and it was great! Suzan was very communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. The house itself is setback in a nice wooded area. It has a nice master bedroom and a loft with a bed that is great for 2 couples, a small family or just a small group of friends. The kitchen is fully stocked and very clean. Suzan lives on site in her own cabin but left us to ourselves unless we needed something which was really nice. We went to squaw valley for 2 of the days we were there. We left at 7:30am and was on the mountain by 8:15am so even though it's not in Tahoe proper it was still close enough to still get good round of snowboarding in. Additionally the last day we were there some weather was pushing through but because we were on the west side of the peak we didn't have to deal with the traffic and slowdowns that normally happens over the peak. Nice cabin on my way from Bay Area to soda springs ski resort. Suzan stayed very late to greet us. My kids and I walked around in the woods and it was great!

These folks are great and the place is amazing. For anyone looking to get away and enjoy nature and the outdoors, this place is a must!

This place freaking rules and I don't really even want to get into how nice of a place this is to stay at because then you will want to stay there and I will be unable to get a reservation. But in short, it's private, romantic, close to the american river and lake tahoe, kinda like camping but easier and Michael is a very sweet and affable man. The dog, "Roo", is cool too.

This is a great place to stay for white water rafting and relaxing in the gold country,especially in the shoulder season when it isn't too hot or rainy. Michael and Claudia are nice, friendly folks. The stars at night were great!

This spot is absolutely lovely! They have covered every detail of need. Their hospitality exceeded anything we could have hoped for and the splendor of this tidy property is most impressive. Claudia was gone tending to her ill mother and Michael is just as sweet, lovely and evolved a human as one would hope to meet. Can't wait to return!

The Rambler's Roost is a warm, welcoming, beautiful place to stay. We arrived road-weary and in need of a place to rest and work for a week. All of our needs were met and beyond. The cottage is cute, and functional, and clearly a lot of love and thought have been put into it's creation. Besides Chris and Gina (and Piper, the fuzzy and friendly dog) being the most wonderful and amazing hosts who were considerate, aware, and exceptionally supportive of our needs, we left feeling like we had made new friends which is a true blessing in this life. Highly recommended. We could not have imagined a better place, or better people to stay with!

If you want a quiet, cozy space to stay while you're in Auburn, you should stay here! It is conveniently located close to I-80 and downtown, but is still quiet and feels remote. The hosts are friendly and have provided lots of nice extras like coffee, beer & wine. They live in the adjacent house on the property, so are there if you need anything. The space is very comfy and there is a nice deck/patio that is secluded right off of the bedroom. It is a great place to kick back & relax or for a romantic getaway.

The roost was super clean, comfortable, well stocked, and conveniently close to old town auburn. All in all we had a very restful stay and would highly recommend visitors to stay here when visiting auburn!

One of the cutest little cottages I've ever seen, very well kept with a plethora of thoughtful ammeneties.

Gina's place is nice and cozy. It's tiny but has everything one can need and Gina was very understanding about our late check in, it took us much longer than we planned to get there. The only downside was the ceiling window that let the morning light in, although it was charming.

Really clean little cottage with a cabin feel. Quite spacious, really. Large bathroom. Welcomed with snacks and wine! Great stay and very reasonably priced.

I cannot say enough great things about the Ramblers Roost. It was quiet, tidy and was equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing trip to Auburn. Super convenient location, just a few minutes drive to downtown but still had a vey private and rural feel. Our hosts were amazing! They offered up a few recommendations of local goings on and sites to see. I ended up leaving some clothing behind and they were ultra quick to send me a message to come pick it up. We would definitely come back and stay again.

Had an amazing stay in Colfax, Suzanne is such a caring host and made my stay extremely comfortable. The heating works perfectly, kept us cozy while it was freezing outside. It's an easy drive to a couple small ski resorts and a lot of hiking trails. Would definitely stay here again, was one of the best vacations I've had.

Suzanne and Ed were wonderful hosts. The cottage was overstuffed with all the amenities you would need and it was immaculate. The fire pit was all made up for a cozy marshmallow roast and the ingredients for s'mores left out. We didn't do that, left it for Ed and Suzanne to enjoy! The bed and bedding were very comfortable, romantic. Sitting by the pond birdwatching was peaceful. It was nice to have the wifi to plan the next leg of our trip...

My fiance and I really needed a nice getaway from urban life, and stumbled upon this sweet little gem of a cottage. The cottage is nicely decorated, and has an elegant yet rustic charm with an airy atmosphere. The bed a VERY comfortable, and accent lighting sets the mood for just what we needed: relaxation. The property is nicely kept, with flower beds and beautiful trees, the pond offers a place to just simply space out (meditate, contemplate, however you wish to call it). We were there on some very hot days. The pool was awesome, and there is a river, not far away where we found a nice, private place to bask in the sun and get into the river to cool off. We used the BBQ one evening, and sat outside watching the chickens run around while we ate. The cottage has plenty of fans and an air conditioner for hot days, though the night time temperatures were perfect, no need for the AC for sleeping. Suzanne is a wonderful host, super friendly, and very helpful. I highly recommend this place for a valuable getaway. Thanks for having us!

The hostesses, Suz and her husband Ed, warmly greeted us upon our arrival with their gentle black lab Buddy. The cottage is cozy, yet roomy with a sitting area and close to a full kitchen. Everything we needed was handy and new! Dishes, towels, coffee, tea, condiments and a wonderful downy queen size bed (and the wifi was easy and quick). The cottage is totally private. The only structure in site is a rustic barn with twinkle lights hung in a PEACE sign. The pond and surrounding trees on the property are full of wild life. We came to Colfax looking for new birds and happily found more than 30 species right outside the cottage. The cottage on the farm is perfectly located for day trips to the Lake Tahoe area, antiquing in the Auburn area or just hanging out under the oak tree watching life on the pond outside the cottage.....We will definitely be going back! Thank You Suz and Ed, our stay was wonderful.

This place was amazing, the cottage itself is adorable and cozy!! The pond was also a wonderful place to spend some quiet time at, day or night since the hosts were very thoughtful in strategically placing lights around the property, the dock included! Suzanne and Ed provided much in the kitchenette of the cottage and even a complimentary wine bottle after our long drive! They gave us a tour and checked in twice to make sure we had everything we needed (and they really leave the whole property open to your enjoyment for whatever need). The location is close to Tahoe, Donner lake/museum, Nevada City (do not miss seeing this town! Try to catch the farmers market also!), And Auburn is a great place to stop for supplies and walk around. Overall an amazing experience and place, I definitely recommend this place!

The cottage is one of the best Airbnb's I've stayed at! There was wonderful communication and the most adorable decor. Everything we could have possibly needed was in the house, easy to find and we took a great hike just a few miles away suggested in the cottage guidebook. We were sad to only spend one night here.

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage, and Suzanne and Ed were fantastic hosts! The yard was beautiful and there were lots of nice places to relax or eat dinner outside. We particularly enjoyed the watching the chickens wander around the garden and we were amazed and delighted to find out that the barn is a puzzle-making workshop! We were on a limited budget so we cooked dinner every night, and the kitchen was so well stocked that we were able to cook just about anything I normally cook at home. All of the kitchen equipment and other appliances in the cottage worked well and were in good condition, and I was even able to make biscuits and a pie in the toaster oven! The area was beautiful and we had fun exploring nearby museums and hiking trails on the weekends. Suzanne and Ed were great hosts, and when there was a heatwave this summer they went out of their way to help us stay cool by installing an air conditioner. There was also a pool! Thank you so much!!

We had a wonderful time at prefab green glass house. Checking in was incredibly easy. We loved opening the glass doors onto the deck, it made the space feel so much larger and more open. The view is beautiful - tall trees and the lake. We loved canoeing (and capsizing). It felt very private and spacious.

We had a fantastic stay. The cabin is just amazing, a perfect retreat in the woods. Bring enough food for your entire stay, you don't want to leave the place for a even second while you're there. And cooking with all windows and doors open in the middle of a forest, breakfasts on that patio, just perfect.

This place is fantastic. Tod / Debbie have really created the perfect home for relaxing and exploring. The stay couldn't have been better and Debbie / Tod made sure of it! Hope to be back!

The house: Their home is beautiful and simple. Opening the wall of glass doors in the living room was fun and really transforms the space. My boyfriend and I ended up spending the day hanging out on deck reading in the sun. It was very relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped. We cooked numerous meals throughout our stay and the only thing we didn't find was a whisk. The fridge is mini but was able to fit all of our food. The bathroom door isn't floor-to-ceiling so you can hear into the bathroom. It didn't bother us but just FYI. Also, half of the deck (including the stairway to the trail) isn't currently accessible so getting to the trail was a little tricky. Walk down the driveway and you should be able to access the trail. Or you can go under the rain-catcher. The property: Their land is beautiful. It's nestled behind a campground/cabin area. You go up a long driveway to reach the home so you can't see other properties from the house. We did see deer and wild turkey which was awesome. Being there at sunset is pretty surreal. We arrived at nighttime and it does not do the place justice. Arrive before dark if you can. The lake: Due to soil erosion from the rains, the lake is very muddy and difficult to access. We were not able to get the canoe down into the water due to the steep embankment. This most likely won't be as much of an issue during the summer when the water recedes and the sediment settles. If you visit when the lake isn't in good condition, I recommend going to the rivers in Auburn. They were beautiful and only a 20 minute drive away. The setting: Noise was not an issue for us in March. There were only two or three boats on the water the whole weekend. We could hear a train in the distance once or twice but that was it. The property was very quiet and peaceful. The "Off the grid" experience: I was a little nervous about staying off the grid but the house is pretty much self-maintaining. We didn't have to do anything except make sure to conserve our energy and water usage. It was an interesting experience and has completely changed my perspective on sustainable living. I pay more attention when I use water in my own house now. Overall, I think this house would definitely be worth the cost during the summer when you have access to the lake. It seems slightly overpriced for the off-season. We still enjoyed our stay and left feeling refreshed and relaxed. Thank you!

This is a calm and relaxing place. The space is perfect for two people and I imagine the deck is great for entertaining. We were lucky to have some warm days for early April and enjoyed a BBQ each night. Having the lake so close was great, but since it was a warm weekend, there were lots of boats on the water bloasting music. We didn't realise how much the sound would carry and cut through the quiet. It's an easy drive to Grass Valley and local stores. The kitchen has everything you need but could use an update in the near future. While being off the grid, everything was easy to use and without hassle. Overall, it was a nice and relaxing trip.

This house was wonderful to stay in. Such great design and almost all of the amenities you could hope for. It uses a backup generator as a power source which sounded intimidating but was really easy to use and already set up properly for us to simply turn a key and press a button when it was necessary. Tod is very helpful and easy to get in touch with if you have any questions or need assistance with anything. Definitely would recommend this home to anyone who wants a beautiful, secluded in nature, getaway!

A comfortable, modern getaway! Next time we'll have to stay longer. Everything we needed for a cozy retreat, and we appreciated how everything was fenced in (including a dog run) for our mutt to roam outside freely without wandering. The furthest we strayed was the lovely little walk down to the reservoir, but the surrounding area was very beautiful and there was plenty to do.

I cannot recommend this place enough. I was lucky enough to get the last remaining free weekend in September, and WOW completely worth it! We will definitely be back! Thank you!

We absolutely loved the Beautiful Cabin in the Woods! We were looking for a cute cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway, and this was perfect. We didn't want to leave! Janet was very friendly, welcoming, responsive, and accommodating. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, with lots of windows (it gets more light than we expected from the photos), and a gorgeous bathroom. There were even fresh flowers from the garden on the dining table. The location is great because it's secluded in the woods yet not far from nice hiking options or Nevada City or Grass Valley. Definitely recommended!

This is the second time I have stayed here, this time I brought my husband. We love the location and proximity close to shopping and the highway. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the peacefulness of the area.

Both the cabin and the location are amazing. It's a very peaceful place and we really enjoyed our weekend getaway. Everything was in order, clean, and comfortable. Janet accommodated our late arrival, and also offered flexibility with departure time. We will definitely consider this unique place as our first choice next time we travel in the area.

Janet was not in town when we arrived however, she communicated clearly with us and we felt we could ask her for anything we needed. We loved the privacy and quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed the hot tub and pool and overall had a wonderful stay. The loft was a little hot and the ladder is not for children or the elderly.

This little cabin exceeded my expectations in every way. I was looking for a quiet getaway near some great hikes and quaint little towns, and I got exactly that and way more. Janet was a great host and made sure I had everything I needed, and the cabin was already stocked with everything anyone would need. This property is definitely worth it, and it looks even better than the photos. If you want a quiet place with a rustic/woodsy feel, yet completely new and modern, I'd recommend this property.

Janet was warm and welcoming from the start. I arrived to the cabin to find a fresh vase of flowers followed by a bottle of wine at my door. The cabin was clean and well stocked with any essentials I might need. Location wise, it is in close proximity to shopping and highway access. The cabin allowed for a perfect, quiet, visit with family and allowed me to cook a few home cooked meals.....just what I was looking for. I hope to return!

Janet made us feel extremely welcome, and we loved the sense of peace and tranquility on her magical land. The kitchen is tiny, but we managed to make some basic meals, and really enjoyed the super comfortable couches and entertainment system. The bathroom is beautiful, and the interior of the cabin thoughtfully done and pleasantly neutral. Janet lives in her house a little ways away, and was available for anything we needed, but we had all the privacy we needed in the cabin. Highly recommended.

Susan is such a thoughtful goddess hostess. She was so kind to me and my puppies. I highly recommend anyone seeking a pleasant, comfortable home with wonderful views to stay at her beautiful home.

Susan is a great host. The accommodations were as described. I stayed in the cabin and there is a shared living room space and shared restroom in the main house. Susan has a nice food garden and a small bunch of chickens and ducks to keep you company as well. The location is conveniently located to the Auburn area. I was very satisfied with my stay, I only wish my schedule would have allowed more time so just relax and unwind, as Susan's place would be perfect for that.

Joanna's cabin is a quaint little place equipped with a full bath and adequately stocked kitchen. There is plenty of privacy as it is situated a little further from the main house and surrounded by tall trees. The size is perfect for two people who don't mind sharing a bed in a cozy space. The location worked out wonderfully well. It is a short walk to downtown filled with cute shops and restaurants. We also found nearby hiking trails and were able to get around without having to drive much. Overall, we had a lovely time. I highly recommend staying at Joanna's!

I recently stayed in Joanna's airbnb and I must say I will definitely be back in the future. Joanna was very accommodating from the moment I showed up. The property is absolutely beautiful and well maintained I relaxed in my hammock one afternoon while reading one of Joanna's books (she has the quite the collection in the cabin). The cabin is very spacious and well equipped with anything you might need to enjoy your stay. I must say the bed was a very pleasant surprise It is so comfortable.

Great place to stay. Joanna really goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and at home. The fridge was stocked with fresh eggs and orange juice. A bottle of wine was there on our arrival. Beautiful house, great location.

Joanna's place was relaxing and chill! Her Dog Zimmerman was a doll, the property is nicely wooded but still sunny and the 1 mile walk into town is very nice.
