Fabulous location, house, host, garden just perfect for a short family holiday to get our daughters,to fall in love with Portugal as we have

A beautiful house, in a fantastic location - ideal for those who want some peace and quiet but not total isolation. A good base for visiting places like Tomar and Coimbra. We particularly enjoyed swimming in the river from the nearby jetty.

We stayed at Liz's beautiful casa for one month and would have stayed longer if we could. It was just perfect with every detail thought out. We loved siting outside mornings and evenings enjoying the garden and views. We cooked delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the house was spacious-- everything needed is there and the location is great for day trips to towns all around central Portugal. Would love to return someday!

Dornes is a magical place, hidden in a place full of charm and tranquility. And the House of Lis is beautiful: spacious, comfortable, cared for lovingly and with a garden that makes you think of Rivendale ... Dawn in the mist of the river and see the sunset in front of the fireplace has been the best of our trip, Which we will always remember as an experience full of peace and beauty. Many thanks to Liz and Frans for their attentions and for their kindness. My family and I have had a very special Christmas thanks to you and we promise to return to meet Dornes in spring / summer.

Beautiful place, great location. Small village, surrounded by mountains and by a river in a valley. The house is comfortable with everything you need. We stayed the last 4 days of the 2014 ( 2 couples and 4 children's ) . Is a perfect place to stay with a friends and to relax. The house is not so warm upstairs than downstairs, but in alternative we have a fireplace ( upstairs ), which works perfect. From the village we have a lot of different walking treks, we have the river to swim ( in the summer ). Anyway, just to say we had a great stay in this house. What a magical space. So beautiful, the photos don't do it justice as it is far better. Immaculately clean with views from every window and angle. Check in and out went smoothly. This location is off the beaten path but that allowed us a lovely three hours walk in to the forest directly from our front door. The masseuse whose brochure we found in the house was brilliant. The house was very well equipped and everything worked well. I can see how this is year round destination of choice.

Amazing house and great location! We stayed at Liz's house for 4 weeks and it was amazing. The house and village are even better than on photos. The house has everything you need for comfortable staying. Dornes is very calm and beautiful village, close to Tomar and not far from Lisbon and Porto. Liz and Frans are very friendly and helpful, thank you very much! We hope come again one day.

Great place to stay during vacations in Portugal. It is off the main touristic roads, but at the same time not far away from main attractions. You live in a small village feeling the history of this ancient pjace and enjoying calm and nature. Will definetely come back here!!! A Casa do Barco foi uma óptima surpresa! Espaçosa, confortável, limpa e inserida numa paisagem fantástica, com uma vista de cortar a respiração! A casa tem praticamente tudo o que é necessário para passar alguns dias de descanso e a simpatia e disponibilidade dos anfitriões são mais um ponto a favor! Experiência a repetir, sem dúvida :)

Tive a sorte de descobrir a Casa do Barco, numa zona fantástica e com uma vista de topo para o Rio Zêzere e envolvência, numa zona tranquila e super relaxante. A casa em si tem todas as condições para usofruto em pleno e os anfitriões têm o cuidado de deixar tudo impecávelmente limpo e pronta a habitar, sem quaisquer preocupações para nós. A dona da casa, Sandra, atenciosa e prestável, desde antes da chegada e sempre disponível, mas deixando-nos à vontade. Sentimo-nos em casa. Foi uma estadia perfeita, com recomendações dos anfitriões acerca do que ver na zona, uma das mais bonitas de Portugal. Ainda acerca da Casa do Barco, local excelente, bem localizado, vista fantástica, quartos óptimos e espaçosos, bem decorados... (já disse que a vista é fantástica?

We've had a wonderful time in casa Franco! Pedro and Bernadette are such nice people and the appartement is just great. Everything you need is there and it's very clean. The poolarea is lovely. We wish we could have stayed longer! Pedro helped us with the bbq and woodoven, wich was a very nice experience. Our girls loved Bernadette. They miss her and they're still talking about her. Thank you for everything!

Both my son and I were delighted with the exceptional service and care, which we received from Pedro and Bernadette. The cottage is in a delightful setting with a long distance view of the hills from the front balcony and re-energizing greenery on all the other sides with lovely big windows providing a light and airy feel to the cottage. Pedro and Bernadette have equipped the cottage very generously with everything that you can imagine needing during your stay. It’s also immaculately clean and well-kept with everything in working order. The general feel of the cottage is fresh and light. The garden is currently full of beautiful flowers. Pedro and Bernadette have helped us in every way possible and have done anything as well as provided anything to make our stay more pleasurable. We shall definitely be coming again. We had a wonderful four weeks in Pedro and Bernadette's lovely annex cottage. It had everything we needed and a very nice view from the balcony. In the open plan upstairs kitchen, dining, livingroom part there are large windows on three sides which gave us a very open, light and spacious feeling. We also enjoyed lighting up the wood burner on some of the cooler evenings. So much nicer than electric heat (which was also available). We had great communication throughout our stay with Pedro and Bernadette but also at no time found them to be imposing on our privacy. It was like having great neighbours. Our dog got along very well with their dogs and it was a treat for all to let them have the run of the enclosed yard together a couple of times a day. There are also some fantastic trails behind the house where we walked our dog for an hour or two each day and we found a great spot back there where we went for a picnic a couple of times even though it was November and December. There was also a nice 3km walk from the front of the house into town where we went to market for fresh produce. The town of Alvaiazere is centrally located in a 50km radius of 5 small cities where we enjoyed sightseeing and having a coffee or wine on the ridiculously inexpensive terraces in the town squares. We were also about an hour from some fantastic beaches and had a great time at one of these one day with our hosts and their dogs. We will be back for sure!

Our stay at Casa Franco was the midpoint of a months-long European holiday, so we'd been an the road for weeks and were looking for some serious R&R. I'd been eyeing the listing for about six months before booking and had some pretty high expectations of our stay, but Pedro & Bernadette exceeded them. The apartment is lovely and homey, the property is gorgeous, there's an English pub three doors down with a free library and pool table, and Max & Ruby (dogs) are an adorable double-act. Pedro and Bernadette are always available (without being intrusive) and went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcomed, from the little things like a bowl of freshly picked citrus, to the bigger things, like helping me sort out my lost laptop charger (inexplicably trapped in the postal system - long story) and taking us into Ourém for market day. We had great fun using the wood-fired oven and cooking in the very well-equipped kitchen of the apartment. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Pedro and Bernadette are some of the nicest, most welcoming people I've ever met. They provide a level of hospitality that approaches professional standards. Their guest apartment is comfortable and cozy, and it has all the things I needed, including a gorgeous view. The only possible drawback I can think of is that the apartment only receives about an hour of direct sunlight in November. But I easily solved that small letdown by going for sunny walks in the beautiful hills and valleys surrounding their house. And by going on fun daytrips to nearby towns with Bernadette and Pedro, who was more than happy to drive. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and I highly, highly recommend staying here.

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Franco. actually we loved it so much we stayed an extra night! Pedro and Bernadette are super friendly hosts and made us feel at home right away. The surrounding is rural and nice and quiet. The appartement is well equipped and also in the winter very comfortable. Definitely coming back when we are in the neighborhood!

What a great stay! We have loved our time in Pedro and Bernie's cottage. They were both so welcoming, helpful and thoughtful, and have wonderful dogs! The cottage was spotless on arrival, warm and cozy. Light and airy. Tip; bring slippers in the colder months as the floor is tiled. Nice small selection of DVDs, books and games. Good bathroom. Really comfy double bed. Use of washing machine was really appreciated as we stayed a month. Private and secure parking was fabulous. Wonderful walks in the forest where we didn't meet anyone and into the town across a track with no traffic. A great location to explore central Portugal - our highlights were Tomar (30 mins), Coimbra (50 mins), Nazare fab beach (just over 1 hour), Conimbriga Roman Ruins (40 mins), the mountain you can see from the window is great for watching the sun set and having a picnic (10 mins). This area is also great for cheap, quality food. The little bar just down the road is lovely and the owner very friendly. We were here for Dec/Jan and the weather was great, sunny with very little rain. Christmas here was wonderful and Pedro even let us use his wood-fired oven to roast our joint of bacon - it tasted delicious and is a memory to keep from here. We don't speak Portuguese but this was not much of a problem and the larger towns speak English most of the time. Overall, this was one of the best experiences we have had with Airbnb - hosts, cottage, location. It was a delight and we were sorry to leave.

We had a fantastic stay at Synco's beautiful farm house! Bathed in the pool every day, barbecued and had dinner on the terrace each evening, and played petanque at the petanque court at every sundown while sipping delicious Portugeese rosé. The house was spacious and even though we were three generations together it did not feel cramped. The rooms are beautiful and very tasteful decorated. Synco (and Ernst) was very helpful. We will definitely come back if ever in the area again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Anna. The villa met our expecations in every aspect; it was spacious for four couples, nicely decorated and the pool area was great during hot summer days. We spent our evenings barbequing and enjoying local wines. We highly recommend this place for everyone.

We were greeted on arrival and departure and made to feel extremely welcome. The villa is located in rural Portugal, and perfect if you are looking for a real break away from busy life. The house is absolutely gorgeous, crafted and decorated with love rather than building something cheap to get tourists in, it's a really nice home!

Wat een fantastisch huis! Hartelijke ontvangst door Andy en Ann die overigens altijd voor je klaar staan. We hebben met z'n tienen genoten van de luxe, rust en ruimte. Heerlijk ontbijten onder de olijfbomen na eerst een ochtendduik te hebben genomen. Lang genieten van de avondzon aan het zwembad . Het huis is van alle gemakken voorzien en de inventaris meer dan compleet! Mooie omgeving, leuke dagtrips waarover ook veel informatie te vinden is in de informatiemap. Dankjewel Synco, we komen graag weer een keer terug!
