The Writer's Cottage is a tiny white house on a country road; vintage, complete, and inspiring. Built in the nineteenth century, it's perfect for a solo traveler or a pair of travelers exploring the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley. If you like rustic buildings, you'll be a fan of the cottage; it's an incredibly cozy time warp. Find an airy loft up narrow enclosed stairs, but everything you need to be comfortable is right on the first floor. Enjoy the orchard outside and an acre of lawn.
Our location is in New York, right on the border of the Berkshires hills, in the perfect position to fan out for destinations north and south. You're just 20 minutes away from Tanglewood, Kripalu Yoga Center and Jiminy Peak Ski. We're a great hub, but please make sure that you like our location and love the great value it offers before you book. The base price is for two people, and we don't have a cleaning fee. The only other charge we have is $15 for each additional person (except for kids little enough to be in a crib). For its small size, the cottage has several discrete spaces. Downstairs is a bedroom with a queen size bed and two cozy chairs. A well-equipped kitchenette has a shiplap vaulted ceiling and a round table that seats four, plus an ample mudroom for jackets, skis, boots and fishing poles. A writing room is just big enough for a cozy sofa and a desk, with a view of the orchard. The sofa can open up into a comfortable single bed, good for either an adult or a child. This room is also a good place to put a crib. There's a narrow bathroom next door. Up an amazing tiny enclosed staircase is an open loft space perfect for meditation, music, reading, privacy, or painting. You'll find work tables, a rocking chair and a yoga mat there. The loft could be an extra place to sleep too. We can put a double air mattress on a bed frame there at your request, if you're willing to navigate those steep stairs with care at night. Note that the stairs lead right into the downstairs bedroom, which may be a privacy issue for some. This is an ideal spot for a weekend respite from the city, or as a base to explore the area. It calls to people working on creative projects, or those looking for a longer hiatus. It has all the important amenities, like good cell service, light, and dedicated wireless internet. There's a washer/dryer too. The Writer's Cottage offers quality linens with a supply of pillows, duvet, blanket and coverlet for your bed. The shower may be narrow, but it's well equipped with a broad choice of shampoos, conditioners and and soaps. In the kitchen you'll find good china and glassware, as well as a quality supply of cookware and equipment. There are coffees and teas available, as well as olive oil, vinegars and spices, but no dishwasher... and no tv! Note that the doorways are narrow and the upper loft space is only six feet tall. But there's lots of old wood and so much charm. Relax on deck chairs or the hammock out back, on the porch out front, or set up lunch at the big round iron table and chairs on the grassy acre outside the back door. Some more features: even in midsummer, this area offers generally comfortable evening temperatures, but for the occasional night when it's hot, you'll find air conditioning inside. People tell us that they like to know more about how we care for the beds and linens, so here is a little detail. We use sheets with high thread counts and wash them in Seventh Generation natural detergent. Pillows and comforters are down-alternative. We use protective covers for pillows, and encase the bed's mattress and box spring too. If you're here for a short stay, you can find everything you need right on the first floor if you choose. There's a place for hangers on the back of the Writing Room door. For longer stays, there's a chest of drawers and a full-size closet up in the loft.
The Writer's Cottage is a great retreat both in summer and winter, whether you prefer a cozy break or search for culture and action. It's perfectly positioned for taking advantage of the Berkshires, including so much fine music, theater, food, art and natural beauty that you can't possibly do it all justice no matter how hard you try. Tanglewood is about 20 minutes away, and so is the Kripalu Yoga Center. There is a swift, scenic route to get to both of those from here, through pasture and forest, and ending with a wonderful view of the Stockbridge Bowl. In the winter, ski trails at Jiminy Peak or Bousquet are less than a half hour away, and Butternut is just a little farther. Hiking trails and conservancies abound. In the springtime, it's great to see the leafy woods and gardens emerge. It's locavore and farmer's market heaven in the summer and fall. Another summertime treat hidden nearby is Queechy Lake, with lifeguard and sandy shore, one of the cleanest and most delicious lakes in New York state. There's also a nice local park in town, with two newly refurbished tennis courts. Check out our online guidebook for a full listing of the places we love most around here for visit or a meal. There are seven fine art museums, eight theater companies, three Shaker villages and two orchestral venues within an hour's radius. We're a good jumping -off point for visiting the Berkshire towns-- it takes about 20 minutes to get to Lenox, Pittsfield and West Stockbridge in Massachusetts, for example. You're also only about twenty minutes from several other historic towns and villages of New York, such as Old Chatham, Canaan, and Spencertown.
  • This is such a special place in a beautiful location. Tegan Joy is the ultimate hostess--warm and welcoming, with perfect touches for a quiet and comfortable stay. I went seeking solitude and beauty, and had a restful weekend of both, replete with a walk with beautiful views of the berkshire hills. Also lots of lists and options for places to visit and stay--next time I hope to stay longer!

    Christine2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time I've stayed here, and when we come back to the Berkshires I hope it will be available! We love to cook, and the selections and quality of cooking oil, spices (even the salt and pepper is better than most), utensils, pans, etc. is wonderful. Plus a vase of fresh flowers, everything is sparkling clean, a spacious back yard with woods beyond... a lot to love!

    Mirea2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding host and beautiful place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. Tegan gave us a bunch of ideas of things to do for the weekend and the overall attention to detail at this cottage was so appreciated. We will definitely be back here!

  • I can’t say enough about this place! It’s the perfect writer’s retreat. It’s quiet, cozy, and has several great nooks to curl up and write in. It had everything I could have possibly needed. It would also be a good place for a couple who wanted to get away and enjoy nature together. I will definitely be staying here again.

    Elizabeth2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! We were unsure if the place was going to be too small but not at all! We had the perfect space for two adults and the little toddler. The apartment was very clean with AMAZING TOUCHES! We found apples, eggs, coffee for us in the fridge! So nice. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you need (incl condiments). Bathroom will several body wash, shampoos. Last but not least, our LO had everything he needed: crib&high chair! About location. Same as the mill, perfectly located to discover the Berkshires! Will definitely come back again!

  • We had the most relaxing weekend at Maggie’s. The place is amazing and Maggie has thought of absolutely everything you could need! We brought our dog and she had a bin for poop bags, a doggy bed & dog treats. The place looks exactly like the photos - waking up to that view over the pond every morning ... We will definitely be back!!

  • Beyond stunning. We never wanted to leave - gorgeous views day and night. We actually went outside and laid in the grass and watched the sky at night because it was so beautiful. Comfortable bed, and Maggie was a fantastic host that went out of her way to make sure we were welcome and comfortable.

  • We enjoyed an incredibly cozy weekend stay at The Bird Cottage! It was ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Delightful touches and yummy provisions as bonus! A hiking trail out back and great nearby restaurants. Book it!

    Thomas2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie’s place was absolutely fantastic. There’s is not a single thing I could think to complain about. Whether it’s coffee and snacks, or enough towels for 6 people even as two guests, the place was amazing. To top it all off biscuit is the friendliest pup in the world, and Maggie’s number one rule is you cannot leave until you give biscuit a belly rub. Would highly recommend.

    Mert2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Maggies place was amazing. It is in a very peaceful and beautiful location. Maggie was quick to help us with all of our needs. The thought and care put into the guesthouse was beyond our expectations. We highly recommend staying here.

  • Maggie was the most hospitable host I've ever had on AirBnB! From the snack-stocked mini fridge to the hand delivered quiche for breakfast- Maggie thought of everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Bird Cottage, the trails around Oom Pond, and our dog loved being able to explore the area! 10/10 would recommend for a quaint and quiet getaway

    Elke2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Bird Cottage exceeded my expectations. Maggie and Peter were amazing hosts; very warm and welcoming. The cottage was spacious and had many special touches-cozy bedding, lovely artwork and furnishings and lots of snacks and beverages. The property is lovely and very peaceful and quiet. I stayed there in the winter but would love to come again in the warmer months. It also lives up to its name as I saw many beautiful birds through the windows!

    Marian2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in Maggie's guest house and absolutely recommend! Maggie was really communicative and helpful in advance of the trip, letting me know about the weather and possible activities in the area, which was all greatly appreciated. Check-in was seamless and the space itself is beautifully appointed and cozy! Maggie had clearly thought of every possible amenity we might have needed for our weekend and was especially thoughtful in leaving us some special treats, including a homemade quiche and maple syrup made by a neighbor! The property itself is also really lovely and worth spending some time meandering. We had a great morning drinking coffee by the pond with Biscuit, her yellow lab, who I am still thinking about. :) This is a great spot for any solo travelers or couples--we absolutely hope to visit again. Thanks, Maggie!

  • We had an amazing weekend at Susan’s. Our goal for the weekend was to escape the city, explore local fare, and give our pup much needed green space. Susan’s place delivered on all of these. The space was great — the bed was extremely comfortable, it felt very private, and the house in itself was very dog friendly. Susan made us an amazing breakfast both mornings of our stay, and had a great system of playing music at an agreed upon time to let us know she was in the downstairs space. Outside of making breakfast for us, she left the bedroom, kitchen, and living area for our private use. The location was also exactly what we were looking for. We had a great time exploring the local towns, hiking the conservatory, visiting the Chatham Brewery, and listening to live music late night in Valatie. Susan’s place is on an incredible piece of land, and our mini goldendoodle, Charlie, loved exploring. Plus, Susan and Charlie hit it off and she was kind enough to spend some time with her while we explored. Susan’s an amazing pup sitter. Charlie LOVED her. We had an amazing weekend at Susan’s and would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for a nice, quiet weekend away from the city!

  • Susan is a wonderful host. Very easy to communicate with and was very helpfully flexible with checkin. She made us a great breakfast and even sent us home with a plant from her garden. Thank you!

    Ian2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at Susan's to have a few days to explore the area and get our dog out of the city. We had a lovely stay - Susan is a kind and warm person who made us feel immediately welcome in her home. We ended up with pretty terrible weather, which just meant more cozy time indoors in front of the wood burning stove, which was a treat. Susan had a great recommendation for where we could go for a trail run, and when the sleet cut that short, we ended up exploring Chatham's main street - Goodness on Main had incredible baked goods, and I bought yarn for a sweater at The Warm Ewe. We really loved the area, and Susan's house was a very comfortable and cozy jumping off point for us. Susan has had an interesting career and is genuinely interested in other people, we enjoyed getting to know her over breakfast and appreciated her warm hospitality.

    Karina2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Susan’s place is exactly as billed and more. We loved being able to get away and Susan’s place is so warm and welcoming. Even without a door, you have absolute privacy and it is like you have the place to yourself. Breakfast was amazing and Susan is such a wonderful woman. We would definitely stay again

  • Wonderful stay, very quaint in the middle of a quaint village along quiet country roads. And exceptionally clean. Oven was a little complicated or maybe I didnt read the instructions enough if it was there. But country store across the street has everything you need, food was actually really good.

  • What a wonderful place to call home for a few days! A sweet combination of old charm meets beautiful luxury amenities. The town of Chatham is lovely. The estate location was near Williamstown and Lenox, too. We enjoyed superb hiking, museums, theater and restaurants. Can’t wait to go back.

  • Really stylish and cute apartment situated right in the town of Old Chatham. Easy access to Hudson, Chatham, Lenox and all the gorgeous natural beauty, arts, and historic properties in between. We had a great stay and will be back to the Chatham area as soon as possible!!

  • This space is really beautiful! It’s super clean and well appointed decor make you instantly feel welcome. Super cozy bed and the gorgeous bathroom are the highlights - the shower is stunning. The place is located as an apartment style unit connected to a larger estate. It has a private entrance so you won’t have to interact with other guests. Conveniently located within walking to a tavern style bar/restaurant and a country market for morning coffee. We loved this place and definitely recommend.

Enjoy a quiet respite from the city in this architect-designed tiny house overlooking a meadow, deep in the woods. Located on 20 acres of land with private trails and Catskill-mountain views, this bespoke cabin feels blissfully far away from everything, yet it’s only a 15-minute drive from vibrant city of Hudson, NY. Experience a peaceful off-the-grid retreat —complete with hand-crank Victrola. Time moves slower here. The sky is closer. The stars, brighter. Note: NO electricity. NO Running water
The setting is intimate, serene, secluded. Clerestory windows contribute to a sculptural play of light against gently angled, hand-plastered walls. Downstairs: A bold, vintage-inspired ceramic tile floor, a wood-burning stove, and a bay window with a window seat for long, lazy afternoons of reading. Upstairs: the loft bedroom features wide, white-washed pine floors, a comfortable full-size bed and hand-crafted cabinets. Savor the pleasures of camping, of being close to nature, while experiencing the comforts of an idiosyncratic, beautifully designed abode. The cabin is well insulated, thus stays cool in the summer and warms up quickly in the winter. The cabin comes with a supply of drinking water. Cooking can be done indoors, on the wood-burning stove, or outside, on the Weber grill. Plenty of firewood (walnut, harvested from the property) awaits you. An outhouse toilet is sited about 200 yards away from the cabin. There is NO electricity and NO running water. If there is snow the drive is not plowed so the cabin is only accessible by parking at the end of the driveway and hiking to the cabin. This is approximately a 400 yard walk in the snow so bring boots or snow shoes and wear a backpack to get your supplies to the cabin!
The Hudson River, and boat launch for canoes and kayaks, is just a 20-minute walk or 3 minute drive away. The Stockport Creek, a conservation area, is even closer. In the opposite direction are trails on hundreds of acres that are protected and owned by Scenic Hudson. Fishing: There are striped bass and large mouth bass under the Stockport Creek bridge and under the Amtrack bridge, where the Stockport Creek feeds into the Hudson River.
  • This was such a unique experience. I spent a of couple days at the cabin. Cut wood and newspaper were left for making fires. There was more than enough equipment there to be self sufficient. Also a 15 minute drive into town if you are looking to be social!

    Dakota2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at this cabin was such an incredibly unique experience. We enjoyed staying here and the opportunity to fall in love with Hudson. Can't wait to come back.

    Alex2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • unique cabin, thoughtfully designed and crafted - nestled in a forest clearing. We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay - well insulated - easy to keep the cabin warm in winter.

  • Great cabin, in a great spot! I will be back.

    Matt2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing getaway from the city. All the little touches like the candle lit atmosphere, little radio, fireplace, and great book collection added to the tranquil cabin experience. The sweetest little place. John is extremely helpful and a great host.

    Brandi2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • John's cabin is the perfect woodsy getaway. It was super warm and cozy, despite it being below freezing outside, and we loved cooking on the wood-burning stove! I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a "glamping" experience with an extra touch of magic!!

    Rosaleen2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed in this beautiful cabin for the weekend and it really is as striking in person as it is in pictures. We came in the dead of winter when the weather dropped to around 15 degrees and stayed nice and toasty with the wood burning stove. We cooked on the stove as well and ate a candlelit dinner. We had an amazing time, thank you, John!

    Esther2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is incredible. We really appreciated all the little touches to make the get away even better. We were expecting it to be amazing but it turned out to be more so when we arrived! John is very accommodating and really does provide more wood than you’d ever need. It’s also very private and quiet. We didn’t see another person the whole time as the land we were on is very spacious. Cooking was a lot of fun and the inside stove is great for just that. We also used the grill and fire place at times. We definitely want to come back in the summer since we visited in January. Although we were lucky enough to have unseasonably warm weather. With that said, this is the first Airbnb place we’ve ever considered revisiting. A true gem.

One of the few brick Georgians in Columbia County, the Samuel Wilbur House is a stately reminder of the past. Wilbur, a NYS Senator during the Colonial era, created a home of outstanding beauty and balance. All of the finishes are of the highest quality, with many of the original details intact. The floors have over a century of patina, the moldings are hand crafted, the fireplace mantels works of art, exposed beams and bricks lend interest to the ceilings and walls. Updated where it's needed, particularly in the main kitchen where modern aesthetics give clean thought to this antique beauty. Wonderful new windows bring in the light and amazing old windows (the Palladian in particular) divide and cast the sun in exciting ways. All of the baths have been reclaimed, modern tile and glass breath new life into old spaces. A home that offers the best of old and new in a space big enough to accommodate up to 8 guests.

  • My family spent a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Francois and Ann’s house. It’s gorgeous, comfortable, cozy and very well equipped. The kitchen is especially magnificent. Francois and Ann were easy to work with and fast to respond. Highly recommend!

  • We had a wonderful stay here while in NY for a wedding. The kitchen is incredible -- and our two-year-old loved the giraffe. The living room also makes for a cozy hang, and the beds and baths were all lovely, while overall the house maintained its old charm. The location is also convenient to a cute local market and restaurant for times when you don't want to drive.

  • This is a charming and unique old home in the quaint little village of Old Chatham, NY. The house is spacious (it easily accommodated our family of 7 adults and 2 children) and has a very large and very well-equipped kitchen. The hosts are great communicators and have provided a warm and welcoming home.

  • What an amazing experience! The house is exactly how it's shown in pictures. Sparkling clean, restaurant-grade kitchen amenities, beautiful decor, lots of space and thoughtful touches. There are two restaurants and a mini-market across the street so you don't have to drive anywhere. Francois is an amazing host. We will be back next year!

    Iryna2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were extremely responsive - we had some questions after checking in and they got back to us quickly and helpfully. They also very graciously allowed us to check out late on our departure day which was much appreciated! The house is super spacious, well appointed with high end furnishings and very comfortable bed and linens in the master bedroom (we didnt try out any other beds, so can't comment on those). The kitchen is an amazing chefs kitchen with everything you can think of, really large and a fun space to cook in. All in all a very comfortable place and could easily accommodate a large group of people since there is so much space, and multiple bathrooms. We did find it was a little challenging for very young kids (our twins are 2.5 years old) -- the kitchen has only tall backless stools, and the dining room is formal with nice upholstered chairs and a nice rug, so there wasn't an easy way to feed little ones. Not a criticism of the house at all, just a heads up for anyone traveling with toddlers. Other than that it was really great and we also loved the location, right across the street from general store with coffee and restaurant but also very quiet and set back from the street. Lovely place!

    Sarah2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • There are so many great things about this house. We were a party of four friends looking to get out of the city for Labor Day Weekend and relax Location - located right next to a very small, quaint town center (town had 1 post office, 1 small country store / cafe, and 1 restaurant) so you can easily pick up something you need last minute - lots of hiking just short drive away - great supermarkets within 20 min drive - big yard with lots of trees so though you are in town you are still surrounded by nature House - the kitchen is not only stunning but very very well equipped. It had every kind of pots, pans, bakeware that we needed. Also very nice silverware and plates (you feel like you really are in someone’s nice home rather than a vacation property) - this house had the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in a hotel or Airbnb (and I’ve rented a lot) - the furnishings of this house is very nice and high end. If you have little ones, I would suggest having them take off shoes at entrance of house in case they jump on furniture. - lots of space and privacy for each guest - overall the house felt like a luxury farm house experience - would highly recommend Outdoor - the grill is a firewood grill. It was amazing for grilling steak but you do have to be prepared to tackle the firewood. There is a place down the street (5 min walk) that sells bundles of wood if you need more - great outdoor seating with a fire pit. We actually never ate inside because the patio was so lovely to dine in.

    Jade2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous Airbnb. We held a family reunion with 6 adults and three children and thoroughly enjoyed the space and privacy each family had. The outside patio is very comfortable with a wonderful grill and fire pit where we roasted marshmallows. The yard was great for running around. Each room is very comfortable with it’s own bathroom. It was built in 1810 yet has been updated without losing it’s charm. The new kitchen is so attractive and comfortable so we spent most of our time there and on the patio. The hosts are very responsive to questions. Highly recommend.

Visit Tanglewood, Kripalu, Jacobs Pillow, Jiminy Peak, Bousquet Mountain, Lebanon Valley Speedway, Albany, Pittsfield, Lenox... go for a hike, ski, visit Furnace Brook Winery or just relax on our property and unwind.
*****Our family host a haunted trail during October on Friday and Saturday nights! We have decorations up. Nobody is around during the week except for my family and guest, so it's pretty quiet .******** First in 1834, our house was a carriage house (with horse parlor) that was set behind the grand house unfortunately lost in a fire. Our house mostly survived the fire, was beautifully restored and has been used for several things....including an Inn, a restaurant and legend has it as being a Jin Joint during prohibition and used as a gangster hideaway,. It has also been a gambling house, roadhouse and in 1939 was raided by the Feds who seized $10,000 worth of gambling equipment. Rumor has it that it was possibly a stop for the Underground Railroad. In more recent years it was known as the Pillars Restaurant. The restaurant is now closed and We have turned it into our home. Large enough for weddings and gatherings. (Ask for details) 7 acres to checkout including a small stream. Plenty of paved parking.
Private and Quiet but close to New Lebanon Speedway and Skiing....Check out Jiminy Peak Ski and Mountain Adventure, or Bousquet Ski area. We are 13 minutes to Pittsfield Ma. About 35 minutes to Albany, 10 minutes to Furnace Brook Winery at Hilltop Orchards, 25 minutes to Tangelwood and Kripalu. There is also good fishing, hunting and hiking close to our home or just a chance to relax on this beautiful, historic property.

We're offering the Airy Apartment at a special price of $2000 per month for a stay of at least six weeks during April and May. The property has not been occupied during the epidemic and can be a safe refuge. Send us an inquiry. Distinctive 2-bedroom with lots of windows and light and a kind of shabby elegance. Enormous master bedroom with dressing room, 2nd bedroom with twin beds, lovely living room, separate dining room, kitchen. Acre of orchard outside with big porch.
Do you crave space? This grand dame of an apartment has high ceilings and sun pouring in through big windows onto hardwood floors. Lots of amenities but no clutter. It used to be the splendid side of an old boarding house, now a bit worn but still lovely. Our location is in New York, right on the border of the Berkshires, in a perfect position to fan out for destinations north and south. You're just 20 minutes away from Tanglewood, Kripalu Yoga Center and Jiminy Peak Ski. We're an excellent hub, but please make sure that you like our location and love the great value it offers before you book. The property works well for two people, or for a couple joined by two others. The base price is for two people, and we don't charge a cleaning fee. The only other cost is a $15 charge for every additional person (except for kids little enough to be in a crib). The front door opens off a giant front porch into a foyer, where the old staircase winds its way up to the second floor. Step into the big living room, with its four sunny windows, oriental rug, cozy places to sit, books, and marble- topped tables. Set the ample dining room table next door with the full Royal Doulton service; cook up a meal in the nicely stocked kitchen with all its blue and white wares. There's a full-size fridge, stove, microwave, coffee-maker, toaster-- but the sink is a relic. It's an old enamel version from the twenties, and there is no dishwasher. You'll have to enjoy handling all the nice dishes and glassware. But there is good space to work in there, and fine supplies, like coffee, tea, oil, vinegar, and spices. A separate back entrance to the kitchen is really the main way in and is convenient to your car. The bathroom is at the top of the stairs; you'll find a tub with shower, several shelves, and washer/dryer there, as well as a nice array of shampoos and conditioners and soaps. Your towels stay warm on the heated rack. The master bedroom is enormous and airy -- sun pours in from four big windows. The queen- size bed has ample bedside tables and reading lamps; there's also a round table with chairs, a club chair with ottoman, and cable tv. The adjacent dressing room has its own big window, a marble-top chest of drawers, full-length mirrors and a big closet. It's a good place for a portable crib or an air mattress for another little sleeper, too. There is still so much space left that you could waltz in these rooms. The master bedroom gets a great breeze. Summer evenings in this area are rarely too hot, but when that happens, there's air conditioning in this room. The second bedroom has a more cozy feel. It has eaves, a lower ceiling and three small windows, and there's air conditioning here too for a hot day. The twin beds are equipped with swing-arm lighting, and each has its own corner of the room. This is a perfect place to read in the armchair, or do some work at the vintage table in front of the window. This bedroom offers ample space, with a closet and a marble-topped chest of drawers.
If you're not certain about distances, don't hesitate to write us. Mass MOCA makes an unforgettable day trip, for example, but we're not the best base if you plan to go back and forth to North Adams more than once during your stay. The same is true for Albany and Great Barrington, for example. We promise to give you good advice. New Lebanon, at the top of Columbia County, New York, is a pretty funky town, not a Norman Rockwell town. Many people drive right through it to go north for antiquing or skiing, to take the scenic pass into Massachusetts or to pick up the nearby NY thruway. Our town is so small that there's only one stoplight, and that's a blinking one. There's no night life to speak of, no sidewalks, and we lack a big grocery store. The upside is that our location right next to the Berkshires is what makes the Airy Apartment at the old boarding house such a good value, and so good for exploring. You can get easily to almost all the places you'd like to see-- more easily, we find, than from some of the Berkshire towns themselves. And whatever New Lebanon lacks in picket fences, it offers in glorious hillside viewscapes. The town has a remarkable allotment of Shaker history. Visit the Shaker museum with its variety of Shaker buildings, or take the self-guided walk by the massive ruin of the Great Stone Barn at Mount Lebanon. This place was recognized by the World Monuments Fund as one of the 100 most significant endangered sites in the world, and it's right here in town. Lebanon Springs, on the other side of town, was utterly famous in the nineteenth century for its warm water spa. It was frequented by the luminaries of the time, such as Charles Dickens, Mark Twain and the Marquis de Lafayette. The warm spring still courses down the hillside, but in obscurity now. In fact, you can download a great app for free called "The Water and the Word". It's a brief driving tour of these kinds of sites in town. Each site has an additional chapter that relates the site to the fascinating history of the country of the time; you don't have to be on the actual driving tour to enjoy that. Listen to it on your way in! There is plenty to enjoy in New Lebanon. We're two miles from the center of town. Stop at Blueberry Hill Market Cafe for coffee and something delicious for breakfast or lunch (and dinners on Friday and Saturday nights). Try M&M's for a late dinner of burgers, wings, and some craft beer, or reserve at Mario's for a fancy meal. Trek along the beaver dams at Hand Hollow Conservation Area. Go to the antique auction at Meissner's on most Saturdays at 4, where we've found astonishing values. The Airy Apartment at the old boarding house is a great retreat both in summer and winter, whether you are looking for a cozy break or search for culture and action. It's perfectly positioned for taking advantage of the Berkshires, including so much fine music, theater, food, art and natural beauty that you can't possibly do it all justice no matter how hard you try. A treat hidden nearby is Queechy Lake, with lifeguard and sandy shore, one of the cleanest and most delicious lakes in New York state. There's also a nice local park in town, with two newly redone tennis courts. Check out our online guidebook for a full listing of the places we love most around here for visit or a meal. We're a good jumping-off point for visiting the Berkshire towns-- it takes about 20 minutes to get to Lenox, Pittsfield and West Stockbridge in Massachusetts, for example. You're also only about twenty minutes from several other historic towns and villages of New York, such as Old Chatham, Canaan, and Spencertown.
  • Wonderful stay as always!

  • This place is really as it’s described. It’s a quiet, clean and great place to relax. If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax, this is definitely the place.

  • This place was beautiful and perfect location for us skiing for the weekend in Western Mass. Thanks!

    Julia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as a family of four, primarily looking for easy access to the ski areas at Jiminy Peak and Bousquets. The house is really interesting and historical and very spacious indeed. I would recommend the property for a family group or a couple, it is fantastic value for money. Would work well for Tanglewood too.

    Chris2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is pretty great. It’s very comfortable and cozy with plenty of amenities and lots of local information both in the welcome binder and from Tegan!

  • Fantastic! Wonderful hospitality, great touches. Will definitely stay again when I’m back in the area!

  • The house was so clean and comfortable the hosts went the extra mile by adding everything needed to stay including food ! Can't wait to come back

    Omar2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Airy Apartment for 3 nights as part of our winter break for a ski trip to Jiminy Peak. We had a great time. Tegan our host was very welcoming, the apartment was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed plus more. It is super cute and the kids loved the attic room. A quick 20min drive to the mountain made it very convenient. Will definitely return if we ski at Jiminy Peak again.

The oldest house in town, fully renovated. Beautiful two-story living room with leafy, private back deck for meals outside. Kitchen with stone counters, gas cook top, and dishwasher; two bathrooms with warm floors. Floorboards upstairs a foot wide; queen size bed with view over the trees, creek and porch.
It's a roomy red sawmill that's 260 years old. There is wonderful light from windows set high and low. It's located across the garden from the big grist mill where we live, on two acres of beautiful gardens, creek and woods. Our location is in New York, right on the border of the Berkshires, in a perfect position to fan out for destinations north and south. You're just 20 minutes away from Tanglewood, Kripalu Yoga Center and Jiminy Peak Ski. We're a great hub, but please make sure that you like our location and love the great value it offers before you book. The base price is for two people, and we don't charge a cleaning fee. The only other charge is for an extra person or two (except for kids little enough to be in a crib).

  • The saw mill is a lovely getaway and Joe and Fiona are terrific, thoughtful and kind hosts. Will 100% be coming back

    Mikhail2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • My third stay at the Sawmill. I seem to keep returning here, and for a good reason!

    Tomasz2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • One in a million chance to stay in an historic treasure! The mill was the perfect getaway- spacious and cozy, rustic and modern at the same time. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the beautiful heated floors! Our hosts, Joe and Fiona, were friendly and welcoming. Absolutely a great place to stay!

    Catherine2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • One of THE best experiences we have had! The saw mill was warm and cozy throughout our stay (despite the frigid weather) and we had a wonderful long weekend exploring the various places and areas Joe made note of. Every amenity was provided for us and then some! Joe was super responsive when we managed to accidentally lock ourselves out - and our stay was nothing short of spectacular. If we could give more than 5 stars we would! Highly recommend!

    Amy2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This would be my third stay with Joe, Fiona, and Tegan. They are all wonderful hosts and respond quickly to any questions or concerns. I’m likely to return in the spring for another stay with my daughter!

    Doreen2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our entire experience from booking to check out was seamless. Fiona and Joe were fabulous hosts—there were so many thoughtful, personal touches. We absolutely adored the saw mill. The heated floors in the bathrooms were such a nice and unexpected touch. Their suggestions for things to do around town were fantastic. We had an excellent time hiking Hand Hollow, attending the local auction at Meissner’s on Saturday, and eating at M&M Friday night and Blueberry Hill for breakfast Saturday. We can’t wait to come back!

    Jessica2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The sawmill is charming and well-appointed. We loved the spacious kitchen, the cozy showers with heated floors, and the views of the woods and creek. Our hosts were very attentive.

    Madi2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The sawmill is an excellent place to stay--one of the nicest places we've stayed at with Airbnb. Very comfortable bed. Warm and cozy space, even on cold winter nights. Heated floors in the bathroom and kitchen were amazing. Very charming and attractive interiors--nice and bright, too. The kitchen is very thoughtfully stocked with everything you could possibly need during a short stay. Joe and Fiona are wonderful hosts who took the time to introduce us to the place and chat with us about the best options for our weekend visit. We plan to go back and stay there in the summer!

This is a charming ground-floor apartment in a historic farmhouse in Spencertown, NY. The nearly 3-acre property offers privacy and a country setting, but is just a short walk to the historic hamlet's main street. We have a hot tub. Just a 7 min drive to Chatham, 20 min to Tanglewood, and 25 min to Hudson, this is the perfect spot from which to explore everything Columbia County and the Berkshires has to offer.
There are two private entrances to this apartment. Double bed in the bedroom, full pull-out in the living room. Dining area, full kitchen and bathroom. Hot tub, hammock, grill and room to roam in the backyard.
Spencertown is a historic hamlet in the town of Austerlitz. You can walk to the Country Store for a meal or basic provisions, or head to the Spencertown Academy to attend one of their many events. We’re close to all the cute towns in Columbia County, including Hudson, Hillsdale, Ghent, Chatham, etc etc as well as the Berkshire towns of Lenox, Stockbridge, and Great Barrington. If it's nature you're looking for, we are close to Taghkanic State Park, Bash Bish Falls, and several Columbia County land conservancies.
  • If you are looking for a relaxing upstate getaway, you can't get better than this. The property is gorgeous—outside, there is a beautifully maintained garden and a hot tub for post-hiking lounging, while the inside is full of charming details, a reading nook, and a crazy comfortable bed. Ryan has thought of everything you could possibly need for an amazing weekend upstate! I can't wait to come back this summer.

    Sarah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute and cozy, perfect for our weekend getaway! Ryan is very attentive and helpful, and there were plenty of thoughtful touches. The property is beautiful and the hot tub was nice to have for a cold winter night. The local area is cute as well, and there are plenty of things to do within driving distance.

    Kayla2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan’s adorable farmhouse apartment was the perfect stay for a winter weekend getaway. It was cozy and clean, with a well-equipped and functional kitchen. It felt small-town and secluded, without feeling isolated - in fact, it’s VERY close to some great restaurants, hiking, and breweries. The hot tub made such a nice touch. A hot soak after a cold hike is a wonderful feeling! My fiancé and I would recommend Ryan’s place to anyone!

    Colleen2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in Spencertown was great! Ryan's apartment was very charming and clean. We liked the area because it feels secluded, but there's lots of surrounding towns with good restaurants, bars, and shopping. We enjoyed using the hot tub. Thank you for the great stay!

    Brynne2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location. Feels secluded but surrounded by all the action of both the NY and MA sides of the Berkshires and all their natural beauty and lovely little towns. This home is very cozy, full of thoughtful touches and great amenities. The hosts went out of their way to make sure we had everything we could want.

    Marissa2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I set off for our annual foliage trip, and we are so happy that we stayed at this AirBNB. Charming/stylish, clean, easy check in / out, slightly tucked away - and yet a perfect jumping off point for all of the great local amenities or to simply explore the greater area. We loved being able to walk down to the Store for breakfast, but also appreciated that a 24 hour grocery store is just up the road by car. The best of both worlds. Ryan and Ryan were wonderful hosts, and we hope to be back!

    Lisa2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan’s space was a nice little retreat away from the city. Tucked away in Spencertown on a quiet road, we had enough privacy without being too far removed from activities and places to go! The hosts were super responsive and offered numerous suggestions throughout our stay. I would highly recommend staying at Ryan’s place. Can’t wait to come back!

    Michael2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan's place was clean, tastefully decorated, and was just pleasant to be in. We were there for a weekend getaway and it was just as advertised. The hot tub (!) was so great and Ryan was very communicative and was so helpful with thoughtful extras (a bottle of prosecco! so many fresh towels! an extra sharp knife for cooking!). Would highly recommend a stay here.

This newly renovated, light and airy home - is absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway! Whether you are visiting Hudson to see art galleries, wine taste, go antiquing or simply to explore - we would love to host you & your friends! Pets are welcome :)
Guests can use entire house, along with back porch and fire pit!
Located 5.3 miles north of downtown Hudson and the Amtrak station, you have access to all major shopping centers (just one mile away). Also, located just 7.5 miles from Art Omi, Door 21 and all major antique stores, restaurants and galleries on Warren Street.

  • The peppercorn cottage is the perfect place for a weekend getaway with friends or family. The pictures definitely do it justice, but it's difficult to get the wonderful homey feeling until you're actually there. The cottage has all the amenities you may need (no microwave) in case you want to just stock up on groceries and hunker down. Both beds are tempur-pedic and super comfortable. But if you like darkness in the morning, definitely bring an eye mask. If you don't want to be directly in town, the cottage is perfectly located 10-15 minutes from anything and everything you may need! And Brieane and Scott were great hosts that answered all questions clearly and promptly. My friends and I are already planning our summer trip to Hudson!

    Taylor2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Peppercorn cottage was adorable, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Just a short ride away from downtown - conveniently located making things easy!

    Kayla2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay. Would stay again.

    Terry2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Brieane's home! The space is much larger than the pictures show! With a car it was close to everything the Hudson area has to offer. The space was clean and comfortable. One thing to note is that it is close to a road. That didn't bother us as we are used to noise, but it's something I would want to know. We loved our stay here with the chic and modern gold and black design. We would definitely come back!

    Ilana2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute place! About 10 minutes from downtown Hudson. We loved the very cozy couch and fireplace. It was a fabulous place for a getaway weekend to relax, meditate and recharge. We brought food to make for the weekend. There isn’t a microwave which was fine for us but something to note. The place is close to other homes and you can hear cars going by regularly but nothing super noisy. We would definitely recommend staying here.

    Christine2020-01-05T00:00:00Z

Built from a saved, moved, & reconstructed 1850s- era barn from a former local dairy farm, this upstairs studio space features views of the Berkshire Mountains and walking paths on the 5 acre grounds. 20 mins from Jiminy Peak. 20 mins from Tanglewood Music Center. The space has a queen bed, sleeper sofa, kitchen area with fridge, sink, oven, stove, microwave, coffee pot and coffee, toaster, and cooking essentials. I'm sorry, but we are not allowing PETS at this time.
The uniqueness is simply the fresh air, the view, the quiet,..a walk down a country road!
The rural property is located at the tip of Northern Columbia County, where the Hudson Valley Region meets the Berkshire Mtns. It is a blend of cultural & natural beauty that makes this region special. Take a look at:. Berkshires.org for other activities.
  • Everything was perfect at The Red Barn! Big thanks to Stacy and Andy for letting us stay in their BEAUTIFUL home and for the little treats they left. The view was stunning, the room was perfect, couldn’t have asked for anything better.

    Kelcie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Stacy's barn. It was exactly what we were looking for and Stacy was an ideal host. She obviously really aimed to make sure we had everything we needed, left us orange juice, and was available to help if anything came up. The space and property are absolutely lovely. If you're planning to do computer work, note that wifi is slow (it is a barn in the Berkshires, after all); checking email is totally doable but streaming netflix or working on google docs could be a challenge. I definitely look forward to coming back for another get-away!

    Sean2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Phenomenal stay at Stacy's place. Stacy was incredibly responsive and helpful. Wonderful barn space, very unique experience staying under the beamed room. Very romantic experience. Lovely touches like the maple syrup and great kitchen amenities. Explored the Berkshires by doing a few hikes - Cascade waterfall in North Adams (frozen in Jan), and Stevens Glen trail (20 mins drive), and went walking on the frozen lake nearby - Lake Ornota. Would come back in an instant.

    Zaamin2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • As advertised. We had a great stay!

    Joost2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is hands down the best place I’ve ever stayed. The pictures cannot do it justice: this is an absolutely lovely barn, with everything you could possibly need for a great weekend away. Incredible mountain views surround. Every possible kitchen tool, pan, dish you could need. Simple to get to. And Stacy and Andy are the kindest hosts around. Just stay here already!

    Josh2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Red Barn was the perfect rustic weekend getaway. My boyfriend and I spent the weekend here for his birthday, and it was everything we were looking for. Stacy is an amazing host, and you can tell she put a lot of thought in to the space. She even left muffins and home made maple syrup which we enjoyed for breakfast! She left a very nice list of recommendations for restaurants and groceries. We did a little bit of traveling but everything is pretty close by. Whether you want to explore the Berkshires or Upstate NY, this is the perfect getaway!

    Nicole2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The barn was the perfect Thanksgiving getaway for us. The space has everything you'll need - the kitchen is particularly well-equipped - for a quiet and cozy stay. Little touches like local maple syrup added to the charm.

    Derek2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect cozy getaway perfect for two. Thoughtful personal touches including local recommendations a few items in the kitchen to tide us over, everything we needed to cook, products in the bathrooms, and a well appointed studio space with all the comforts we could have needed. • Karine's home was a perfect get-away for us, a family of four. We loved the scenery, the farm animals and most of all the cozy home. As a mother, this home was equipped with everything we needed for our short stay, yes Karine thought of everything. Her farm store was also very convenient. If you are craving peace and relaxation then this is the place for you. We will definitely stay again and I have already referred some friends:)

  • Our whole experience at Karine's farm stay was great. But, the measure of a host is how they react when things don't go as expected. I had miscalculated our stay and thought we had one more day so, while we were off hiking for the day, Karine attempted to contact us to coordinate checkout (she had new guests coming that afternoon). She couldn't reach us. When we got her texts and called her, we dropped what we were doing and headed right back. Needless to say, we were mortified and embarrassed. Without getting into the details, all we can say is that she handled the situation graciously and patiently. This was completely our (my) fault. This had never happened before and will never happen again. We are grateful to Karine and her family for their understanding. We actually gave her a gift card for a dinner at a local restaurant to show our appreciation. Getting back to the stay, The space is spacious, cozy, clean, and inviting. It looks out over their small farm, which is great to wake up to and see throughout the day. The farm store has great provisions including farm fresh eggs, bacon and other meat products. Just a great experience and a wonderful host.

  • This apartment is absolutely beautiful with all the touches anyone could want. And the farm animals are a delight to visit. It's a gorgeous location. Quiet, peaceful and your alarm clock is a rooster! Plus a farm store stocked with healthy food from animals living well. We were sad to leave.

    Violet2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Karine’s place is idyllic and beautiful. A real gem in the heart of country living.

    Bridget2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an incredible weekend at the farmstay. It is a lovely, comfortable space with lots of natural light. We took walks to the stream with our dog, looked at the farm animals (including baby goats!), bought eggs and leeks from the farmstore, did yoga in the living room, spent time in the infared sauna, wrote and read, and cooked in the spacious kitchen. We loved our time here and hope to return!

    Anna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved everything about our Retrograss farmstay. The apartment was so cozy - and the big windows overlooking the woods gave the space a treehouse-like feel. The views from the kitchen window overlooking the animal enclosures were also wonderful. This was a perfect winter getaway that would be equally lovely during any other season. We hope to return! Thank you for making this beautiful place available to the Airbnb community, Karine!

Very comfortable three-bedroom cottage in a quiet, private association on Queechy Lake. Hi-speed Spectrum internet, AllClad cookware, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, charcoal BBQ, and tons of places to hike. Apple TV with Criterion Collection pre-loaded. When the weather warms up there are kayaks for the lake and tennis courts nearby as well. Close to well-stocked supermarkets in Pittsfield, MA.
The house is decorated with vintage furniture sourced from the area. The kitchen and living area have a vaulted ceiling and the kitchen has new appliances and a charcoal grill on the deck. The kitchen is fully stocked with All-Clad pots and pans for the induction range. Dine out on the huge deck or the screened-in porch. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The house is on a dead-end lane that is perfect for kids to ride their bikes back and forth on.
This is a very quiet area surrounded by families. The small lanes are private with little traffic so the kids can safely ride their bikes. There is also a large grass common with volleyball and basketball courts.
  • We had such a great time staying in this beautiful area. So close to everything and we loved the kitchen. We hope to come back in summer to get the most out of the lake!

  • Julie and Russell’s home is warm and lovely, with everything you need for a perfect weekend. Nice setting. Beautiful area. Generous amenities and excellent local info/guides. Our family of 5 (3 teens) would definitely recommend!

  • What an adorable little house. Just right, with a wonderful screened in sitting and eating area, two decks, chairs and rockers all around...... Close to everything too. It’s a good central spot if here on vacation

    Ami2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Julie and Russell’s cabin was perfect for our weekend away. The short drive to Tanglewood made the location ideal. The space was cozy with six adults, but we definitely had enough room. The screened in porch was perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

    Grace2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really sweet cabin with a great screened porch. Beautiful lake for kayaking. Hosts were super responsive and friendly. They were welcoming of the dog too. I would recommend it to a friend.

  • What a gorgeous cabin. Super comfy and stylish and the area is so peaceful.

    Moriah2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • The place is very nice! It is a simple, not large but also not too small, home at a great price! They stock the house with all the little amenities you might need (e.g. towels, games, bbq grill, kitchen utensils, tennis rackets, to name a few) as well as providing many flyers, leaflets and maps for things to do and places to go in the Berkshires! They responded very quickly and were very helpful. Also, we loved that they provide 2 kayaks, 2 life jackets and 2 paddles that can be used at the lake only a 2 minute walk from the house! (Can be seen from the house!). It is on a nice quiet and tree filled side road and is perfect for families! We came with our 4 month old baby :-) We plan on coming back next year!

  • Merry's home is full of charm and located in a beautiful area of the Berkshires. My dog and I had a wonderful stay.

    Jodie2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Merry's 1820's farmhouse is a big ,furnished period- style 'real home of Merry'... The property setting is very pretty...Merry has 3 adorable dogs and 4 cats that live indoors a lot.. Outside are free range ducks and hens.... One gets a sense of an earlier historical period, and a sense of a small -style of farmlet. Merry, her partner Guy, and the 'house and farm animals' all help you feel accepted... The bed was comfortable, aling with the rest if the house, (which is shared) and there were some good local tips, lovely fall leaf-peaking, and gregarious vibes...

    Robert2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Country setting with helpful hosts and affectionate Labrador dogs and 2 cats and visiting ducks all well behaved.

    Robert2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • I will return. It was lovely.

    Joanna2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Merry is very informal and welcoming. You need to be comfortable with a menagerie of dogs, cats, ducks and chickens. Given that, a magical setting.

    Robin2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Merry’s place is wonderful! The view on top of the hill is amazing. At night, there’s a constellation of fireflies with the soundtrack of grey frogs and ducks. The home has so much character and history as well, being built in the early 19th century. Not to mention, merry is a warm and inviting host! Will be coming back.

Beautiful but comfortable home in the country, 95 private acres , skiing nearby. But you’ll probably never want to leave this incredible space!
Centrally located between the Berkshires and Saratoga area, this extremely private home offers peace and quiet, swimming in a 20’x40’ inground pool, tennis court, ample wooded areas for hiking. A short drive to Williamstown, Tanglewood, SPAC, Saratoga Race Track, Lebanon Valley, Hudson, Albany. The space is huge, a great room with wood burning fireplace, private patio with gas grill.beautifully furnished with antiques and art, it is very comfortable, a place where you can put your feet up on the coffee table!!!There is a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast foods provided, a full modern bath, a separate loft bedroom with double tall post bed (very romantic, yet comfortable!), and several sofas for lounging or napping.

  • Christine was super hospitable and lightening fast in her responses. The place was very unique and roomy. Fireplace and the grounds were a bonus!

  • Big, unique and spacious place, full of antiques and interesting decor. Great location near the Berkshires. The unit, with its own private entrance, is part of the main property, divided by doors with curtains, still with full privacy. Fully equipped kitchen with breakfast ingredients included. Be advised that not all cellphone carriers have reception in this area.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stargazer Farm. The space was peaceful and quiet. We loved the eclectic decor, strolling the property, the comfortable bed- everything was perfect!

  • If you're looking for a quiet place in NY, don't look further. Christine's Star Gazer Farm in East Nassau is so cool. Her colorful, quirky collection of antiques, the tennis court, swimming pool, grill and their 95 private acres... We loved it.

    Malou2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Christine's place. You are staying in a portion of her house that is separate from her living quarters. The place is full of interesting furniture and artwork. The pool was amazing- nice and warm and quite large. My only complaint was that the AC was not working very well, so it was pretty warm at night especially since the bed is on a lofted mezzanine landing. The sofas in the living room are very comfortable. Would definitely recommend, the country setting is very charming and its a quick drive to the Berkshires.

    Bryan2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Star Gazer farm is unique and beautiful. Staying here creates an experience worth having — fueled by the one of a kind home, the grounds, the quiet. Christine’s home is filled with incredible antiques that you will enjoy surrounding yourself with. Even my teenage son appreciated it all! Christine was welcoming and friendly. I especially appreciated her stocking the fridge with eggs, butter, etc. And asking me in advance what kind of milk I wanted! A very special place.

    Eve2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This property typifies why I love AirBnb. The house is filled with interesting art, vintage books and exquisite furniture. The owner allows you to hike their 90+ acres of farm and woodland with a golf cart. The pool is private, well maintained and simply stunning. Beds and sofas were comfy and bathroom and kitchen were very clean. You are 30 minutes from all Berkshires attractions. We will be coming back!

We are offering the Sunny Duplex at a special rate of $2,000 per month for a stay of at least six weeks in April and May. The property has not been occupied during the epidemic and can be a safe refuge. Send us an inquiry. Charming big vintage apartment for five in an old boarding house from 1900. It's a Greek Revival house on a country lane at the foot of the Berkshires. Bedrooms downstairs and up, living room, full kitchen and bath, as well as lawn and backyard.
The Sunny Duplex has historic character, a chance to connect with nature, and convenient reach to the local sights. It's notable for excellent amenities, privacy for guests, and a good kitchen for cooking. Our location is in New York, right on the border of the Berkshires. You're just 20 minutes away from Tanglewood, Kripalu Yoga Center and Jiminy Peak Ski. We're a great hub, but please make sure that you approve of our location and love the great value it offers before you book. The base price is for two people, and we don't charge a cleaning fee. We keep our costs trimmed by charging $15 to cover the preparation for every additional person (except for kids little enough to be in a crib). There is not much modern about the Sunny Duplex but you'll find countryside, comfort, great access, and a great deal of charm too.
Our neighborhood used to be the center of town back when the old water mills down the street were in operation; now the modern town center with bank, post office and restaurants, is about 2 miles away. There are a handful of historic houses on our road. We live right across the way and can greet you, hand over your keys, and show you around when you arrive. You'll have front and back lockable doors and space for parking in your private driveway. We can also provide good local recommendations and are available in the event of any problem. The duplex at the old boarding house is a great retreat both in summer and winter, whether you are looking for a cozy break or search for culture and action. It's perfectly positioned for taking advantage of the Berkshires, including so much fine music, theater, food, art and natural beauty that you can't possibly do it all justice no matter how hard you try. Tanglewood is about 20 minutes away, and so is the Kripalu Yoga Center. There is a swift, lovely route to get to both of those from here, through pasture and forest, and ending with a wonderful view of the Stockbridge Bowl. In the winter, ski trails at Jiminy Peak or Bousquet are less than a half hour away, and Butternut is just a little farther. Hiking trails and conservancies are everywhere. In the springtime, it's great to see all the leafy woods and so many gardens emerge. It's locavore and farmer's market heaven in the summertime and fall. A treat hidden nearby is Queechy Lake, with lifeguard and sandy shore, one of the cleanest and most delicious lakes in New York state. There's also a nice local park in town, with two nice tennis courts. Check out our online guidebook for a full listing of the places we love most around here for visit or a meal. There are seven fine art museums, eight theater companies, three Shaker villages and two orchestral venues within an hour's radius.
  • As advertised- quaint and clean with responsive (host) communication. Our family had a wonderful stay!

  • Our stay at the Old Boarding House was great! Very accurate description of the home and location. The house was super clean and very inviting, and the extra touches (great tea and coffee selections!) were very appreciated! The beds were super comfortable and although we did not make much use of it aside from the coffee-maker, the kitchen was well-stocked with cookware, dishes and cooking necessities. Communication with the host was quick and easy and they made us feel welcome. I'd definitely recommend staying at this house when in the area. Thank you for a nice stay!

    Amy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was nice and cozy and perfect for a weekend getaway! There were special touches such as fresh fruit, coffee, pasta and even Advil that we never received at other rentals which made this place stand out. Easy location and only 20 minutes to jiminy peak made this the perfect spot for us. The owners were very fast to reply. The house was very clean and we loved the wood burning stove! We had a blast and will definitely be back in the future!

    Tracey2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay here and it was just as great the second time as the first. The house warms up quickly, bathroom is clean, nice shower, comfortable beds (including the sofa bed). The hosts are very responsive, but also there was nothing we needed because everything was clear and easy to manage. It's nice that the hosts provide coffee and some cooking items.

  • The romantic, private road that leads you to Mary's house is a modest prelude to the fairy-tale-like like setting that awaits you at this clean, well-equipped, and cozy property. Kayaking, canoeing, peddle boating, SUPing or making s'mores at the fire pit are all options available to Mary's guests. The pastoral surroundings of the quiet private lake community, where the house is nestled, is an extra bonus for anyone who wants to soak up the majestic fall colors of the Berkshires. Thank you for having us, Mary! We hope to be back soon.

    Gergo2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Upon arrival Mary left us a nice welcome package for breakfast and her favorite wine. The location is perfect for a fall getaway right on the lake with a fireplace outside to enjoy the night. The location is next to fun towns Lennox and Pittsfield with options for dinner and enjoying the night out. There is a winery close by and a glass blowing studio. It’s the perfect location for indoor and outdoor options. Overall a great play to stay.

  • Amazing house, even better host! Had such a serene and lovely weekend here. Such a nice getaway from the city. The lake front was gorgeous. The house was sparking clean, and had everything we needed. Mary, the host, was so thoughtful. She really went above and beyond to make sure this was a good stay. Before booking I had mentioned I was really looking forward to a lake side camp fire. She left marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate and all the necessities for great s’mores.

    Suzy2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's house was by far the most pleasant experience we've had with airbnb - partly because she is such a thoughtful and accommodating host, and also because the house & location is just simply beautiful. The house is well stocked with everything you need - Mary even went out of her way to leave a generous welcome basket for us and stocked the fridge with breakfast items & local goodies! The house and the location cannot be beat. It's tucked away just enough that you have the privacy and serenity you need to feel relaxed, but it's close to many towns, restaurants and activities when you want to get out of the house. The lake views from almost every room in the house are breathtaking. Waking up and watching the sunrise over the lake each morning was the best part of the trip - we cannot wait to come back.

    Jaime2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • House is amazing. The view of the lake is incredible. Felt like being at camp.

    Jarad2019-08-25T00:00:00Z

  • Lawrence's place is clean and comfortable. Sitting in the kitchen, you'll feel like you are on a riverboat with water on all sides, it's a beautiful view.

    Mary2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Full disclosure, I've known and respected Lawrence (aka Ding, we all had nicknames) for nearly 60 years, even though I haven't resided in Athens for the last 45. For me, Athens is a magical little town on a magical river, the mighty Hudson. Ding's AirBnB just happens to be a perfect place for a "base camp" if you want to explore the area or just hang out. Yes, it started life as a mobile home but it's obviously been upgraded and turned into an extremely comfortable dwelling. It's clean and very well kept, parking is ample and easy, beds & living room are comfortable and access to Athens is just a step out the door. The BEST part for us at Ding's Place; the kitchen seems to hover right over the river, our coffee time lasted longer than normal because we just sat & watched the river flow. The only way you could possibly get closer to the water would be by hopping on a boat or diving in. Athens is a true upstate river town, small and proud, with almost no change in population in the last 100 years, see the Wiki link below. The region is loaded with history as well, Frederic Church's Olana is across the river right at the other end of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and Woodstock is 25 miles away. Athens is walkable and unbelievably quiet, with a PILE of Victorian houses ESPECIALLY on tree lined South Franklin Street, go to Google maps street view for a virtual tour then reserve Ding's place. You will not be disappointed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens_(village),_New_York

As you can see, we are very centrally located!
  • What a great find! The Cabin was not only super comfortable, it was very beautiful and the perfect size for a couple and our small frenchies! The heated floors are everything and the bath soap left for us was awesome. We skiied Jiminy Peak (30 min drive) and explored the unique town of Hudson, NY (40 min drive). The downtown area of Chatham is only 15 min and super cute - The Peoples Pub makes the best brussel sprouts I've ever had and Chatham Brewery is dog frinedly :) We'll definitely be back to the cabin for next ski season - it was relaxing and beautiful!

  • This cabin is truly one of a kind. It's remote, but still close enough to go hiking, have dinner, etc. The kitchen is one of dreams, the king size bed and the the incredible view leave little to be desired. Not to mention waking up to the sunrise over those trees on a snow blanketed morning. Sparkling clean, and filled with all the needs to make one feel at home for a few days it was the perfect spot for us and our furbaby. Erika and David were also quick to respond to anything we needed. We hope to be back soon!

  • Erika and David are lovely hosts and were very responsive and friendly. The cabin is just gorgeous and beautifully decorated ( super inspiring design, nicely heated flooring). If you are after a weekend getaway in the woods than this is the spot. The cabin is 20 mins drive to most close by villages ( Chatham, around 30 to Hudson). It is overlooking a beautiful lake which was frozen at the time of my visit. The main cabin is within sight, nonetheless I was by myself for my stay as the hosts weren’t around. For an extra pet fee charge I was very happy to be able to bring my cat along. On my last day I was sitting enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch, taking in the views and saw a herd of deer roaming around the land opposite the property. A beautiful way to wrap up a beautiful relaxing weekend. Check out their restaurant and cultural recommendations on Airbnb I really enjoyed Bartlett house in Ghent for breakfast. I Highly recommend staying at Erika and David’s property and I look forward to visiting again to perhaps try it out in a different season sometime.

  • This was the perfect remote cabin to get away from the city. It had everything we could have wanted. Beautiful kitchen, bathroom, and living space. We never wanted to leave.

  • This space is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The design choices, kitchen, bathroom and beautiful king bed were exactly what my wife and I needed after a long week of travel. Special touches included delicious welcome chocolate, great assortment of tea, full use of an incredibly fun kitchen and a very beautiful shower with amazing natural soaps. I definitely recommend this place for couples traveling with small dogs who care about staying in beautifully curated spaces. Awesome stay.

  • Stay here if you’re looking for a place to disconnect from life and relax! Cozy cabin with views of a pond and wildlife in the backyard.

  • This cabin in the woods really is truly nothing short of magical! It was the perfect place for a peaceful long weekend getaway for us and our dog. The place is beautifully decorated, totally cozy, and has everything you might need in terms of amenities. A short drive away from grocery stores, etc., and about 40 minutes to all that Hudson has to offer. Would love to come back in warmer months to enjoy the front porch and hiking trails!

Light-filled cottage on a hill near Tanglewood surrounded by open fields and beautiful gardens.
We are located on the border of The Berkshires, MA and Columbia County, NY. The area boasts great views, small family-run farms, orchards, and rolling hills. You’ll love our place set in a four season area with things to do for all tastes. Shop and dine in nearby Lenox, West Stockbridge or Chatham, NY. The town of Hudson is an easy 1/2 h drive. Enjoy world famous cultural events at Tanglewood (only 15 minutes away), Jacob's Pillow and other Berkshire Valley gems. In the summer, hike mountain ridges or go for a swim in nearby Queechy Lake. Have fun skiing in the winter. We are close to four ski resorts (Catamount, Butternut, Jiminy Peak and Bousquet). Our cottage is cozy and light-filled on a quiet road surrounded by open fields. It is the guesthouse on our property, but is private and separate from the main house. The bedroom has a full bed, and the common area has two twin-sized day beds. There is a working woodburning stove, and an open kitchen. The place is ideal for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and we are happy to have your pet. Please note that there will be an extra $50 one time charge for bringing any animal ( added to regular cleaning charge)
15 min drive to Kripalu and Tanglewood 30 min to Hudson ,NY
  • We had a wonderful experience. The cottage is charming, the view calming and the quiet setting was just what we needed after spending the day out with family at the local attractions in the Berkshires (all within close proximity). Excellent host accommodations!

  • Stayed here for 2 nights with some friends. It was a great cozy little cabin. We were able to fit 4 of us and a baby, and kept plenty warm on some cold November nights. It's a small space, but very self-sufficient. Even made a dinner there one night. We loved the secluded nature of it - being down a dirt road - which is our style. Thanks for the great stay!

  • This is a gem of a cabin overlooking rolling hillside! It it bright and immaculate with big windows overlooking the meadow and yet diminutive in its cozy warmth. You share property with the host in the main house but the cottage is separated so that you feel quite alone. Hostess Galina was so easy to work with. She welcomed us with my sisters dog and even leant him a toy after he popped the plastic ball her sweet dog pushka was playing with. (I have to find that toy because he adored it) My sister, my father and I met for a weekend reunion and it could not have been nicer. The views are stunning, the cottage is clean and perfectly designed for easy cozy comfort. It was spotless and so well organized. The place is small so don’t plan major cooking but it’s just right for breakfasts, prepping, picnic lunches or making a simple dinner (just 2 stove burners and mini fridge). But with this small size the hosts have left out nothing. There are places to stretch on the floor, hang out and talk around the fireplace, sleep late and lazy, or share a meal together around the little table for 4. It was close to amazing hiking paths (one day we did Beebe forest and today we tried Bear Forest Where there is a perfect walk around Benedict lake and a steeper hike to a lookout along Appalachian trail). We enjoyed dinner at Rouge in West Stockbridge and got groceries to take back to the city at Guidos (so awesome) There was yummy, not-too-sweet, ice cream (SOCO) in Great Barrington, and amazing cappuccino in town as well;plus lovely shops. What more could one ask for in a weekend away with sister and Papa?! Thank you again.

  • Galina's place is beautiful! It truly has everything you need, and we didn't want to leave!

  • This was the perfect cottage for a weekend in the Berkshires. We hope to return one day soon!

  • Great getaway in a beautiful area! We loved spending a Fall weekend here and enjoying the nearby towns. Highly recommend!

    Alex2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Galina’s place. The place was much bigger than expected for being a 1 bedroom and slept 3 of us comfortably. I would definitely stay at Galina’s place again if traveling to the Berkshires.
