Dumfries and Galloway dark skies park is a stunning location to get away from it all. Based on our eco friendly off grid small holding, the yurt is solar powered and has a wood burning stove, shower room and composting toilet. The yurt has a double bed and three singles (all with down duvets) so sleeps 4 x1 or 1x2 and 3x1 we don't charge a cleaning fee, so what you see is what you pay!! The chemical free, DIY hottub is very private and for the exclusive use of our guests.
Galloway yurts is a solar powered traditional mongolian yurt situated in our meadow on our off grid sustainable small holding near Kirkcowan, south west Scotland. warm, private, comfortable and self contained, it is an ideal place to kick back and get back to nature. The yurt has a gas hob and a well equipped cooking area, a wood burning stove and 12vt power for lighting and charging phones and tablets. One double bed and three bunks all made up and ready to go, there is a shower room and composting toilet, also a barbecue and picnic bench for summer out side cooking and eating, and an outside fireplace for keeping warm whilst stargazing! the first load of Wood for the stove is free through the winter months and from spring to autumn can be purchased from us (but please feel free to bring your own), please bring your own charcoal and torch. The yurt has fantastic views all round and has an open aspect, perfect for viewing the night sky and watching the sunset, you may share the meadow with sheep and sometimes horses, if you want the horses out of the field this is not a problem we are happy to move them. Additional nights are £5.00 per night for the wood. please contact us to book the hottub and for more information

  • We had an amazing time in the yurt. We didnt want to leave! Alison and Brett are fantastic hosts, always available to help if need be and fast at replying. The yurt is truly magical, and the countryside area it is in, is so calming. All the facilities were great, and fire in the yurt was extremely toasty! If you have the chance definitely go and stay here So much to do and overall a fantastic experience!

  • Something we looked out for when choosing a air BnB was being able to get to it without a car yet still being in the depths of nature ! Which is definitely possible through bus + taxi! Its even a magical stay even when all there is is chilling inside of the yurt during a storm! All you need is friends, wine and games! We thoroughly enjoyed cooking and dancing in the yurt, would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of booking. Alison is the most loveliest host, thank you !xxx

  • Wonderful place away, the hot tub was fab and the yurt really cosy and comfy even in a storm.

  • Amazing experience in a perfect location. The Yurt is beautiful and warm, even during storm Ciara we were really cosy. The outdoor hut tub is definitely worth the effort, it’s lovely and cosy in a tranquil setting. We weren’t very lucky with the weather but it didn’t hamper our trip and on the final night we had clear skies. We’ve never seen so many stars. Lovely welcoming host. We’ll definitely return.

Couldn't have asked for a more amazing time, from the sunsets/rises to the amazing hot tub and the sustainability of the whole yurt. All topped up with excellent hosts. The Gardeners Cottage is set within the walled gardens of Corvisel House, built by Rear Admiral John McKerlie in 1829. We have restored the cottage in a vintage, quirky style with Donegal & Harris tweed soft furnishings & floral accents to reflect the glorious garden outside! It's located at the edge of Newton Stewart so very handy for evening strolls to the eateries in town. You can take walks in our small forest from the courtyard & hang out in the walled garden - green fingers are welcomed!!
The cottage is a cosy & quirky home with lots of interesting bits & bobs artfully displayed throughout. There is a super king bed in the courtyard bedroom & a double in the garden bedroom (this room is also roadside). We can easily add a single bed if a twin is required for guests, just ask! There is no dishwasher, however a lovely window to look out of when doing the dishes...or even better just treat yourself to a meal out in town (4min walk). There are a plentiful supply of books to snuggle up with & we're totally happy for you to potter about in the walled garden of gardening is your thing!
  • Beautiful and stylish cottage! Great location for local amenities and for getting out to explore with lots of walk a short drive away. Cottage was sparkling clean and the beds were super comfy! Lovely hosts and nothing was too much trouble! Will definitely be back!

The location is ideal for walks & to discover the South West part of Scotland.. There are pubs, restaurants & supermarkets within walking distance.. But we ate in as the kitchen is equipped with everything you need.. Just add ingredients!! Thank you Cathy for everything we will see you again..xx

  • The cottage was great, perfect for winding down in the evenings after long walks. It was clean and tidy and didn't want to leave! Beautiful place.

  • We were met by Mark, who was very hospitable and showed us around. The cottage was super clean; spacious yet cosy, and beautifully appointed. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and the beds were very comfy. The home made jam was a welcome bonus! The cottage was close to many lovely places to visit including the red deer range and red kite feeding, the dark skies park and beaches. We loved our stay there.

    Sam2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely wee cottage, close enough to shops and pubs but with the feeling of being remote as it's on farmland. We had a lovely few nights herewith our 10 month old and really enjoyed switching off and cooking in the big kitchen. There were lots of good walks close by. The hosts were very welcoming and prompt with any communication. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

    Emma2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a tastefully furnished and decorated byre conversion. The layout is all on a single level along the length of the building meaning young kids can nap or sleep at the far end without being disturbed from the living room/kitchen. The kitchen and living room are spacious with plenty of seating for a family or group get together. We had a lovely stay here.

    Keith2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • I think there is probably something for everyone here. We are a family of four plus a dog, with the kids being 7 and 2 years old. We very much enjoyed biking at Galloway forest park and the beaches on the sunny Autumn days. The cottage is a perfect base to explore from and warm and comfortable which is good as it was frosty outside! The stars were spectacular on the clear nights. The family are very welcoming and full of ideas, it is obvious they have opened their doors for many years. The goodies on arrival were really special and thoughtful and shows how much they care you enjoy your time there.

  • The cottage was exactly as described and immaculately clean. We stayed over New year and were thrilled to find a Christmas tree and assortment of Christmas nibbles on check in!! Linda was great with communication and I couldn’t recommend this properly more. The only bit we missed was the balcony because it was too cold to sit out but I can imagine this would be amazing in the Summer. The location is a great base to explore the South West coast of Scotland from. Highly recommended!!

    Debbie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is spotless and comfortable. Everything you need is there. Love the little touches like milk tea etc. Plenty of places to go in the area and walking distance for the town. Beautiful view from the veranda at the back. Did not want to leave.

  • Lovely comfortable house with fabulous location overlooking the river.

    Rona2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Linda's house. It's in a great location with a fantastic view over the River Cree, and a balcony to sit and drink wine. We enjoyed watching the guys fishing in the river although we're not sure if they caught anything!. Inside, the house was pretty spotless - we were scared in case we spilt anything on the cream carpets! And the bathroom and bedrooms were well appointed with a very comfortable bed. Location is good - close to the town centre and with on-street parking right outside. It was a great base for us to explore Galloway and go to the Wigtown Book Festival. A really nice house and we would recommend it.

    Duncan2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location on the river, lovely sitting out on the balcony in the evenings. House equipped with everything we need and was a short walk to the town and supermarkets. Great base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. House was very clean and Linda was extremely helpful when needed.

  • It is exactly as described, took me 8 minutes to walk to the town cinema. A couple of great additions to the town are the Chinese and Indian restaurants. Great access from the home to Glentrool. Was just disappointed that the weather did not allow me to sit outside overlooking the river.

South wing en suite bedrooms of Machermore Castle. This is a self check in and check out facility. We have 3 freshly renovated en suite bedrooms in the ground floor of the South wing . They are disabled access compliant with disabled showers. The bedrooms face the South lawn offering views towards the valley and river.
My place has great views, family-friendly activities, restaurants and dining close by. You’ll love my place because of the warmth, coziness and the comfy bed . My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts, business travellers and families (with kids). The estate is private, so you will be surrounded by lawns, forests and valleys with peace and tranquility.
Newton Stewart and the surrounding area is full of nice bars and restaurants. There is plenty to do especially for the outdoors types such as hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing etc. The location is perfect and very accessible being just off the A75.
  • Great location, an impressive building and all you need for a comfortable stay. We had a great time at the castle. I strongly reccommend this place.

Accommodation itself is clean and tidy. Room has a little kettle and cups with tea etc provided. Lovely bed with fresh crisp linen. The photos are a good representation of what you are getting. The bathroom may be slightly dated but it’s lovely and clean, that’s all that matters!

Hawthorn Cottage is in an unspoilt peaceful location with superb picture window views of the Galloway hills. The area has abundant wildlife which can often be seen from the cottage. There is ample parking and an enclosed garden. The A75 is two miles away giving easy access to beaches, golf courses and the Galloway Forest Park, Britain's first designated Dark Skies Park. A mountain bike network is very close by at Kirroughtree. All amenities are 3 miles away in the local town of Newton Stewart.
Hawthorn Cottage is a traditional cottage built in 1900 for farm workers when Barraer was a working dairy farm. The cottage has been tastefully modernised as a holiday destination but has kept its traditional rural appeal, It is located on the farm with superb views of the Galloway hills. Farming is still carried on at Barraer Farm with cattle and sheep grazing on the surrounding 400 hundred acre farm. The area has abundant wildlife which can often be seen from the cottage and on various walks on and around the farm.
  • A great value cottage with amazing views and very friendly host. Very thoughtful host Helen left a delicious homemade cake with a nice card for me in the kitchen on arrival. Also a small but pleasant detail was the amazing variety of birds at the bird feeder outside the kitchen window. I would recommend this AirBnB.

    Jamie2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Hawthorn Cottage. The facilities are spot on, beds super comfy, the house was very clean and the host was extremely friendly. Helen even took the time to greet us with a homemade cake! The stand out feature of the cottage in our opinion, is the location. The views from the house through the picture window of distant mountains are simply outstanding! The cottage is in a very preaceful location, yet only a few miles from all the amenities you need. Very happy to recommend to all.

    Neal2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great house, a little remote but exactly what we wanted. Great views especially at night. Loved the cows in the field over the road, they kept us amused. The loch was a great benefit although we left the fish in for the next people!

    Campbell2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I write my response in Dutch. Let Google translate it. We had a wonderful week in Helen's house. We have seen a lot of the area, both the coast and a high mountain and gardens. We especially appreciated the view, so we could see what the weather was like that day. It was the first thing we looked at in the morning and the last thing we saw in the evening and it was always different. We were there in June, so nice and long light. It was also a wonderfully large window and no one came by, was lying next to the road to Helen's farm. For the rest, it was a great house that particularly stood out by the small details. Such as everywhere a trash can, a fireplace in the room, wooden storage bins for bread, chairs that are ready outside and so on. And a tasty home-made cake as a welcome. It was all a bit classic and therefore nice. The only thing that bothered me a bit were the two steps to the living room and bedroom. At night I fell off once at a toilet visit. They are also lined, no clear distinction between the steps. A modest night light in the corridor would be a very good addition. And the beds are short, so less suitable for tall people. Maartje

    Maartje2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • An oasis of calm. I normally sleep with earplugs because every little noise wakes me up but at Helen's place I didn't need them. Never slept better in my life! A fantastic little cottage with everything you need. We watched the cows graze in the field across the road every day. Will be sure to come back again. Thank you Helen!

Very quiet and peaceful location makes staying in this house a joy for those wishing to visit beautiful Dumfries and Galloway and specifically Wigtown, Scotland's book town. Nice clean double room with lovely views and superb kitchen on offer
My home is in a very quiet and lovely location, a mile outside Wigtown, Scotland's book town. The house itself has an excellent kitchen and the room is spacious. The owner is easy going and willing to help wherever he can (That's me, I am describing!)
Very friendly local folks - I am originally from the West Midlands in England so I think I can comment!
  • The house is great, the bed is equipped with a heating blanket, which is great for a stay in January, Joe is very nice and his dog adorable, and the region is splendid. In great stay!

    Julie2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed a night at Joe's place whilst on a cycling tour of Dumfries and Galloway. It was perfect for the purpose and Joe made the process of finding the house, checking in etc. very easy. The room was very clean and comfortable. Joe gave me a good recommendation for a local place to get an evening meal (The Bladnoch Inn). I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

    Simon2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Joe is a very relaxed, welcoming and trusting host. We had a very pleasant stay in his home in a great location in the Machars. The double bed is comfortable, the shower, which is in the bath, has amazingly good water pressure and plenty of hot water so no trouble rinsing out the shampoo! The kitchen is clean and seems well equipped, although we didn't cook during our stay.

    Iona2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy home! Lovely views, and it’s close to Wigtown, so it made an easy trip. Great host, too!

    Pmbeck20032019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Clean and really affordable! Lovely views of the Galloway Hills! If using public transport, you can 'hail and ride' in the area, so the bus stops right at the end of the road. (Tip - if you walk to the right at the end of the road to the interchange, you can catch additional buses that skip Wigtown!)

    Pov2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • My stay in Wigtown at Joe’s space was wonderful. Joe was consistently a kind, warm, thoughtful host. He even made sure I was able to get to and from the train and Wigtown- which much to my surprise wasn’t as close as I thought, but I was so grateful for the help there- it felt like he went above and beyond in that. The space was clean and welcoming and warm. There was everything I needed provided and a grocery store not too far away. The location was perfect for me, I didn’t have a car but I found I loved the walk to town and in nature. And for my respite trip it was all perfect. The area is gorgeous, gentle but rich. I would definitely recommend a stay in Wigtown with Joe and would most definitely look to staying there again on my next journey to Scotland. Thank you again, Joe!

  • Stayed here for my wife's 40th with our 2 young children. Perfect base to explore Galloway Forest Park. Really thoughtful host who made the house very welcoming, including pumpkins to carve for the kids (Halloween). It's a big house but the heating is really effective so always felt cosy. The house is well kitted out, a bike store and the hot tub is great. We were lucky with the weather and able to see the stars and milky way really clearly from the garden. Thinking of coming back with some friends or family.

  • Clean and well presented lodge surrounded with great amenities and walks around the lochs for the family. This is a good central location to visit the local area or just relax on the deck taking in the fresh air and views. The park has lots to do for both young and old with a great little pub and restaurant literally on the doorstep.

  • Great accommodation, well equipped and very cosy. Please be aware that actual location is 7 miles away from what Airbnb shows on the map.

  • We enjoyed a lovely few days at White Lodge, Comfortable lodge with great amenities and beautiful views. There is so much to do, unfortunately the pool was not in use due the temperature as the weather had been cold before we arrived. Fortunately we had 3 days of great weather, although the pool was not up to correct temperatures for us to use. I would recommend the walks we done the green and the blue, both beautiful. The staff in the pub where really helpful especially Paul. Will definitely return.

  • Margaret was a great host, the lodge has everything you need and is located in a lovely caravan park with brilliant facilities. My 10 year old son and I did the air riffle shooting which was fantastic fun. Can't wait to go back and try pony trekking next time.

  • We loved our stay at the Snug. It was so cosy and warm, perfect for us and our two dogs. It was lovely to have all the farm animals around and to have some beautiful walks on the doorstep. Thank you Wendy!

  • Such a beautiful location with plenty to do, very peaceful. The cottage was perfect with everything you need and a very comfy bed. Wendy was very thoughtful and when we arrived there was a birthday card and prosecco for my partners birthday, it was lovely. Will definitely be back.

  • A beautiful little snug with everything you need, some food provided to get you by and plenty of games, with towels and bedding it was lovely. The area was amazing and not too far from a nearby town to get anything you need and amazing walks. The animals were so cute and we felt very private even though you are attached to the main house. An amazing getaway, would recommend to all, nothing bad to say!

    Jess2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely spot in the forest. It was very muddy when we stayed in winter, which doesn’t bother us, but might bother others. Our kids loved seeing the animals wandering around. We would definitely stay again.

  • Lovely wee place. Wendy left clear directions and the place was warm and welcoming with milk for a brew, some tablet and oatcakes. Fantastic dark skies and we had a crisp clear night with amazing views of the stars. Ideal stay if you want to visit the Galloway forest park.

It's within walking distance to the town for shopping eating out , hotels , pubs . Lots of outdoor activities golfing , fishing , forest walks cycling and touring
Newton Stewart is a good base for all surrounding attractions You wish to visit and half an hours drive away from ferry to Ireland
  • The cottage was an excellent size for 4 people. The living room space, kitchen, and outdoor patio were lovely. Linda had the place decorated nicely for Christmas, including a tree! This was such a welcome surprise. We walked to 2 pubs nearby. We brought in our own food to cook. The kitchen was well equipped with all the amenities we needed. We travelled to Galloway Park for a hike one day and spent the other day driving to nearby stone circles. Overall it was a superb experience!

    Sarah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy house, comfortable lounge and beds. Very clean, kitchen very well stocked. The balcony onto the Cree is lovely and looking out on the water so restful. Would definitely go back

  • Delightful cottage overlooking the river in a perfect location, handy for the town and local amenities

    Annie2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. The location is perfect for exploring Galloway, and a really comfortable place to come back to after a day out whatever the weather. We loved the river view and spotting the anglers!

    Siobhan2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage , spotlessly clean, great spot, perfect view of the river.

    Richard2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house, very clean with modern bright furnishings. Very bright light carpets which made the house seem spacious. The balcony was lovely overlooking the River Cree which got the sun in the morning. Kitchen is modern and very well equipped but no dishwasher which didn’t bother us. The house is very central to Newton Stewart and just a few minutes walk into the town centre and all facilities. The neighbours are nice too. One kind neighbour offered to give us a lift and back to a local nature area as we didn’t have a car. We sadly had to decline as we were only here for the Traditional Music Festival. I would definitely recommend this house and also the music festival as it was superb!

    Robbie2019-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 4 day break staying at this cottage. Unusually warm and sunny weather for late April helped of course, but the cottage is ideally placed for getting to Galloway Forest Park and the coastline and countryside. The house itself is the cleanest holiday let we have stayed in and it seemed for the most part that everything had been newly renovated - kitchen, shower, boiler, furniture, and decoration. The kitchen was equipped well enough to actually live in the house permanently. There was a TV with a Now TV box - you can get a trial week subscription if you need to keep the kids' occupied in the evening. There was WiFi - although I guess the router was in the next door property (also owned by the landlady, Linda) as it the connection strength was weak away from adjoining wall. There is a balcony with table and chairs - it is facing northeast to the view over the river Cree, so was not the warmest place to sit while we were there, but the view is lovely. The view is of the Cree at the confluence with a small burn. It was a nice destination for an evening walk to get to the small beach in the middle. We ate out in two places in Newton Stewart - the Blackhorse Hotel (okay standard pub food) and No. 4 (really nice - early bird menu was great value). There is an Aldi, Sainsbury's and Co-op in the town. I recommend trips to the Kirroughtree Forest Visitor Centre, pay for a guided tour of the Red Deer Range further into the forest, Wigtown, and, if you have young kids, the Cream O'Galloway adventure park. The Hostess, Linda seemed nice although we only met her briefly as we turned up a bit too early for our check in, and she left us some fruitcake, milk, and tea/coffee supplies. She was very prompt with communications during the booking process.

Outside there is ample parking and at the side of the property there is a large lawned area. (The property is beside the road so small children would need to be supervised outside. ) Contact Sheila for more information availability.
Wigtownshire has loads to offer visitors. Beach or woodland walks. Cycling- see Kirroughtree Visitor centre and many other routes. Sites of historical interest. (Torhouse Stone Circle is a five minute walk from the cottage). Many interesting shops, cafes and pubs to explore in the vicinity. The scenery is beautiful and the welcome is warm.
  • Stayed at this amazing cottage over Christmas with my young family and had the best time. The cottage is so cosy and comfortable with absolutely everything that you could possibly need. Beautiful lounge to relax in, very spacious kitchen and large shower room. The cottage is situated in a remote location which was perfect for what we were after. Waking up to stunning views was amazing. Would thoroughly recommend staying here! Thanks Sheila

West Lodge is situated on the Machermore Castle private estate. Guests will be surrounded in tranquillity by mature woodland and large lawns. The lodge benefits from a large rear lawn and access to free fishing off the banks of the river Cree. The lodge has a fully fitted kitchen and furnishings making it a perfect peaceful getaway or holiday rental. Local highlights include fantastic cycling trails and hiking routes, out door pursuits, hunting, wildlife experiences and local historical sites.
Large roomy bedrooms with king size beds. Great sized kitchen and dining area. The lodge sits on the bank of the river Cree. Plenty of great views and lovely walks around the Machermore Castle estate.
Lots of hiking and cycling trails nearby. Nearest golf course is 3km from the property. The charming local town has plenty of bars, restaurants and places of interest.
  • It's a spacious, modern, clean accommodation in a lovely rural setting. A couple of bits needed finishing off in the en-suite bathroom, but nothing that affected the stay at all. A mirror in the bathrooms would be useful! Bedrooms are lovely, spacious and modern styled. Lounge can be a bit gloomy as there's no natural light, but the roomy kitchen that makes it open plan lets lot of light in. Be aware that the main image on the airbnb website gives the initial impression that the accommodation looks like its in the period property of the castle; it's not. It's in the bungalow 'lodge' at the back of the estate, near the castle. The property is great and could easily and comfortably sleep 8. Overall, very pleased and would recommend - just don't be misled by the picture of the castle...

  • We had a wonderful 3 night break in Sharon's van. It was super comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Despite it being October and us having a mixture of weather, the van got cozy quickly and was a pleasure to spend time in. The site itself has heaps to do from golf to pony trecking. Whilst we ate at the bar one afternoon (delicious Sunday roast!) we spent most our time away from the site enjoying some local hikes and bike rides. We went to the mull of Galloway which was great to. I really recommend Sharon's van for a short break - I hope to get back soon!

  • We had a wonderful time at your place. Everything was sparkling clean. The bedrooms were very cosy. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook a nice meal. The living room was spacious and we had some great evening meals with the family. The people at reception were very friendly and helpful. There is so much to do in the area. We visited the Mull Of Galloway, had a walk in the Galloway Forestry Park and we saw lots of Abbeys and historical sites in the Area.

  • What a find! We booked Neils place for a last minute birthday getaway. We were initially drawn to this cottage because of the Hot Tub but this place is so much more than that, from the little treats that Neil leaves you (Bacon, bread, eggs, milk & sweets) to the wonderful woodland setting, to the amazing pub right next door you will definitely have a relaxing stay here. I can highly recommend this cottage for a quiet getaway. Thanks Neil your hospitality is top notch. We hope to return soon. All the best Holly & David

  • Had a lovely night in cosy accommodation. Excellent communication and lovely little extra touches like fresh bread, milk, bacon and eggs. Hot tub was ready and waiting for us and the electric blanket was very welcome later when it got a bit chilly. Lots of information available for places to visit and walks round about. Lovely wee pub next door although we arrived too late to get food but had a drink. Excellent communication too.

The log burner is fabulous and the hamper left for us was a great touch. Also being greeted by Neil and his wee dog made the welcome that bit better! Will be staying again and would highly recommend

  • We stayed at Neil’s place for an overnight. The bread, eggs and bacons were a really nice touch, additionally he provided a Christmas hamper which I thought was very thoughtful. The cottage is in a great location to explore the National Park and the wood burner and hot tub are great additions to the cottage. Would highly recommend.

  • Had a great nights stay! Couldn’t fault it warm cosy room with and excellent shower. Very clean with tea and coffee amenities what more could you want? We arrived when it was dark so woke up to a beautiful view. Would definitely stay again.

  • We chose the McPherson room at Machermore Castle as our stay during the Wigtown Book Festival. We were so please at not only the value for money but also how good the location of this room was. I think some of the reviews ( especially the ones moaning about there not being a tv in the room etc) are very unfair. I didn’t find the check-in and location instructions difficult at all - it was all very clear and well explained. The value for money is great, the room was extremely clean and comfortable, the room was warm and the shower was amazing. We will be back!

  • The room is in a modern wing off the back of the beautiful little castle, and the drive up through the countryside is lovely. There was a little bit of noise leakage from the rooms of other guests but it wasn’t too noticeable, and nothing at night time! It’s a lovely place to stay if you’re exploring the galloway area - we picked it specifically for its proximity to Wigtown, the book town - well worth a visit. All in all, a lovely stay.

These are self check in and check out rooms.
  • Quick responses and Colin seems like a good bloke.

  • This room represented outstanding value for money! The room was clean, the bed very comfortable and the shower was the most powerful we have ever experienced! As described, this is a basic no-frills room but provides everything you need for an enjoyable stay in a peaceful location, yet accessible to many beautiful places to explore. As also mentioned by the host, there is a little noise from the apartment above, but this was not a problem and all went quiet by late evening. Interacted with one of the cleaning staff who was friendly and helpful. Hosts left easy to find contact details should we need anything, but the self check-in worked efficiently with no problems. Would happily recommend and also return again.

  • Our stay at Machermore Castle was amazing. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Our room wasn't located in the main part of the castle, but the view of the lawn was beautiful!

  • This castle is a fantastic place to stay. The grounds are great for walking with a lovely view of the river. The cafe was bang on for breakfast.

  • "Cheap and cheerful" - Colin described it to me as and he was right. Wifi was a bit temperamental and as advertised on the listing it could get a bit noisy but I had no issues sleeping and it was a great base for me to explore the area from!

  • Beautiful views, very peaceful and serene, beautiful castle with a gorgeous stone staircase that is perfect for photos. Parking is plentiful. We were escorted from the car park to the castle entrance by Jonsey the cat. The room was very clean and comfortable, with a view of the park. Colin responded quickly to any questions or needs we had. Renovations are being done and we can’t wait to come back and see them completed!

  • Unique stay in a castle. Newly renovated rooms. Lovely comfortable bed and large bathroom. Could actually turn around in the shower! Minimal decor, which suited us. Short drive to the town for breakfast, at Brew Ha Ha. Great cafe with good food choices.

  • I stayed at the castle for several weeks. It was just the rest that I needed and the grounds are so lovely. The room was brand new, modern, freshly painted. Bed comfortable. The cafe just opened. Staff very nice and helpful. It was a lovely stay and I’m so glad that I chose the castle.
