“(Le) Poisson Rouge is a multimedia art cabaret founded by musicians on the site of the historic Village Gate. Dedicated to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, film, theater, dance, and fine art, the venue’s mission is to revive the symbiotic relationship between art and revelry; to establish a creative asylum for both artists and audiences. As a professional musician myself, it is one of my favourite spots in the city, with high quality yet eclectic programming.”

Co-working Space

“There’s an equestrian theme at this lively restaurant and bar decorated with warm woods and horse silhouettes. It’s elegant but comfortable. Their famed Truffle Old-Fashioned really brings the earthy flavors with white-truffle butter, smoked portobello mushroom cordial, and a shave of truffle to top it off. It's absurdly luxurious and satisfying. After your old-fashioneds, head through the secret back door to Saxon + Parole’s sister agave bar, Ghost Donkey.”

Bar
“Unless you're literally blind drunk when you walk in, you'll immediately discern the source of this bar's nickname: the owner's formidable collection of china bowls and cups inscribed "Tom & Jerry," displayed on wooden shelves behind the long mahogany bar. The cat-and-mouse team makes a fitting namesake for this quirky yet homey bar. Despite headroom as huge and drafty as an aircraft hangar, the space feels as welcoming as any neighborhood tavern, with a cast of characters that includes Nolita Lolitas toting shopping bags, clean-cut college Joes, and slightly grizzled older men. — Jenifer Van Vleck”

Café
$$
“A nice, moderately priced place to eat (for the area). A breakfast of an omelette and coffee will still run around $18 with tip. But the atmosphere is relaxed and during the summer you can sit at one of the sidewalk tables that is on a nice quiet street rather than on 6th or 7th avenue where one would be inhaling car fumes. And there is a jazz/cabaret music scene there on the weekends. ”
