  • I highly recommend staying at this cozy cabin! It exceed my expectations! The view is amazing and the bed is super comfortable! The cabin and restrooms are very clean. I also liked that Skye replied to my messages right away and he even provided a guide at the cabin on things to do while in monument valley. I had a great experience and would totally stay here again!

  • This colorful cabin is so cute! I couldn’t believe how QUIET the community is. Sitting on the cabin porch chairs surrounded by red rock and staring up at the stars in pure silence was an absolute dream. Also, you can monument valley out in the distance which is so cool. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to experience quiet and time away from a big city.

  • I had the experience of sleeping under the perfect star of Monument Valley. It was really great. The bath and toilet are separate buildings, but clean, warm and comfortable! Wi-Fi didn't find what I specified, but it was nice to be able to spend some time in wonderful nature.

  • Skye’s place is in a wonderful location with an incredible view. Super close to Goulding’s to grab a meal and down the road from the entrance to Monument Valley park. It was very clean and had a big comfy bed. The wood fireplace kept us warm all night and the heater in the bathroom was definitely appreciated! The dogs and cat on the property were super sweet and ran up to say hello. I can not recommend this place enough. Thank you!

    Jenny2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is EPIC! The view is magical and stunning. We arrived at sunset and it was one of the most beautiful things we have ever witnessed. The hosts had warmed the place up for us when we arrived which was wonderful and there was the sweetest little cat to visit with while we stayed! Absolutely recommend the Turquoise Cabin!

  • Stayed when going to Monument Valley. The difficulty is that it's a bit tricky to get to, but there are great views around the house! The host is very friendly and cute dogs and cats will welcome you. But be careful if you like beautiful because there is no bath.

  • If you’re visiting monument valley you must stay here! We stayed in the cabin which was fantastic but Rosalyn also has a hogan you can book too which we wished we had known about before.. stay in that if it’s not already booked for an authentic experience! Breakfast was delicious, we also used the bbq for our dinner and sat around the fire pit and watched the sunset over monument valley. An unforgettable night. Thank you Rosalyn!

  • Favorite AirBNB experience thus far. Monument Valley is a special place and our stay and interactions with Rosalyn enriched that experience greatly! I would highly recommend this place to family and friends!

    Kevin2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Rosalyn's accommodation is wonderful! We absolutely LOVED our stay (too short). The view is sublime, the decoration of the room is magnificent, everything is clean, there is everything you need in the room (tea, hot chocolate, blankets, heating, sink) and you will be greeted by the adorable dogs and family cats. Unforgettable stay.

    Emilie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a joy and special place to stay at Rosalyn's in Monument Valley. I honestly can not say enough good things about the place and experience. You will have the most incredible views and warmest hospitality. Everything was very clean. Rosalyn serves a lovely breakfast as well. What a pleasure it was staying with her in Monument Valley.

    Morgan2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The three of us loved staying there! Amazing view, hospitable host, delicious breakfast, quiet place, and Navajo feel.

You’ll love my place because of our location (10 minute drive to the park) and being hosted by a local native family eager to share our culture and highlights of things to see n do in Monument Valley. Our hogan has a power outlet for lighting, charging devices, or to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea. Wifi is available, but not guaranteed-therefore not charged. We serve a small, free continental breakfast. Dinner is available upon request, please add to comments when reserving.
Our hogan stay is like camping. It has an earth floor, NO running water, NO showers, NO AC. It is not for everyone. But the beds are comfortable; we provide sheets & towels. The hogan does have a water igloo for drinking/washing; an electrical outlet for lighting, fan, & recharging gadgets. A BBQ grill is available for cooking indoor/outdoors. We serve a Free complimentary breakfast. An outdoor portable restroom is facilitated with motion-censored light about 15 feet from the hogan. Please turn off any lights, & close the door when checking out. Thank you! There may be random grazing sheep, horses, and cows in the vicinity as open grazing is allowed on Navajoland .
The Monuments will be your front yard, a prime location for sunrise! We are only ten minutes from the park; a great location for sunset. There are no street addresses, GPS/GOOGLE are NOT recommended Motorcycles are not recommended because of the dirt road, soft sand, etc.
  • We really enjoyed our time at Mother Earth Hogan. Great location, breakfast was delicious, Rosalyn was very sweet and accommodating.

    Alexandra2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Mother Earth Hogan is an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Rosalyn is an excellent host (she can cook you an amazing dinner if you request it ahead of time; highly recommended) and will explain the ins and outs of the Hogan. We visited in the winter and the Hogan was nice and toasty. Amazing view of Monument Valley from your door.

    Joseph (Joey)2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at this very unique dwelling! Rosalyn was very friendly and the food she prepared for dinner and breakfast was delicious! The hogan kept us warm throughout the cool night with its woodstove and warm beds.

    Derek2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience living in a Hogan. Rosalyns place is great. Rosalyn herself is nice and easygoing. And the dinner was a great taste of native cuisine.

  • My four friends and I were a little bit hesitant to stay in the Mother Earth Hogan on our final day of our long road trip, however, it turned out to be the best decision we have made. Not only were we greeted by Rosalyn and her daughter we were greeted by two of her cute dogs. We were fortunate enough to hear her story, her family’s, the history of the Mother Earth Hogan and the history of the Navajo nation and their beautiful traditions. We felt truly fortunate to be welcomed on Navajo land to be able to experience a little bit of their culture and way of life. There was a well lit charcoal stove in the home that kept us warm all night. We were greeted with a delicious traditional tea and fried bread with an assortment of toppings. This home was truly beautiful and heart warming! If you are ever passing through Kayenta or yet in Arizona I highly recommend stopping and staying at the Mother Earth Hogan.

    Paulina2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Might be my favorite Airbnb experience I’ve ever had. Such a wonderful experience, beautiful landscape, and wonderful host. Definitely make sure to ask for her dinner she prepares when you arrive. Truly unforgettable!

    David2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible new years eve stay in the hogan. Rosalyn was a great host, and the hogan and surrounding site was beautiful. A unique and unforgettable experience! Highly recommended.

    Jake2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Spending a night at Rosalyn’s hogan in Monument Valley was the highlight of our northern Arizona road trip adventure! It was a cold night in late November, but with a roaring fire with charcoals in the wood burning stove the hogan stayed balmy all night long. Rosalyn’s cooking is SO GOOD! Her family and pets are extremely friendly. This Airbnb experience definitely exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended.

Our hogan is located just beneath the 'Sentinel' Mesa of Monument Valley. Many Hollywood movies have been made here, and early traders named these mesas into their own interpretation. We will be happy to share our names for these giant mesas.
There is a wash area, and a place for morning coffee. Some dishes, & cook wares are available; just bring your menu & ingredients. A woodstove is available with firewood. There is an outside fire pit as well but bring your own fire wood for out side pit!
We are primely located a half mile from park. A foot trail hike is available with me as your guide. Keep in mind, being on Navajoland, hiking or driving on private roads require a guide.
  • Amazing hospitality! Rosalena and her family really made us feel at home. Their hogan is beautiful and very authentic. The beds are comfortable, and the wood stove really kept us warm throughout the night. Watching sunrise right in the Monument Valley was something so special we will never forget!

    Emily2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rosalena’s place was exactly as expected. It’s a traditional experience in a beautiful location, which is what I was hoping for. I recommend for anyone looking to get in touch with nature.

    Grant2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic, I am a photographer and I got some awesome astronomical photos, I never seen before so many stars in the sky, it's insane, you have electricity in the hogan, it was very clean, the fire keeps you warm if you go there in winter, it's a little hard to find the place because I got there at night but if you go at day time you will find the place, Rosalena is always there to help in anything that you will need

    Robin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location

    Mark2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place was gorgeous. We went during the winter where it was cold snowy outside but the hogan was warm when we had the fire going. It was very nice. Very peaceful. It is definitely like camping with a warm place to sleep in so be prepared for that - as Rosalena tells you in the review. The bathroom is an outhouse similar to camping but we were used to that. It was definitely a beautiful experience sleeping in a traditional hogan. I’d love to do it again!

    Drea2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely unique experience! It's a traditional Navajo Hogan located near the Sentinel Mesa. The location is absolutely breathtaking. The host's family were very helpful in telling us about the Navajo culture and living in a Hogan. Unfortunately, we experienced a lot of snow but the traditional heating system inside the Hogan managed to keep it warm. I think to have an end to end Monument Valley experience, this is a great place to stay.

Rose is "the heart of Monument Valley". Rose Hogan is very spacious, sturdy with natural materials that is very significant to the Navajo Culture. You will enjoy the beautiful views of the monuments. You will hear only silence, with an occasional coyote howling in the distance or a crow cawing. A great place for astrophotography, with no light noise. Enjoy an evening campfire (must bring own firewood) while sitting in the comfortable adirondack chairs. Rave reviews as "An incredible experience!"
Rose Hogan is very spacious, a wood stove is centrally located for warmth. Four single beds with clean sheets. A small table with folding chairs. Plenty of parking space on the property; Outhouse toilet is located a distance away. Our friendly horses will roam near the hogan, so will our dog, Gundolph (a big white dog).
    • Restaurants: The View Hotel at the Visitor Center and Goulding's Lodge (5 miles West of Visitor Center). • Gas/Food: Goulding's Grocery store is 2.5 miles West of junction Hwy 163 in Monument Valley. • Other Gas/Food: Kayenta, AZ is 23 miles South of Monument Valley (Hwy 163 & Hwy 160) and Mexican Hat, UT is 22 miles North of Monument Valley (Hwy 163) • John Wayne's museum is located at Goulding's Lodge
  • We loved our stay and highly recommend this experience.

    Sabrina2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the hogan in Monument Valley was an amazing experience. My parents, wife and I stayed one night in January, when the valley was covered in snow and the temp got down to 14 degrees. The wood stove kept the hogan fairly warm, but we had to take turns putting fresh firewood every two hours. Verna provided enough wood for the stove and we brought our own for the campfire outside. The dirt floors were a bit messy since our shoes were constantly wet from the snow, but other than that, everything was clean. Verna was super helpful in getting the fire started and describing the hogan's importance to Navajo life. I would suggest looking at the stay (especially in the winter) more like camping than a stay in a hotel, but the experience is fantastic. The view of the night sky alone was worth the stay. One note on access -- the day we arrived the valley road was closed because of slippery and icy conditions. We luckily had an SUV so Verna met us halfway and helped us get to the hogan safely. We made it out without a problem, but the experience would have been more comfortable with a 4-wheel drive car.

    Kent2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Extraordinary experience in a magnificent area! Loved everything about it, except the cold in November. But this is just nature and you should prepare for it! Vernas family traditions and hospitality gave us a nice insight in Navajos culture and we are grateful for it! If you love this area and the magic around it, book a Hoogan stay!

    Marlene2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Unique experience. Verna has welcome us nicely. Very good Navajo dinner. We enjoyed too the horse ride for 2 hours in a spectacular circus ! Amazing.

    Nathalie2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a special place! It’s a long journey but totally worth it to be in the beautiful Rose Hogan with Verna as host. She explained Navajo traditions in how hogans are built and took the time to introduce me to her valley. This is what AirBnB is for!! Take a chance and book it. I was alone—but felt safe. Waking up to the sun rising over Thunderbird Mesa was a beautiful experience. Thanks to Verna for your hospitality.

    Jeanne2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • There are many places to stay around here but this is by far the absolutely best place to stay! You are right in the middle of Monument Valley but far enough away from the tourist roads. Peaceful. Sitting by the fire pit with the decorative wagon in the background and the suns last light giving way to the immensity of night sky stars & milky way was breath taking! The shadows of the monuments at dusk gave you chills. Sleeping in the hogan was breath taking. The feeling one gets is a warm comfortable energy and lifts one's spirit. The night sky peaking through the hole in the top of the hogan provided a window of stars to stair at. When the moon peaked in it was as if someone had turned on a warm mellow light. In the morning, the sunrise over the valley is so peaceful and breath taking. We had the traditional Navajo Taco around the fire pit and loved it. The horseback ride to some of the parks unique areas was well worth it and just flat out amazing and relaxing. We will go back and stay not 1 night but 2 nights in the hogan. This is a must 2 night stay. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience this!

  • Celia's accommodation offers a unique local insight to Monument Valley. While it's not rich in amenities, it offers so much more than a bland motel. We were a group of 5 friends and we were all very happy we stayed there. Thanks Celia!

    Megan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This has been my favorite Airbnb experience to date. If you book Celia’s hogan, expect to be amazed. The hogan is comfy (the beds are SO comfortable) and warm even in February, and it will take you 20 minutes to walk up the hill from her home to observe the most phenomenal sunsets and rises you’ll ever in your life see. She’ll offer to serve you dinner (incredible) or breakfast, and the stars? The night sky is unparalleled. Don’t think; definitely book. Thanks for everything, Celia.

    J2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely "must be must see". Everybody who wants to learn about Navajo people must survive in hogan, taste Navajo dinner and listen to Celia and her husband Steven stories about history, traditions and living in the biggest Indian tribe. We were with kids and everybody were moved and have memories for rest of our life. In the beginning of February was windy and temp about 0°C, but we use the stove and the heater and it was enough to have warm at night. Everything was perfectly clean, there were kitchen utilities, towels, fresh water and even jewellery made by Celia&Steven. Highly recommend these people and place. Amazing!

    Anna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • My most common thought while staying at Celia's place: "I can't wait to bring my future wife here!" Celia's hogan was the perfect mixture of the authentic reservation experience and a comfortable airbnb that is well taken care of. I would honestly recommend this place to anyone. The location is breathtaking, the hosts were kind and thorough, clean outdoor shower with hot water and nice outhouse. They provided wood for the stove and a space heater to keep the hogan warm all night, clean towels, fresh water and cooking utilities, and responded to questions with promptness. Amazing experience in Monument Valley!

  • Perfect location for our stay in Monument Valley, and easy to find using the GPS coordinates. We really appreciated this family sharing their space with us, as we booked only a few days in advance. Temperatures were below freezing, and they helped us build a fire and set up two propane heaters for a cozy night. Even Brownie the dog was friendly and welcoming. Thanks again. :) Becka and Jill

    Becka2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the octagon. The place was as-described and very clean/organized. There were pots and pans with basic cooking accessories, a propane stove, and a wood-burning stove to keep the place warm. We found it helpful to bring a few Dura-Flame logs to keep the place comfortable until falling asleep. There were also a few propane heaters which were effective, too! Everything was well-labeled with instructions so we knew what was available. Celia was very prompt with responses and kind in person when we chatted with her. It was just a short ten-minute hike to the ridge, as promised, where we witnessed a magical sunset over monument valley. If you have dogs with you, there are quite a few goatheads on the property and hiking trail, so be wary of that. We had to carry the dogs part of the way, but it was a low-intensity Hike. There were a ton of res dogs around, but they were mostly friendly. We did speak with someone who camped, and she said the res dogs were barking and coming near her tent all night. However, we heard none of this. Overall a super pleasant experience, even on a chilly night! Thanks for a great stay, Celia!

Mobile home that has amenities for those traveling through or staying to enjoy the beauty of Kayenta and its neighbouring cities (please take time to read over the ENTIRE listing and pictures to avoid surprises). No smoking on property
Our minimalistic home is comfortable with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (1640sqft). It is inside the Kayenta Mobile Home Park and it's ready for enjoyment! Our home is central evaporative cooling and heating. There will also be additional A/C units in each bedroom during the warmer months. If an extra bed is needed outside of: 2 queens, 4 singles, couch, and portable crib- I do charge an extra $75
The Navajo Nation is a great place to live. It has beauty and culture like no where else in the world. Keep in mind that you are traveling through Sovereign Land, that is also impoverished. Most people on the Navajo Reservation are in the "poverty" line due to lack of jobs. Please know, housing on the Navajo Reservation is very hard to come by. Most houses (like this one) are a little outdated. There are no new houses that get built. As you enter the Navajo Nation, you will see that our house is just like everyone else's. You can search: The Navajo Nation Accepted More Than $1 Billion for Houses, So Where Did It Go? For more information Also know, that there is no convenient way for me (or you) to get accommodations that are seen as "normal" else where. Also note, there are a lot of stray dogs. Some belong to people, some don't. I use the rule of thumb of not to approach an animal I don't know. With the beauty of the land and the great community, tourism has slowly been growing on the Navajo Nation. With tourists coming from all over, it has been fueling the Navajo Nation economy. We have been here over a year, and have had no trouble, or targeted for crime. There is security at the trailer park as well. I would still recommend basic precautions that you would take in your own home (lock doors, don't leave money where others can see, don't give money to others, etc...).
  • It was a lovely stay with a lovely view ☺️

  • What you see is what you get. Lauren was very quick to respond, and gave clear instructions on how to check-in. The place was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. If you're a light sleeper, you may hear dogs barking outside, although we barely noticed. It's a short drive to Monument Valley from Kayenta, which makes it a great home base. Easy access to the grocery store as well.

We are delighted to share our home away from home: a 3-bedroom, 2-bath mobile home (1,700+ sq feet) located in Kayenta Mobile Home Park, fully furnished, and ready for your enjoyment! The home has central evaporative cooling and heating. In addition, there are A/C units in each bedroom.
Reasonable accommodations can be difficult to find in this remote area. Our mobile home is located near the entrance of the mobile home park, just north of the chiropractor's office. In addition, please know that you are traveling through IMPOVERISHED and RURAL areas. Here is an excerpt of what housing is like throughout the Reservation, from azcentral: "On the reservation, a swath of real estate the size of West Virginia and home to more than 173,000 people, housing arrangements are more a function of fate than choice. The poverty rate is 43 percent, double that of Mississippi, which is worst among the 50 states. Navajo unemployment hovers at 42 percent — six times that of Alaska, the highest among the states. The median household income of $20,005 is so low that nearly every Navajo family qualifies for food stamps. Tourists from around the world flock here to see the Monument Valley, Painted Desert and Canyon De Chelly, mostly overlooking the families living in distant hogans and dilapidated government housing. Navajos often take what is handed down or available for housing, because of the high unemployment and low-wage jobs." As you can see, the "state" of this neighborhood is not unique to Kayenta. In fact, it is the norm on Reservation land. Those traveling through for the first time will quickly learn of the impoverished state of this area. Fortunately, this has not deterred tourists from coming to enjoy the beauty of the Southwest. Tourism brings money into the Navajo Nation and helps fuel their economy. In the 9+ years we lived in this trailer court, our family was safe - this was HOME. We took comfort in knowing the trailer park patrolled the area in the evenings.
  • Perfect location if you are traveling from Grand Canyon to Monument Valley. The house is clean, large and well equipped. Initially, the location in a RV park can be surprising, but it is safe and typical from the area. I recommend!

  • Everyone in my family was really impressed with how clean and spacious it is inside. Josh and Divine are very helpful and fast to respond with any questions or concerns. The location was easy to find from just reading the directions. Amigo cafe was seriously good. Spicy and tasty salsa and super friendly staff.

  • Nice cottages. Comfy beds. Great location. Great communication!

  • This was one of my favorite stays in the most unexpected ways. I was looking for a place to stay, for an affordable price, on a work trip. This can be a tough area to find that. The cottage was wonderfully decorated, accommodations were plentiful, and Andi was an excellent host. I wish I could’ve stayed longer to enjoy the atmosphere and day - which I will admit I wasn’t expecting to say. I will gladly continue to travel this route, knowing that these cottages offer a wonderful refuge and experience!

    Mollie2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly and Andi's place is top notch. It's small but complete, minus a stove. Great for a single, a couple, or a couple and a child. This unit was built by Kelly and Denny the housekeeper, and it's beautiful. It's one of the highest quality places I've seen. They used quality materials in construction and decoration. The bed was super comfy. Everything was clean. They even left some snacks - which were a lifesaver, because the seasonal nature of the town plus my late arrival made finding food a little more difficult in the winter. I would certainly stay here again. I loved it.

    Michael2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly and Andi's place is cozy and peaceful. It was a wonderful place to spend a weekend. Highly recommend!

  • Kelly and Andi's cottage was the perfect place to spend the night on my drive to Southern Utah with my sister and our two dogs. The cottage was clean and cozy, and Kelly and Andi always responded quickly to our questions, providing thorough information about how to find the place and where we could access things in town. Would definitely stay here again next time I visit Southern Utah!

  • Cannot best the location for a trip to Monument Valley!! Unbelievable view from the backyard. Nate was easy to communicate with prior/during our trip. Recommend to anyone visiting the area!!

    Marissa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • I truly can't express how grateful I was to find this place. Nate was so nice and greeted my friends and I upon arrival. He started the fire in the house for us and gave us tons of great recommendations. We were all blown away with his place. There is places to hike directly beside the home and the swing and trampoline is also for adults, haha. We loved sitting by the fire pit at night and just hanging out. The home is on solar power, so don't come thinking you are going to be using tons of devices and electronics. Enjoy the valley and the people you are with! I'll be back 100%.

  • Ilene’s home is a DREAM! What a gracious host, and unique space. We stayed only a night but the beds were so comfortable, we built a fire out front and gazed at monument valley, the shower was nice and hot, and the breakfast was perfect to get the day started. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore!

  • Perfect location

    Tomo2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The view from Ilene's place absolutely cannot be beat. We were super comfortable, and enjoyed our stay very much. Ilene provided a wonderful breakfast, and lots of tips on the local area. We also loved having access to the kitchen to make dinner.

    Kelly2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely make every effort to arrive during daylight. It can be a bit confusing at night. Ilene is great! Get up early enough for sunrise! You won’t regret it.

    Ashley2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • There were no street lights around, and it was a little hard to find a house after the sun set. However, the starry sky was very beautiful. I have never seen such a starry sky. The accommodation is located next to the host family's house, with a bed and a desk. It was colorful and cute. The room was warmed by the host family. I was able to sleep comfortably at night. The bath, toilet, and kitchen are located in the host family's house and must be moved when used. However, they lent tableware and kitchen utensils, and lent shampoo and bath towels. The dining room was warmed by the fireplace and it was comfortable at night. Breakfast also provided cereals and bread. It was a really nice host family. I want to come again.

  • A very cozy cabin that was warm in February, no issues with heating. The amazing part is that you wake up and right outside your door is the sunrise over Monument Valley, which you can take in while drinking coffee on your porch. It was great to meet Ilene an we had a chance to meet some of her family as well. I wouldn't hesitate to book a stay here!

    Veronika2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place itself was really small and the heater was a space heater.. But it def did the job! There is no bathroom connected to the room, Its inside the main house. It worked out perfectly though because thats where she makes her jewelry and Its all so pretty and very well priced. The sunrise from room with the spectacular view was so breathtaking and to get anywhere (restaurant, Monument Valley entrance, grocery store, etc.. was all so conveniently located. Absolutely the perfect place to stay in the winter.

    Chelsie2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • There is no toilet, bath or kitchen in the cottage, and it is a little inconvenient that you have to go to the owner's house next to it. Internet is slow. Whatever the case, I was surprised by the beautiful scenery when I got up and went out in the morning! I just wanted to stay another night. I highly recommend it!

Physical Maps help w/ alternative routes. We negotiate longer term stays (3) self contained cars rvs & work exchange & online long term rental. We have enough toilet paper water for all booked dates till summer. If full we still have drive ins. Still much to see and park closures are false based on amenities. Lots of hiking trails in the region. Local EMS and new 911 service in area. We have a small group sized medkit and we encourage SHTF camping for self prepared people. Preppers no Tourists
All our photos are real, and in depth, many are by our guests who choose to impact the earth positively, learn more about Zero Waste Camping, and gently impact the environment in a good way. In a Beauty Way, benefitting the Navajo Community. There are no listings like us, and your stay is exclusive, as we are the only listing with 14 breathtaking Monuments, sleeping by you under a blanket of stars. We are not in the fee area, we are the entrance to the closed restricted Mystery Valley which the Junction is the community center. Not the fee gate at the visitors center. That is the non Indian area that is accessible by visitors. We are one mile from the junction which is OUR community center. We only have one road and it’s paved. A luxury for those who don’t want damages to their vehicle. This is a remote but year round accessible by any car tent camping site, with three erected tents and you can park next to your tent. Each one of these tents, has a bed, fireplace, table, lantern, chairs, and a 360 degree view of 14 Monuments. We have an unobstructed night sky. In the summer, its best to arrive at sunset, to see the location and where everything is, and spend your time creating your evening meal, and enjoying the last lights reflecting off the natural rock formations. We provide a fully erected canvas tent, that you can stand and walk in, with windows that open in the great outdoors - includes linens, blankets, comforter, pillows with pillow cases, and a queen size 0 degree bag for the full sized beds, and a 30 degree sleeping bag for the cots. These are more than enough protection for our climate and weather conditions in the winter. We also have hand warmers, in a limited number, so you may request to borrow one for free, which can help warm your sleeping bag before you sleep. Even though we cannot change the temperatures outside, inside the tent, and in your bed, there's opportunities for comfort while resting assured that your stay is as gentle to the environment as possible. And its a work in progress, as a learning experience, as all environmentally conscious projects are. But we are the only community beneficial project that has zero waste impact principals, and we want guests that want to learn and do more while exploring and creating memories. Memories without waste is our goal. We loan out tent heaters, if you bring 16 oz propane canisters, or you can rent a 5 gal tank from us for 20$ if you feel that the temperature will be a concern. 2 canisters are typically enough, and in the coldest of temperatures, 4 was constant heat throughout the night. Again we also have rechargeable hand warmers, to warm the sleeping bags. Of course, we must state for the record, and as most experienced campers know, that we cannot control the outside temperatures or weather, and we simply advise, that layered clothing and proper clothing for outdoors, is the best solution for maintaining comfort while camping. We have onsite gravity filtered water which we use Berkey Water Filtration, that is purified, if you need any, just bring your water canisters and we can fill them. We provide a 5 gallon water container, onsite, except in freezing temperatures. During the winter, when the temps drop below freezing, we close the showers at 9p and reopen them at sunrise, to prevent the equipment from freezing. This worked quite well last year, and we are very happy to provide it again this year. Our solar powered shower is the gem in nature's crown. It has all the frills an urban traveller depends on - hot water, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, fresh towels while being powered by the sun, and fully portable, so that its not embedded into the earth. Of the earth but does not cost her. We invite you to join us, at the junction of Monument Valley, and the entire region, we are truly accessible all year round, and any vehicle can make it any time of year. We are THE EASIEST TO FIND! Though we have no street addresses on the Navajo Reservation. By visiting with us, we thank all our guests, past and future, for making their trip a difference, supporting our Honey Bee Plan to provide bees to Navajo Community Members, address phyto remediation due to regional Uranium Contamination, support Navajo youth, and clean up destitute areas, to renaturalize them. Ahe'hee!
Mystery Valley is closed to the public. You can only access our area by guided tour. So our tents are like a theater seat, where you can sit and watch the natural rock formations and the sunset and not pay by the hour on a tour. However many people take tours of our area after they visit the 17 mile loop. We understand that many people do not like the road. And our campsites are not next to the road but very closeby which is convenient. And identical to all the others except we do not have any buildings or houses. However there are many people who expect camping in remote areas. Navajo live here. Do not allow them to keep relocating people based on false estimations of real estate importance. Please respect the speed limits for the wild horses and animals, and children. Even if others do not. Navajo do not, and go check their website. They do not allow back country camping without a Navajo present. So there are NO remote Hogan’s. All Hogan’s have people by them. If this is a problem then go stay with the Hopi and you’ll see our set up is better. And they do not allow anyone in their back country without a Navajo Guide or resident. That is what the 17 mile loop is for. Some people think that the fee gate is the exclusive area LOL. It’s a great and incredible area. And everyone was relocated out of that area so you can be there. So please have respect for the community and not brand our area with false notions or ideas based on westernized expectations. Or real estate speculations. Last year we were inundated with people asking who owns what. Navajo do not own land and have no mortgages. It’s owned by the Navajo Tribe. It’s not for sale. And you can’t just drive anywhere without a Navajo. Monument Valley is everything you can see for a 100 miles in any direction from any location you are standing at. The fee gate has moved several times. Do not give strangers power over our community by ratings based on misinformation and location. We have no addresses so the location issues are misapplied. For everyone here. We are promoting using Airbnb Hotel and Occupancy Taxes to the Navajo Tribe to be earmarked for community improvement projects after the closure of the Black Mesa Mine and the Navajo Generating Station. We are campaigning for HOT to be used to develop public transportation on the now defunct and unused coal rail line from Grand Canyon to Shonto/Kayenta and Turo or other ride share apps so Navajo Tour Guides can offer private or public ridesharing to reduce the traffic on the only paved and unpaved road we have. Also Navajo could benefit by year round transportation to and from major cities like Flagstaff. If you can write down your support of this idea and leave it at the hotels or with the park we’d greatly appreciate this support. All other coal mining communities got public transportation. Do not stand by and watch the entire economy plummet. Look at the roadside on your way here. Navajo deserve economic opportunities and public transit is one. A community transport rail car is doable in any society. And it’s already there. Waiting for people.

Amazing, breathtaking, spiritual. The Chee Ranch is a gateway experience into an ancient culture that still lives today in the 21st century. This is a rustic experience for those with adventurous spirits. Sleep in a traditional Hogan or under the stars of the Milky Way, hosted by Bella and Elvis. Flutes are being played as Bella shares stories by the firelight. The Chee family lives on the ranch, where they pass on to their children the traditional ways of Navajo life and jewelry making.
No running water, outhouse available. Access to kitchen available. (Outdoor showers will be added soon.)
Close to other unique parks. Horse and keep tours available inside Monument Valley. Hiking nearby

  • Great romantic get away for my girlfriend’s birthday! A unique exploration into Navajo culture. I can assure you experiencing a place like this is authentic of the home to a people that have lived in this word for millennia. Visit, be humble and experience the way of life for one tribe of America’s first people.

  • Very wonderful, unique spot. Elvis in his wife were very hospitable and gave you a background about the Navajo nation as well as offered up a Navajo dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend you take that opportunity. Excellent place to stay if you want to star-gaze - they were phenomenal!

    Kelly2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • This hogan was easily one of the best places we have ever stayed! It’s authentic and beautiful. Elvis, Bella, and their two grown kids made our stay so special. The only concern we had prior to arrival was the heating aspect. But the hogan has a wood burning stove to boil water on and heat the space. We were never cold inside even with the freezing weather outside. The toilet was an outhouse near the hogan. It has lights and is clean. We had taco fry bread made fresh by the hosts for dinner and home made blue mush made by hand and fry bread with honey for breakfast with coffee ($10 a plate) and it was all delicious. It’s so dark and clear right now and we had a fire while star gazing after dinner. My friend and I also bought earrings from Bella and Elvis HAND MADE BY THEM! And they are all stunning. They also have TONS of information about the Navajo culture and the reservation which we enjoyed. We cannot thank them enough and will definitely be going back! The place is a little tricky to find but they are working on signage. We navigated by the monument closest to them in the pictures. They are so close you can watch sunrise over the monuments right from your front door of the hogan! Just. Amazing.

    Jennifer2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to experience the traditional life style of Navajo people you don’t wanna miss the opportunity of living in a hogan! The Elvis hogan is outstandingly in front of the mesas of monument valley and we could feel the spirits of nature there! Elvis and his family also prepared traditional dinner and breakfast for us ! Highly recommended.

Everyone in Monument Valley lives on the two paved roads, the 163, and the Monument Valley Road. Navajo live roadside, because we have only had internet for two years. When you drive in you will see the Navajo roadside, and behind the houses, vast open spaces. Its because economically its expensive to maintain vehicles for long unpaved roads. In addition it was our only way to connect with tourists pre-internet. Please do not be astonished that the Navajo live by our only two paved roads. Connect with our culture as we are not as you imagine us to be.

  • Absolutely incredible views! We stopped to camp one night on our way to the Grand Canyon and could not have been more pleased with the views and experience we had. Krissie is extremely accommodating, providing everything you need for a night of camping plus tips to enjoy the monuments.

  • This is a great campsite right in Monument Valley! The outdoor shower is a bonus, you can literally wash your hair while watching the sun go down on the valley. Great value and location!

    Jessica2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • You probably can’t get closer to monument valley and you can watch the sunset from the tent ! We had a nice stay, thanks Krissie and the tacos were amazing !

  • Krissie is a very friendly host. The view of Monument Valley rocks from her house and yard are phenomenal! We loved her dog Kiki, and her dad chopped and brought firewood for us for just $5. It was a great stay and we loved being there!

Welcome to Chiefs Cabin Chiefs Cabin is a quiet, relaxing, and clean environment . To enjoy the atmosphere of the NAVAJO WESTERN STYLE ( meaning- outhouse/outside toilet) and to see all the stars at night with a fire pit and picnic table available. In the pictures the cabin looks small but its big ( 12ft × 32ft ). NO RUNNING WATER in the cabin There is an outside shower with hot and cold water. The cabin is VERY NEW NO SMOKING in cabin please
My guests will love the place. Its 1 mile away from the Monument Valley Park. To walk out the cabin and see the beautiful scenery will take your breathe away.
I love how quiet it is to live here. Can hear yourself think and the mesa's takes your breathe away of how BEAUTIFUL it is here. No traffic or loud noises.
  • Great hosts, very caring. The cabin is right next to their house, so they helped us find the location and get settled in. Her dog Kiki is super friendly! Overall amazing experience, definitely recommend staying here if you have the option

    Jake2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We - two adult and three kids, ages 1, 3 and 8 - loved our stay at Krissie's place. It is very close to Monument Valley Visitors' Center and the area around is stunningly beautiful. The house is actually larger than we expected and sparkling clean. We visited on a fairly cold December night, but the heater kept us warm. Krissie is a wonderful host, we felt very welcome. We would love to come back one day!

    Elizabeth2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, exactly as described, comfortable bed, and very communicative host. Would probably stay there again.

    Joe & Heidi2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy cabin in the Navajo Nation Reservation, surrounded by the mesas & buttes of magnificent Monument Valley. Gazing at the fire pit as the sun went down was a highlight for us, as was the incredibly close shooting star we spotted. Krissie supplied a most delicious dinner & set the fire for us. She also organised our Navajo tour guide for a 2 1/2 hour sunrise tour, this was far superior to the commercial tours offered. Thanks Krissie! So book now because this lodging is very special indeed.

    Barbara & Pieter2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • The host was very friendly and welcoming and answered all our questions. They have a shower outside the cabin and it has warm water. The views are beautiful and very close to the entrance of monument valley. Their dog is friendly. Quiet place to sleep in.

    Javier2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The experience of being able to sleep next to Monument Valley has been spectacular! As a positive point we can find the location and the adequacy of the space, as well as the hospitality of the host. It was easy to find the space, thanks to the indications of the Krissie, despite going there at night. On the other hand, as a negative aspect there is nothing to emphasize, but if there is one, it is that the price is a little high for what it really is.

    Ricard2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very good location, drive to Monument Valley for ten minutes. The house is easy to find according to the check-in instructions given by the landlord. Be sure to download Google's offline map in advance. The room was clean and it looked bigger than the picture. Everything is perfect except for the toilet and washing. The landlord is very nice and very good at communicating. If a compatriot sees this comment and you have not booked a hotel in the scenic area, this is a good choice.

    2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is authentic living for it's kind and definately how it is described, but much better experience than the photos show....shower and toilet facilities rustic and basic as described. I enjoyed the Taco meal that Chrissie and her family made and served, which was a nice touch. It would be good to spend more than the one night I had to explore the trails and culture.

A Historic Navajo Traditional Earth and Log Cabin that Navajo have used for ceremony and family. The experience is for most westerner's basic, rustic, or a lot like camping but you experience the way the Navajo have survived through centuries. Mystery Valley is closed to the public, except at roadside locations like ours, that are centrally located and easy access by any vehicle, any time of year. We are close to everywhere people want to go in the tourist area. We are Monument Valley AZ
A traditional Navajo Hogan or earth dwelling that is a historic 50 year old roadside family business, that has been open to Non Natives and is accessible to the paved roads. It is on 163/Mitchell Butte Road, by the junction. The Junction of 163/Welcome Center is the State line between Utah and Arizona. We are Monument Valley Arizona. The residential side of Monument Valley that is closed to the public. The Welcome Center is the Oljato Center, which is the central point of Monument Valley - splitting the Arizona and Utah sides of Monument Valley. The 17 Mile loop is on one side, with the visitors center and the Tribal Park Offices of Navajo Nation. On the other side is Gouldings Lodge and the old entrances to Monument Valley and Oljato. Oljato is the gateway to Paiute Farms. The 163 goes north and south, from Kayenta to Mexican Hat. The East side of the junction is a small 17 mile tourist drive, with major breathtaking Monuments that are open to the public. We are in central Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo Nation just south of the Junction. We are Monument Valley Tribal Park Arizona, facing Mystery Valley and a gorgeous Butte right outside your door. All Hogans are surrounded by Navajo family homes. Its called cluster housing and its typical of the Navajo Reservation. You will see similar homes and businesses roadside on your drive here, while travelling on the Navajo Nation. The hogan is traditional, there is no electricity or running water. Guests who enjoy our hogan do so, for the price reduction, as we do not entertain. We are also centrally located on the paved roads, so guests who choose our location want to drive and move quickly through the area, and visit remote locations by tours they have established for their trip. We are closeby to the Grocery Store, Gas Station and both restaurants, plus you can drive to Kayenta or Mexican Hat very quickly. We are easy to find. Without spending a ton of money, guests are looking for an unusual photo moment a traditional Navajo housing experience, and get a bonus of fabulously dark night skies. We are the least expensive, and most roadside accessible location in our area. With your own rock Monument to enjoy, Mitchell Butte directly outside the door and a span backdrop of Mystery Valley. The sun sets and rises at our location.
We are located on the paved section of Monument Valley, we are the non fee residential area, called Mystery Valley. Non Navajos are not allowed off road access to anywhere in our area or Narrow Canyon. So people are dismayed when the road they came in on, doesn't leave or disappear during their stay. Mystery Valley is only accessible through the Navajo Tribal Park Fee area tour kiosk with Navajo guides. The Navajo do not accept any requests for off road access to Mystery Valley, and there are no listings in Mystery Valley outside of ours. We hope that just being in that space is valuable to folks. We are having tremendous difficulties with people talking about us, as if we are outside the park. If you check the maps, we are inside the Navajo Tribal Park. We are inside Monument Valley. The fee area, or the gate has been moved several times. Mainly because residents don't want non Navajos, in their back country. We however, provide an experience in a traditional hogan, in the allowed areas, so that people can get a glimpse of Mystery Valley and for those who wish to explore further, to book tours in the park for that area.

  • Comfortable, quiet, roomy cabin. A great place to stay if you’re visiting Monument Valley or Natural Bridges. Recommended. Limited dining options in Bluff during winter, so stock up on groceries first.

  • Awesome little spot in bluff from which to stage your southern Utah adventures! The cottage was cute, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Three of us were able to have dinner, lounge and get a great nice sleep here. The kitchen is great for coffee, reheating food and some light cooking. The living room was spacious. Everything was sparking clean. It was too cold to use when we visited, but there is even a nice little patio with furniture and access to grill so you can enjoy the outdoors even during your stay. Check in/out was easy and the WiFi works great. Can’t ask for more!

The hosts really think of everything to make you comfortable. The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need and then some. We are open for short term, week to week or monthly visits, in addition to nightly visits. We have toilet paper, antiseptic medical grade wipes, and potable water, solar powered shower with hot water, towels, toiletries. Outhouse is the available restroom. Area limited to 3 Tents, social distancing and great for self quarantine in Nature!
We provide a tent, already set up, gently used condition. Tent number one has a full sized bed, and a single sized bed with max 3 persons. It has a storage bin, with gear inside, for camping style cookware. It has a tiny inverter which allows small device charging, a lantern, tent fairy lights, and we also provide hand warmers as available which can be used to warm the bed, or as an extra guest light. The restroom is shared, the outhouse is a dry toilet used and at minimum legal distance by the Navajo Park Service. The showers are not in the lower campground to not encourage wildlife visiting the camping area, so we have it at the upper level home office.
We are inside the Tribal Park BUT we are not inside the fee area. The fee gate is on the backbone ridge at the entrance to the View Hotel parking lot. BOTH sides of the fee gate are the Navajo Tribal Park. BOTH sides of the fee gate are Navajo Nation. One side is Utah and one side is Arizona. We are Oljato-Monument Valley Arizona. People pay to access the 17 mile loop. Why stay where you already visit by fee and your fee is good for both days. Add in a stay in the non fee restricted residential area and stay with families that were relocated from the park area to clear that space for visitors. And you get to see the other Navajo half of Monument Valley. We are at the entry to Mystery Valley. Staying with us does not grant you access to the area because you can only tour with a Navajo Guide. Although it’s closed to the public our tents are as far as you can go without a permit. And the area is like a natural amphitheater with 14 monuments in 360 degree unobstructed views. It’s not too wild as we have fewer problems with wild animals or off-road predicaments with vehicle damages. But we are far enough where you can vigil in nature and access the great accessibility of the only road that is paved. Meaning within less than 5 mins you can go to the grocery store, gas station, Cruise around the area and visit the 17 mile fee area anytime or as many times as you wish. We ask that guests firmly adhere to the 45 mph speed limits in our community and report unlawful traffic on the roads. Since we have wild horses and other wild animals in our community that do not have a way across the road. And children, elderly, young people without cars who hitchike (hitchhiking is legal). We have picked up elderly women who must travel to and from volunteering at schools or churches and their vehicles are for their working family members. Regardless it’s a 4 mile dead end road and NO ONE should be speeding or passing you as it doesn’t get any shorter or take any longer to respect the community signs and safety. In addition our sunsets and sunrises are magical and breathtaking. We are a destination site with cultural landscape views and we use our stays to validate that some people wish to travel and not impact the environment detrimentally and local hosts can help with that. You also help our local economy as Navajo Nation has more than 50% unemployment and we are a tiny community of about 900 people.

You’ll love our new hogan because of our location and being hosted by a local Navajo (Dine) family eager to share our culture and highlights of things to see & do in Monument Valley. Small complimentary coffee/tea pot, cookware, & bbq tools are provided. Gas BBQ grill and Fire Pit are on site. *Must provide your own firewood for fire pit. Dinner is available upon request, please add to comments when reserving. We serve a small, free complimentary breakfast.
Our restroom is an outdoor portable restroom. It has automatic sensory lights, hand sanitizer, & sanitizing wipes. Guests can roam within visual areas to the Hogan. We have 2 horses, 3 dogs (all friendly, kept on leash), a tomcat, & chickens. There may be other grazing sheep, horses, and cows in the vicinity.
Majority of Navajoland does not have street addresses. Please study the map I provide, look for posted signs, & landmarks (Hwy 163, Mile post 416 in AZ, not Utah. I recommend checking in before dark. Note our time differences regarding your travel schedule. Access is challenging to motorbikes, especially Harleys. Not recommended.
  • Amazing location at the base of a mesa with incredible views! It was cold when we went but inside the hogan was cozy warm! Wish it had been warmer to light the fire pit outside and stargaze but can't do much about that. The Navaho sweet bread for breakfast was delicious! Thank you so much Rosalyn!

  • Rosalyn is a great host, very accurate and available. The hogan is very cozy and warm - there is a stove that was perfect to keep us warm all night even if it is January and it is very cold outside. We also enjoy the breakfast that was provided. Rosalyn also gave us some tips on where to find a local market. I highly recommend her place.

  • Rosalyn was a fantastic host and made our family feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The location is perfect for visiting monument valley and our children loved exploring her property and being introduced to the horses, dogs, chickens, etc. We will be recommending this accomodation to family and friends!

  • It was my second time to visit her Hogan. Fisrt time was in the middle of summer (2018 August) and this time was snowy winter (Dec 16) It was both amazing. I was worried about cold at winter but it was fine as long as we had wood burning stove going. I never forget all the stars in the sky I will come back definitely!!

Very quiet and serene. Very little traffic and light noise to view the Milky Way plus billions of stars. Great for astrophotography.
  • Our stay at Verna's place was one of the most amazing experiences we ever had. The place is pretty much secluded from the outside world, giving us a very unique experience that we never had before. Verna and her daughter were extremely nice and welcomed us. Would love to visit and stay at Verna's place again if there is another chance.

    Kevin2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location, with a simple way to be in symbiosis with nature. Amazing lying and sunrise from the accommodation. I recommend, especially with the kindness of Verna.

    Valentin2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The place to be! A beautiful place, literally in the heart of Monument Valley. We took full eyes. Everything was in line with Verna's announcement. A tent with mattress and sleeping bag in an old wooden stable. My tent is clean sheets too. A flashlight and a hanging lamp in the tent are gracefully ready. We were able to share our evening around the fire with the other Hogan's guests, as well as the shooting stars. Exchange, sharing, memories. Everything was there There is also a dry toilet and a shower. We did not test. A real cowboy experience. We also enjoyed the Navajo Taco ($ 15 / person) which was excellent. We had to ride horses in Monument Valley with Verna's nephew, but unfortunately he had a problem with his car and could not come. Next timeBb

    Roxanne2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Verna was a great host, the grounds exceeded far beyond my expectations! If you are looking for an unforgettable experience this is the place for you.

    Christina2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Extraordinary site in the heart of the valley. Not to be missed. This is a camp site no water no toilet. Very cozy 3 sided sleeping shelter, fire ring and picnic table overlooking the Hub. The road in is a little rough but we pulled our 19' R Pod trailer up to the site with not much difficulty. IF Verna's is road was wet probably need 4x4 if pulling a trailer but otherwise a car can make it just fine. Verna is easy to work with and always immediately responsive. For a almost back country experience in Monument Valley Verna's is unbeatable.

  • Verna is a great host and willing to make the most of our experience at home despite the bad weather. We finally slept in a hogan, a super friendly experience in a truly exceptional location right in the middle of Monument Valley Park. Sleeping at Verna was really one of the highlights of our stay.

  • Incredible camp spot in the heart of amazing serenity and beautiful landscape. Completely self sufficient primitive camping with a lovely leanto shelter. Verna met us at the scheduled time and guided us back. Would highly recommend!

  • Verna was awesome, she greeted us at the site and provided us with some insightful Navajo cultural information. Her place has a great view of monument valley—the location is amazing.

  • Susan and Charlie are wonderful hosts. Their place is cosy and feels like a home away from home. Our room was immaculately clean with a comfortable bed. I loved the decor, it was charming. The breakfast spread included fruit, Susan's homemade granola, and a hot dish (eggs, toast, bacon). This was the best meal of the day! It was tasty and wholesome. I didn't want to leave! Definitely would stay here again.

  • Susan and Charlie at Canyon Wren in Bluff near Monument Valley is definitely the place to stay. You will receive a very warm welcome in a unique house close to impressive cliffs. The breakfast by itself justifies the detour. Charlie and Susan will share with you their accurate advices on how to have great time and discover the best places in the neighborhood. It is a fantastic location we have ever discovered.

  • Charlie is very attentive to his hosts. It has a very pretty house with a beautiful garden. The breakfast is very varied with products from his garden that have taste. The room is spacious and very comfortable, the bathroom is shared with another room. I really recommend a stop at Charlie and Susan's.

The room is tastefully decorated and cozy with small intentions. The bathroom / WC are perfect and clean. The terrace is very nice and quiet at night. They advised us places to visit and eat in the city. The breakfast is plentiful, varied and very good. It is prepared and served at table by Charlie :-) We feel very good at home. • Alberta and Brian are wonderful people, and both of them made sure to meet us when they were available, and made us feel like we were staying by relatives. We camped at the hummingbird site with wife and toddler, and without hesitation would do it again.

    Jarred2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a authentic and fantastic home away from home this is your spot. The campsite was impeccable, the outhouse was very clean. The space also came with everything you could need. A picnic table, solar lights and fire pit with grill. The location is everything! Not only is monument valley your personal back yard, but you are also able to walk their family’s trail, wake up with the sun and see the beautiful sunsets, which if you are with family, I suggest bringing along some camp games as sunset is at 5-5:30 in the winter months. You are also only a 3 min drive to the visitor centre (you could walk easily too). There’s lots of amenities around as well (Goulding’s) including a laundry and a grocery store maybe 10 mins down the street. Plus, they have a small Museum and gift shop. However, I would recommend going to the Welcome Center, as the locals sell food there and you can get authentic jewelry as well. If city life is more what you crave you’re about 2 hours out to Paige. If you do not like dogs (which we do) this May not be the spot for you, as all of the residents have them and they like to visit. We really enjoyed spending time with Alberta’s pups. Also, the ravens are very clever and will pillage you’re food ( even in a cooler) so I recommenced keeping it in the car. They can also go through the garbage so you may have to pick it up a time or two. As we stayed from December 17- Christmas Day, I will say that it is very windy and also can be very cold on days. So make sure you pack accordingly and invest in winter camping gear and heaters. Lastly, Alberta and Brian are so very genuine and accommodating, they checked up on us constantly. Came to chat, offered so much information and were so very kind to show us so much of their home and culture. Albertas Tacos 🌮 are very yummy and if you should choose to try them ! She even makes a vegetarian option ! Brian is a great tour guide and Alberta is such a sweet genuine bubbly person. So very very kind. And when you stay with them they treat you like family.

  • Truly superb hosts, thought of everything for their guests down to the most minute detail. Truly enjoyed the stay as I will highly recommend ! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat !

    Brett2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, quiet and comfortable. The access to the campsite is well signed and was easy to find. The views from the campsite are spectacular in all directions and the stargazing is superb. Alberta and Brian provided excellent hospitality and were very friendly and welcoming. They also added a lot of little touches such as putting out solar lights to mark the way to the outhouse to make it easier to find at night. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and when I travel back to Monument Valley, I will definitely stay here again.

    Chad2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying here for a magical experience! You are next to the other campsite so don’t expect to have complete privacy but the location is priceless—incredible views in all directions and it still feels very peaceful and tranquil because there is lots of open space around the campsites/Brian & Roberta’s home. Brian & Roberta were incredibly hospitable and chatting with Brian was one of the highlights of my stay. Highly, highly recommended.

    Brianna2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Safe and comfortable place to camp for the night, and very close to the Monument Valley Visitor Center and trails.

    Jenna2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous views!! Great location in heart of Monument valley. Has covered fire pit for high winds, shelter, picnic table and a very clean outhouse. All the amenities of the KOA/ Goulding without the corporate.. only two sites share outhouse, but they have their own shelter and fire pit. They will even make you an authentic Navajo taco for reasonable price. Offered me free firewood on a very cold night.

    Shawn2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is THE PERFECT SPOT for visiting Monument Valley and the surrounding area! I stayed as part of my through road trip. The food was AMAZING as well, so definitely get it! Very accommodating and thoughtful.

Jens Nielson was a religious emigrant from the island of Laaland, Denmark. He, along with his family, emigrated to the United States in 1856 and joined the ill-fated Willie Handcart Company headed for the Salt Lake Valley. The company was struck by an early winter and suffered many fatalities due to cold and starvation. Among the dead was his only son Jens (age six) and Bodil Mortenson a young girl that was traveling with the family. After reaching the Salt Lake Valley, Jens founded several communities in southern Utah including Cedar City and Bluff. Where he built this beautiful rock house that is now fully upgraded with modern amenities to make your stay more enjoyable. • I really enjoyed my stay at Celia's place! I was passing through monument valley, and wanted a place I could setup camp. This was perfect. I was warmly greeted by Celia (and her sweet dog) upon arriving at the site. My favorite part was a short trail from their property to a view that overlooks the valley. Perfect for sunset or sunrise. Beautiful! Although I kept to myself, I appreciated Celia's good communication and hospitality. One thing to note: the driveway can get muddy after it rains/snows. It wasn't bad, just a couple slippery parts.

    Ryan2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great location & easy to get there! I would definitely stay here again. Plenty of space for your tent and fire.

    Alex2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Celia was a great host. Her campsites are simple, but a nice set up. Each has a fire pit, chairs, and a picnic table under a little roof to protect from the weather. Even though there was plenty of snow on the ground, we were able to enjoy a beautiful Monument Valley sunset around the campfire, and hang out with the dogs on the property. Hope we have a chance to come back!

    Abby2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Celia had a great camp site and was a wonderful host! Thank you for a memorable stay. We also enjoyed having the dog hang around camp, he was so sweet! We hope we get the opportunity to return.

    Aj2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • We have a very warm welcome at our experience from Celia and her husband Steven. Brownie the dog was also very cute! We bring our own tent and camping equipment. You can do a BBQ. There are firepits on the tent sites. It was a wonderful stay and a great adventure. You sleep near the Monuments. We had twice the short walk to the rim one time as we arrive (Day) and once in the dark for watching sunrice. We recomend to do the First Walk at daytime. There are some signs at the way but in the dark it is a little bit tricky to find the right way. If we are back at MV we will stay there again! Highly recomend if you are prepared for camping!

    Gaby2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • They have three neat and clean campsites, as well as a hogan, on their land, which borders the tribal park. There is an outhouse and a shower on site, which are well maintained. Our favorite part was the private hiking trail which leads to an amazing view of Monument Valley, specifically the East and West Mitten monuments. Just beautiful!!!

    Jacquelyn2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The campsite was very nice and has a great environment and views. Celia was very friendly and you could talk to her well. It was very cold, but still there was a hot shower! :)

    Adam2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very good location 5min from Monument Valley Visitor Center. We were under tent and protected from the wind thanks to the shelter set up by the host, very well thought out. The shower is outside, the water is very good, and taking a hot shower under the stars is really great! We lit a fire the first night, and the second night we ate the succulent Navajo Taco, it was delicious, I recommend !!!! Krissie and her family are very nice and very hospitable! We thank you again, see you soon!

  • A dream place to pitch your tent

    Maxence2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality and very close for sightseeing. We hired a tent and sleeping bags and enjoyed a homemade Navajo Taco which was delicious. Everything was nice and sleeping in the tent was comfortable.

    Selina2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Krissie’s campsite was wonderful. It was nice and private with hot showers and an amazing view. We just opened our tent door to see the amazing view around us. Just had to step outside and the view was amazing in every direction. We were worried at first because we didn’t know what to expect, but this place was perfect. We rented the tent with air mattress so we didn’t have to bring much. It worked out perfect. We even made a campfire and made s’mores, bought from the grocery store about 5 minutes away. Too bad we didn’t get a chance to try their Navajo taco, I’m sure it was good. Make sure to read the directions to get here, as it can be confusing if you’re just trying to find it using Google Maps and no instructions. We had to pull over and read the instructions again, and it all made sense.

    Alexander2019-09-01T00:00:00Z

Come relax and rejuvenate in our quaint Red Cliff Cabin. Ideally located in the heart of Monument Valley, you’ll have easy access to the local attractions: MV park, hiking trails, grocery store, restaurants, fuel station. This newly constructed eco friendly cabin is outfitted with the basic necessities one will need for a pleasant stay. We are 100% solar so electricity is scarce and is dependent upon the weather. All bedding, linens, comforter, bath towels are changed daily.
This cabin is located on privately owned land on the Navajo Reservation and surrounded by a variety of organic seasonal fruit trees. With your stay you’ll have access to amenities such as a BBQ grill outside of your private deck, large picnic table, relax and kick back on your king size memory mattress or living room couches. We have two shared bathrooms with toilets, sinks, and showers. All electricity comes from solar and depends upon the weather. We are not a Marriot or a five star hotel, we are a five billion star in the sky Red Cliff Cabin.
This is a quite location about a 0.9 miles headed west from the Monument Valley Intersection. Gouldings Restaurant and lodge is a half mile from our location. The View Hotel and Visitor center is roughly 4 miles away.
  • This place was such an experience and we appreciated that. Bed is massive. Appreciated the warmth of the bathroom. Loved waking up to the surroundings. The outdoor cat was so precious. Space was chilly, but we did have the option to use the wood burning stove and decided not to :)

    Adrianna2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best Airbnb experience I’ve ever had. The view from the room was gorgeous and not something I could imagine forgetting. The room was extremely clean. I was a little concerned about using an outhouse, but it was extremely clean too and had its own heater. This place exceeded my expectations.

  • Exactly as advertised. One room cabin with a very comfy king size bed, a couple of chairs and a wood-burning stove. Got the stove started up and it kept the room toasty. The view as you step out on the deck cannot be beaten. Enjoy the sunrise, the sunset and the dark skies and stars.
