Places to stay in McKee
This apartment is in the center of downtown McKee near the intersection of Highway 421 and Hwy 89 North. A very small town with one stoplight. There are 14 steps up to the entrance of the apartment with 570 square feet, 2 bedrooms, kitchen with full stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer. This apartment his somewhat historical in the community having been built in the late 1940s.
This apartment is in a commercial building built in the late 1940’s originally as the McKee Theater. Built by my wife’s great grandparents, “Bud” and Mattie Hughes, they operated the movie theater for approximately 10 years. Bud and Mattie then began operating a series of Drive-Inns in Jackson, Madison and, Fayette counties and converted the theater into an S&T hardware store. “The Caroline” has been home to a law office and later a dentist office before being rented out as an apartment.
Within the immediate area that is within walking distance: Shell gas station/mini mart open 24/7, Opals Restaurant (Sun-Fri 11 am-4 pm, closed Sat), Jackson County Public Library, Post Office, Pam's Hair Salon, Backroom Bargains clothing and home goods, Henry's Pool/Game room, S & T Hardware Store, Smith Automotive Repair, Carquest Auto Parts. Other nearby businesses that are a short drive include: Family Dollar Store, General Dollar Store, Rite Aid pharmacy, Mckee Medical Clinic, Chiropractic Health Solutions, Sav A Lot grocery store, Jackson County Farm Service Store. Turkey Foot Park & Recreation Area, S Tree Recreation Area, and Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail are within our county. We are also on the route of the TransAmerican Bicycle Trail . Please feel free to ask us or contact the Jackson County Tourism (visitjacksoncountyky.org) to get more info or directions. We would be happy to help.

  • Such a gem tucked away in the hills. This was just what we needed on our trip home from Thanksgiving. There was almost instant responses to questions it was great. We loved the space and the radiator was the perfect thing to warm that place up to be nice and toasty.a

  • We had a really nice time.

  • This place was a perfect pit stop on our way to Tennessee. Michael was prompt in his responses and was very accommodating knowing we wouldn’t be checking in until after 11pm. The space itself was much bigger than I anticipated. There were so many amenities as well such as snacks, coffee, and water. The guest book was a nice added touch. We will most definitely be back!

  • Tabatha's cabin is absolutely wonderful - it was perfect for our quick getaway. Super easy to find, and extremely close proximity to a ton of hiking! It was incredibly cozy, and she even had a fully stocked kitchen (including coffee). Will definitely be staying again!

  • The cabin was beyond incredible. If you love nature this is perfect launching point to many adventures.

  • Wow, all I can say about this spot. The cabin and backyard patio were so neat. From the second I walked in I felt at home. Very clean and inviting. The kitchen was fully stocked down to the Lawry’s seasoned salt I forgot. Tabatha was a wonderful host and answered all my questions promptly. We visited Flat lick falls and the Pinnacles of Berea. We will be back!!

    Steven2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Home away from home! Tabitha was quickly responsive and the cabin was exactly as you see it in the pictures. There was plenty of space for our family of four and the kids loved having the upper loft area as “their space.” Don’t hesitate. This is the space! Totally worth it. Roughly 20 mins from two falls and a playground. Only a few minutes from Family Dollar and a DQ. 1 hour from Natural Bridge State Park, but worth the drive.

    Kristin2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing, cozy cabin that envelopes you in mountain hospitality and fun decor! My 4-year adored the space & kept finding new and fun touches! YOu will NOT be disappointed if you rent this cabin!

Bring your friends and your tent or hammock! Primitive sites aren't designated - you can camp just about anywhere on our hundred acre farm, but only ONE tent per reservation, additional guests $5. Choose to stay close to the kitchen and bath-house or hike up the mountain for privacy and seclusion. Campers can use the large, communal fire pit near the pavilion or bring a portable, above-ground version. Wood can be gathered for free from the forest or purchased in bundles.

Tater Knob pottery is less than 2.5 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if our bikes are functioning properly, you can go for a ride. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Speaking of bikes, HomeGrown HideAways is just a short jaunt away from the TransAmerican Bicycle Trail. During the summer, you are quite likely to see folks riding through the hills and enjoying the scenery. Sometimes they even come stay with us!
  • Such a lovely time at your tree farm. I sincerely appreciate your hospitality and the wonderful place that you both have created, and continue to develop. Y'all are lovely. Your flexibility in booking and arrival was truly appreciated. The dedicated way in which you are approaching the challenges with COVID-19 is exemplary. What a wonderful atmosphere to get away - even if it's just a few miles away. Sincerely, Tim, MJ & Tom

  • We love visiting Homegrown Hideaways so much! Thank you again to our hosts who are warm, welcoming and just lovely people. And the farm is so beautiful too! Picturesque but cozy too. We adore it!

    Heather2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • It offers a great variety of camping opportunities -- from a teepee, to a tree-house, to your own tent set up in a primitive field. The hosts and dogs are friendly and unobtrusive. The night sky was amazing!!! I only wish that I could have spent more time there to explore the trails and enjoy a bonfire.

    Kelly2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • One of my favorite places!

    Sarah2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at HomeGrown HideAway's and I loved it even more than the first time. I took the tent camping option--much cheaper than sleeping at a park campground and a lot more amenities. If you want you can use their kitchen to cook food, and there's a big fridge with plenty of space. It's quiet and beautiful on their property and if I hadn't had to keep traveling I would have stayed longer. Definitely my first choice for an inexpensive, lovely outdoors option in Berea. I can't wait to try one of their other options, like the tipi or the airstream.

    Jen2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts! We loved the hiking trail and having the host's dogs join us as our "guide" dogs. Amenities were just what you needed. They gave us great recommendations of local places to hike and visit. We really hope to come back one day.

The cabin is about 13 miles from McKee town where there are places to eat and grocery shop. It is also about 15 miles from Berea, the Historic Boone Tavern. We are by the Pinnacle and multiple other hiking and riding trails close by. Information about nearby areas and activities will be provided. Very spacious and comfy with plenty of places to park. There are stairs leading to the front door, there is also a back door with no stairs. Central heat and air as well as a pellet stove.
The cabin is located 1 mile from my house. It is in a very quiet and peaceful area in the mountains. This is an entire cabin, pet friendly with WiFi, Firestick, and a fire pit plus more. The space is suitable for up to 6 people.
  • You can expect a perfect cabin getaway, very private and plenty of hiking in the surrounding area.

  • We stayed in Kaitlyns cabin for one night just to get off the road from travelling. Was a quaint little cabin with lots of privacy. We were pleasantly surprised to see there was coffee pods, lots of towels and blankets for use. We really wish we had more time to explore the area and stay an extra day in the cabin. We will definitely come back 😊

    Alicia2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a wonderfully cozy cabin for a weekend getaway!! The couch and chair were super comfy, the table was perfect for board games and dinner, there’s a fire pit with adorable christmas lights in the tree above it, and the beds were comfortable. The upstairs room has two twin beds plus one rollout twin bed. We brought in everything we needed food-wise and drove ~35 minutes to a nice hike in nearby Daniel Boone National Forest. This couldn’t have been a more perfect spot!!

    Nicole2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kaitlyn was very quick to respond and the cabin was the perfect getaway with lots of hiking around the area, including some beautiful hidden waterfalls extremely nearby!

This cabin is on 30 acres next to my house. The view is breathtaking! The cabin is small, charming, ideal for one or two people. It has a sweet, peaceful vibe. It's cozy and clean with a glam-rustic feel, but not luxurious. It overlooks a small lake and is on a steep hill six miles outside of Berea. The cabin has Wi-fi with AmazonPrime and Netflix. We are very close to hiking at The Pinnacles -- in the country but close enough to town to enjoy what it has to offer.
Although someone will be on the grounds, you can have as little or as much privacy as you like. I have a small American Eskimo dog who is friendly as can be. She is mostly in the house with me. Although she initially barks when she hears strangers she pipes down almost immediately. I think the most outstanding thing about this cabin is that it's in such a peaceful and beautiful setting. The cabin is small but equipped with just about all extras.
This cabin is outside of town a bit. If you need something quickly there's a gas station and Dollar General about a mile down the road. Otherwise, Berea is full of magic and wonder, and there are some great things to do and see. And some good restaurants.
  • What a view!

    Christopher2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • It’s hard to put into words how much I loved this cabin. The views were absolutely breathtaking to wake up to. Sitting on the porch watching our dogs play while drinking coffee was so relaxing. All of the small details in this cabin made us feel so welcomed. It is sometimes hard to find pet friendly places to stay and Linda goes above and beyond to make you and your pups feel at home. Also, the location is amazing! So close to hiking the pinnacles which is exactly what we came to do.

    Anne2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve been staying at Airbnb’s for the past 3 years and this is by far our favorite. Wonderful space that was peaceful and in a beautiful location. We will definitely be back.

  • Spectacular views. Cozy cabin. Loved it! Hope to go back.

    Leslie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • I came back a week later to stay at Linda's cabin, because it was so wonderful the first time, and I wanted to enjoy it again. I'm so glad I did. I will think often of watching the lovely morning mist rise off the lake in the early morning while I drank my coffee. Just gorgeous.

    Amy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's cabin is a cozy getaway, perfect for a retreat. It's beautifully appointed, and the view out the front door is breathtaking. Only a short drive to the Pinnacles, which offer some great hiking trails. Great value, and a lovely spot! Perfect for writers!

    Amy2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Location is great providing such a beautiful view. Accommodations were superb. Felt so at home. Close to Pinnacles which we enjoyed hiking Gracious hosts

    Darlene2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Linda's place. She was out of town during our visit, but her husband was available and very helpful. The place was perfect for a friend and I and my two pups. Her husband even treated us to homemade banana bread with local amish almond butter for breakfast! The view from the porch is breathtaking, and the cabin itself is spotless, homey, and comfortable. I can't wait to come back!

  • This room was perfect for a place to sleep while on a hiking trip for Memorial Day weekend. No frills (except a TV which we didn't use) but a cool (AC) place for a night with a shower too! We had a late check-in as our day hike and finding dinner took a while but Sharyn messaged us to check in and make sure we were OK and had arrived safely.

Set in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest the Arthur Lakes Log Cabin is both easy to get to and relatively secluded. Nestled in a small valley, the quaint cabin is a perfect mountain getaway. Built in 1890, by the Lakes family, it has a romantic, rustic and nostalgic feel. If you are a history buff, interested in Appalachian culture, or just want a charming, outdoorsy and secluded getaway, this cabin is for you. After making your reservation, be sure to check out the "House Manual".
As they say, "you can't judge a book by its cover". This holds especially true for the "Arthur Cabin". Built in 1890 for William Lakes, Arthur and his wife, Lulu, moved in when William passed away. Arthur added the clapboard siding and the lean-to kitchen area in 1925. In the late 1970's Fletcher and Anne Gabbard ( my parents) purchased the property and added the front porch and rear deck, The interior looks much like it did in the 1920's.
The cabin is close to several hiking trails. Flat Lick Falls is a popular destination and boasts a 30 foot waterfall, interesting geologic formations and well maintained hiking trails. (20 minutes from cabin) The Sheltowee Trace Trail is also nearby and is open to hikers, bikers, horses and ATV's. "Sheltowee" was Daniel Boone's nickname, given to him by the Shawnees and means "Big Turtle". This trail is 319 miles long and traverses the Commonwealth from Tennessee to Ohio. The Pinnacles (40 minutes from cabin) is known for its beautiful overlooks. Multiple trails are well maintained and easy to follow. A great spot to day hike. Farther afield is Berea (45 minutes from the cabin.), where The Boone Tavern and a variety of activities are located. In Berea, a small college town, there is a great pizza place, fudge shop and shopping. The Boone Tavern makes some of the best bread pudding in Kentucky and Berea is known for its unique artistry and crafts.
  • What an adorable cabin. Left feeling refreshed after a weekend in the woods. Was so nice to disconnect-- you can tell that this cabin is loved.

  • This place is great. I NEVER write reviews on these however if you’re looking to get away with your wife or spouse, this place is perfect. We bought groceries in Berea and took them with us for meals. The place includes a coffee maker, cooking pots and pans, utensils, towels, plates and cups. It was fantastic. We also hiked the flat lick falls area with the dogs and that was perfect. There is no tv, internet, wifi or cell service but that’s exactly what we needed.

    Jordan2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is beautiful and the sounds of nature are unbeatable. We had a wonderful weekend away from the city and just got off the grid. This is the perfect place to go. Amenities and everything were perfect and Fletch has thought through everything beforehand.

    Kamal2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to go if you want to disconnect from your busy life. The pond and walking trails on Fletcher's property aren't something that you get at most places and we're definitely a nice touch. If you are planning on leaving the cabin and exploring the area, be sure to look up things to do and get directions before you arrive, since there is no cell service until you get a few miles down 89.

    Adam2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at this gem of a cabin. Exceeded our expectations even. The hike on the property was a real bonus. Do your research on the area. When they say ‘no service’ for cell / internet they mean it. There’s not much around so be prepared for that . Once you’re there head up 89north if you want a scenic drive.

    Billy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect getaway to disconnect and relax. This cabin has great amenities and a super comfy bed - the most luxurious cabin we’ve ever stayed in. It has cute touches! The outdoor decking was lovely for a chillax and the lounge perfect for a cozy evening in playing board games! Great heating for fall and winter nights! Can’t recommend this place enough!

    Laura2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place that you can disconnect, this is the place! We truly enjoyed our stay in this lovely historic cabin! Thank you Fletcher for sharing with us!

    Wendy2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, idyllic location and cabin! My fur terrorists came along, they were exhausted and enjoyed roaming around as far as their tethers would allow. The cabin itself was immaculate, with a big comfy bed and darling deco throughout the cabin and the outbuildings. The cabin is secluded and I think we saw 10 cars total the whole weekend. I also love that there isn't a TV, no internet and no cell service. There's a landline in the cabin, which is all you really need. There's also several really good books, one of which I devoured while sitting on the back porch. Fletcher is a wonderful host! GPS took me the wrong direction on the road, and he met me - at 11 p -to ensure I made it to the cabin. I highly recommend this host and location, I didn't want to leave!

It's a real treat to see all the wildlife in the area, such as deer, and wild turkey roaming around!

  • This place was one of a kind, perfectly located, wonderfully set up, clean and felt so much like home! The area was beautiful and some place I could see ourselves coming back to! It felt safe, secure and made me very satisfied, especially since our family came with our little girls. So for that, I also appreciate them more for such a lovely place and something that I had less to worry about. We will definitely be back, I recommend staying here very much!

  • This house is nice and the area surrounding it is beautiful and the views are breathtaking! My husband and I have a 7 month old and a 6 year old and the space was very accommodating for all of us! It’s definitely worth it to stay here! The driveway takes a bit to get used to but other than that I can’t find anything negative to say! Also it’s not too far away from things either. We would definitely stay again!

    Emma2020-03-29T00:00:00Z

If you are looking to "disconnect", you'll definitely disconnect at England's Retreat. There is no cell phone service available. Enjoy the butterflies gently fluttering among the wildflowers, resting on the petals from time to time before going on their way. Listen as the sweet melodies of the songbirds break the silence of the morning.
Three Links is a beautiful and quiet neighborhood. The lane is gravel and does have occasional places with pot holes. Three Links is located in a rural area, with long, winding, curvy roads that can be challenging to drivers at night, but has some beautiful views to enjoy as you travel to your destination during the day.
  • England’s retreat lives up to, if not, beyond expectation. It is the perfect home away from home for the weekend. It was a last minute trip and staying here made it very worth it. The lockbox is hard to find, but it is also in a great obvious place. The dogs are great and definitely add a more secure and safe feeling since people are not really around. The WiFi and cable tv came in handy, but it was nice not having cell service - really added to the seclusion of the place. It is also located in a great spot. Rhonda was an amazing host.

    Kevin2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is really nice! We booked it in the hopes of getting away from everything one night, and it was really special. We loved their two dogs, Bear and Bella, who came to visit us and hang out! This place was very serene and we had everything we needed. It was a lovely stay!

    Jessica2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • England’s Retreat was such a peaceful and beautiful little weekend get away for me and my boyfriend. The house was sparkling clean and had lots of recommendations for fun things to do in the area.

Rhonda goes WAY above and beyond for her guests and we had absolutely everything we needed and more during our stay. The area is also wondering for hiking. There are plenty of fun restaurants in Berea.

The Wabi Sabi Studio is an eclectic and art-filled 700 sq. ft. cabin with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Floor to ceiling windows overlook a meandering creek, forested hills, and HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred-acre farm, campground, and event facility. The resident cat, Glenda, won't be much company since she is very shy, but you may catch sight of her if you're lucky. Guests have complete access to the farm, including the rugged 1.5 mile hiking trail and farm tours are available upon request.
The Wabi Sabi Studio is part of HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred-acre farm, campground, and event facility featuring treehouses, yurts, tipi, a playground, and a covered pavilion plus gardens, orchard, chickens, and dogs. The neighbors goats occasionally wander over for a visit and there are tons of wild birds to watch.
HomeGrown HideAways is on a 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Tater Knob pottery is less than 2.5 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if you happen to have your bike with you, you can go for a ride.
  • This cabin could not have been more perfect for what we were looking to do. The home overlooks a beautiful creek in the backyard. We couldn’t help but to sink our toes into the cool clear water, then dried off by the fire pit. There is even a hiking trail available on the farm. The cabin itself is filled with the neatest pieces, quotes, photos, etc from all over the world. Wish we would have had more time to take it all in.

  • The Wabi-Sabi studio is a charming space with all the amenities and beautiful views. It has all you need-an some more. Even the lack of a cell phone connection is a blessing when you are unplugging for a weekend. The cabin is full of details, beautiful objects, and art, which made us feel at home. Thank you for all the cozy details! We will be back for sure.

  • If you want to unplug and spend time being comforted this is the place. It is such a cozy, warm and nurturing environment perfect for resetting and recharging. Enjoy cuddling up with a book and a hot cup of chamomile in front of the fire, soak in a warm relaxing bubble bath in the beautiful claw foot tub and then sink in to the comfortable bed for a peaceful nights sleep where you wake up to the enchanting views of this beautiful land. I will definitely be back.

  • The Wabi Sabi studio is perfect for a quiet weekend. The cozy cabin was a great little space with so many cool things on the walls to look at. Mary Ellen has a really interesting style. If you want somewhere to escape of a while, this is perfect for you; there’s no service out in the hills so we weren’t bothered by work calls or news of any sort (though there is a phone in case of emergencies). Loved the stay, would definitely come back!

    Linju2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Having been to Homegrown Hideaways several times before, I knew that the accommodations and welcoming hosts would be nothing less than warm, welcoming, and beyond any expectations I would have. I had never stayed in Mary Ellen's but I have to say, the cabin was all those things and more! Extremely comfortable and full of life. Filled with personal treasures from all over the world, it was exciting to know so much adventure is represented in a place perfect for rest and relaxation. Jessa and Nathan have always been the most hospitable of hosts and Mary Ellen's place fits perfectly with the magic and wonder yo be found in all parts of Homegrown Hideaways. Will definitely be returning for another visit soon!

  • We came in from Indiana, upon arrival we were immediately welcomed. The special touches and passion this couple has for others really shows. Our room was spacious and clean as a whistle. On top of the friendship we were offered, their breakfast was amazing ( especially Readiths biscuits). 10 out of 10!!! Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!!!

  • This place is A*M*A*Z*I*N*G. Seriously, We were looking for a place to just stay a couple nights and we ended up not wanting the leave at the end. Gregory and Readith are the best hosts. When she found out that I was gluten free, She made me gluten free peanut butter cookies. My favorite! The property is wonderful, beds are comfortable and there great hiking nearby. You should seriously stay here. We will definitely return.

This couple makes a great breakfast and even better company. Couldn’t have asked for a more lovely experience :)

Our 2-story log cabin (approx. 1,700 sq. ft.) provides plenty of outdoor refreshment with a spacious front porch and back deck with a dual gas/charcoal grill, balcony, wooden swing, and a firepit with plenty of cut firewood. It sits within a private holler on 105 acres along the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Our dream cabin (approx. 1,700 sq. ft.) includes repurposed barn wood from two barns that Shawn dismantled in IN. The location is close to many outdoor activities including ATV and horse trails close by and a 20-minute drive to the artisan town of Berea. If you prefer a quiet get-away, our cabin is in a holler, in the woods, providing privacy in a natural setting.
This is a perfect retreat in the mountains of Kentucky. The cabin is in a private setting and is close to many outdoor retreats as well as the well-known Berean artisan area in Madison county.

Secluded, yet close to town and college. This home offers a double bed and private bath upstairs, and shared use of gathering, dining, and kitchen spaces, including the refrigerator.
Front porch (gorgeous view) and grounds are also available for guest use, except for area around the other home on the property. The pool is off limits due to health guideline restrictions.
My end of the holler setting means that it is usually quiet here. However, on occasion people hiking the pinnacle feel compelled to offer their voices to the wind.
  • What a beautiful place tucked into the woods. The house was full of charm and character. It was a peaceful stay. Pat was very kind and hospitable. I would come again next time I am in the area.

  • 100/100 stars!  Ah I am so sad I had to leave!  Pat's place blew all my expectations out of the water.  One of my most favorite airbnb's of all time.   First, you will never meet someone as lovely as Pat no matter where you go.  She is full of love and light.  She is knowledgeable on so many topics - from health to social justice to psychology.  I just adored learning from her and also experiencing the BEST sleep of my life because of how she applies health principles to her home!  Ask her more in person you'll love what you learn :) The home is gorgeous and the room is beautiful!  So much privacy as well.  You have basically the second floor to yourself.  There's a study room across from the airbnb bedroom but Pat never used it while I was there.  Impeccably clean everything! If you like warm colors and art you're in for a treat.  If you like being in nature you're in for a treat.  If you like having full amenities you're in for a treat.  Basically you're in for a treat no matter what lol.  It's AMAZING here and you'll be lucky to meet Pat. Just don't book it when I want the room please :). 100/100

    Jas2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Another 100/100 stars of course. Extended my stay and it just kept getting better. Love it here and recommend driving in the daytime so you can enjoy the Kentucky countryside and all the cute houses in the area (and cows and horses)!

    Kayla2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

The Nook is a secluded, off-grid, screened-in porch nestled between the forest and a creek. It's very rustic, but has a futon bunk (single top, full-size bottom) as well as 2 more full-size futons. There are mattresses on the full-sized beds, but you'll need to bring your own sleeping bag We're in the process of upgrading it from its former life as a tent and will update pictures. Note: Parking is across the creek from the site so you will need to walk across a bridge to access the Nook.
HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred acre holler in the beautiful Red Lick Valley near Berea, Ky. We have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, noisy roosters, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights.
  • Kitchen. Shower. Dogs. Chickens. Garden. Reasonably priced. Beautiful scenery. And so on. What else do you need?

  • This location is a MUST if you are in the Berea area or looking for a little getaway from the world. The host is incredibly nice and understanding, even after a mix up that I caused. Screenshot the details of the visit because you won't have any internet connection, but it is 100% worth it. Thank you for the stay!

    Christopher2020-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our family stayed at the nook and yome for 1 night. We had 2 adults (the grandparents from AZ) in the yome and 4 adults + 6 kids in the nook. We set up camp at the yome since it had a nice area for the kids to play, water, outhouse, and fire pit. Everyone slept in the nook comfortably with the addition of an air mattress and the grandparents loved the Yome. We had a wonderful experience and can't want to stay there in the future!

  • HomeGrown HideAways was exactly what I was looking for. Remote enough to be quiet and dark, but close enough to take part in the happenings in Berea. I will definitely stay there again.

  • The Elizabeth is a wonderful and quite comfortable place to stay and a great starting point to explore the area. We appreciated the attention to detail from the host in making sure everything was ready for us when we arrived!

  • We were very happy with the accommodations. Better than expected. The space is larger than it seems and very thoughtful setup. The beds were very comfortable!

    Stacey2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous, modern, and brand new furniture and appliances. Beautiful interior, neat and tidy. Most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on. Memory foam made it feel like I was sleeping on a cloud. Would highly recommend, and would definitely use this place in the future.

  • Super clean, Great kitchen supplies, thoughtfully decorated and blackout curtains to boot so you can sleep in. Top notch towels and comforter. A little difficult to find at first but once you find it, it's easy to get back to it. Lovely view of the hills from the windows especially with the fall colors. AC and heat works well.

Treat yourself to a private getaway in this barn-house that combines country living with easy access to the best of Berea and McKee. From relaxing in the bright and airy sunporch while sipping on your morning coffee provided by the Keurig, to watching your favorite shows in the cozy TV room, you’ll certainly want to stay a while.
This structure was once my great-uncle’s barn. Several years ago the barn was converted into a dwelling. We have recently completed the sunporch, and updated the barn-house to make it even more comfortable and enjoyable. We have a queen-size bed, a full-size bed, and when needed a full-size air mattress. We provide a DVD player and a smart TV so guests can log into their Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook a great meal, but you will need to bring your own food. We provide coffee, small snacks, and locally-sourced bottled water. Nearby is a 24-hour convenience gas station, with a small restaurant that serves food all day (breakfast is served until approximately 10 a.m.). My personal favorite is the “Hunt Brothers” thin crust pizza. We are 10 minutes from The Pinnacles hiking trails in Berea. We are less then 15 minutes from Berea College, historic Boone Tavern restaurant, and PapaLeno’s Italian restaurant. The nearest Walmart is 20 minutes away. We are 10 minutes from the courthouse in McKee, and 20 minutes from Flat Lick Falls in Gray Hawk.
  • We had such an amazing time at this adorable barn in a relaxing atmosphere. Chad was so unbelievably helpful and always so quick to respond. Cannot wait to come back!

    Brooklyn2020-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is the third time that we have stayed here, and we love it. You have the hole place to yourself and there is no one else nearby. The space is very big, the kitchen is fully stocked with what you need for cooking, and the area around the Barn House is beautiful!! Such a great area. I would highly recommend this location for anyone looking for somewhere to get away from "the real world."

    Justin2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying at Chads place! Full of all needed amenities and thoughtful touches to make your stay perfect.

    Megan2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly awesome. It has a great country decor. The house was immaculate. We had fun playing pool in the sunroom. There was supplies for just about every need. Chad (host) was very quick to respond to everything (within minutes). This is great place to stay to get away from everyday routine.

    Jason2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Quick little trip but we loved every minute staying at Chads place. The space is cute, beds comfy, amenities incredible. Great stay!

    Carissa2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Barn on the Hill provided a peaceful, comfortable weekend getaway. The dwelling is on beautiful farm property, and is a great base from which to explore the town of Berea and local hiking trails. Chad was an excellent communicator from start to finish, and recommended that I visit the Pinnacles at Indian Fort Theater, located between his place and Berea. I had a great time hiking there. Accommodations were comfortable, super clean, and cozy, and offer every modern amenity one could want. The selection of lotions, soaps, was also a thoughtful touch. If we are ever in the Berea again, I’d jump at the opportunity to stay at the Barn on the Hill!

    Caryl2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

Cool space with lots unique features, including its very own water wheel! 1 bedroom, open floor plan, sleeps 2-4. Close to hiking, crafts, Berea College, with beautiful views, and within a short drive to lots of central Kentucky destinations.
Richard Martin, a green designer/builder in the Berea area for more than 30 years, built the 'Little House' in the mid-'90s as his personal residence. The house has unique features of the house (including its very own water wheel!) and is perfect for that couple's get-away or writer's retreat. The home features passive solar design with windows spanning the south side of the home with loads of natural light. The open floor plan includes a loft bedroom that overlooks the living area. If you are looking for a unique place to stay, with beautiful views, close to hiking and outdoor activities, and within a short drive to lots of central Kentucky destinations, this is it!
The house is located outside of Berea. Known as the "Folk Arts and Crafts capital of Kentucky", Berea is home to a thriving population of weavers, instrument makers, furniture artisans, jewelry designers, glass workers, potters, painters, sculptors, and musicians. The story of Berea’s artisan community is interwoven with the historic Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Berea has a longstanding tradition of diversity, social justice, environmental responsibility, and community service. Both college and town are committed to the practice of sustainability and conservation, so you can see why Mr. Martin's skills were in high demand. Berea College owns and maintains over 8,000 acres of forest, including numerous hiking trails within a few miles of the house. Berea is located in central Kentucky, 40 miles south of Lexington, on the border of Bluegrass Region and the Cumberland Plateau in the foothills of Kentucky's Appalachian mountains. Berea is located in the southern end of Madison County, which is one of the fastest growing areas in Kentucky. It is rich in heritage and history. The County is unique in that it has two townships, Berea, and the larger, Richmond, just 12 miles to the north. The County sits next to Fayette County with the Kentucky River as its border. The northern end of the county just is minutes away from Lexington.
  • We had a great stay, the pictures don't do justice to how great it looks with all the natural light from all the windows and skylights! Feels very secluded, but its not a crazy drive to groceries, food, hiking, etc. Would love to come back soon!

    Breanna2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best places we ever stayed in. The record collection in the cabin alone is worth the drive to Berea. We'd gladly stay there again!

    Barry2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place for two. Very private, which is good because there are no drapes. Stairs are a challenge, inside and out. Inside hand rail does not allow one to hold on while descending without removing your Hand and regripping between the pickets. To me it felt awkward.

    James2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Little House served as the perfect anniversary getaway. The home has so many cool, unique touches and is inviting and comfy (including the bed, which is super comfy) - and the views from the deck are amazing. We enjoyed starting our days drinking coffee on the deck, shopping and dining in Berea (just a short drive) during the day and early evening, then sipping wine while star gazing on the deck at night. Idyllic!

  • We had the most amazing weekend camping on the porch here. Our 4 year old was enamored from the moment we got here - a perfect place to get away. Our host added perfect touches to the campsite, such as a grill over the firepit and a light to see by at night. The dogs were the most loveable creatures you've ever met. We especially loved playing in the creek right by the campsite.

  • This place rocks!!! Jessa is an amazing host. The property is gorgeous! Camping accommodations could not have been better ! Definitely recommend !

    Michael2020-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • HomeGrown HideAways is my absolute favorite camping spot! You’re able to really disconnect and get in to the camping experience! They have several options so campers of all levels and types (glampers, beginners, backpack-style, etc.) can have a great experience! Jessa and Nathan (and their lovely dogs) make for the best welcoming committee anyone could ask for! There’s plenty of space, so if you want to be away from other people, you’re set, but there’s also a community style to it that lets you get to know your other campers if everyone is feeling friendly. The outhouses and bath house are always clean, and the ladies’ restroom has some lovely paintings that make for a nice touch :) We stayed on the porch and had a great experience! You’re really only a few minutes from town if you need to go in, but there is so little need!! We stayed the night and then hiked at Anglin Falls (about a ten minute drive away) before coming back and making hotdogs over the fire in the fire pit they have in the glamming area. There is gravel access to most of the property spaces, so you can get in and out pretty easily! Drive slow coming in, it’s a one lane for a short distance, and be prepared for a FANTASTIC camping experience! You’re really in for a treat at HomeGrown HideAways!

    Ashley2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic campsite with so much to offer - one night wasn’t enough! Great hosts and incredible value.

  • The Front Porch is so fun! The kids ended up using it as a "stage" at night, to perform a flashlight dance!

    Andrea2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third stay here. This nook in the mountains is heaven and the hosts are so gracious. They provide a roof, clean bathrooms, and beautiful scenery and walking path over the ridge.

    Lisa2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • As a camper and backpacker, it was so fantastic to have access to a full kitchen and not have to worry about packing so much gear! I really appreciate Jessa & Nathan's commitment to sustainable living (great to see the solar panels & composting available) and everything was helpfully labeled so you knew how to take care and be a responsible guest. The farm is gorgeous and I loved seeing so many stars and the Milky Way at night!

    Barbara2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • First off this was my first camping experiences on Airbnb. I fell completely in love with the scenery!! Waking up in the morning and looking in direction to see mountains, and greenery!! The two door "saddlebag" cabin is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest and near McKee, a Kentucky Trailtown. Nestled in a small valley, our quaint cabin is the perfect mountain getaway. Built in 1894, by the Lakes family, it has a romantic, rustic and nostalgic feel. If you are a history buff, interested in Appalachian culture, or just want a charming, outdoorsy and secluded getaway, this cabin is for you. After making your reservation, be sure to check out the "House Manual".
  • We had a blast hiking the trails and hanging out by the pond!

    Matt2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second visit to the log cabin and it felt like coming home! It is incredibly cozy and the history of the cabin is incredible. We took a walk around the property and down the road, but because we were a little under the weather, spent the majority of our time cozied up to the wood burning stove. Until our own cabin is built, we will keep returning! This part of Kentucky is gorgeous. It is in the heart of the Daniel Boone Forest and the Sheltowee trail crosses, right down the road. There are also other national forest trails nearby. Check the All Trails app.

    Wendy2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a special space!! I was looking forward to disconnecting in a rustic, cozy cabin. I was able to do exactly what I wanted on my trip (disconnecting from the hustle/bustle in a big city), and the cabin itself made a huge impression on me. This is a unique historical property. The hearth and building date back to 1894. We loved learning about the history of this home and the family that owned it. Fletcher has done an amazing job maintaining the history of the place, while giving it just enough updates to keep you comfortable. Don't expect tv, cell service, or wifi. DO anticipate falling in love with rural Kentucky, scenic landscapes, good conversation with your travel companions, and peaceful solitude. Thank you for having us!!

    Cameron2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fletcher's cabin is ideally located within Daniel Boone National Forest. It is easy to drive north to Red River Gorge, or south to other areas of the forest. The cabin sits on idyllic grounds and made my first trip to Kentucky very memorable. Fletcher is very communicative and made everyone feel welcome. I recommend this home to anyone staying in the area.

    Christopher2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This property is perfect to get away from the city. There is no cell phone reception, no TV --- just a delightfully beautiful log cabin on an equally charming property. Fletcher has provided all the necessities that one would need. I hope that you all enjoy this little piece of perfect as much as we did.

    Sarah2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place to relax. No cell phone service, no internet, no TV...no problems! Beautiful, peaceful, quiet. You will unplug, but you will find you are re-charged when you leave. You get to live a bit of history, it was fun to learn about the history of the cabin. The surrounding woods and trails are just waiting to be explored.

    Dan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning property with enough to explore/enjoy just from walking out the front door, cabin had met all our needs, love the originality, host was very accommodating. Top notch!

Lodging is in a large twin-bedded room with a sofa and chairs, private bath. Both guest rooms are upstairs, providing added privacy. Breakfast is included in the listed price. Sometimes additional meals can be arranged for an additional fee when scheduling permits.
Quite rural setting close to town. Guests can walk in woods or on country lanes and may see wildlife such as deer, turkeys, foxes, raccoons, etc., along with many types of birds.

  • Fantastic hospitality! Reccomend food and fun stuff to check out, loved the friendly shepherd dog "moose". Comfortable beds and nice high volume shower head. My GPS led me right there but her additional directions helped as well.

  • Theresa is a wonderful host! We had a great breakfast with a nice conversation. Her place is awesome!

    Wim2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wish I had more time to visit with Theresa. She seems to have a wealth of information on spiritual direction. Kindred spirits for sure. The room upstairs is clean and spacious with a library I would have dived into had I not arrived just before dusk and left by 5:30 am next morning. I have 3 dogs and 1 cat myself... so I prefer an Airbnb with some canine/feline companionship. All 3 gave me some love. As Theresa says, they stay downstairs... Moose the German Shepherd wins the award “most soulful eyes” for sure. She encouraged me to travel the parkway home vs 75, saved me close to an hour. Very grateful for the good nights sleep ... facilitated by the gentle sounds of birds and frogs from the forest.

  • Rene and Andy offer an excellent bed and breakfast experience. Super good hosts, just core of the earth great people that you can't help but feeling like they'd been friends for years. We'll come back next time we're in the area.

  • What a great weekend getaway! Rene’s B&B was a little off the beaten path, but still very convenient to town and Berea College. The room had its own private bathroom, was very spacious and clean, and the bed was comfy. We felt very comfortable here and enjoyed the fact that the other rooms downstairs weren’t booked, so we had the whole floor to ourselves. We were traveling with our dog and Rene’ was very accommodating, even snagging our dog a special treat from the farmer’s market during our stay. Our dog enjoyed some outside time on the property, as there was lots of space for her to run around. Breakfast was such a highlight of staying at Rene’s! She asked when we wanted to eat, checked ahead for dietary needs, and had a full spread ready at that time both days we were there. Everything was sooooo tasty, coffee was flowing, and we especially loved that some local heirloom tomatoes were part of the spread. I would definitely recommend staying with Rene’ and Andy! They were great hosts and really made us feel at home.

  • Rene has opened her home and space, 27 acres to be exact, to others and offered her generous hospitality to us during our stay! She truly made us feel welcome and comfortable. Her homemade breakfast feasts will have you feeling like royalty. The house is spotlessly clean and well decorated, with a nice hot tub to soak in outside. The property is quiet and secluded, and she and her husband are more than happy to show you the grounds, garden, and barn with animals or even help at feeding times. She and her husband also provide lots of recommendations of local sites of interest based on your preferences, as they have extensive knowledge of the region and its history. We'd love to come back!!

  • Staying at Rene’s place is the ultimate Berea experience! Rene and Andy combine a genuine passion for hospitality with homegrown stories and perspective on the community. The location is private, but close to town and there are truly gorgeous views at every turn. The house is lovingly designed and built with comfort and convenience in mind, and we were comfortable and had everything we needed in our room. The hot tub was a definite bonus! My daughter and I very much enjoyed staying at Rene’s place and look forward to return visits.

  • My husband and I stayed in Bea’s Berea Room, a spacious and comfortable room. The king bed was very comfortable. The room is very quiet even with the fan on! The shower was nice with soap, shampoo, and lotion provided. Our communication with Rene was very good; we told her when we would arrive for our stay and return in the evening so she would know when the house was secured. She encouraged us to text her for anything we needed. We needed the WiFi password and she responded promptly. She asked when we would like breakfast and if we had any restrictions. Breakfast was ready as planned and it was delicious! The property is beautiful and you need to at least walk out to the back yard and swing in the gazebo. I watched the sun come up and spied a hummingbird at a feeder. I loved being able to leave my husband to sleep longer and make myself some coffee and watch TV first thing in the morning. This was in the guest’s common living space. We had just one night in Rene’s home, but we’d love to come back again!

Skip the tent and upgrade to the sleek, silver comfort of the Airstream Dream. Panoramic views of the creek and mountians, plus heat/AC, microwave, and coffee. Visit our profile to see all our lodging options. Please note: the Airstream is small and not well suited to people over 6-foot tall.
HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred acre holler in the beautiful Red Lick Valley near Berea, Ky. We have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, barking dogs, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights. The Airstream is mostly set up for sleeping, but does have a microwave, small coffee maker, and refrigerator. Due to our lack of septic, the toilet is off limits, but an outhouse is nearby and the bath house is open from ~April to ~October (weather dependent). The sinks and shower inside the camper are set up on a graywater system and will be available to use when temperatures remain steadily above freezing. While it IS possible to do a bit of cooking in the camper, you are also welcome to make use of the Courtesy Kitchen which has a stove, double oven, microwave, coffee maker (and coffee), refrigerator, and a farm stand which offers goodies like farm-fresh eggs and produce, firewood, charcoal, grills, and other items for sale that you may have forgotten. Cash is preferred for these items, but we can bill them to your account. We are a farm in the mountains so be prepared to encounter INSECTS (mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers), WILDLIFE (deer, turkey, snakes, toads, and dare we mention the bear track we spotted one spring?), WEATHER (hot, cold, rain, snow), TOXIC PLANTS (poison ivy, stinging nettle, wild mushrooms), just to name a few. Prepare to UNPLUG. There is no cell phone or internet reception at our place. Occasionally, some folks are able to catch a brief signal, but don't plan to have digital access. The closest place to get a decent signal is at the cemetery near the reservoir. There is a telephone you can use in our courtesy kitchen. Please leave your pets at home. In addition to the native wildlife, we have dogs, cats, chickens, and roosters to keep you company. We live in a DRY county so if you enjoy an evening libation, you'll need to BYO. Items we recommend bringing: bug spray, hiking shoes/mudboots, slippers, earplugs (sometimes the coyotes throw big parties), and shower shoes (the bath house is rustic with a concrete floor).
HomeGrown HideAways is on a 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Tater Knob pottery is ~3 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if our bikes are functioning properly, you can go for a ride. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Get Outside Ky is just 6 miles away and offers kayak rentals. They also partner with Boone Gap Outfitters for bike rentals so be sure to reach out them for adventures. The farm is just 8 miles from the Berea College Forestry Outreach Center which offers guided hikes of the Pinnacles and we're also just 20 minutes from hiking trail to Anglin Falls. Berea College also has historic tours of the college and the city of Berea is known for its many arts and crafts. Boone Creek Outdoors is about 30 minutes away and has an amazing zipline through the canopy or we are a scenic hour from multiple attractions in the Red River Gorge Geologic Area.
  • We really loved the Airstream and enjoyed being unplugged in such a peaceful and quiet place for the weekend. The creek runs right behind the camper. The outhouse was the cleanest I have ever seen. The owner gave us a really nice tour of the property upon our arrival so we got to see all of the unique places to stay. There is a kitchen if you choose to use it. The hiking trail around the property is quite nice. Very close to the Pinnacles, biking trails and Berea. There is a reservoir close by that you can walk to. The dogs on the property are friendly and not a nuisance at all. We would definitely go back. A little piece of heaven.

  • This is my second time staying at the Airstream. Very peaceful and quiet. Great place to escape to. Can't wait to go back. Thanks Jessa & Nathan for sharing your home. I already miss it!

  • The Airstream Dream was perfect for 2 guests. The owners even had the windows open and fan going before we got there. The airstream had 2 functional sinks, a shower, hot water heater, multiple outlets, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, outdoor table with chairs & umbrella, and A/C. The decor was cute and the camper was very clean. They even had fair trade coffee, teas, creamer, coffee mugs, salt, pepper, paper towels, etc all there for us. The toilet isn’t operational for use and there isn’t a fire pit at this glampsite, but the outhouse was better than expected and only about 50ft from the camper. We really enjoyed the somewhat strenuous hike around the property, and the owners were more than happy to guide us in the right direction to get started on the journey. I will definitely be returning to stay again with Homegrown Hideaways!

  • We had a great stay in the Airstream! The Airstream was neat and cozy, the outhouse was much nicer than most outhouses I’ve used before, and the location made for the perfect getaway from our regular, busy days. Communication with Nathan was so quick and easy, and they provided great directions for locating the place. We highly recommend this for those looking to get away for a short time, and look forward to returning in the future!

  • Beautiful views, beyond amazing owners, farm fresh eggs, very clean, peaceful and well worth the trip! Can't wait to bring the whole family back for an extended weekend of hiking, playing in the creek, bonfires and all around perfection!

Abi's Arboreal Abode & Hammock Haven is a 15' yurt nestled like a bird-nest 10' off the ground in a grove of walnut trees with an adjacent outhouse. This rental has electric, heat, and air with spring water provided and a fold-out table for eating and crafts. There is a centrally-located, shared-use kitchen and a seasonal (Apr - Nov) bath house. The treehouse is equipped with electricity, heat, and air conditioning. There are solar lights around the deck and a string of lights around the yurt as well as an attic fan in the roof to enhance the ventilation from the two windows. There is a spiral staircase to access the treehouse deck, but we have also installed an electric lift for getting your belongings up to the treehouse. Kids 12 and under are no additional charge. Be sure to exclude them from the number of guests, but let us know via message so we can provide enough blankets.

  • Outstanding, super clean, friendly, and welcoming! We stayed in the tree house which had lots of unique decor and attention to detail. We will for sure be back!

  • This place is fantastic. You will not regret staying here. It is so beautiful and peaceful. Our favorite parts were napping in the hammocks next to the creek, sitting by the fire next to the creek, exploring the woods and trails, looking for cool rocks and enjoying the animals. I don’t think I could have asked for a better experience. It’s just perfect.

  • The owners are kind & very hospitable. Everything is ready for you when you arrive. As far as camping, and staying in rustic cabins is concerned Homegrown Hideaway elevated the whole idea. To be able to hike, camp, in such a beautiful place, and have a bathroom near by, and a kitchen available makes it seem glamorous with a natural ease about everything. I can't say enough good things. This place feels magical to me. I almost don't want to tell you about it to keep it to myself 😁

    Glenn2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great, unique space with tons to explore - or perfect for laying around and doing nothing. Jessa and Nathan are wonderful hosts and have done an amazing job creating a little slice of peaceful paradise. Definitely worth the trip!

  • Such a cute little place with great options for staying. The hosts are so hospitable and accommodating to whatever you need. They let you know up front what to expect and do a great job of getting you familiar with the place once you are there. It was a very laid back and relaxing way to escape the city! Our kids had a great time just simply being outdoors and playing in the creek! We hope to go back soon.

    Mandy2020-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Better than expected. Had the best time. It was exactly the getaway we needed during the COVID-19 quarentine. We felt as if we were the only ones there. Very secluded and quiet. We will definitely be back.

  • We travelled to Berea from Illinois and stayed in this cabin with our family of 5 for a softball tournament. The cabin exceeded our expectations, it was sparking clean and very comfortable for all of us. It had everything we needed to cook meals, grill and provided great space for our kids to run around and play. We were very grateful for this peaceful spot to stay. The Powell family included helpful tips for our stay and were greatly appreciated. Thank you!
