Your guide to Mansfield

All About Mansfield

In the foothills of the Victorian Alps, Mansfield is a beautiful rural city and a wonderful place to spend some time connecting with nature. Mansfield sits at one end of the Great Victorian Rail Trail, which offers views of the nearby mountain pastures and bushland that is ideal for horse riding, biking, and four-wheeling.

Water activities are plentiful here, and you can rent a jet ski or boat to take out on the manmade Lake Nillahcootie, or you can spend a more relaxing day by the water. Mount Buller and Mount Stirling are less than an hour away by car, and you can ski down the legendary snow-capped slopes in the winter.

Outside of town, there’s a burgeoning vineyard scene with cellar tours, picnics, and tastings available at a few wineries.

In the city proper, you can spend time working on your short game at the local golf course, catch up on your pleasure reading at a cafe, or learn more about the history of the city at the Mansfield Historical Society.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Mansfield

Sitting in the shadow of the mountains, Mansfield’s temperature and climate stays mild and pleasant almost all year round. Winters are mild in the city, but nearby Mount Buller gets plenty of snow on its ski slopes. On the winter solstice, the Mansfield Lantern Festival fills the city with vendors, performers, and artists using light and fire as their mediums. If you’re planning on visiting in October, don’t miss the unique Mansfield High Country Festival with its colorful parades and fireworks displays.
