Accrington is a heritage 1886 farmhouse, nestled in the heart of a working 420 hectare sheep and cattle farm. A rural hideaway that warmly evokes the rich farming and coastal history of Banks Peninsula. The farmhouse will immediately pull you into the simplicity of farm life: a unique coastal country escape. Accrington is a place to reset and reconnect; with yourself, your family, your friends, and with nature. Perfect for getaways, group retreats and gatherings and road trips with friends.
The original farmhouse is crafted from hand-cut timber milled from the property over 150 years ago. Lovingly restored inside and out to meld seamlessly into the natural folds of rolling grassy paddocks and tranquil garden full of blooms and bird song. Catching all day sun the charming retreat offers an endless number of ways to unwind. Brunch on the morning veranda looking across the garden to the paddocks. Reading on the front veranda watching the wood pigeons swoop by and feed from the giant pohutakawa tree. Watch the kids enjoy the play ground or have a chat to the friendly sheep in the orchard paddock. Long lunches and dinners in the garden and nights snuggled up with a board game by the fire. Accrington has six bedrooms and can accommodate between 1 - 15 people. The design of the house ensures it to feels cosy with 1 - 2 people while the upstairs loft provides space for larger gatherings. Explore the area on foot with numerous public and private walking, cycling and hiking trials. With a range of stunning beaches within 5 - 15 minutes away their are endless options to swim, surf, kayak, paddle, fish, boat or just lie on the beach. As soon as you arrive at Accrington you will feel like you are home and never want to leave.
Accrington is located on the north eastern side of Banks Peninsula. Just 30 minutes from the French sea side town of Akaroa, 10 minutes to Okains Bay and only 2 minutes to Little Akaloa Beach. Little Akaloa is well known as one of Banks Peninsulas favourite beaches for families, with a gentle creek, sandy beach and boat ramp. Little Akaloa has two tennis courts available for public use (coin donation) and small children's playground. A nearby walkway will take you to Raupo Bay, known for its surfing. Okains Bays has a lovely general store and Colonial Museum full or history on the area and Banks Peninsula. Venture further afield to Akaora and enjoy the cafes, restaurants, galleries, walking tracks and shops. Or take a boat trip out in the harbour to see the dolphins, amazing wildlife and seascape.
  • Lovely home with great garden. Very spacious house. Great for a family and big group. Amazing beaches all around.

  • Amazing house in an amazing place! House was very well equipped with a lot of space. Close to beautiful beaches, family friendly, so much more then what you can see on the photos. Would definitely stay here again.

  • This house has great spaces, comfy beds, a host with great communication and a wonderful setting. Kids with us just loved playing in the lovely garden space while us adults enjoyed the indoor outdoor living with the comfy outdoor sofa and chairs perfect for sitting sipping a beer or a gin! Highly recommend.

  • A great place to stay. Very family friendly, well equipped, beautiful setting and very comfy beds. It’s a little off the grid, but this was just what we wanted, close enough to some beautiful bays and a lovely space to relax. Would defiantly stay here again

    Sharon2019-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place! Tranquil location, with large spacious house - lovely furnishings and thoughtful touches. There were 7 in our group and the house still felt very spacious. Great space for children - swings, lawn, kids games, good comfortable bunk beds. A great BBQ setup, and beautiful gardens. Only minutes from Little Akaloa bay - a good place to kayak with kids. Thank you Hamish for the local tips, we visited Raupo Bay several times - a beautiful beach off the beaten track. We got involved in some of the farm activities too, which was interesting. Looking forward to returning again oneday.

  • We have just had a wonderful stay at Accrington and our only regret is booking only four nights. The photos don’t do it justice. This property is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of daily city life. The absolute highlight for us was the gardens- absolutely beautiful, with plenty of room, and play equipment for the kids. You are surrounded by trees and accompanying bird song. The farm house is well set out and great for families. The kitchen had everything we needed and there’s also a Weber barbecue. We would definetly stay again.

    Lauren2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly peaceful getaway spot. Exactly as photos suggest. Great instructions to find the place and I really enjoyable weekend away.

    Amber2018-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beaut time. The house has clearly been a family home for a working farm, functional and comfortable: with a good kitchen, great bath & shower, and a super fireplace with plenty of wood to keep our toes toasted on an autumn morning. I was expecting unsealed road, but it is sealed all the way (except the occasional pothole!). Definitely had a most relaxing weekend.

Vast walking and mountain biking opportunities from the beach side over the port hills. 25 minutes into the city and 2 hour from the ski fields it is hard to beat this spot.
  • A stylish little place with a seaside feel, many thoughtful touches, tasteful decor and even the distant sound of seagulls. Close to restaurants, cafes and the beach you couldn't find better.

  • We stayed for 4 nights at Tamsin's place in Sumner and absolutely loved it! It's a great set-up in a really beautiful location. There were so many nice touches around the place and we loved meeting Beans the dog! Sumner itself is a gorgeous little town with lots to see and do nearby. I'm sure we'll be back. Thanks Tamsin (and Jenny) for being great hosts and for all your tips too!

  • Tamsin's studio is in a lovely spot and she was so helpful making my daughter and myself's stay very comfortable with lots of personal touches, Its spotlessly clean and would have definitely recommend it. Sumner is a beautiful seaside spot within driving distance of Christchurch. Nikki

  • This was a great place to stay. The location is awesome, just a couple of blocks from the ocean. We stayed one night and used the bbq and slept. It had everything we needed. Beans the dog was an added bonus for us as well, very friendly. Overall a great place!

    Oliver2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic wee spot with thoughtful touches so close to the beach. Beans the vizsla is a delight!

    Laura2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tamsin's space is exactly as described. I highly recommend the stay for anyone heading to the Sumner area. Location doesn't get much better, my partner and I enjoyed the quick walk to the beach and on to the restaurants and shops. Top notch bed and bedding, wonderful hot shower and thoughtful additions when it came to soaps, lotions, etc. Beans the Visla is an absolute gem and it made my day to have a playful pup around.

The Double Dutch Guesthouse is a quiet, cosy & comfortable home set in the serenely beautiful Okains Bay. We are a 20-acre small sheep farm only a 15-20 minute walk, 5 minute bike ride, or 2 minute drive from Okains Bay Beach - often described as the 'Best Beach on the Banks Peninsula'. We are surrounded by lush volcanic hillsides...every angle is postcard worthy. The Guesthouse is the perfect place to get away from the hustle & bustle of the city, or a start or finish to your NZ adventure!
The Guesthouse is a 3-bedroom home with an open floor-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area and washing facilities. It is situated at the entrance of a 20-acre sheep farm with easy access for multiple vehicles amongst beautiful lavender bushes and fruit trees. The owners live in the 1890s Colonial Cottage just 20 metres from the Guesthouse if you have any questions or concerns. Pots, pans, tea towels, coffee plunger, rice cooker, and a stove/oven and microwave are provided in the kitchen and all bed-linen, bath towels and beach towels are provided. There is a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, but no sky TV. The guesthouse would be suitable for couples, families, or respectful groups of friends. The main room is a king + single bed with full ensuite bathroom, and the queen bed and triple single bed rooms share a separate full bathroom. *PLEASE NOTE: The guesthouse is located on a working farm. If you are bringing children they need to be supervised on the property. Also, we charge the same additional amount ($25/day) for all humans over the age of 2, and have an 8 person total occupancy plus one portacot and high chair is available for an infant. Thank you for understanding, we find that each additional person, no matter how small, creates an additional strain on our systems and property, as well as more cleaning for us. Have a great stay :) *
Okains Bay is a small community of approximately 100 residents in the Banks Peninsula, only a 20-minute drive from the flourishing French town of Akaroa with grocery and shops. Akaroa is famous for its swimming with the dolphins, dolphin watching, sailing trips, fine dining and is a lovely and quaint township with French heritage. We are happy to advise you on the choice of operators. There is a lovely local store offering basic groceries/essentials, home baking and conversation and was opened in 1876, a local school and exceptional Museum known for its Maori and Colonial collector's items lovingly cared for by locals. The store does have limited opening hours and the Guesthouse is self-catering, so it is advised that you stop at a grocery store prior to arriving in Okains Bay for your groceries. There is a tennis court available nearby for a few dollars per use (Museum donation). We have a small supply of tennis rackets available for hire if you'd like to give it a go. There is a large children's playground with flying fox close to the beach. Our property is river-front and there are nice flat walking loops for all ability levels, including our favourite which is a 1 hour 10 minute walk down the riverbank (at low to mid-tide), across the beach to the volcanic caves, and down the charming country road back to your home away from home. Spectacular!
  • This is a lovely house in a stunning bay. Will and Resgan and their daughter made us feel at home right away. It is a remote place, 20 min drive to Akaroa. The house has everything you need. Babycot and babychair available.

    Lex2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and spacious home with AP proximity to the river. Lovely place with very little people

    Roger2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house and hospitality. Reagan and Will are so friendly and took all the time for us to show their beautiful land and feed the sheep and chicken together.

    Arjan2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • A stylish dwelling with plenty of space set in a quiet natural setting. A good locus for morning walks and a 5 minute drive to the beach.

    John2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Reagan went out of her way to make our stay special. Our youngest had a great time feeding the chickens with her and she tried her hardest to have us see the sheep but unfortunately the weather was not on our side. The fresh lavender on the beds and the aromatherapy were lovely touches. Spacious and homely, just what we needed after a cramped hotel stay.

    Lisa2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • It's a very nice place in a very nice surrounding. Will & Reagan are a lovely couple with a gorgeous wee girl. They provided us great tips for walks, supported us with a cot and high chair for our daughter and borrowed us their board to try out stand up paddling on the nearby creek. We can definitely recommend this place and would stay their again.

    Bernadette2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. Reagan and Will are lovely, the house is great (and huge!), and the surroundings are unbeatable. Please go, you won’t regret.

    Friso2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Will and Reagan's place was sparkling clean, spacious and perfect for our weekend trip. They were very flexible with the booking and they responded quickly to our messages.

Super chill little Retro Hut. *Indepedent Rural property, small, clean and safe. Double bed, little kitchen, lounge and outdoor area. Mains power and heater. Fully independent, a small walk away from funky toilets and bathroom at the back of main house. Wider property includes one other small Studio, little flower farm, outdoor kitchen and open campfire area. 1min drive to beach and bushwalks close by. 20min drive to Akaroa for dolphins, shopping and good coffee. Come and relax and unwind.
Banks Peninsula is a gem in the New Zealand scenery. Pigeon Bay specifically gives you an experience of the outer bays, which are more rural and quieter than the inner harbour and Akaroa. The property is run organically and intuitively. I honour the potential to live holistically in balance from the physical to the spiritual, and offer my place as a place to rest and practise this balance. I am a meditative artist and modern Palm Reader (not fortune teller as the lines on the palm change) with an office in Akaroa. I offer readings for guests. I also grow and sell Indoor Plants and cut flowers 🌸. I believe the world is constantly evolving and is in the midst of great technological, ecological and spiritual change. I aim to provide a place to rest, balance and settle in these modern times.
  • This place is awesome! It's so worth it even for just a night's stay at Fiona's hut. The place is tiny but it had everything we needed and it had such a beautiful and peaceful setting overlooking all of the sheep and cows next to the hut!

  • This was the second visit in a few months for me - I took my daughter back for a treat away from the family before the birth of her third baby. Verity & Martin have a beautiful home in a tranquil and peaceful rural setting. They cooked us a delightful evening meal which was of high-class restaurant standard. This is a great hideaway only 45kms from Christchurch. Their home is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean with lots of nice touches such as home made bikkies with their homegrown pinenuts. A beautiful spot set in a great garden with a very nice hot tub looking out over the bay. Plus Pinenut the very fetching kitten.

    Debbie2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful last night in NZ at Verity’s place. The location is wonderful and so worth the drive. Everything is such a joy: the view, the comfortable bed, the hot tub on the terrace, the dinner and the hosts! Thank you!

    Garance2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful experience!!! If you don’t mind a bit of a beautiful drive into the country- be sure to stay with these wonderful people! They have built the most magnificent home overlooking the gorgeous bay and are willing to share it with you. Don’t miss the 3 course meal they will serve for dinner if you ask- some of the most wonderful food we have found in our travels through many countries. Excellent company- bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the hot tub and the wonderful gardens! Very highly recommended!!!

    Dave2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, amazing hosts and stunning food. So glad we found you, a real highlight of our trip.

    Sally2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Verity and Martin's place is truly a lovely place to say. Their home is simply stunning and in the most wonderful, peaceful location. From the beautiful deck, the incredible views, the hot-tub, to their own private beach - they are willing to share it all with you! The bedroom is in the main house, but it’s downstairs and out of the way. It’s bright and comfortable - with more of those amazing views! The private bathroom next door is clean, modern and spacious, with both a shower and bath. The location is pretty remote so a car is a must. Diamond Harbour is around 25 minutes’ drive away (very small, but has a shop and good café) so we’d absolutely recommend you book your supper with Verity - ours was delicious and so beautifully presented; many of the ingredients were from their garden. The full English breakfast was very tasty too. Verity and Martin were so welcoming and engaging; we enjoyed chatting with them about life in NZ (and Yorkshire!). Their little tabby cat Pine-nut was adorable! All in all, a fabulous AirBnb. Thank you Verity and Martin - we wish we could have stayed longer and would love to return one day. Highly recommended.

  • Verity and Martin are the perfect hosts.. I recommend having the 3 course dinner freshly cooked by Verity as there are no shops or restaurants nearby and it is delicious.. Separate guest quarters down stairs with your own beautiful bathroom with bath overlooking the bay is such the way to end the day.. Comfortable beds for a great nights sleep before an amazing breakfast the next morning cooked by Martin.. If you're looking for a B&B away from the rat race this is it, beautiful in every way..

  • Can not recommend staying here enough! Luxury stay with breathtaking views of Port Levy. If you stay you must let Verity cook dinner for you! It was the best meal of our whole NZ trip, beyond 10/10! Breakfast was also incredible, we loved our stay here. You couldn’t wish for nicer hosts either, thank you!

  • What an amazing place to stay. We spent 2 nights here at the end of our NZ trip - beautiful house in stunning location - the Banks Peninsular surpassed our expectations in terms of its spectacular scenery . We swam from the little beach below the house , enjoyed the hot tub and Verity’s evening meals were first class ( she is a trained chef). Verity and Martin were very hospitable and helpful when we needed advice - so interesting to hear stories of their life in NZ. Can’t recommend this beautiful home highly enough.

Beautiful mud brick, earth roof open plan small house. Set in an abundant organic paradise of birds and orchards surrounded by regenerating bush within walking distance to the water in peaceful Pigeon Bay. One double bed. Off the grid house with solar lighting, outdoor shower and composting toilet. Unwind in this private slice of paradise and get back to nature. Incredible morning chorus and bird watching. Enjoy.
Lovely getaway, beautiful building, rustic and simple. There is a log burner for the cooler nights. Come and soak up the cosy atmosphere and natural surrounds overlooking the ocean. This is a small open plan house ideal for a couple with only one double bed. An airstream caravan is available if needed for extras but please enquire. Please let me know if not a couple and require extra linen and/or the caravan. Otherwise it's only the double bed inside. Fire bath and sauna are seasonal extra's which cost an additional $20 on top of your booking cost. These are only available on request outside the fire ban season.
Pigeon Bay is remote and beautiful, there are great walking options for those keen on tramping. Check DOC info for the Pigeon Bay walkway, Montgomery Spur Track, and Hays Reserve, also explore our vast property of regeneration forest, orchards and gardens. Great swimming, fishing and coastal exploring around the bay. Walking distance to the sea.
  • Anna’s place is wonderful, it’s exactly what my wife and I wanted and the experience was ideal. From the beautiful outlook to the accommodation itself, we highly recommend this slice of heaven.

  • We loved our stay at the mud house. Very cool wee place in a beautiful secluded spot. We really enjoyed seeing so many native birds right outside the doorstep. We had some issues on our side that meant we couldn't check in when planned. Anna was very accommodating and kindly offered a workaround for us which was above and beyond anything we expected. Great place with a great host, we'll be back!

    Chris2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was very exciting in this location, especially the nightly walk to the toilet! A great orchard and a very romantic atmosphere with the fireplace and all the candles. Everything we needed was there. Can only be recommended!

  • We stayed here for two nights for my partners birthday. It was so beautiful, the view, the house and the sounds of the native birds singing around the house. We drove to Akaroa for breakfast on our last day, only around 30 minutes drive. The location is just perfect. Thanks so much, would love to come back and stay again one day!

  • Thank you to you both for “hosting” us in such a beautiful studio! The apartment was picture perfect and absolutely spotless, the location was second to none and every little touch of the apartment made it feel like home. My only suggestion would be to review the wifi - only one of our devices would connect and it would frequently drop out. That being said, the pub across the road reaches the apartment so it was not a big issue!

This charming villa, situated in the heart of Wainui, is full of character. With panoramic views overlooking Akaroa Harbour and the surrounding hills, this is a superb spot to relax and unwind. Come and enjoy the unique environment any time of the year. This spacious family home has 5 bedrooms, kitchen/living room with large log burner and another living/dining room with a beautiful open fire, both opening onto the veranda. I look forward to hosting you in my delightful home and its surrounds.
Just a 5-minute walk from the beach, there are plenty of options for activities during your stay. Fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and walking to name a few. There are also tennis courts in Wainui with tennis rackets and balls available.
Wainui is very picturesque, quiet and tranquil. Made up of holiday homes and under 100 permanent residents, there is a rocky shoreline and when the tide is out you can walk around it. You can fish from the beach and it is very safe for children. The water is cold but lovely. The surrounding hills are also divine, with pockets of native bush and some lovely walks. A great place for dogs! Things to do nearby: Purchase some fresh Akaroa Salmon from the Wainui wharf Visit the Shamarra Alpaca Farm French Farm Winery & Restaurant - a very short distance away Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the summertime. Beautiful garden and grounds.
  • Amazing location and stunning scenery. This is going on the favourites list for sure! Thanks

  • Beautiful country get away! Waking up with the views was magical! Great little extra touches! Fresh eggs! Beautiful little rose arrangements in each room!

  • This is a unique, beautiful, large classic home with a fantastic view of the water. The bed is comfortable and the home clean as can be. There is a piano to play and a sweet purring cat outside that you can feed. Caro generously supplied breakfast supplies including eggs and a delicious muesli. Her communication was spot on, including the advice to purchase groceries before you get to Wainui as you cannot get them there. Recommend you visit the cute French town of Akaroa during your stay, although the best part of our visit was just living in the home. We did not want to leave.

This 40 sqm Swiss chalet design is relaxed and cosy. Newly decorated with brand new kitchen and bathroom, together with toasty wood burning stove for cooler nights. Our high tech water filter treats the rain water collected off the roof. Wifi not available. Coffee lovers - we have a stove top espresso maker. Set in a private section surrounded by native kiwi bush and birds galore. Enjoy a soothing outdoor bath on the deck or an energetic table tennis rally. The only thing to do is relax!
Happily wifi free (yes that’s right, no wifi here) this is the place to kick back and recharge. Enjoy a soak in the outdoor bath - one bath will use one tank of heated water (collected from the roof). Our water is collected from the roof and fills two outside tanks, so use sparingly please :)
Immerse yourself in tranquil Pigeon Bay. Go screen-free and tune into native bird song. Go for a wander round Hayes Reserve, potter at the waters edge at Pigeon Bay looking for crabs, or walk out to the Pigeon Bay Heads for a half day hike, or up Mount Sinclair. Take in the Double Fenceline (55km ride) on your bike which starts and ends on Pettigrews Road. Drive round the Bays (surfing at Magnet, Hickory, Raupo, and Tumbledown). Feast on fish &chips and fine coffee at Akaroa only 20 min drive away. Cinema, museum and dolphin spotting also on offer. Plus walks-aplenty if that is your thing.

Banks Peninsula was created by a large number of eruptions of the volcanoes Lyttelton and Akaroa and was up to 25000 a year ago as an island. Memories of this geological past are everywhere: Rocky volcanic foothills, deep valleys and steep cliffs. Akaroa is founded by a small group of French colonists in 1840. Oldest city in Canterbury. The town possesses many historical buildings in French style, narrow streets and a pretty harbour. In the middle of the town is a beach where you can swim.
  • Great location and very clean!

    Yves2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and homely cottage just outside of Akaroa. I only stayed for one night, but my room was amazing with a really comfortable bed. The atmosphere was really nice and friendly with all the other guests and Cornelius gave me really good tips for local walks. Would probably need a car if you stayed here for longer and wanted to explore around the banks peninsula, but the shuttle bus from Christchurch drops you off very close by which is handy! Would stay here again!

    Kavita2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Halfmoon Cottage is the most beautiful house surrounded by magnificent gardens and the location is ideal for walks and a short driving distance to Akaroa town. Cornelius and Margo are friendly hosts who will offer you advice on activities in the area. The house is spotlessly clean and the bedrooms are lovely the kitchen is very well equipped for preparing meals with an outside dining area as well as a dining room. We heartily recommend a visit and we will definitely return.

    Rosie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. It is in a great location only 10km from Akaroa with all the facilities you need and so sparkling clean. Cornelius and Margo are so hospitable and we loved the house and garden. We will not hesitate to stay there again when we return to Akaroa.

    Linda2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the halfmoon cottage. We found everything to be tidy and the view outside was beautiful. Cornelius was there to greet us and showed us around. He also spent time offering suggestions which was a nice touch. Of note, Akaroa is currently under water restrictions so minimal water use is encouraged. Overall, our stay was not long, but most certainly was pleasant.

  • We had a great stay at Little River Cottage for our anniversary. It was such a peaceful place to get away from it all. We did the bush walk - be aware this is is a bit steep and slippery in places and took a wee while to do, so wear good shoes. Adam loved having some cold water therapy in the waterfall in the morning! Breakfast was lovely, gluten free accommodated, and there was even a note detailing the gf options. I really wish we had booked for more than one night!

  • The cabin was a beautiful place to stay for a few days as part of our road trip, with the sound of the river beneath you and the birds above. The indoor fireplace keeps you warm in those colder nights. And the breakfast fairies are of course worth a mention, with a delightful and delicious spread each morning! Thanks Sandra and Jody :)

As you can see from the photos, my house is over 100 years old but tastefully renovated to more modern standards. With the addition of my Cinema, it adds something unique giving guests that little extra being able to view movies in a cinema rather than on TV.
Wheelchair access and ensuite in Stand-alone BnB which is separate from the house. Super King bed can be split into 2 Singles.
    Very friendly, small community.
  • Bernadette's place really is a retreat! My partner and I stayed there for one night just to get away from home for a bit and it was perfect. Bernadette is a great host with such warm hospitality, we loved every second of our stay. The bed in the guest house was super comfy, and we both had a great sleep. It was lovely waking up to birdsong in the morning! Definitely recommend staying here if you're in Little River or on your way to Akaroa.

    Rachel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 2 nights in this lovely place. The bedroom is nice, big bed with a large bathroom. It was nice to meet Bernadette, we had great discussions during our dinners. She prepared a good breakfast with toasts, eggs and bacon. Great ! Bernadette is a great host, she does her best to make you feeling like at home.

    Thomas2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality .A quaint little outhouse.

    Kay2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Bernadette is experienced host that will do anything to make you feel at home. Above that she is a warm, kind and hospital person who takes the time to have a chat with you if you want. During our stay she was forced to find a temporary replacement for herself, which she found in her brother Bryan. It looks like hospitality and service is their family DNA, because Bryan appeared to be a worthy stand-in. We had a great stay with them and idem dito chats during the perfect breakfasts that were served. The cosy room is small but the bed is huge and stands for a perfect night sleep. Everything is super clean and the bathroom is well equiped and as tastefull decorated as the room itself. Last thing that has to be mentioned is the unique opportunity to watch a movie in the little, private cinema. Bernadette can even advise to make a choice out of the large number of available movies. No need to say that we strongly recommend Bernadette's Retreat.

    Pieter2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a bonus to watch a movie in Bernadette's mini theatre after a long drive! Very relaxing. Very friendly hostess. Comfy bed. Nice and clean and quiet

    Geoff2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding place to stay for a night. Bernadette is a wonderful host. We watched a movie in her cinema - what a treat! Great breakfast in the morning! Highly recommended.

    Kevin2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Bernadette is a special host. She is kind, welcoming, helpful & made our short stay an absolute pleasure. The room is clean, cosy (with a heater), very comfortable bed & a fantastic bathroom/shower. She cooked us breakfast to top it all off! Little River is a lovely place to pause before or after heading to visit the beautiful town of Akaroa. Highly recommend this accommodation & host!

    Leah2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The host is an elegant, warm, loving old lady who is particularly good at communication. No matter what our English communication skills are, she can communicate very happily. Her home theater is amazing! In particular, it is worth helping us to prepare breakfast and contacting nearby stores to purchase the gifts we need. This experience is the best memory of our entire trip!

Pigeon Bay is a picturesque small rural coastal community in Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. There are wonderful fishing, boating and walking opportunities to be found.
  • If you are looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy views that are unsurpassed we thoroughly recommend staying at Pigeon Bay. The home is well set up with every convenience and Helen thoughtfully left some supplies for our arrival. Definitely a highlight of our Sth Island travels.

  • A wonderful stay at Michelle's place in Akaroa. Quick communication easy check in. The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. We loved that the house easy was in easy walking distance to restaurants for dinner or to the beach and the trees in the back garden were often visited by Kererū to our delight! Thanks again.

Enjoy warm kiwi hospitality by sharing our home with us or being as independent as you like. See clear star constellations at night, and wake up to the sound of the bubbling stream and native bird song. Then enjoy home made bread and home roasted espresso coffee. Gateway to Banks Peninsula; village cafe& art gallery, walks & mountain biking.
We live on a well established rural property, nestled among native bush, an orchard, and walnut trees. Quail feed on the lawn each morning, and native wood pigeon & bell birds live in the trees. A stream runs through the center of our property that is home to the long fin eel and trout during spawning season. Our home is surrounded by farm country where sheep and cattle, donkeys, pigs, ducks, geese and alpacas are common sightings within 1 km. We have 2 chickens and 2 cats.
Our neighborhood is quite and peaceful with beautiful native bush and a stream. Many bike and walking tracks close by. Two great cafe's, an art gallery a craft shop and library are only a 20 minute walk away.
  • I stayed for two nights as a base for exploring Banks Peninsula. As I had my own vehicle, the location was superb for this purpose. While the room was not large, it had its own toilet and an anteroom with tea-making facilities. The outlook from the room was sublime, with a view of bush and garden through two large windows, and I loved going to sleep to the sound of the water in the brook. Christine and Kim were generous and personable hosts who went out of their way to make my stay pleasant. I recommend them and would stay again without hesitation.

    Derek2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I Returned a second time to now my favourite place in New Zealand, where I find true hospitality and total serenity! Spotless clean, the comfiest bed with crisp white sheets, only the birds, wind and the bubbling brook to break the silence. A true home from home, and the best home made bread and hosts! It has it all and the price is unbeatable!

    Rachel2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful, tranquil & just lovely! We were welcomed into Christine & Kim’s home by the cats & a welcome note as they had a prior engagement. However we saw them later & they are both just lovely & warm people, we felt so at ease like our own home. The bread that Christine bakes for breakfast is just another lovely touch & ;.added bonus!! We wouldn’t hesitate to book again should we be in the area again, it’s so lovely.

    Ruth2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home in a beautiful setting - a veggie patch, an orchard, a babbling brook and the most amazing hosts.

    Angela2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • clean and comfortable room, very welcoming and attentive people

    Laure2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had wonderful 2 nights at this place. Amazing hospitality and really good recommendations. The breakfast was jummy and the bed really comfortable. Thank you for everything! We would definitely stay there again.

    Anna2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Christine’s house was the best possible way of starting our holiday. The place is like out of a fairytale, especially the garden and the stream that gives you good night. Also Christine is very friendly and will give you good local tips and homemade breakfast is a cherry on top.

    Lucie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Christine and Kim's home is a true haven of a retreat, not too far from Little River to feel disconnected, but far enough to feel away from it all amongst the peace of country lanes and acreages. With a bubbling brook right outside the bedroom window to soothe the soul, amazing garden and serene home, it was hard to decide to relax in the peace of the home, or go for a short drive and walk upon recommendation to a local hillside with incredible views and bizarre windswept trees. Grateful I did both! The welcome to use their home and space, and feel part of it, was unrivalled . The best freshly baked bread greeted me in the morning, and a flexible check out due to their kindness. I will be back. I LOVED all of it so much. Christine and Kim are a true blessing and use their home so beautifully to bless others.

Guests can expect a beautiful back in time place to sleep in a room with French doors opening onto a wooden deck heated by an open fire and a vintage bathroom next door that is theirs alone..a place close enough to walk to the village or beach .A romantic place to read.. to sleep.. to do yoga ..to watch films and eat fresh laid eggs ..carry the cat around and feed the goose ...have a hot tub ...sleep in..walk the hills .The property is surrounded by the walktrack networks of akaroa
Guests will be treated to having their car right outside the french doors onto the courtyard and adeck looking across the stone walled interior courtyard exclusively for the guests use. There is a stylish private bathroom almost en suite(have go through one door ) with a victorian period style shower and claw foot bath. This studio is designed for women guests travelling lone and its really been designed as a womans space. Having said that we have had happy male solo travellers interested in design and fabrics, and a cafe owner staying at present is enjoying having a deep bath every evening It's a compact space designed around fabrics and middle eastern rugs and antiques from the Victorian period ....candles and an open fire they will have a wheelbarrow of wood replenished every day Guests also have access to the library and dvds in the filmroom and an opportunity to book the hot tub down by the river as an extra.!..the film room also has to be booked for a private viewing . There is limited access to wireless and down loading cannot happen as the broadband is not unlimited. A desk and table for working inside or on verandah is provided. There is a fridge and electric jug etc and a breakfast tray can be ordered in advance for a turkish style meal of yoghurt nuts fresh hens eggs and bread and plunge pot coffee or herb tea. The plain antique colonial style kitchen in the house itself is available at meal hours for preparation of a simple meal . there is another fridge in this kitchen which guests also share with other Airbnb guests . Its a 5 minute drive to the waterfront restaurants jn Akaroa or a 25 minute walk . This valley is a walk track paradise..a bird watchers paradise... and a romantic wilderness garden and forest of over 20 hectares with walktracks .
The village is small with a pretty harbour historic early settlement in the 1840s and originally maori..then french and English. I50 years later its been discovered by the cruise ship industry as a stopover and not quite so quaint or so French! But the waterfront restaurants are still better than most and the dolphins and seals and penguins are still here , and the two local vineyards offer good wine . The superb walktracks criss cross all over the valleys high and low and the commercial boat trips kayakng paddle boarding and dolphin swimming are all super quality.. Guests also have access to our private boat shed in the harbour 15 minutes drive away available for guests on longer stays .
  • Akaroa has a quiet charm and good food. Lynnie works hard to give you a great experience and the experience is tailored to your unique needs. The decor is quirky and at first I was taken aback, however give yourself a chance to absorb the experience and to get to know your host and her outstanding hospitality and you won’t regret it. To any traveler wanting something out of the ordinary don’t hesitate to come to Lynnie’s farm. Highly recommended.

    Lisa2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a special place, and so full of character! Experiencing Lynnie’s spot was the perfect way to end my travels in New Zealand. My stay was full of thoughtful touches, and Lynnie went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and welcome. A great and special spot, especially for a solo female traveller.

    Isabella2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fun stay! Lynnie was so welcoming and hospitable and made me feel right at home. As a solo traveller that was really lovely. The place is very atmospheric and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Loads of animals and birds. I had a great experience.

  • A lovely host and an extravagant room. Thank you

    Nicole2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Lynnie’s farm in Akaroa was most enjoyable. In addition to being very friendly and incredibly hospitable, Lynnie also provided me with some local information regarding walks and recommendations for food. The farm is a beautifully quaint spot and I’d be very happy to return in the future. Thank you Lynnie!

    James2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A special place to stay with a wonderful host

    Katharina2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lynnie’s farm isn’t your standard Airbnb crash pad: it’s an experience in itself. The house is wonderfully bohemian and full of gorgeous antique furniture, objet d’art, chickens, a friendly goose and an abundance of character. It’s surrounded by the most charming wild garden (acres upon acres). The farm animals (birds) are left to roam - it’s awfully romantic. If you’re lucky enough to get to know Lynnie, you’re in for a treat. She’s smart, eccentric, witty and an absolute hoot! I loved spending time with her and felt awfully sad to leave. My two day stint was not nearly enough. On a more logistical note, the farm is well located to some excellent walking trails and only a 25 min wander into the town (I recommend Mandela’s- the fish curry is top notch). Perfect for a female solo traveller- you’ll get the best room! Thanks, Lynnie.

    Alexandra2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The farm felt like Paradise - it’s such a beautiful and unique place. I stayed 5 nights and definitely will stay again when back in NZ. You can feel Lynnes personality in every detail. Highly recommend to individual people who love out of the box styles in stunning nature.

Whero Lodge is a modern architecturally designed house providing panoramic views over the ever-changing bay, and is conveniently located within a few minutes walk of Little Akaloa beach. Spend time unwinding in this idyllic rural setting with only birds, sheep, cows, the occasional holiday maker, and of course your hosts to keep you company. Judy, Owen, and their two cats warmly invite you to benefit from their intimate local knowledge while you stay with them in their little piece of paradise.
Judy and Owen are two of the small number of permanent residents in the quaint rural community of Little Akaloa. This serene spot is a 90 minute picturesque drive from Christchurch. Impressively Whero Lodge was built single-handedly by Owen soon after retiring from teaching. The 360 square metre space was designed to take advantage of the sea views and accommodate their boat, tractor, cars, and workshop. Water is supplied by a nearby spring and is 100% safe for drinking. Recently Judy and Owen extended their vegetable garden by planting strawberries, several fruit trees, and a glasshouse which produce most of their fruit and vegetables. A continental breakfast of cereal, porridge, freshly baked bread, home-made jam and preserves, and tea or percolated coffee will be provided each morning. While landscaping has been completed at the front of the property, establishing gardens at the rear of the house is still on their to-do list.
Little Akaloa is perfect for guests looking for a peaceful stay off the beaten path. The beach is downhill from Whero Lodge, and convenient walking access is provided by a private right of way adjacent to the house. A short walk will also take you to the nearby historic St Lukes church and cemetery. The surrounding hills are perfect for biking and picturesque walks further afield. On a clear day it is possible to see the Kaikoura Ranges over 150km away. The nearby community domain houses a small children's playground and two tennis courts for public use. Little Akaloa also has a wharf which is popular for fishing, and a boat ramp for guests needing to launch their boat. Little Akaloa is a convenient gateway to the popular French village of Akaroa and other attractions on the peninsula such as Barry's Bay cheese factory, Okains Bay Māori & Colonial Museum, and several wineries and vineyards.
  • Lovely place with gorgeous views across the bay. Little Akaloa is a very quiet place over the hill from larger towns, and perfect for a getaway. We were made to feel very welcome and had tasty breakfasts with homemade products.

Our king studios all overlook a native garden and stream setting. The rooms are equipped with super king beds, SKY select satellite TV, unlimited free WiFi, kitchenette and a balcony or patio.
We are set in a mainly residential neighbourhood with the local police as neighbours. There are plenty of places to explore and great dining all within a short distance of our property.

The kitchen is perfect and will fulfill your basic needs. The location is great too. We will stay here again the next time we travel.

  • The most caring and respectful hosts. Their place is a wee gem. We wanted a quiet retreat in natural surroundings, to rest for a couple of days. The room is just as appears in the photos and it was a joy to wake up with the view of only the little table setting on the patio with lush foliage and a glimpse of sky in the background. Just a short stroll across the street to the sea shore and 10 minutes to the other end of the township. We are already planning our next trip.

  • This AirBNB has lovely views and is only a 5 minute drive to Akaroa. During our stay most of the Akaroa town was closed due to low season, but it made the stay much more relaxing and slow paced. If you are planning to self cater during the off-season then I would suggest bringing food in as the local 4-Square closes early! We went dolphin viewing which was magical and strongly recommended! The house has 2 moderate sized bedroom, a very nice shower in the bathroom, and a small outdoor covered deck for sitting and looking at the stars.

Be nurtured by nature, while staying in the beautiful Okuti Valley. Kereru Cabin is set amidst pasture and native bush, with a stream bubbling by. Here you can walk the local tracks or simply sit on the sunny deck and enjoy the song of native birds and view of the hills. Nearby there are cycle tracks, and many beautiful beaches and bays suitable for swimming and surfing. For family groups a second cabin is available. See Kowhai Cabin on Air BnB for details and booking.
Kereru Cabin has a queen bed, and a mezzanine floor with 2 floor mattresses, which offers a very affordable family stay. Please note, however, there is a ladder to the loft, so this would not be suitable for young children. Kereru Cabin would suit artists and writers who need a quiet space to rekindle their creativity or those wishing to unwind and destress. You are surrounded by trees and birdsong and so you can easily forget city life. There is plenty of space available for children to explore in the bush and by the stream. A hotplate and barbecue are available for cooking, and a fridge is provided. There are no restaurants open in the evening in Little River so it is advisable to bring your own food supplies for the evening. There is, however, a pub nearby which offers meals in the evenings. A camper van can be accommodated, with an outdoor power point available. Tent sites, by the stream, are also offered.
We live in the idyllic Okuti Valley, just 2 km from the well known Little River Cafe and gallery, which sells artworks of nationally recognised artists. Little River is half way between Christchurch and Akaroa. We are close to the end of the bike trail from Motukakara to Little River and will be happy to collect you from Little River if you have either cycled the bike trail or instead, taken the bus (Akaroa Shuttle) from Christchurch. Nearby is the Phytofarm, which offers courses in herbal medicine. In just 45 minutes from here, you can drive to Akaroa where you can enjoy the local cuisine, swim with dolphins or kayak in the beautiful harbour.

    France2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth & Tony were fantastic hosts; very friendly, fast responders, ensuring we had all we needed. Units were very new and comfortable. Area is very quiet with only sounds being those of birds. Included breakfasts provided were top notch - delicious and fresh. As cooking & eating facilities, toilet & shower are outside the sleeping areas, would be wise to take warm clothes in case temperatures are cool. A great stay and we would highly recommend both the cabins and the superb hosts.

    Linda2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The most lovely and welcoming hosts and gorgeous eco-cottage! Tony and Elizabeth went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and at home. They also gave us great recommendations for activities around Little River. Can not recommend enough!!

Spectacular scenery, walking tracks, beach access
  • An alternate accommodation with a great outlook into the Akaroa harbor. Chris is a very welcoming host, checking to make sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for a 5 star accommodation this is not for you. But, if you are looking for something alternative then do not hesitate to stay at this wonderful accommodation. Very peaceful with native birds around you. It was very entertaining to watch the NZ native pigeon (Kereru) feeding off a tree right beside the accommodation. Their antics were hilarious. The offer of helping yourself to the fruit on the trees right outside your door was also very generous. It is worth the drive to the accommodation and I only wish I had more time to stay longer. Thank you Chris.

  • This was one of the highlights of our time in New Zealand. We were able to see sheep, cows, bunnies, stunning views and more stars than I’ve ever seen in my life. This is definitely a great spot for families, but if you come in summer with little kids who need naps plan to hang in town and let them nap in strollers or outdoors until evening so the house can cool down a bit. At night it’s perfect. We loved staying here. Chris was welcoming and kind.

    Jess2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful lake view around this house. The house owner is very friendly and warmly welcomed to guest. He allowed us to pick a variety of fruits. If you wanna have a typical farm experience please choose this house!

  • On Chris's own farm, the room was clean and the lake view was nice. What impressed us was the sky full of stars that I saw in the room at night, which was particularly beautiful! There are also cute bunnies and cows.

  • What a great remote place to stay. Don’t expect life’s luxuries but embrace the peaceful, glorious setting and experience evening birdsong, looking over the bay with a glass of NZ white wine....perfect.

This unique contemporary cosy bus is fully self contained for your comfort with a hot shower, kitchen and bathroom and a pot belly stove. It has it's own private garden and parking. It is private, warm and tranquil, surrounded by nature. It is within walking distance of the Little River cafe and art gallery, and close to the rail trail (biking), bush walks, the Hilltop tavern for food and music, beautiful beaches and Akaroa. The bus is great for couples, and solo adventurers.
Staying in our Red Bus is a unique experience. It's funky and contemporary and really very comfortable. You should have all you need to have a comfortable short or long term stay here. A full size fully equipped kitchen and shower are inside. There is a potbelly stove to use for the cooler evenings. All bedding and linen is provided. The toilet and laundry tub are in the seperate hut right next to the bus.
Little River is a pretty cool village with 2 cafes, an art gallery and a craft shop. There is also a petrol station, a shop, library and post office. The river meanders through the town and its nice to go walking around. There are lots of trees. People are very friendly here and the pace is slow so it is somewhere you can really slow down and relax. We are not far from the Hilltop tavern a great music venue. Little River is a great base from which to explore the beautiful walks and activities on the Banks Peninsula and is 30 minutes from Akaroa a scenic seaside town with a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes. It offers swimming and sightseeing with the Dolphins aswell as other wildlife activities.

  • ENG-ESP Arielle's and Philippe's bus is simply incredible. They were very creative in making such a spacious and comfy place out of a bus, it's really very homey! Everything you could possibly need is provided. Very nice job in making a little private garden also, it really doesn't feel like you're in a house's yard, it really has all the privacy you could ask for. Arielle was very nice and gave us some great recommendations for places to see around the area and was quick to attend to the little requests we had. We'd definitely stay here again !! Arielle and Philippe's mic is just amazing. They were very creative in achieving such a spacious and comfortable place for a mic. Everything one may need is provided. They also did a very good job of creating a private garden for the accommodation, it doesn't feel at all like being on the patio of the house, it has all the privacy that any other place can offer. Arielle was very friendly and gave us very good local recommendations and was quick to respond to the few requests we made. We would definitely stay here again!

    Juan2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay in the red bus. The peace and tranquility of the space was just what we needed to recharge the bodies after an exhausting few months. Everything we needed was well catered for and our hosts very friendly and accommodating Sharon even had a health session with Arielle. We will return for sure.

  • Such a gorgeous place to stay and the added quirkiness of staying in an old bus was so exciting! The area was peaceful, the bus lovely and warm with the cosy fireplace, the bed super comfortable and an amazing shower! Loved the stay so much thank you!

  • Fantastic location - a total gem of an apartment in the heart of the esplanade. We loved the easy access to restaurants and coffee shops and the waterfront. An extra plus as it is ground floor and was easy to get in/out with luggage, stroller, and all of our extra baby stuff. Maggie was an excellent host - very accommodating and friendly. Lots of windows with a breeze that comes straight through the apartment. Great shower too. Lots of bonuses like fresh bread for toast in the AM. We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed there longer!

Experience Banks Peninsula in a truly unique way by treating yourself to a stay at our coastal retreat. Enjoy warm Kiwi hospitality by sharing our home with us or be as independent as you like. Magnificent sea views from your bed. Separate entrance, ensuite bathroom, kitchenette, free WiFi & SkyTV, air-conditioning & private use of a shared outdoor spa pool. See below for info about scenic/wildlife harbour cruises that we run on Southern Wanderer & bookings at discounted rates for our guests.
The studio is a private suite with a queen bed, table and chairs, ensuite bathroom, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and jug (please note that there is no access to an oven or cooktop), air-conditioning, WiFi, SkyTV including sport channels, stereo, DVDs, CDs, books and magazines. Very quiet and warm.
Look for us (akaroacoastalretreat) on Instagram for photos showing the amazing scenery you can expect to see when visiting Akaroa and Banks Peninsula. Akaroa is a small seaside settlement, 80 kilometres by road from Christchurch. The Maori name translates as 'long bay' and refers to the harbour, in the crater of an extinct volcano that has been flooded by the sea. The town itself is truly a coastal retreat, at the end of the only road linking it to the city. You will not find it by accident, passing through on your way to somewhere else. You must decide to come to Akaroa and when you arrive... the rest of the world will seem a million miles away.
  • Best view, best host, best vacation. Would love to return!

  • This place is a gem, and so are John & Jenny! We were here on our honeymoon and had the greatest, most relaxing time. The accommodation has everything you'll need and more. There are robes, lots of towels, and even umbrella hats! We went in there hot tub at sunset and would highly recommend it! The views are spectacular, and there are even alpacas!! We also thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride we did with John and his son Oli. Couldn't recommend this place enough and will be back.

    Jennifer2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay in beautiful location - Make sure you book the spa!

    Jane2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect studio apartment with a spectacular view! We were warmly greeted by John and Jenny after a long drive where we were offered hot coffee, tea or the use of their jacuzzi spa. The studio has everything one would need for a stay including all of the kitchen and bath essentials. You also cannot beat that amazing view from the comfort of the bed enjoying your morning coffee. We would highly recommend their boat tour that John and his son Ollie offer. Johns knowledge of the area, sea life and birds is very informative, and we were lucky enough to see several dolphins. It is a smaller boat which affords a smaller tour group, which we appreciated. Thank you again John and Jenny and if we are back in town again we hwill definitely be staying with you. Cheers!

    Arielle2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The studio is amazing and the pictures do not do it justice. John was so kind and helpful with any questions we had. He set the spa for us when we wanted it ready. The view is to die for and John’s place is a little drive away from town which was nice as there was a cruise ship on the day in Akaroa so was good to get away from the crowds. I also highly recommend getting onboard John’s boat cruise on the Southern Wanderer. We had 2 hours on the water and saw dolphins, penguins, seals and countless bird life. 10/10 would highly recommend.

  • A perfect end to our New Zealand trip. What a stunning spot Jenny and John have and thanks to their outstanding hospitality and advice on where to explore, we had an amazing three days here. Spotlessly clean and very very comfortable with so many personal touches such as local books and little torches by the bed. Akaroa heaven!

  • We are so grateful to Jenny and John for the wonderful stay we had in Akaroa. They are incredible hosts and the spot is spectacular!! We hope to go back there as soon as we can! It was simply fabulous! The best part of all was being able to use the hot spa overlooking the water. We loved it!!

Located in a quiet part of Akaroa with vast harbour views, and the sea at the bottom of your driveway. Theres no better spot to get away from the hustle, while you are still only a short walk away from the heart of the village. The house has open plan living, dining, kitchen, with sliding doors opening onto ample decking. There is one queen and one twin bedroom in the main house, . There are two additional bed rooms (one queen and one twin) and half bathroom available in the sleep out.
The drive way access to the house is quite steep, and bumpy, with a sharp bend in it. It might be a surprise the first time you drive it, but we havent had a guest, in a wide range of vehicle types, who has'nt managed it. Once at the top you can park right beside the house on a flat site for easy unloading. While the house is located up the hill for best views of the water, once you are at the bottom of the drive way, its a flat walk to the village. The Living, dining and kitchen are open plan, with windows overlooking the harbour covering virtually the length of the building. And sliding doors opening onto decking. There are no curtains on the main windows, but you are not overlooked by any other houses. The bedrooms have blinds/curtains for privacy. The kitchen is supplied with items you might need during a stay, including tea and coffee, some herbs spices. There is also a washing machine available for all those wet beach towels. This is a families private holiday home, it doesn't have all the mod cons, and not all the plates match. There is no dishwasher, or wifi. It is comfortable and private, in an outstanding location. I am only a phone call away, if you have any questions, but the house is entirely private.
The village of Akaroa has everything you need from great eating, a boutique cinema to Dolphin watching. There is a supermarket to top up your supplies, and many great outdoor activities and walking tracks. Check out www.akaroa.com to see what happening during your stay.
  • This is a wonderful bach. We loved staying a short walk out of town, away from the hustle and bustle of all the cruise-ship tourists. The view is outstanding; I could have sat on the deck / in the sunny lounge for many more days, watching the boats and kererus fly by. All four bedrooms are simple but great; I'd love some bedside lamps. We hope to be back very soon to take advantage of the restful space, view, local walks and cafes :)

  • The appartment is amaizing. Great view and can only be recommended

    Otto2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Banks Peninsular, the village of Akaroa plus Akaroa Harbour View House are a great addition to any trip in the Canterbury/Christchurch area. The stunning view from the main rooms and deck forgives the small weaknesses. Well equipped and very comfortable, especially the beds! We would also recommend a visit to Okains Bay and the Museum there plus taking a Harbour Nature Cruise to see Dolphins, seals, many seabirds and if you are lucky the tiny penguins. We arrived around 2.45 pm at the house and rushed to join a tour at 3.40 pm as we had mistakenly thought the weather might not be so good the next day. Only about a dozen of us on the boat. So pleased we did as next day a cruise ship was in town and everything was busy! We understand should be less cruise ships arriving in Akaroa next season as Lyttelton Harbour is almost back in full use.

  • It has a great bay view, an oversized terrace, an open and bright living room, dining room, and kitchen. The location is not far from the lighthouse, which is easy to find. The road is steep and rotten, and the road surface has been pitted by wheels. It is easy to slip carefully.

  • Barbara's cottage was perfect for a relaxing weekend - tucked away in an idyllic spot yet accessible to other parts of Banks Peninsula. A great base to explore or just recharge. We did several local walks and enjoyed the amazing views of the Eastern Bays on a round trip drive that took us along the Bossu Road. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well-equipped and very comfortable. Barbara's delicious homemade muesli and fresh flowers were most appreciated. A stop at the nearby Little River Gallery and Café on the way home capped off our Okuti Valley stay.

  • We enjoyed every minute we spent in Cornelius'& Margos Hostel! We had the twin room which was spacious and everything was just as shown in the pics. Cornelius and Margo are very nice hosts and have a lovely cottage near the bay! We can highly recommend their relaxed hostel to anybody who searches for a great accomodation on the banks Peninsula!

  • A realy lovely place. Cornelius and Margo are lovely, as the place. Cornelius provide us a huge amount of tips about what to do in Akaroa and around the city. The house is very clean, we were there on a rainy day, and the house was warm and confy. I recommend to everyone to spend a night there or more, you will not be disappointed!!!!

  • Very friendly. Enjoyed the shared kitchen and lounge area. It was lovey to have other travellers to chat with and watch a movie with at night, and then be able to have my own private place to head to bed and relax. It was the best place I could have taken my other too on her first trip to NZ.

  • A very clean accommodation, well equipped for cooking if needed and in a truly exceptional location: quiet and close to hiking trails, akaroa ... Margo and Cornelius are very welcoming and full of good advice. Note that it is possible to borrow bikes (good quality and helmets are even available!). I definitely recommend this address! I really recommend this accomodation without hesitation! A really nice welcome from Margo & Cornelius, a calm and beautiful location, a lot of equipments like ...
