Cottage in Leura
Cottage in the mist. Leura Upper Blue Mountains
Delightful little cottage - used to be on an old dairy farm, these days it's residential. Close to Leura shops/restaurants & a short drive from the magnificent escarpment views/walks of Katoomba. The front verandah looks onto a fish pond. Be lazy on the back deck shaded by an old tree fern, with views to the grove of lovely mountain ash trees and billabong with frogs in distance. Settle in for a winter evening next to a big gas log heater. Weekends away, writers retreat, bushwalking.

Your guide to Leura

All About Leura

With its stately heritage homes, tree-lined streets, and cool-climate gardens, Leura is one of the prettiest towns in the Blue Mountains. Its proximity to a range of world-famous attractions, including the Three Sisters and Echo Point lookout in Katoomba, makes it a very popular destination year round. Leura’s inviting village centre is protected by the National Trust, and it offers a selection of boutiques, galleries, toy and book shops, cafes, and restaurants that can entertain for hours. Leura’s main street is also lined with cherry trees which add a beautiful splash of colour in spring. Relax over a Devonshire tea, indulge in a treatment or two at a day spa, enjoy a long lunch with friends or family, or explore one of the area’s easily accessible bushwalks. Leura’s Sublime Point lookout is also a perfect spot to enjoy views of the Jamison Valley, have a picnic, or go rock climbing.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Leura

Leura is an ideal place to visit any time of year. Spring is one of the most popular times, as this is when the Blue Mountains come alive with blooming wildflowers and lots of private gardens open their gates. The mild weather during spring is also ideal for bushwalking or cycling. Autumn also brings visitors to Leura, and the changing colours throughout the valley make for some beautiful scenery. Summer can bring hot and humid days, though the Blue Mountains is still cooler than the coast, and so can offer some respite in the peak of the season. Winter is a popular time in the Blue Mountains, especially with visitors looking for cosy winter getaways and Christmas in July celebrations. Leura can also get snow during winter.

Top things to do in Leura

Sublime Point Lookout

A five-minute drive from the town centre you’ll find the Sublime Point Lookout, which overlooks the Jamison Valley, Three Sisters, and Mount Solitary. There’s a picnic area, as well as a short walk across a bridge to the lookout itself, from where you can admire the seemingly endless valley. Thanks to its sheer cliffs, the area is also popular with rock climbers.

Bushwalking

Leura is surrounded by a wide range of bushwalks, with options suitable for all levels of ability. The Leura Cascades Fern Bower Walk passes by some impressive waterfalls and offers spectacular views of the Jamison Valley, as does the Prince Henry Cliff Walk which follows the cliff’s edge.

Everglades House and Gardens

Now owned by the National Trust, this 1930s, art deco-style house sits in over five hectares of beautifully designed and maintained gardens. Explore the winding paths, terraces, and two gentle pools. There is a lovely tea room that’s open on weekends and plenty of open space in the gardens for picnics.
