Places to stay in King Salmon

Places to stay in King Salmon
From Salmon Heights Lodging, "The Grotto" is our ground-level, furnished apartment with private entrance in King Salmon, Alaska. 1 bedroom, twin beds, full kitchen, combined dining/living area, and private bathroom.
The Grotto has custom Alaskan decor, is very clean, comfortable and newly remodeled. The bathroom has a new, TALL toilet, sink and shower. Bedroom has a ceiling fan, dresser, plenty of clothes hangers. The gas range, microwave and kitchen sink are full-sized, fridge is plenty big enough for your stay. Outside is a gravel patio, hooks for your waders and gear, and nice view of the gardens and greenhouse. If you need to do laundry let us know and we'll get you access.
King Salmon is a major hub for destinations all over the Alaska Peninsula. We are located 3 miles from the airport and within walking distance of King Salmon Creek. Our neighborhood is considered residential but most people would call it sparsely populated. We have trails and gravel roads for walking/biking and you can fish for trout and coho (silver) salmon in the creek.
  • Truly a hidden gem. I stayed here as a solo traveler in town for work. I felt completely safe and very at home. The sheets on the beds are the softest ever!! Lots of local information and tips and special touches! Highly recommend this space.

  • Great place, great hosts!

  • Jill and Dave’s place is perfect base for whatever you want to do in the region. It’s everything you want in a remote-ish village like King Salmon. And they are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and all the various trips and activities you can do there. You can tell they've put a lot of thought into what travelers need and want in terms of the actual accommodations. Everything was great, great, great.

  • Jill’s place “The Grotto” best in King Salmon. It’s a home from home away! All a traveler needs you will find at Jill’s place.

  • What a great place to stay! I don’t even know where to begin...I came up to King Salmon solo to explore and get a feel of what this amazing river is all about. Well, I totally nailed it by staying at the Grotto, and I can’t think of a better bunch of people to meet and to have show me the way of the land. Hosts Dave & Jill are truly great people who really went out of their way to make me feel at home...kind of felt like they took me under their wing in a sense! Regarding the Grotto apartment, it was incredibly comfortable, and, to be able to cook, do laundry, kick you feet up and watch a little TV, have WiFi, a bathroom, and a blazing hot shower on demand...yep, staying here is a no brainer! What an awesome set up! It’s close enough to town for convenience and just far enough to be quiet for when you are looking to relax. And, oh yeh, not to mention they are located right next to King Salmon Creek (that happened to be full of fish at the time). They’ve really done an amazing job on both the Tiny House & Grotto, with little custom touches everywhere that give it a warm feel that you can’t get in many places. Dave showed me around town, and even gave a full on tour of the lands near the house. What a wealth of knowledge! Being the State Wildlife Biologist for the area, he knew every plant species, animal species, ext. You’d in fact be hard pressed to find someone else who has more of that great AK knowledge than he does. He showed me the river, and a few good fishing spots (which was a HUGE deal) and even taught me the proper way to grill salmon that we had for an evening feast he’d invited me to share. Jill was so great the second I got there. Also going well out of her way to make me feel at home. Normal sightings of her were with a bucket of berries, or fresh veggies from the garden that I was also invited to use if I craved a salad. Heck, we even went out to dinner one night! Great people indeed! Look for Jill’s Jelly’s, I came back with a homemade jar and it does not disappoint. Yum! Also, to add to that, a fresh can of Bristol Bay Salmon! All in all, 5 stars and 10 more if I could! Dave & Jill are two people I can now call friends in this distant area, and I will stay there every time I come back to town. Thanks for everything! -Scott W.

From Salmon Heights Lodging; a clean, comfortable house complete with Alaskan quirks, such as a sunny porch enclosed like a greenhouse that will quickly become your favorite room. Unless it's winter outside.
The Little House is more spacious than you'd think at first glance. We have plenty of room with hooks and hangers for stuff, and a garden hose to rinse Alaska off your gear. The kitchen is fully functional, and equipped with a sit-down bar so your fellow travelers can comment on your cooking. There's a private driveway for your convenience. Decor is, well...Alaskan!
King Salmon is a major hub for destinations all over the Alaska Peninsula, such as Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park. We are located 3 miles from the airport and within walking distance of King Salmon Creek. Our neighborhood is considered residential but most people would call it sparsely populated. We have trails and gravel roads for walking/biking and you can fish for trout and coho (silver) salmon in the creek.
  • Great place to stay! Jill and Dave were fabulous hosts. Highly recommend staying at the little house. You wont be disappointed!

  • Very spacious, clean and comfortable. Very friendly and helpful owners.

  • Jill's place is much larger than the pictures, and the bed is very comfortable. Jill picked us in the airport on the check-in day and sent us back to the airport on the check-out day, which saved us a lot of money and time. Jill also shared tips to help us with our stay in King Salmon. I truly highly recommend Jill's place, and this could easily be the best place you can find in King Salmon.

  • Excellent place to use as a base camp for day trips out to Brooks Landing. Quite, clean, comfortable, and a most accomodating host. For those, like ourselves, who travel light, having a washer and dryer at our disposal was a BIG plus!! With very limited restaurant choices in King Salmon, one on most days, the stocked kitchen was an invaluable bonus.

  • Always a great place to visit.

  • very comfortable. ex

  • Not only do you get a clean spacious place, but a host who is out of this world. Jill not only met us at the airport with freshly baked muffins. She also made sure all our departures were scheduled properly and made really great suggestions on what we can do at King Salmon. Since we only had one day at Brooks, she told us that we can get on an earlier flight and call the airline herself to make sure they picked us up at the rental and made arrangements for our earlier departure. She answered every question promptly and fully. When I mentioned my concern about feeding my kids and grandparents breakfast early enough for our departure (restaurants are fairly slim pickings at KS), she had her freezer stocked with English muffins, butter, and drinks. There was popcorn and coffee/hot chocolate for everyone, too. We couldn't have asked for a better host.

  • This place is great. It’s clean, spacious and Katmai Air picked us up and dropped us off here no problems. Great communication and a great place to stay if you are visiting the bears at Brooks falls. Everything that you need is there along with little extras which are very thoughtful. Recommended!

    Nice, quiet, residential neighorhood.
  • A perfect place to stay while in Naknek! Brittany furnished the cottage with homemade bread and bagels and stocked the fridge and pantry with plenty of staples. The cottage was extremely clean and stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay in a remote location. The bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of blankets for a cozy snooze. The washer and dryer was very handy to have since the weather there can be wet and cold. We will be back and hopefully be able to stay in the future.

  • It was a fantastic stay

  • Nick & Brittany - were incredible hosts with a fabulous rental home and we had a wonderful experience. The property was amazing, the grounds were clean, quiet and there was plenty of parking spaces. The little house was super cute and immaculately clean, the shower pressure was awesome, and the special touches of home-baked goodies were an appreciated gesture of their hospitality. We had come to Naknek for work and the central location of the property from the coffee shop, boat yards, store, and restaurants was appreciated. For anyone who happens to find themselves in Naknek we highly recommend renting this property from the Popp family.
