Your guide to Jurien Bay

All About Jurien Bay

This small fishing town on Western Australia’s Coral Coast brings visitors in search of soft sand and pristine beaches, impressive snorkeling through colorful reefs, and natural beauty and wildlife underwater and inland. The sandy beaches and nearby dunes attract swimmers and sandboarders, while paddleboarders ply the waves. Besides visiting the many national parks and nature reserves that surround Jurien Bay and show off the region’s incredible biodiversity and unique landscapes, you can enjoy the excellent fishing, watch the vivid sunsets from the Jurien Bay Jetty, and explore the Turquoise Coast, which runs south toward Cervantes and north toward Green Head.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Jurien Bay

Jurien Bay’s climate stays warm all year, making it an ideal destination even in winter. The coolest months of the year — July and August — still bring average high temperatures nearing 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Those months are also the wettest, though even then there isn’t much rainfall. The summers (January through March) can be brutally hot, with the average high temperatures at or above 85 degrees, and even the overnight lows staying above 60 degrees. The intense sun only adds to the heat, so it’s essential to pack proper sun protection for a trip to Jurien Bay, including heavy-duty sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Summer also brings occasional cyclones, so check the weather forecasts before and during your trip.

Top things to do in Jurien Bay

The Pinnacles

Thousands of limestone pillars stretch skyward in a variety of shapes and heights from the yellow sand in Nambung National Park, creating a fascinating and beautifully unique spectacle. While experts don’t know for sure how these weathered natural features were formed, they date back millions of years. Walking and driving loops, picnic areas, and an interpretive center all help you get the most out of your visit.

Sandy Cape Recreational Park

Just north of town, this sheltered bay offers some of the best places to play: a white-sand beach with gentle water attracts swimmers, stand-up paddleboarders, and snorkelers, while the rolling dunes draw people looking to sandboard, and walking trails lead you past breathtaking views of the turquoise waters.

Jurien Bay Marine Park

The limestone reefs that run parallel to the beach form a shallow lagoon just at Jurien Bay, bringing in sea lions, dolphins, and tons of other sea flora and fauna. The rich underwater world makes for excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, and fishing while windsurfers, surfers, and swimmers play on the surface.
