Places to stay in Indian Brook
The St. Anns lighthouse was built in 1905. This was a working lighthouse until 1962. We are restoring it and adding some modern luxuries for our guests to enjoy. The lighthouse is located in St. Anns, directly on the water. On the Cabot Trail. We are centrally located for you to enjoy all of what Cape Breton has to offer. Travel around the beautiful and scenic Cabot Trail. Enjoy the beautiful stars at night, and picturesque views of St. Ann’s Bay. The Gaelic College is just a few minutes away.
Stay at one of the most famous addresses in Canada, the Cabot Trail and at our decommissioned lighthouse. We started renovations in June 2018 and we have completed our first stage in time to open in August 2018. Every year we tackle a few more projects, in the fall 2018 we installed a new red metal roof, it looks amazing! In 2019 we enhanced the interior with shiplap walls, new kitchen floor, new storm door, moved and added a new wood stove to a center location and installed new trim work, keeping the historical Lighthouse in mind with every detail. This lighthouse has so much history. Follow us on Facebook, lighthouse on the Bay and watch our progress. The lighthouse is best suited for 2 guests. It’s super cozy with a king bed (Casper mattress) in the bedroom, and we do have a sofa bed in the living-room space. Our lighthouse is over 100 years old, so with this comes all of its unique features. We love our lighthouse and the natural surroundings, please ask if you have any questions prior to booking. Wake up to the ocean waves, have coffee on your front deck, watch the local fisherman haul up their traps, and take a walk on the beach. Walk our natural beach at low tide, find all kinds of treasures, sea glass and pottery that have washed up. Walk down the beach and find a secluded sandy beach area, bring a chair, beach towel, a little picnic and enjoy. We can help plan your stay, make local suggestions for restaurants, hire a fishing guide, or even provide a lobster dinner. The Gaelic College is just a story drive and Baddeck is 20 minutes. Cape Breton is beautiful. Our lighthouse is located on the bay in St. Anns, where you will see the most spectacular views, and the stars at night are the brightest you will see. Sometimes living in beautiful areas comes with some small inconveniences. Because of our mountains and valleys we can have some areas of the island with poor cell service, including St. Anns. On occasion we might get a local guest come and visit, some of our squirrels try to come in to save food for winter, they never come inside but you might hear them on the roof or the outside wall by the bathroom. Our closest grocery store is about 20 minutes away, in Baddeck. Yes, another inconvenience, but the only traffic jam will be the locals kayaking out front, some seals swimming by or eagles soaring by.
There is so much to see and do in St Ann's and all across Cape Breton. Locals love our varied cultures, and delight in the out-of-doors, as well. So many hiking trails, waterfalls, artisan shops, local restaurants, museums and music venues all across the island. The out-of-doors will always offer opportunities to enjoy our views and active lifestyles. Grab your fishing rod and head out along the streams and rivers that flow through our woods. Or try your hand at fishing for mackerel on the Jersey Cove shore. You can even dig for clams in the bay. In summer, take a boat tour out to the Bird Islands, nesting grounds of the Atlantic Puffin. Or kayak in the world-famous North River. St Ann's Bay is also famous for our world-class artisans. From May through November, you will find these folk busy creating stunning pieces in all kinds of media — you're welcome to watch them work. In the off-seasons, call ahead. In summer, plan to take a couple of days to visit every one!
  • This space is even better than the pictures can reveal. It is a wonderful space to hang out in and a perfect location to explore Cape Breton. Every detail has been thought about. The bed is extremely comfortable. It is very clean and beautiful. The views are absolutely breathtaking. We hope we can get back there soon.

  • We stayed here for 6 days during Celtic Colours. The property is superb in every way. It is ideally located close to the Gaelic College and Baddeck, giving you easy access to many of the excellent music and cultural events. John and Rosella are superb hosts.

  • It doesn't get any better than that. The lighthouse truly is one of the best accomodations we have had so far. Every detail is well thought out and arranged with love. The location and view are awesome. Plus the nice supplies that our hosts provided, including a bottle of wine. We would love to return one day.

    Axel2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most wonderful time at this beautiful lighthouse - we are bummed we didnt book for longer! The view, fireplace, comfortable bed... everything was perfect. If this lighthouse is available, book it now!! Will def be back again! Hosts were awesome to communicate with and made our stay easy and fun! Thank you :)

  • We stayed at the Lighthouse for three nights on our honeymoon and couldn’t have loved it more! It was cozy, awe inspiring and beautiful all in one shot. Rosella and John were the perfect hosts, and we hope to return some day!

    Marg2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • A real gem run by two very thoughtful hosts!

    Bruce2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rosella and John's place was truly amazing! We had such an fantastic stay in Cape Breton. The Lighthouse was clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more! Our hosts went truly out of their way to make our stay extra special. We really enjoyed waking up to the ocean views, kayaking on the bay and spending time up at the top of the lighthouse. We would definitely recommend staying here!

    Meredith2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The lighthouse is a very special place and was one of our favorites during our 3 weeks in Nova Scotia. Rosella and John are wonderful hosts, easy to communicate with and always available for questions and tips. We only had 2 nights but we found everyting we needed for the stay. We did not have the time to use all the available thinks like the Weber grill on the terrace or the canoes to scout the sea. This is really a place to calm down. The interior design is beautiful and perfectly fit to the whole nice atmospere in the kitchen/living room. You always have the view over the sea and there is also an white-headed sea eagle flying around. We never saw one from such a short distance. Very impressive. I can strongly recommend this place. We had a wonderful and relaxed time and we plan to come back but then for a longer time. Thanks a lot Rosella and John for sharing this place with other people :-)

It’s a 30 minute drive to Baddeck to the south and 30 minutes to Ingonish to the North .There is amazing golf , cycling and hiking in every direction . There is a restaurant and a pizza shop within 2 minutes . Both are fabulous ! Both have Wifi .
  • This airbnb is right on the ocean – it can’t be beat. The cabin is very minimal, but has all the essentials. It’s rustic and could use a bit of cleaning, but honestly for the price and location we just can’t complain. If only it was a bit warmer, we would have made use of the hot tub facing the ocean. The evening we arrived it was quite chilly, so we used the fireplace to help heat the place up. There was an issue with smoke seeping into the room from cracks right under the mantle, so we did not use it again. Not sure if it was just the direction of the wind that evening or what, but it smoked us out enough to make us think twice about using it again. That really wouldn’t stop us from wanting to stay here again, since there are thermostats, and the temperature was easily controlled once we warmed the place up. Beautiful spot! Thank you for having us!

  • We had a great time during our stay! What a beautiful property! A little piece of heaven :)

    Mireille2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A great rustic cabin in a remote location on the Cabot Trail overlooking the ocean. It’s a great “retreat” with hot tub and ideally located for golf at Ingonish and Baddeck. A great place to get away from it all; no Wi-fi and patchy cell coverage...!

    Duncan2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to watch the sunrise

    Mark2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful property, an incredible view especially from the hot tub everything you need is provided just bring your food.

    Edwina2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful. The bunkhouse was exactly what I was looking for...to be closer to the sea, you’d have to be on a boat!!! St. Ann’s Bay in full view, I spent the majority of my time on the bunkhouse porch, rocking in the rocking chairs in peace and tranquillity. The privacy is beyond any place I’ve stayed. Two boats passed during my time there. The only other visitors I had were shore birds, grey seals, and bald eagles. Falling asleep to the sea sounds after a dip in the hot tub...rejuvenating!!!

    Todd2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet cabin with a great view!

    Sean2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and value! It was very private as we had the property to ourselves. Directly on the ocean, we had a seal out front a couple nights. Only 40 Kms from Ingonish, excellent location for the Cabot Trail or if you are heading to Louisburg and Sydney areas. We would love to stay longer next time, 4 nights this time! Good communication with Kent, trouble free!

  • So glad I stayed at Loril’s place. Great location for all the Cabot trial activities. Full kitchen so I could make all my meals at home. Very comfortable bed. Loril was great to communicate with and very accommodating. No cell service but very fast internet. Thanks for a great stay :)

    Ben2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Loril's place was a great space for a mini retreat in the Highlands. Beautifully decorated and a good location for a hiking trip.

    Esther2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, great host, ideal location to explore a lot of the Cabot Trail during the day. Quiet in the evenings with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. Loril was very responsive. I would definitely recommend!

    Shannon2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Loril's place on the Cabot Trail. The place is very stylish and well-appointed, with all the appliances and cooking supplies you'd need. She is well situated for touring the Cabot Trail. Heed her warning about proximity to gas and grocery though! As you pass through Baddeck, you are entering a bit of a food and gas dessert.

    David2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Superior place to stay. Spacious, comfortable, lovely setting, gracious host, lots of books to make up for poor internet reception in the area. Recommend highly.

    Wilma2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabins, private area. Lots of yard space for the dogs. Wooded area great for birdwatching and other wildlife

    Annika2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a private place to stay on Cabot Trail, look no further. Convenient to highland trails, lobster supper in Baddeck, fabulous scenery...and much more!

    Catherine2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loril’s place is located along a quieter part of the Cabot trail. It had everything we needed for our 2 day stay including a charcoal BBq. We brought our own portable propane bbq. Her place was very clean, tastefully decorated farmhouse style and bed was very comfortable. She also had a supply of books games and puzzles. There was no TV but the wifi worked great. We were gone all day and home around supper time. Lots of hiking trails around. Loril was quick to answer any questions we had and supplied us with information about the area. I would definitely recommend this place to rent Michele and Dwayne

The old school bus has been converted into a living space this spring. There is a fridge, a propane stove and a sink with cold water. The bus is parked behind the barn for privacy and convenience and is surrounded by trees with a beautiful view of St. Ann's Bay and the ocean in the distance. However, it is only a short walk across the driveway to the house where you can access a newly installed bathroom through the back door.
The end of the bus is divided with a partial wall and serves as a bedroom with a comfortable futon bed surrounded by windows. There is a fold out sofa and a desk in the living area and a table with a bench and two chairs in the dining area. The bench holds more bedding in case you want to use the sofa bed. You can attach curtains with little magnets or you can enjoy the view of tree sky and ocean. The height of the curved ceiling is 6 foot along the middle of the bus.
Have breakfast right at the ocean at the Clucking Hen Cafe about 2 minutes to the north. Visit some of the many artisan stores and studios like Jolene's Leather Works, North Shore Woodsmiths Studios, Glass Artisans Studio and Gallery, Wildfire Pottery or Colouratura Art Gallery, all within 5 to 10 minutes of your accommodation. Walk along the beach, watch lobster fishers haul in their catch, or have a swim at Little River Wharf, 5 min. to the North. The entrance to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park is about 35 min. drive. The park features beautiful hiking trails or you can swim in the ocean at Ingonish Beach.
  • This spot was an absolute gem! Its amenities were very nice, and the interior design was a marvel. We would absolutely stay here again, Heike was a lovely host.

    Alexander2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend staying in this bus for a nice getaway while en route to the Cabot Trail. I loved all the detail they put into the bus. The propane stovetop worked great and all amenities have been covered. The bus was clean and had everything you could need, and the shared bathroom was very clean as well. Heike is a great host and is very accommodating as well as a great communicator. Everything was great and I would definitely stay here again.

    Jolene2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was an eclectic and quaint spot along the Cabot Trail. The accommodations were very private and clean. There is running cold water, but the water pressure is very low. Guests have access to a semi-private bathroom (shared with other guests) inside the home which was impeccably clean and modern. The bus stay at Heike's was a definite highlight of our trip!

    Jessica2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • A skoolie on the Cabot Trail! The only one I’ve seen available. Stay here or I’ll have to send you to the principal’s office! :)

    Cory2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and cosy spot with lovely and thoughtful touches!

    Madeleine2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • One of most unique AirBnBs I've ever seen. Can only recommend - had a great stay.

    Barbara2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The night in the bus was fun!!

    Sabrina2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • My brother and I couldn’t have asked for a better host and place to stay at! It was super exciting staying in a bus and it surprisingly did not feel crowed with all the amenities! The host goes above and beyond giving restaurant options nearby with the times (open to close) and a phone number to call. Would definitely recommend!

This is really just a bed with a roof, surrounded by screened windows. The IKEA fold out couch comfortably sleeps one or two guests. It's a tiny space with a great view. You can see and sometimes hear the ocean from your bed. The gazebo is located on the deck beside the house. With just a few steps you can reach the back door to get into the new guest bathroom equipped with toilet sink and large walk -in shower stall.
  • Convenient if you’re starting on counter-clockwise to Cabot Trail to check-in at 3pm so you’ve already seen / done part of it. Washroom is separate but the door is open for access to the washroom anytime. They turned on the light outside for me to see my way around. For me it’s a different experience- SAFE glamping is what it was. Host(s) are there in case. You see the moon and wake-up at the sunrise. Divine! Also, Clucking Hen (for breakfast / food) is 1 minute away!

    Michelle2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and cozy gazebo. Loved it. Great hospitality by the host.

    Ujala2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great experience, might be tough for light sleepers as you can hear the highway traffic. But I loved it!

    Gabriele2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, cozy space, and got a lot of great suggestions from the host.

    Brendan2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and smiling! Wonderful location :)

  • I absolutely fell in love with this cozy little hut the moment I came up the driveway. Perfect place to stay for a night while on the way or leaving Cape Breton. Only met Heike shortly but she is a very friendly and heartminded person.

    Sarah2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great little space!

    Fiona2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great quick stop on our trip along the Cabot Trail. Even though we really only stopped to sleep and get up and go, we loved the gazebo. It's exactly what you need on a road trip, and it's super cute inside! Heike greeted us as we drove in and showed us around. She had a heater in the gazebo ready for us to use since it was a chilly night. Would definitely recommend and would stay again!

The perfect home-base for exploring Cape Breton, or a clean and comfortable seaside retreat, MacLeod Cove is a 3-bedroom winterized cottage on the Bras d'Or, Cape Breton's beautiful inland sea. Enjoy ocean views and semi-private cove, within 25 minutes drive of Baddeck, North Sydney (Newfoundland ferry terminal), and the Cabot Trail. The cottage is also very private and surrounded by pristine natural environments of forest, creek and cove. Wildlife sightings are common both on land and in the sea. The cottage is fresh and clean with new paint, flooring, appliances and furniture.
We inherited this home from my mother who was a smoker but it has been a strictly smoke-free space since February of 2017. In order to make it clean and comfortable both for our family of non-smokers as well as for you, we removed or cleaned all furniture. We replaced all upholstered furniture, beds, bedding, towels and rugs. We removed all carpeting and replaced it with new carpet or vinyl flooring. We washed every surface, every outlet, and all fixtures. We also replaced the fridge and stove, as well as all of the small appliances. We primed and then painted all of the walls. We have a house keeper who will ensure that the windows are opened, and the cottage is freshly cleaned prior to your arrival with clean linens on the beds, and floors and counters freshly sanitized.
This is very much a private retreat into nature. Our neighbours on one side are about 100 feet away and on the other side, are across our small valley. For the most part, you can't see any neighbours either from the house or the cove. Wildlife is common: many species of birds, fox and other animals populate the area. It is not uncommon to spot a seal swimming by from the cove. The nearest towns are 20 minutes drive or about 25 miles in either direction, so a little planning ahead is required in order to have supplies and groceries on hand. There is an excellent seafood restaurant very nearby - about 8 minutes by car, across the bridge. Gas and Tim Hortons coffee are a little closer as well - about 15 minutes away by car. Within a short drive of the house are long beaches for walking, as well as a natural fresh water fall with a pool for (very chilly) swimming. The house sits directly on the sea, at the base of Kelly's mountain. In the fall, the colours on the mountain are spectacular. The 2 nearest towns are Baddeck and North Sydney. Baddeck is a very popular a picturesque town with a beautiful lighthouse, shops, galleries, many restaurants and both an excellent museum and golf course. The nearest medical center is in Baddeck. North Sydney is a port town with all the necessities: large grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. It is also the location of the Newfounland Ferry docks. An hour away is the much larger port city of Sydney that has all of the amenities as well as the airport which is the only entry point to Cape Breton for travelers arriving by commercial aircraft.
  • Fantastic place and amazing value for what you get - great location and would definitely return there again

    Damien2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Beautiful spot :)

    Korinne2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. The house is as pictured. Excellent location for Celtic Colours festival.

    Benjamin2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy little cottage made for the perfect fall get away. It had everything we needed to cook meals, it was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Getting there was no problem with google maps. There are also some really nice hiking trails within a 30 minute drive. We loved the beautiful view and sitting on the deck watching the water. There isn’t any wifi at this cottage, but we found we didn’t need it. Cell phone reception was perfectly fine! This is a lovely and very relaxing spot, would go back for sure!

    Brittany2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cottage. You will have great views of the water. The kitchen has everything you need. There are nice decorator touches throughout the home. The cottage was very clean. We found the location to be very convenient for our itinerary. We wanted, of course, to do the Cabot Trail, but also see Louisbourg. This location was a good compromise. You will feel like you are in the woods ( which you are), but amenities are not far away. Follow Sheila’s suggestions for the 2 cafes. They were great. If I am fortunate to be able to return to Cape Breton Island, I would definitely like to stay here again.

    Susan2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a truly beautiful, secluded location above a cove which can be accessed down a steep path to a small beach. There is a large deck area which looks out to the water, a gas BBQ, and a line for hanging washing. Inside the house is tastefully furnished throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped but note there is no microwave oven. Downstairs is a lounge with an amazing selection of dvds for movie nights. Louisbourg Fortress is only about an hours drive and it is well worth planning a whole day for your visit. Baddeck is a pretty town beside the lake. Hurricane Dorian prevented us from travelling further afield. Sheila really is a super host - she allowed us to stay an unplanned extra night as we were advised not to drive in the aftermath of the hurricane. We would fully recommend Macleod Cove as an outstanding place to stay when visiting Cape Breton.

    Tony2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place was gorgeous! Easy communication and check in was the icing on the cake. Everything was as expected, and close to everything we wanted to do and see during our stay.

    Michelle2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a great place to use as home base for day exploring from Baddeck to Louisbourg and the areas central to The Big Bras d'Or lakes. This is it. It is immaculate, well appointed and with a great kitchen for any range of meal. Morning coffee on the deck is super quiet and serene, it was like living in the Canadian wilds but just a quick drive out to the noisy Trans Canada Highway 105 and people/places/things.

One of three very secluded cottages at Big Hill Retreat. Experience peace and quiet in a wilderness setting. A very private cozy cabin for 2.
The Cozy A-Cabin is recommended for 2 people . The main floor includes Kitchen and living area and bathroom with shower (no tub). The wood stove along with the electric baseboard heat will keep it toasty warm on the coldest winter night. There's always plenty of firewood in the wood shed attached to the building. The stairs to the loft are steep but well designed and solid. There is a double bed in the loft. The kitchen is compact and simple but everything is there. There is a propane cook stove to the right of the sink. Enjoy the wilderness views for eating, sleeping or meditating.
This is one of 3 cottages here at Big Hill Retreat. It's the most secluded and private of our cottages with an expansive and beautiful pure wilderness view of the Cape Breton Highlands.
  • Fantastic cabin and host. Will stay at the A-Cabin during my next cabot trail road trip.

    Andrew2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at A-Cabin. The view from the cabin is amazing and the trails around the property were beautiful. The cabin had everything we needed. Thanks to the hosts for the wonderful stay.

  • You search the silence? Then go for it. Terry's hospitality is absolutely great. The house itself is very cozy, very silent....we loved it there. The trails belonging to the property are amazing as well. Might be a challenge to get to the house in Winter. :-) Thanks a lot, such a great place!

    Sabrina2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Love the relaxing atmosphere, beautiful trails and scenery. Beautiful pottery! Friendly hosts and dog! 🙂

    Crystal2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. Terry was very friendly and always available if needed. Check in process was a breeze, the place was cozy and clean. The view from the cabin is breath taking, the fire pit outside is a much appreciated added touch, as well the fireplace indoors helped keep us cozy in cool nights. There was ample wood for the fire available. We used the BBQ for our meals, had drinks on the patio under the stars, made a fire outdoors and listened to the crickets. The location is so close to the Cabot Trail - you couldn’t ask for a better spot. My partner and I eloped during our vacation and had such a memorable experience, we plan to come back again with our two pups who also had a great time. Highly recommended!

  • We loved the place, very warm and cozy. We had everything we needed, the view was beautiful and it was so peaceful! It's a short drive to Baddeck, so a good place to explore Cape Breton and the Cabot trail. Highly recommended.

    Joachim2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant stay in the A-Cabin. As the listing mentions, the cabin is clean and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the tranquility. It is possible to walk in the trails that leave directly from the cabin. The cabin is also well located for day trips around Cape Breton.

    Laurie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabin is exactly as described. It is the perfect place for a couple who wants to be for themselves, just bring your provisions and forget about the rest of the world (the nearest place to Buy groceries is 12km away). There is no luxery, but the equipment is sufficient. There is a pond in the property which is wonderful for swimming. The trails give some "wilderness " feeling (but bring good bug repellant). Terry is a very discreet host, but always available if needed. We spend 9 days and will happily come agan.

The Tiny House is in the sweet spot at Cabot Shores between spacious chalets and glamping-style yurts and domes. It's perfect for a couple or single person wanting to have the Tiny House Experience in a comfortable tidy space at Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort, located on the Atlantic coast of the Cabot Trail. Fully equipped with its own bathroom, efficient storage for your gear, and the freshness of local larch wood from floor to ceiling, it is peaceful and practical.
The Tiny House is part of the whole Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort with gardens, forest, apple orchard, Church Pond and access to the Atlantic Ocean. If you like the great outdoors you can go for walks and swims, rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board, explore waterfalls with two hikes out the door, have a fire under the stars... Or if you play an instrument, jam on the stage in our lodge. Or take some time and relax in a hot tub or sauna (for surcharge), join us for morning meditation and more.
  • Make sure you go for a walk to the beach. Oh and desert was fantastic.

    Ken2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and his wife were amazing hosts (as were the staff), and the retreat was more than we could have ever expected. Guided meditation in the morning, hikes to waterfalls, amazing nature, cedar hot tub! The tiny home was very comfortable and clean as well. My only suggestion is to be more upfront with additional fees on the Airbnb listing - for example taxes are to be paid upon checkin and we were charged breakfast though in the listing it said it was included - Paul was great though and took care of these costs since they weren’t made clear on Airbnb, another example of the outstanding customer service. We will for sure be back!! Amazing place and amazing people!

  • Melissa's cottage is a perfect little home for anyone visiting the Sydney area who doesn't want the downtown hotel experience. It was impeccably clean, nicely furnished and decorated and very comfortable! We especially loved being greeted by Melissa's beagle and having lovely horses grazing in the little pasture behind the cottage. It's a quiet, peaceful spot with easy access to Sydney and Sydney River where we attended Celtic Colours concerts and enjoyed a few great meals. We also took a day trip to Glace Bay for a nice lunch and enjoyable visits to the Coal Miner's Museum and the Heritage Museum. Both hosts were friendly and welcoming.

10 foot ceilings, maple hardwood floors throughout, open concept kitchen and living area. There is a bedroom on the main level with a double bed. The large loft has three single beds and a half bathroom. It is very spacious and although the ceilings are angled there is 8 feet head space. The loft has a spectacular view of the beach! There are nice ocean breezes, and you hear the waves of the ocean, quiet and secluded. Pets are welcome, additional fee $75
Enjoy your holiday in central location of Cape Dauphin at the base of Kelly's Mountain, in newly built beach house. This location is close to the many festivals throughout the Island. A 30 min drive to Baddeck, 20 min drive to Gaelic College and start of the Cabot trail. A 30 min drive to North Sydney where you can get groceries and supplies. This beach house is located in an area that is a piece of heaven.
  • What a beautiful view! We loved staring out the window into the ocean and the little bay, and walking down to the beach to explore with our toddler. Richard was quick to respond to our question about wifi, which was appreciated. We drove Cabot trail one day and stayed in the next. Very nice location 🤩

    Nancy2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice "bunk house" with great view of sound (bay?). Upstairs loft (3 single beds & bath) has ladder type access - not good for older folks or young kids. Downstairs bedroom with double bed is no problem for seniors (also bath downstairs). Unit is about 5 miles down a dirt road. Road is pretty good but there are some rough patches. Normal cars are no problem but will get pretty dirty.

    Ellen2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Extremely clean and situated in a beautiful spot, this place is a real stand out. Great base for exploring the island.

  • If you’re looking for a retreat that is quiet and peaceful, this is the place. It is absolutely perfect. We enjoyed the scenic views of the ocean and pond from the deck or in the living area - the beavers were especially entertaining! Beach and pond access is just a short walk down a cleared maintained path. The house itself is absolutely quaint and the hospitality is wonderful. Highly recommend.

  • If you are looking for a place to stay so that you can experience the Cabot trail this is the perfect spot. Located near the start of the trail (right off the trail yet in a tranquil country setting). The home is very welcoming and decorated beautifully - the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to visit the Cabot trail. Plan ahead as the closest store or gas station is about 30 minutes away but once you are there you can settle in for a relaxing visit that makes you feel like you are at home. Most importantly Beth is very quick to answer your questions and is very helpful with the information she provides

    Debbie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Beth’s place was beautiful and very well kept! Clean, elegantly furnished with a fully stocked kitchen, and all the information you need is provided before you arrive! Definitely felt like a home away from home!

  • This is a wonderful stylish home nestled in a tranquil location. The amenities are fantastic and Elizabeth and Chris are incredibly attentive and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer spot to stay to enjoy Cape Breton.

    Kathryn2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing and spotless! Perfectly located right on the Cabot trail (made it super easy to explore) and Elizabeth was awesome in giving us great tips for our stay. Check in and check out was very efficient and easy. Kitchen has everything you need to cook, picking up groceries/filling up gas in Baddeck was a great tip. With the H. Dorian making its way to Cape Breton we also really appreciated that the home was well equipped with supplies should their have been an outage. Thanks for a great experience and the warm hospitality - will definitely be back to this beautiful home when we are back in Cape Breton!

The only thing we missed enjoying was jumping off the dock for a swim as it was too cold. Warm and friendly people with good tips for travel that were useful. Add a nice location to access other areas from. Wish we had more time and that was after 3 nights.

    Robbie2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Well, here's the conundrum: to tell the truth, or to keep this gem to ourselves... For the sake of the generous hosts - and for any travelers heading to Cape Breton - I choose the former. Simply put, this is an outstanding listing. Brand new (as of October 2019), the accommodations are extremely up-to-date and well-thought-out. The location is amazing, right on the sea. The view from the balcony really feels like you have your own private tower by the sea. And yet it is cozy and - above all - quiet. Sparkling clean, and solar-powered/eco-friendly. Christian and Regina were excellent hosts - welcoming us and then giving us the freedom to come and go in peace. I believe they live on the main floor. I cannot wait to see the improvements that they will continue to make to the wider property: landscaping, etc. It's exciting as they grow. One point to note: this is indeed a private apartment on the top floor of a beautiful home by the sea. But travelers should also know that the floor below holds a number of single bedrooms and a common kitchen and bath, presumably for through-hikers on the Cabot Trail. As a hiker, I would imagine this would be heaven. So, hikers take note! Can't imagine too many other places that would be better. Additionally, the layout is ideal for group retreats. However, for individual or partnered "silence junkies from the city" (such as ourselves) it MAY be possible for there to be other guests who could be noisy. There was nobody else renting during our entire stay, so I don't know if this would be an issue. Fortunately, I believe the hosts also live in the building, so presumably noise and disruption wouldn't be an issue for long. And the house is so well-built that the quality of the construction might eat most of the noise. Still, if you NEED absolute, retreat-style silence, you may want to check with the hosts about other bookings in the other rooms. My sense is that the general vibe will appeal to more low-key guests, but better to know ahead of time than not. Again, in short, an amazing place to stay. Can't wait to go back!

    Dave2019-10-18T00:00:00Z

    Oriana2019-10-07T00:00:00Z

Beautiful, rustic cabin sits cozily surrounded by woodlands. This one room retreat boasts a south west vista of the Bras d'Or Lake, inlcudes a veranda with gorgeous sunsets, king size bed, access to the beach and kayaks. What more could you want! It is half way between Baddeck and Sydney and a perfect spot for anyone travelling the Cabot Trail. Restaurants very close by.
This small, non smoking, cozy cabin is a great base camp from which to explore Cape Breton Island. It can comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 children on the futon. From here, travellers are equidistant from the Cabot trail and all things West, to the Fortress of Louisbourg and other sites in Cape Breton. Or simply stay "home" and walk to the private beach where you can go Geocaching by kayak! The views from the property and beach are sunfilled and relaxing. Please contact the host on the day of arrival as check in can often be earlier than 5pm as well there are times that the check out is flexible.
Although not central in the urban sense, Boularderie Island is central to Cape Breton Island, thus ideal for touring all four counties. Here is the breakdown: Start of the Cabot Trail: 12 minutes Baddeck: 22 minutes St. Anns Gaelic College: 12 minutes North Sydney: 15 minutes Sydney: 30 minutes Louisbourg: 55 minutes
  • The pictures don’t do it justice! This cabin is the cutest. Really modern rustic decor makes it super cozy. Hosts provided all kinds of extra perks like coffee, treats and really interesting books. There’s also games, cards and of course the kayaks. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the view. Great hosts, great cabin and great stay.

  • September 10-13,2019 The Woodsy Cabin was everything we hoped it would be and more. The location was secluded, yet close enough to amenities (restaurants, etc.) and a great "jump off" point to begin our Cabot Trail adventure. The space itself is warm, comfortable and inviting and the bed....perfect. We were greeted with a lovely welcome note and pleasantly surprised with goodies of popcorn, chocolates and such. Super sweet and appreciated. To have popcorn by the campfire our first night, looking up at the star filled sky was pretty special. Jody and Parker provided everything needed in the event we planned on staying put i.e. utensils, hot plate, grill, coffee maker, etc. The home was clean, thoughtfully decorated and just a nice space to be in. We particularly appreciated the books by the bedside sharing the local history. It's those added touches that add up. The front deck is perfect for morning coffee or evening glass of wine even if bundled up in a blanket. And I would be remiss to not mention the kayaks!! We spent a morning kayaking to Seal Island bridge, past the lighthouse and back. It was serene; the water calm. I would recommend the Woodsy Cabin. Jody was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any question I had. Thank you, Jody & Parker for a memorable stay.

Welcome to our picturesque Log cabin style home nestled in Ingonish Harbour on the famous Cabot Trail. Just a 2 minute drive from all amenities and a 5 minute drive to the Keltic Lodge and Ingonish Beach. Enjoy your own private patio + firepit, herb/veggie garden & gazebo all overlooking the ocean. A lit path guides you down to your private ocean beach. Living room view of the Atlantic ocean, Cape Smokey + the beautiful Ingonish river valley. See downstairs listing - https://abnb.me/u6TZhw66jN
Situated on the north side of Ingonish Harbour, our secluded little paradise is protected by Cape Smokey so you'll still get a nice calm sea breeze that will keep the bugs away but won't give you a chill. The beds are a semi firm King size (new) and a pillow top queen. The house is located directly on the world famous Cabot Trail but it is down a long driveway so you will not be bothered by road noise at all. There is a great fishing hole for trout, mackerel and seabass directly across the harbour and you can paddle board, kayak or swim right out of the harbour and into the Atlantic. We are surrounded by National Park so you will find many hikes and trails close by. There is a firepit with a great view of the ocean and the Ingonish valley as well as a garden which we invite you to pick fresh herbs and tomatoes or peppers (in season :) The upstairs unit is completely insulated and isolated from the downstairs. Each floor has a private entrance. There is a locked door, a staircase and a wall which separates the two floors. The upstairs guests have sole use of the large balcony on the east side of the home and the downstairs guests have a small deck on the west side so even while guests are outside there is privacy. The only time you might run into another guest is at the water access or in the parking lot. We have strict rules about noise (after 9pm) and a no event policy so you won't have to worry about noisy neighbours. If you would like to rent the whole home we can offer the downstairs at a 10% discount. Events, retreats & parties are permitted only when renting the entire place. The downstairs is newly renovated with a large kitchen area, a bathroom, a TV, a workspace, a queen size bed, a private deck, and lots of space. It will be officially listed on air bnb in April.
Ingonish is a small coastal fishing village. It is quiet and raw during the winter and bustling with tourists during the summer. Ingonish is extremely safe.

    Becca2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was very comfortable and spacious. The view from the living room and the deck was wonderful. Even though it is on Cabot Trail, it is at the bottom of a long driveway which helps it to be very quiet and private. We did not arrive until after dark after a long day of traveling and was very easy to find. Thank goodness for the very nice address numbers. The king bed was comfortable. The kitchen lacked basic amenities; there was no salt or pepper or aluminum foil which would have been nice when cooking. We traveled from the states and always know to buy our groceries in a larger town before we get on the road, but rarely buy these items since most Airbnb's have some. The kitchen could have been cleaned a little better but I am a clean freak! My husband thought the kitchen was fine! We did not meet Tom since we were only there for 2 nights but he always responded if we had a question. I am glad that there was no one staying in the basement because I am afraid they would have heard us walking around- especially the night we arrived.

  • This place is incredible, Tom and Anthony are great hosts and the views can't be beat! Perfect for a quiet getaway and close to many great activities and amenities in Ingonish and the surrounding area. Also, the beds are crazy comfy. We hope to get back there again soon!

  • Boutique hotels in San Francisco and Los Angeles could learn a thing or two from Shauna and Peter’s Place. I’m a clean freak and this place met my high standards, location is great for access to everything (car is a must in Sydney), and it’s very quiet. Shauna and Peter were easily accessible for any info required. Deserves a Michelin star!

    Kirk2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time staying in Shauna & Peter's suite! They were extremely accommodating and provided additional touches to their place that were really thoughtful. The suite itself was easy to find, easy to access, extremely clean, and had loads of bonus amenities. Shauna and Peter checked in on me during my stay and were extremely kind. The location was really convenient if you are visiting Membertou Trade & Convention Centre and close enough to downtown Sydney. Definitely would recommend staying here.

  • Great location / total comfort / will be the best Airbnb experience you will ever have!

  • My stay at Shauna and Peter’s place was wonderful. The unit was incredibly clean and comfortable; with super thoughtful touches that made settling in a breeze. The location is very central and the privacy the unit affords was perfect. I had to extend my stay and their quick response made the process a stress-free breeze. I’d totally recommend staying here for some true east coast hospitality!

  • Beautiful space. I stayed with a few girlfriends and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Went for a snowshoe down by the beach at sunset and woke up early to catch the sunrise. Stunning, plus amazing hospitality. Will definitely stay here again

    Danielle2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Ton’s place was lovely! Check in was easy and he’s a fantastic host. The space itself was stunning - on the ocean and at night the sky is crystal clear/perfect for a relaxing getaway. The private bathroom areas were a lovely surprise - we didn’t end up eating at the cafe on site, but plan on making a point to do so the next time we’re in the area.

    Brittany2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot for an overnight getaway or a weekend trip. We brought our own snow shoes. Had a great time. :)

    Emma2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the cabin, it was spotlessly clean and well heated for January! 2/4 of our group opted to get the linen package which was very well organized. We also had breakfast the morning of checking out which was delicious! Ton was an extremely friendly host and very helpful to answer any questions we had during our stay! I would highly recommend staying at this lovely cabin while visiting Ingonish!

    Marissa2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing time at ZzzMoose this weekend! Ton was amazingly accommodating when we ran into issues with a storm and allowed us to arrange our dates last minute. The cabin was beautiful, and the views amazing. Snow shoeing along the beach was certainly a highlight, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun winter activity to do while staying at the cabin. It is easy enough for beginners and the whole family to enjoy! The cafe was great, the food was delicious, home cooked, and reasonably priced. We will be back for sure!

    Lauren2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay and we will definitely be back! The cabins are cozy during the winter, the property is beautiful and in a great location for hikes and snowshoeing. The Cafe has great food or you can bring your own and cook in the deck. Would highly recommend.

    Brett2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Right in front of the ocean. I would recommend to anyone.

    Maxime2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend had been talking about this place for weeks before we went and it exceeded all my expectations. Ton may be from away, but he had authentic island hospitality - I can't say enough good things about his management of these darling cabins. If you're looking for intimate, playful accommodations, this is the spot for you. My friendly advice is twofold: first, to bundle up well and watch the sunrise from the private beach, and second, to put your phone away during your stay; you're not going to want to miss a moment.

We are located on a dead end road where the traffic is very minimal. it is quiet and very beautiful. The location on the water is the best.
  • If you’re looking for peace and quiet, simplicity, great views and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere this is the place for you. The trailer is well appointed, clean and comfortable. Angelo and all his crew are friendly and eager to help. Highly recommended! We’d also highly recommend taking advantage of a kayaking tour!

The Beaver Dome sits on a raised wooden platform in a secluded wooden area, overlooking Church Pond and the Atlantic Ocean. It has a double bed and chairs to sit and look out of the bay window. The bathroom is a short walk away; there is also an outhouse a few steps away. There's no electricity or source of heat, but solar lights are provided. Hot tub available to rent for additional fee of $50+tax/night (must reserve 24 hours in advance). Our domes are not pet-friendly.
This dome is part of the whole Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort with gardens, forest, apple orchard, Church Pond and access to the Atlantic Ocean. If you like the great outdoors, you can go for walks and swims, rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board, explore waterfalls with two hikes out the door, have a fire under the stars... Or if you're playing an instrument, jam on the stage in our lodge. Or take some time and relax in a hot tub or sauna (for surcharge), join us for morning meditation and more.
Cabot Shores is located in the small community of Indian Brook along the beautiful Cabot Trail. In walking distance, there are artist shops. Besides them, you're really on the edge of wilderness here. Further up the road are more shops and restaurants, but most of them close during the colder months. The nearest supermarkets are in Baddeck and Sydney (both roughly 45 minutes away), small grocery stores can also be found in Ingonish. So it's good to plan ahead and bring supplies if you're planning to cook for yourself.
  • This place has super friendly staff, and is very clean, and cute my only complaint would be how expensive renting the hot tub it.

    Jillian2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cabot Shores was absolutely breathtaking and the staff are so friendly and welcoming! We arrived late and they waited up for us, greeted us with a smile, and helped us to our dome. I would absolutely recommend this stay to anyone. I hope I find myself on the Cabot Trail again one day so I can spend more time exploring Cabot Shores :)

    Sadie2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing find along the Cabot Trail! Would definitely recommend the Beaver Dome - you can see the water from the dome! One of the more private domes too. The evening bbq was a great touch and we loved being able to have a campfire on our site too. Would definitely recommend to anyone driving around the trail!

  • A great place to stay in Cape Breton! Amazing views, accomodations, and food. Highly recommend.

    Caitlin2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing time staying in the Beaver Dome at Cabot shores. The dome itself was really warm and comfortable. I slept like a log for our entire stay. We also had breakfast and dinner most days at the Bistro. It is definitely the best restaurant in the area and the food was delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. They gave us excellent advice on places to visit and driving routes which really enhanced our experience. I would highly recommend and can’t wait to return for another stay.

  • Mark was a phenomenal host; stopped by more than once to check in, say hello, ask if we had any questions or concerns and just chat! Wonderful and thoughtful touches around the cottage that we discovered throughout our time there. Location was a 10/10!! Large, beautiful yard atop lakeside where many fires were enjoyed. Close to lots of hiking trails, shops and quaint restaurants. Can’t speak highly enough about Mark, he even lent us a hiking guide book which we found very helpful and came by on our last evening to say a fair well. Thank you for everything!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at View of the Sea cottages. They had everything set up perfectly for us and it was all very clean and organized. There were lots of towels, dishes, glasses, and linens. The cottage had everything we needed including little touches like water bottles in the fridge and soap and shampoo in the bathroom. There was a BBQ outside and lots of tools provided for cooking outside or inside on the stove. We couldn't get over the beautiful view here, the picture don't do it justice! We were steps away from the water. We came at the off season so it was very cold but the cottage had a nice heating system and it made it nice and toasty in there for us. There was also satellite TV and we enjoyed watching and relaxing with some TV at the end of the day. Overall we had an awesome stay would definitely love to come back.

    Emma2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't be happier with my experience at view of the sea. Everything from the breathtaking scenery to the quaint, cozy cottage exceed my expectations. Our cottage was outfitted with everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked multiple meals with ease; while the bathroom was stocked with complimentary toiletries as well as plenty of fresh linens. The bed was very comfortable, and although the cottage was warm and cozy, extra blankets and pillows were available just incase. Mark and Gina are excellent hosts, more than willing to provide anything we needed, always with a kind smile. I will most definitely return to view of the sea for another relaxing stay!

    Terry2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great value, clean. Lots of space for a single or couple, privacy. Plenty of bedding linens, towels, wash clothes. Bring food and be ready to enjoy.

    Evan2018-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and Gina were amazing hosts! We booked the cottages last minute for three nights and wished we had time to stay even longer. The cottages sit on a beautiful property with a private beach over looking gorgoues mountains. We woke every morning to see this view from the outside of our window. The cottage has a kitchen, TV, satellite, bathroom, small two person table and sofa. Outside is a porch and barbecue that we used as well. Down by the beach they have a fire pit which we used every night we were there. Mark and Gina were extremely kind people and made us feel very welcomed. They even gave us a lot of tips on the tourists attractions and local restaurants near by! If you rent from them you will not be sorry and for the price you can’t beat it! We live in New York City and plan on coming back again!

  • We had a great stay @ the Sleeping Moose. The location is wonderful, we could even see the sea from the cottage. Our favorite place was the (private) picknick table behind the cottage, very close to the sea. Ton is a very hospitable and enthousiastic host... he also makes great Dutch ‘pannenkoeken’ (pancakes) in his restaurant the Dancing Moose. It is a perfect place for a few relaxing days, after driving and hiking the Cabot Trail. The cottage is clean and has everything you need: good equipped kitchen, nice bed(s), good shower and bathroom, and fast WiFi. We recommend everyone to go there; we loved it!

  • The pictures of this place ought to be enough to prompt you to reserve it. You see that fantastic view? It is ultra clean and comfortable. The kitchen is better equipped than the one I have at home! Beds are comfortable. Netflix/Amazon Prime, jacuzzi, what else do you need??? Around the corner from the Cabot Trail. You will want to spend the whole time sitting out on that deck. Marlene is super nice and accommodating. Stop reading reviews now and reserve it before someone else gets it!!!

    Mark2019-09-29T00:00:00Z

  • Pictures don’t do it justice. Pics are great but actual cottage is amazing! Kitchen has everything you could ever need and fridge full of condiments for your use which is such a nice touch. Decorated perfectly, view is breathtaking and hummingbirds entertain as you have coffee on the deck. We can’t think Of one thing that Maureen did not have in the house for our family of 4. Hot tub outside and Milky Way visible is like national geographic! Great location for Cabot Trail and Cape Breton. Maureen communicated quick and check in was a breeze as we rolled in at 11pm on a very dark room. It is a magical cottage !

  • Nice cottage in beautiful location. Worth for the money you're paying. My stay was memorable. Wifi, cable connection, dvds, telephone, washer and every thing you need in stay are there. If you are traveling in fall or winter, expect cold weather for a while, as the heating is off and it will take few hours to warm up the cottage.

  • This is a lovely location and cottage. It is well stocked and everything is in good working order. Jeff and AirBnB were great to work with.

  • Great little place right by the ferry. Beautiful views and excellent value!

  • Jeff's place was VERY clean. The heat pump in the living room was very useful as it was a bit cold in the morning. For people who visit Cabot Trail this place is ideal as the ferry terminal for the trail is literally across the road. Our 3 nights stay was so enjoyable and we made lots of great memories. Thank you, Jeff.

  • Great location, sparkling clean. A very usable well equipped kitchen. Good bathroom. Comfortable living sofas. Bed was good too. We travel as nomad's these days and finding places to relax in isn't always easy on a budget. I felt I made no compromises in this cottage. This place was comfortable and embracing. A great location for getting around. Quiet at night. Anything you might need was in the cottage. I highly recommend. Deborah and Blake

  • Jeff’s cottage is very private with a lovely deck to listen to the ocean. There is everything you need to feel at home and I highly recommend it. Jeff was always very quick to answer any questions I had.

The basement space is ideal for two people. Private entrance with all the amenities for a quiet comfortable stay. Walking trail through old growth hemlocks and yoga studio on site. We do have a large dog, Nelson. He is very friendly and loves to go for walks in the woods. We are conveniently located 10 minutes from the Newfoundland Ferry, 25 minutes to Baddeck and 25 minutes to Sydney. We are looking forward to meeting you and will do our best to make your stay enjoyable. Everyone is welcome!
There is a very unique straw bale constructed yoga studio on site and yoga classes are available for a fee. Big Bras d'or is a fishing village and the wharf is 3kms from Tsuga Place. Lobster season is from May 15-July 15 and the hosts can help you get a" feed " if you so desire. North Sydney is 15 minutes from site, where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and pharmacies .
The neighborhood of Big Bras d"Or is very community minded. We are situated on Boularderie Island which is surrounded by the Bras d"or Lakes. This inland sea of salt water lakes is very unique with beaches, rich fishing areas and pristine quietness. Many of the families in this area have been here for generations, and my own family has been here for 5 generations, originally from Scotland. You won't hear any traffic, noise or disturbances since we are situated at the end of a road and our driveway extends into the woods.
  • Nelson was a wonderful host, we showed up late at night but he greeted us in the morning with a bark, took us on a beautiful guided snowshoe through the woods, toured us around the property, and sent us on our way all the way down the driveway! We especially loved the yoga hut that David and Denise have on their property, it is one of a kind.

  • This was our third or fourth time staying with David and Denise's family, but our first at their house. The space was great for a night; we used it as a jumping-off point for further adventures on Cape Breton.

  • Absolutely amazing! Kitchen is full of all the supplies you need, bathrooms were sparkling clean at our arrival. Donald is the quickest responder I’ve met with Airbnb! The spot is so charming! 10/10 !!!

  • Perfect spot to explore Cape Breton! This space is situated nicely along the Cabot Trail, making it a great base camp to travel throughout the island. The property is stunning; secluded, large yard, fireplace and all the amenities you could ever need. Donald and Brigitta were ideal hosts! Very helpful and willing to provide suggestions on the area (we travelled here on the offseason so finding open places was trickier than anticipated). They left thoughtful touches throughout the property that truly added to our stay. Stay here if you get the chance!

  • This is a great little spot, perfect for a weekend getaway! It is walking distance to downtown Baddeck, close to attractions, with parking right outside the door. I was looking for a quiet place to get away and do some writing and this place was exactly what I needed. It was clean, quiet, and had a little kitchenette to brew coffee and prepare meals.

Welcome to our picturesque log cabin style home nestled in the pristine Ingonish Harbour on the Cabot Trail. Just a 2 minute drive from all amenities and a 5 minute drive to the Keltic Lodge and Ingonish Beach. Enjoy your own private patio + firepit, herb/veggie garden all overlooking the ocean. A lit path guides you down to your private ocean beach. Check out our upstairs unit! https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/23524350?s=51 Please see 'the space' below for a list of upgrades for the 2019 season.
We take your feedback to heart! We had a few common issues in 2018 so we have upgraded the downstairs for 2019. -brand new luxury vinyl flooring in kitchen. -new baseboard heater in kitchen area - completely new ceiling/insulation and a paint job in the bedroom area for complete sound proofing and privacy from the upstairs unit. Situated on the north side of Ingonish Harbour, our secluded little paradise is protected by Cape Smokey so you'll still get a nice calm sea breeze that will keep the bugs away but won't give you a chill. The beds are a semi firm Queen size (new) and a sofa bed. The only time you might run into another guest is at the water access or in the parking lot. We have strict rules about noise (after 9pm) and a no event policy so you won't have to worry about noisy neighbours. If you would like to rent the whole home we can offer the downstairs at a 10% discount. Events, retreats & parties are welcomed but only when renting the entire place. Ingonish is a small coastal fishing village. It is quiet and raw during the winter and bustling with tourists during the summer. Ingonish is extremely safe.
  • Such a cute basement apartment right within the mountains of cape Breton!! Beautiful view. Would recommend anyone to stay here :)

    Alexandra2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The location was as amazing as I hoped it would be. Enjoying a morning coffee on the patio overlooking the water with the gorgeous fall leaves in the background was certainly a fantastic experience. It was pretty rainy the day we arrived, but it was nice to hunker down and keep dry in a space larger than a motel room.

    Meghan2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The instructions for arriving at Tom's were clear and easy to follow. The downstairs apartment felt secure with the lock code, and the view was outstanding, especially with the fall colours! The bed was very comfy.

This is a guest cottage on our 70 acre property located just east of the town of Baddeck on the far side of Beinn Bhreagh. It is a 10 minute drive into town or a 15 minute drive to the Gaelic College in Saint Anns. It is a studio style cabin with Pine interior and amazing Lake views. Located on top of Long Hill Road, facing the Great Bras D’Or, on Beinn Bhreagh Mountain, across the Bay from Baddeck , Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. This is a unique Cape Breton Island property.
The property has approximately 1700 feet of shoreline along the Lake itself. A 1/2 mile long steep winding scenic trail takes you to the shore where a sand and gravel private beach stretches from point to point. It is a moderately difficult hike. The salt water lake is warm for swimming generally from Mid July to late August. Wear water shoes as you must pass the rocky entrance to get to the sandy bottom swim area. Once there you may wish to walk the shores and enjoy ponds, eagles, seabirds, fish breaking, deer grazing and sail and power boats off the shore. The beach is prime for rocks and shell collecting. The south facing cottage has stunning views, a king size bed, wifi and TV. Recreation possibilities on property include kayaking, canoeing, swimming, sailing and hiking in spring, summer and fall as well as snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter. Ten minute drive to the village of Baddeck & Alexander Graham Bell Museum and Bell Bay Golf Course and just over an hour to the Cabot Links at Inverness. SKIING: Bring your cross country skis, snow shoes and skates.
The cottage is located close to the Village of Baddeck. Baddeck is a village in Victoria County, Nova Scotia, Canada. This village is seventy-eight kilometres west of Sydney. It is Victoria County's shire town and is situated on the northern shore of Bras d'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island. It is situated in the heart of Cape Breton Island, considered to be the beginning and end of the world famous Cabot Trail. The name Baddeck is derived from the Mi'kmaq term "Abadak" which has been translated as "place with an island near" Baddeck is home to the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, which houses a museum commemorating the work of former resident Alexander Graham Bell. The cottage is and hour and a half drive to the Louisbourg National Historic site, and 40 minutes from the Cape Breton Highlands National Park where there is fantastic hiking.
  • The view is outstanding and there is a lovely path down to the water. The cottage was cozy and comfortable. We would stay there again!

    Emily2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing spot. The cabin was simple but had everything you needed, was spotlessly clean, and elegantly furnished. The deck has lovely views that were wonderful for a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. The beach you can walk to down the little path was what made our stay. We canceled all our hiking plans and spent our time there instead swimming and finding crabs and starfish. Theresa and Dave made check in easy and straightforward. Beautiful place, hope to visit again!

    Sari2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect retreat for our weekend away to attend a wedding and celebrate our anniversary. The cottage was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed to create a meal there and enjoy the stunning surroundings. The bed was SO comfortable. It was an added bonus that our trusty pooch was also welcome. Thank you so very much and we hope to be back again soon.

    Tracy2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Overwhelming view. Super comfortable bed, 6 on 5 ! Peace, silence, tranquillity. The kitchen is simply equipped, but that's enough for breakfast and lunch. Perfect to have a break of urban life.

    Jacques A2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had an amazing time at Theresa and Dave's place. Everything exceeded our expectations and we couldn't have asked for more. They were quick to respond and otherwise gave us our privacy. We cannot wait to come back!

    Qui2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is exactly as advertised. Except the view is even better than the pictures in real life! There is a path down to the shore and the shore is amazing and long. Good for any fishing/swimming/water activities at all. The hike down is not bad at all but you will want water for going back up. It is all uphill on the way back and you will want water breaks. The bed is comfortable and massive. Big Deck with a BBQ and seating/table to eat with the view. Bathroom was clean with a modern shower. The road is not bad at all to get to the cottage someone earlier said falsely that it is not a good road for a small car. This is not true I made out just fine in A little Hyundai accent. It’s a normal dirt road for a brief period well maintained.

    Mike2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, quiet night's sleep. Beautiful, refreshing views. Clean accommodations. Fascinating history in the local area! Would highly recommend and would stay here again. Thank you, Theresa!

  • The cabin is wonderful! Clean and quiet. Amazing location and view of the lake. Perfect for exploring the fall colours on the Cabot Trail during the day and coming back to enjoy the fire in the wood stove at night. Prompt communication with easy check in/out. Would totally recommend!

The Blue Heron Dome sits on a treehouse platform in the apple orchard. It has a double bed and chairs to sit and look out of the bay window. Underneath is a big deck with a picnic table and fire pit.
If you like the great outdoors, you can go for walks and swims, rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board, explore waterfalls with hikes out the door, have a fire under the stars...
  • Our stay was wonderful! Truly amazing hospitality and helpful information for local activities.

    Ell2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cabot Shores is amazing! Paul and his wife Barbra are sooooo sweet and accommodating! We loved our time hanging out with the lodgie dogie, Cosmo and eating at the bistro buffet. The dome experience was so great, so was the hot tub. It was our honeymoon and they went above and beyond to provide sweet touches to make it feel special. Loved our time and would highly recommend!

    Ariella2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our one night stay at the blue Herron done was great! From the dome you can see both the ocean and the mountains. Highly recommend this unique stay!

    Carolyn2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was simply perfect! The site is really nice, with trees everywhere and the sea is also really close and accessible through a simple « self serve » ferry. Our dome was amazing, combining a beautiful view, intimacy and comfort. The road to get there was a bit risky, but you can leave your car at the entrance and simply walk to your dome. The dome also tends to become really hot in the day. If you leave for the day it is perfect since the temperature is perfectly fine at night. Paul and his wife welcomed us with their open arms! They also advised us on where to stop on the Cabot Trail and that had a great impact on our whole trip! Thanks again!

    Danika2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really unique spot to stay while traveling the Cabot Trail. There are many amenities we did not get to enjoy (kayaking, meditation, etc), but we certainly enjoyed our time in the cedar hot tub! It was right on our deck. Such a lovely way to unwind after a long drive. Everyone working there was kind and helpful. We would highly recommend Cabotshores!

    Jay2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing retreat! The staff were beyond amazing, I loved every aspect of this eco-friendly resort.

    Dominique2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy and charming. Really nice staff!

    Jason2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect! We went in October when it was a little colder and we rented the hot tub for the night, which made it amazing. The dome had an amazing view from inside, where we could see the water and the stars, and when you step out of it there’s a panoramic view of the highlands. We went for a little walk around the property and down to the water front and it was so spectacular. The food was so delicious, even if you’re not staying the night it’s worth checking out the bistro. The staff was very pleasant, accommodating and helpful. Absolutely zero complaints! We plan on making this spot a yearly trip :)

  • Ton went out of his way to cook for us even though it was off season and his restaurant was closed, provided snow removal so we woke up to a safe clear walkway and even lent us snow shoes for our hikes. Great place, great guy.

    Kevin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cabins were cute and cozy (even in February), and Tom was very helpful with tips around the area!

    Rachel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice stay. We enjoyed the simple coziness of the cabin, appreciated the washroom facilities, loved exploring the property, and were happy to have a cup of coffee in the cafe. A simple and accessible getaway location for us. Hit the spot!

    Nadine2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Recommend this spot 100%. Cozy and clean with a view on the water for anyone who wants to enjoy a stunning sun rise.

    Alexandra2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This stay was absolutely lovely. The cabin was the perfect cozy size, and the location is great - right along the Cabot trail. Even in January, the cabin remained cozy - thanks to the space heater that was already turned on, having it nice and warm for when I arrived. Ton was great to show the space, and the washrooms which are a few feet away from the cabin. He also gave me some pointers about the area, which is always appreciated. We brought pizza & snacks from home, as there’s no kitchen appliances, but that was no problem as we were aware of this ahead of time. All & all, I have no complaints about the stay and would love to go back! Highly recommend the Zzz Moose! ☺️

    Kelsey2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ton was the most welcoming host I have met, he greeted us at the door, walked us to our cabin and even lent us one of his frying pans. The cabin was cute and fit the 3 of us and 2 dogs perfectly. Even though it was snowing we were toasty warm all night. We even spent time in the evening on the deck cooking our food. And have to mention the beautiful beach and view. Then we had breakfast at the restaurant and I have to say, the best crepes I’ve ever had! A wonderful stay and will definitely be returning again.

    Lynsee2020-01-04T00:00:00Z

  • Had a great one night stay here while driving the Cabot Trail over Thanksgiving week-end. Check in was very clear and easy, room was super clean and had everything we needed. We had no interaction with the hosts but didn’t require anything and had a great experience here!

  • One night at Christian's but we appreciate the newly built house! The welcome and recommendations was very good. The land is still under construction but access to the seaside is complete and really exceptional.

  • If you want to wake up with a moose strolling around: you have to spend time at Christian’s place! We stayed here for a week and on our last day we were rewarded by a moose doing a loop around the property. Apart from that: we had an amazing stay! Everything is brand new, the views never get old and Christian and Regina are amazing hosts. We got local tips and if you want, you can ask them for some authentic German bread. We explored Cape Breton having this place as our home base and that worked very well for us. If you need anything, you can just ask Christian. He knows the area very well and is always happy to help you out. By the way, he plays piano very well so every now and then you can enjoy some nice music :) we would love to stay here again, someday!

  • Christian's place is really unique, located on the oceanfront over a cliff with access to a private beach. It is a work in progress, but the house is well finished and very clean. The most amazing part is the location where you get amazing views of the Cabot Straits as well as walk on the untouched shoreline. Looking forward to further developments at Christian's property and will definitely stay there again.

  • Fantastic location. We were one of Christians first lodgers and the place is so nice- newly constructed and so clean. One issue we had was driving in The driveway, the road was a bit uneven so the car was hitting the bottom. Something to keep in mind if you don’t have a truck or SUV. We went down to be beach and it’s rather magical. Thanks again!
