Some important additional information. During the Covid 19 situation / throughout March / April... we are only able to accommodate local frontline workers, NHS staff needing accomodation and specific related bookings. We do look forward to taking your booking for forty coming months as availability permits and will give you a very warm welcome. Here is our usual introduction and basic information for you... We are a friendly, welcoming country house in one Dartmoor's most popular locations. We look forward to offering you a very comfortable stay and friendly, warm welcome within the private accommodation. We hope you'll find soaking and bubbling in our new high end luxury Hotsprings hydrotherapy hot tub - pretty special after a day of exploring. (On the odd occasion use of the hot tub maybe delayed slightly on your arriving day due to a warm refill and reheat or extended clean-we aim to have it functional on these rare occasions by the evening) it’s extremely rare that a slight delay occurs. The hot tub is for your groups soul use, it is not shared. We ask that the hot tub cover is always opened and closed by two people. This is lovely, spacious, cosy accomodation; there are two bedrooms and it's located within a private garden level of a large and historic country house (we can add extra children's beds after discussion if required), we've an amazing outdoor private hot tub- with beautiful sky's and Dartmoor air, it's really something to bubble the night away. We have wifi Internet and there's a flat screen TV with Freeview, a fully fitted kitchen with all the appliances you'd expected. The self contained Garden Rooms offers all the expected facilities and more including A Tassimo coffee machine. There's a large shower / wet room and separate toilet. There's a large private natural stone patio, and huge tiered decked seating area for outdoor entertaining & relaxing. The Garden Rooms are lit by an array of sumptuous gentle warm lamps adding very cosy and welcoming feel to what is the beautiful, airy, contemporary and spacious Garden Rooms. The house dates to approximately 1850 and is steeped in published history. We're only a 2 minute walk from open moorland and a 5 min walk from great local country pubs; it's only a 10 minute drive to Tavistock or the River Dart. There's a local post office, cafes and two country pubs in walking distance. We are also a very close walk to The National Park Moorland Visitors Centre. The main floors of the house are separate and our small family do live in the upper house, our Garden Rooms are on the lower ground floor of the main property and private to our guests; we offer the option for well behaved dog guests at a small extra charge (£10.00 per night per dog, we just ask dogs are not left alone at any point ( there are many many dog friendly pubs and some great restaurants too - we can send you an ideas list with this included information), we ask dogs do not climb or rest on soft furnishings and that they are cleaned up afterwards of course), this can be paid on arrival. Of course children are very, very welcome. We have safe key code access available if required, we offer full facilities for couples, familes or small groups of friends looking for some time out in a great location. We are only approximately 6.5 miles from Tavistock - and low cost Taxi fares are available if you fancy a night out with no driving; we'd be happy to assist you in booking a great local relaxed restaurant, or giving you some unique pointers of places to eat, drink or visit-so there's no need to miss out on finding great places. The area is fantastic for relaxing, and exploring the beautiful local villages and the local town of Tavistock. For the more energetic it's a fabulous location for biking (local bike hire's available), riding (local riding centres), climbing (The Barn), hiking, canoeing and kayaking (we can also assist you in booking great kayaking too with a family kayak business), fishing, photography and more... The Dartmoor scenery is hugely varied and really spectacular. There are lots of tantalising 'foodie venues', close by; plus markets and lovely shops in and around Dartmoors local villages and Towns. Dartmoor's a fantastic location to equally enjoy easy day trips to a wealth of north or south coast villages, beaches and river valleys (in Devon and Cornwall). We wish you an easy and relaxing homely stay. We don’t have outdoor lighting, although the hot tub has its own great underwater lighting and the patio doors allow light from the lounge to shine outside near the hot tub. Some guests bring a torch if they are arriving or departing The Garden Rooms in the dark - we recommend you bring a torch for dark nights. The Garden Rooms has some internal stairs, and also a couple of steps accessing The Garden Rooms and the private patio and deck area. Please be aware wet surfaces Inside and out can be slippy of course, and ensure you and your party are in good health to use our hot tub, there's also an wildlife pond. Babies. • An excellent host with a beautiful property in an amazing location for walking, outdoor pursuits or just a relaxing weekend. The accommodation is spotless and well equipped. The hot tub was very clean and a lovely treat in the evening. Holls will help you with anything you need and is quick to respond to any messages/queries. • The holls is such a nice place to stay! The hosts were so lovely and informative and the place itself is outstanding! We all loved the hot tub and would all recommend a meal at the local pub the Prince of Wales

    Tiffany2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had such a fantastic stay at Holls place, the hot tub was a big aspect of choosing this location and it did not let us down. We were all very warm and felt welcome for the few days we were there. We didn’t manage to get out much due to the weather but we felt right at home as soon as we arrived. Cleanliness was the best it could be, the beds were insanely comfy and the kitchen was like a home away from home.

    Mol2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with plenty of space. My boys loved the hot tub and we chilled and watched DVDs as we had a storm while staying. Holls rang to check all ok and all was as we expected- lovely. The kids want to visit next winter.

  • Our stay was wonderfully relaxing (I have been using that word a lot!!). The house felt like a home away from home. It was perfectly located, cozy, warm and so welcoming. Zoe was also very responsive and supportive (even to my silly questions) I would happily come back and recommend!

  • The Coach House is well located and has everything you need. The view out onto the Moors from the garden/ drive is a great start to your day as you head out. You can easily walk from the Coach House out onto the Moors , a real bonus. The log burner kept us cosy on a winter break. The fresh flowers, pint of milk and Jail ale were thoughtful touches , thank you.

A luxurious, rustic haven away from it all. The luxury bits: French linen bedding, robes, soft towels & toiletries, woodburner, a good book, no street lights...You'll probably sleep better than you have in years. The rustic bits: There's a simple compost toilet, hot water in a generous sink and flannels, but no shower.
Our guests often say their stay in the cabin felt like a little pause from the real world. A moment to recharge. We've left it as simple as we can, without foregoing any of the little things that make relaxing time out peaceful and happy. The kitchen is properly equipped, including a fridge and little Belling oven, there's fresh ground coffee, tea, herbs teas, sugar, and a selection of board games, books, and off-the-beaten-track magazines. But our wifi doesn't reach the cabin, and we've not made any attempts to change that. If you do need access to the internet, you are welcome to pop into our house and connect to our network, but we also suspect that you'll be quite glad of the excuse to ignore your emails for a brief moment.
Landscove is a pretty and highly sought-after village in the South Hams. A village hall, a fantastic gastro pub, primary school and church are about the only things that interrupt the organically-farmed fields and Devon lanes, and with no street lights in the area the nights are blissful, and the stars shine bright.
  • Idyllic cabin in a great location. What a place to wake up in. Design of interior is inspiring and garden is not too fussy so lots of wildlife. Highly recommend. Wear pyjamas or use blanket because the cabin will lose heat overnight. Stay cosy.

  • This was a very special and fun stay. Essentially, every cool teenager’s dream abode. Chic, clean, and peaceful. Perfect country retreat!

  • Lovely cabin in a great location. Has everything you need for a cosy and relaxing time away. Would definitely recommend this place and Andrea was a great host.

    Suki2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was so cosy and a perfect little retreat. It was decorated very stylishly and everything was clean and comfortable. Linen bedding was an unexpected surprise! Would definitely return!

Cosy and spacious rustic cabin conveniently located midway between the stunning beaches on the South Devon Coast and lovely walks on Dartmoor National Park to the north. Set in the gorgeously lush South Devon countryside and great for couples and young families who want to get away from it all and for solo adventurers, walkers and business travellers. Private and tucked away, surrounded by 60 acres yet close to the village with its lovely pub.
The Cabin is recently converted, tastefully decorated, self contained and private. It is approached via a stone track and is detached and cosy with central heating and a basic open plan kitchen with counter top belling style cooker, microwave, fridge, sink and dishwasher. The sitting room has a small table and chairs, sofa, a full drum kit for a little excitement and a pretty storage cupboard. There is a gas bbq and a small private garden with table and chairs and plenty of off road parking with little touches that make your stay comfortable. The double bed has a quality comfortable mattress, cotton sheets and fluffy towels and an en-suite shower room. On arrival we will give you a cake to go with your tea and coffee and breakfast, jam and butter, milk, fresh eggs (usually from our chickens) and flowers.
This is a wonderful unspoilt area of the South Hams yet we are not far Avonwick Village and close to some wonderful beaches in Salcombe and at Mothercombe. There is surfing at Bantham beach and we are a short drive to Dartmoor with its spectacular scenery and walks. Avonwick itself is a lovely village with its pub and small garage, not to mention some other excellent pubs in the area with great food including the Turtley Cornmill, The Anchor and The Ship at Ugborough and to name but a few. Totnes, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Exeter and Plymouth are all fairly close thanks to a good road network and the A38 Expressway.
  • This little cabin is warm, cosy and delightful. We stayed for just one night but it was quiet and secluded and the perfect place to take a bit of time out.

    Amy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning little cabin with lovely views. Well equipped and quaint with extra facilities that weren’t expected, ie heated mattress and drum kit. Would not hesitate to stay here again; Rupert & Lisa thank you for having us!

    Charlie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely cabin, we ‘hid out’ here during storm Dennis which just made it even more cosy! Lovely attentive hosts who provide all the little extras you might need. Highly recommend to anyone. Thanks again xx

    Sophia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Rupert’s place is simple, honest and perfect. The feeling of isolation is wonderful. Being close to Dartmoor and the coast it’s the perfect place for exploring. I would advise you not to stay here if you want to cook 3 course meals and watch tv all day. This isn’t that place. Think of Rupert’s place as a cosy, welcoming base-camp for your adventures. Rupert is a genuine host - relaxed, helpful, knowledgable, there if you need him and not there if you don’t. We were in the cabin during Storm Ciara which was great fun. Rupert messaged us a couple of times to make sure we were ok. When our car decided to break down it was no trouble at all for us to stay past our check out time until rescue arrived. I thoroughly recommend Rupert’s place!

    John2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful little cabin that was actually not too difficult to find. The communication was easy and we found everything we need, along with a lovely little homemade cake, and fresh ingredients for breakfast. Would definitely come back and highly recommend! Thank you Rupert and Lisa!

    Liz2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I absolutely loved The Cabin. We have never stayed in anything like it before but we will 100% be coming back! The decor inside was so homely and we loved the little touches such as the cake and hamper with bread, eggs, butter and jam inside along with fresh milk and juice. The bedroom was really cosy, with a lovely en-suite. As we got in late, Rupert left the lights on for us which was very kind of him. He was quick to reply if I ever contacted him and even popped up to say hello and to tell us where to go in the local area which was lovely, especially to hear about the history of The Cabin. As this was my first time using Airbnb I was a little anxious about what it would be like in comparison to reviews, pictures etc but it did not disappoint. If anything, the pictures did not do the cabin justice. My boyfriend and I have already said that we have no doubts that we will be coming back. We cannot thank Rupert and Lisa (who unfortunately we did not meet) enough for everything and are already looking forward to our next stay.

    Georgia2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay! great communication snd wonderful host.

    Glen2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Rupert's communication was great. Information pre arrival was detailed & helpful in terms of directions etc. & then a text to let us know that he'd put the lights on as it was getting dark. This made the cabin feel even more welcoming & homely. The cake & breakfast provisions were very welcome too. We didnt get round to trying the drums but a detached cabin is the ideal location for the set I'm sure. The bedroom was really cosy . A really private space with everythng we could have needed for our 1 night - wish it could have been longer.

  • This is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle, with plenty of amazing walks and areas to explore on your doorstep. The hosts - Emma and Kevin - were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The little touches - like the delicious home-made bread and biscotti - really completed the experience. It was so lovely cosying up in front of the roaring log fire in the evenings, and the hot tub was certainly a plus! Oh, and I can't not mention visiting the goats! :) We had such a lovely weekend in this gorgeous cottage and will definitely be returning. Thanks again!

If you then add in the walks around the area, the amazing hot tub and the exceptional pub with gastro pub food within walking distance, this place had it all. Big thanks to Emma and Kevin for making our stay so perfect. Becky and Simon

Many of Dartmoors long distance walks pass this way, including the very popular two moor way which links the south Dartmoor coast with the Exmoor coast. Best to bring your own car to really indulge your self here on the moors.
once out of our gate you are on open moor. we are on the side of Wind Tor and the route of the Two Moors way. plenty of cattle, sheep and ponies all around us. It takes a little longer, but it is possible to walk to the village across the moor instead of country lanes. We have plenty of maps and guide books to help you! Also in bad weather we can loan you raincoat and wellington boots. Hopefully not needed.
  • We had a great time at Miho's place. Miho and her husband were very nice and we really enjoyed Dartmoor park and the surrounding area.

    Jure2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Miho and Peter are great hosts and Berrymoor is in a wonderful location, right on the edge of the moor and with the most stunning views. Widecombe is just a five minute drive away and has two great pubs, and Haytor and Hound Tor are also close by (plus many other smaller tors besides), which are great fun to scramble up. Recommend the Ullacombe Farm Shop and cafe between Haytor and Bovey Tracy - great for breakfast on check out day! The National Trust’s Parke Estate just outside Bovey also had a nice-looking cafe - sadly we were just too late to try it out; it closes at 4pm during the winter season. We hope very much to return to Berrywood in the future. Many thanks for your hospitality Miho and Peter (... not forgetting Rusty the cat!)

  • We were very comfortable at Berrywood for the 9 nights we stayed in mid October. It was lovely and warm to come back to at the end of a day’s walking on beautiful Dartmoor, especially if we had got caught in a rain shower, which you do get a few of! It is perfectly situated, high up to take advantage of the beautiful views across the valley towards Top Tor. You can walk straight out onto the Moor - go up behind the cottage, to Wind Tor and then on and on for miles across beautiful moorland. You can also walk over the Moor to Widecombe to the pubs or cafes. When we arrived Miho had left some lovely extras for us, a sweet treat after the journey, breakfast cereals, bread, butter, milk and eggs. There were also teabags and ground coffee in the well equipped kitchen. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. The shower in the bathroom is very good and there is always lots of hot water. Peter and Miho are excellent hosts, very welcoming, with extensive knowledge of the Moor and gave us lots of tips and advice on good places to walk if we needed it. And we enjoyed a special evening with them at a music event in the next village. In the cottage there is also a vast library of maps and literature to help plan your stay. I must just mention the stunning views from the main bedroom window. Always changing with the weather, it was so relaxing to drink a cup of tea and watch the landscape changing beneath the amazing skies. Thank you Miho and Peter!

    Rosemary2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • All five-star ratings are rather unpleasant, but Berrywood Cottage and Miho's hospitality were just right. A trip to Dartmoor, which has always been a dream, became the best memory. I'm really thankful to you! I would like to revisit again.

    Eriko2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The morning and evening views from the large windows in the bedroom are the best whether it is cloudy or sunny. The view of the nomadic sheep and the hail is also fantastic. The kitchen was complete and I wanted to cook using the oven if I had time. Personally, the point is that there are a lot of towels! It was really helpful to have the laundry serviced! !

    Nami2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage with stunning views. We were welcomed warmly by the host on arrival and shown very graciously around and informed of where everything was. The host also left some very tasty treats for us in the kitchen.

    Alan2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic quiet beautiful location with great hosts!

    Bella2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable cottage in an amazing location. Miho and Peter were very kind and careful hosts and we felt very much at home as soon as we arrived. There were generous provisions for breakfast and the house had everything we needed for our stay.

Sophie & Jim welcome you to Swallerton Gate Annex self-catering accommodation. It is part of a 17th century thatched cottage that used to be an old inn. The annex was once stables hundreds of years ago, but is now fully furnished with kitchenette, shower room & a comfortable double room. There is a small double sofa bed which can take up to two people for a short term. We are situated in the heart of Dartmoor, next to Hound Tor. Beautiful surroundings, walks & views aplenty. Dogs Welcome!
Double Bed in bedroom Shower & loo kitchenette, dining table, tv, internet (not the best as we are at the end of the line and have no fibre optic!) and sofa bed in font room
We are in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. We highly recommend the following pubs/eateries in the area: Hound of the Basket Meals (burger bar in Hound Tor car park) The Rugglestone Inn (Widecombe-in-the-Moor) The Old Inn (Widecombe "") The Kestor Inn (Manaton - excellent Sunday carvery in particular) The Tinpickle & Rhum (Haytor) The Rock Inn (Ilsington) But there are many more excellent places to eat a short drive away! There are many attractions (other than the amazing walking/riding/cycling around here) such as Becky Falls (Manaton), Sexton's House (Widecombe), House of Marbles (Bovey Tracey)
  • Great place to stay in Dartmoor - highly recommend! Sophie and her partner are very nice people, very hospitable, and their annex is just great. Very good bed and living space, and a really nice garden. The Hound Tor is literally a 2 minute walk. Good location for many walks. Don't hesitate!

  • Lovely hosts and a lovely very quiet and rural retreat! Stunning surroundings!

  • What a wonderful location this is! A lovely little thatched annex, light and airy yet equally cosy in the cold weather. Welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts offering the perfect location on the edge of Hound Tor. Great place for relaxing in the warmth and cosiness of the burner after a ramble over the moor on a cold weekend, would definitely want to stay again, even in winter! Location is desirably secluded whilst also giving easy access to the moor and Tors, the ample pubs and eateries as well as places like Becki Falls, the Dartmoor Pony Centre and Ullacombe Farm Shop. Quiet, cosy, convenient, clean and highly recommended. Our grateful thanks to Sophie and John.

    Rhi2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and a cosy place to stay. The annex was immaculate, plus there were lovely touches of homemade bread, fresh milk and butter. The fire was cosy, and the bed very comfy. If you like walking the surrounding area is divine! Fantastic hosts and perfect location, highly recommended.

  • Lovely cosy little place right in the middle of Dartmoor. Fully recommended!

    Sarah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a find this was! A very reasonably priced, thatched cottage in the beauty of Dartmoor. Sophie was a wonderful host; being plant based - she made sure we had dairy alternatives and brought us a freshly made loaf when we arrived! The cottage has absolutely everything you’d need. It’s so peaceful, cosy and warm. Set in the middle of nowhere, it’s only 25 mins from the beautiful Devon coastline. Plenty to do and see if you can bear to leave the cottage! The worst part was having to leave. Hope we can return there soon. Highly, highly recommended!!

    David2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! A great little place in the middle of Dartmoor to get away from it all and a great base for good hikes in the local area. Sophie was a fantastic host and even baked us a fresh loaf of bread to enjoy during our stay, a fantastic personal touch! Want to go walking in Dartmoor and need a place to stay, STAY AT SOPHIES!

  • We were looking for somewhere remote with immediate access to Dartmoor for rambling and it was absolutely perfect, a short drive to some lovely Devon towns and the coast too. The space itself is extremely comfortable and offers everything you need for self catering and enjoying cosy nights by the fire; there are a couple of lovely local pubs nearby too (walking distance if you are feeling energetic). We will be back to stay again sometime in the future for certain.

    Zoe2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. The barn has all the basics you need to enjoy the space. It’s set in what feels like the middle of nowhere. Widecombe is within walking distance with some great local pubs. Stephen is a great host and had the fire going ready for when we arrived and fresh eggs from the farm was an additional surprise. Will definitely be back.

    Becky2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely converted barn with views overlooking the farm and moors, easy to find and access. The fireplace is so cozy after a day out and the facilities are great, with a lovely super king bed. There is no TV but it has WiFi and radio so more than sufficient. Stephen was very hospitable and welcoming, fresh eggs provided, lots of firewood and also gave us a OS map to borrow when we decided not to trust Google's directions! (shortest route somewhere is not necessarily the best/easiest!) Good location for a secluded escape but near enough to travel to the coast or hike the moors.

    Ami2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely peaceful and cosy place to stay. The fire already lit and eggs from the farm on arrival was a nice welcoming touch. Very easy to check in and hosts always available if needed. Will definitely come to stay again.

    Rosanna2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place in a lovely location. Perfect cosy, getaway in Dartmoor but with everything you need to be comfortable. The wood burning stove was particularly great!

    Lucy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for some R&R! No tv, a log fire, Dartmoor walks with our dog, it was bliss. We had a really relaxing stay and would thoroughly recommend. Widecome is just down the road and has some lovely pubs and cafes as well.

    Sally2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful place in a beautiful remote part of Dartmoor. Perfect for those rainy days (we had our fair share) and the abundance of wood for the wood burner meant a wonderful relaxing stay with a cozy fire despite the weather. Stephen and family were very kind and helpful and were always available if needed. Thank you for a great stay.

    Donna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Yonder Shippon was well equipped, cosy with a brilliant wood burner and comfy bed making it a perfect pace to relax and unwind. It is brilliantly positioned for great walks from the cottage up on to the moor and so much to visit near by. We will be back.

Widecombe in the Moor, United Kingdom

Situated in the middle of Dartmoor National Park, this somewhat quirky 1970s bungalow is ideally situated for walkers , cyclists or just driving around looking at the wonderful scenery and visiting places of interest. Secure place for storing bikes and drying clothes and muddy boots. Parking on drive for car. Well-behaved cat-friendly dogs welcome by arrangement and for a small nightly fee. (Sorry, no entire male dogs)
Small single bedroom, with lovely view over fields and moor. Radiator, desk and chair, bathroom adjacent.
Postbridge is in the centre of Dartmoor National Park, with its famous clapper bridge, and is a great place for walking or cycling from. The well known Warren House Inn is approx. 1.5 miles from the house, where there is always a warm welcome and good pub food, including a vegetarian menu.
  • Judy is a very kind, caring host with a great sense of humor. I laughed a lot the last few days. She made me feel like home, what I really needed. Her home is in the middle of nature, so I would recommend this place to anyone who likes nature.

    Maxime2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is a wonderful host and the location is perfect to discover this beautiful region.

    Yann2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is an amazing host and anyone who has the pleasure of staying at her sweet Dartmoor home, will be greeted with with great hospitality and warmth. It is the perfect place to escape the busyness of cities and to enjoy nature at it's best. From wild horses and ponies running around the the most picturesque tors, being surprised by a close encounter with a deer, to local farm animals and the friendliest furry friends. Staying at Judy's was a wonderful experience whatI can truly recommend to everyone who are looking for a bit of downtime and exploring Dartmoor national park

    Stiina2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable bed, powerful hot shower and bonus of somewhere safe to keep my bike.

    Mike2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning place with fantastic views and scenery. Judy is the perfect host. Always available but not intrusive. Couldn't be more happier with my stay. Harry the Cat, Ted the three legged dog and Obi the Russian Borzoi (Russian for FAST) where also a welcoming part of the household. Would definitely recommend a visit! <3 Situated near Warren House Inn it's idealistic setting caters for all. Scenic walks, four star eateries, Public Bridal paths and a nice place to stay. However, The Post Bridge Stores do have limited supplies so taking your own cheese, wine and tobacco is thoroughly recommended. Judy's house is warm and welcoming in a very quiet and quaint setting. Thank you, Linds x

    Lindsey2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is wonderfully warm and welcoming and makes you feel relaxed straight away. Her tucked away peaceful little home is quite magical, spotlessly clean and very homely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and can't wait to go back again.

    Rosie2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with Judy exceeded all expectations. From Judy's kind hospitality, wonderful sense of humour through to the beautiful home she has created for herself and her animals. If you are a nature and animal lover this stay is for you. Nestled down a lovely country lane on the moor, Kit Lodge offers quietness and respite from a busy world, whilst also being accessible to other great treasures on the moor - the third highest pub in England, the wild ponies, the sheep, Tavistock and Chagford are lovely places to visit too. I hope to see you again one day Judy. Thank you.

    Jane2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a quiet & peaceful location to explore Dartmoor, then Judy's is the perfect place. Judy was the perfect host. Allowing me to arrive a little early & even provide me with a pair of wellies when it got a bit wet on my stay. I stayed in her single room, which was perfect for me, with my own private & very clean bathroom. I am an animal lover, so the fact that Judy has 2 (very friendly) dogs & a cat wasn't a problem. The views from the large patio windows are amazing & I could have sat for hours just watching the birds that come to visit her bird feeders. I feel the photos of her house really don't do it justice. It is bigger & brighter inside than the photos lead you to believe. I would highly recommend Judy's, & hope to visit again soon.

  • We’d only planned to spend two nights at Toms lovely cabin, but after the UK went on lockdown we were so grateful that Tom let us stay for what ended up being a total of eleven nights whilst we got things sorted. We could have happily stayed longer and miss it already. When we arrived at night the fire was burning, fairy lights were hanging in the porch, and with nothing but fields surrounding us, save for the stars, we had truly found a gem of an Airbnb. The place was spotless and Tom and his family were always on hand seeing if we needed any more supplies. We couldn’t recommend this place enough, and hope to return again in future to enjoy the cabin and walk in the nearby woods once more.

  • A great spot to base oneself. The room is lovely and cosy, the bed comfy, and the room keeps nice warm. The shower is clean with plentiful hot water and the kitchen well enough equipped to produce a home cooked meal at the end of each day - I went at the end of November so that was all pretty important to come back to after a day’s walking. Thoroughly recommend!

No mobile signal but there is limited broadband. Well behaved dogs welcome. There is a small daily charge per dog payable on arrival.

There are straight stairs from the hall (with boot tray and hooks for hanging coats) up to the kitchen/living room area. One bedroom with king size bed. Chest of drawers and swing mirror. Hanging rail is in under stairs cupboard. Second twin bedded room with chest of drawers and swing mirror. The bathroom has one generously sized shower, heated towel rail, WC and wash basin. WiFi is available but is not very speedy. Books, board games and jigsaws. Wood burning stove. First basket of logs included. Electric radiators in all rooms keep it cosy at all times. We do have much loved and treasured cats so guests and their dogs must be OK with that.

There is a Post Office Stores (that stocks essentials) the East Dart Pub, and the National Park Visitors Centre all close to the famous clapper bridge over the East Dart river. St Gabriels Church is just up the road. Widecombe-in-the-moor is 4 or so miles away. Chagford and Moretonhampstead are all within an easy drive. Grimspound and The Warren House Inn, (highest pub in Southern England) are also in easy walking reach plus Soussons Forest to explore. This area is famous for fantastic birdwatching and other wildlife. Enjoy dark night skies and peace and quiet
  • We just had a blissful 5 days at the cottage. The area, the scenery! It is truly spectacular. If you love the outdoors and walking then this is the place for you. It is near so many great places but peaceful. The fire was great at night. The hosts were super friendly - despite the looming Coronavirus. We were unlucky pubs had just shut but in normal circumstances there are loads of great places nearby. You don’t even need that anyway, the moors are enough. We saw wild horses, deer, eagles and millions of sheep.

  • Very idyllic setting, lovely modern and clean interior but still retaining its character. Great weekend getaway!

    Michael2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful spot to stay. The cottage was spotless, beautifully turned out, with everything you need for a stay, very cosy with the log burner and perfect for curling up round the fire after a good walk to watch the rugby! We had a lovely welcome with tea and biscuits ready for us when we arrived and Steve was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is in a stunning location with beautiful walks from the door. Five stars all round, one of the best AirBnB's we've stayed in!

    Ken2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Steve's place is comfortable, warm and cosy. We unfortunately has storm Jorge with us but Steve's place is kitted out with plenty of cooking essentials so staying in wasn't an issue. There are walks that can begin at the home and plenty more within a couple of minutes drive. Steve and his wife very kindly checked up on us during the storm and made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing break. Thank you Steve!

  • Steve and Tessa were the perfect hosts and we had a lovely time. The barn is cosy and comfortable and we are already looking forward to our next trip!

    Marisa2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our stay in the barn. It’s warm and cosy on a winter’s day and the scenery is beautiful. Steve and Tessa are friendly and approachable hosts. We had lots of picturesque and exhilarating walks with our dogs all a stone’s throw away. It’s super clean, great amenities and perfect for our family. The kids asked to stay forever! The children especially enjoyed watching the birds out of the window of the bedroom where the bird feeder is. We saw literally hundreds of them including woodpeckers which were the favourite. Thank you for a great stay.

    Dawn2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We visited on a very blustery and wet weekend while storm Dennis was raging, but the Barn was the perfect place to shelter from the weather. We loved the homely feel and the log fire kept us cosy and helped to dry off our damp clothes between walks. The location of the Barn is incredible - ideally situated for walking on Dartmoor, but wonderfully isolated from the rest of the world. Steve and his wife are also fabulous hosts - I can’t wait to come back!!

    Becky2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing 2 nights here. Fantastic location for exploring Dartmoor, amazingly clean and cosy place, the log fire was so nice! Well equipped kitchen, comfy bed etc etc. Our hosts were really lovely and have even offered to post my phone charger back to me after I realised I had left it there! We will 100% be back again, thanks so much for an incredible stay! Bertie and Paola

Remotely situated in middle of Dartmoor, near hamlet of Hexworthy, 13 miles from Yelverton. Comfortable granite barn conversion with its own garden in working farm yard, offers self catering base in the Dartmoor National Park. Open plan living space, exposed beams, AGA and king sized bed. Ideal for exploring Dartmoor on foot, by car or by bike. A bridle path runs through the yard should you want to walk to Hexworthy, Princetown, Postbridge or beyond. A converted granite barn, it has painted stone walls and exposed beams. The open plan living space is warm and welcoming. It has most amenities (shower/washing machine/AGA) but is free from many of the distractions of modern life, there is no traffic or light pollution; the nearest mobile phone signal is half a mile up the hill. Get away from the world for a week! Please note the cottage has a shower room, no bath so no long soaks but who would want to with all of Dartmoor to explore!
Please note we are 13 miles from Yelverton, that is our postal town. See map for our specific location as we are situated remotely in the middle of Dartmoor. You and the farmers are the only people for quarter of a mile but yet if you travel to a local pub of an evening you will find a thriving (and surprisingly diverse) local community. Our local, The Forest Inn, has yummy lunch and evening menus and is within easy walking distance. The Warren House Inn, The Rugglestone and The Old Inn are all local favourites. Ideal for those who like to walk in wild country, fish (permit required) or see iconic sites such as the Clapper Bridge at Postbridge, Haytor rocks, Dartmoor Prison or visit our local market towns.
  • This is an amazing place. Fantastic setting on a working farm and Alison and Anton very welcoming (as were the farm dogs). Lower Barn is really cosy with everything you could need.

  • If getting away from it all in the heart of Dartmoor is what you're looking for then go no further than The Lower Barn at Sherberton! A perfect cosy cottage in the most idyllic setting with every comfort catered for. Comfortable bed, great shower, well equipped kitchen, and an Aga that keeps everthing snug and excellent for drying clothes after wet walks. It is also very peaceful. The Wifi is excellent so lack of mobile signal wasn't an issue. Alison and Anton are great hosts, thinking of everything..the delicious cake you left for us was a lovely touch. We so much enjoyed talking to you both about the farm and surrounding area, tips on walks etc. We highly recommend this place....if you love Dartmoor, going for walks and returning to a warm, quiet, cosy cottage then this is for you! We look forward to coming again! Imogen and David

  • What a fab little cottage, perfect if you want a base for walking/running/climbing on Dartmoor. The Aga keeps the place super cosy, if you're a fan of the outdoors you'll have everything you need at the lower barn!

Set in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, The Annexe at Torgate House offers private accommodation, comprising of a bedroom with wood burning stove, a kitchen and dining/living area and a bathroom with bath and shower. The large gardens offer stunning views across Dartmoor, and unspoiled night skies. The Annexe is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and photographers, as well as anyone looking for a tranquil getaway.
The Annexe is part of a Victorian property, with wooden floors and sash windows giving fantastic views across Dartmoor - on a clear day it is possible to see as far as Torquay from the garden. The Annexe was originally the office of the Duchy of Cornwall in Dartmoor. The kitchen and dining area in The Annexe includes an electric cooker, kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave, ideal for self-catering. Cutlery and crockery are provided. There is also a sofa and armchair, as well as a dining table. The bedroom has a double bed - there is space for a single bed and/or a travel cot, both of which are available on request. Please note that the single bed is a foldaway type, although it is comfortable! The bathroom includes a bath and shower. In addition to the woodburning stove, The Annexe benefits from central heating radiators in all rooms.
We are located within a 5 minute walk of Princetown, which has several good cafes, two pubs, a fish and chip shop, and the Dartmoor Visitor Centre. Torgate House is located in the heart of the moody and atmospheric moorland that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Hound of The Baskervilles. Furthermore, Princetown is home to Dartmoor Prison and the Prison museum, and a historically significant church. There are numerous cycle routes, footpaths and bridleways nearby which service Princetown. If you fancy somewhere a little more populated, the nearby stannary town of Tavistock is just 20 minutes away by car, and Plymouth is less than a 30 minute drive.
  • A fantastic gem in the heart of Dartmoor. Spacious and homely, this is certainly more than just an Annex. Ideal for basing out of for hiking and other activities on the Moors and only a 5-minute walk from pubs and other amenities in Prince Town. Justina and Liam were perfect hosts and couldn't do enough for us throughout our stay. Really highly recommended and we will certainly return. Thank you.

    Shaun2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very relaxing 3 days here. Liam and Justina were very welcoming hosts. The Annexe was spacious and had everything we needed, and the views of Dartmoor are stunning. Unfortunately the wood burner was not working (which Liam explained beforehand) but the Annexe was still warm anyway so not really an issue. Definitely recommended!

    Chris2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Annexe, the house is beautiful and we had everything we needed. And the view... wouaouh! Amazing! Liam & family are very kind and helpful. And Dartmoor is really to be visited! We'll come back, for sure!

    Delphine2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The Annexe was lovely, even better than we expected. It's in a very picturesque spot but only a short walk to the nearest pub. Liam and Justina were great hosts.

    catherine2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in the annexe, great communication beforehand and easy (and flexible!) check-in. Justina was very accommodating and gave us some great tips for things to do locally. The Annexe is private and has everything you need, as well as offering beautiful views over the moors, yet is within a very short walk of Princetown which is handy for an evening trip to the pub! Would definitely stay here again, thank you!

    Natasha2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at The Annexe is like having a piece of Dartmoor to yourself where the tranquil woody location with views of tors to the horizon reinforce the remoteness, yet you are only five minutes from a great walker’s café and pubs. Over breakfasts I have watched deer grazing in the garden, mist burn off in the valley, sunrise over the tors or absolutely nothing through dense cloud. Liam is a friendly and helpful host. The bath is big and the water hot. The location for walking and MTB cycling is excellent.

    Mike2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Annex at Torgate house is an historic building that provides modern comforts. Of all the towns we visited in Dartmoor I could not have picked a better one to stay in than Princetown. While a small town it hosts the excellent Dartmoor Park Visitor Centre, historic Dartmoor Prison museum, several pubs, and you walk right into the. Arian Park from your front door. Tavistock is a short drive away and provides good shopping opportunities of all kinds. You will enjoy your time here no matter what the weather may bring.

    David2019-09-12T00:00:00Z

Sumptuous, elegant, and stylish, just refurbished by local interior designers 'Artists and Artisans', no expense spared, all creams and golds, our look is described as 'Jane Austen Romantic'. Spacious double-aspect room with the 'WOW!' factor! Indulge! Egyptian cotton bed linen; thick, soft, fluffy, warm towels and bath robes, heavy curtains, window-seats and luxurious deep-pile carpet. Antique furniture, original oils, period fireplace, large Freesat TV, free Wifi. Proper ground coffee, fresh milk, variety of teas, spring water, The White Company 'flower', gold rimmed porcelain etc The sun beams into the bathroom in the mornings, or enjoy a romantic candle-lit evening soak in the enormous bath built for two. You'll also find a separate shower, bidet and period fireplace. Retire, and wake up to total peace and silence - just the natural sounds of the countryside.
We offer a luxurious home from home - you are our VIP guest. We love having people to stay, and enjoy your company. Wydemeet is furnished for family and friends to relax in, offering sumptuous, elegant, indulgent, cosy comfort in a 'Jane Austen Romantic' style which is in complete sympathy with the architecture, location and mood of the house. High in the centre of the moor, Wydemeet is a family home, surrounded by wilderness, animals, and a certain amount of mud. We aim to provide the sort of friendly, warm, relaxed atmosphere of a top country house hotel, where nothing is too much trouble, but we're a lot cheaper and hope to be a bit less formal - more private and personal. Because our policy is to have just a few guests staying at any one time, we are able to be almost entirely flexible according to your individual needs and timetables. Check in and check out times are relaxed. Come down for breakfast at 11 o'clock in your pyjamas if you like! Otherwise we serve breakfast anytime from 9.00am. Feel free to wander around all day. Pop your champagne in our fridge and your wet clothes on the Aga - or we will wash them for you. Lie back in the hot tub, wander around the large garden, or investigate our six acre field full of wild flowers. Our intention is to offer you the happiest, most indulgent, romantic and memorable experience. We are at your service 24/7, and you are the focus of our attention. But what's really special about Wydemeet is its location. There is nothing else like it. So beautiful, so hidden, so wild, so silent, so unspoiled, so magical. Of all Dartmoor, even the locals choose our spot to celebrate their important occasions! We very much look forward to greeting you with a well-earned complimentary cup of tea and piece of cake, or a glass of wine, after your stunning journey to us across wildest Dartmoor! Included is a scrumptious Aga-cooked substantial breakfast of best quality local produce, prepared to order in the elegant dining room. Local bacon, sausages, eggs from next door cooked to order however you choose, porridge, fresh fruit salad, and home-made jam and marmalade, artisan bread and warm croissants, smoked salmon, or anything else you can think of. Fresh orange juice complete with bits. The house is furnished throughout with deep pile carpets, heavy curtains, squashy sofas, original paintings, photographs, old rugs and antiques. Your mobile phone will work if you join Panda and Vegas, our well mannered horses, in their large field. Or else feel free to use our landline. We love dogs and children but we have conditions. Dogs stay in the main downstairs hall of the house with our little chap - Twiglet. And children should be happy to sit calmly for breakfast with the grown-ups, on light-coloured upholstered chairs, at a polished mahogany dining room table, without spilling. The house was built 100 years ago in central nothingness, near the confluence of the Swincombe and West Dart, as a luxurious fishing lodge. Escape from the real world - walking, riding, cycling, fishing, wild swimming, climbing, kayaking, bird-watching, are all on the doorstep of our luxury B&B. There are even two golf courses built into the moorland itself, less than 20 minutes away! For the less mobile, amazingly there is a smooth path suitable for old-fashioned prams, wheelchairs and walking sticks, possibly even zimmer frames, that takes you nearly two miles along the bank of the River Swincombe through total wilderness, not a soul in sight! Return to relax and unwind on a sun lounger in our oh-so-private garden, or simply lie back in our jacuzzi watching the stars, as birds and bats circle in the branches of the trees above by the light of the moon, in the height of summer, or surrounded by snow! We think we're the only B&B on high Dartmoor that's got its own outdoor hot tub! The best food on Dartmoor, cosy pubs and cream teas are a just a short walk away. Until recently Wydemeet was lived in by a famous polar explorer, and there are still various Arctic artifacts dotted about. Situated on a dead-end lane leading to nowhere (well actually ending in a traditional Duchy hill farm complete with ponies, chickens, cows and sawmill), there is nothing here to disturb you or wake you up, save the neighing of the ponies on the moor outside the gate. Our back garden comprises all Dartmoor, ponies, sheep and belted galloways, buzzards, herons, kingfishers in the sky, trout and salmon waiting to be fished in the river. It's all rather like a mini-Scotland, but drier, warmer and sunnier with fewer midges, and considerably closer to civilisation! The house sits in the centre of 365 sq miles of the Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by footpaths and bridleways. Four sets of ancient stepping stones across the Rivers Swincombe and Dart lie within half a mile. An hour's walk, and you will find yourself in the eerie village of Princetown and its famous prison. To the south is Fox Tor Mire, better known as 'Grippen Mire' in The Hound of the Baskervilles, when a man drowned in it. A gentle twenty-minute stroll takes you to the fabulous Forest Inn at the end of our lane, forty-five minutes across fields and moorland and you can enjoy the ultimate lunch at Prince Hall Hotel, perfect cooking in a gorgeous and very friendly ambiance. Or try "The Wydemeet Challenge" - ten miles across every kind of terrain as the crow flies to the Warren House Inn - the second highest pub in England! We will come and collect you by car if you get stuck!
  • The locAtion the house the host are just great and perfect. Mary is giving an extra soul to the stay and her knowledge of the area and her love for it helped to make the most of the stay. She is also always ready to help.

    Olivier2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding! We stayed with the amazing Mary for three nights. Every morning she created an incredible breakfast; we had never witnessed someone perform such wonders with eggs and smashed avocado. She had walking recommendations fit for true explorers, covering every terrain, river wanders, hill hikes, ancient forest ambles and bog trots, and always ending up at a delicious and well earned eatery. If your a fan of Hound of the Baskavilles you will be pleased to find that this part of the moor is the setting for much of the book. The bubbling hot tub was free to use whenever we wanted and it was blissful melting in it watching the stars and bats overhead after a day walking through the bubbling mire. The house itself is gorgeous with lots of space and rich with classic Dartmoor character, and you couldn’t be better placed, right in the heart of the moor surrounded by nature. It’s a truly magical setting with views stretching out for miles, rivers gushing past the bottom of the drive, and wild ponies hopping over the bracken and acid green moss. We’d love to come back!

    Josh2019-10-19T00:00:00Z

  • Where do we start?! Awesome location in the heart of Dartmoor, a fantastic welcome by Wilf (thanks for the cake!), a beautiful and remote setting (although not impossible to get to by any means), comfortable and cosy rooms with quality bed linen and amenities within the room. To top it off, a hot tub outside, the friendliest dog you'll ever meet and hosts that make you feel completely at home so that you'll never want to leave. Thank you again Mary, Wilf and Twiglet!! We'll see you again soon!

    Matt2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We visited Mary for our 5 year anniversary and had a wonderful stay. The drive in to this beautiful air bnb was breath taking. The bed was super comfy and we were made to feel instantly at home. It was really quiet with no one around and the hot tub was the perfect end to a busy day. Thanks for having us - we will definitely be back. Xx

    Holly2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Wydemeet is the perfect place to experience the beauty of Dartmoor. The house, which is tastefully decorated to offer both luxury and homeliness, is an ideal starting point for exploring the tranquil peacefulness that the natural moorlands, tumbling rivers and bird-filled woodlands afford. The host, Mary, has thought of every possible touch required to ensure a really comfortable stay. Nothing seems too much trouble and you are secured a very friendly and warm welcome. We had a very happy and memorable stay when we visited at the end of May and hope others will experience the same.

My place is a few minutes walk away from Ashburton Cookery School. My place is peaceful and well placed, being on the edge of Dartmoor and halfway between the two major cities of Exeter and Plymouth with the coast not too far away. Great for Cookery School Students, Solo Adventurers and Business Travellers.
My neighbourhood is peaceful and within easy reach of the town centre, bus routes and only a few minutes walk from Ashburton Cookery School.
  • Sheila's home is lovely and I couldn't have asked for a better host! I stayed just over three months while doing a patisserie course at Ashburton Chefs Academy and Sheila made me feel welcome, at home and looked after. I had everything I needed in my room and Sheila went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable while also giving me my privacy. I could use the kitchen as often as I wanted and I could always rely on Sheila to provide honest feedback when I brought back pastries from the course ;-) The location was perfect for me as it was just a few minutes' walk to the school, as well as the town centre and bus stops. The double room is light, spacious and has plenty of storage. The bed is very comfortable.

  • Great place - highly recommendable! Very clean and tidy private room with TV, desk, chair and double bed. Sheila has been a great host - very welcoming, friendly and open-minded. No problem to check-out a bit later on the day of departure.

  • A pleasant room conveniently situated on the north side of Ashburton, very easy to get to from the Devon Expressway and to walk to shops. Sheila is a lovely woman with a gentle, friendly manner. She is very easy-going and allowed me (and another guest) to make full use of the kitchen for heating up food, making tea or coffee -- and even cooking a full meal if desired. I felt very comfortable in Sheila's home and with Sheila herself.

    Mara2018-08-21T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely and quiet place to stay, I visited for 1 night in November ........... very comfy bed, nice breakfast and great surrounding area.

    Sarah2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really cosy garden chalet. Easy access to Ashburton and the A38 and for walks. Lots of nice breakfast bits were provided which was much appreciated

  • Katie’s place was lovely and very comfortable. Everything was clean. Katie is very nice and really a great host! She even came to pick us up at the bus station when is was pouring rain! If I ever come back I would love to stay again at her place.

    Eva2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • DEFINITELY take the option of eating at/with Katie, you will not get better food ANYWHERE! Four superb curries, rice and pickles, curries all home-made and deLICious! She is friendly and kind and curious, too, up for new things, so she was really open to seeing the musician that we'd come down to see, so we all ate together, then trolled off down to what was the old church and she told us how it came to pass that it's now the town's entertainment centre. The room is lovely, cosy, full of curios and has an electronic blanket to keep you cosy at night, as well as a fridge (do try the Devon milk!), breakfast things and a kettle for the all-important cuppa. The wet-room across the garden has underfloor heating and is spotlessly clean. I thoroughly recommend Katie and her stay.

    Rooth2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We love the cabin in the garden! The wet room (Shower and toilet) is only a few feet away. Very nice and clean. Katie is a lovely host. Will visit again.

A peaceful, secluded, light and bright cabin, next to the river Ash a mile outside of Ashburton. The cabin is simply furnished, with futon, sofa, woodburner, tea and coffee making facilities, and organic breakfast. It is in our 1 acre garden, and has its own garden space, with outside table, chairs and fire bowl. There is a compost toilet close by and a shared shower room in the main house. There is no running water in the cabin, but there is a crock dispensing pure Dartmoor water for you.
The cabin is situated in our 1 acre garden, next to the river and nestled between woods in the Valley. You can be lulled to sleep with the sounds of the river and the owls that frequent the valley, and be woken by the birdsong that resonates through the woodland. The cabin is simple, but beautifully peaceful, tranquil, and the setting is idyllic. In the cabin, you will find a comfy king size futon bed, a sofa, a woodburner, an area for making drinks, simple suppers and breakfasts, and hooks to hang clothes. There is a kettle, a four-slice toaster and a small fridge, cutlery, crockery and glasses, fresh coffee, herbal and non-herbal teas and breakfast jars of home-made muesli and porridge oats. There is a single, portable induction hob on which you can cook simple food or, should you prefer, you can cook on the wood burning stove. There can be plant milk left in the fridge on your arrival, should you like. There can also be a warming and nourishing simple supper of home made soup and bread left for your arrival, or on any evening during your stay (this will need to be booked at least 24 hours in advance, for £5 per person). All food provided is organic and vegan. All bedding is supplied, along with towels and soap and there is an electric heater, blankets and a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy. During the cooler months, you may wish to bring warm socks and/or slippers too. The cabin is simply furnished, with reclaimed, reused and recycled objects and furniture. There is internet access via ethernet cable in the cabin but perhaps you would rather immerse yourself in nature... There is a compost loo close to the cabin or you may use the toilet, shower room and bathroom up at the main house.
Ashburton sits at the edge of, and within, Dartmoor National park and is a beautiful Devon town, renowned for its antiques and its good food. The cabin is a mile out of Ashburton town, an easy walk along the river. Dartmoor is walkable distance (uphill) or a five minute drive away. There are many good places to eat in Ashburton: a fabulous deli; artisan bakery; a wonderful farm shop selling organic produce and a healthfood shop. Riverford Farm Shop and Field Kitchen are a short drive away. We have an outdoor community swimming pool (heated) which is open until the beginning of September and we are close to many lovely wild swimming spots. The Ashburton Cookery School is a short drive away. The cabin's position makes it the perfect location for Moor walking, kayaking and canoeing, pony trekking and cycling. We are half an hour's drive from Exeter, Plymouth and the beautiful Devon coast. Totnes is approximately 7 miles away, Widecombe is a 20 minute drive and Hay Tor just 15 minutes away. The South Devon Railway is close by with its steam engines and vintage vehicles, and the Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm too. We are perfectly placed for exploring the Dart Valley and the Devon coastline.
  • Tina has a magical spot for beautiful and calming trips away from the busy world. The cabin is super clean and eco which made us feel safe and cozy as well as at one with nature. We will definitely find time for another trip soon.

  • There is nowhere I would rather stay for a short escape in Devon. A fabulous cabin with everything you could need. It was peaceful, minimalist and comfy. It really was perfect, so much more than I expected. The cabin is walking distance from town and more importantly, walking distance from the wilds of Devon! My hosts were quick to respond and gave me all the space and privacy I desired without feeling distant. The were extremely thoughtful and have created a glorious, thoughtful and comfortable space. X

  • A beautiful cabin in a beautiful location

    Dylan2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We felt immediately at ease when we met Tina, and the cabin exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect escape from the city and we had everything we needed to make our stay completely comfortable. It felt like a home away from home and we didn't want to leave! The location is great too, plenty of nice walks and river swims nearby. All in all, I couldn't recommend this place enough! Thank you Tina!!

    Martha2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The lovely secluded situation in this peaceful valley right next to the river is a calm and comfortable retreat. Tina has set it up beautifully with lots of nice vintage touches and local books. The bread, flowers and selection of teas were very much appreciated. The location on the edge of Dartmoor is fantastic, and Ashburton perfect for shopping for local picnic items. We would highly recommend a meal at Riverford Organic Kitchen.

Within the heart of the Dartmoor national park, there are amazing moorland walks directly from the cabin as well as 2 local pubs within waling distance. The cabin has 1 bedroom with a double and 2 single beds. There is a fully functioning kitchen and dining/living room with a log burner. There is a double sofa bed within the living area. Private toilet and shower. Garden with table, fire and BBQ. Ideal for families or groups of friends. Logs can be ordered on request . Nearest town is 3 miles.
  • Huck's cabin is located in a beautiful wooded River valley near the working farm, and is well-situated for days out on Dartmoor with locations like Chagford, Postbridge and Two Bridges only short drive away, as well as the beautiful Buckfast Abbey which is only 10 minutes away by car. We went in winter and it was quite cold, so we recommend bringing plenty of layers and plenty of logs for the wood burner to get cosy! It's a great hideaway from hectic modern life and a chance to remove yourself from an over-reliance on technology (there's no TV and patchy phone signal!)

    Thomas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in the cabin. Fairly basic, but had all the essentials we needed. Great use of space (plenty room for three single adults). Log burner took a while to warm the place up, but then it was nice and cosy. Lovely to be so immersed in nature.

    Matt2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great time in Huck’s cabin. Didn’t manage to get the fire going as didn’t have any kindling and the wood was a bit damp but we were still warm nonetheless. We met a nice pheasant called Hank who had morning coffee with us and let us stroke him. Nice one Hank. Will definitely come back but in the summer so we can make the most of the beautiful surroundings. Thanks!

    Joanne2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little cabin in beautiful spot. Basic but well stocked. Log burner great for cold days. Being tea towels and towels. Thanks for a lovely stay.

    Jill2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and cozy cabin. Wood burner the star for rainy days. Great location for exploring Dartmoor.

    Shaun2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gave me and my friends just what we wanted and great benefit having a garden area with bbq/fire pit. Great for a weekend with friends. Close to nice walks etc

    Mounsey862019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time in the cabin. The listing on here doesn’t do the place justice! The location is beautiful (especially the stream at the bottom), it was so peaceful and well tended to. We packed everything you would normally expect to have to take to go camping however we needn’t have worried as pretty much everything is provided! I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

    Gemma2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Really cosy, tucked away from busy roads and very family friendly. You can use both the barbeque and gas stove for cooking. Many thanks to a previous guest for the tip on getting the shower working, make sure you turn the hot tap on and off whilst the shower is on to get it working! We really enjoyed our stay, the cabin is ideal for couples or families :)

  • If you are looking for a welcoming place to stay with gorgeous views and minutes from the moors this is perfect. We stayed during storm ciara and it was perfect! We have stayed at many different self catering places and we have never had such a well appointed property, little touches like cooking oil and milk make self catering so much easier. Plus having a washer dryer is a big bonus when you are walking the moors in a storm! Our dogs were welcomed too with a cute basket of towels etc and treats!! We enjoyed visiting the local pub and the local community shop is just great. We look forward to going back

    Vanessa2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely spot with magnificent views and an amazing garden. The thoughtful touches made for a hone away from home stay and our dog was made to feel he was as welcome as we were! Alex met us on arrival and had lots of helpful suggestions for places to eat and things to do. Thoughtful touches such as the security gate remote made coming and going easy on the dark autumn nights coming back from the pub. Highly recommended 👍🙂

  • Samantha and her family we so welcoming, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Walkers Retreat is set alongside their home in amazing grounds on the edge of Dartmoor with easy access to all areas. The accommodation has everything you could possibly need, we visited with our 7 month old son and wanted for nothing. I highly recommend Walkers Retreat to anybody visiting Dartmoor.

A quite and peaceful rural location with stunning views, on the outskirts of Ashburton only 15mins walk into the town centre. I am a dog friendly B&B and can provide guided walks along magical river valleys and across the moors. I run a dog boarding and walking business so guests do need to be comfortable with dogs as sometimes there are up to 2 dogs including my own
A good sized Double bedroom, with a sink. A single bedroom over looking the back garden. there is a dinning room with tea making facilities, a toaster and microwave so you are free to help yourselves to breakfast.
Holne Cross is on the outskirts of town in the countryside, close to the moor, and close enough to town for easy access to all the amenities. there are fabulous views with fields out the front. There are four pubs in town that do good pub grub, two restaurants, three tea shops and cafes. Its a hub for antiques, has a renowned cookery school that runs some great day and weekend courses and has several open studio venues in september.
  • Lovely cosy place. Katie is a great host and makes a great cup of tea. Her house is homely and comfy. The views are amazing. Would highly recommend.

  • Katie was a great host and the room was clean and comfortable, and the welcome very warm after a wet day of walking. Katie generously drove us into town, was friendly and interesting, and kindly sent on my phone which I left at the property. We had a good breakfast and happily walked on! Thanks very much, warmly recommend this place and Katie.

The Annex was warm, clean and cosy with a comfortable bed and bedding, stylish artwork and decor Many kitchen basics were provided including tea, coffee, bread, butter and milk. There’s also a pamphlet you’ll find on arrival with great local tips and detailed house instructions. I found my stay at the Annex to be great value and would definitely recommend this place! Hope to stay again next time I’m down in the west country! :-)

Anna and Anthony are super welcoming and have great tips for whatever you’re after! Hope Cove and Haytor were great, so is the pub down the road or the Church House Inn. We came in January and were lucky with the weather but will definitively return in the summer!

A clean modern house with two comfortable guests' bedrooms, contemporary private bathroom with bath and shower attachment; towels are provided. Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities in both bedrooms. Please note: The hosts sleep on the top floor of this townhouse. Buckfastleigh lies on the Southern edge of Dartmoor. Our house is near the A38 (Devon Expressway) which serves both Plymouth and Exeter (30 mins each way by car). See map. We have a cat, she is not allowed in the bedrooms.
The two letting rooms and guest bathroom take up the whole of the middle floor of our townhouse and are not let out separately to unconnected people. We sleep on the top floor. Besides the main king sized bedroom we also have a twin bedroom available with two full size single beds, which is very suitable for 2 children or two adults. We could put in a camp bed in that room for a third child if required. Should you wish to make use of it just add extra people when booking. The twin room is at the back of the house and with the window open, some road noise can be heard. Please be aware of this before you book this room. Our windows are double glazed and if closed this is barely audible. We supply a fan for our guests' comfort in the summer. It is naturally a fairly cool room. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in both bedrooms. Towels provided. A hairdryer can be provided on request. The cold water from the bathroom taps is drinkable. NB If two guests would like a room each then please book for 3 people. Otherwise it will either be the Kingsize OR the twin room.
Buckfastleigh was a bustling woollen town until the middle of the 20th century. In Fore Street there are still a few small shops, a general store - Huccabys which includes the Post Office, and a Co-op amongst others. It is very quaint with some lovely little nooks and crannies and churches of most denominations. There are 3 pubs - The Kings Arms, The Globe (serves food daytime and in the evening 6pm until 8pm Mon - Thurs, 6pm until 9pm Fri and Sat) and The White Hart, within a short walk from our house, together with an eat in/takeaway fish and chip shop, a Chinese and an Asian takeaway. There are two cafes serving snacks etc during the day. A short walk away at the start of Fore Street there is a pub called The Valiant Soldier which closed its doors in 1965 and today remains exactly as it was then. It is now a museum and well worth a visit. Open from April - October. A heated, open air swimming open from May to September. Many eating places out and about for wonderful local dishes, fish and cream teas. Buckfastleigh is in a beautiful part of Devon. Within 30 min drive to the nearest beach. A mixture of ages live in Buckfastleigh who all give you a ready smile when you meet them walking along the road. There are pubs/restaurants serving food a short drive away. Dartmoor Lodge and Abbey Inn to mention two. Nearby is the South Devon Steam Railway which runs from Buckfastleigh to Totnes alongside the picturesque River Dart. Buckfast Abbey. Well worth a visit with beautiful grounds and gardens and a lovely restaurant. We are very close to Dartmoor with the ponies, sheep and cattle wandering around freely. Ideal for walking. The little village of Widecombe on the Moor is not to be missed. Places very close to us are Dartmoor, Plymouth, Exeter, Totnes (nearest station 15mins by car), Newton Abbot, the beaches and towns/villages in the South Hams (Salcombe, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge). English Riviera - Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Teignmouth and Dawlish. Facilities nearby for children include Pennywell Farm, Dart Country Park, Woodlands. All great fun outdoor experiences. Round the corner there is Dart Rock which has climbing walls for all ages

Fox Tor is situated in beautiful Dartmeet, just a stones throw from the river Dart, which can be seen from the master bedroom. This is a perfect spot for walking & exploring Dartmoor. We have resident Peacocks, goats, rabbits and just outside the gate you can often find Dartmoor ponies aplenty. Next door is a great little Tea Rooms offering breakfasts, light lunches and Devon Cream Teas.
It is very quiet and very dark of an evening. Amazing star gazing on a clear night.
  • The photos really don't do the setting justice, so go and check it out for yourself - you won't be disappointed. Going to sleep listening to the River was wonderful and the moor is literally through the gate. The apartment was super clean, the bed is very comfy and the towels are fluffy and huge. Make sure you don't miss the cream tea - enjoy!

Cliff also has an awesome little pottery making facility! For the budding artists out there - a great place to go get your hands dirty! :) Looking forward to coming back!

  • Absolutely lovely cottage in a stunning location. A very grown up and comfortable place to stay right on the edge of the Moors. Angela's communication is spot on and she is very welcoming and friendly. The cottage is very private and relaxing with a lovely log burner and comfortable sofa and bed.

  • We came here the same day I arrived from Australia, and this was just the peace and tranquility needed to rest off the jet lag. Winding through the narrow lanes and hedgerows, you will find a lovely, quaint cottage on a lush property with amazing views of the moor. Immaculately clean and tidy space, cosy and with nice touches, everything you could need for a comfortable stay. It was lovely meeting Angela, she had the fire built for us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. We explored some of the charming towns, had a stroll by the river just down the road, and enjoyed a movie with the cosy fire crackling away. We’d love to come back again!

    Ben2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to get away from it all you couldn't do much better than Angela's place

    Leslie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Would definitely recommend this cottage, a charming space located in a beautiful location with easy accessibility to both moors and beaches.

    Fenella2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is perfectly set up for a peaceful and relaxing break. The narrow country lanes are an experience to navigate (especially for a Londoner!) but it’s such a beautiful area to explore, especially with a dog. The cottage is well equipped and lovely and cosy. Angela was a fantastic host with great communication in the lead up and available if we needed anything. Thank you for a wonderful stay :)

The location is superb for any type of holiday and break in South Devon. I can only highly recommend other guests to enjoy it ! I definitely want to and will come back.

  • The place is great. very spacious, very clean. the location is great if you want somewhere quiet and you like walking. We had great few days.

    Priscille2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean & modern space set in the Dartmoor countryside. Great location for walking or a quiet getaway. Serena & Jez were wonderful hosts. Our daughter loved hand feeding the chickens and petting a sheep! We would definitely return!

    Kim2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Serena’s place is a real gem, a completely unexpected flash of modern minimalism in the rural heart of Dartmoor. Check in was exceptionally easy, with great communication. The lodge was spotlessly clean and welcomingly warm on arrival. The lodge is well kept and stylishly decorated, and was certainly very comfortable. The large open plan living space was perfect for unwinding after a long day walking on the moors, and the soft beds and silent surroundings resulted in a perfect night’s sleep. I wouldn’t hesitate to head back to the lodge, we had a wonderful time!

    Ross2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts, very accommodating and even drove out to help us when storm Denis gave us a bit of grief. Very spacious yet cosy pad with everything you need to make yourself at home. Private too and most importantly to us, very quiet. Definitely recommended if you want to escape it all and explore some of what the Moors have to offer.

    Richard2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • I want to tell you how stunning and lovely our stay was, but then you would all book it and I'd rather it stayed a secret 😂 so I won't. It's perfect. Great beds, lovely location. All mod cons, including hairdryers, washing machine and dryer, TV, WiFi. Definitely my favourite Airbnb stay!

    Bonnie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely find in the middle of the moors. Arrival was seamless and easy, the house was warm and cozy. Lots of nice touches that made it lovely. The hosts have really thought the place out well - cots, drying racks, simple kitchen bits and bobs, maps of the area and clear instructions. Real luxury on a wet, cold paddling weekend.
