Coastal cool for two. Our little one bedroom beach house is 100 steps to the water. Its sunny north wall ( that's right..wall ) slides open to bring the outside in. There are decks, a sea view and the sound of the waves. Village a ten minute stroll.
We have always loved little beach houses, so we decided to build one. Of course, it is obligatory for a beach house to have a beach.....ours is opposite. You will find comfortable accommodation for one or two people in our new, open plan, little house. We like that the architect included a sliding wall that can open the living area to the outside deck on sunny days. We also like that we can batten down the hatches in winter and turn on the log fire. The bedroom has its own little deck too, just because..... There is plenty of cooking equipment. Yes, wine glasses, coffee and teas included. All linen is provided.
Apollo Bay sits at the foot of the Otway Ranges, by the Southern Ocean. It is a sea change kind of place with real live locals. Find them fishing, playing golf or footy, walking in the national parks, surfing, swimming, and at the Saturday market.
  • Rex’s little beach house is just perfect— Walking distance to town, listen to the waves from bed, sunny balcony and grassy area with ocean views, lots of natural light, a nice fireplace and well equipped kitchen, comfy linens and great quality appliances. All in all, perfect place for 2 in Apollo Bay. Would recommend and will be back!

  • This place was one of the best AirBNBs we’ve stayed at. We felt right at home the second we arrived. Amazing location, amazing kitchen, super cosy couch after a day of hiking or beaching. My wife and I enjoyed playing a few card games by the fire, enjoyed a bottle of wine or two, and loved the cozy couch and sounds of the waves crashing along the shore as we sleep. I would highly recommend this place.

  • Friendly host with good local knowledge. Very clean, cleanest bathroom of any airbnb I've stayed in. Good shower pressure. Both beds comfortable. Water from the tap tasted better than Melbourne water. Had everything we needed, amenities well thought out. Great location with parrots visiting on the deck and koalas close by. 3 mins from the main street of Apollo Bay and yet so peaceful.

  • Amazing little getaway spot. The heated floors and kitchen were awesome! The location is 10/10, being so close to the shops and Main Street. A bit disappointed of the Ocean View as it isn’t as close or clear as in the photos. We also didn’t know if was nextdoor to 2 other getaway places.

  • What a fantastic beach hut. We were unfortunately moved from our previously booked accommodation due to a burst hot water system and Lisa suggested we stay in the Beach Hut. We were extremely pleased with this accommodation. A very comfortable stay and everything you needed was provided.

WELCOME to a little piece of paradise. On an organic farm, bordering Cape Otway National Park, surrounded by trees, koalas, birds and other wildlife, is a unique, beautifully designed, eco-friendly "tiny-home", built from a shipping-container, and up-cycled building materials. It features a green-house bathroom with a hot tub surrounded by lush ferns and tropical flowers. Relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. And explore the world famous attractions of the Great Ocean Road.
The Welcome-Swallow Hideaway, is situated on an acre of an organic farm, on the edge of the eucalypt and myrtle forest of the national park . The quiet and serenity, the beautiful views, the comfortable cosy living space and the abundance wildlife make it an excellent place to stay, and as a base to explore The Great Ocean Road, or holiday with family or friends, or to simply just escape the city and slow down. A family of Koalas live in the trees of the national park, right next to the house. We also regularly see kangaroos, wallabies, possums, echidnas and many native birds. There are hiking trails just behind the cabin. From every window in the cabin you can look out into the eucalypt forest, or out across the rolling green hills. The sunny north-facing deck provides stunning views over the Aire valley. Here on the edge of the wilderness, the air is so alive and fresh, that simply breathing feels like an act of self-care. You will feel a sense of calm, of being hugged by nature. The cabin is designed from a shipping-container, which now serves as the bedroom, extended with recovered and new building materials, to produce a light-filled kitchen/dining /lounge area, and an amazing bathroom greenhouse. The beds are comfortable and warm. The pot-belly fireplace heats up the home beautifully. The bathroom greenhouse is a living sanctuary of lush ferns, vines, flowers, terrariums, and pot plants. There is nothing better than a hot candle-lit bath or shower, amongst the greenery, looking up through the windows at the moon or starlit sky. The large hot-tub comfortably fits 2 (and can fit up to 4 adults), so make a night of it, and pamper yourself. We even have a towel warmer! The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet cooking and baking, for those who like to get creative in the kitchen. Espresso coffee maker and fresh ground coffee are provided, as well as milk, tea, sugar, cooking oil and some fresh herbs and medicinal teas from our herb garden. Appliances include refrigerator with freezer, gas stovetop, oven and grill, a rice-cooker, toaster, kettle and blender. We have all the kitchen utensils and baking dishes you are likely to need. The home is designed to support the ecological values of our organic farm, and the pristine environment of the Otways. Choosing to stay in our eco-friendly accommodation allows you to enjoy a beautiful relaxing holiday while leaving no impact on the natural environment you have come here to enjoy. The Welcome Swallow Hideaway has been a special project for my daughter and I. It is ecologically-friendly, comfortable and stylish, and now we want to share it with you. We named the cabin after a pair of Welcome-Swallows who made a mud-nest on the front porch during the summer, raising a family of 4 baby swallows. Their presence made us feel welcomed. We hope our guest will experience this same sense of welcome. It is a very special place.
The location for tourists is ideal. A perfect base for exploring the Otways. We are 20 minutes drive from Apollo Bay with shops restaurants, a harbour and safe swimming beach. We are 90 minutes drive from the Twelve Apostles and historic Port Campbell, 30 minutes from Blanket Bay and the Cape Otway lighthouse, and right on the doorstep of some of the worlds most beautiful ancient temperate rainforests, waterfalls, glow-worm forest, hiking trails and world famous coastlines. We are within walking distance for those of you walking The Great Ocean Walk (60 minutes walk from Aire River), if you want to escape the cold weather and soak your tired legs in our hot-tub
  • This home and it's location is absolutely magical. If you love being immersed in nature but still want homely comfort, book this place! We cooked food over the outdoor fireplace whilst drinking wine, reading books and taking in the incredible view of the stars (hardly any light pollution out there). We'd get up in the morning and eat our breakfast on the front porch while we watched the koalas and kookaburras in the trees next to the house and were completely awestruck by the beauty of the land, especially when the sun was out. And that bath room is the bath room of my dreams! So lush. We were having such a good time there that we ended up extending our stay for another 4 nights. We can't wait to return to what felt like our second home. We had some issues with checking in but that was because airbnb automatically sent us the wrong check in info (the check in details were for another one of the hosts properties) but that was hardly a problem. Thank you Murray and family for making such a beautiful place for people to come and reconnect with nature and being such wonderful hosts.

    Cassandra2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days in this quirky and cosy cabin in a quiet, secluded spot. Loved sitting outside watching the koalas in the trees!

  • You will really be so happy if you chose to stay here, amazing location is secluded enough to feel like theres no other human for miles. Everything is there to make you feel comfortable. Grab a bag of firewood on the way if its cold tho, its the only heating. Seriously loved this place.

  • A beautiful secluded getaway and pet friendly too! Some great roads to run if you’re a runner, otherwise just relax and unwind. Such a special place to wake up to kookaburras, trees, and wallabies! Make sure to bring your own fire wood and drinking water. Super comfy bed and such a peaceful place to stay.

    Sarah2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing 3 nights here! A beautiful cabin tucked amongst the trees! The place was very clean and comfy. The only thing we would critique is there should be firewood included as this is the only source of heating for the cabin. Don’t forget to stop off at Apollo Bay for your essentials(fuel, food, firewood)before you arrive as it’s 35 mins from anything. Other than that we absolutely loved the place.. definitely going back! Guests have two kayaks to explore the waterways, go fishing or bird watching. There is an extensive DVD library for movie lovers. All linen, towels and bath robes are provided. Every effort has been made to minimize the impact on the local environment. No harsh soaps or cleaning products. There is an odour free composting toilet located in an out building. (it sounds yucky but I promise you it isn’t). Sorry the cabin is not safe or suitable for young children. Dogs may be permitted at Aire River. Please contact the host BEFORE booking. This is a farming property and there is wildlife and koalas.
This location is very private. Your neighbors are the cows, sheep and the native wild life. Maybe the rare fisherman walking up the river or the farmer checking on the cattle. There are no local shops so make sure you arrive with everything you need for your stay. Apollo Bay is 27klm down the road and is the best place to replenish stocks.
  • The best Air BnB I've ever stayed at. Peaceful, relaxing, rejuvenating and good for the soul. We had Kookaburras laughing in the morning, and clear starry skies to enjoy at night. Wish we could bottle that fresh country air and take it home with us

    Andrew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Just a great place in a secluded spot on an amazing piece of land. Having kayaks, sauna and spa made the stay the most relaxing we’ve had. Being allowed to have our dog with us made the stay even better.

    Mark2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was incredible. It doesn't get more picturesque than this - cows wandering around the paddocks along the river, forest covering the mountains around us, and the aire river running right past the house! We had an amazing time full of saunas, spa baths, kayaking, cooking in the well equipped kitchen and lounging around in robes on the very comfortable bed + couch. The house was full of little touches that made it feel welcoming and luxurious. Thank you!

    Ruby2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely take the kayaks up the river to the rapids and keep a look out for the many koalas! Lovely place to unwind :-)

    Gemma2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for our honeymoon. The nature was breathtaking, saw lots of healthy koalas, loved kayaking up to the rapids, and finishing each day with a drink with the sheep and cattle. Thank you Lisa, we might have to come back for our 1 year anniversary! Jack and Sarah

    Jack2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is such a stunning place to spend some time unwinding. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend some time enjoying the sounds and sights of wildlife as well as a beautiful outdoor spa bath and sauna.

I can only recommend enjoying the amazing dinner while you are here. For breakfast we had the pancakes and the omelet and both was yummy! Would definitely come back again!

  • Not only do they make you dinner if you request it, it's just the best food! Seriously! The best meal we had in our 3 weeks in AUS and we eat at some 4* hotels...

    Georgina2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jodie and Shane’s place is like staying with one of your favourite. The place is beautiful, it is homely with a lot of thoughtful touches and the dinner and breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in a while. We will definitely be back!

  • This place is simply amazing. We had such a great time there and every single detail counted for our experience. From the awesome room very nicely decorated and sparkling clean, the region that is near wild beaches and mountain view and of course, hospitality from Shane that made everything possible being so careful and offering absolutely gorgeous dinner and breakfast experience. Will highly recommend to anyone doing the Great Ocean Road. We felt in love with everything there and carry great memories.

Please note this is an adults only retreat. With regard to pets: Please see additional note below.
The top House is set snugly into the hill surrounded by lovely big gums. This offers protection from the wind without impeding the fabulous ocean, forest & valley views. It is a warm, inviting, totally bespoke home from which to explore all that this marvellous area has to offer. If you enjoy walking, explore our private rainforest trail right on your doorstep. Or venture further to the Great Ocean walk, the Aire River, the waterfalls or Castle Cove & Johanna Beaches. For “foodies” the region boasts locally made wine, chocolate, cheese, beers, cordials plus the clever chefs to plate them up for you! Or, you can bring all of your provisions & indulge in front of the open fire watching “Nature’s TV” out the window
  • Amazing place for a quiet weekend away

    Kierin2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely breathtaking. Clearest of skies, shooting stars, amazing views all seen from the deck spa!! The house is filled with character and nostalgia with a beautiful charm in every corner. Great log fire and the comfiest of beds made this a romantic and memorable trip. Such a welcoming, relaxed home as soon as walk in. Can’t wait to get back!!

    Danielle2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Top Hill was an amazing cottage that allowed us to wind down and disconnect from our busy city lives. The house was cosy, had an amazing view, and there were heaters everywhere around the house, so we were never cold. There was also a fireplace, which was lovely, and there was plenty of firewood for us to use. My partner and I stayed here for Valentine's Day weekend and this is a very romantic choice. We also brought our Samoyed along with us, and the cottage was well accommodated for him. Water was left out for him on arrival, there was poop scoops and poop bags available for us to use, and Bo provided us with towels and covers so that his fur didn't get everywhere. He was allowed to chill with us inside, just as he would at home. Overall, a very lovely stay and we would definitely recommend it to those who want some secluded time with their significant other, without being too overly distracted by the internet!

    Tomie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Picturesque and even better than the photos, the view & outdoor spa was incredible. The enclosed grass area for our dog was perfectly secure and practical - we felt safe enough to leave her there while we were in the house, and she had enough room to run up and down for 'zoomies'. There is a private walking track on the extended property which is beautiful, taking you through fern forests, the usual forests and farmland with rolling hills & sweeping views. Dogs are allowed on the track as it is private property under Top House. The location is perfect for Johanna Beach, the ONLY "dog friendly" (strict lease at all times) beach/space in ALL OF THE OTWAYS (this made travel difficult at times), just 12 minutes down the road. The sounds of birds and the distant ocean filled the air during our stay, with no road traffic or people for that matter to be heard ever. In terms of accessing The Otways sights, it's a great spot for navigating through to Cape Otway Lightstation, Otway Fly Treetop Adventure and the Twelve Apostles. The Otways itself is huge, with sights spread out very far, but we felt Glenaire & Top House was the perfect position for being centred to these sights. We shopped at Foodworks in Apollo Bay (35 minutes away) and cooked for our 3 nights - Lavers Hill just 10 minutes up the road appeared to have a small tuck shop of sorts, but there are definitely no established restaurants or eateries nearby. This was part of the charm staying in a rural coastal property. The only thing to note was that Telstra was the only provider with reception and 4G/data service (as advertised in the Airbnb listing), but we were provided with a WiFi voucher for a single device of 1GB for our 3 nights stay. Thank you to Bo and Trudie (interim caretaker) for our stay!

    Aaron2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Good location for a romantic weekend away. Nice view from the prooert. Really enjoyed the spa. Accessible to many great Ocean road attractions

    Anton2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Aboslutely loved our stay at the Top House at Glenaire Cottages. The hosts were both amazing. We were made to feel so accommodated. The views were just phenomenal, the birds and wildlife were beautiful to look at and to listen to. It's a shame it was too hot to use the fireplace so we will be going back to do that in winter. Just perfect! Thank you Bo and Neil for your wonderful hospitality and the lovely chats xx

    Manuela2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend. The property is secluded and the surrounds are beautiful. It's also in a great spot for exploring the Otways and nearby attractions. The property was clean, large and exactly as described. I would happily return and stay again. Bo was a great host and greeted us with a friendly phone call in the morning of our check-in. She gave us some tips on places to visit and made clear that she was available if we needed anything during our stay.

  • Amazing location for a quiet getaway- beautiful spot in the middle of nature. They had a stunning cottage well equipped to cook, plenty of fresh drinking water, a bbq and fresh eggs from the chook shed. Short walk to the beach and we had a great stay being in a quiet corner of Victoria.

  • A fabulous holiday with an amazing bush walk. Thanks for sharing your beautiful property.

    Simone2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy cottage in a breathtaking location. The beach is visible from the front porch and the view of the sun setting over the hills is incredible. The host sets out everything you could possibly need for your stay including fresh eggs, towels, a fireplace, a dog blanket, a barbeque and a map of the surrounding area. There was also a wifi password on the fridge but we didn't try it so I'm not sure if it costs extra. Our stay was far beyond expectations and we'll return sometime soon.

    James2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing farm, we all had a fantastic holiday, surf was great for the adults and the pool was wonderful for the kids. Every thing you could want in the veggie garden, plus fresh apples, lemons and delicious fresh eggs. Spectacular scenic walks around the cliffs.

Long Tide retreat is a beautiful property, set amongst the trees with breathtaking ocean and forest views. Natural beauty and vast expanse merges with an earthy and tranquil barn style guest house. A truly magical space to rest and retreat from the world.
We are the last property at the end of the street, making for an incredibly tranquil setting. Our stunning property sits at the very end of a 1.5km dirt road, with breathtaking ocean views at the end of our quiet street. We are a gorgeous 10 minutes drive to Skenes Creek Beach, 15 minutes drive to Apollo Bay township & beaches, 60 minutes from Lorne and 25 minutes from the super cute inland town of Forrest. Our property exists within a generous opening amongst the surrounding forest. Our house and the guest house sit separately, 50 or so metres apart, giving you your very own space, but we are here (or not too far away!) if you need us. We are very happy to give you complete privacy and we are also available should you need anything as we live “next door”. The guest house is a unique 2 story + mezzanine barn style house, crafted naturally out of local and recycled timber. It has great energy with a wonderful, cozy, rustic feel. No traffic noise, no other houses nearby, just ours. The accommodation itself is natural, earthy, warm and very comfortable. The building was built chemical free and is so unique with its natural and recycled timbers and textures. The guest house comes with a very spacious living area complete with a luxurious fire place, air conditioning/heating split system; giving you comfortable temperature control no matter what the Otway forest delivers weather wise. The living area upstairs has two comfy couches to spread out on, a big arm chair and a cozy papasan chair in the reading nook. THERE IS NO GUEST WIFI AT LONG TIDE RETREAT as where we live is difficult and unreliable to service with a WIFI connection... but have no fear! We've made up for the lack of WIFI with other fabulous things.... We have heaps of books, magazines, a cupboard full of board games, drawing supplies and puzzles. There is a TV with regular regional TV channels and a blueray DVD player for any movies you may want to watch (current count is 150+ of our favourites on DVD). You can also bring a hard drive to plug into the DVD player to watch your own movies. There's also a Sony portable Bluetooth speaker for you to play your favourite music or podcast. You can access the internet with your smart phone or tablet via your own standard mobile data. The fireplace is magnificent when it's cold outside, and we will provide all the fire wood you need to keep you warm and cosy. Firewood and kindling are located in the downstairs carport and you are free to use what you need during your stay. When the storms roll in, there is nothing better than curling up on the couch by the fire with a book and a cup of tea. Please help yourself to kindling and firewood from the carport downstairs when required. For your convenience the split system AC unit provides instant heat at the touch of a button, to keep you warm before you get the fire going. Adjoining the living space we have a quaint, clean and functional kitchen completely set up with everything you need. Kitchen staples including oil, butter, margarine, salt + pepper, cow's milk, soy milk and almond milk, lots of herbs and spices and some non perishable items in the cupboard are available. If it's in the kitchen, you're free to use it. The fridge/freezer, gas oven, gas cook top and microwave are all high quality updated appliances helping to make it easy to stay in and retreat. There's plenty of inside and outside dining space, perfect for exhaling for a short or long stay. We have a BBQ on the deck ready for you to use while soaking up the summer sunshine. BEDROOM 1: is equipped with a king bed, with a large wardrobe space and bright, north facing window out to the garden. BEDROOM 2: has a queen sized bed and is found in the upstairs mezzanine which is accessed via the attic ladder. The roof height is around 170cm at it's peak and pitches down either side, so it's cosy, but be sure to watch your head if you're tall. The roof window comes complete with block out blind, and easily opens right out to catch the breeze. You can also view the sun or moon rise to the east, or open to gaze at that wonderful starry sky on a clear night. Beds are supplied with quality linen and beautiful natural soft goose down doonas. All towels are also supplied, dried in our solar power drier making them soft and fluffy. The downstairs full bathroom is large, bright and luxurious, it blends a beautiful polished concrete floor with the natural textured timber walls and ceiling. It has a large shower complete with an amazing huge waterfall shower head. There is a gorgeous enamel claw foot bath, which can be enjoyed day or night, whilst watching the bird life in the neighbouring forest, or the stars on a clear night. There is a second toilet and sink upstairs also for those middle of the night trips. Stepping out upstairs you will find the spacious viewing deck extending directly outside from the living space. It comes complete with big table, chairs and a BBQ. It's from here you will want to do some koala and bird watching or take in the sounds, smells, and sights of the forest and ocean. In our kitchen we offer complimentary coffee beans ready to grind fresh and a selection of 10 beautiful organic teas. Occasionally we will have eggs to share from our chickens, bring your own just in case! Many native animals live in this space with us. Koalas regularly visit as do wallabies, kangaroos and echidnas. The bird life is phenomenal, and incredible to listen to at first light or dusk, especially when the kookaburras start laughing. Oh, and the owls! You might get a glimpse of our resident Powerful Owl or the Boobook. Our favourite part of day is that dreaminess of sunset, where the sky is often ablaze with intense colours that fill the atmosphere. The elevation expands the horizon in a way that really opens up the sky. On a clear night the sky is truly something you have to witness. With no light pollution, the stars will literally take your breath away. It is a totally different sky to anything you will see in the city or with lights around. If you aren't feeling like heading to the beach, just stay in for a glass of wine on the deck or in front of the fire, or why not do some star gazing out the window from the deep claw foot bath? From the luxury of the pillow top beds to the organic tea and coffee on offer, we have created this space for you to stop and really sink in and relax. Give yourself permission to do nothing! On our side of the fence we have 3 chocolate labradors. Freckles the eldest, Frankie the middle and Phoenix the youngest, who is Frankie's daughter. They are wonderful and love any opportunity to meet people. Phoenix likes to bark when someone arrives to let everyone know someone is here, but she is adorable, friendly and will always respect your space. We have a chicken coop with 11 girls laying eggs most days and a bee hive that helps pollenate our growing fruit tree orchard. Dale runs his Osteopathic clinic by appointment from the downstairs portion of the barn on Tuesday-Friday and some Saturday mornings. Patients will come and go on those days from the separate space underneath the barn. The treatment room is totally separate from the accommodation. If you'd like to chat to Dale about Osteopathy please get in touch.
Skenes Creek North is a semi rural but mostly forest coastal landscape. To give you an example we have about 4 acres of cleared space and the rest is natural bush. Our neighbours are similar, some have a little more cleared space for orchards and grazing animals. We are about 400 metres above sea level. As such we are often above the sea mist in summer, and can also be right in the cloud mist in winter. It's magical. Skenes creek itself is in front of us and is a beautiful picturesque town ship on the edge of Apollo Bay. The town itself is just houses and a beach, with the exception of a caravan park, which sells newpapers, coffee, and milk. The area is pristine national park as part of the Otway Ranges National Park and an endless number of beaches that extend in both directions along the great ocean road. It is a natural paradise and is so fun to explore in either direction, including inland where you will find old growth forest, waterfalls, and some tourist attractions such as the Otway treetop walk and redwood forest. The township of Forrest is a haven for nature lovers, in particular moutain bikers due to its extensive range of trails. It also has a wonderful local brewery, an equally cool general store and is also the home of a boutique chocolate shop.
  • Fantastic hosts with an absolutely amazing property. Will definitely be back!

  • We had such a great weekend at Dale and Jackie's place. It was obviously renovated with love, the hosts were very responsive and we felt very at home. The view and the balcony were worth the trip alone. We'll be back!

  • Long Tide is hands down my favourite place to be down the Great Ocean Road. Beautiful, relaxing and all round pleasant, I’ve been several times and regretted none of them. There’s nothing like making yourself a warm meal in the kitchen and chilling on the porch with a nighttime view of the ocean and all the stars in the sky, surrounded by rustling forest and clean, crisp air. Dale and Jackie are wonderful hosts, and I look to forward to being back at some point in the future.

  • Our long weekend at Long Tide was incredible! 5 stars for everything - absolutely beautiful location, stunning house, very comfy bed, cosy fireplace, lots of info about things to do in the area. Jackie and Dale were super friendly and helpful when we saw them, but the place is also separate and private so we felt like we also had our own space. They also had one of the best tea collections I've seen! Very much hoping to be back one day :)

  • Jackie and Dale provide an amazing space to get away and experience nature in one of the most amazing places in the world. The property was dreamy, and the surrounding nature was stunning. We were lucky enough to watch a storm roll in over the ocean, it was like a scene from a fantasy movie. The cabin itself was so beautiful and cozy. It was filled with thoughtful little touches, such as a large selection of gourmet teas, a fireplace, books, amongst many other things. Jackie and Dale (as well as Freckles, Pheonix and Frankie) were lovely and genuinely made us feel welcome, giving us a tour of the property and offering some great recommendations in regards to local activities and dining. Thank you again for an amazing experience and we cannot wait to visit again.

Slow down, switch off and get back to nature. With ocean views and a tranquil wilderness setting, "Moonlight View" cottage in Johanna is a perfect resting place for Great Ocean Road travellers and holiday-makers. This 2 bedroom self-contained cottage with balcony, is attached to our owner-built bluestone home on a 5-acre piece of paradise. The Otway National Park edges the property, creating a lovely atmosphere of seclusion and peace. Johanna Beach is close by, and beautiful in all seasons.
The well-insulated interior space of Moonlight View cottage consists of two cosy bedrooms, a kitchen/living room, a toilet with handbasin, and a shower. You will be the only guests, so all of these rooms are for your use only. Heating and cooling is taken care of with a very effective split-system aircon/heater in the living area. There are also double gazed windows throughout, helping to keep you cosy in the colder months and cool through the summer nights. The light and sunny living room looks out onto a gorgeous view of Johanna Beach. There is a big comfy couch and another day-bed/couch (which can also be used as a single bed if needed). The main bedroom, perfect for a couple, contains a queen-sized bed and the second bedroom contains a double bunk bed (double on bottom and single on top). You will also have private access to a balcony and verandah, accessible via the sliding glass doors in the living room. The property is solar powered (with grid back-up) and supplied with clean, filtered rainwater (delicious!)
Johanna is a picturesque rural settlement stretching along the coast between Glenaire and Lavers Hill. Rolling hills and lush rain forest meet at the foot of the wild Southern Ocean. The area is steeped in history, from the discovery of dinosaur fossils in the Glenaire Valley to the Cape Otway Lightstation, the oldest of its type on mainland Australia. The impressive surf beach at Johanna is a stretch of beach breaks, or beach and reef, noted for its power and reputation for rapid jumps in size. Johanna beach is also a very popular fishing spot particularly for schools of salmon. Johanna is perfectly located for exploring the shipwreck coast, being midway between the 12 Apostles and Apollo Bay. Other nearby attractions are the many awe-inspiring walks amongst the ancient giants of the Otways Ranges. The cool temperate rainforest of the Great Otway National Park boasts one of the highest rainfalls in the state with waterfalls flowing year-round. Walkers of almost any ability can trek around the Otways, discovering the Great Ocean Walk, waterfalls, lush forests, cliff top walks, heritage and coastal trails. You have the choice between going inland or hugging the rugged coast, with its awe-inspiring views.

  • Sue was a great host! She was quick to respond, gave us pointers and tips, and made sure we had everything we needed. Her place is very spacious, clean, and has games, books, and movies. The best part is the backyard and the view! Our pup loved prancing around the huge yard and we loved looking at the coast from the balcony.

There’s a great playground for the kids and a mild walk to the ocean. The staff is knowledgeable about the area and were a great help in suggesting stopping points on our drive. • Our stay with Ian was wonderful. Every day we were amazed by the view, looking out into the trees and seeing the ocean in the distance. The home was also really special and full of interesting touches and everything we needed for the weekend. The vegetable garden was INCREDIBLE – we really loved having fresh vegies and herbs to cook with! The location was perfect for us to spend day trips to the 12 Apostles and a bunch of other amazing places that Ian has put in the travel guide. We feel so lucky to have found this place. Would definitely love to stay again. Thank you, Ian, for being such a great host!

    Nick2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • “Sea garden” is a wonderful space in terms of location and accommodation. We appreciated its apparent remoteness - you need to take your supplies when you go, but Apollo Bay and Laver’s Hill are not very far; you’ll find yourself in a clearing in the forest with a distant sea view of Johanna Beach and you’ll see wallabies in the morning and evening around the house - and its comfort - a charming, quirky house that speaks of someone who knows his way around tools and building and who has an eye for the unusual and the beautiful; well-furnished rooms and a kitchen that works and is indeed well-supplied (as opposed to those you too may have encountered with cupboards totally bare). Communication with Ian was excellent and his welcome was warm, relaxed and friendly. I had a tour of his kitchen garden which I had an invitation and occasion to use. This is a place in which to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the place. Your host knows the area, is helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the calm and comfort and - let’s be practical - the good value of Ian’s Otway “Sea garden”. We’ll go back!

We always wanted a nice house near the beach, now we have and we are happy to share it with others from around the world, it is not huge but very comfortable. The beach pad has everything you need, all beds have linen and towels , the kitchen has everything you need. It has fast WiFi and a smart TV with Netflix and movies. It has an enclosed lockable garage with a remote control for easy access.
The beach pad has a great view of the beach which is about 80 meters away. The shops and restaurants are a 10 minute walk along the beach or the paths beside the Ocean Road.
Our neighbourhood is very safe, walking after dark is ok to do, the water from the tap is okay to drink.

  • We had a fantastic stay! We were so impressed with everything from the cleanliness of the cottage, the beautiful setting, the coziness of the house, and the thoughtfulness of the host! She truly had everything covered- we were traveling with our 2 yr old and 8 month old and they were well taken care of with the baby cot, high chair, bunk bed, and fun array of toys and books. We loved the access to the gardens and we were so thrilled to have the added bonus of kangaroos playing in the pasture each night. Such a nice stay for our family and we hope to return soon!

  • A wonderful place to socially isolate (although physical distancing is far preferred) - apart from Daisy the dog who was a lot of fun when she came over to say hello. Spacious where it counts (areas for relaxing and doing not much) and has incredible views over Johanna beach on the Great Ocean Walk (which passes a couple of hundred metres down the road). Thoroughly enjoyed by us and hopefully you too.

  • We loved every part of our stay in Yuurong. Absolutely five star. Georgie is a fantastic host. She has thought of all the extra touches that you’d hope for. The views on the property are amazing. The local beach is superb. The puppy (Daisy) is an added bonus. Thanks for having us!

  • Staying here was by far our favourite destination of our entire 3 week trip! Incredibly kind and helpful hosts, and an absolutely beautiful home, tucked away from tourists! If you plan to do great ocean road I highly recommend staying here!! Thanks again!

    Blair2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Georgina was excellent at communication and gave excellent tips for arriving to the place but also the nearby area. Her partner John who checked us in is also lovely and gave us some very useful tips for nearby sights. Their place is within the same grounds so although it is remote, it still felt very safe. The location is absolutely stunning and a lovely break from the noisy seaside and cities. I couldn’t stop looking at the views of the hills and the ocean. The actual place is sparkling clean and by far the cleanest place we stayed in during our Australia visit. Georgie very kindly had left milk and cafetière coffee for us which we loved as a change from capsules and instant coffee. Would I stay here again? Absolutely yes!

    Nikolina2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great Ocean Walk cottage is amazing. Up in the mountains with native wildlife all around. We have never such a mob of kangaroos in the wild as we have here. The walk down to Melanesia Beach is well worth it for the rockpools at low tide. A stunning place to rest and refresh. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

    Alexander2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is brilliantly placed on a hill with stunning views of the coast. It's very well built with proper insulation and double glazed windows which a make for a warm & truly quiet retreat. It's spotlessly clean with the right amenities to make your stay comfortable including a terrific, semi-enclosed deck to protect you from those southerlies and take advantage of the views. Access to the best sections of the Great Ocean Walk are just down the road. The property was also visited by Gang Gang cockatoos, Eastern Yellow robins, Kookaburras, Superb Fairy wrens and many other birds while we were there. To top it off, Georgina and Johnny are excellent hosts. A top retreat.

It’s a quiet location that is perfect to unwind and relax - breathe and take some time to truly appreciate the smaller things in the world. For people who love to cook this is the place for you, not only is Mark and Matthew amazing chefs who will offer you 1st class service but they have all the needed materials for you to whip up a full course meal! Not to mention the beautifully fresh and local produce and the home garden! Do yourself a favour and book this place immediately I promise it won’t disappoint!

    Kathy2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 4 night, longer than originally booked, because the place is so fantastic. It is very stylish and surrounded by nature, we even had a wallaby come and visit one evening. I would highly recommend to also utilize Matt and Mathews breakfast and dinner service. The quality is outstanding and the value very good. There is also nothing nearby, some cofee shops 20 minutes away. The nearest restaurants would be in port Campbell and I doubt their food is as good. This place is a perfect base to see the 12 apostles, hike in the otway park or visit secluded beaches. Don’t hesitate, book this place and enjoy yourself!

    Claudia2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • The views are amazing as shown in photos. Ample supply of warm water available despite remote location. Host is very warm and welcoming, provided many different home grown fruits, herbs and teas for consumption. Very close to start of twelve apostles sight seeing route. Due to remote location, we decided to go for Mark's stuff crust pizza. Fortunately we only ordered food for one night as my wife and I were both full from eating just one slice of pizza each for dinner (possibly due to us being Asian and physically smaller) >.<

    Dawn2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Mark and Matthew's gorgeous property for a week of rest, relaxation and tranquility and it delivered in spades. The property is thoughtfully designed with the huge bed, luxurious bath and beautiful herb/veggie garden being some of the highlights - all topped off with spectacular views. We made the most of the well equipped kitchen and BBQ, and utilised the excellent movie collection as well as binoculars for bird-watching and wallaby spotting. Mark and Matthew were perfect hosts, providing very thorough info ahead of booking and on arrival, leaving us to our own devices, but able to be contacted whenever we needed during our stay. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back!

    Georgina2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • One of our favorite Airbnb’s of all time! What an amazing and inspiring place fully and completely in nature with hosts that are clearly stewards of the land.

    Rachael2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and Matthew have created the most magical, unique and beautiful space. The location is perfect and the views that surround the bungalow are to die for. They have truly thought of every way to make sure their guests have the best stay possible. We were constantly blown away. Will definitely be back! Thank you!

    Ariana2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute gem. We were a family of four who stayed three nights and enjoyed every moment. Location is great and totally secluded but still not too far from attractions in the area. The view is stunning both from inside and outside. Communication with Mark was seamless and he was so welcoming and a good source for recommendations. An additional touch was the delicious coffee and homemade extras (oil, hot chocolate, dried fruit etc.) as well as free use of the vegetable garden. It was such luxury and we felt very lucky to have discovered this unique place.

    Kathrine2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is not just an airbnb bunglow, but much more than that. Its a showcase for a way of living- sustainable, close to nature, self sufficient and incredibly calming and beautiful. The house is very tastefully done in an open format, with unique furniture. The decor is very eclectic and shows Mark and Matthew's excellent taste. Finally the location is to die for - atop a hill with a splendid view and lovely star gazing at night. Add to that the wide range of food tasting experiences - home made syrupd for the soda stream, home made truffles...to name a few. The house will slow you down and make you feel calmer and a lot less stressed. We just loved hanging around the property and soaking in the scenary and the extraordinary hospitality we got from our hosts. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Cypress Hill is set on an acre situated just 5km from Apollo Bay on the west side of Marengo. The entire front of the house features glass stretching from floor to ceiling – fusing the outdoors with the interior and saturating the space with light!
  • Beautiful home, as pictured. Good entertainment with pool table and table tennis table and puzzles and board games. Great amenities and kitchen facilities were good too! Beautiful views, quiet area. Main bedroom is noisy when it’s windy. Lots of bugs get into the house as well. Overall a really nice relaxing stay!!!

  • The house and gardens are really beautiful. The house architecture is really stunning and so lovely for an enjoyable stay. But I do agree with a previous review, some of the furniture is odd and out of place. The sound system is not up to date and we couldnt connect our iphones, so bring your own speakers!

    博闻2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • We picked this house because we loved it’s architecture. It was very different to majority other houses in the area. We were not disappointed. The house is definitely not a beach shack. The beautiful designs did not compromise easy use of space. The house was very bright and spacious, perfect for adults with children, but would work well for adults only. Children loved the garden! And it was very easy for us to watch them through huge windows or from the veranda doing our own things. Kitchen is extremely functional and well equipped. It had everything we needed. Bathrooms are also well designed, and simultaneously beautiful and functional. As far as rest of the furnishing is concerned it was as it is in most B&B places: when the owners were furnishing it they paid attention to details and purchase good quality furniture appropriate for the house itself, which in this case is very modern and bold. Once they started renting it, some of peace’s of furniture were replaced with either some old items that they already had somewhere, or bought new ones trying to economise. As a consequence the house has very mix furnishing. For example there is an amazing dinning table with long benches to sit on, but there are also completely inappropriate in style chairs added to it. They work fine as chairs but spoil the general appearance of the dinning/loving space. So attention to detail is not something that is evident in this property. Still it’s designs and most of the furniture are extremely stylish. It is important to note that the house does not have direct beach access. So you have drive to the beach. But we knew that. Also while there road is quite close to the house it’s not very busy even during the day and at night there is hardly any traffic. I am a very light sleeper so if it didn’t bother me it will not bother anyone! The house is managed by an agency rather than the private owner, so you do not have this personal connection. Still they responded very, very quickly when the TV didn’t work. So if you like Apollo Bay/Marengo but also fond of architecture this a perfect house for you!

If you have never seen Koalas in their natural habitat, you will be sure to see many here, we have several families of Koalas living in the trees right outside our back door, just a few meters from our house. Other native animals regularly visit the property as they emerge from the forest to graze at sunset. • What an amazing place! And a koalas on the trees was such a treat! Thanks so much Murray for hosting us! We will be back!

  • The cabin is very cozy, with a lot of love for details. All the descriptions made it very easy to check-in and find the place. Murray is fast answering. Best is the location of the cabin on a large premise with many trees where a lot of koala are living just on your doorstep! It was just fantastic to see the koala and live so close to them! Highly recommended if you love nature - we will definitely be back!

  • Murray's Blue Wren Hideaway was the ultimate accommodation for a weekend visit to the Otways. The space was much bigger than we expected so there was plenty of room for us all, the property was stunning and perfectly tucked away making for a peaceful and serene experience. We saw plenty of native wildlife plus the location is only a 20 minute drive to the main shops etc. Highly recommend for an authentic and immersive Otways getaway. Thank you Murray! We look forward to coming again for future visits!

  • The place is at middle of nowhere and that's exactly what we wanted and liked the most. The cabin is at a huge green area amidst big trees with plenty of koalas on them. We got to hear roars of the koalas which was a surprise gift to us. There was a baby deer roaming around as well. Beautifully decorated cabin and plenty of sleeping spaces for 5 of us.

  • What an amazing place to have spent the last week! Views to die for and so many amazing animals right on your doorstep. We had Koalas, King Parrots, a possum, boobook owl and so many species of birds. Stephan & Karlijn were lovely hosts with plenty of tips where to go and explore. The house is great, with the big fireplace an absolute bonus. Thanks very much for a great stay. We will be back!

  • We had a great stay in the Otways. While the accommodation is compact, it was more than spacious for our group. We saw (and heard!) several Koala during our stay which was a delight for the non-Victorians of the team. The Otways is a beautiful region, which made the journey to the accommodation all the more enjoyable. The only thing to note is it's pretty sparse with cooking essentials (namely oil) – when in doubt, bring some with you!

  • Fantastic EcoLodge. Comfortable, well-equipped and so so quiet. Koalas in the trees nearby and wallabies in the field next door. Loved the place!

  • Peaceful property on a secluded block. No firewood was provided for me so check with the host before your stay or bring your own from the service station in Apollo Bay (firewood and kindling). The place is in tip top shape and the bed was super comfy. Would visit again!

  • Amazing views, peaceful and tranquil surroundings. This is a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed spotting the wildlife, and waking up to the sun shining through the windows, having our morning coffee on the porch and listening to the bird's!
