Places to stay in Fiordland National Park
Here is what a recent guest says "What and incredible experience. The house is modern, well equipped , warm and has beautiful mountain views...sitting in the spa under the night sky was just MAGIC". Relax in this elevated, light bright contemporary space. From here you will be able to unwind while planning your next adventure. Fully self contained with a great kitchen, powerful shower, unlimited wifi and powerful heat pump or air conditioning. The outdoor private spas is the cherry on top!
This is a brand new space, built specifically with airbnb guests in mind. High speed internet, New Zealand artwork, top of the line kitchen, comfy bed....and then there is the setting, private off street parking, elevated deck surrounded by native trees and shrubs to attract birds. I am really proud of what we offer our guests and have no doubt you will enjoy your stay.
Our neighborhood is in a new subdivision which sits elevated with views to town and mountains and lake beyond We have heavily planted with native trees also a small orchid of fruit trees and berry shrubs. We have a really pleasant walk into town which take 10-15 mins or the main street is a 2min drive. Te Anau is a very safe and nice town where it is safe to walk at night and you will find lots of friendly people.
  • Mel was an outstanding host and the place had everything you need. Very cosy interior and lots of personal touches which made this a perfect stay! The hot tub was a great way to relax after long day hikes and Te Anau is picturesque, surrounded by mountains and lakes. This is truly a place we won’t forget and definitely come back at some point!

    Ed2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely perfect. Mel has the place perfectly set up for a quick stop on your way to or from Milford Sound and the spa is a magical touch, perfect for star gazing.

    Gordon2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed two nights at this fantastic place. Of course the private spa was the absolute highlight, but furthermore the place was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. Also, the bed was very comfy and bigger than what we mostly had in New Zealand. It was the most expensive stay during our trip, but being able to watch the stars from the spa was definitely worth it. I would recommend it very much to anyone... Thank you Mel!

  • Lovely apartment located 5 mins drive from Te Anu. Really comfortable and well equipped. Perfect!

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay. The apartment was clean and stocked with everything we needed. The spa was great after 3 days on a tramp. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

  • Mel's accommodation has everything you might need. Little self contained place in a quiet suburb of Te Anau, 20min brisk walk into town. Beautiful sun deck, comfy, bright and warm.

    Kate2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A modern gem in a quiet location with superb views

    John2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this place. Thanks Mel. It was immaculate. Kitchen is great. Bed was really comfy. All her instructions are very clear. The outdoor spa is definitely the highlight. I used it both nights. Mel’s place is about 25 min walk to town if you don’t have transport. I got picked up from here by a tour company to go to Milford Sound. Spectacular. Book this place. It’s fab.

Te Anau is a very nice town: safe and clean. The house is on the way to Milford Sound. From the yard, You could see the mountains of Kepler track. It is a very enjoyable place at the entrance of Fiordland National Park.
  • Donna and Mike are great hosts. Very friendly and Donna even made reservations for us to go on excursions to Milford and Doubtful Sounds and to Glow worm caves. You have access to a nice kitchen space - no oven but everything else you could need. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We highly recommend!

    Susanne2020-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • The room was quiet enough and convenient for communication.

    Dora2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend staying at Donna's place. It was one of our favorite layouts for Airbnb rooms. The shared area for kitchen, laundry and living areas between Airbnb rooms worked very well. Our room was clean and felt bright and airy with windows all around. Donna went above and beyond by helping us figure out how to adjust our travel plans after finding out the Milford Sound road was closed to car travel due to heavy rain.

    Ariel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place. Kitchen area is shared but is very spacious. We enjoyed the space.

    Lorena2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Donna is an amazing host. She was waiting for us when we got to the place and informed us where to visit in Te Anau. The house is very clean too!!

    Karen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Donnas pleace very much. We had an amazing day in Doubtful Sound and the place was just right for the tour. Clean bathroom and kitchen, with all facilities you‘ll need.

    Julia2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was perfect for our nights stay! Cozy and comfortable, I loved all the personal touches in the room. We happened to be there when no one else was staying so we even had the kitchen/shared space to ourselves.

    Marie2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • The room was very clean and tidy, and all the supplies were complete. The location is very convenient. It is only 2-3 minutes by car to the center of the lake. The landlord also communicated well and gave a lot of travel suggestions.

This peaceful, newly renovated, self contained cabin is surrounded by a sheltered backyard. It`s the most amazing feeling to open the window as you wake up, and hear the birds in the large Fiordland Beech tree while the sun streams past the curtains.
This is a great example of the older kiwi holiday house. It`s missing paint in a few places, has a few rough edges, but posses a wonderful atmosphere. If you`re not looking for 5 star, but would like to relax in a private green backyard with established trees you`ll love this.
This is a quiet neighbourhood, only 600 metres from the Main Street.
  • This is my second time here. Just as great as the first time. Adam is amazing! The shower is divine. The sun dried towels were perfect. Thank you Adam!

    Amy2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cosy with a private carpark lots beside it. Just a few minutes walk to the town centre.

    Ruiliang2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was lovely. Adam was helpful, kind, thoughtful and is the epitome of the host who goes the extra mile. We’ll be back!

    Amy2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little place to stay, I’m sorry we only had 1 night but we were in transit to Milford. The bed is very comfortable, lovely extra touches of fruit snacks and cereal, and even beer in the fridge! No kitchen but lots of local restaurants to choose from. I would definitely recommend staying here.

    Anne2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute little spot! A couple min easy walk into town. A beautiful backyard to sit and relax in and great touches by adam- milk and beer in the fridge, cereal to eat.

    Emma2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Adam’s place is a great location, a 5 min walk to town. Quiet and cozy also. Adam provided some great suggestions on things to do and see. The added touch of beer in the frig and fresh fruit were great also. I’d stay there again.

    Deb2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Adam and Anya are such great hosts! We enjoyed our short stay and would highly recommend to anyone.

  • Memorable stay at the Cottage, so much character, great garden, bird company, stayed 4 nights and couldn’t be better located to explore, we loved everything about it!

  • Lovely charming house with lovely little touches. Very homely, and highly recommended

    Leigh2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Myell’s cottage in Manapouri! It is comfy and cozy. It is well stocked with the basics and we enjoyed cooking several meals in the kitchen. It has fantastic outdoor space to laze around in. We would definitely stay again if we have the opportunity.

    John2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous stay at this cosy cottage. Communication beforehand with/from Myell was very good and self check-in was easy. The cottage is well-equipped and had a lovely outside deck and hammock, laundry facilities, an open fire, heaps of information about the area, and plenty of blankets (and even baskets of slippers and hot water bottles) for cooler evenings. It is a short walk from the departure point for Doubtful Sound. Would definitely recommend.

    Sarah2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous cottage in a perfect location - a short walk to the jetty where you start the trip to Doubtful Sound. And an easy drive to/from Te Anau which is the starting point for Milford Sound. The cottage is comfortable with a lovely garden attracting tuneful birds, and has a very pleasant patio to enjoy that Otago wine. One (double) bedroom is a separate sleepout so you have to go into the house for the bathroom.

    Hilary2020-03-03T00:00:00Z

We are really excited to list our brand new airbnb haven for adventurers! We can promise to check all your boxes. 1. Amazing high pressure shower. 2. Brand new queen bed with custom built rustic headboard. 3. Excellent Wifi 4. Heat pump to ensure warmth no matter the weather. Then there are the added extras....full kitchen with top of range appliances, comfy lounge with amazing mountain views, off street parking, outside space with elevated deck, vegetable and herb garden to use....
This is a completely new building that features the highest level insulation and new fittings and fixtures. Don't get caught out booking one of Te Anau older style houses or baches..these can be mighty cold! We also have new heat pump for any temperature drop! We know that travellers sometimes get tired of eating out (and it can be expensive in NZ). Here you dont just have a microwave and maybe cooktop,,,,you get a full kitchen.
We are in a quiet, safe residential neighborhood.
  • Where to begin? We originally had complicated logistics for our stay in Te Anau, bookending our reservations around a tramp on the Kepler Track for four days. Mel made this easy and also let us know she would watch our stuff at her place while we were off hiking. As the dates approached, we had more complications and worked with Mel to extend our stay - lots of notes exchanged. Then at the last, the coronavirus lockdown in NZ disrupted everything. We ended up staying 3 nights at Mel's place and then leaving the area in our effort to return to the United States. Throughout everything we did and everything that happened, Mel was cheery, upbeat, gracious and kind. When it looked like we might not be able to get out of NZ at all, she offered us long-term use of her place. And the tiny house (she has two, both located on part of her own property) itself was just perfect -- small but VERY efficiently designed, a pleasure to occupy and well equipped in every way, better than the pictures really. We will come back to NZ, back to Te Anau and back to Mel's place. She was tremendously hospitable and helpful, even in a country filled with kind and reasonable people.

    Jeff2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay with an amazing view of the landscape right at you're front door. Friendly host with great hospitality. Would recommend to anyone staying in Te Anau.

  • Mel has a wonderful, clean modern house. She has everything you need , for your visit. I did have my big suit case in the living room, but not a problem. we enjoyed our stay there. Also Mel has a flashlight for your use at night. We did see the biggest longerst lasting rainbow in our lives!! Thanks

    Sue2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Mel's place was the perfect spot to stay to enter Milford Sound. Clean, cute, and cozy. She responded very quickly when needed and was easy to communicate with. Would highly recommend!

    Jonathan2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing time in Te Anau at Mel’s place! Had the cutest outdoor deck where we enjoyed some cheese/crackers when it was sunny, parking was easy, and the place was cute and clean. Also very comfy and big bed, which was a huge plus!!

    Lauren2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house is perfect, stylish and comfortable, I had a great time staying there for a couple of days. Mel is a great host, making sure everything is perfect and thinking about all the details you need to feel at home.

Highly recommend to anyone visiting TeAnau. Thanks so much Margie. Left in a rush the night before we were due to check out due to the Coronavirus Border restrictions and a need to return to Australia and onwards to the UK so trust we left the house as tidy as possible!

Our cosy and cute self contained hut is peacefully tucked away amongst farmland and is just a 15min walk to the beach. A highlight of our property is unwinding in the outdoor bath underneath the stars! Our hut is an ideal location for a stopover on the stunning Southern Scenic Route.
This is a romantic cosy private hide away. Clean & tidy self contained Hut on a large 1/4 acre section with native planted gardens. Studio Layout. Queen bed, lounge, kitchenette. The hut size is 8m x 3m Shower & toilet are accessed via the deck The deck is a great space for sunbathing, meditation, yoga & outdoor dinning. Outdoor Bath - relax & unwind in the outdoor bath under the stars = bliss (there is hot water running to the bath). A great Hut near the coast, private and peaceful, nice but casual & a little bit special. Kitchen basics. Mini oven, hotplate, fridge, kettle & toaster. Bedding and towels are provided. A selection of herbal teas and quality fresh plunger coffee are included as well as milk and a variety of spreads, sauces, oils and condiments. Whilst our cosy wee hut only has a queen size bed, we are happy for you to use your own small tent outside on the lawn if you are travelling with children. Also there is room next to the bed for a port-a-cot if you are travelling with a little one (we have a port-a-cot available on-site, just bring your own bedding for this). Please note: the section is not fully fenced (in regards to dogs and small children). There is an area behind the toilet where the neighbours fence is just 1 electric fence across; not a full fence.
Situated on the south coast of Southland, Riverton (also known as Aparima) is an eclectic and quirky town surrounded by stunning natural beauty and home to lovely locally owned cafes. Riverton spans Jacob's River Estuary; and is a picturesque location framed by the vast, sweeping coastline. Riverton's surrounding beaches and estuary are popular with swimmers, kayakers, surfers and families. Dolphins often travel up into the estaury for feeding and can be seen from the beaches. Nearby Colac Bay (and other secret locations) are top spots for surfing. The Long Hilly Track starts just after this bay, exploring regenerating native bush and relics from the days of early Chinese goldmining in Southland. Riverton is also on the Southern Scenic Route and is an ideal stopover between Queenstown and Dunedin. Riverton is located 30km from Invercargill.
  • We loved staying at this lovely cottage - the outside bath is a real luxury and the clear nights made star gazing spectacular. Would definitely recommend this for a stay in Riverton.

  • You will not be disappointed in choosing to spend your time in this lovely place! It is your very own sanctuary, private and cozy. The garden and outdoor area is amazing and the closest neighbor is quite friendly (emphasis on neigh, if you catch my drift). Thoughtful touches like the, robes and cookies, made it extra special. We were pleasantly surprised by town of Riverton. We didn’t know what to expect, but it’s a great place to spend a few days! Artsy, cute cafes, beautiful beaches, and an informative museum.

*Strict cleaning regime, above Ministry of Health NZ recommendations. At least 24hrs between guest stays. *Longterm rates available. This new townhouse is warm and sunny. It is well appointed with all new appliances, quality linen and unlimited WIFI. This newly established area has expansive views of the mountains and is just a 2 min walk to Lake Te Anau. It will suit those with their own transport as the main township of Te Anau is just a 2 min drive but a 15 min walk.
A brand new modern three bedroom, two bathroom home with open plan living and kitchen area. The aspect of the house combined with double glazed windows and carpet throughout ensures a warm place to relax anytime of the year. A heat pump and electric blanket are provided for those chilly winter nights. On a hot summers day throw open the sliding stacker doors and make the most of the mountain views. You can actually see the lake from the house too, but for best results take the 2 min walk right to the shore. The main bedroom has a queen bed, walk in wardrobe and en suite. Sliding doors open onto a small patio. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and is across the hall from the main bathroom. The third bedroom has two single beds. These are classic single size so perfect for kids but not so comfortable for large adults. The house has an attached double garage with laundry and space for the boat.
This area of Te Anau is newly established and it has a quiet and spacious feel. Because there are not many surrounding houses (although there is one directly next door on one side) the views are great and the mountains feel very close.
  • Great place. Clean and spacious accommodation. Had everything you need for a relaxing break. Would certainly stay again.

    Greg2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Toni’s house in Te Anau is spacious, clean, and comfy. The house is about a 15-20 minute walk into town, but it’s so pleasant along the lake. It’s also less than a five minute walk to the lake which was a welcome surprise — the scenery is gorgeous. Toni was very responsive and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this house and would absolutely come back!

    Monique2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This stay was truly outstanding. Everything in the house was well designed and comfortable. Clearly our favorite stay on our New Zealand trip.

A cosy, Mongolian-style yurt with stunning views over Fiordland National Park, in an amazing location next to Lake Te Anau, the Kepler Track and a Lord of the Rings river. Cross our land to an off-road walking/cycling track around the lake into Te Anau town (5 minutes away by car but a world away). Walk through your wooden door and find a beautiful circular space with a duvet-strewn double bed, wood stove, games/books. Lie in bed or sit on the decking gazing at soaring wilderness peaks.
**Please note! We have two very private yurts, in different parts of our land. If 'Yurt With A View' is booked out for the days you want, you may wish to consider our top-of-the-range yurt, The O2 yurt, at https://abnb.me/3099bikmi1 About Yurt With A View Your beautiful yurt, known affectionally to us as Yurty, is perched on a wooden decking on an amazing hillside with jaw-dropping views of Lake Te Anau. It is within gentle walking distance across our land and a golf course to the lakeside and the start of the Kepler Track, one of New Zealand's prestigious great walks in Fiordland National Park. Yurty comes with solar panel lighting including a bedside lamp and a central Turkish stained glass lamp that provides a beautiful warm red glow, a head torch to guide you to the nearby shower room (upgraded with a new shower for 2018/19), a New Zealand wool duvet, hot water bottles and extra blankets and a log burner; so you are guaranteed a snug night while breathing perhaps the cleanest air in the world, in a simply breathtaking location. The shower room and toilet are by the front door of our family home, including eco products and clean towels. Sometimes you share this facility with a farm helper, but it is always clean, and we have renovated our shower room for 2018/19. If you want to get cosy in front of your log burner, we have stacks of books and even a guitar and bag of guitar music. Food We provide fair trade and organic tea and organic plunger coffee making facilities, snack bars and fruit. Within the price, we don't provide breakfast or dinner. However, lots of our guests don't want to leave the yurt once they have arrived! Many guests therefore choose to bring their own drinks and cold meal, or another good idea is to pick up a pizza or Indian take away in Te Anau. You can eat sitting on your private decking in the evening sunshine. In the mornings, the Sandfly Cafe is great for a late brunch after a morning over coffee and fruit in the yurt. You are on a small working farm so expect chickens and cats, and sheep and cows over the fence. You may hear a cockerel in the morning; he is your free-of-charge alarm clock to ensure you don't miss a moment in Fiordland! On starry, balmy nights you can star gaze; there is no light pollution so the night sky is amazing. Yurty is the perfect launch pad for our fabulous fiords, Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound. A trip to either is a trip of a lifetime. However, if you arrive in the early afternoon and are looking for something to do, or are staying with us for several days, there is plenty to do right here! Things to do directly from the yurt Last chance to see: You can stroll around the lake to our free bird park and view the Takahe (one of the rarest birds in the world that only lives in the mountains opposite Yurty). It is an amazing large blue bird that cannot fly, and there are only about 400 left! Get on your bike: You can borrow our family bikes and helmets to cycle in two directions on the amazing new cycle trail. In one direction you cycle around Lake Te Anau into Te Anau township (and past the bird park), and in the other direction you cycle down a Lord of the Rings river next to Fiordland wilderness. Walk or jog in Fiordland National Park: There are fabulous running and walking tracks in the National Park, of any length you need, which you can walk and jog to straight from Yurty (or alternately drive two minutes to the car park). Stay for a night, or stay for longer to soak up Fiordland We are happy to have you just for one night. Many of our guests who have used Yurty as their launch pad for getting to Milford Sound have found it a perfect one night base. However, if you are considering staying for longer, then even better! Many of our one-night-only guests have told us they wished they had booked longer. Yurty is a place to slow down for a while and there is so much to do in Fiordland! Getting here If you do not have a car, it is easy to hop on a bus to get here (Intercity or Tracknet). We can pick you up and drop you off at the bus stop. If you have your own car we are easy to find and are a five-minute drive from central Te Anau, but a world away from Te Anau suburbia. We send directions on booking. Planning to do a multi-day walk (known as tramping)? If you are planning to walk the Kepler or any other of the Great Walks near us (Routeburn, Milford, Hollyford, etc) we can give you tramping advice including helping you rent your equipment. Mary is a mountain guide. If you have a car but don't want to leave it in a carpark for several days, we can also transport you, or arrange your transport, to the start of the walks. Planning to cruise or kayak the Sounds? We can help arrange this for you, or simply search online for Fiordland boat cruises or kayaking trips. Andrew is a kayak guide and can give you kayaking advice and tips on visiting Milford Sound by kayak. Want to leave your belongings here? You can leave your belongings with us if you arrive earlier than the check-in time, and leave them with us while you are tramping. We have a lockbox for your valuables. We also have plenty of parking space.
  • A cute little Yurt to stay in. Toasty warm with the fire. A memorable place to stay. Sadly the weather wasn’t nice enough to enjoy sitting on the little deck outside

  • What a fabulous experience we had staying here! • This is such a wonderful and unique stay. The yurt is the perfect space for two people, the bed is super comfortable and the property is stunning. It is quite the gem. There is a really nice walk to town from the property that we really enjoyed. Would recommend to everyone!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the yurt in beautiful Te Anau. Andrew was an excellent host and a wonderful source of local information! Would definitely recommend 😊

  • Amazing stay at Andrew’s yurt! Too bad we came in late we weren’t able to see the view, but no doubt I will be back again! Loved the layout and the fire. Great communication from Andrew as well :) highly recommend

  • Incredible yurt with beautiful views of the lake and the mountains. Situated right on the Kepler Track, so you can literally walk out your "yurtstep" across a field and a golf course and get on the trail, which is terrific for running and walking. Andrew is very communicative, warm, and helpful. The yurt is cozy and you can get a fire going in there. The kitchen and bathroom are a short walk away and you can make endless cups of tea. I was also able to park my car at Andrew's for a couple days while I did the Milford Track. His title of superhost is well-deserved! Anyone visiting Te Anau should definitely stay here! Thank you so much!

    Mia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wow what a place! The yurt views are stunning and on a clear night the stars really are the most amazing thing.l we have seen. Andrew was really attentive and showed us around and gave us some seriously useful information about the Milford sound road being closed for cars. Giving us time to arrange a bus, what a save! By the way Milford sound is worth the trip, simply breath taking. The yurt itself is really cosy, very nicely decorated and feels very comforting. The fire is effective and kept us warm on a cold and windy night too! Almost too hot! That is until we woke up. The fire maybe lasted half the night and then In The morning we had to dart for all warm clothes we could find, super cold. Great experience - highly recommend this.

Luxury Self Contained 1 bedroom Cottage This Cottage is one of the original 'Cribs' of Te Anau and was built by my Grandfather back in 1942. It was originally located right on the edge of Lake Te Anau, but the often cold wind off the Lake during winter prompted him to 'relocate' the cottage down to the back of the section where it is now nestled in it's private and sheltered position. As customary back in this day, the 'Crib' under went many additions and renovations as the family and finances grew. In 2011 the cottage was renovated and basically stripped and rebuilt it from the inside out. Restaurants in the town centre are 10 minutes walk None I grew up here and love the town, mountains rivers and scenery Transit New Zealand and Real Journeys Hire cars available in town No just enjoy your holiday in my house and all Fiordland has to offer you

  • This is a very nice converted garage, and when you’re looking for it, it will be behind the main house. Even though it’s a converted garage, it’s better than most homes I’ve stayed in, with great insulation and central a/c. There is parking on the premises adjacent to the entrance door, so getting things in and out of the car was very convenient.

Cosy 3 bedroom Bach with sunny open living kitchen and lounge which opens out on to the porch and garden. The house contains two large bedrooms with queen beds, one with a single sofa bed. Another bedroom with bunks and trundle bed. In the house is one bathroom equiped with shower and toilet, the second bathroom situated in the garage also has a shower and toilet. This Bach is Close to the town centre, the lake and directly across from Fergus Square park/reserve - great to play cricket/rugby on.
The house is nice and sunny, but there is a newly installed heat pump for those chilly days. All prices include linen and towels. We have portacot with linen and highchair in the house for your use.
The Bach is in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, minutes walk from the town or lake and lots of grassy space in the reserve across the road. In the heart of Fiordland, there is always lots to do - Milford Sound, Doubtful sound, Manapouri, Cycle track, Glow worm caves and more.
  • Sarah gave us clear communication and a fast response to a last minute booking. Her house is lovely and contains anything you might need to make your stay enjoyable. Truly a home away from home, and the neighbors are very nice. :) Our favorite amenities were the well-stocked kitchen and WiFi with smart TV to watch Netflix on the rainy days. This is the perfect house for families or even just a couple looking for a quiet getaway! Highly recommend!

My place is in the town centre where all the restaurants and shops are and is only 150 metres from the lakefront. Miro Street is surrounded by cafe's, pubs, pizzerias, shops, Gelato, the Cinema and supermarkets. Buses to Milford Sound etc. leave from our street. This room has a separate private bathroom, is modern, a bit pretty, in a great country style home. When it is not too windy, you can enjoy breakfast from our deck, gazing at the snow capped Murchison Mountains and Mount Luxmore.
Our space is fresh and pretty with a touch of cottage charm. Fresh flowers in season and we are a pretty friendly bunch.
  • Great location, close to center of town, convenient for trips. Host could not have been more helpful and considerate. Even provided a basic breakfast each day!

  • Nadine and Craig are exceptional hosts. Clear and timely communications, made us feel warm welcome and provided us with valuable tips. The place is sparkling clean, stylish. The bed is comfortable and water pressure in the shower is great. We had to get up early to catch the tour they even got breakfast ready for us before 6 am, which we didn't expect. Great hospitality. The location of their home is very convenient, you can walk to the town center, even the tour pick up point within a couple of minutes. Would highly recommend to others.

  • Junko and Neil are very hospitable. They live in an amazing location with beautiful views of the mountains. The accommodation was very comfortable. We had our own sitting room as well as our bedroom. Junko went out of her way to help us - recommending places to visit on the way and while we were there, doing our washing, and of course fantastic breakfasts and meals there.

Junko and Neil went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and we particularly enjoyed our farm tour and delicious, fresh breakfast. • Junko is the best host I've ever met. She helped me arrange my schedule in Te Anau very carefully. So I could enjoy horse riding, Glowworm Cave Tour, Doubtful Sound Cruise successfully. It was interesting in farm experience too. I sincerely appreciate for all her consideration and kindness. Junko's dinner and homemade ice-cream were wonderful. Especially this morning's lunchbox was full of love like my mom's, and my partner and I were happy with it all the time. I highly recommend Junko&Neil's homestay farm.

    Jung Ah2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A really unique experience. Junko, Neil and their family welcome you wholeheartedly into their home. Facilities are good, the food is excellent, the farm tour and goat-milking are unmissable. Only stay if you are prepared to join in and have fun! We loved it.

Tiny cabin in a peaceful setting with panoramic views, overlooking an organic blueberry plantation. 7 mins out of Te Anau. Just opposite the Te Anau Observation Point, which looks across Lake Te Anau and surrounding mountains.
The cabin is a cozy little space (3m x 3m) with a sofa bed that folds out easily. This firm bed sleeps two adults and there is no room for any additional beds. There is also a picnic table behind the cabin, with mountain views.
The cabin is on a quiet gravel road, shared with only one other neighbour. A car is recommended, as you will be around 7min drive from Te Anau township.
  • Alina’s place is a breath of fresh air. It is close to town but far enough away to feel like you’re in the countryside. The view is spectacular and you have to be crazy to miss the beautiful hues of the sky created at sunset, as well as the abundance of stars in the sky at night. The room is sufficient as you have an entire farm as your living room. Book this tiny treasure. You won’t regret it!

    Kaylie2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I have never seen a place of this size that would be so functional. Every tiny nook and cranny of this cabin is used to its fullest potential and the kitchen, although small at first sight, comes with everything you’ll need. And then the views ... priceless!

    Adam2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great if you want to get away from commercialised Te Anau. Simple but very clean! Blueberries were in season too so we got to enjoy a plethora of them for a very modest price!

Queen bedroom in new home in Te Anau. A quiet & peaceful place to rest at the end of a busy day with a hot tub to soak away the aches & pains. Only a 2 minute walk to the lake & walking track. We look forward to meeting you.
We want our home to be your home away from home. Your room is a warm & comfortable refuge at the end of a busy day exploring Fiordland and all of its natural beauty. Your room has one queen bed & is suitable for a single or couple. Possibly the best shower & water pressure you could hope for... you do share the bathroom with our other guest room, so if that room is empty you will have the bathroom all to your self.
Our home is a 2 minute walk to the lake & a great walking track... turn left & you will end up in town... we recommend the Sandfly Cafe for breakfast & great coffee or La Toscana for the yummiest Italian in town. Turn right and end up at the river... maybe jump in the lake if its a hot day!!
  • Thank you so much for your hospitality, generosity and kindness to us in difficult circumstances. Charming hosts with lots of local knowledge.

    Martin2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here. Don't even think about not staying here!

    Michael2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place with nice hosts and their animals. Good bed and good standard on all things.

    Anders2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our two night stay with Sheena and Malcom and their sweet pets. Every detail for a comfortable stay had been thought of and many great tips were given.

    Chris2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect house with perfect hosts. We could only meet Shrek, he gave us some good chat and our own space. The house is totally fancy and clean.

    Jose Gerardo2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very short stay, but it was perfect. Loved meeting all the animals. Was able to do some much needed laundry. Bedroom and bathroom were spacious and had everything we needed. Unfortunately, didn’t get to use the hot tub, but there were robes provided for that if we had gotten a chance. Lots of local tips. Would definitely stay here again!

    Zoe2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm and Sheena’s place is one of the most outstanding accomodation experiences I have had to date. It was beautifully appointed, spotlessly cleaned and had everything you need! Communication with Malcolm prior to my trip was effortless and he went as far as organising two tours for me, which was above and beyond! I couldn’t recommend this stay anymore, and if you’re a dog lover, the dogs will be the cherry on the pie, making sure you feel at home.

    Rob2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect for our stay at Shrek's. The dogs and cats were friendly, the house is big, clean and modern. Shrek was friendly, relaxed, welcoming. The room is cozy and has everything you need, same thing for the bathroom. You can walk to the lake in 5 minutes. The hot tub is clean and nice. If you want to relax on your vacation to Te Anau, this is certainly a good place!

Tiny footprint travellers just love this modern living space with sunny position and simple pleasures. Just a short walk to lake reserve, close to bike trail, away from tourist trail but just a few minutes to shops. Perfect for chill-axing between missions into Fiordland National Park. The South West NZ World Heritage Area is almost on YOUR doorstep here: make sure you stay at least two full days to enjoy a sample of what the region has to offer! I live nearby and if you need assistance.
This bespoke tiny house was designed in 2015 by a young couple who know how little house is needed for a really good life. Takahē Nest was built by a tradesman who lives a block away, exquisitely finished in 2016. The Takahē Nest is named after a rare flightless bird that was thought extinct 100 years ago but was rediscovered in small numbers in the mountains you can see from your kitchen & living space. Although "techni-coloured turkey" in adult appearance, the Takahē chicks are jet black. Social impact statement = You enable us to triple-bottom line towards sustainability by sponsoring Takahē and many local social causes too. We are fastidious cleaners and offer a buffer before and after your booking to ensure your stay can change if required.
This area was a verdant green pasture a few years ago, the oyster catchers, skylarks, plovers and ducks which still live here don't seem to mind the new houses! It's a growing neighbourhood which attracts like minded people to the area. Young families, retired farmers and modern professionals are establishing themselves in this new part of the lakeside township.
  • This little hideway is a great place to serve as a base for Doubtful and Milford Sounds, as well as to explore Te Anau. Highly recommended.

    Travis2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house was perfect for us. Small for sure but very well put together. We will definitely be back!

    Mike2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in this tiny home. The space was very thoughtfully set out and it had a real eco focus, which was great as it is often hard to be environmentally friendly when traveling. The host was warm and friendly. Highly recommend this place for a stay in Te Anau.

    Grace2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Takahe nest is a great place to stay. It is stylish, clean and John is a fantastic host, accommodating my requests and making an extra effort to make sure my stay was comfortable.

  • Cutest house ever, we absolutely loved it and didn't want to leave!

  • Takahe Nest is a perfect place to rest your weary feet after an adventure in Fiordland. The tiny house is in a beautiful location. Sitting out on the deck eating tea and watching the sun go down was so relaxing. We loved everything about our stay and John is a great host .

    Susan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, convenient location, and also just adorable. There was a whole booklet on activities in the area, which was a very kind touch. Our Spacious apartment (on the ground floor of our home) has two bedrooms - one with a double bed the other a double and single. The bathroom is an en-suite off one of the bedrooms. There is off street parking, a full kitchen, living area with Television (Freeview channels) and free WIFI. We are only a 5 minute walk to the many restaurants, shops and our beautiful lake. Our Apartment has a heater that heats the area up in no time and is operated on a timer for 3hrs at a time.
What's unique about our apartment is it's spaciousness in both the living area and the bedrooms. It is comfortable, warm and quiet with little to no road noise from the street. We do live upstairs however with the associated 'noise' of people moving around above, which we try to mindful about.
Te Anau is known as the "Gateway to Fiordland" and has a resident population of some 2,500 people, which swells to around 7,000 in the Summer months. There are many walking tracks for day (or longer) walks. We have cycle tracks, one of which runs along the bank of the Waiau River in Fiordland National Park. Bicycles can be hired from Outside Sports or one of the other three options - including electric bike hire. Fiordland Cinema for "Ata Whenua" a local helicopter pilot, Kim Hollow's 35min aerial view of his vision of parts of Fiordland never seen by the average person, filmed when he was operating as a Deer Recovery Operator. Well worth a watch and thoroughly recommended on the big screen. Our house and apartment is situated within 5 minute walk to many fine (some award winning) restaurants our town has to offer, including... The Black Dog Bar beside Fiordland Cinema on The Lane - for NZ style Tapas. Redcliff Cafe on Mokonui Street - Winner of numerous NZ Beef and Lamb awards. La Dolce Vita - for a genuine Italian experience. If you have children with you, there are two main playgrounds; Lion Park and a smaller one at the boat harbour.
  • We visited during New Zealand's rapidly-changing response to COVID-19. Julie and Ian were very communicative during the process, letting us know what the latest information was. Otherwise, the space was also very nice, with use of a kitchenette, cooking and eating utensils, and some basics for breakfast (ie cereal, milk, and fruit cups). It's also right by the grocery store and a nice, quiet beach area. Hopefully we can visit during more normal times!

    Nicole2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Pleasant and clean with all the basics for an enjoyable three day stay. Quick walk to downtown, waterfront and restaurants. Really a wonderful spot IN a wonderful spot. Julie was warmly interactive and appropriately present. We would stay there again.

    Philip2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful, clean and homely. Very kind and friendly host, we were very happy here.

    David2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Julie is a great host and the apartment is very well equipped. We recommend hightly this apartment.

    Denise2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's place was awesome. It is actually a self contained house on its own. It has 2 bedrooms. In one room there is a double bed and a single bed. In the master bedroom there is an attached toilet. I was not comfortable with the wash basin in there. It was so tiny you cannot brush your teeth nor wash your face without splashing out of the basin. Also, not sure if it is the culture here, you have no place to hang your clothes and towel in the bathroom. The kitchen has stoves for cooking. We didnt use it. There is a tiny fridge available for use. Cutlery and kitchen stuff are available. Julie was very kind to open the 2nd room to us after finding out we were a mother and son pair. She allowed us to use both rooms. Not wanting her to have more to clean after we leave, we used the room with the single and double bed. The most pleasant air bnb I have stayed in!

    Ming2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Julie’s place. It was very clean and roomy- lots of space. Location was great only a few mins walk to town.

    Annice2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The host was lovely and the location was excellent.. 5min walk to everything you need. The place has everything for short or long term stay. Clean and tidy aswell. Would stay here again!

    Simon2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place has everything you need and is situated right in Te Anau. We spent five nights in this beautiful area and you can reach everything from Julie's house. The fact that the hosts are living upstairs makes you feel closer to Kiwis😉. However Julie is a top host and very generous! Thank you very much again!

"47 Dusky" is a new, 40m square tiny house situated on a large section with a newly planted native garden. It is only an 8 min walk from Lake Te Anau and an 11 min walk to the main supermarket. With a new queen sized bed, laundry, as well as new furniture and appliances, this comfortable cottage is the perfect base from which you can explore amazing Fiordland. Not suitable for infants and children.
This compact cottage has all the facilities of a modern motel unit but is set by itself on a spacious, landscaped section. This is an ideal spot for a single traveller or couple to enjoy a relaxing holiday.
We love living in Te Anau, a small friendly town on the edge of Fiordland National Park. The town is on the shore of Lake Te Anau which is the largest lake in the South Island and is the closest town to Milford Sound.
  • Nice little cottage, neat and tidy and exactly as advertised. Happy to recommend.

    Kevin2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had three nights with Joy and Dave ... we definitely didn't regret our decision to stay there ... the accommodation has everything you need for cooking etc ... the bed was very comfortable and the house was very spacious for two people ... the paths to the water and the town were short ... the garden is great !!! this is geared towards the midday sun ... after our arrival we relaxed there and enjoyed the sun ... our stay here we will have fond memories for a long time ... highly recommended !!!

    Alexander2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay in Te Anau. We felt like part of the community in our little house and it had everything we could need. The best part was the communication wit Dave and Joy-as though we were their only guests. We enjoyed cooking there and going out too. Try Fat Duck for dinner (get reservations) and be sure to go to the Glow worm caves. But most of all...stay at 47 Dusky!

    Leigh2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were totally satisfied with the accommodation. The location is quiet, yet very central - restaurants and the supermarket are within walking distance. The little cottage was super clean and comfortably furnished. Tea, coffee and ginger biscuits were in the kitchen. In addition, everything was there for kitchen utensils to cater for yourself. Joy gave us valuable tips a few days beforehand so that we could book a tour to Milford Sound in good time, as it is currently closed to private vehicles. Thanks a lot for this. We would stay here again anytime :).

    Anne-Kathrin2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend a stay here. The cottage is a small home away from home, beautifully decorated and equipped with every necessity. The location is perfect, so close to town yet quiet, and with wonderful views of the mountains.

    Shelley2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is extremely clean and well located. We were met by Joy who was very helpful with local information. There were also lovely touches, especially the ginger biscuits.

    Chris2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A very good accomodation, very tidy, we loved to sit outside in the garden. Short walk to the lake and Restaurants, very quiet. Best place to stay

    Carola2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy space with a great view of the mountains. It was very comfortable and we had everything we needed to make meals in and do laundry. Walking distance to the supermarket, the lake and the rest of town. We didn’t need our car to do anything locally. The bathroom sink is too small but everything else was great. Would highly recommend.

  • This place is in such an amazing location, right on the edge of the lake but tucked into its own little forest. Simple accom..we had a cabin but spotlessly clean and well appointed amenities. Communal kitchen was great and spotless and we appreciated finding board games and books. Also, perfect location to wander down onto the doubtful sound tour..also recommend. Thank you

    Esteban2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay at Possum Lodge and was pleasantly surprised by how really wonderful this facility is. Whether you are in a cabin as we were, or tent camping, or in an RV, this is where you want to be. The showers were hot and clean and the restroom facilities are modern and clean and the kitchen had all of the amenities. The water is potable, unlike the DOC sites. There was recycling and a rubbish, too. There is a lounge and picnic tables and even a barbecue grill. The landscaping had lots of flowers and it is just a lovely space. And I’m not really sure why but we did not have issues with sand flies there...it could have been the 25 knot winds, but the vegetation and structures provided a great wind block so happy that we were not bothered either way.

The hosts are so friendly and they have so much local knowledge. If you are in the area and don’t stay here, you’ll miss out on one of it’s best assets so don’t miss out! We’re coming back in 2 days time it’s that good :)

Set on a hill overlooking Te Anau, the lake, and mountains in the distance, it has the most stunning views from the double bedrooms and Kitchen diner. The place itself has been done to a high standard, with thoughtful touches such as milk, cereals and yummy chocolate too! Susanna couldn't have been more helpful, and

  • We adored this Air BnB. The views are incomparable and we were especially obsessed with the bathroom and shower. Our hosts were also very generous!

    Jo2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous home and relaxing environment. Impeccable designed, spotless, and very detail is thought of in this space. Wish we could have stayed longer. It is really is designed and detailed more as a home than for guests. Susanna and Glen were extremely accommodating in all ways and really eased us, especially when other details of our trip were less than expected. As frequent Air B&B users, we found their property, decor, kitchen, shower quality were all superior. Starry sky at night with view of lake, jacuzzi, and bbq grill were all added pluses.

  • If you are looking for a true bed and breakfast vibe on a beautiful farm in Fiordland, this is the place for you! The hosts have put a lot of work into making their property beautiful (including a future pond on the way), and the guest house we stayed in is brand new. The most special part of the stay was a tour of the farm, when we got to meet the sheep, cows, and chickens. Wanda and her husband were great hosts and provided a lot of great tips. I believe Wanda is in the tourism industry, so she is a wealth of knowledge! Thanks for a special stay in Fiordland!

    Eunice2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wanda was a fantastic host and she was kind enough to give us a tour of the animals as well as fresh eggs from her hens. Very tidy space and only 5 mins from town.

  • We loved our stay here! Really cute location a short drive from Te Anau. Wanda and her husband are great hosts!

  • Great place and beautiful location. Perfect base for our trip to Milford Sound.

    Hannah2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wanda’s place was everything a traveler could hope for. Knowledge and friendly hosts, central location and an outstanding living space. The bed was very comfortable and Daryl’s suggestions for local restaurants and places to visit were spot on. We had fresh eggs for breakfast every morning as well. Just a warm and wonderful three days with incredible people.

    John2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful clean and stylish space, but best of all is how beautiful the property and the views were! Would definitely recommend!

    Kathleen2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We have had a fantastic stay at Wanda’s Place. The accommodation is very comfortable and it has all you need and more. Great spot!!! Thanks Wanda for the local tips very appreciated...

  • Wandas place is located 5 km outside of Te Anua and is surrounded by wonderful views of farmland and mountains. It was spotlessly clean. Wanda was very helpful in making suggestions to us for our trip to Milford Sound, which turned out perfectly.

Manapouri is a quiet small village at the entrance to the Fiordland National Park. It is located on the eastern shore of New Zealand’s most beautiful lake: Lake Manapouri. With its laid back character and population of around 400, it’s a great alternative to the busy tourist spots in the surrounding areas, like Te Anau, which is only 15 minutes drive north. Pearl harbour in Manapouri is the departure point for all Doubtful Sound trips and several of the Great Walks in Fiordland. The local town has a couple of pubs and cafes. A general store and a petrol station. The closest supermarket, chemist and medical centre is 15 minutes drive away in Te Anau

  • A beautiful cottage, exceptionally clean and homely, with views of the lake. Lots of additional little extras in the kitchen. Fabulous location to take the tour to Doubtful Sound. Really enjoyed our 3 nights and enjoyed this beautiful location in preference to the more touristy Te Anau. Wished we could have stayed longer.

A Budget (own sleeping bag) wilderness style hut within an Art Gallery on the southern edge of World Heritage Wilderness Area Fiordland National Park. Nzs newest Great Walk the Hump Ridge Track starts here. Bars, cafes and take-aways are only 1 minutes walk. Within an easy half days travel of NZs premier tourist attractions. We have NO KITCHEN facilities available and ask that you dont cook in our space-Please use the local cafe's/shops, it helps our town survive!
A bunkroom modelled after a wilderness hut so iconic in NZs back Country. The bathroom in a separate building a few meters away adds to the authenticity of the experience. A cosy lounge just for guests and your own entrance to come and go as you please. The room is inside an art gallery run by your hosts and provides a very inspirational and quiet space. The bunkroom is run like the backcountry hut it is modelled after so YOU NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG/ BEDDING. There is NO KITCHEN OR COOKING facilities just plenty of local eating places nearby. Just imagine you are in a hut in the wilderness but that you have a hot shower and flush toilet and you will know what you are getting. The room is yours when you book whether you are 1 or 4. You dont share it with anyone other than your own group. Ideal for those who are looking for budget accommodation before heading off on a hiking adventure in southern Fiordland. I have written a guide book for hiking in the area and it is available to guests. I am also able to answer all your questions about getting out into our wonderful wilderness.
Tuatapere is a small self reliant town with beautiful walkways, rivers, coast and mountains all around. You can walk from one end to the other in 5 minutes and yet still be discovering hidden treasures 5 years later. We have many great food outlets, a supermarket, doctor, school, 24hr fuel and full mechanical service workshops. Live music is often playing at one of the pubs/cafes. Tuatapere is the gateway to Fiordland National Park southern region and the famous Hump Ridge Track which is owned by the people of Tuatapere. There are many adventures to be had outdoors-please ask Greg about where and how.
  • Greg is just nice and lovely person. Great communication! Fast and honest answers. Recommended

  • The Cwtch is a great place for people/trampers who are used to staying in huts. It is small and cosy. I stayed in the perfectly Ok bunkroom, but the private room is very charming. The bathroom is fine. You can't cook but there are good eateries and a small supermarket within a couple of minutes walk. It is very convenient for the South Coast and Humpridge tracks, as well as the Scenic South Route.

    James2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place! Clean and convenient. More than that, it was a pleasure to talk to Greg and learn about the local outdoors and have a look at the unique art in the gallery!

    Helen2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a kind host!

    Audrey2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Greg's "hut" offers space to rest, sunny seats to read and make notes, and plan your adventures. Greg offers great tips on kea spotting sites and off-the-heavily-beaten track tramping based on his personal experience (and his published guide book). The Cwtch's location is perfect for someone seeking to enjoy the southern Southerns Alps without the crowds. A genuine small town "gateway" to great places.

  • This apartment is the perfect spot for couples looking for a home base in Te Anau. It has tons of amenities and nice touches, and is very clean and open. Lots of room to spread out, do a load of laundry, and have some food. Highly recommend.

    Kristen2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a must stay if you are in Te Anau. Super cozy and super clean, just brilliant. Lived it to bits.

    Tony2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was great. Clean, modern, comfortable, lots of thoughtful touches, plus plenty of hot water. The only complaint is that the bathroom is very small, but it's still usable.

    Joel2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay - very well equipped and beautifully presented. Highly recommended and is one if the nicest air b&b’s we’ve stayed in.

    Susan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay at Frank and Chrys's house would highly recommend this air bnb, have everything you need and more very comfy bed :)

    Laura2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, new, well equipped cottage was more like a small house because it was so well appointed and comfortable. Only 3 minutes from town on a quiet, safe street, completely surrounded by its own private yard and driveway. Environmentally conscious and high quality soaps, shampoos, body wash were a luxurious touch. Other wonderful thoughtfulness included cooking oil, teas, coffee, milk, cereals, jams, peanut butter, marmite and even chocolate on your night stand! Bathroom is small but cleverly designed as is the kitchen with quality appliances and stove/oven with plenty of pots, pans, dishes. It was so nice to be able to do a load of laundry. Highly recommended, especially for less than the price of a hotel room in Te Anau, you can have your own entire very place.

    Vicki2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little cottage, very modern, clean, warm and cosy. Check in was so easy and the communication was great. So quiet out at the edge of town, just felt like home. We would highly recommend staying here.

Welcome to Lake Manapouri, the hidden gem of the South. Our new 'suite style' bach is nestled in the heart of the best that Manapouri has to offer, with bush walks to gorgeous lake beaches a step out the door. Couples, and small groups will love this location on the doorstep of Fiordland National Park, while still only a few doors down from a bar/ restaurant, cafe / dairy and the starting point for Doubtful Sound cruises.
Our bach is modern, stylish, and holds everything you need to relax, unwind and appreciate the beauty of Fiordland National Park. It is a compact space with a great layout, beautiful outlook and with a feel of being in the heart of Manapouri.
Manapouri feels like a sleepy haven, where you can enjoy paradise without the hustle and bustle of other locations.
  • The Bivy is the perfect place to stay, for the Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound tours. An exceptional clean and tastefully decorated wee cabin with everything you need. A lovely cozy place to return to at the end of the day. Carolyn’s communication is very clear and concise with care and a lovely warmth. Would highly recommend to stay here.

    David2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • When we drove into Manapouri, we were desperate for lunch so we stopped at "The Church" where we would also figure out where "The Bivy", our new 'crib', would be. It was practically right next door! Ideally located to Lake Manapouri (across the street) and up the hill from the excursion boat to Doubtful Sound, we found Carolyn's place to be just perfect. Bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Easy parking and entry. Very clean, very modern, with every convenience including a washing machine, lovely shower with good pressure, dishwasher, oven, stovetop, kettle & toaster, wi-fi, etc. It is a one bedroom but they have put another bed where maybe the couch would be, but I liked the setup much better. More relaxing watching night TV. Plus Carolyn has put a lot of energy into the instructions (found in a folder) for running everything. We were very pleased. Especially my husband, which is saying a lot! Btw, if you miss a booking for the Doubtful Sounds, you can catch "Mike" at his water taxi close by to take you across the harbor to a lovely trek. Get there before 11am. His return is 3pm unless you book it otherwise.

    Kerry2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Super location—walking distance to Pearl Harbor. Clean, efficient and had everything we needed to enjoy our time in Manipouri. Carolyn was very helpful with giving tips for hikes and excursions.

    Kristen2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect space for exploring the lakes and fjords! Very comfortable and clean, wish we could come back.

    Brooke2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very handy and comfortable space if you need a place to stay before a Doubtful Sound trip. We were very glad to be in quiet Manapouri rather than busy Te Anau.

    Kathy2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to be in Manapouri, this is the best place to be. This little house has everything you need to be comfortable. Easy walk to the beautiful beach on Lake Manipouri, to the tour for .doubtful Sound and to local restaurants.

  • Pamela's place deserves all of the stars (way more than 5 for sure :) ). Pamela's hospitality is outstanding. She is very kind, makes you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Her house is big and sparkling clean. The breakfast provided is an actual breakfast (not just 1 slice of toast per person like we often see). Pamela and her mom are wonderful. I highly recommend to stay with them if you need to stop in Te Anau for a night or for longer :)

Tussock Hut.....This is a brand new purpose built cottage with all the facilities that one would want to relax and unwind at the end of a long day travelling around our beautiful countryside. An idyllic setting looking out over Te Anau township to Mount Luxmore, Fiordland National Parkand beyond with peeps of Lake Te Anau.
Tussock Hut is fully self-contained - it has a fully equipped kitchen as well as gas hob, oven fridge/freezer and washing machine, as well as own modern bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity with large mirror. The decor is soft and inviting. Views of Mount Luxmore, Fiordland National Park and beyond can be seen while sitting on the deck, or the sofa in the lounge and also from the bed. We have taken great care to ensure that our guest's stay here is relaxing and enjoyable. We do hope you you enjoy your stay here at Tussock Hut.
Our favourite cafe is approximately 150m along the road, at Alpine Cafe, they serve hot flat whites, Latte's or what ever your choice may be. They also make the most delicioius muffins. Town is a 10 minute walk away as well as the lake - 2 minutes in the car. Our town may be little but it packs in alot of things to do
  • We had a lovely stay! The hut was brand new and extremely clean, with all necessary facilities. Would recommend.

  • Tussock Hut was very comfortable, in a quiet spot on the edge of town. Very well thought out, plenty of space for two and good amenities. We loved the verandah and grass around which gave us a space to relax and read. Evan was very welcoming and communication was easy. Te Anau is a very special place.
