• We loved staying here. We walked between Magome and Tsumago in the day, it was fantastic. Our host gave us a great recommendation for sushi dinner that night. As a neat little bonus they let us play some tennis. This will be an amazing lifelong memory.

• I stayed with 7 people this time, but the room was large enough. There was a living room and a kitchen where everyone could sit and talk in addition to the bedroom, and there were tableware, so it was not a problem even if we stayed overnight. When I arrived in the room, there was a futon in the bedroom and I was able to rest comfortably. I would like to use it again.

He recommended a local sushi restaurant with a great chef, excellent food and reasonably priced. I could not expect better hospitality. The house was clean with all amenities and very comfortable. Check in and out was quick and easy. Not very far from the train station and near to a bus stop. I would definitely stay here again.

• I borrowed this house about an hour away for the purpose of paradise in the sky of Achi Village. The weather was so bad that I couldn't see the stars on the top of the mountain. There are plenty of facilities and I am satisfied!

Ryo2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
• It was very helpful to respond promptly to previous / immediate inquiries. In addition to having a space for BBQ and fireworks, we were able to enjoy karaoke and had a great time. As for the room, there are large baths and futons available for the number of people, and amenities are also perfect. Although it is difficult to go only by car in the location and the night is dark and the convenience store is a bit far away, I think that such a experience can only be done in the countryside. I could see the stars very beautifully and made fun memories with my peers for two days. Is it a local specialty at the end? Thank you so much for visiting Castella.

• Unfortunately, it was raining on the first day of the stay, but there were many things that could be enjoyed indoors, such as karaoke, mahjong, and card games. We are saved a little. It was a place rich in nature and there was a beautiful river nearby, so it was refreshing. I would like to use it again next time (* ˊ˘ˋ *). ♪: Thank you for * °.

• As you can see in the photo, there were lots of greenery. BBQ was right next to the kitchen, so it was smooth and very easy to get ready and get a drink! Supermarkets and convenience stores were just a short drive away, so there was no problem. (Although it is impossible to walk) I hunted grapes in the Nakatsu River and used them. If you are traveling in the Ena and Nakatsugawa areas, it is highly recommended.

Elodie2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
• This hostel is definitely the best one I've ever stayed. First, the location of the hostel is a bit far from the main street in Magome-Juku, only 5-10 mins walk, but it turns out that the hostel is a quiet and calm place to take a rest. The hostel was used to be an elementary school which was closed and renovated for hostel, so you can see many traces that makes feel kind of nostalgia. . They offer a ride to go to Onsen resort nearby and you can get a discount for admission. Also the staff know a lot about local souvenirs, how to visit some sightseeing spots, and so on.I purchased bottles of sake that one of them recommended, which was very nice. They also provide some breakfast for free in the morning, which is very helpful because there are few cafes and convenience stores that open early in the morning. I'd like stay at Gaku if I visit Magome-juku again.Highly recommended. The hostel that has stopped so far is the best hostel with both excellent service and cleanliness. It happened to be a corner cabin, so there was more private space than other guests, which helped me to change clothes and put things. Although it is a little off the streets of Mabuku-juku, it was within walking distance, and I was able to spend a quiet and calm atmosphere. The facility was renovated from an abandoned elementary school, so elementary school classrooms and corridors were left behind, and the wood-grained interior was very warm and relaxing. In the lounge, there were origami papers and coffee drinkers, making it easy for guests to communicate with each other and enjoyed conversations with foreign travelers. Many of the staff were friendly and sent me to a nearby hot spring or taught me some recommended sake. I would also like to stay if I visit Magome-juku again. I'm really thankful to you.

• Really good place to stay in Magome. When we arrived, we got given the option of booking dinner at this one restaurant (all other restaurants close at 6pm in Magome) and I'd really recommend it. It was probably one of the best dinners we had during our trip! Would stay again!

• The place located in the small village. Very nice and quiet location with all facilities you need. The staffs there are all friendly and good speaking in English. Wonderful guest house with lovely people!

• It was our first time in sleeping in capsule like beds. Comfy beds within a 10 or 12 person dorm. We were there in late October so it wasn’t overly busy with guests which made it nice and quiet. Huge kitchen area to cook your own meals and meet other guests. 7-8min walk into the Main Street into town. Highly recommend doing the magome-Tsumago hike. It took us around 3 hrs with plenty of stops along the way to take in the views. You can forward your luggage on at the bus stop for 1000yen per bag. As for the nightlife, there is completely nothing. Overall a lovely little town and probably only the one night night needed.

• This is frankly one of the best bed and breakfast my boyfriend and I have ever been to. The hosts will kindly answer all your questions, the space is big and clean, and the showers are amazing (yes, really haha). They also serve breakfast in the morning for free, which is great since it is a little far from the rest of Magome. I truly recommend this stay.

明治時代以前に建てられた築100 年以上の古⺠家。 快適さにこだわったリノベーションを施していますが、なるべく当時の雰囲気を残し田舎のおばあちゃん家を訪れたような懐かしい時代を感じれる宿になります It is an old tomb house that was built more than 100 years ago and was built before the Meiji period. Renovation is focused on comfort, as much as possible. Take a time slip in a nostalgic time like visiting a grandma's house in the countryside. Since it is a private house, you can enjoy it without worrying about the surroundings. You can use it with confidence with the manager presence.

Lovely and recent house in the middle of the paddy fields is waiting for you. You will share the space and have your own room under the roof (ladder access).
6 persons can stay in the small house, 2 in one room and 4 in an other one. The house is clean and very recent. Cool air conditioner available during summer and warm floor heating during winter. Large shower (like Italian shower). There is no bath.
Very quiet ward, you can have a superb view on the paddy fileds if you walk towards Mt. Mitsumori. Nice small shrines and old houses around. The old town of Iwamura (access by the Akechi Line, car or bike) is very well preserved and offer local dishes such Goeimochi, Kankaramochi, Castella, Lady of the Castle Sake, special Udon ... To go to Magome / Tsumago I recommend you to leave around 8 am. If you get all the trains and shuttle bus in time, it is about 1h20. Basically : iibama station -> (25-30min) Ena station -> (5 min) nakatsugawa station -> (25 min) shuttle bus to one of the villages Waiting time can be bothersome, so think about taking a book !

Sara2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
• In the middle of Japan's peaceful farm land, Keiko's place is a modern and very tidy home. Her amenities are great and her home gives an inner city vibe. If you have a car it is a close drive from this place to Tsumago-juku, which is amazing if you have the opportunity to visit. Keiko is a lovely host who made us feel very welcomed - we wish that we could have stayed for longer :)

Elvinne2019-04-29T00:00:00Z
• The place was lovely, clean and quite big! The kitchen was especially good, you could definitely cook if you had the time. The location is a little awkward to get to and from but you can definitely set yourself up here for the Tsumago/Magome hike. Also, Keiko was very generous, picking us up and dropping us off at stations and restaurants throughout our stay, so it wasn’t an issue for us. We did share the small guest house at the back of the main house with an English family for one night, which was a bit of a surprise. We felt we had to be quite quiet as there was a hole to the living/dining area in our bedroom/study wall. Apart from this though the place was very modern and comfortable. There are some amazing restaurants in the nearby town, Iwamura which we would highly recommend! Especially Izakaya! Awesome food and hospitality!

When I was inside, I was already warming up my room and I was impressed by the kind hospitality. I was able to sleep quietly until morning in a more comfortable space than I imagined. Thank you for the relaxing time in nature we are looking for. Also when I go to Shinshu area again, I would like to use it.

• This place is great and big, fantastic choice for people travelling by car. Upstairs it looks nice and traditional, overlooking a valley. Downstairs is big and inviting, even some nice board games. There's hardly any cars driving by, so super quiet as well. And for people wanting to walk the Nakasendo, it's the perfect choice!

Alexander2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
• It is a wonderful space with 2 stories. The kitchen was spacious and I could enjoy cooking with my friends. When you go outside, you can see the beautiful starry sky.

• Really great! Comfortable, quiet, full of stars at night, me and my friends all enjoyed very much.

• We were 2 couples and had a very comfortable stay. The house is outside of town but we were able to take taxis and or buses to and from. It is about 30 minute walk down to the station. Cooking facilities were ok but no instructions in English.

Kate2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
• Super quick to respond making my friends and I feel like we are in safe hands. Highly recommend Osamu as a host! Using taxis to get to and from here since the buses are limited is also doable with Osamu’s generous help. This is further from the station, giving you and your group complete privacy and the feeling of being out in the countryside. The home was very spacious and comfortable.

Jessica2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
• Really good and quick communication. The size of the house was excellent for two families walking the Magome trail. You do need a car.

Russell2019-09-23T00:00:00Z

• Their place is peaceful, calm, a bit out of the way, and totally worth it. If you happen to be in the Ena or Nakatsugawa area, I can't recommend it highly enough.

• A dome-shaped house with a beautiful location with air and starry sky. The ceiling was high, and the moment I entered, the tension increased. The room was very clean and there were enough facilities and amenities. I went to the next day when I stayed at the autumnal spot and sightseeing spot that I visited with the host's guidance. It was good to consult. Overall satisfaction was very high, and thanks to you, it was a good memory.

• Koda & Kero were fabulous hosts! Koda picked us up from the train station and offered to bring us to a restaurant for dinner as we hadn’t had time to eat, which we accepted! We really enjoyed his company and he happily answered all our questions about Japan and the surrounding area. The accommodation is amazing! Designed by Koda, it’s unlike anything we’ve stayed in before. They are focused on cleanliness and it shows! Breakfast was simple and very filling - great tasting fruit, yogurt, toast, jam, cheese and orange juice. When we booked, Koda had offered to drive us to Tsumago for our hike to Magome which was much appreciated! He and Kero even provided us with water and mineral/electrolyte tablets to help us in the 35 degree heat!! Highly recommend this place! All the stars!

• Been doing AirBNB for 5 years in many countries. This experience was #1 for us. Our host picked us up from the train. He took us to buy things and then drove down a historic road while pointing out landmarks and describing historic events in English. The home was amazing. A very unique place with plenty of extras. He dropped us off at a great Japanese restaurant and then picked us up 2 hours late. He had fruit, a kind of raisin bread, honey, cheese, yogurt, coffee, tea, milk, and orange juice in the kitchen for us. A lovely light breakfast. He took us to Tsumongo and we stopped at a canyon to take amazing photos on the way. What a lovely man and his wife was great too. These are the experiences you just can't get at a hotel. An experience that becomes part of the actual memory of your vacation.

• Koda and Kero are such kind-hearted hosts. They were so thoughtful and they made sure we would have a wonderful time during our short stay in their hometown. Koda went above and beyond to make sure we made the most of our trip to Ena, Tsumago and Magome. He even drove us around for a bit and showed us highlights of the city we would pass by. That was a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend staying here if you plan to do the Nakasendo trail. Kero’s vegetarian dinner was quite delicious as well. Thanks to Koda and Kero, we look forward to visiting Ena and the Nakasendo trail in the near future.

Bill2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
• It was an exceptional stay. The house was clean with all necessities provided for. What I really appreciated was Koda taking the time to bring us to the shop to buy umbrellas, to drive us to dinner, to drive us to the museum, and even give us a tour of the nakasendo road on the drive to magome. It was hospitality above and beyond what I had expected. Koda and Kero are so friendly and kind. I highly recommend staying here.

• Koda and Kero were outstanding hosts. Koda picked us up after we walked the Nakasendo trail from Magome to Tsumago (highly recommended) and drove us to his wonderful accommodation perched on a hill overlooking Ena. After making sure we were comfortable, he then drove us to a restaurant of our choice and then came and picked us up again. He also drove us to the station the next day, taking us along the Nakasendo trail for our interest. We had many questions in the lead up to our stay and Koda was very patient and answered everything quickly. He sent us maps and other information to make sure we wouldn't encounter any issues along the way. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our accommodation was an amazing egg shaped space made completely of wood. A narrow staircase leads to a mezzanine level where the sleeping futons were. A simple breakfast of yoghurt, fruit and toast was provided and Kero insisted on giving us snacks as we left to take on our forward journey. I can't speak highly enough of both Koda and Kero, their amazing hospitality and accommodation.

Welcome to Guesthouse Tomida! Lovely and recent house in the middle of the paddy fields is waiting for you. You will share the space and have your own room under the roof (stair access).
• A fashionable and clean guest house in a wonderful countryside setting. At the time of check-in, I was able to tell you the recommended places around. The room was very clean and quiet, so we took a rest until morning. I want to go again.

• Great place to stay, great bathroom and kitchen with supplies (shampoo, plates etc.) and pretty private space overall. A bit far from the station without a car, but you get to see the amazing nature when walking around. Host was very nice and also drove us to the station at check in and check out. Would definitely recommend this place!

• Because I participated in football tournament tournament at Fourteen Hills Country Club, I looked for if I could stay in the neighborhood, thank you for taking care of me here. More than I imagined, various things were prepared and I was able to spend without any inconvenience! I stayed for 3 days and I made friends all over Japan and abroad (lol) It is recommended for sightseeing such as Nakatsugawa, Ena, a wife's basket and so on!

• The house is very good for a maximum of 4 people. The kitchen, shower and toilet are phenomenal, as well as the living room. The environment is beautiful, surrounded by mountains, forest and rice fields. To go to Ena, you have to take a little train at the station of Iibama, which lasts 25 minutes. And it happens every hour. Keiko brings you to the train. In one hour you can be in Nakatsugawa for the Nakasendo route.

Julio Antonio2018-08-02T00:00:00Z
• Keiko is very welcoming. The accommodation is clean and in line with the announcement, the room and the bed are large. Tsumago and Magome are easily accessible by car.

• We had a wonderful stay! The house was spacious and has great access to the Nakasendo Trail. The host was very kind and quick to respond to messages. Delicious local coffee provided by the host was a great surprise. There were board games, a nintendo, a projector, a guitar, music CDs and player, plenty of dishes, toothbrushes just in case, and lots of manga in the home available for reading. We would definitely stay again.

• Very spacious, clean, comfortable, old Japanese house. If you have a car this is perfect. The host is extremely nice and responds quickly in English. With three rooms, a big kitchen and large bathroom (Hot-water flow is a bit slow) you can make yourself at home. A supermarket is one minute walk and this is a very quiet neighborhood. Once you have a car this house has easy access to Magome on your way to the trail. It might get chilly at nights so be well clothed. Mattresses and blankets are very good, washing machine is very good, kitchen is equipped, toilet is fine., check-in and access are fine though locating the house was not that easy. We definitely would choose this good house again.

Itzchak2019-10-29T00:00:00Z

• I was excited where the building was located in the peaceful scenery. You can taste extraordinary life with Moroccan exterior and interior with outstanding sense. We used this time with family, but were able to spend slowly. On the first floor, there are two showers, toilets and toilets, which are convenient. Uno and Othello were also prepared and the children were entertained. The pamphlet provided guidance on the purpose of our trip in an easy-to-understand manner, which was helpful. If you look at the night sky, the stars were so beautiful that you must see them! I was so relaxed that I could talk to the owner's family.

Amenity was firm and kitchen was unusable, but helped with dinner. Breakfast made rice balls and miso soup and provided a very warm service. There seems to be a plan with meals, so I thought it was a place I would recommend to my friends! Thank you very much!

• One of the most beautiful houses in Japan! We were 7 of us and rented the whole place for a night! It was a beautiful place with moroccan architecture and feel! The house design is so beautiful, that once inside, it feels nothing like Japan. Our host “Nami” was really kind & helpful and was very quick to respond to any of our inquiries. She guided us to a nearby Chinese restaurant which was quite authentic, delicious and cheap !! soup for us. Overall, it was an amazing experience and we'd love to go back there! Thank you very much Nami-san :) It was a very nice house. It was a cozy place where you can taste Moroccan style in Japan and have breakfast. I want to go again. Thank you, Nami.

Understanding Buddhism and Effective Meditation with meals. This Journey Includes: Daily meditation with highly experienced instructor. With Wisdom of Authentic Buddhism & Shintoism, heavenly world and Nippan world. Highly trained instructor is always guide you for essence part of Darma.
Very quite place, good place for learning the one of the highest wisdom. No need to share with other people, this space is just for you or your group.
This whole building is designed with the feng shui, geomancy. It is a good location for learning oriental spiritualism.
• Whether you're looking to hike the Nakasendo trail or visit the ruins of Iwamura, Koda & Kero's spot is a perfect place to stay. This lovely couple couldn't have been more accommodating with hospitality or information. From driving us to the trailhead in Magome to preparing an excellent vegan meal, Koda and Kero went above and beyond our expectations. Their spot is a 15-20 minute walk from the Ena station (though Koda will likely offer to pick you up/drive you back). The apartment is spacious, airy, and comfortable. We could not recommend this spot or these hosts more highly.

• For the review of the house, you can refer to the review in the general booking of this accommodation. All costs are included here like the meals, accommodation, traveling and also the fee for visiting shrine. If you are interested in either Buddhism, Shintoism or mediation, this trip must be very suitable for you. Koda knows a lot of them. He speaks English very well, even better than me, communication will not be the problem. He will also find the best way to teach you. Religion is totally not a problem too. Koda shew his respect on every religions. He taught a lot, but you will not feel the trip is boring. You may hear some interesting stories. Learnt much, I think I need to spend sometime to manage the note I dropped down. :) If you have any idea or question about religions, you can just share with Koda. He is easy going and willing to share, you may find the answer about religion or medication if you join this trip. Actually not only for religion or medication, as Koda is willing to tell, he also taught me the steps, the way for having Soba. My advise is don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. This trip gave me an invaluable experience.

Ichikawa Ryokan, managed by Sachiko the 16th generation of Ichikawa, is well located for people who want to enjoy traditional lodging and the Nakasendo Trail to Tsumago (about 7 h of walk from the ryokan). The ryokan is 5 min by walk from the station. This annonce is no meal (Attention!!)
Started 400 years ago by the Ichikawa family (still the owners) during the Edo period among several dozens of other ryokans there, this small and familial ryokan is one of the few still existing in Oijuku of Ena city. Well situated, it is a good break or starting point (depend if you walk before !) on the Nakasendo.
Not too far, there is the very nice Hiroshige Museum (ukiyoe woodblock prints).
• The ryokan was really nice and easy to find, people to work here were so good for hospitality and helpful. The place is good to go to Magome or Tsumago. The room was really clean and beautiful they had prepared a nice hot bath when we were arrived in the place. I totally recommended this ryokan. Thanks for all

• We had a wonderful stay at Ichikawa!! The people were so kind to our family throughout our stay. This is a beautiful ryokan, with thoughtful touches that truly make for a great experience. If you are staying in Ena we definitely recommend you stay here!!

• This is my first time to experience staying in a traditional ryokan when travelling to Japan. It was amazing! The place is historic and lovely, and the survive is really nice. I thought I would have sharing toilet and shower room, but actually I have my own one!! (Because normally for me I just take showers. There is also a nice big sharing bathroom in which you can experience traditional Japanese bath) The breakfast was not free but really delicious! Location is quite nice, only 5min from Ena Station. From Ena you can take a train straight to Nakatsukawa and then quickly to Magome. Beyond my expectation. ありがとうございました!

• My family of 4 with a 13 and 11 yo had the most wonderful stay hosted by Sachiko and her team of lovely ladies. The inn was steeped in history run by Sachiko’s family for 16 generations. Our room was spacious and our futon beds were made ready of us. Afternoon tea was also prepared and waiting for our arrival. We had a court yard Japanese garden attached to our room. We booked a dinner. It’s was an amazing feast. Sachiko gave us tips on the local areas and sights to visit. Truly the highlight of our trip. Thank you Sachiko and your team. Wonderful to meet your mother and grandmother.

• This ryokan is amazing! Has been my best stay in Japan, all staff at the ryokan are so lovely, it is very traditional. The private room is more like your own place just with easier check in and better hospitality! The room was super spacious, had exactly what you want after a big hike! Tea, teapot, snack and a beautiful view of the garden! I highly reccomend staying here, the onsen bath was amazing as well and I would like to thank my host and all the staff for being amazing! I would definitely stay here again and am sad I only had one night in Kiso.

• We had a fantastic stay at Ichikawa! Our room was exactly what we were looking for from a traditional ryokan. In addition, Sachiko, the current inn-keeper, and her staff put together one of the best dinners we had during our trip to Japan. Overall, a great stay!

• We loved our stay in Ena with Shige. The house is warm (it was cold outside) and the beds so comfortable. It was great to use the tennis club to sit by the fire and read and chat. Shige is a true super host. He picked us up from the train station and the next day, he had the day off, he drove us around. We visited the castle ruins and places in Ena. And then, he helped us organise our luggage transfer as we were heading off on a hike of the Nakasendo. Thanks Shige, you are a star

• This guesthouse was a beautiful traditional house, newly renovated, and absolutely clean. The host 'Toki-Toki' was amazing, she was really hospitable and caring and loved a good chat. Hiro, who runs the bookings, was incredible. He took us out on the Sunday and gave us complementary Sake brewery entry and lunch, and showed us around some of the local areas. The people who live in this town are the most amazing and kind people, which really added to the atmosphere. You should go to Iwamura on a Sunday when they have events at the Sake brewery, it's very lively and wholesome -- in off-season the main town is very quiet and serene, so if you're looking for somewhere to chill and take a small hike to a cool castle, I really recommend this guesthouse and this town.

Abbie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
• Both the room and the shower room are very beautiful. The kitchen also has plenty of seasonings, so if you buy the ingredients you can cook. I would like to use it again.

• We drove through the mountains and arrived in the town late in the evening darkness. The GPS took us to the wrong place and I sent a google maps screen shot of our location to the host and he immediately drove down about 10 minutes to meet us. We followed him into town and to the guest house. The place itself is really great and authentic Japanese guesthouse experience with paper sliding door, tatami mats, lots of fresh pine wood and cozy atmosphere. The town itself is really quaint and small. We enjoyed just slowly walking around and tasting and exploring. There weren't any other tourists while we were there and it really feels you are in a real town. Go for it.

• Exceptionally helpful and friendly hosts, sparkling clean place, and charming location. You really get the feeling of living in small town Japan. It's not as close to Tsumago and Magome as we had thought, but rail connectivity is very good. Also, towels were not available when we were there, so maybe double check with the host about this before you go!

Guesthouse Tomida is convenient modern small house, you will enjoy the Japanese countryside (said to be the best countryside scenery), close to the Japanese Alps, the Nakasendo and Iwamura Castle. Ski resorts, onsens, hiking and rock climbing spots too.
6 persons can stay in the small house. Cool air conditioner available during summer and warm floor heating during winter. Large shower (like Italian shower). There is no bath. * each room can be rent separately, see the other offers on airbnb.
Very quiet ward, you can have a superb view on the paddy fields if you walk towards Mt.
• I just slept this time, but there was a space where I could cook, so I wanted to make breakfast if I had time! We were able to spend enough even if we stayed with 6 adults.

• This is a great place to stay if you are visiting the area. The nearby Edo-style village was wonderful. We had a great time exploring the area and hanging out with the locals in a "downtown" bar. Everyone was lovely and helpful, especially our host Keiko!

David2019-05-24T00:00:00Z
• Keiko is a sweet and understanding lady. Her place is very stylish and cosy . It is a place for people who grow up in urban city to experience what rural life is like. The only con is that it is too far from the main road. It is good to have a car.

Jo2019-02-04T00:00:00Z

• We gently corresponded. The room was very nice and beautiful. On the second day I went to a nearby coffee shop to have breakfast. I could not get back in the rain where I ate it, but keiko brought everyone's umbrella. I was impressed and able to have good memories. Thank you very much.

• I stayed here 2 nights, because I was going to walk a part of the Nakasendo trail. For that, the location is absolutely perfect. The building is a mix between traditional and modern style and looks absolutely stunning. It was also very clean. Very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here and wild absolutely come back myself if I need to be close to Nakatsugawa.

• We had a great stay at Matsushita's project. There is café where you can get breakfast, lunch and all sorts of drinks, a working space, a lovely pond with fish all designed beautifully in wood. It's on walking distance from Nakatsugawa station. Nakatsugawa in itself is not that interesting, but you're close to the Nakasendo-trail (you can take a bus to Magome), there's the Naegi castleruins you can visit and when the weather's good you can take a taxi to climb Mount Ena. Iwamura is not that far off either if you take the train, nice traditional village to spend the afternoon.

• Favorite stay so far after 14 days in Japan. A beautiful traditional Ryokan run by the same family since the 1500s on the Nakasendo trail (country road between Tokyo and Kyoto). The 16th generation inn keeper hosted us. An extremely authentic experience full of Japanese traditions: personal yukatans and slippers in each room, tatami mats, bathroom slippers, fishy breakfasts, delish dinners in our room, quiet countryside walks and very little to no English spoken.

Cristina2018-11-25T00:00:00Z
• Lovely Ryokan fairly close to Ena train station and thus Nakasendo trail. Hospitality was great, and breakfast excellent. Be aware that no English is spoken, but that is part of the fun.

Sarah2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
• Beautiful place to come back to after walking during the day. Our lovely host recommended two great restaurants in Ena for dinner which we loved.

Rozanna2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
• Lovely stay and true hostmenship from the heart. If you want to experience Japanese culture, prefer the warm welcome of a family runned accomodation and/or have an addiction for excellent food, this ryokan is the place to go! Easy access by train (close to the station). It’s not directly near Magome/Tsumago, but you can go there by train and bus. The staff will help you with all your travel doubts with a big smile and their best English. Make a reservation for at least one breakfast and/or dinner. You won’t be dissappointed!

• Great overall experience, cute little sleepy town, clean room and nice people. Hiromitsu is an amazing host. He brought us to magome for the walking trail, but also a ride to Ena station the next day, but first he took us to a viewpoint of the town. Also he gave us a free cake from his wife’s bakery and sweets for on the way! Arigato!!

• Staying with Hiromitsu and Shysue was the best experience we had in Japan. They are exceptional persons with great hospitality. House was spotlessly clean and had some amazing toilets (heated seats) The English worded map available was so much better than what is available at Information centre and was easy to navigate. This is a great place to stay to do day walk on the Nakasendo trail. Can highly recommend this lovely Guesthouse.

• Very pleasant stay Nice atmosphere, common room to meet other guests, neighborhood atmosphere in the bar that is animated (no discomfort) Super comfortable beds Atypical place: traditional house renovated hostel, very beautiful place with the stamp and a special atmosphere, it feels good! Absolutely go eat at izakaya "iramastsou" (name in Japanese - ask the host who recommended this place), which remains our most beautiful culinary and social experience in 4 weeks in Japan :)

• The cityscape of Nakasendo is located in a very nice place, and the accommodations and the cafe that is attached to it have a nostalgic atmosphere, but the amenities are new, clean and comfortable. The interaction with the owner was also very smooth.

This announce contains Breakfast and Dinner !
• For vegans and vegetarians traveling in Japan, Ichikawa Ryokan is a must-see. I was inspired by Sachiko, the current (and 16th generation!) innkeeper who explained to me the thought process behind her incredible vegan multi-course menu: combining local ingredients, sustainable farming, healthy eating and traditional Japanese culinary style. I maybe felt the warmest when I emerged from my nighttime bath to hear the staff - all women, including three generations of Sachiko's family - laughing and eating together. Ichikawa is an amazing example of a traditional place made vibrant by innovative thinking, and I can't recommend it enough!

• We really enjoyed our stay here. The hosts were extremely friendly and communicated well, despite us understanding very little Japanese. Using the onsen after a long journey was very relaxing and the dinner and breakfast we had were very tasty. The dinner was quite expensive but was worth it as the food and service were of high quality. Overall, our stay was an incredible experience in a traditional Riyokan.

Ben2019-05-25T00:00:00Z
• This was the highlight of our visit to Japan. The ryokan was beautiful, the room spacious and well presented, and the futons comfortable. The meals provided were fantastic and the innkeeper and staff were all polite, friendly and helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again on a return to Japan.

• Great place to stay, Japanese rooms and amazing meals, very little English spoken by staff

Nicola2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
• Fabulous place to stay for a very authentic Japanese experience. Yuka & her family are gracious hosts, the amenities are extremely comfortable & food exceptional. Have the dinner, it is amazing!

Cathy2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
• We loved our stay at this family-run ryokan. We loved the dinner and breakfast and the extremely comfortable tatami-floored rooms! We were particularly delighted by the bath, where my husband and I were allowed to bathe together. It was a very unique experience for us and the water was of a perfect temperature. My advice to future visitors is to coordinate your arrival time in advance (and be accurate). We sent a message to change our time the day of but since AirBnB books through a third party in town (to help with English translation) our message was not received and we surprised our hosts by arriving early.

Ursula2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
• What a wonderful stop on our walk along the Nakasendo Trail. Everything was spotlessly clean. The hostess was charming. The food was lovely. Highly recommended!

• We had a great Ryokan experience staying here. The room, the garden, the service and the food were superb. Though it is a little pricy, we could feel that it was an authentic ryokan experience and great care has been given to all details. The food was really really good, both dinner and breakfast. We were also greeted by three generations of Inn keeper during dinner. Our room was looking out to a nice Japanese garden and we had a private dining room!

• Very clean and comfortable. The host's response was also friendly, and I was able to enjoy watching the TV with other guests, and I am very happy. As it is in the middle of the old town of Iwamura, atmosphere is excellent.

• Staying at Hiromitsu's guesthouse in the pictoresque village of Iwamura is a once in a lifetime experience! The guesthouse is located in a small street right next to the main road of the village and is very clean. Hiromitsu and his family are lovely people. He came to pick me up from the Ena station with a Japanese delicacy. He organised for me an excursion the next day to Mt. Mitsumori and the Iwamura castle which I fully recommend. The woman who helps Hiromitsu run the guesthouse brought me by car to the supermarket and showed me around. If you have the time, make it to Iwamura and stay at Hiromitsu's place. It is a memory you will keep forever.

• In all of my years of traveling, this is in my top 3 places I have ever stayed. The space itself is lovely, the town is lovely, but it's really the people who run this guesthouse who make it special. They are so warm and welcoming, and go above and beyond in every regard. Highly, highly recommend to any kind of traveler looking for an amazing experience!

Austen2018-04-10T00:00:00Z
• The place is great and the location is very central, right in the heart of the very historic town of Iwamura which is a very scenic 19min train ride from Ena... about one train an hour on weekends I think. The staff were very kind and helpful and went out of their way to help us and even show us around their town. We were lucky to be there for the Hina Matsuri festival in March and the towns people opened up their homes to the public. It’s a wonderful little place ... very special. And the walk to the castle ruins is only about 30 mins and quite scenic. The Guesthouse has a kitchen which guests can use.

• We had such a great stay at Hiromitsu! He and the other staff were just so nice and helpful! They gave us lots of valuable information around the area, showed us around in Iwamuraso and gave us a ride to and from the train station and also to Magome which we wanted to see! We felt like we were visiting family because everyone was just so nice! I would definitely recommend it and hope to be able to come again!!

• I had a great trip in Iwamura, the host and his family is very friendly and kind, this is the best place ever. They took me to local restaurant for Udon noodle, host also took me to Magome by his car, gave me present, show me how to get thru my next destination. Definitely recommend everyone staying here, Iwamura is also the nice and peaceful town to explore. Thanks again for caring me Hiromitsu san, hope to see u and ur family soon. :)

• My Stay at Hiromitsu Sans Guest House and in the wonderful town of Iwamura was more that I had hoped for. I was looking for nature, calmness and an escape from the big smoke and that is exactly what I got and more. The Guest house was welcoming, beautifully renovated and very clean. I was made to feel at home from the get go. The town of Imamura is also welcoming, beautiful and to me very magical and spiritual. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a piece of traditional Japan without the hoards of tourists.

• We had a perfect experience at Mika’s place. Mika is super friendly and helpful and quick to respond to any needs. The place is lovely and ideally situated right on the main road through Magome. We had a great time enjoying the tranquil view from the beautiful common space in the mornings and after a long day of hiking. Quick tip with regards to Magome: very limited shopping/eating options after about 4 pm (although Mika was happy to help make a reservation at one of the few options available). We bought some ingredients/quick-to-prepare meals from the grocery store at the bottom of the main road in Magome and would recommend this to future travelers too. The small kitchen is well equipped with plenty of tableware to prepare some noodles or gyoza in the evening after a lovely day in the mountains. Overall, perfect experience, and I would recommend to anyone to stay at Mika’s place!

• Really lovely place to stay at in Magome-juku! The house itself is conveniently located beside the main thoroughfare in Magome-juku, and because of the big window in the dining area, it’s also quite easy to find at night when the rest of the town isn’t strongly lit. The house is very clean and pretty, and there’s information at the entrance desk for travellers intent on hiking the Nakasendo trail to Tsumago-juku. Mika was very nice and helpful, and really responsive to messages.

• We loved our stay in the castle town Iwamura. It is a really nice town and the accommodation is also really nice. We had a private room and slept on futons, which were quite comfortable. It was really hot though (35 degrees) and only airco in the hallway, but there were fans blowing everywhere, so we were able to sleep. You have to realize that the doors are made out of papier, so you can hear everything, but that was no problem for us. The hospitality was superb. We loved our two hosts, or as our son called them our new friends. Even though it was difficult to communicate in english, we got by using our hands and Google Translate. We enjoyed our evenings with them in the loungeroom.

• A very clean place with wonderful staff. Although there is no air conditioner in the room, the temperature is not bad with plenty of fans and an air conditioner downstairs. I can’t say enough how much we appreciate Hiromitsu and his staff’s generous help during our stay. They drove us to the grocery store, dining place, pharmacy, train station, and Hiromitsu even drove us to Magome, which is almost one hour away from the lodging. Not only helping out the transportation, they also care about the guests. When the staff noticed that my daughter had a pretty bad cut from the hiking, she took me to the pharmacy for a more suitable bandage. Hiromitsu also threw a big party for all the guests to get together. An amazing and generous host indeed.

The room and the public space were also very beautiful and it was a nice house. I want to go again! Her cheerful personality made our stay more enjoyable and relaxed. The breakfast she served was tasteful, right amount and very timely. We thank Mika for her great hospitality and we will definitely revisit her when we come to Magome again. Thank you!!

Thanks again Mika for your kindness and your welcome! Good continuation !

The tiny Red Guesthouse Tomida is ready to welcome you in the middle of the paddy fields ! The village of Iwamura is about 20 min by walk, iibama station is about 20-25 min by walk but we can pick you there (5 min by car). Check the other listings of our guesthouse to get a view of the surroundings !
The Red little house of Guesthouse Tomida is recent. Cool air conditioner available during summer and electrical warm floor heating during winter. A washing machine is available in the bathroom, equipped with a shower unit. (no bath) Behind the house you can enjoy BBQ - extra fees.
• A friendly and friendly owner. I talked until midnight and played board games. I also thought about sightseeing routes together. I cooked pasta and gratin for dinner, but the food is so good that I think it can be served at the restaurant. I encourage you to talk and interact with each other without hesitation! He is really kind.
