  • Simple, but very warm and cosy place to stay. Kitchen is small, but can manage to cook up an evening meal easily enough. Felt like a little home away from home. Easy walk to the pub :)

  • A great cosy place, ideal for exploring the island.

    Rebecca2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • I honestly cannot fault the Storm Pod in any way. I stayed there for a week, and it was a superb base for solo exploration on South Uist. Kathryn and Jeff were wonderful hosts: polite, knowledgeable, and all-round great folks. The pod was spotlessly clean, with all the amenities you could want for food prep. There's even a small radio/audio player in the corner. Walk just a few hundred metres from the pod, and you'll find yourself on one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. Absolutely, 100% highly recommended in every regard.

  • The Stormpod is a wee little cabin with all the amenities you'll ever need for a comfortable stay. It's comfortable, warm, pretty, clean and situated 5 minutes to the 20-mile beach in South Uist. Nights are really dark, and we were able to see the Milky Way from our pod. The Stormpod is also really close to the ferry, shops in Daliburgh (don't worry the Coop closes at 10 pm!) and the amazing chippy shop (Burnside chippy). We had the most amazing time in Kathryn's place, it was a really comfortable and special place to stay.

  • Super clean quiet and just lovely space. Ideal to recharge your batteries, walk and have a very relaxing time. Just perfect.

The Boathouse is a bright, yet cosy little retreat to spend some time relaxing! Here at the boathouse you will be spoilt with the stunning views looking onto the Loch where you will frequently see the delightful wildlife. Situated in the heart of Daliburgh, you will find all essential amenities nearby. The local shop and pub/restaurant are all within a couple of minutes walking distance. Not to mention the famous old Tom Morris golf course is 2 miles from the property, where you will find a lovely little clubhouse to enjoy some food or beverages. Our boathouse is perfect for couples, tastefully decorated with a nautical theme throughout. You will find everything you need at our property and should you require any special requests, birthday celebrations, engagement, etc then we will be more than happy to help.
Close to all local amenities, yet peaceful and relaxing. Perfect place to watch the world go by.
  • The Boathouse is exactly as described in the website and is perfect for couples or a single traveller. I used it for a work trip it was perfect allowing me to return to my own space rather than a hotel room or bar. Very close to the local coop so ideal for getting provisions in.

    Fiona2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • A superb annex to the family house, the windows overlook the loch, good parking and next to a fairly large Co op so you can shop when you arrive. Amanda is lovely and very helpful, I was left a bottle of wine and scones, as well as tea bags, coffee etc. Very comfortable double bed and good shower. Heating is under your control. A lot of thought and effort has gone into this very comfortable and peaceful accommodation, I could not believe the number of boat / nautical things that Amanda has found for the cottage. Highly recommend and hope to return.

  • Wonderful place to stay!

    Sue2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Located in the pretty village of Daliburgh, Amanda’s nest is cosy and feels like home, with views on the loch and next door to a coop! We had an amazing time in the house, it warm, well equipped and so comfortable! Amanda will welcome you with homemade scones. We will recommend it to everyone and will be back!

  • Great little place to stay. Lorna was a great helpful host. This for us was a one night stop over on the way to the early ferry which Lorna accommodated no problem. Very comfy beds and warm rooms

    Ruth2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lorna was really friendly and her house is great for people exploring the local area

    Yiorgos2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lorna’s Place is directly opposite the Kilvare B&B. The house has the name sign ‘The Shieling’. Lots of space to park. Very close to the amazing causeway onto the very stunning little island of Eriskay. Burnside petrol station & - yes! -combined chip shop just minutes away opposite a licensed CoOp and the Borrodale Hotel which does very good food. You may need to book if it’s busy. Lorna very kindly gave us their number. We didn’t have breakfast at Lorna’s as we were on the 6.20am ferry. You will need your own shampoo, conditioner & shower gel but towels are provided & Lorna gave me a hair dryer & even a pair of straighteners! I can easily highly recommend!

  • So far one of the best I have stayed. Due to my work I like to stay away from hotels but I do expect the cleanliness and smart touches as in hotel rooms and this ticked all the boxes. And Sarah been so attentive and friendly. Tip re the beach was very nice idea. Track to beach is excellent way to test your vehicle off road capability and I loved that drive. I will highly recommend this place to couples or small family. And floors been heated and there was Tea, coffee making facilities (even milk and some supplies in the fridge) and for us there was nothing more to ask.

  • Sarah’s glamping pod is so cosy and personal it’s like a little home away from home. Sarah set us up with food and drinks and gave us some tips on what to do in the area. We loved it. The scenery and stars at night are incredible!

    Nicola2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We LOVED our stay. Great host with great local recommendations; you must walk down to the local beach, golden sands & no one else there! Also great for beach combing. Sarah gave us fresh eggs for breakfast which were so yummy & the facilities in the pod were fantastic - there’s even a cheese toastie maker!!! Underfloor heating a god send and very popular with the doggies. Great space and perfect for adventures on Uist. Would very much recommend. We’ll be back!!

This croft house is set in a spectacular location, corncrake are often seen around the croft. Located 15 minutes walk from beautiful Bosidale Machair. The cottage is newly refurbished and we pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the cottage.
I would recommemend Kilbride cafe for teas, coffees and snacks. Located enroute to Eriskay ferry terminal. Kildonan Museum is good for gaining local information and arts and crafts. There is also a gift shop open on Lochboisdale pier which wil also sell local crafts. Eating out Polochar Inn and Borrodale hotel provide lovely meals. There is a fish & chip shop in Daliburgh. Groceries Daliburgh Coop and Eriskay Shop. Beaches to visit Boisdale, Eriskay and Daliburgh.
  • Perfect accommodation in a lovely location.

We absolutely loved coming back here after a days sightseeing, it was so cosy and homely and such a fab spot to see short eared owls and harriers hunting in the morning and evening. Brand new for 2020, this chalet is a luxury hideaway in the heart of South Uist. The chalet is set in a stunning location, nestled snugly amongst the hills of Locheynort on the shoreline of a breath-takingly beautiful bay. The chalet is ideal for a peaceful, relaxing holiday and is also an excellent spot from which to explore the neighbouring islands, either by car across causeways or by taking ferry journeys to Barra in the south or Harris/Lewis in the north.
The chalet is spacious (12 ft wide) and luxurious, designed by top manufacturer ABI Holiday Homes UK Ltd (Model = Windermere), and is fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It has a beautifully appointed Shaker style kitchen which includes gas oven and hob, integrated fridge-freezer, washing machine, and microwave. The living area has free-standing domestic style sofas, with an electric fire to complete the cosy atmosphere. The lounge also has Freesat TV. The dining area is equipped with a modern free-standing dining table and 4 chairs. In addition to the chalet’s regular toilet/shower-room, the master bedroom is equipped with an en-suite toilet/shower-room. All towels and bedding are supplied.
The chalet is located in an area which abounds in wild life, and curious seals are regular visitors. Otters and eagles are also amongst the other wildlife often frequenting this area. You may also catch a glimpse of a majestic stag as the sun goes down. Fresh eggs and shellfish (lobsters, crabs and langoustines) will usually be available to purchase.

The cottage sits at the southern tip of South Uist in the Western Isles. The cottage is located on the edge of the moor, yet only 1 mile from the white sands of the machair with excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Barra. You’ll love my place because of the peace & tranquility, the people, the ambiance, the outdoors space, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
  • We had a wonderful two week holiday, this is a lovely cottage, spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean. The views from the cottage are beautiful, it’s a very quiet and peaceful spot. There is a lovely beach at the bottom of the lane, about a mile away and many more within 10 minutes drive. The beaches are wonderful, white sand, turquoise water and mostly deserted. The local amenities are good, a CoOp shop and some lovely cafes for lunch, all within a short drive. This is a great base for exploring the area.

    Lucy2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, incredible views and very spacious

  • Our second stay in this lovely wee cottage. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the views are spectacular in every direction. The house is within walking distance of a beautiful beach at Garrynamonie. We’re already planning our next visit!

    Marie2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved it so much last year that we came back and had another wonderful holiday in one of our favourite places in the whole world! And I am sure we will be back again. The views are amazing, the colours so rich, our dogs love the beaches. More please...

    Sue2019-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved this cottage on our favourite island. It had everything we needed and was convenient for local shops and the pub. Our dogs had a great time on the beaches. The views and the wildlife were amazing. Every day we heard 'where are my binoculars?' and one day sheep filled our garden! We shall return.

    Sue2018-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable and cosy house with everything you need on your holiday. Super shower, freeview tv channels (not that you need it, just look out the window at the views!) For bird watchers, it's ideal. The field in front of the house is the regular hunting ground of a short eared owl and theres any number of shore birds along at Garrynamonie beach. A short walk will take you to Polochar, where you can watch porpoises skimming past!

    Marie2018-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very clean, comfortable, cosy home from home holiday bungalow. When the weather came in ( as you expect in this part of the world!!) we were still very comfortable and warm. However we had lots of sun and loved the bird life (we watched an owl hunting in the fields around the house), the beautiful flora and miles and miles of glorious walking along spectacular beaches. It was probably one of the most relaxing holidays we have had. Add to that exciting trout fishing in the many lochs. What could be better!!

    Gillian2018-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • The view of the southern islands from the house is simply glorious. We cycled easily from here down to Eriskay and then the ferry to Barra and Vatersay. It was such an interesting, well equipped and comfortable place to stay, particularly in bad weather! Nobody will come away disappointed.

  • Colin's place is the perfect base for a stay in South Uist. Lots of space, enclosed garden and a great location. Lovely views all around and easy walk to Coop & Borrodale. Never far from a beautiful beach in South Uist.

    Nicola2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay on the island, loads of space in the quiet house that has all the amenities you need - and amazing bedroom views! Some basic food items and lots of toiletries were provided, which was quite helpful. Colin checked in with us a few times over the course of our stay, and communication in general went very smoothly. If you are coming without a car, you are in walking distance from the supermarket, the community hall and Dalabrog School as well as the machair/beach, and the post office is right next door. I would definitely come back and really enjoyed being there.

A luxury one bedroom cottage with all modern facilities, Sky TV, Wi Fi, DVD player, Induction hob, washer dryer, electric heating and bath tub. A traditional thatched cottage with a tasteful modern interior. Perfect for couples or lone travellers, only a 5 minute drive from the beach, 5-10 minute drive to shop and hotel restaurants/cafes. Once occupied by the writer and photographer Margaret Fay Shaw.
The cottage is a traditional thatched cottage rebuilt three years ago. It is nestled in the glen of North Glendale with panoramic views of the glen abd neighbouring township of South Lochboisdale. You can also watch the ferry arrive in to Lochboisdale from the bench outside while also watching eagles circling in the sky. The cottage is situated on a working croft where Cheviot and black face sheep graze in the fields below the cottage. At night you can view the northern lights from October to March and in the summer you can enjoy late night sunsets and the sounds of wildlife. You will sleep like a log as the stone walls are deep and there is no light pollution in the sky.
We are a 15-20 minute drive from 3 hotels which have a bar abd restaurant available. We are a 20 minute drive from Lochboisdale ferry terminal, and 30 minutes from the airport. We are a 10 minute drive from the local supermarket and a 10 minute drive from the nearest beach.
  • We highly recommend this beautiful croft cottage with stunning views, the amenities are superb and we felt very relaxed as soon as we drove up to the cottage and made our holiday extra special.

    Nicola2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location were beautiful and provided a peaceful and convenient base from which to explore the southern end of the Outer Hebrides. The croft was warm, cosy and well equipped. The host had provided lots of little extras that made our stay even more memorable. There was lots of information about the area and we loved reading about the history of the croft and life in South Uist. Overall a great place to stay and we certainly hope to return to one day.

    Diane2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • A really charming traditional cottage with thatched roof, in a peaceful setting with all the modern comforts you could need inside. We had a lovely stay and the hosts were very helpful and responsive. The welcome goodies were an unexpected treat.

  • A beautiful croft ideally situated to explore the Uists and the fabulous Isles of Eriskay and Barra. Only 20 minutes from the ferry terminal of Lochboisdale too. The croft has everything you will need and fabulously stylish, outstandingly clean. The croft itself is just amazing.....thatched roof, authentically restored and a beautiful red front door - duck to get in though lol. We just loved this place and host Maria was on hand for any help or support and lots of local knowledge about where to go and what to do. A visit to the Politician pub on Eriskay is a must. Feel so privilaged to have been able to stay there....we'll be back❤️

    Ann2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful relaxing stay in the restored Croft. So quiet with no noise etc except the wind on occasions. Everything spot on & couldn’t fault anything. So picturesque overlooking the inlet. Even the midges stayed away for the most part! Maria very helpful with local knowledge & with anything I wanted to know. Thank you once again & certainly a place I would visit again.

  • A warm and welcoming caravan, equipped for cooking and cosy even in the midsts of winter and Atlantic gales. Comes free with a cat (should you wish) and a very warm welcome from the host.

    Ben2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Even though we had only read good reviews, and were a bit wondering what a stay in a caravan would be like, it exceeded our expectations! Extremely cosy and very well equipped, ideally located by the Loch with superb views... Everything is spotless, looks new and the whole place is well thought of. We wish we could have stayed there a lot longer! Probably one of our best experiences of our Scottish trip! Can’t recommend enough!

  • Very special place, so peaceful and so good for nature watching. Lovely sunsets and scenery. Would recommend.

    Phil2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We needed a place to stay on South Uist we were not looking for anything special but found Donald’s caravan on the Croft. It was a beautiful little caravan with extras that made it that more special. We arrived after dark and had to get an early ferry back to skye so we did not get to enjoy the views or the caravan to it’s full extent! But we will be back! Sad we couldn’t stay longer! Highly recommend this place! If we would have known you could get takeaways here we wouldn’t have stopped for food on the way so that is my only suggestion!

    Rachael2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I have just spent three days staying in Donald’s caravan and wish I could stay for longer. It has everything you could possibly need for a quiet break away from it all - from the simple and easy breakfast options, comfy bed and super hot shower to incredible stargazing out on the veranda. It was the perfect place to base ourselves to see the beautiful outer Hebrides with lots of walking opportunities right on the doorstep. Would highly recommend and would happily visit again.

    James2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place! Stunning setting in the middle of South Uist, with beautiful views all around the caravan. The caravan is extremely well equipped, with everything you could need. It’s also really comfortable, we had a great night’s stay. I’d highly recommend staying here.

  • Angus’s place is a very nice place to stay. We would recommend it as a great place to stay . It is just a couple of blocks from Lochboisdale ferry.

    Sharon2019-09-25T00:00:00Z

  • Great accommodation and friendly host, would highly recommend

    Joseph2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Angus’s house and I would stay again. It is clean and tidy with a washing machine and outside washing line for laundry. The house has everything you need for cooking, although we ate out most evenings. Lochboisdale hotel is a 5 min walk from the house and serves good food. Polochar hotel and Borrodale hotel also within short driving distances, also with good menus and quality food. Views from the house are lovely as an added bonus. This house is excellent value for money.

    Elma2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice stay, everything is there what you need and the House has a lot space!

    Esther2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Spotless & homely, everything was provided for everyday living .

    Caroline2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • The house is very handy for the ferry from Mallaig and is quite spacious with a well-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and living room. Angus was working on the ferry on which we crossed and made contact with us there, then came up to the house to chat after we had unpacked, giving us information about the islands. There is a nice view from the front of the house and the scenery in Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist is quite unique with the Machair (flat sandy landscape) in the west and areas that are riddled with small lochs covering large sections in the centre and east. There are no shops in the village but a large well-stocked Co-op supermarket is only four of five kilometres away. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the islands and recommend Angus's house as a base to explore them.

    Doug2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • A great little base for exploring the island - handy for the cafe and the port, on the bus route and a great sized house with all facilities. Angus was very helpful! Would recommend!

Machair View was renovated 6 years ago and is situated on a working croft. The house overlooks South Uist's world renowned Machair with an abundance of varied Flora and Fauna on the doorstep, notably the rare corncrake and wild Machair flowers. It is only a short walk to the beautiful sandy beaches which run the length of South Uist's west coast.
  • Wonderful, comfortable cottage in a beautiful location. Highly recommended.

    James2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A five star cottage. Clean and beautifully presented, has all amenities you could possibly need. Excellent quick communication from Marina. South Uist is a relaxing and pretty place. We had super trips around the islands crossing numerous causeways and took the ferry to Barra for the day. We saw semi wild ponies, gold and sea eagles in the hills. There are deserted white beaches, turquoise sea, and the lovely Machair full of wild flowers just a 3 minute drive (15-20 minute walk) from the cottage, truly breathtaking! Thank you again for our stay.

    Lucy2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Machair View is a well laid out house after complete updating from an old croft house. Warm and cosy for our late arrival off the ferry at Lochboisdale. Everything we needed for our week's stay was available in the house from guide books to extra towels to superb laundry room. Views facing west to the sea and a short walk to the beautiful white beaches. Fabulous in any weather. Island shops have all the fresh &frozen food choices like on the mainland and there is so much to do and see on Uist. Well worth a visit and you'd be really hard pushed to find a better place to stay.

Our Juliette balcony in our upstairs living room is the perfect place to relax, unwind and admire the beautiful view of Beinn Mhor and Loch Eynort. It provides the ideal place for spotting our local wildlife such as otters, golden eagles, white tailed sea eagles, seals and red deer. Just sit back and watch the tide rise and fall.
The Stone House was originally a thatched house and it has been lovingly renovated over the years. A previous owner increased the height of the walls by bringing in stones by boat which he had collected from the shore. The open plan living room with a stove and kitchen are on the first floor. We have one standard double room and a second small double room on the ground floor along with the bathroom. Outside in the garage is a separate toilet and shower for cleaning any outdoor gear. We have ample storage for bikes in the garage.
Loch Eynort is ideally situated in a central location between both the East and West side of the island. This allows access to the rugged East coast and the stunning beaches and Machair of the West coast. Just a mile along the road, to the North end of Loch Eynort are a few wee trails, ideal for walking and spotting an abundance of wildlife such as red deer, otters, seals and eagles. If you head in the opposite direction, a mile west of the house you come to South Uist machair and its beautiful beaches. Perhaps, hop on one of our bikes and head to the beach for the day or explore the single track back roads of the middle district. Take in the culture and watch the traditional crofting techniques still used in Uist today. This area has more Gaelic speakers then anywhere else in the world.
  • Outstanding property and host. Just stay there, you won’t regret it.

    Helen2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Stone House is a lovely place and we thoroughly recommend it. Very clean and and tidy, has a very well stocked kitchen, is warm and welcoming and very comfortable. Morag is a lovely host. she met us and showed us the place and made us feel at home. She took time out to explain about the locality and the island of South Uist. Our trip to South Uist was really special. Peaceful, quiet but very interesting. People were all very friendly. We'll definitely be back. Five star!

    Briano2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stone House is completely special. The arrangement of the house, with the living space upstairs gives a joyous quality to living. It is light and airy and beautifully situated by a loch. Morag is welcoming, generous and thoughtful and gave us plenty of local information. It is a home where you feel settled.

    Robyn2019-09-21T00:00:00Z

Modern en-suite bedroom with all amenities and use of private guest lounge on our working Croft farm. It is close to Lochboisdale ferry terminal, hills, lochs, famous Tom Morris designed golf course and stunning beaches.
  • This B&B was an unexpected gem. The hosts have worked hard to make quality B&B experience for their guests with high standard purpose built rooms that are warm and comfortable, and small living room for guests to share. Breakfast was excellent. The hosts couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Very handy location for Lochboisdale Ferry. Highly recommended!

  • Amazing quiet spot in a lovely house! Dolina, her husband and their dog Glen are indeed superhosts! Hope to be back again!

    Pedro2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Dolina’s home has been beautifully and flawlessly created as a second floor by her husband. It is warm, cozy and ultra-comfortable. This lovely couple could not have been more welcoming or helpful, including helping me to print out the ticket for our next ferry trip that I had forgotten to do. Dolina packed a delicious breakfast-on-the-go in a paper bag for us to take on the next leg of the journey as we had to be up and away super early. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

  • An excellent stay

    Robert2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying at Dolina’s place. She made very tasty breakfasts, was friendly, helpful and hospitable and the room was spotless. It was excellent and I will definitely recommend it to others. The bed was very comfortable indeed and it was a quiet and peaceful environment to relax in. I attended the annual Symposium, which was a festival of Gaelic music, talks about the environment of Uist and a chance to learn about the local area. I’d love to return and stay at Dolina’s place again. Thank you for making my first trip to Uist a lovely experience.

    Helen2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay and lovely friendly hosts. New and clean, much more like a hotel than a B&B and nicer than we expected. Location is great - just 15 mins walk from the hotel with restaurant or 5 mins drive to the ferry for our early morning ferry. Thanks again Dolina!

  • Ceannard Croft is a fantastic place and was a great find. It was very clean and tidy, and very welcoming. The amenities in the home were perfect and they provided everything you could need and would undoubtedly go the extra mile. All in all I would highly recommend and certainly stay again.

  • Mary offers fantastic hospitality that can't be beaten. We felt very welcome in her home, the bedroom and ensuite shower room were spotless and very comfortable and it was great to have the use of a sitting room too. Breakfast was an added bonus as was Mary's local knowledge. Nothing was too much bother and we'd highly recommend Mary's place if visiting the outer Hebrides.

  • Very comfortable stay with a lovely host in a fantastic location. Highly recommended.

    Lynda2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • The splendid isolation of Mary's home makes it a very special location. The mahair surrounds the area which is full of lochs, animal life and history. Mary welcomed us into her home and made us feel like special guests, looking after our every need. We thoroughly enjoyed her company and would not hesitate to return. We only had two nights there and would love to have stayed longer. A wonderful place indeed.

    Sue2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Mary was a fabulous host. The ferry trip was disrupted because of bad weather meaning we arrived really late but Mary made us very welcome when we finally arrived. A lovely house and superb breakfast

    John2019-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a lovely two days in this perfectly placed croft for our walking the Hebridean Way. Mary was away but generously let us use her kitchen (large, warm, well provided and with a comfy sofa). The room itself was comfortable and also individual. The walk in shower was just what we wanted at the end of a day walking on the coast. So we were sorry not to meet Mary but thoroughly enjoyed her hospitality!

Authentic Hebridean crofter's cottage, renovated to provide all the conveniences and comforts expected in the 21st C. Double bedroom, Twin bedroom, bathroom with shower, sitting room with wood-burning stove, well-equipped kitchen, garden with parking.
Eight Askernish is an authentic traditional single-storey Hebridean crofters cottage. The back door opens into a kitchen dining room with three windows giving wonderful views across the unspoilt natural crofting landscape, and amazing wildlife. The comfortable sitting room, with wood-burning stove and other amenities, enjoys views towards the hills of the east side of Uist. A hall with the front door gives access to a double bedroom, a light and airy bathroom (with electric shower over the bath) and the spacious twin bedroom with views of the hills. Most rooms - but especially the sitting area, hall and master bedroom, offer spectacular panoramic views across the crofts, the sea and mountains, with abundant wildlife. The house is equipped with good quality fixtures, furnishings and applicances, kept well-maintained and presented spotlessly clean. Although the house retains its original external character, indoors everything is firmly in the 21stC, offering all the comforts and conveniences of modern life, making Eight Askernish perfect for a holiday at any time of year. [A detailed inventory is available on request]
Askernish is a small 'township' crofts with houses scattered along a lane leading from the main road to the machair, dunes and beach of the Atlantic coast on the west side of Uist. In recent years Askernish has become more diverse and somewhat busier (that's by Uist standards - even quieter than typical for the islands in general!) due to development of private houses that are not crofts, and the restoration of the world-famous Askernish golf course, which is found in and amongst the machair and dunes. It's a quiet place, even more so out of the main holiday season, though that's when the wildlife is most abundant. The unspoilt naturally wild landscape is rich with bird life in particular, especially owls (which here are seen hunting by day), hen harriers, lapwings, oyster-catchers ... and the breezes carry the sound of waves, birdsong and the bleating of lambs. For walking, either head east into the hills - you could walk all day and not meet another person! - or explore the dunes, machair tracks (good on foot or by bike) and the beach, which go on for miles and miles. At Daliburgh - just a few minutes drive (about 10mins by bike) there's a co-op supermarket, post office, hotel with bar and restaurant, takeway, filling station, churches, library etc. There are more extensive facilities further afield in the island of Benbecula (connected by causeway or by ferry). The island and it surrounding waters are abundant with wildlife, from whales to golden eagles, orchids to rare sheep and wild ponies. And there's more to discover in neighbouring islands - just a short drive away. We are happy to offer advice or suggestions on exploring - just ask!
  • A perfect base if you are in need of quiet, warmth and a home prepared with care in South Uist. We appreciated Jonathan’s flexibility when ferries to our next destination (a wee Isle ) were postponed for at least a day. This is much less likely to be an issue for visitors returning to Skye. Staff at the nearby Kildonan Centre are very friendly.

  • Beautiful home great location. Well laid out 10 mins from ferry. Superb beaches within walking distance Highly recommend

  • 8 Ashkernish is superbly located. 15 mins from the Lochboisdale ferry and 30 from the Eriskay terminal which makes a trip to Barra a must. The superb west coast beaches are a short walk down a quiet lane and the East coast hills within east reach too. Petrol and groceries need be no concern as both are a 5 minute drive away. The cottage has all the amenities you need and is spotlesly clean. We were luck enough to see a hen harrier and short eared owl from inside the property. Would certainly use again.

  • Eight Askernish is a beautiful place to stay. It is spotlessly clean, warm, cosy, brilliantly equipped and well-placed to explore the Uists and Barra. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and really appreciated Jonathon and Denise’s attention to detail and care, and especially their understanding about our accident with the fireplace, where the carpet got burnt. (We’re going to cover the cost of the repair). I’d really recommend this place to anyone looking for a cosy getaway in the outer Hebrides.

  • We loved our stay in this house. It was beautiful, very clean, and had everything we needed to self cater. This was the perfect location for us to explore the Uists - and the maps are very useful. We had hired a car so the shops and hotels (for occasional meals) were close. There were clear instructions in the house manual on what we needed to do and the instruction manuals were very useful.

    Pam2018-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice cottages, the view from the kitchen at sunset is beautiful, as it is fun to cook. Room layout well suited for couple and families. The location of the house is good, you are in the side street by the main road and can easily reach everything. Shopping and gas station are also nearby. Heating via radiators funktiniert very good, but you have to order additional fuel for the stove in the living room in advance. Kitchen is well equipped to cook for yourself and includes washer and dryer.

  • Chrissie was a wonderful host in every way. It was a pleasure to stay there for 5 nights. Everyday she would try she would offer me a fantastic breakfast or coffee when I had finished work. Great tips for places to eat at night were always well received. I will be back next September.

  • Crissis house is fantastic! Everything was fine and you will find a nice decorated house and a delightful room. The house is located in a very quiet area, with amazing surrounding: everything is green, there are some sheeps and cows... perfect for a relaxing walk! The beach is easy to go by bike. The breakfast was great! a lot of fruits and cereal. All together it was a fantastic stay, where I could enjoy the loneliness nature. Thanks a lot Crissi!

  • Our experience at Chrissie's was beyond expectations. The location is rural, quite and lovely. The place was like walking into a warming and loving home of your grandparents. However, the best thing about it was Chrissie herself. She was charming, inviting and took special care of us. We throughly enjoyed having tea with her and asking her questions about the unique and isolated lifestyle of the Outer Hebrides. We even got to feed her baby lamb name Kate Middleton. We drove away talking about her and our experience there. Highly recommend.

    Scott2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night at Chrissie’s lovely bed and breakfast. As soon as we opened the door we felt as family and at home. Everything was very clean and small features like shower gel and shampoo came in handy. Chrissie welcomes us with coffee and homemade cake and we had a lovely chat about the walks and restaurants we could visit. She helped us book a table in the Inn. In the evening we and other guests were hanging in the kitchen and we had a good time. After a good nights sleep we got served a lovely continental breakfast with homemade scones and rhubarb Marmelade. We can really recommend Chrissies bnb and would have loved to stay longer! Her pet lamb Kate is the cutest! We wish her all the best with her next guests and hope to see her soon again!

  • Warm hospitality (full tea when we arrived in the evening, full Scottish breakfast in the morning), good conversation, a clean comfortable room to stay (fluffy towels!) with our own en suite, big comfortable bed and privacy within a shared house. Mary was very welcoming and available for a last minute booking and change of plans as dictated by the the Scottish weather when our late ferry was canceled. She embodies the true spirit of B&B hospitality and we would be happy to stay again.

  • I'm missing stars to describe Mary's accommodation. A cozy and well-kept room to the smallest detail, fluffy towels, a beautiful window overlooking the sea from which you can see sunset from the comfort of your bed. Once we had placed our things in the room, he made us a tea with scones with butter and jam in the living room. We enjoy it in wonderful and comfortable reclining leather sofas, with the afternoon sun entering through the window. Truly SPECTACULAR. The breakfast room is a real cute, taken care of, like everything else, to the smallest detail. Mary is lovely, hospitality personified. It made us feel at home. I literally fell in love with her. I have no words to thank the treatment we receive and how precious and careful everything is. There are not enough stars in Airbnb to rate our stay at Mary's house. A lovely room to the tiniest little detail, soft towels, a beautiful window with an ocean view that will allow you to see the sunset from your VERY nice bed. When we were settled, she prepared some warm tea with delicious scones with butter and marmalade at the sitting room, a very cozy room all furnished with incredibly comfortable leather sofas. The breakfast room is extremely cute to detail (as everything) and also has a wonderful sea view. I literally fell in love with Mary. She is the best host I've ever met and made as feel at home during our stay. I'm unable to describe with exactitude how great our experience was. Thank you Mary.

  • Our stay at Mary’s was far better than we had any reason to expect: Mary put a lot of effort into making us feel at home and went above and beyond making our stay a success. She kindly went to look for us at the bus stop as we were coming on foot and in the rain, and also gave us a lift out to a nearby loch, so that we could get more walking in. Another highlight of our stay was the walk out to the point near her home, where we were greeted by four curious seals. The room itself is comfortable and warm, and Mary also kindly allowed us the use of a small sitting room. We very much enjoyed our stay!

    Menemsha2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's croft is beautifully situated, with stunning views. Her continental breakfasts are delicious, with good rolls and fresh fruit, and local hot- and cold-smoked salmon. Our room was more than comfortable, and, like the whole house, decorated with flair. We wish we had Mary's eye for interior decor and lighting — we learned some great tips for our home refurb! You don't expect "TV in room" in this kind of croft: enjoy the mountain views instead! But there is a telly in the guests' sitting-room if you want one, and the WiFi is excellent.

  • We spent one night at Mary's house, and despite her she could not be there, she gave us all the instructions so we could stay home without problems. The room is large with a private toilet, very clean and with everything you need. Mary gave us some cups and cups in case we wanted to make coffee at breakfast time, and offered to take anything from the refrigerator if we needed (since we arrived later that day). He even offered us whiskey, and the possibility of staying one more day if we needed it. The communication was very good and fast from the beginning. Highly recommended!

    Anna2018-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is very hospitable and friendly. Our room was spotless, cosy, comfortable and well equipped Communication was excellent. Thank you Mary for getting up so early to make breakfast for us!

    Jude2018-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Mary responded very quickly to my request and allowed access to settle in early, which was very helpful. She was very welcoming and we got off to a great start over a wee dram and some wine which Mary kindly provided. The weather was bad so Mary let me cook in her kitchen. The peat fire in the lounge was very cosy, breakfast (eggs from the hens in the garden) delicious and conversation lively. It’s also a great location for doing the Caledonian way as it runs past the property. I stayed an extra day I liked it so much!

  • Chrissie is a fantastic host. It is very cosy to have breakfast served and to hear about living on the Island and get recommandations about what to see. We felt like being “at home” in Christie’s house. It is nice to have the opportunity to use a separate living room to relax when needed. The house is situated on the west side of the island in walking distance from a beautiful long sandy beach. It is the perfect place to enjoy nature in a quiet way and to come close to living on the island.
