"The Hide" is a cosy, handcrafted cabin nestled on a slope with stunning views towards Glenveagh National Park. Just fifteen minutes drive from The Wild Atlantic Way makes The Hide ideal for a peaceful retreat or a great base for exploring Donegal.
The cabin is a cosy, self contained space, designed and made by Pete to make the most of our beautiful mountain views. We have both enjoyed decorating the space with as many handcrafted, reclaimed and up-cycled items as possible. As you enter The Hide you will find a wood burning stove in the centre of the cabin, alcove double bed with curtains and blinds to the right and a small bathroom behind the bed. A couch against the centre back wall allows guests to avail of the fire and the tranquil views through the double doors onto the deck. To the left is the kitchen area with a four ring electric hob, combined oven, grill and microwave and fridge with freezer compartment. Guests have access to a washing machine and dryer in a nearby outbuilding. The space is heated by the wood-burning stove with fuel provided. The private decked area with seating, table and barbecue is to the front. Guest access is via a private gravel path behind our own traditional cottage which leads to the cabin. If The Hide is unavailable for the dates you are interested in, please check out our other listings. The Cow Shed is a little converted byre at the opposite end of our house from the cabin. The Birdbox is our little handcrafted treehouse nestled in mature trees behind The Cow Shed.
We are centrally located in a beautiful part of Donegal, close to most of its attractions. The cabin is nestled in a valley 3 km from the scenic village of Fintown. The river Finn is known widely for its salmon and trout fishing and permits are available locally for fly-fishing. In Fintown village, you will find the only operational narrow gauge railway in Donegal. It runs for 5 km beside Lough Finn, which is overlooked by Aghla and Scraig mountains. The local village has a shop, pubs, church, school, health centre and library. The towns of Glenties, Dungloe, Ballybofey and Letterkenny are 15 minutes, 15 minutes, 25 minutes and 30 minutes drives respectively. There you will find restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. There are many stunning beaches within a 30 minute drive, offering beautiful walks and a choice of sports such as kayaking, surfing, golf and horse-riding, all of which we can help you to organise.
  • Cabin is exactly as advertised. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • Anna and Pete’s ‘The Hide’ couldn’t have been more perfect. From Anna’s hospitality to the location, it was beautiful from the minute we arrived! The Hide is the perfect getaway spot and I can’t wait to book it again!

  • Pete and Anna are fantastic hosts! Their hospitality made the trip even more enjoyable. The cottage is lovely and the views are amazing. It has everything you could ask for. I cannot recommend staying here enough!

  • Incredible visit in every way

    Tom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were so impressed with this cosy and really well equipped cabin, with its stunning views and thoughtful little touches such as plenty of books and an iPod with speakers to listen to music. The cabin has everything you could need to have a relaxing stay - even in the snow we managed to stay toasty warm with the fire burning. Also really enjoyed a long walk in the nearby Glenveagh National Park and a lovely pint of Guinness in the local pub in Fintown. Really hope to be back in the future!

    Alice2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time here! Pete and Anna couldn't have been more welcoming and had thought of every little detail. The views are spectacular and sitting in front of the wood burner was bliss especially with the hail and rain outside. We will certainly be back 😁

  • A little piece of creative beauty, carefully crafted in the natural beauty of the Co.Donegal landscape. A credit to its owners. This place inspires creativity, evokes wonder and brings happiness to all who are lucky enough to experience it. Forever grateful to Anna and Pete for allowing us to share their beautiful extended home🥰🌟

  • We have stayed in Donegal many times over the course of 30+ years and this is by far the best place either of us has ever stayed. Anna and Pete are the perfect hosts; enthusiastic, warm and friendly. The wood burning stove was lit before our arrival, so the cottage was cosy, even in 2 degrees! The cottage exceeded all of our expectations; far bigger than it seemed from the pictures, super cosy, spotlessly clean and full of character. The views from the cottage are incredible, even with snow, storms, hailstones, and lightening! We loved staying here, cooking, listening to music, drinking wine, taking drives to spectacular wild beaches, and enjoying watching the ever changing weather from the comfort of this cosy little cottage. We will definitely be back.

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place in Co. Donegal. Pete was an excellent host, and talked us through everything that the cottage had to offer. Even in February it was a great place to stay, and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway away from the world. Thank you Pete and Anna!

    Adele2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! Cosy and comfortable with lovely personal touches. Stunning scenery. Pete and Anna were warm and welcoming. Also very accommodating and flexible - communication was great! Highly recommend for couples/friends looking for quiet get away in rural Ireland.

  • You read the reviews and have an idea in your head what to expect but Pete and Anna will blow them out of the water. You couldn’t ask for more hospitable hosts. The cottage is so cosy and ab escape from the outside world. From books and DVDs to Spotify playlists made for you, Pete and Anna thought of everything!

    Laura2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to escape to. With no phone signal its amazing to just take in the mountain area inside the cozy cottage.

    Tracy2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the cottage. It more than matched our expectations, of a cozy get away in February!

    Katie2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb experiences we’ve had. Anna + Pete are the perfect hosts, quick with local advice, firewood and bottled water, and friendly chat. The views from the cottage are incredible, even with thunderstorms and heavy snow! The space is far bigger than we anticipated, with wood burner, electric shower, and all kitchen amenities we needed. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The view from the picture window was fantastic, watching the Donegal weather blow by. The fire provided enough heat for the entire cottage, providing a cosy environment. The perfect get away.

This property is an ideal getaway as its location offers all the benefits of country, coastal(300 meters to beach) living and is a short distance (1.5km) from the shops and restaurants of Killybegs.
The scenery is breathtaking. With private access to 3 beach coves that open onto Fintragh beach (blue flag). Untouched wildlife including birds of prey, otters, coastal birds, seals, dolphins and if you are very patient you might catch a glimpse of a puffin! In addition to its natural edge it has been at the very hub of historical events with neighbouring fields accommodating ring forts, neolithic tombs, waters sailed on by vessels that participated in the Spanish armada and on the beach at the foot of our land (near cove 2) a B-17 flying fortress crashed and submerged in the sands during 1944 (all survived). Or just simply fish mackerel, crab and lobster from the headlands.
Local Pier , Kayaking, Cycling, Mountains, Fishing, Walking, Beaches, Surfing, Bird Watching and much much more.
  • A really lovely cosy space in a beautiful location, perfect for two people and very comfortable. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful - would love to come back.

  • We had a lovely stay in David and Tina's beautiful cottage and were very cozy despite the raging storms! Our hosts were very helpful and communicative and being welcomed by a glowing fire was a lovely touch in freezing February. The setting was absolutely stunning and we would certainly recommend this place.

    Laura2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that’s looking for a relaxing stay in a very beautiful and scenic location. Tina’s and David’s hospitality was exceptional. The house was very cosy and the fireplace created a very homely atmosphere.

  • Fantastic location close to Largy and Killybegs. Only 2minutes walk to the beach front. Plenty of areas to explore in the area and Tom and Sylvia provided lots of local information on where we might like to visit. The cottage had everything we could have possibly needed for our stay and the extra added touches including slippers etc were great! The cottage was spotlessly clean and well kept. Hopefully stay again in the future.

    Lesley2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic two night stay at Tom and Sylvias cottage. The cottage is pristine and in a great location, just 5 minutes from Killybegs and right beside the beach! Would love to visit again soon!!

  • I’d highly recommend this AirBNB if you are staying in Donegal. The space was very clean and had great amenities. Tom even had disposable sandals for the walk down to the beach nearby which I’d recommend. He also left out tips for local sights and recommendations. Overall, this was one of the best AirBNB experiences I’ve had.

"The Swallow's Nest" – A unique and thoughtfully renovated stone shed which accommodates up to two people and offers a completely peaceful and relaxing break in the hills of Donegal. Private entrance and secluded location. Available for single nights between two existing bookings. Please enquire.
“The best place to sleep in Donegal." Eli Gothill The Swallow's Nest So named after the swallows which nested here year upon year until renovation work started in October 2014, this compact and tastefully renovated accommodation started life as a humble cow byre. It is approximately 200 years old, and stands apart from the main cottage with its own private driveway, entrance and deck. It overlooks a grassy meadow dotted with sheep. The unit consists of one central living space with kitchen area, simple furniture and a bathroom. The king size bed is up on a sleeping mezzanine which affords spectacular views over the meadow and hills beyond. Heating is from a wood-burning stove with small portable radiant heater for occasional use. The kitchen comprises a sink, gas hob, small electric oven and fridge. The Swallow's Nest is essentially for couples and offers a truly romantic and peaceful retreat - somewhere where you can literally ‘shed your life' and relax. It is unsuitable for children and infants because of several safety concerns, such as the height of the mezzanine. It comes with all linen, towels, basic toiletries, freshly baked scones and some cooking essentials. The basket of scones, butter and jam are a welcome gift and are not supplied on a daily basis, unless requested and for a small extra charge. A towel refresh/drying service is offered for those guests staying longer than a few days.
I live in a secluded and private location with complete tranquility, yet am surrounded by very caring and helpful neighbours. This sort of sums up Donegal : peace where you want it and help when needed. Add to this the stunning coast line and mountains, walking opportunities and great wealth of traditional music, the pubs and their people and you have a place I call home. - a little slice of heaven.
  • A wonderful host in the most gorgeous cottage, we loved the space and the personal touch of freshly baked scones on arrival. Allaye had kindly provided a local tour of the area which was perfect to follow even on a rainy day. The cottage is cosy and welcoming with a friendly local cat and two sheep in the meadow. We were lucky enough for the sky to clear for a short time one night and because of there being so little light pollution we got a stunning view of the stars. We loved the place and cant wait to come back as well as recommending it all friends and family. Allaye also allowed us to see her other property (which is also for rent on Airbnb "The Hare's Leap"), a stunningly log cabin close by. Thank you Allaye for allowing us to stay

    Cali2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had an idyllic stay in a timeless haven of peace. The setting is sublime, the countryside, the mountain and the coast offering views all the more beautiful than the other, with easy access to hikes in almost immaculate magical places (we were not transported). Allaye is a wonderful host, thanks for the scones, music and conversation. Good continuation !

    Léandre2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • My mother and partner loved spending her 50th birthday weekend at Allaye's property. They felt very at home and loved the quirky touches to the rooms. The property was easily accessible, and there were lots of lovely spots to visit in the surrounding area. Allaye is a great host and very quick with responses. They would love to return again someday. Thank you Allaye for their stay!

    Chelsea2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The rustic, private, and cozy space was a perfect place to stay and explore Donegal. The wood stove kept us warm all night (in spite of the cold and rainy weather) and added to our sense of adventure. We really felt that we were away from it all.

    Susan2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely two night stay at the Swallows Nest. The cottage is perfectly equipped with everything needed for a short, cosy stay. The bed was very comfortable and waking up to the sound of rain on the roof and the view out across the countryside was ideal. Allaye is a great host who met us on arrival and ensured we had everything needed for our trip including loan of a wee guitar and some delicious home made scones. Needless to say, we were sad to leave this morning and would love to return again one day!

    Beth2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Swallow’s Nest is perfect for a weekend away in the mountains. Allaye is a fantastic host and couldn’t be any more accommodating!

  • The most amazing view you will have at a stay in Ireland. The barn is fantastic! Jacinta had the fire going as we arrived, and we couldn't have been happier. It had everything we could've hoped for and was so cute and cozy. We regret that we only stayed for one night and kept talking about how we wish we stayed longer. Great bed, kitchen area, and fun to spend time around the fire. Everything in town is just a short walk away. Pubs, food, store, etc. Jacinta was great keeping in contact with and her two dogs are fun to give pets to. Visit the White Harte (pub) in town. Tish and Connell (owners of pub) were a blast to talk to. We stayed there for 4-5 hours into the night. Make a trip up to the lighthouse as well. Connell does bus trips from Rathmullan to the lighthouse every day.

    Stefan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really liked the Barn--it has an excellent vibe about it. The owners, who are very kind hosts, have clearly taken care to create a unique space filled with interesting objects. The view is astounding, and I can only imagine what it would be like in fair weather. But we were quite content to sit by the fire and listen to the wind rage outside. The Beachcomber is a welcoming place to have a pint and read the Sunday papers, and posher digs are available at Rathmullan House. We were very happy with our stay.

  • We truly enjoyed our time at the seaside cottage. We arrived in a storm and were greeted by Sean who escorted us to the cottage (followed his car). It was very helpful to have him show us a few things about the cottage. Just as the other reviews mentioned...the view...blew us away! We loved watching the storm in the comfort of the cottage with a cozy fire. Sean offered great suggestions about the area and was very responsive when we needed something. We'd highly recommend Ursula's place.

  • I can’t say enough good things about this lovely cottage. It was one of the highlights of my trip. It’s outfitted with things I didn’t even know I needed and I ended up having the best and most relaxed time here. Centrally located if you like to hike or shop, surrounded by so much natural beauty. The owners are even lovelier. Stay here—you will not be disappointed.

Just three minute’s walk to the Atlantic Ocean , our charming, rough little cottage sits alone in an iconic location, above the wild, smooth-stoned beach and tiny harbour of Port, Donegal. It is a brilliant hideaway in a breath-taking landscape.
This ocean-edge home is offbeat, off-grid, and very nearly off the map. There’s only one rough road to Port, Donegal – and the nearest neighbours are three miles up the valley. With no mains electricity, we generate our own 12V power from solar panels , and keep warm with traditional stoves and ingenious hot water systems. Some might call it primitive, but we don’t - we reckon it provides some of the greatest luxuries you can have in an over-loaded, high tech world. Holidays in Port, Donegal are wildly old-fashioned with no power to spare for electronic games or TV, but there's plenty of fishing, swimming, scavenging, messing in streams and waterfalls, walking, and getting really muddy. Lots of extreme sports too - rock-climbing, kayaking on the door-step - and surfing not far away- for those who've a mind to. NB - there is No 220V power in the cottage - the plugs by the snug were for my old marine radio , and have been disconnected for years. Inside: Port,Donegal follows its traditional lines, with a central room with a fireplace, cosy lovers' nook, with sheepskins, and long table for eating. A large hatch opens into a simple kitchen with gas stove, sink and running hot and cold water. This is a simple, mod-con-free, and genuinely eco, zone. A small amount of power comes from the solar panels – enough for a 12V. few lights Our water comes into the house from a hillside river, and we heat it at the back of a wood-burning stove. We have no fridge - food is chilled in the outside larder and milk/drinks in the stream. This is an important part of the simple charms of Port, but it wouldn't suit anyone too "power-hungry". Bedrooms – we have a master bedroom and ensuite, and a double-bunk room with ensuite inside the main cottage. The Snug by the stove in the Living-room , covered in Kenyan sheepskins, can be easily converted into a lovers' nest, or kid's corner. We keep warm with two wood-burning stoves inside, but in the coldest times, it never gets to modern home temperatures. Also, the house is old-fashioned, without an even surface or wide door anywhere, so we're afraid the property is not generally suitable for the disabled or elderly. Outside: Port,Donegal has a small grassed stonewalled area – and couple of stores - and to one side is a large traditional sink for cleaning fish, washing surf/snorkel gear etc. But the main outside is the rest of the valley, which surrounds the cottage. Streams, waterfalls, rivers, immense cliffs, heather'd hillsides - and not a single other house in sight. You can walk for miles along the coastline, through valleys people don't go into for days, or weeks on end. Nearby: Beaches: 25 minutes drive to Maghera's huge sandy beaches and caves, 35 minutes drive to the perfect crescent beach of Silver strand . 45 minutes drive to Tramore, and Bundoran, both surf beaches. Glencolmcille, the closest village, is 20 minutes drive or an hour and a half’s brisk walk across the hills. Glen, as its called locally, has a lively pub, a cultural centre (music and Irish classes) and often great live trad music. It’s also a very spiritual place, with ancient standing stones scattered around the village. Ardara - the closest town, half an hour’s drive away is really friendly, and good fun in the evenings, with loads of pubs, live music and the best fish and chip shop in Ireland (the West End Café). Great shopping if you like woolly jumpers or tweed. be sure to get a Molloy Blanket before you leave - woven with all the colours of the Donegal landscape. Access: Most people would be very glad of a car, because there is very little public transport round here, nothing at all from our valley. Buses from Glencolmcille, in the next valley, are irregular and seasonal. Airports – there are a few flights into Derry and Donegal airports, but most people come via Dublin or Belfast. Ferries come from Wales, Scotland, France and Spain to Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, `Cork, Belfast or Larne. Important facts to note : The road to Port: The road to the cottage is tarmac'ed, though rough and bumpy , but four wheel drive is not necessary, unless in the snow! It is also reachable by mountain bike over the hills. But, most people are glad of a car here, given how remote it is, if only as a charging point for phones/cameras. Car also helps in terms of bringing in Fuel/supplies etc. Availability: we are open All year round - and there s always something sublimely beautiful about Port, no matter the weather. Minimum 1 week stay in general, though weekends available out of season. In our opinion , it really isn't worth getting all the way here, immersing yourself in the glorious remoteness of it all, only to turn around and leave!
This is probably the most remote and beautiful stretch of coastline in Ireland , tho' I say it myself. (Actually lots of guide books say it too). The cottage is the last inhabitable house on the coastline between Glencolmkille and Ardara. The American artist Rockwell Kent came here to capture the raw Atlantic lifestyle of the people in the 1930's ; Dylan Thomas came here to dry out ...unsuccessfully , but wrote some of his most atmospheric poems over the hill in the abandoned studio at Glenlough . Bonnie Prince Charlie is said to have sailed for Europe from here after escaping Scotland following his defeat at the battle of Culloden. Shipwrecks, myths and legends abound .
  • Adventure, breathless scenery 360 around the cottage, clean safe and comfy place to stay.

  • The cottage by the sea and heath , rustic and loaded with charm and the surrounding hills were decorated with sheep. A unique experience we will not forget even though it seemed that time had forgotten this special location. We will think fondly of this time and place years from now. Justin and Susanne

  • Absolutely gorgeous place!!!!! If you want to get a break from busy life’s, this “end of the world” feeling cottage is your best pick!!!!

  • Roland's place surpassed all our expectations. We stayed for 3 nights on our 'minimoon'. The location is spectacular - right beside the sea and removed from the rest of the world. The house itself was cosy and clean, with plenty of room and good facilities.

  • We spent our honeymoon in Port and it stole a little piece of our hearts. This cottage is a beautifully basic outpost from which to reconnect with yourself and your fellow travellers. Fires, sheep and candlelight. Waves, rain and wind. And sometimes sunshine - but it doesn't matter what the weather is. This place is an old school patch of heaven and we can't wait to go back.

  • Port Donegal is a total delight! Such a amazing spot and the cosiest cottage. What could be better.

    Vicky2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • "All that is gold does not glitter" -JRR Tolkien -is the best way to describe Roland's place. The kitchen was well equipped, the place was very cozy, and welcoming. Everyone we meet in town was super kind and helpful. The view and location were stunning. Roland describes the place well, so read every detail. Be prepared to stoke the wood fire and turn off your electronics. You will be amazed like my family and I.

  • Landed in donegal to fabulous weather, sleeve league boat trip on a fabulous day and lunch in the rusty makeral both recommended. Spin to ardara to get the linen and keys without a bother then to port.. fabulous location and house much nicer than expected and so much equipment you could want for nothing... evening walk and then to watch the most amazing sunset.. fire on and buckets of hot water.. read a book by candlelight.. next morning started fine so off for a four hour walk to clear the cobwebs before the rain came in... cosy inside though with the fire on listening to the rain outside.. rain again on check out but you'd never go anywhere in Ireland if the rain stoped you! Fabulous mid week break without any of the daily routine! Thank you!

Best House and Views in Donegal! Stunning unique beach house Perched on the hill, amazing panoramic cliff top views of Donegal Bay and mountains Part traditional part modern, beautiful interior. Featured in Irish Times newspaper style. Large open plan layout, 250 sq metres Abundance of activities & attractions very close. Remote with local pub and shop close walk. Donegal named by National Geographic as the coolest place on the planet for 2017 Fast Fibre Broadband
This is a stunning home that we love. It took us a few years to build it and have been using ourselves for many years - we've decided to share it. Check out the photos, it's just such a wonderful home perched up on top of the cliff overlooking Donegal Bay. Featured in the Irish Times newspaper - (URL HIDDEN) Hopefully it's apparent from the photos but this is not an ordinary house - the house itself is amazing, as are the views. I'm comfortable to stick my neck out and say that as I know you'll love it. If you don't believe me then check out the reviews so far. Just in case you're someone who doesn't read the reviews I've taken a few exact quote examples to give you an idea... 'This house is spectacular! Truly stunning views matched by a comfortable, modern, luxurious house. If it's available, just book it.' 'I've lived in Ireland for 17 years, and have never stayed in a holiday house that comes anywhere close to this one.' 'Absolut the best house you can stay at the coast of Ireland!!!!' 'A completely beautiful house surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I could not recommend this house more' 'Wow just Wow. Great house and what a location. The views are amazing. ' 'This house is unbelievable - the pictures don't lie - the views are spectacular. We almost didn't want to leave the house because the views were so amazing!!' 'This house is just amazing! We felt like millionaires living there' 'Wow! What a house and what a view. Don't waste your time looking around for something better - This is the place!' 'Don't think twice - you MUST rent this house!!' 'a MTV style crib that won't break the bank' The House - it's designed to be open and social, modern but still cosy. The kitchen/dining/living area is all open in the shape of a large L. The setup is perfect for a group of people cooking at home, or just hanging out and socialising. The kitchen is a large well fitted out space and has a huge picture window out to the bay - a real joy to cook in. The kitchen extends out via a large island to the dining area. This turns a corner into a spectacular more than double height lounge/living room, with double height windows again out to the beautiful Donegal Bay view. A huge amount of light comes through to the living area side of the house as to it consists mainly of glass to take advantage of the views. The photos illustrate it somewhat, but they really don't do it justice and are limited to 24. Polished concrete floors throughout living area - looks great, but also a great conductor of heat for the geothermal heating system and underfloor heating. Nice to be eco-friendly and just a little warm underfoot sometimes in Donegal! There's a stove fireplace in the living room, nice to sit around. There are 4 bedrooms in total and they are all large, each has its own character, all good wardrobe space. There are also 4 bathrooms in the house, all of which are a good size, and 2 of which are ensuite - makes it easy for a group of people. The main bedroom has our favourite view from the house to welcome you when you open the curtains in the morning - looking out to the bay over the Rossnowlagh cliffs. There is a separate large walk in wardrobe room. The bathroom is ensuite. It has really high ceilings, with a huge walk in shower. There is a large sink that's built into an antique dresser. Add in the gorgeous tiles and it's a room with a lot of character! The bed is a double Orla, the other family member, is the artistic one. And she had a lot to do with the next bedroom - again a big room, lots of quirky beautiful little features, the main one being the bed headboard that she made. The ensuite bathroom is a wet room with beautiful glistening marble mosaic tiles, a very modern sleek sink...minimalist, but touches like the antique mirror being backlit and shells from the nearby Rossnowlagh beach warm it up. There's also a disco ball in the bedroom I forgot to mention : ). Double bed. Large wardrobe space. There's another room which is probably the cosiest bedroom. This has a queen bed and again plenty of wardrobe space. Then the spare room where there is 2 beds - a regular double bed and also a couch that folds out into a bed (the couch bed isn't quite a double but its bigger than a single). There are beautiful views of the Dartry Mountains (the famous Benbulben) from the room. The bathroom is not ensuite, but right next door - and this is the bathroom that has the bath (there is also a shower in the bath). This bedroom and bathroom are also the only ones that are upstairs - the other 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms are all on the ground floor) All the bathrooms have showers were you can set the temperature on the wall before you get in...seems like a bit of an extravagance, but pretty damn good actually. Above the dining area in a walled off mezzanine area is the den. There's a flat screen TV with surround sound, gaming system (useful for kids and adults alike!), some dvds, board games, comfortable couch and chairs - the chill area! Kitchen pretty much has everything you'll need (check just in case there's something you're particularly after) and for coffee lovers there's a Nespresso machine with pods. If you want to bring your own coffee there's a cafetiere. There are some very basic provisions in the kitchen - please check if in doubt. In the main you'll need to bring/get what you need yourself. The View! - 180 degree views of sea and mountains. We've included a few photos, but really it just doesn't do it justice either in how it looks or how it changes from minute to minute. To the west you can see the Dartry mountains in Sligo, the famous Benbulben, Mullaghmore head and the old gothic style castle. On a clear day you can see the Nephin mountains in Mayo! Following the eye around from west to east it's the expanse of Donegal Bay and the hills over the other side, then to Rossnowlagh strand (which is a 2 minute drive), round to the Devil's Bit mountain the other side. The sunsets can be stunning - I've included one or two in the pictures. The house has a wonderful open plan layout and can really suit either a couple who want an amazing space to themselves for a few days or a family or two families staying together. We do try to price it so that it's affordable for a couple, particularly during the week. For families and bigger groups there are 4 bathrooms for the 4 bedrooms - so lots of space for each other. We've also had small business meetings, small yoga/qigong retreats, small family events. Depending on what you want to do and the completeness of the information you provide we are open to things like this but aren't making any promises - basically ask us and tell us as much as you can and we'll let you know if we're willing to go with it and if it will cost any extra and/or if we need an extra deposit. The house is available to rent as accommodation for those listed on the booking inquiry - it is not a cheap venue hire to which you can just bring who you like. Only people who are on the booking to stay are allowed in the house, unless consent is received in advance. It's a great base - there are a huge amount of things within driving distance...people love the place as a base - you can easily head further north into donegal or west to sligo/mayo. We can give you plenty of tips to make sure your stay is the best it can be. And it's really not a bad place to be holed up in case the Irish weather isn't being too cooperative!! There's a beauty in that strong west of Ireland weather, and a great vantage point of the bay to watch it. Some of the best times I've had there have been in that kind of weather, just hanging out with family/friends. Many people have commented they didn't want to leave the house to go places, I've felt that way myself many times when I've been (URL HIDDEN) just a great place to be cosied up in. There is wired fast fibre broadband unlimited. The broadband speed we have here is faster than I have with my fibre broadband in central London where I live - this is very unusual for Donegal. You can stream to the TV whatever you like - there's a chromecast device there but you can bring your own should you choose. There are also some board games, books, old surf magazines, various Irish books. There is also a bluetooth speaker in the living area to which you can stream your own music. We will of course do our best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. So talk to us - let us know what you're interested in, what you're hoping to get out of your stay - there's so much interesting stuff in the vicinity, we will be able to point you in the right direction. We want you to leave feeling like you cant wait to get back. USEFUL THINGS VERY NEARBY... - Small shop with all the basics 3 or 4 minutes walk from the house, so if you run out of anything you'll be able to get it here. - Great pub 10mins walk...the Smugglers Creek is an award winning pub with great atmosphere and good food...very easy to park up there for a while (unfortunately this could be a 2 minute walk but there is an issue with the 'short cut' over insurance with a neighbouring property so it is necessary to take the long 10 minute walk around) PLEASE NOTE - the base cost per night is exactly that. It fluctuates and is higher at weekends and the summer. Also for more than 2 guests staying there is an additional charge per guest per night - this will be factored into the price automatically when you make your enquiry through Airbnb, so make sure you put the correct number of guests on the booking request and it will generate the correct price for you. Depending on the proportion of adults to children and some other factors we am open to discussing the price on certain occasions.
In the short overview we've highlighted the house itself and the view. There's a huge range of activities and attractions right on the doorstep. The location of Rossnowlagh right in the 'belly' of Donegal Bay gives really easy access to Sligo and Mayo to the west, the waters of Lough Erne and many other lakes inland, and the rest of Donegal to the north. So many things to see and do! We've got quite a few little 'secrets' that we don't shout about but are happy to share in person re things to do ; ) - cliff top walk to an old ruined castle, deserted beach walks that only appear with the tide, where to pick mussels, the best eggs 5mins walk away, the traditional music places, viewpoints, and loads loads more. Things to do/attractions that we can help you organise - - - Surfing (the best wave in Ireland, the Peak, is 20 minutes drive away. For intermediates/beginners Rossnowlagh strand is great, and you can see the wave from the window! Loads of surf all down that coast going west!) - Horse riding - Beautiful hill walking/hiking - Beach recommendations - Excellent golf - Restaurant recommendations (2 restaurants within 5 minutes walk! Gaslight and award winning Smugglers Creek pub) - Bar recommendations, some great traditional music sets - Kayaking - Kite surfing - Jet skiiing - Fishing - Various historical sites - Sliabh League cliffs - highest cliffs in Europe - Rock climbing - Classic car rental to see the sights - Mountain biking - Boat trips
  • An amazing house in an outstanding location! Couldn’t have asked for better. Would definitely recommend and we hope to be back again!

  • If you're looking to stay in a modern yet comfortable house seated on the edge of the earth with out of this world views, this is the place for you. Never in my life have I went to bed and awoken to such spectacular views of the water (the master bedroom has what is essentially two walls that are floor to ceiling windows). Although I wasn't able to take advantage of the enormous size of the house -- I was traveling alone -- but the kitchen was quite accommodating for a home-cooked meal and the main living area was very cozy given its size -- I ate my steak by the fire in a very comfortable leather chair. There were zero negatives about David's house, only positives. It was an awesome stay!

  • Stunning sea views and very spacious, stylish house with en-suite bathrooms per bedroom Fabulous space to relax and enjoy the coastal scenery However access to house Is at the top of a steep laneway and no direct access to beach from house

  • Amazing space to stay with a group. The view in itself is enough to keep you occupied. The house is very comfortable and modern with the underfloor heating making it very cosy. The layout is great as it feels huge and allows lots of private areas for people who want to have some time on their own. The rules are quite strict which can sometimes make it difficult to fully relax but I would definitely stay again and think it’s a very special space.

Slieve League House b&b is located at the foot of the Slieve League cliffs on the Wild Atlantic Way,the highest sea cliffs in Europe. We are minutes drive from the top and a 20 minute walk, ideally located in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland.
At Slieve League House b&b we will be creating a ' home away from home' in Teelin, for our guests to ensure they will be returning customers. It is a purpose built home for running a bed & breakfast. It is fully equipped to hospitality and safety standards.
Slieve League House is situated in the small Gaeltacht village of Teelin in county Donegal ,it is the gateway to Slieve League,at the northwest end of Donegal bay.its population is about 250 - 300.The area is noted for fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, hillwalking, archeology, traditional music, and much much more.Theres a sign in our local pub,the Rusty Mackerel(5 minutes walk) which says "Ireland's last stress free zone"" which is so true of the area.
  • Kenneth was so wonderful, breakfast was one of the best since we’ve been in Ireland. Very close to Slieve League. Highly recommend.

    Madison2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I had a lovely stay! The location is amazing, just a walk away from the cliffs and a couple minutes drive to a great pub that has delicious options for dinner. The beds were extremely comfortable and the place was sparking clean. We enjoyed breakfast in the morning too! Would highly recommend this place if you are traveling to Donegal. We will definitely be back!

    Meg2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneth’s place was nice, warm & neat. Very near to see Slieve League. We were welcomed by Kenneth when we arrived & he gave us tips around the area. Breakfast was delicious! We had a very good rest. Highly recommend to stay here!

  • Kenneth's place is absolutely wonderful. Very convenient to Slieve League. Breakfast was great and he let me customize my meal. The room was large and the sky lights were a great touch.

    Rachel2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneth's place is warm and welcoming. We were welcomed instantly and Kenneth was quick to tell us everything we needed to know around the surrounding area. For example, how long to get to Sleave League (very important) and where can we find the nearest food, drink, and music (also super important). My boyfriend and I had been traveling nonstop for almost 2 weeks and this was the best place to step outside from the city and enjoy a calm and relaxing evening. We were then given an amazing breakfast the next morning. I couldn't be happier with this place.

In a quiet, gated development on the coast. Private access to the local bay with shallow beaches, ideal for young children. The stunningly situated local golf course is 1/2 mile away. The fishing port of Greencastle is 1 mile down the quiet country road. Escape to a unique residence for a comfortable relaxing break.
Lovingly decorated in a unique style with vibrant colours, luscious fabrics, found and upcycled materials, this cottage is relaxing and comforting yet fresh and stimulating. The kitchen has everything you need for self catering (there's also a welcome pack to start your break!) and there's an abundance of books and creative stuff to keep you busy. When it gets chilly, you can get cosy with a peat fire.
Seabreeze is literally a stones throw away from the beach and the Atlantic ocean. The sandy bay is shallow and great for kids swimming, whilst there are rockpools a plenty to go exploring. The links of Greencastle Golf Club and it's excellent facilities are a few hundred metres along the coast and the picturesque fishing port of Greencastle is a couple of kms down the road. There are beautiful walks in the area and from the headland, on a clear day Scotland can be seen. The cottage is stated in a rural area. Please don't expect supermarkets, nightclubs, take-aways etc. Expect peace, tranquility, fresh sea air and bring an umbrella. (this is Ireland after all!)
  • We absolutely enjoyed our stay in this lovely house. Never have we been in a house as well equipped as this one! It has everything you need for a great stay!

  • Danny's cottage is a gorgeous home looking out over stunning scenery. It is so comfortable and clean and beautifully decorated - it was absolutely relaxing! We have two toddlers and Danny had provided a travel cot for us. The fireplace was very comforting to come home to after a long day out. We really enjoyed our stay and got a lovely chance to really relax! The town of Buncrana was only 10 minutes away and it had everything we needed. There is plenty to do in the area. We would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get away for a few days or wanting to explore a hidden gem. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Danny and so were the few conversations we had during our stay.

    Robin2019-11-11T00:00:00Z

  • WOW! What more could one ask for- a kind and generous host in Paula, a delicious home-made breakfast, a beautiful and cozy room, and absolutely gorgeous grounds! Paula made everything extremely easy, from check-in to helping us plan our time in Ireland, and everything in between. The perfect getaway (:

    Zazu2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start? This was our first stop on. 12 day trip to Ireland and could have stayed the whole time! Paula is a wonderful soul and we are grateful to have been in her company. The room was incredibly warm and cozy and it was hard to get out of bed but the breakfast by the fire made it worth it! Such a treat to be nestled snugly in the cozy down comforter and emerge to coffee and an incredible breakfast in the most charming room ever. Paula sent us on many beautiful adventures and we can’t wait to return. I haven’t said it was well as some of the other reviews, but it’s hard to put into words! Beautiful energy here and nature at this time of year in all of it’s wildness. Thank you Paula!!!

  • We loved our 2 night stay at the Green Gates- it was a perfect way to end our 2 weeks in Ireland. It is about a mile up a beautiful country road, and it made for a perfect walk into town during the day. At night, it was a quick, easy taxi ride, with gracious drivers. We loved the beauty and seclusion of the setting. The innkeeper Paula made the experience an absolute joy: she is welcoming, warm and her breakfasts were the best and by far, the most fun we had in Ireland. She was extremely accommodating regarding some dietary restrictions, which was so appreciated. We adored her stories, her humor and all the wonderful information she shared about Ardara. If you need "fancy", this may not be the place for you. But if you love beauty, hospitality and a joyful experience, go to the Green Gates.

    Naomi2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The inn was a bit up the hill. Would have been a great hiking area, but the weather did not cooperate the day we could have. Had a fabulous tour of the whole area with Mr. John McGuiness, a local driver. The inn was a great place to relax and let down and the majestic views were breathtaking. Paula was very a welcoming and thoughtful host. Breakfast was traditional Irish cuisine with the hearth crackling in the background and Paula making a luscious breakfast while telling tales about history of the area. Delightful!

    David2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Such a magical place. Ardara is a fantastic town. Paula’s recommendations made the trip everything we could have hoped for. Nancy’s restaurant was amazing, the Corner House pub fantastic. Breakfast was the best we had in Ireland. Highly recommend!

The Round House overlooks Fintra Bay and has stunning panoramic views of beautiful Donegal Bay. Situated in the foothills of Crownrad Mountain, a delightful waterfall cascades into several pools on the property. The perfect place to surround yourself in nature. This unique home, built in the 1970's by an american writer still retains most of it's original charm. Located just 2km from the picturesque fishing village of Killybegs, where there is also shopping and restaurants.
The round house, which is made of Cedar is open plan design with windows maximising the stunning view of the atlantic ocean and Donegal Bay. Flat screen TV with satellite channels and free wifi.

Situated in the picturesque, Lough Swilly, this apartment sits on the edge of Fahan beach, with fantastic views of the Marina and Inch Island. It possesses its very own private pathway to the beach. A very relaxed and peaceful area with stunning sea views!
  • Rhona's space is exactly as described. The view is beautiful. We found everything clean, the shower was great and the space heating was also working perfectly. In the kitchen we found everything we needed to prepare our meal. The place offers a washing machine, but it is necessary to bring your own soap. We had an inconvenience with the wifi password (which is not written in the space is only provided on the day of check in via message), because on the day of check in, we spent all day on the road, so we had no internet to check e-mails and messages and so we are left without the wifi password. So, if you are going to be without internet on the day, I advise you to ask for the password first. Besides, everything was great.

    Michelle2020-03-13T00:00:00Z

  • We had a great stay at Kerri’s, I highly recommend. The room was spacious and we had our own bathroom which was very clean. (We we’re also coming off a few stays without having hot shower water, so this really felt like a luxury!) The view from the room was amazing as well.

  • We had absolutely perfect stay. Room is really nice, spacious, and has a bubble bath in ensuite, oh and did i mention the ocean view through your window. What else could you possibly want? There was also a cutest dog to greet us on arrival! Would stay again and again!

A traditional, 200 year old cottage with some modern comforts and many original features. Located on a quiet back road, the cottage is set in private land with a sweeping meadow at the front and many mature trees to all sides. It is about 6 minutes drive from the nearest town (Glenties) and suits those looking for complete tranquility. Good shops, pubs, places to eat in Glenties and nearby Ardara. Stunning mountain and coastal scenery in every direction.
Ideally located along the Wild Atlantic Way, and within easy reach of Sliabh Liag (Europe's highest sea cliffs), Lough Anna Cottage is available to let ideally for four people, though an additional bed can be provided to bring the number up to five. There is a B&B option for up to three people from September onwards. See 'Rates' below. Situated 2km from Glenties, which is east of Ardara and north of Donegal town, this traditional stone-built cottage is about 200 years old. It is in good condition with reasonably spacious and comfortable rooms. It has one medium sized bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two bunk beds (and one occasional, additional bed), a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room with a working fireplace. There is the possibility of an additional bed which can be made up in the room with the bunk beds. The cottage is fully furnished and the kitchen has a large and good quality gas/electric cooker, table, chairs etc. There is also a washing machine, but no television and no tumble dryer. Washing is generally dried on the line outside or on an inside dryer rack in bad weather. Both wood and turf are supplied for use in the living room fire place. The house also has a good oil-fired central heating system. All household linen and cleaning is included in the price. It is set in about an acre and a half of woodland and meadows with its own private drive and parking space. There are two friendly cats, who are around in the garden. They are no longer allowed in the cottage, but live nearby with their owner. Rates: Single night occupancy of the entire cottage is possible. A B&B option is available for up to three people from the beginning of September to the end of April : €35 for a single person, €60 for two, €85 for three. An evening meal can be provided on arrival by request - €12 -€15 per person.

Less than a mile to Slieve League! On the Wild Atlantic Way
Small old Irish cottage tucked away in rural Donegal. Super close to the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Perfect for exploring Donegals natural beauty. The house is fully equipped. And we live 2 minutes away to help you with anything while you stay here. The house is heated by a stove which also heats the water! Please note this is a cottage not a mansion. We do not supply food but we do have tea and coffee available in the house.
Great neighbors great views We are less than a mile to the cliffs. Walking to bunglas view point is about 20/30 minutes or a 5 minute drive. Being away from it all. Closest shop 3 miles away surrounded by hills and sheep!
  • It was a wonderful home with comfortable sleeping arrangements. We loved the suggestion to hike up Slieve league path, great way to start a morning.

  • What a great location, short walk up to the cliffs, Cat was so very helpful when we had an issue with our car, would recommend.

    Stephen2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cat’s place was very comfortable. We were very happy that Cat had prepared the place with a blazing fire as it was January. It’s the best spot to explore Slieve League and we were lucky enough to get up and spot a very clear sunrise. Thanks Cat

    Douglas2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was great, the house has 3 rooms with total for 6 people! Full equipped with everything you would need! Good fireplace to relax in front of! And it's like 5 minutes or less to slieve liege! 100% recommended!

    Carrigans, County Donegal, Ireland

One of a handful of old thatched cottages still left in Donegal. This property nestles in a little hollow, in a peaceful rural setting with beautiful surroundings and a lake within walking distance.
This pretty 150 year old cottage, which has been sensitively restored with many original features retained, has woodburning stoves in both the living room and dining room/kitchen. It is situated in one of the most remarkable and beautiful landscapes in Ireland. If you want to take a step back in time, experience what rural Ireland was, and get away from it all this is the perfect place for you. It is ideal for enjoying the great outdoors before spending relaxing evenings by the fire.
The Fanad Peninsula where the property is situated is an unspoilt scenic area with coastal drives, golden beaches, hedged country lanes and lakes and rivers. The area is good for fishing, golf, walking and relaxing. There are numerous beaches within a 10 minute drive including Balllyhiernan surfers beach and surf school, Drumnacraig beach and Ballymastocker beach. Donegal is home to many Blue Flag beaches, so guests can rest easy in the knowledge that the water and sand are in pristine condition. Fanad lighthouse is a signature point on the Wild Atlantic Way that overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean and only a 15 minute drive from the cottage. Other local attractions include Glenveagh Caste, Letterkenny, Rathmullan, Ramelton, Tory Island, Doe Castle, Downings, and Ards Forest Park which are all within a 45 minute drive. County Donegal also received the honor of being named the coolest place on the planet for 2017 by National Geographic Traveller.

    Kilcar, Donegal, Ireland

Donegal tops the list as the "Coolest place on the planet to visit 2017" - National Geographic Magazine. Our stone cottage is a restored farm building ( originally built 1852 ), a modern touch with tranquil decor. It's behind our home yet private, quiet and tucked away in the countryside. The ancient Beltany Stone Circle and historic Raphoe makes this the ideal hub from which to explore the magic of coolest Donegal.
We are 5 minutes walk from the Beltany Stone Circle c. 3000.BC. An ideal getaway for anyone wishing to escape the pace of modern living. Take a step back in time and relax in our warm, cosy cottage. Donegal is top of National Geographic "Coolest place on the Planet" 2017 - "...you only have to drive a few miles to have a beach or a road completely to yourself. It’s a warm-hearted place, but wilderness always feels just a stone’s throw away. And it is wilderness . . . world-class wilderness. We think it’s due a big year.” Beltany Cottage is the perfect location from which to explore the beauty of Donegal and the northwest coast , 40 minutes drive to beaches, mountains, rugged coastline, and the bogland wilderness. On a clear night you might even catch the Aurora Borealis. Visit Europe's highest sea cliffs Sliabh League or find the start of the Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland's most northerly point , Malin Head. Our hinterland in Derry offers the historic Walled City tour or a drive to the World Heritage site at the Giant's Causeway. In short, Donegal is Ireland in microcosm but unspoilt by motorways and urban sprawls." Up here it's different" come visit us. Places of interest - Oakfield Park/Glenveagh National Park and Castle / Sliabh League Cliffs / Giants Causeway / Derry Walled City / Malin Head/ Wild Atlantic Way. This is Ireland's most northerly point and most beautiful.
We live in the rich pasturelands of east Donegal with rolling hills and patchwork field patterns. This is where you find our quaint heritage village , once a thriving market town with many of its 19th century buildings still adorning the centre. This was an ancient settlement probably before Christianity arrived. The nearby Beltany Stone Circle was an important pre-christian ritual site. Raphoe in gaelic is Rath Both , the fort of the huts, which refers to either ancient dwellings or the holy huts of the monks. There was a monastery founded here by Eunan, the biographer of Colmcille , you will find the 9th century stone lintel of the monastery church in the vestibule of St. Eunan's Cathedral where the clock tower can been found. This historic building is worth a visit and dates back to 12th century. Raphoe also has an imposing ruins of a 17th century castle built by Bishop Leslie, of the Church of Ireland. On the outskirts is Oakfield Park, once the Deanery to the Dioceses of Derry and Raphoe and now a privately run parkland and walled garden amenity in the summer months, there is even a steam train running through the estate. Raphoe is an ideal hub from which to explore the rest of Donegal which might seem small but its almost 150km from Malin Head in the north to Bundoran on the Donegal Sligo border - a two hour drive and that's not taking in the many inlets and rugged coast of the west or the mountain terrain in the centre. You could spend a week in Donegal and only have seen half of it !
  • Absolutely five star accommodation with beautiful countryside and a lovely walk up to the Beltany Stone Rings. Really worth a visit.

    Tracey2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve been a bit slow to post Mary’s review because I simply couldn’t find the words. As Anthony Bourdain said “it’s an irritating reality that certain places defy description....they seem to demand silence, like a love affair you can never talk about. For a while after, you fumble for words, trying vainly to assemble a private narrative, an explanation, a comfortable way to frame where you’ve been and what’s happened. In the end, you’re just happy you were there”. While I’ve taken a few editorial liberties with AB’s original, that’s really it in a nutshell. This residence is special, rare. It’s no surprise that they have repeat guests. We plan to join that list. For the practical thinkers out there - know that the property is nicely situated for good access to Donegal and the northwest. It offers every amenity, generous and available hosts, a magazine worthy environment, and an ancient stone circle 5 minutes walk from the back gate . There are two sweet doggos, a suitably sassy cat, horses walking past from time to time, and Mary’s homemade bread. Go. You’ll never regret it.

    Karen2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were remarkably clean and comfortable. If you want a very private setting, away from noise and bustle, but still somewhere close to most locations, this is perfect. The grounds were beautiful...you could tell there was great attention to detail on everything.

  • Mary’s cottage was peaceful and tranquil, central to visit County Donegal and Northern Ireland. The town of Raphoe was lovely, and far away from hoards of tourists. The cottage is located just behind the main house and so close to the Beltany Standing Stones, which we had all to ourselves! Staying here was truly the best way to experience the Wild Atlantic way of northwestern Ireland. Thank you, Mary, for providing such great tips and snacks for us! It was such a memorable trip for all!

    Courtney2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a hidden gem. Unbelievable cottage with a beautiful garden and Beltany stone circle a stone throw away. Mary was a great hostess, who was generous in providing goodies. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet peaceful place, close to beaches and the coast.

  • Donegal is a magical county, full of stunning scenery and history. Mary’s house was of an extremely high standard, with every possible need and comfort considered. Highly recommended!

  • in raphoe you will find a quiet cottage, which gives you the feeling that you are coming home a bit. Our hostess mary has struggled to make us feel welcome, coffee, cookies, chocolates, something to drink. and to top it all off a very tasty Irish soda bread. at the cottage there is nothing to criticize everything is there, beautifully maintained and relaxing. if you have any questions, mary will help you from tips to where the good food is to even cleaning the cottage. nothing is too much for mary. it is also included that raphoe is actually very centrally located and therefore a good base for the rest of donegal.

    Stefan2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • A heavenly magical spot, the fantastic glass conservatory, the gorgeous gardens and opening the impressive gates to make our way up to Beltany Circle were amongst the highlights. It is a marvelous spot. We only had 3 days and would have loved a week. Mary was a fantastic host full of suggestions and marvelous stories about the area. She helped us out with plans and any of our requests including offering us the lower garden/field/orchard to play with newly purchased hurling sticks. Her recommendations in the book at the house were full of great material. Thank you for a very memorable part of our holidays in Donegal. very best,

  • Fantastic hidden gem of a house. It easily fitted in 10 people with plenty of room to eat, chat, laugh or read. The view from the picnic area was idyllic, and made all the better with the friendly donkeys, horse and sheep in the nearby field. The house itself was perfectly clean. It was lovely and warm with all the amenities we needed. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thank you Randal

Spectacular cliff edge location, wild and remote, 5km from the village of Leabgarrow. The lighthouse, which is still operational, is at the end of the garden. The houses are two three bedroomed semi-detached houses, former Lightkeepers' dwellings.
The remote location.... a house perched on a cliff, at the tip of a remote headland, on an island off the north west coast of Ireland, on the very edge of Europe makes this a unique 'get away from it all' experience. Add to that a functioning lighthouse at the bottom of the garden and you have a place which is very special indeed. The house is one of two semi-detached houses, the second house may also be rented, ideal for a large group.
The island has a population of approximately 500 people in summer, it has a shop, a post office, a restaurant, two small hotels and several pubs. The pace of life is much slower than on the mainland.
  • Amazing location ot is breathtakingly beautiful, we had such a wonderful weekend. Fiona is a great host, we cant wait to come back.

  • Great place to stay. Really remote while being a shirt drive to the pub and shops. Very scenic and a unique opportunity to experience life in a lighthouse for a short period. Fiona was an excellent host and the island is really interesting.

  • A stay at the Arranmore Lighthouse is an experience you will not want to miss. Not only are you perched at the edge of the sea, but you’re in a cool old lighthouse keepers cottage right beside the lighthouse. Talk about atmosphere! You can well imagine the keepers and their families living there long ago. The walks right out your door to the cliffs are phenomenal. It gives you a true feeling of life at the edge of the sea cliffs. The island has lovely people and we felt very safe. I’ll never forget it. What a fabulous time! Thank you Fiona!!

  • We had a great time at this lovely place. The house and the surrounding area are fantastic. It’s very remote and relaxing. The only neighbors are groups of sheeps :-) Thanks Fiona!

  • What a unic place.Feeling far away from the world and some problems; close to nature, fantastic scenery! The accomodation in the historic house something very special and unforgettable.

  • For us the Lighthouse becomes the ranking of a "Sehnsuchtsort". We have found not a lot of them. Surely, that's a very personal view and there are a lot of people, who are missing s.th.. The internet, the pub at the next corner, the urban luxury. We enjoyed to let all this behind us. Thank you Fiona for these great distance to all these daily stuff.

    Georg2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely lovely stay at the Tower House. Fiona was a fantastic host, very communicative. There were lovely welcoming touches; tea and coffee, boardgames and books. The location was breathtakingly beautiful. This was a very unique Airbnb stay.

Step back in time and experience something very unique: A traditional bow top gypsy caravan set in a woodland in the Donegal hills totally off the beaten track. Lovingly restored to a high standard you feel cosy and snug in the midst of nature.
You will find an old horse drawn gypsy wagon which is now set set on a meadow under mature trees. We are a farm producing our own veg and herbs in surrounding gardens. It is a very quiet and peaceful location with streams, lakes and forests all around in the hills of Donegal. The caravan will sleep a family of four: 2 adults and 2 children with two small double beds. The adult bed on top is 6.1 foot (about 1.86m) long, the one below is shorter, about 5 foot long. The caravan is very well insulated and has modern amenities like running water, cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster and can be heated with a modern wall-mounted electric heater with timer which makes it always warm and cosy whatever the weather.
We live about 5km outside the village of Fintown and are linked via a mountainous back-road to the picturesque town of Glenties (half an hour drive). We are surrounded by forests, lakes, streams and rivers on the foot of Aghla mountain. We are located right beside a waymarked walking way called "The Gaeltacht/Sli na Finne Way", which makes it a great place for walking and exploring including lots of other walks and ways right at your doorstep. About half an hours drive from us we have several stunning beaches. The highest cliffs of Europe are nearby as well as Glenveagh National Park. This is also an area well renowned for traditional music. Some famous fiddlers are living nearby and you will find regular traditional music sessions especially in the Glenties area.
  • An amazing little place nested in the middle of wild north west of ireland. Scenery is epic and is like stepping back to calmer times. Marion and Ross are really warm characters and lovely to be around. The wagon is really cozy even in the depths westerly storms and so nice to hear the wind outside when snuggled up inside :)

    Robert2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the wagon. It's the perfect place to get away from everything and immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings. The setting couldn't be more idylic. Our three year old loved everything about it! Marion, Declan and their children are the loveliest people and hugely welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Dinner was delicious. Thanks for the lovely stay and hospitality. We hope to be back!

    Julia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The wagon was indeed wonderly! It is beautifully decorated and very surprisingly warm - even though it was January and cold outside, we only needed to have the heater on briefly in the evening and the wagon stayed warm all night. There is also a heater in the bathroom, which was plenty warm enough. Our mobile signal was almost non-existent in the wagon and the WiFi wasn't working (note that when it is the data is limited so you can't stream TV / films or anything like that), but this should just be temporary. The location is very secluded and peaceful. Marion and Declan were very friendly hosts and we enjoyed eating the dinner they made for us, followed by playing table football and Cluedo with Fergus. We also loved the Indian runner ducks and the two dogs Winnie and Pablo.

  • This was an amazing stay! Most unique place I’ve stayed, such a fun adventure. Out in the beautiful mountains too so gorgeous views of the stars and the sunset as we drove away the next morning. Just fantastic experience all around!

  • We had a lovely stay in the waggon, lovely and warm on a cold windy win tees nigh

    Matthew2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay in this lovely wagon in the depths of winter, with great peace and quiet and a fantastic welcome from Marion and Declan. They very kindly had me in for dinner and provided plenty of information on the area. The bed was very comfy and the remote location was a great bolt hole for a few days of rest. I’ll be back again with some instruments for one of the famous music sessions in the wagon!

    Richard2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Heavenly place & beautiful people<3 This unique wagon experience was like a time travel. Wagon is just amazing and Marion & Declan are wonderfully caring Hosts. You will find all best things in this magic site. It will make you feel safely snugged by the purest nature.

A cute little Log Cabin pod in the garden of our home with an unspoiled view of lough foyle. Fully kitted with En-suite shower room and kitchenette for light cooking. Sleeps up-to 4 people 2 adults and 2 children, also River view apartment beside log cabin available. Thanks :)
  • Caroline was an amazing hostess. From my initial reservation she was very fast in communicating with me. I looked at the reviews prior to booking so I knew I was in for a great stay. Upon arrival caroline was so pleasent and helpful. She even had some beautiful homemade tomato soup fresh off the hob, absolutely wonderful. The cabin was lovely and quaint, perfect for my one night stopover. The cabin contains all you would need and more and the location couldn't be better. I woke this morning looking out onto the bay and also lost myself for a while. Would highly recommend and will hopefully use caroline again if I'm up that

  • Such a brilliant stay, area is so beautiful and you feel very private. Cabin is cosy, even in late November and we definitely could have stayed longer. Hist was just amazing, she couldn't have done any more to make us welcome and even organised our dinner reservation and taxi! Highly recommended

A unique cottage mixing old and new, situated on a quiet lane and only five minutes walk from Fintra Beach, listed in the top 10 beaches in Ireland. A great space to relax beside the fire, cook and enjoy a glass of wine after a day enjoying the fabulous outdoors.
Driftwood cottage started out life as stables for the Hamiliton estate. My husband and I have renovated the house while also adding a modern extension allowing the house to be the perfect blend of old and new. During the day you can relax in the open kitchen and living area. Lighting the wood burning stove which is perfect in the winter or summer to create that cottage feel. The beach, Fintra Bay (listed in the top 10 beaches in Ireland) is a 5 min walk with further popular attractions such as Slieve League, Ardara and Glencolmcille all within driving distance. The quaint fishing village of Killybegs is just a 5 minute drive for groceries, restaurants and pubs. While Driftwood cottage is a short drive away from a number of bustling towns it is placed on a tranquil country road. Allowing you in the evenings to surrender yourself to the pleasures of a big couch and an open fire (a bag of coal, sticks and fire lighters will be left ) in the living room.
When you arrive at Driftwood Cottage you feel that you have arrived somewhere special. The location is perfect for walking, horse riding, fishing, sea angling or just going to the many beaches in the area. With such spectacular scenery on the doorstep you won't get bored. Or just chill out and enjoy the open fire and a glass of wine.
  • We've stayed here a few times- Always great to return. Fantastic spot to get away for some quiet time, shut off all technology & clear the head. Beach just down the road is absolutely superb also!

  • Very nice, cozy and romantic cottage surrounded by a ruff but amazing landscape. The rooms are comfortable and the view is breathtaking. The distance to the nearest beach is walkable. Games, DVD‘s and music are available, but we had absolutely no signal. The kitchen is well equipped so cooking is fun. A supermarket is reachable with a 10 minutes car ride.

Unique and spacious Canadian oak post and beam country house with self-contained traditional cottage attached. Dynamic and truly breathtaking views across the entire Derryveagh mountain range, including Mount Earagail and Muckish. We are only 4 miles from the stunning Wild Atlantic Way coast and beaches. Magnificent walks and cycle paths from outside our door, including the new Burtonport Railway Walk.
This beautiful oak post and beam country house is sandwiched between the Derryveagh mountain range and the Atlantic Ocean in Donegal and is just 20 minutes drive from the Glenveagh National Park, with its castle, lake and golden eagle colony. The local beaches are stunning and offer swimming, sailing, kayaking and surfing opportunities. The property has an optional additional self-contained dwelling - a traditional Irish stone cottage (usually only made available if more than 6 guests, for an extra charge). Both properties are connected by an adjoining door but can be kept separate. The whole property is on a 10-acre site with the Tullaghobegly River on one boundary and our own 8-acre turf bog on the other. It is completely private, surrounded by hundreds of semi-mature trees, planted over 15 years ago. This is an ideal holiday retreat for a large family, or even two families, who want to either relax in a beautiful sun-drenched house, or who want to get out and enjoy the great outdoors - surfing, mountain walks, horse-riding, fishing - there is something for everyone around us. A new 30km walk has just opened (a little like the Greenway in Co Mayo) and the walk passes along the railway line at the top of our property, making a stunning walk or cycling route for visitors. When completed it will be an over 60km walk from Creeslough to Burtonport. Our eco-friendly property is constructed with a large open plan living space with cathedral height ceiling framed by oak posts and beams, with all internal woodwork in solid Canadian oak, and extensive South-facing glazing offering bright, comfortable spacious accommodation with outstanding views across the fields to the mountains beyond. The house is ideal for summer and winter holidays, as it is spacious but very warm. The 3-bedroomed main house is connected to a traditional fully self-contained 1-bedroom cottage with its own bathroom and kitchen (extra charge - please ask). Our entire property is heated without oil, using underfloor heating powered by a combination of an air-to-water heat pump, solar panels, the passive solar gain from the South-facing glazing and a wood-fired stove. The cottage is also heated by the air-to-water heat system, a traditional Rayburn range, and a lovely little cast-iron stove. 2 1/2 acres of the 10 acre site are planted with over 1,000 indigenous trees, some of which are established now for 15 years. The Tullaghobegley river is on the property and forms one complete boundary of this idyllic rural site. Main House 220 sq metre 3 bedrooms 2nd (upstairs) living room with movie projector and screen has a double sofa bed and can be set up as a 4th sleeping space. 2 bathrooms Utility room 1 open-plan Lounge/Dining room/Kitchen Self-contained Cottage 65 sq m (extra charge - please ask) 1 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 Living room, with double sofa bed 1 Kitchen/Dining space
Local people are extremely friendly and will stop and chat, invite you in for a cup of tea, and much more, but will also be discrete and leave you to enjoy your stay. The local area is famous for its intense natural beauty, with walking routes and trails over the peat bog and into the Derryveagh mountains, and is located only 4 miles from the stunning Atlantic beaches of Magheroarty and Falcarragh. Glenveagh National Park, across the Muckish Mountain Gap, is also well worth a couple of visits.
  • I for one can recommend staying here in the depths of winter during a storm. Fantastically cosy and a joy to listen to the mountain winds howling outside, while sitting by the fire.

  • A beautiful house in great surroundings. Good facilities, super communication and check-in. Warm water was a bit scarce so got some cold showers, but apart from that perfect. Would easily rent the house again if I am going back to northern Ireland.

    Anders2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • The house is amazing - made it very easy to have a nice relaxed time. Plenty of room to chill, plenty of room to commune. Also incredible views of both sun rise and set.

    Ryan2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house for a large group, particularly since one needs to prepare for spending a certain amount of time indoors because of the weather. The location was magnificent. The owners and their contact close by were a joy to deal with. Thar a bheith buioch agus sásta.

  • The pictures don’t do this house justice! When you walk in it takes your breath away. Spacious, light and warm. A beautiful place to stay. What a privilege! The wilds of Donegal are at your doorstep. No matter whether you need rest or adventure; this is a perfect base for a spectacular break. Every time you come home and turn the key you’ll think ..wow.. how lucky am I to stay here..

    Fionnuala2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious but homely and welcoming house set in a quite rural area of outstanding natural beauty. We did not want to leave.

    Jennifer2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • The kitchen and laundry room are very well equipped, lovely clean, warm house but don't forget to step outside on a clear night for the fabulous starry sky.

    Sara2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Our family had the best time here. It's remote and that was the charm for us. David and Naesa left plenty of notes about what to do in the area and that was incredibly helpful. We traveled from the U.S. and the driving is challenging. We were able to get around and find all of the spots to visit using Google maps and our rental car had a GPS. The house was comfortable and 7 adults and 2 kids had plenty of space to relax. Keep in mind we rented the cottage space too. It was worth it
