Places to stay in Castroville
A garage apartment with private entrance available in historic Castroville, TX. Come enjoy our 2 acre property located in town with great river access for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Spend the day on the Medina River and/or exploring this historic Alsatian village. Great cozy hide-a-way!
Cozy garage apartment that has all the basics you need for a comfortable stay. Please read the house rules and description of the property to answer any questions. Please note that this is a small comfortable space with a FULL bed (but a NEW mattress) and the bathroom has a small shower. If you need more room, or a space that you can change into your brides maid gown, please rent our Historic Farmhouse instead. :)
Castroville is unbelievably cute, like stepping back in time. Great cafe for lunch, excellent restaurants for dinner, antique shopping, pottery shop and classes, historic homes and sites all within walking or biking distance. See our guidebook in the room for things to do.
  • Great hosts and lovely, cozy space that while small is comfortable and feels part of and integral with the larger property. And the land itself with it’s large frontage and access to the Medina River is simply divine. I’d recommend staying anytime of the year as the town of Castroville has some great food and cafe/coffee spots not found in towns of similar size.

  • Small, but functional, clean, and as advertised. An excellent location if your objective is to explore a very quaint town and have a convenient place to sleep that isn't one of your typical big-box chain hotels. They have a wonderful location right on the river.

  • This is a cozy space in a great location along the river. The set up is simple, the hosts are great, and its a good little getaway from the city.

  • The property is stunning! Beautiful river in the back that you can walk down to. Elizabeth, Robert, Zak, and Zelda were very good at communication. Very nice hosts as they checked up on me through text to ensure I was prepared with enough blankets the night before a cold front hit.

Come stay in one of the historic pioneer homes located in the heart of Castroville, Texas! Located about 30 to 40 minutes from downtown San Antonio, the Charles Naegelin Hüs includes the recently updated original homestead constructed by the Charles Naegelin family over 100 years ago. Follow us on instagram @charlesnaegelinhus
True to the tradition of Castroville homesteads, when you stay here you'll be greeted by two front doors, natural limestone walls, high ceilings, and the historic charm that only the Alsatian blend of French and German culture (with a Texas twist) can offer. Castroville maintains much of the quiet charm of a small town with the conveniences of San Antonio only a short drive away. The approximately 750 square foot Charles Naegelin Hüs includes a full updated kitchen and bathroom, a dining / living / office open area, and a private bedroom. For your use, there is a queen size bed in the bedroom and a comfortable pull-out couch in the living room (it has an extra mattress pad layer on top). We do not provide cable; however, there is Wifi, a television with Roku (so you can sign into your Netflix account), and a DVD player with a sampling of DVDs that guests are welcome to use. You’ll also find some board games for your enjoyment. In the backyard, we have a tree-covered patio area with a picnic table for you to enjoy. Or, check out one of the great restaurants in town! We are a short walk from the Alsatian, the Mangolia Filling Station (coffee house), Castroville Cafe, and Fremdes. If you're in town for an event or festival, we are conveniently located one block from Koenig Park, two blocks from Serendipity, and four blocks from Houston Square. Short drive (approximately 20 minutes) to Hondo or San Antonio (30-40 minutes to downtown San Antonio).
The Charles Naegelin Hüs is located within a designated historical district, ensuring the neighborhood retains its historic value and charm. Castroville is a quiet town with a great food scene, plenty of small boutique and antique shops, festivals, and a quiet ambiance perfect for escaping the city. Castroville is nestled along the Medina River which was the primary draw for early settlers, and remains a picturesque draw today. The Charles Naegelin Hüs is a short drive from the Castroville Regional Park which offers picnic spots, river access, and a public swimming pool.
  • Beautiful home and a beautiful town, both full of rich history and pleasant people! You will love this accommodation!

  • Jenna is a superb host, and the accommodations were beautiful. From the antique furniture and the historic home to the top-notch amenities, our group could not have asked for a better place to stay in Castroville.

    Kory2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful guesthouse in the middle of a quaint, charming town. The space was very clean, stylish and well kept. I loved how quiet it was during our stay and enjoyed the extra amenities that were provided (cooking supplies, a french press, body soap, towels.) I would definitely stay here again!

  • Awesome place and sincerely recommend for everyone!!!

    Felicia2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My favorite spot so far in the San Antonio / Castorville area. Unique, clean, comfortable and convenient location. Enjoyed getting to know the hosts and learn more about the historic property.

    Tim2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Jenna & Adam guest house is super cute! Jenna was always available if anything was needed. Everything was very clean. Plenty of entertainment options available in their living room. It honestly felt like a home away from home.

    Edward2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jenna was a wonderful host with great communication, she responded quickly and helped us with any questions we had! The house was beautiful and spacious (especially for 2 people) and had a great kitchen for anyone needing to cook. The bathroom and living room was beautiful as well. Everything was clean and had all the basic essentials you would need such as cooking oil, water bottles, soda, spices and shampoo and soaps in the bathrooms. The only issue here would be that it was very cold in the winter in the bathroom and living room areas but there were ample blankets and space heaters to compensate for that. If you were in the bedroom or kitchen and turned the heat on it was a lot cozier. The bed was extremely comfortable with nice pillows and a variety of blankets and we slept perfectly. I hope I can stay here again in the future it was lovely!

    Josef2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jenna & Adam’s place is in the perfect location and walking distance to a coffee shop and the famous Castroville Cafe. Their place is both historic and modern, the upgrades are beautiful. We loved every minute of our stay there and the little welcome gift was so thoughtful. We hope to be back soon! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

    Lisa2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and thoughtfully designed comfy little house! I went for a run on the country roads each morning and kayaked all day on the Medina River, drove out to Bandera one day and into San Antonio one night for dinner on the Riverwalk. The house had everything I needed to cook full meals and there’s a Walmart 2 minutes away. This tiny house was completely perfect for a budget vacation. I treasure the memories I made there.

Clean and disinfected! A unique and peaceful restored, historic farmhouse. Originally built in the 1920's the Farmhouse is situated on just under 2 acres overlooking the Medina River. It has an open-concept living space with a central living area, eating area, sleeping loft with great views, a separate second bedroom, and an art studio that can also be used a third bedroom. It features a private screened porch and a large deck with a fire pit and BBQ grill. Easy approach to the river. .
An easy escape from Houston, Austin and San Antonio, Castroville offers the charm of a European village with quaint restaurants and shops. Walking or biking through the streets of 19th-century stone cottages is like stepping back in time. The Farmhouse, on a large lot on a bend in the Medina River at the edge of the historic center, provides a relaxing, park-like retreat. Enjoy private river access for picnicking, fishing, kayaking, or canoeing (bring your own canoe or kayak). For artists seeking studio time in the light-filled art studio, we offer “artist-in-residence” rates depending on how much time you would like to stay. The studio is perfect for drawing, painting, and writing. It includes a large drafting table, work tables, a track-lit wall for hanging work, and a dedicated sink. Reach out to us through airBnB. The bedroom is open by request, or for parties for 6 or more guests.
Castroville is a truly charming and unique Texas town with great cafes for lunch, restaurants for dinner, antique shopping, a pottery shop and classes, historic homes, museums and sights — all within walking or biking distance. It’s a short drive to Paradise Canyon, Medina Lake, the Alsatian Golf Club, and the historic Raye movie theater in Hondo. See our guidebook on the counter when you check in for things to do.
  • Beautiful location. Clean home. Be sure to read all the house rules, including the ones not initially on the manual.

  • Great place to stay!

    Israel2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent communication with us! Had a family work weekend on our family farm... allowed early check in and late check out. Thanks for being so friendly!

    Russell2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth and Robert went above and beyond to work with us when there was a glitch with our reservation. They worked with the AirBnB team to get us a refund after doing us the favor of upgrading our accommodations. Although we ended up not staying at the Farmhouse, we’re already looking forward to our next trip back to Texas when we certainly will. Great hosts :)

  • Nice place!

    Rosie2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The description of the property was accurate and our hosts were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The location of the property is stunning. The Medina river is unspoiled and the town of Castroville is walkable and has numerous architectural treasures to discover. This is a lovely choice if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

    Daniela2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse was gorgeous, clean, and amazing views of the river and fall trees! We found the property as a means of a mini getaway/honeymoon, being married the weekend and family staying at our house. It was fun, inviting, and relaxing with views, nature, and able to use the fire pit with provided s'mores! Thank you again!

  • Donald’s place was very clean and just off the main road which made it quick to get access to the next town nearby. Me and my girlfriend both liked the location as well.

    Oscar2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here was very much conversion therapy. I went in thinking that the trailer life was without glamour; I left a changed man. I think its time to become a trailer boy. Who would have thought that a trailer would have the same amenities as airforce one. We're talking an oven, microwave, washer, dryer, fire place, queen size bed, 2 flat screen TV's, etc. The only extra it was missing was a warm bubble bath waiting for me upon my arrival. If anyone is seeking a 5-star experience out in the country, this is the place to be...

    Venus & Isaac2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for the money. The pics are very accurate and the location was off the beaten path which is what we were looking for for but still a quick drive to River walk and The Pearl.

    April2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • I was in town for a bike race in Castroville. The location was perfect and so was their trailer! I slept so well! The place was sparkling clean and comfy! I will be competing in three more races and hope to stay here again! Five stars all the way around!

    Molly2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough good things about the camper, the setting, the horses, the dogs, and everything. It was simply wonderful. The directions, in terms of checking in (and at night), were very accurate. And response time from the hosts was *very* quick. I really got the time that I needed to rest and recuperate! My best memory was having my coffee the first morning, absentmindedly looking out the window toward the outside-setting, *and seeing a horse.* And, too, the dogs seem to feel that it is *their job* to keep the horses “in line,” so to speak. That was delightful to watch. Thank you, hosts, horses, and dogs – – and setting – – for a *perfect* stay.

  • This property was perfect for our family gathering. There was enough space that none of us were bored the whole weekend. We played outside in the fenced yard and in the driveway. We also took walks through the property. There is plenty of space to play games inside or sit and relax. The dish cable was a plus we enjoyed. Also the gas grill came in handy for a couple meals. We would highly recommend this property. It was comfortable and beautiful inside and outside.

Our little bungalow sits on the Medina River in the History rich town of Castroville. By day take a hike at the park down the street or borrow our canoe to fish or explore the Medina River and town of Castroville. I am always available for tips on things to do or if we dont have plans on a Saturday we would be happy to show you around town! Long term stays are available and always encouraged! Well behaved always leashed dogs are always welcome at a small additional rate.
This was our home that we enjoyed the first 2 years we lived in this amazing little town, now we are opening it up and sharing it with other's since we have built our forever home right behind it, so we are just a few steps away if you need anything during your stay. Our space is private and in a quiet part of the Castroville Historic District. You might hear some of the farm animals of the neighborhood like chickens, donkeys, goats and our friendly neighborhood owl, and during the day my husband does metal art and classic car projects in our garage so you might hear faint sounds of his metal art creations if you are sitting outside. He welcomes guests to come try their hand at some artwork and we can even set up a little class and take home project through Airbnb Experiences. We have animals like chickens, goats, donkeys, pigs, dogs and cats. The chickens roam and if you walk down to the river through our property we just ask that you always latch and close the gate to keep our animals from escaping, the chickens do what they want.
We love Castroville for its rich history and old world feel. We can give you a walking tour map and directions to our favorite spots in town. Our street alone is rich in History. Gentilz St. (our street name) is named after Theodore Gentilz. Louis Theodore Jean Gentilz (May 2, 1819 – January 4, 1906) was born in Paris where he graduated from an art, mathematics and architectural school. He immigrated to Texas in 1844 with the second group of Henri Castro’s (Founder of Castroville) colonists and was one of the founders of Castroville. Gentilz served Castro as secretary and surveyor and led colonizers to settle new towns in Castro’s land grant. He was responsible for drawing the streets out that make up Castroville today.
  • Amazing place to stay! I will definitely be back!

  • Before I rent the room I read the nice reviews about Megan, her lovely family, and her place. I found all of them true. They are warm and welcoming. We had a nice conversation while she invited us for a delicious soup at the evening. They also took us for a tour to the river. We were three people and all of us were happy to have such a nice place to stay at night. The area is 20 minutes away from San Antonio but it’s nice and much safer than San Antonio itself. The place worth the value.

    Abbas2019-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • cute, clean and super friendly. Megan was very accommodating. we had a great trip.

    Holly2019-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Megan was very welcoming. She had wine from a winery in the area. It was delicious. Our room and bathroom was clean and decorated very cute. Her home had a lot of character as it is an older home that they are refurbishing. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

    Antoinette2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Megan and Anthony are more than hospitable! Awesome house with sweet pups and a baby pig. These people can cook! Just bring your appetite. We will definitely be back. Thanks again for everything.

    Mason2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • I spent 4 months with Megan and Anthony... you will love this place. Comfort, dependable, nestled in a quiet suburb of San Antonio., which isn't too far. Don't hesitate to think about it.... book this location and you will be as happy as I was. Enjoy, they are wonderful!

Located in the heart of Castroville, the Inn is a unique destination filled with yesterday’s charm and today’s comfort. True to the Alsatian blend of French and German culture, the two adjoining cottages, originally built in the 1800's and recently updated, are reminiscent of a French farmhouse. The Inn is a short walk to quaint shops and cozy restaurants and is 25 miles from San Antonio's Riverwalk and the Alamo.
The Inn on Petersburg is over 1500 sq ft and sleeps up to 8. There is a full kitchen, four sleeping areas with one king bed, one queen bed and four twin beds, two dining areas, two sitting areas, and two bathrooms. The Inn on Petersburg is equipped with high quality linens, fluffy towels and signature toiletries. There are two televisions equipped with Netflix and TV Plus streaming. Weekend breakfasts include delicious homemade creations, coupled with local sausage, fresh fruit and orange juice. Everything served at the Inn is prepared from scratch using fresh local ingredients whenever possible. Also, there are indoor and outdoor games for your enjoyment. The Inn on Petersburg sits on a one third acre lot with shade trees and two outdoor seating areas. It is a short walk from St. Louis Church, the Alsatian, the Castroville Café, and Fremdes restaurants as well as the Magnolia Filling Station coffee house. If you are here for a festival or event, we are three blocks from Koenig Park and Serendipity and two blocks from Houston Square and the American Legion Hall. Other nearby activities include golfing, a spa, a winery, fishing or canoeing on the river and local historic tours. There is ample parking on the property for our guests. Complimentary bottled water, coffee, and a wide assortment of teas are always available for you.
  • A beautiful house in an excellent location! This was my first Airbnb experience, and it set the bar pretty high. The house, an 1847 Alsatian stucco, has been meticulously restored and carefully enlarged to comfortably sleep eight. The house was spotless, very well appointed, and the decor charming. The hosts were so friendly and communicative. Our whole group was enchanted, and hopes to stay again.

    Donna2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Rich and Sandra, The Inn On Petersburg is amazingly wonderful. We loved it so much. The best way to see Historic Castroville is to stay in one of the historic homes and this was the very best. The home is filled with beautiful period looking furniture. The bedrooms were awesome, beautiful and very comfortable. There are so many sitting areas to just sit and enjoy the beauty of the home. The home is in the center of town and in walking distance to the square and all the little shops. We were there for the Christmas Market and tour of the old homes. Your home is the perfect place to stay. We loved the awesome breakfast each morning. We will stay here in the future. Thanks for this amazing opportunity to stay in one of Castroville's Treasures.

    David2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • For all those visiting Castroville, Texas, I would highly recommend Sandra's BnB. The historic feel along with the location in Castroville make it the perfect stay. The breakfast was awesome as well. We will definitely be staying there again in the future.

The house is perched on a cliff overlooking the Medina River that is lined with beautiful cypress trees. It’s a 10-minute drive to Castroville, the "Little Alsace" of Texas, and a 25-minute drive to downtown San Antonio.
  • Steel Haus is absolutely gorgeous and far exceeded our expectations! We had planned on going kayaking further up the river during our stay however, once we arrived we changed our plans because we didn’t want to leave! The space is amazing and decorated so tastefully. You could spend eternity soaking up the beautiful weather on the back patio. Having direct river access made it even more special! Don’t forget to bring your water socks to enjoy the river. After reading through all the reviews (this really helped us plan our stay and meals) the most helpful reminder was to plan around not having a freezer/ice machine. The host provided us with the most delicious first 6 beverages! Jenny and Clay were very thoughtful and timely in response to any questions we had. Thank you Jenny and Clay! I highly recommend staying here!!!

    Chelsey2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in this home!

    Jessica2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • 4 friends and I recently had a college girlfriend reunion here and had the most wonderful time. The outdoor space and river access FAR exceeded our expectations. The style of the house was amazing; Modern, a touch eclectic, a touch southwestern. The hosts left us some great local beer, and a super cute welcome note on the fridge. All our (very few) interactions were pleasant so that’s always a plus. Somehow we missed that there wasn’t a freezer, so don’t forget your ice chest! But the SERIOUSLY the outdoor space and river make up for ANY lack elsewhere. Stay here, you’re welcome.

    Kacey2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully designed, secluded wonderland. It is the perfect weekend escape to decompress. Jenny and Clay were amazingly accommodating and readily available. 10 outta 10.

    Elise2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Steelhaus was a wonderful getaway location for my small family. I think it’s perfect for a girls trip which I would like to do in the future. There are many areas in and around the house that you can gather or have some quiet time alone. My teenage boys really enjoyed fishing and swimming in the river. We enjoyed breakfast outdoors, s’mores by the fire pit and board/card games at the dining table. I felt the Harmon Kardon Bluetooth speakers were a really nice touch since we listened to music 75% of the time and the hammock was my favorite spot. Jenny and Clay were incredibly fast and easy to stay in touch with. I feel they truly care about your stay and were quick to solve any issues we had.

    Monica2019-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Highly recommended for quick weekend getaway.

    Tri2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at Jenny and Clays Steelhaus. Getting there is a bit of a journey, you have to take your time, but the directions provided are precise and make it easy enough. The view out the back door in the morning is amazing. Having the river in the backyard is truly magical. We really enjoyed BBQing, and spending time in the spacious outdoor areas here. There is ample seating and multiple areas for groups to enjoy time together. I think we utilized every area of this home and weren’t disappointed by any of it. I do wish there was better water pressure, it’s really hard to wash long, thick hair when the shower doesn’t have more than a few drops coming out. But it’s a price I’d pay again for the wonderful experience we had here.

    Courtney2019-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This house was perfect for a fun long weekend with family. The outdoor space and the river were amazing. We enjoyed every bit of it! Huge plus was they had a pack and play that our baby could sleep in so we didn't have to pack ours.

This Castroville country home is a short drive to the best of both worlds. A few minutes from the cute Texas town of Castroville and also a short drive to the city of San Antonio. Great getaway for a few days to enjoy a nice cup of coffee in the morning out on the gazebo swings or on a rocking chair out on the back porch enjoying the hill country breeze.
Please communicate upon check in and check out. Check in is at 3PM and check out is at 11AM. Please be considerate and leave the place clean, such as towels in the hampers in the laundry room and all trash in the trash cans. Unfortunately, we do not have Wi-Fi. There is a TV downstairs with basic cable. Feel free to use your hotspot if you have it and bring any game consoles, firesticks, or etc to watch movies or shows. No pets allowed. We have goats on our property, they are fenced in. You are allowed to pet them, but please do not open the gate where the goats are. Our dog Reba is also roaming around our property all day, she is super friendly and loving and will probably greet you.
It is a short drive to Paradise Canyon, Medina Lake, Medina River Winery, the Alsatian Golf Club and many delicious restaurants and adorable boutiques and shops. We are very close to Sea World and only 20 to 25 minutes away from down town San Antonio. Magnolia filing station for a cup of coffee and pastry is near by, or Castroville Café for a fresh sandwich or soup. Fremdes has amazing pizza and a nice outdoor patio with live music some days. Medina River Winery which is 15 mins away also has outdoor seating and live music at time

    Brentyn2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this lovely house for a long weekend and we really enjoyed the place. Super clean, nice family area with board games for all ages. Our host left some snacks and sweets along with a welcome card for us. Location is about 20 min or so to all main attractions in San Antonio. There is a walmart 5 min away. There are goats on the property that our daughter enjoyed watching everyday. There is a nice gazebo with some swings that we wish we had more time to enjoy. Lovely bbq area that we didnt get to use because we were out most of the time but had everything needed. Comfortable beds and pillows and plenty of supplies. Everything that you could think of in the kitchen for example was available. Maribel and Mandi (who lives in the other house on the property) were always super responsive. We would love to come back again!

    Andres2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Maribel’s stay was beyond amazing. It’s a very spacious home with a lot of peaceful land surrounding the property. There was absolutely no complaints and would definitely recommend the stay to anyone looking for peace and quiet with and having a beautiful home to stay in.

  • Perfect location for BMT graduation for a large family !

    Lily2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Huge, clean, and very comfy house to stay in which is perfect for a large group. There were 17 of us and we all fit perfectly. Everyone loved the massage chair and kiddos loved the arcade and the foosball table upstairs. Kitchen had everything we need from utensils, pans, pots, griller (back patio) and they even had rice cookers. Temperature upstairs was hotter than it was downstairs when the heater was turned on but not really a big deal. Neighborhood was nice and quiet. Check-in and check-out was very easy. And lastly, Jacob and Zia are outstanding hosts. They were so quick to reply to any concerns and questions we had and they really made sure we had a great stay which we sure did. Highly recommended house and hosts.

The home felt lively like our own home. We learned about many local tips about the places in San Antonio. Zia and Jacob were willing to offer all they can. Their wagon was great comfort to our Sea world trip to haul things and kids around. We sure will consider to stay here again in our next visit.

There was enough space for our large party. We were there for the BMT graduation it’s a perfect location. Granted there is traffic trying to get to the base early in the morning but that was expected. I would just recommend anyone going for that purpose leave early! Thanks again.

She's OLD, but she's pretty! Come enjoy a Country Living Experience that's close to San Antonio, Castroville,Hoffman Wedding Venue, Sea World , Lackland Air Force Base and many other San Antonio attractions. The house was built in the early 20's yet she has so much character! Sleep up to 8 with potential for more if need be. This is the perfect weekend getaway for large groups looking for a steal on per night rates. We look forward to hosting your group at our Little Country House!
House does share the property with a Landscaping Nursery. Noise is only an issue early in the morning due to materials being picked up. If you are looking for luxury this probably isn't for you however if you are looking for a Clean and Quiet ADDORABLE country house, this is the place for you and your group.
Castroville is 6 miles down the road. San Antonio is 15 miles down the road. Sea World is 17 miles down the road. Down town San Antonio is a 20 minute drive.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Gabriel and Erica's place!! They left us a super sweet note, snacks, and stocked the mini-fridge! The kids loved playing with the farm dogs/ kitty and on the playground. Great for privacy and large family get togethers 😊

Sleeps 2 in a new house with new furniture in a new neighborhood. The room pictured is upstairs, but I now have a bedroom available downstairs (only room on 1st floor) with a full bath right outside the bedroom which is in the corner of the house. This room is currently not pictured, but is very similar to the one in the photo. No pets allowed unless previously discussed.
