Good location, very quiet.

Easy to reach, all amenities, great hosts ... Don Olman was always aware of anything we needed. Tilapia we brought were too good, super fresh and of good size. We will definitely return, and recommend it !!

The finca carolina is a great place before or after an exit on Tortuguero. Olman is super welcoming and full of advice. Place in nature with a beautiful swimming pool and a fully equipped kitchen. The welcome with fresh coconut is not negligible. Pura vida!

The house is perfactly located next to the Park, so many animals step by because of the large trees: 2 Green aras, apes and more. The host is very helpful and friendly, the breakfast war super large and delicious.

William is a really great host. He sat and spoke with us plenty. Gave us a few free drinks on the house. Helped us book a tour. Theirs a full kitchen downstairs for guest use. The property is cool and really close to the beach . You will enjoy if you stay here.

This is a wonderful place, right on the beach. Williams is a great host and cook. He made us great food for breakfast and dinner. His fruit n yogurt breakfast is great and fish dinner yummy. Our kids liked variety of fruit juices he made particularly with melons. We will be back there again. Fantastic stay to put it in one sentence. Five stars.

The hotel and the room was pretty good just in front of the sea. Quiet and nice place except for the sing of rooster ;-). The hotel is 10 min walk from the harbour. William was available for any questions. I recommend this place.

This was an amazing place to stay! We so enjoyed meeting Rafael and Claire, and found them both to be excellent hosts. We especially enjoyed the tours (canoe, jungle walk, and cacao). We were delighted with the amount of detail and the level of discovery that Rafael was able to share with us when observing animals and plants. We learned later on that he had worked many years with National Geographic. No wonder we felt so immersed in the whole experience! It was like being right in the middle of a documentary. With regard to the cabina, we really appreciated the cooler with fresh ice each day, the hot shower, bug zapper, oscillating fan, good lighting, chairs and table, soap, and basic cold food kitchen supplies (knife & cutting board, utensils, mugs). The indoor hammock was also nice. Having the little bedside lamp was very helpful for getting in and out of bed in the dark. The information and maps provided were very useful as well. Things that might be helpful to know if you're booking here: - The small holes in the yard are crab tunnels, not spider holes! The crabs never bothered us. - There is no mosquito net provided, but the bunk bed (double bottom, single top) made it easy to set ours up. There is also an electric bug zapper lamp thing. - The wooden walls have a few tiny gaps between boards, but we never found bugs to be an issue. The screens on the windows did a great job of keeping the bugs out. - You're right next to the jungle, so you will likely hear all kinds of wildlife, especially in the night and early morning. We heard the deep growls of howler monkeys, a rooster, and many birds. The fan in the room can drown out some noise if needed, but we found the animal sounds to be part of the awesome experience of being in the jungle. - The cabina is located next to the national park entrance, which sounds like it would be noisy, but it isn't. It's at the far end of the main walkway, and especially at night, very little human activity is heard. We found it to be very peaceful! A small note about Tortuguero in general: bring a flashlight/headlamp! Some places are not lit by street lights. Rafael went the extra mile by making sure we connected with our boat taxi. He and Claire gave our holiday a great start! We definitely recommend staying at the cabina, and highly recommend any of the tours they offer! The cacao tour specifically is very hands-on and interesting. Very much worth the money! Both Claire and Rafael speak very clear English and Spanish, and Claire also speaks French. Rafael and Claire were a highlight of our time in Tortuguero. My sister and I visited for a couple nights, and while the accommodations are basic, they are comfortable and in a prime location right at the entrance to the national park. We did the morning canoe tour with Rafael, who is very knowledgable about the plants, animals, and wildlife in general. The two of them really go out of their way to make their visitors feel welcomed, and were helpful in checking in / checking out and providing suggestions for restaurants, tours, etc. We could not have been happier with our stay!

Rafael cabin is literally at the entrance of the park, it is an excellent location. We were greeted in a very friendly, he showed us the cabin (which is beautiful) and stay at our disposal, on the day he is in his business right in front of the cabin and at night at home just behind steps. 100% recommendable

If you drive to Tortuguero, I recommend expressly Rafael's accommodation! Nine months of the bungalow only under his belt and he also looks, sparkling, what luxury! He is quiet, yet all within easy reach by foot. We had to take the luck two tours with Rafael and enjoyed each, competent and likeable, second. Breakfast you can also confidently in the first soda, ca150m left from your bungalow. When we come back at some point to Tortuguero, to the question is not where we spend the night .... when Rafael!

This place is in a perfect location for visiting Tortuguero national park, and for seeing wildlife. The cabin is simple but has everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Rafael and his wife were excellent hosts and were able to answer any questions we had, as well as suggesting activities for us to do. I highly recommend staying here!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was number one in our books. Future plans for expansion include kitchen facilities which will be great for longer stays, however, there are many good eateries available around. Location was ideal, near the park and close to the water. Our tour with Rafael was excellent. Rafael is very knowledgeable and we learned so much, not only about flora and fauna of the area, but also about Costa Rica in general.

We immediately felt at home! Willis and his family gave us the Caribean and jungle experience in one. Great food, nice cabins and of course great tours!

We always keep Willis and his wife in our hearts. These people are very generous and extremely kind. The decor is pleasant, the animals roam in peace, flowers and birds abound. The lodges are very clean and offer good comfort. I highly recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I stayed at William’s Gecko de Tortuguero for three nights while we were travelling around Costa Rica. William provided helpful directions to getting to Tortugero (eg, which bus to take to ensure that we made the boat), and made sure that one of his guides met us as the dock. The rooms are located 50m from the ocean side of Tortuguero, and at 5-minute walk from the main stretch. This ended up being ideal, as it was incredibly convenient to get to the center of town, all the while allowing for a bit more seclusion from the rest of the tourists. All in all, William was very hospitable, and we loved our stay in Tortuguero. I would strongly recommend staying with William.

This B&B is about a 10 minute walk from the village. When dark you will find it lit, for most of the entire walk. Could not be more convenient for accessing the beach. The veranda is very very nice. The breakfast sufficient. No Wi-Fi to access, so we spent much much time in village, at Sotos where access to Wi-Fi was available. We would have spent more time at William's, had Wi-Fi been offered. Well he has no control, the rooster was a vocal from 3 AM on. Between 8 and 10 you drift to sleep with the sounds of kids and barking dogs, from next-door. William is eager and sincerely desires to care for his guests. We appreciated his offer to toss some things in the laundry one day.

Gecko de Tortuguero was a wonderful ocean side retreat, and William was an excellent host! He made us feel very comfortable, received us at the ferry station, and went out of his way to make sure we had a great trip! When my brother and I did not have proper shoes for the night turtle watching tour, within minutes, William arranged for rubber boots and also offered his own shoes! He helped us book ferry tickets that suited our timings, and cooked amazing carribean meals for us. He is very dedicated to make sure his guests truly enjoy their visit. I highly recommend his place to anyone visiting the region!

Small very basic room on a beautiful site. We did not know that the room overlooked the sea, it was a nice surprise, we could hear the waves at night. Excellent lunch for $ 6.

William is the best host I have ever had. The property is worth considerably more than the asking price. It is located right on the beach and on the National Park. The rooms are simple but very nice. I was even picked up from the airport. Should you stay somewhere else, you must at least come to dinner at the Gecko. William is in fact also an exceptionally good cook.

This is the best place to stay in Tortuguero! Right on the river on the most northern part of town, we loved our peaceful stay. With hot water showers, a beautiful view to enjoy the boats and wildlife going by, this is the place to stay! We will be coming back when the turtle are their next time.

This was a great place to stay in Turtuguero! Bill met me at the dock, showed me around, and told me the best tours to take. I was very comfortable with the accommodations and the location was a few minute walk into town. The beach is just across the path and you can hear the waves. There is also a resturaunt next door. Would recommend staying at Bill's to anyone visiting Turtuguero!

Not a fancy place but had all the things you need. Bed, fan, electricity and water. It was very neat and clean. It was really nice to hear the ocean from my bed while I was falling asleep. And you sleep really well when it starts to rain and you hear the rain hitting the tin roof.it Reminded me when I stayed in Dominican Republic for my summer vacation when I was a kid. Bill was very helpful and told us how to get around tortuguero. He was a really nice guy and I enjoyed my stay there and will be planning to cone back again.

Unfortunately I could not visit Bill's place as I could not catch the boat, but he helped me a lot and all the time I had questions he replied fast and very accurately. I appreciate his help I hope we can meet in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at Bill's Place. The bungalows are facing the Caribbean beach and are a short walk from thick jungle where we saw a family of monkeys! The shower is not heated which I actually found refreshing given the hot and humid climate. Bill met us at the boat dock, showed us around the island and helped us get in touch with tour guides who led our fun turtle night hike.

Bill greeted us on the boat dock, even though our arrival was delayed by 2 hours after we missed the bus. The location is great- with a view of the beach, about a 3 minute walk from the center of town. It was also quiet and you can hear the waves while you sleep. Bill was very helpful before and upon our arrival and assisted with tours and transportation out of Tortuguero.

Bills Place is absolutely amazing, we had a great time. We had some nice conversations with him and he gave us lots of great tips for staying in Tortuguero. His self-made cabinas are designed with a lot of love and simply beautiful. The cabina is located near the sea, so can hear the sound of the sea when you fall asleep.

Great spot right across from the beach! On the opposite site from the lagoon/all of the activities, but you can walk there in 5 minutes. A helpful map was given of the area. Wifi wasn't great in my room, but I managed. It was a good stay!

distance. it had ac and a nice shower. We asked for a broom to do our own tidying because it's easy to track in a lot of the gritty sand from the walking paths. The dinner restaurant is lovely (only dinner). The menu is limited, but we ate there twice and ordered the same thing: grilled fish, potatoes, fresh veg, "salad" plate which is sliced tomatoes, dukes, carrots, mad for dessert brownie with ice cream. The cocoa in the brownie is from his mother, rosa's, cocoa trees that they harvest and process. Ray says they are the only family still doing this. Ray plays great music and it is romantic and relaxing

The place is very nice and well located; a few meters away is the beach and the center of Tortuguero. Alexandra is not, but Taylor King serves you which is helpful. The room is fine, maybe a little small, but the bed is comfortable. The only "but" we would put serious bathroom that besides being tiny, is quite old.

Taylor's place was very good to stay! They welcom you with open arms! So friendly! We stayed only for one night and it was really beautyful! It's clean and close to the beach and the main street! They have her own restaurant and it was soooooo delicious! We would come again!

Alexandra was very helpful before our arrival because he was attentive and accessible to all our requirements, but we did not met in person we are very grateful! Taylors is a cozy place and had everything stated in the notice. The value found it very adequate.

The accommodation was basic but clean. The owner was very helpful and all in all one can recommend the hotel. Tortuguero was an important part of our Costa Rica stay. Nowhere else we had such an intense jungle experience as there. An incredible variety of plants and animals other interesting things that you get to see.

the first place till the beginning of my trip in CR (3 weeks) where I didn't have the feeling to be in a huge tourist trap! You get a very good stay for the price of 25 USD per night,Marina and Alejandro do their best to make your holidays the most confortable. Don't hesitate to book the canoe tour with Alejandro,It was one of the best time here in CR (even if you have to pay the (URL HIDDEN) N.P entrance!!!!) and make you forgotten the bad experience of MANUEL ANTONIO N.P . For sure I highly recommend this place till they are practising this level of price.

Delightful! Someone picked us to the boat to guide us to the hotel a few meters away! The place is beautiful, well maintained! The room is very clean and the bathroom also. It has a large shower. The mattress is a little hard but for one night it was not too annoying! Good advice on activities and restaurants on the island. We spent a great time and meet other travelers in the common room. We recommend not hesitate because the price / quality ratio is top!

Marina and Alejandro were great! They helped us set up transportation from San Jose to Tortuguero for $45/person, which is cheaper than I researched online. Alejandro met us at the boat dock to help us with our luggage and walked us to Aracari Garden. The room was cute with our own bathroom. The bed was super comfortable, like a temper pedic bed. Also, the fan in the room was very useful since it was still pretty warm at night. There was also a very cute common area with dining room tables, couches, and hammocks and a kitchen if you wanted to cook. Marina was always available at her desk if we needed anything. She gave us food recommendations and things to do within the village. We did the canoe tour into the jungle and got to see awesome animals (caimans "crocodile-like" in petting distance, turtles, iguanas, lizards, many different birds). They also helped us with tours and transportation that we were interested in for the next city we were going to visit! They were truly awesome and helpful. We highly recommend this place. Also this place was more centrally located to the village than other hotels, that were more in the perimeter. Wifi worked great.

We visiting during the slow season but didn't feel that way! The food was fresh and delicious, the staff (especially George) were beyond helpful and the location was amazing! We barely left the resort because of how much we loved it! And highly recommend a meal at the Wild Ginger (right off the beach)

We had an awesome time at Totuguero, because of Betty and Alonso. The room had the basic things, was cleaned up and totally fine for backpackers. We would recoment the turtel night tour and the canoying tour with Alsonso, because you will support native people who offer you a lot of Informations. Don't miss the breakfast from Betty, typicall and very tasty. She is every time open for a little chat, so you can learn more about the little island and her citizens. Thank you for everything! These hosts are awesome. Very friendly and accommodating. They both spoke english which was very helpful for us. The location is perfect as you are in the village without being right in the middle of the action so you can get some rest if you wish. Breakfast was very delicious and made our stay super affordable. Highly recommend this to anyone wanting the "local" experience in Tortuguero.

Everything is timeless as Tortugero.

All thumbs up. The accommodations were meticulously clean. The bed and room comfortable. In the morning you hear the tropical birds and the village rising to a new day. It rained a good part of the time but only added to the experience. Rain provided for a relaxing venue, a day of reading or a lullaby for going to sleep. Rubber boots this time of year is part of the wardrobe for any one into fashion. Beyetty and Alonzo were terrific hosts. Welcoming and kind. Enjoyed several of their guided tours. The canoe trip into the jungle is a must. Alonzo amazed me with his sharp sense of smell and knowing what animal left it. His sharp eye for spotting wildlife and giving clues of where to look made it a fun and learning experience of the animals/reptiles habitat. I stayed a day more than originally planned and hope to make it back there before the end of my Costa Rica trip. This next comment is related to transportation to Tortuguero, I suggest to leave a window of time open at end of trip as weather may cause a delay in your departure time if traveling by bus. The rain had flooded the roads between La Provona and Cariari. No worries though. 4x4 trucks will load passengers and luggage and take you to meet the bus on the road. I loved the village life. Thank you Alonzo and Beyetty, wonderful sweet people for making this a Great Experience

We stayed two nights at the home of Betty and alonso and could not be better. Alonso Born in betty turtle and takes most of his life there with what some experts are knowledgeable about the whole area. Alonso made the tour of the turtles at night and canoe tour through the national park. It is a reference guide for all (they even let us stay ahead of other groups). Last night betty cooked us a delicious chicken coconut! Even after we were making a very pleasant sitting with her. It is a charm. If you seek a real turtle accommodation this is the place (no frills, simple and clean), and with a friendly, welcoming amfitriones!

Pick up from the dock was a great way to start even tho everything is very small on the island and probably could find it on your own! The room is simple but clean and everything you need! The breakfast is great and as all the comments before and the reason why we picked this room is Alonso! We did the hike on his property which was awesome but make sure you rent boots :-) and we did also the boat trip at 6am with him!!! He is great let's say awesome in spotting the animals and knows almost everything!!! The big plus is that you are on your own and not with a big group of tourists for the same price!!!! Will always recommend to stay at his place!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Very clean, central and affordable place. The super rich breakfast and very friendly service. The neighbors are a bit noisy, but not just late.

This place obviously got all the good reviews for the owner's great personality and effort. We also had a okay-stay only, because the owner's were not there. The place itself is VERY basic, no fan, no hot water in our room. The room was spacious and ok-clean. Towels never got changed, floors never cleaned during our stay, trash cans not emptied. We found one cockroach in the room. Luckily it was the only one. The first night was horrible! Party music til 3am. We felt like we landes in Cancún and not in Tortuguero at the end of the world... But this seems to be a weekend thing. The following nights were quite! The place is in the middle of everything in Tortuguero, which is nice. Many restaurants and shops close by. The nephew of the owner was present during our stay and tried, but communication was not that great. He gave advice about tours that we could book with his uncle, but it's the same as all the other tours in Tortuguero. They told us that we cannot walk in the national park without a guide, so we booked a walk with the uncle. Turns out, you can of course walk there without a guide! Same as in all the other NP in Costa Rica! Of course you have to be careful with snakes, but if you wear closed shoes, it's completely fine. The tour was ok, but we didn't feel like it was worth $70 for 2 persons ($15 is entrance fee for the park, everyday!). We wouldn't recommend Tortuguero in general. It's a tourist rip off. The town is cute and most people are friendly, but it's not worth the long journey in our opinion. Rather go to Cahuita instead!

The check-in was great, the nephew picket us up on the boatstation. The nephew was nice, we had a great Tour with him on the national park and the breakfast from him was lovely. The room was ok, but the Bathroomdoor was broken.

Listing description was not accurate. A picture is worth a thousand words. The place was definitely doctored for photos. We were extremely disappointed when we arrived. We got mislead by the photos, furthermore, go with the tour guides so you do not get taken. Better yet Stay at The Tortuguero Lodge.

Nice welcome at the boat pier and brought to the hotel. Good information on tours and boat transfers. There were some problems with the showers, which lead to an electroshock (bad connection of the electricity wires used for heating the water).

The room was so disappointing that we had to cancel the second night's reservation. There were black dots on the bedsheets (not sure if this was dirt?), black mould in the fridge and rust/thick layers of brown dust all over the fan. It was a rainy night when we had stayed there, and water was leaking through two spots in the ceiling. 25% of the bed was wet and completely soaked by the next morning. This was a very unpleasant experience indeed.

We were in a house in the heart of the village of tortuguero. We heard the howler monkeys from our bed, sweet :) The manager of the hotel was very well received and we were able to visit the island with him, it was great! PURA VIDA!
