  • Irma was a wonderful host. They run a busy farm but go above and beyond for their guests. Our bedroom and bathroom facilities were closed off from the rest of the house which gave us some privacy. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The stars were amazing at night! A great place to stay halfway up to the Cape!

  • Though I was only there for one night, I had a lovely stay with Irma and Bryce. They were very friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, and I had the big bathroom to myself. I recommend looking at the stars at night. The Milky Way looked close enough to touch.

  • We stayed here for its relative proximity to Cape Reinga and it was exactly what we needed, with a comfortable bed, great shower and full kitchen. It was also super quiet, had no mosquitoes, and came with chocolate fish (which we didn't need, but ate anyway, just to be polite :-) )

Pristine beaches such as the beautiful Spirits Bay. Surf the nearby Te Paki sand dunes, all these are within a 20-30 minute drive. 15 minute drive to nearest Restaurant, Dairy and Petrol Station. • If looking for a place to stay in the real far north, this one should be on your list. The house was fantastic and comfortable, the hosts are super friendly (in a totally non-intrusive way). Best of all, the house has an amazing oven/cooktop ( the big 6-burner ones). Would totally recommend.

    Chris2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My little family and I had an amazing stay at this holiday home situated in such a beautiful hidden gem called Te Hapua. I loved every moment of my stay especially enjoyed meeting the locals and loved the view of the scenery. I went for walks with my little boy and we came across friendly horses that walked freely with us as well as other animals and this was so special to experience it. We have left with great memories from staying here. I definitely recommend this air BnB and will definitely be returning again.

  • Tui and her parents are very friendly, easy to communicate, the house is super clean with beautiful ocean view. Will surely come back.

    David2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • WiFi was great. House was warm with heater. Clean. Oven/stove nice and large and BBQ was there for our use. Boards were left at the house for the sand dunes as well. Extra blankets and pillows. Overall great experience and so happy with our stay. There were 7 of us and we all loved it. Thank you!

    Lagi2019-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great place for stopping while seeing the sites in Northland. This place has a really cozy feeling and something about it feels like home. There is also plenty of space for groups! We had a great night here.

    Tatum2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our family of three and a dog have had a pleasant weekend here. The town has to go around the mountain, a bit isolated. Haha, the night is quiet, the stars are bright, and the dog runs freely in the yard. Driving to Cape Reinga and Giant Sand Dunes are very close, the room has surfboards and beach towels, very intimate. The house is a bit far from the shopping store. If you go, it is best to bring enough food.

    C2019-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • A great location and a cozy house with plenty of beds! I would recommend to anyone who is planning a northland trip.

  • Jan’s place is awesome! It’s rustic but incredibly comfortable. It was very clean and had everything I needed. I spent two nights here and could not recommend it more. Also, a plus, her dog and the neighbor’s dogs are incredibly hospitable.

    Rudy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • I heart Campkoo. This place oozes with character and laid back charm and is excellent value for money. The outside open doored composting toilet might not be to everyone’s taste, but I loved sitting on it and looking out at the trees while the fantails flew about nearby. The outside shower amongst the bamboo was also a delight. But most delightful of all was host Jan and her daughter Polly. Such wonderful hospitable people. I hope very much to come back to Campkoo and the fabulous far north of NZ.

    Elizabeth2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Campkoo is a house in the middle of the garden. Comfortable beds, a small kitchen equipped with all necessary utensils. Outdoor shower next to the bamboo (pleasantly warm water), compost toilet-super comfortable with a view of the garden. A simple wonderful place and Jan is a very warm woman. We stayed 2 nights to visit Cape Reinga and the great Rawara Beach (thanks for the tip) and felt very comfortable.

    Jutta2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay, off the grid à perfect place to unwind. Jan is a lovely and very thoughtful host, highly recommend!

    Christina2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Simple, clean place to relax

    Zita2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jan's spot is a kiwi place not to be missed. Aptly named Campkoo , it is indeed a glamping experience set in a quiet area very close to the main road to Cape Reinga, only over an hour's drive away. You are welcomed on site and taught how to master the clean composting toilet and outside warm shower. Then you are left totally for your own private enjoyment of the peace , birdlife and brilliant stars at night. The Milky Way is easily seen from the cosy verandah. You can even hear the roar of the waves on 90 mile beach if the surf is up at night. If you have not experienced the outdoor life of camping in NZ then you need to try this comfortable style that Jan had created. Jan's thoughtful little extras like good coffee and breakfast items all add up to an enjoyable stay. Linen is fresh and clean and the bed is comfortable. Recommended!

    Marion2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Jan is a super lovely host. The location is very great on an avocado plantation, the hut has a great garden and is very nicely decorated. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

    Lea2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our simple life at Jan’s place. An open-air dunny to contemplate life at, a shower not for prudes, a lovely cottage with good bed, a kitchen stocked with fresh eggs, fruits, etc. Jan is such a warm person. Yoko, the dog, will offer her fat tummy for pets. The darkness is complete at night, you can see zillions of stars and constellations. There are nice private beaches around. The Waipap pub has good beers. Nothing is missing for a relaxing holiday.

Welcome to Waikorotangi, a retreat! A large 3 bedroom family home providing visitors and families with all the comforts of home. Te Kao is located 45 mins north of Kaitaia and within close proximity to the local beaches. On the east coast is the silica sands of the Parengarenga harbour and the Ninety Mile Beach which stretches along the west coast of the Aupouri Peninsula. The local shop is a favourite stop over for tour buses on their way to Cape Reinga, Waitiki Landing and Te Paki Station.
The kitchen is modern with microwave, double oven & hob, dishwasher, extractor fan, vertical fridge-freezer with water and ice / crushed ice dispenser. Fyi - The "down lights" in the lounge, dining and kitchen are on a timer. If you happen to fall asleep on the lounge while watching TV, the likelihood is you will wake up and find parts of the lounge/dining or kitchen 'lit up' or 'in darkness'
A quiet peaceful surroundings but within 10-15 minutes of the nearest beaches, and a nice 45 minute drive to Waitiki Landing, Te Paki station and Cape Reinga. Te Kao is a small community of about 300-400 people. The local store boast some of the biggest ice-creams in the country and is the topmost dairy in New Zealand. It is a popular stop for many tourist buses on their way to Cape Reinga. They also sell local arts and crafts, kete, backpacks, hats and flower arrangements all made by local weavers using korari (flax). The pingao (a smaller type of flax) is used for the more elaborate designs, buttonhole, sprays.

The cottage is roomy, warm and comfortable. Oh, I forgot to say charming as well. Guests can enjoy all amenities, relax on the deck, walk around the farm and we're on site to help with any information required.
If it's peace and quiet you are seeking then this is the cottage for you. Cosy and self contained, this is the ideal place to relax after a busy day at one of the magnificent far north beaches or a trip to Cape Reinga. The covered deck offers shelter from the elements as you sip a glass of wine and watch the bird life on the Monet Replica Pond whiie your steak sizzles beside you on the gas BBQ. Don't be put off by winter - it's not usually cold here anyway but we provide loads of firewood for the attractive wood burning freestanding fireplace so you will be toasty warm and cosy while you relax in front of the TV, watch a DVD or play a game of scrabble. It's great fun and very easy to dig up Tuatuas on Ninety Mile Beach. Bring them home and eat, steamed - delicious with fresh bread and butter and a cold beer. The well equipped kitchen makes meal preparation easy and it's not far to local restaurants for sit down service or takeaways if that's your preference. The large refrigerator and ample shelving allow guests to shop in advance for self catering. Free WiFi is available along with TV and a good selection of DVD's. Ducks and herons visit the pond regularly and a delightful range of birds flit to and fro amongst the trees. Our own family of 5 ducks provide endless entertainment as they go about their daily business. Stroll amongst the King Protea flowers grown for the export market or pop over the bridge and visit the horses. Rabbits, hares, quail, turkeys and various other small wild creatures will pop up and surprise you every now and then adding to your experience of kiwi rural life. Protea Park cottage is near to the east coast beaches, Rarawa and Henderson Bay, fantastic for diving, fishing, swimming and surfing. And it's not far to 90 Mile Beach on the other coast and chances are you will spot herds of wild horses on your way. The East coast beaches are very special with Rarawa having almost white sand while the sand on 90 Mile Beach is golden. It's an easy drive to Cape Reinga on sealed roads with little other traffic. Enjoy the wonders of Northland - take side trips to Spirits Bay, Te Hapua, Taupotupotu, Parengarenga, Scotts Point, the Bluff.
Once a month a market is held in the area selling local produce and crafts.
  • Stunningly beautiful place, lovely hosts (including the incredibly friendly dogs!), lovely scenery on your doorstep. We only stopped for one night whilst we were passing through but it's a shame we couldn't stop for longer.

  • Irma’s place was exactly as described, and she was very welcoming, especially to our children. She sent us some great advice about where to pick up groceries on our drive up North, and I’m glad we listened to her! The queen bed was very comfortable and everything was clean.

    Laura2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Very peaceful and surrounded by animals. Definitely worth a stay. Irma was friendly and left us to chill on the deck and enjoy the farm

  • The place is clean. All the amenities work just fine. Pretty well stocked of cooking utensils and whatnot. Wifi comes from the neighboring house. It's got good speeds but it's stronger on one side of the house than the other. It sits on a farm with cows, chickens and dogs. They're all quiet and behaved. I enjoyed the animals. It's up a gravel road a bit. Easy drive. The parking area is on grass, a raised (10cm or more) area just left of a deeply worn dirt driveway. My SUV did fine. I'm glad I wasn't in a car though. It's a reasonable distance to Cape Reinga and the dunes. This is a good spot that accommodates a lot of sleepers. It's a pretty good spot. It's got a fun rural living feel.

    Michael2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • A simple but very homely farm house just off the main road to the far north. Rawara Beach is very close and is a must visit. A great place to stop over on the way to or from Cape Reinga.

    Peter2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, spacious, immaculate service, the best you can get. Don't think about it just go for it.

    Himanshu2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • It's great place for your family stay in a great location. Definitely recommend to all. Kids will enjoy the friendly cat, Dog and farm animals.

this is a farm house not a city apartment. I love it so let's hope you will love it too
this place is a place for animals with 8 different breeds of dogs. my daughter and I are here. both us have our dogs close by us inside and outside of house so if you are not use to dogs or animals I would say it is not the place for you. but saying that most people that do come end up having a good time with the dogs or animals. if you arrive late dogs will bark just natural. we are only 45 mins from the cape and only mins from our amazing beaches here in the north.
  • Very good for the price. The hosts are super friendly and won’t turn around people who don’t have a place. Very accommodating. Karen wasn’t there but the daughter was super nice and helped us a lot. Maybe bring some insect repellent

    Caroline2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The house is rustic but well equipped. Above all, we were very well received. Our children are very lively, but our hosts have been as pleasant as they are considerate. I recommend for families accepting a moderate level of comfort.

    Franck2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you love dogs, horses, pigs and cows, then Karen’s is the place for you. It’s full of life from sunrise to sunset! Karen and her daughter go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. They are such lovely, genuine people, and we really enjoyed getting to know them. Hope to see you guys soon!

  • Great farm stay. Karen is very friendly.

    Ianina2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was an extremely sweet host. She greeted us in person even though we arrived late. She gave us awesome tips about things to do in cape reinga. She also brought introduced us to her pony upon arrival which was definitely a unique air Bnb experience! Plenty of animals on her farm to pet including calves, horses, pigs, dogs and ducks. Karen also provides a yummy breakfast which is a thoughtful addition. Overall a great experience!

  • 60 km from cape reinga, it is a very good transfer station. The host has a large ranch, a dozen horses and 7 dogs, suitable for animals. The infrastructure is relatively simple and should not be compared with hotels.

Enjoy your own piece of Houhora in our modern comfortable studio overlooking the Houhora harbour. We are just a stones throw from the wharf so you can cook your own catch in our kitchen with a view. Otherwise, for those who prefer, the local shop, cafe & liquor store is across the road! Pukenui is a great stop on the way to or from Cape Reinga. We are in the heart of Pukenui, a small quiet community. As hosts we share the property should you need any assistance during your stay.
Accommodation configuration options are either one super king or two king singles with one queen sofa bed. We have a self catering kitchen with hobb and microwave. Kitchen is equipped with basic cooking utensils, including electric frying pan. Freeview television is also available.
  • Jacqualine's place is one of the best airbnb's we have stayed in. The views are incredible and the thoughtful touches added to the stay. Can not rate this stay high enough.

    Pukenui, Northland, New Zealand

Our mum Judy hosts this special place, her NZ home, that’s perfectly located 1km from the Houhora Headlands & cafe, 10km from ninety mile beach, 5km from Pukenui village shops & 1hrs drive to Cape Reinga. Recently renovated, beautifully appointed & set amongst stunning, sub-tropical gardens, the hut is private, comfortable, self contained & detached from the main house. The Far North offers some of NZ’s most spectacular surroundings.. relax, unwind and enjoy natures beauty & tranquility.
A comfy, cosy, modern/rustic space in the heart of the far north, with a little hint of luxury.
The Far North is unquestionably one of New Zealand's best kept secrets, where you can enjoy sunrise on the east coast and sunset on the west... all in one day!! Enjoy exquisite scenery & activities, including stunning beaches, coastal walks, fishing, boating, swimming, surfing, sightseeing, sand boarding or simply just relaxing, amongst friendly, welcoming locals, while you take in the breathtaking views.
  • Let yourself be pleasantly surprised.

    Andreas2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The place is really fantastic, it’s peaceful, quiet, super clean and confortable. You can come and relax with a beautiful garden view. The location is nice , you have everything around, shop, cafe... Perfect spot to discover Cap Reinga and all the beautiful places around. Breakfast was really nice too. Highly recommended.

  • Staying at the Hut is a wonderful experience! The hut is modern and decorated beautifully. Judy’s gardens are spectacular. We loved staying there!

    Daphne2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for two nights to go to Cape Reinga, which is an hour drive away (there are not many accommodations around Cape Reinga). Their AirBnB looked nicer than the photos, it’s a really cute space and great for a couple. Everything was clean. They provided a lot of food for breakfast, including fruits, eggs to cook, cereals, milk, bread, jams & butter. There are not many restaurants in the area, so having a kitchen is convenient & essential! I recommend buying something to cook/eat beforehand (there’s a FourSquare nearby but they close early) because there are not many grocery stores in the area. There’s a fish & chips store 10 minutes away by car that is open till late. I wish I had booked this place more than 2 nights! The Far North is such a beautiful region and this AirBnB is one of the most comfortable places I’ve ever stayed :)

    Maxwell2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A friendly welcome is complemented by this wonderful place. A lovely garden. Very comfortable bed and all round relaxed yet stylish surroundings.

  • This is ideally located for exploring Northland up to the Cape The accommodation is very modern, clean and comfortable with quality bedding, crockery, and lots of extras It is ideal for couples and is so peaceful and relaxing after a days sightseeing Good takeaways close by if you do not feel like cooking

    Sarah2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stylish space with all the basic amenities you could want. Nice touch with the breakfast :) and fresh towels on a second days stay which quite often you don’t get. Great base to get around the far north and see the sights. Really enjoyed our stay.

Nestled in the hillside of Parengarenga Harbour 4kms down Paua Rd which is gravel 1.5 hrs north of Kaitaia about 30min to Cape Reinga. Te Kao Store 20min south. Chest freezer for fisho's. All linen supplied. BYO food/clothes. Check In 12+ - check Out 10am. Enjoy.
This is a rustic little cottage but has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Guests have access to the area immediately surrounding the Bach itself. There is a working oyster farm to the rear and below the Bach. We would ask guests to refrain from removing or interfering with any oysters or equipment therein. Due to work commitments it is regrettably not possible for me to meet with guests in person. While there is cellphone coverage in most places in the area my work takes me to places where there is poor or no coverage at all. I make every endeavour to access my messages later in the day after work and as coverage improves. There is a message bank on my landline and I check Airbnb regularly. There is mobile phone coverage in the area around the bach but you might need to walk around to find your perfect spot. The road to the property winds down a picturesque landscape overlooking farm lands across the harbour to dazzling white silica sand and harbour and ocean views. Further north on your way to Cape Reinga turn left at Te Paki Stream and hire a boogie board for some dune boarding on the giant sand dunes. After you've been to the Cape wander back to Tapotupotu Beach for a dip in the crystal clear water or wander along the lovely sandy beach. Stop in at Waitiki Landing further south for an icecream and head to Spirits Bay if you have time and enjoy the seemingly endless sandy and shingle beach. If you don't have time continue south and stop at Te Kao store and I'd challenge you to try to finish one of their giant ice cream cones. If you've booked for a couple of nights there's still time to visit either 90 Mile Beach, Rarawa Beach or Henderson Bay. Grab a beer at NZ's northernmost pub at Houhora or sit down to fish and chips at Pukenui. All this within 40-60 minutes of Mother Jimmys Bach. Try it. You won't be disappointed.
If you love the peace and quite this is the place
  • Great place, highly recommended!

  • An amazing location for getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. All the amenities you need and we loved the timber floor in the living area.

    Herbert2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very special little place. Out of way, so quiet private. Lovely kauri floors, comfortable furnishings, and everything you need the kitchen. Sit on deck and breakfast in the morning sun as the white sands shine over the harbour.

  • This was our first ever Airbnb experience, and it was a great one! The house is very new and well designed, the kids loved the glowing floor. Carol was a very friendly host, and she showed us where we should visit while we were there. The location is great too, all n all a very amazing experience! Would recommend to anyone visiting the 90 mile beach area.

  • Beautiful place and setting, and wonderful hospitality. We wish we had stayed longer. One of the best Airbnb stays ever. Thank you, Carol and Joe!

  • This accomodation is modern, clean & is all round amazing! All amenities provided to make your stay comforting. The property is located about a 10 minute drive away from 90 mile beach where you can drive on to the beach (if you have the right car) Our family of 5 enjoyed the friendly hosts (Carol & Joe) who live across the lawn. They even brought us some fish fillets which their son had caught earlier that day. The kids really enjoyed having no technology and embracing the outdoors. Feeding the eels and playing with the hosts friendly cat Marley. The floor throughout the house lights up at night from the glow stones which are built into the floor. These were so cool!! We will definitely return in the future to stay again. We didn’t want to leave! There is no downsides to this accomodation at all.

    Serena2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, comfortable and stunning :) Jo gave us a super warm welcome with fresh watermelon after a long days travel. Carol and Jo have a gorgeously designed place with native trees and birds in abundance. The kids loved the eels in the pond too! Pukenui is a choice stopover with great food options, playground and easy access to the cape - highly recommend staying at Carol and Jo’s place!

  • We started our day joking about staying in a farm stay, then it ended with finding Karen’s Farm. Was the best farm stay experience, wish we had more time to just relax and take it all in. We will definitely be back and for longer next time to play with all the dogs and animals! Karen did such a great job making us feel comfortable and at home. Which isn’t easy to do when you have less than 24 hours.

  • A lovely little farm house located in the rural area of Pukenui. Karen and her family are a very sociable and welcoming bunch of people who made us feel relaxed and homey. Our son was lucky enough to be able to help Karen feed the farm animals, which became the highlight of his stay. A great choice if you want to experience classic kiwi countryside life.

  • Jenny is a very nice hostess. She greeted us very friendly and said goodbye with a warm hug. We had a lot of fun with Jenny. We enjoyed the view that you had from everywhere. It was a very quiet environment, but you still did not feel alone. A very good accommodation to explore the northern tip of New Zealand. A nice hostess, a nice house and a beautiful environment. We really want to recommend Jenny's house.

  • We had a great time. Peaceful spot, and just a short drive to the beaches. Jenny was an excellent host, and went the extra mile.

  • Lovely peaceful spot - a good place to stay for exploring Cape Reinga.

  • Fantastic place! Very modern and comfortable. Had everything we needed. Beautiful location but you would need a car. There seemed to only be one place to get food nearby and it was delicious. The guy at the takeaway was buying the fresh fish from locals as we ordered and it was the nicest fish I've had. I highly recommend this staying here

  • This is outstanding place and great value. Very spacious house which is recently renovated tastefully. Big parking space outside for multiple vehicles. Also covered parking available. Big wraparound decking around the house. With great hangout space with plenty of area to relax outside in shade. Plenty of trees around so house is very cool once you open windows and doors. Pukenui is very slow paced beautiful place. There is a supermarket close by. Plus beautiful hidden beaches with hardly any crowds. This house is perfect base to explore winter less north.

  • We absolutely loved staying here, the house was clean and spacious with lovely fresh linen and comfy beds. The beach is just at the end of the driveway and the Houhora Harbour is stunning. A great base to explore further north. Just up the road from 4 Square. We would happily have stayed much longer. Don’t leave without visiting Henderson Bay and Rarawa Beach, maybe the most beautiful beaches in the world :-)

Central to the northern most New Zealand peninsula, it is the perfect spot to set up a base for exploring the area. Your hosts have superb knowledge of this part of the country, and are more than willing to help you plan your day. We were treated like family, and were very sorry to have to move on. We would have liked to spend more time with our new friends! Great value; I would recommend this Bach with no hesitation.

They go above and beyond for their guests and cater for your needs if they can accomodate. Just reminds you of being at home and was also great meeting new people on your travels. Definitely recommend staying here if you get the chance, you won’t regret it!

  • Paul and Katalina are very welcoming and friendly hosts and have created a beautiful, homely and fun lodge which is in a great location for travelling further north to Cape Reinga or exploring the wonderful Karikari Peninsula and Doubtless Bay. Lots of extra nice touches including the use of a lovely deck at the top of the house, free range eggs given to us by Katalina and a range of breakfast cereals, tea and coffee also provided. This is wonderful spot and I wish we could have stayed longer than one night but would highly recommend it and hope to be back one day. We booked very last minute and were still made feel very welcome and greeted on arrival. Thanks for sharing your awesome lodge with us :).

This is a holiday studio that has one main living area with wardrobe, bed, kitchenette, TV and a ranch slider that opens onto a deck with table and chairs and a small (private) garden area. There is a separate private bathroom accessed via a door from the living area. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and vanity with mirror. It is perfect for singles or couples who want a comfortable place to stay with quality modern facilities.
The studio is completely separate from the main house and has its own fence for privacy. The clever Ikea bed doubles as a sofa and pulls out to form a Queen bed for two. This area has superb fishing and easy parking and launching from Rangiputa Beach which is just down the road. Relax and unwind on the deck with a beer or wine in hand. Go for a short walk to Rangiputa Beach, a beautiful and safe swimming beach with crystal clear blue water. A five minute drive will take you to Puheke Beach where you can surf, collect pipis or send out a long line to catch some fish. There is a choice of world class beaches in the area including the iconic Matai Bay. For golfers there is a course at the Carrington Wine Estate that also offers great coffee, food and of course wine tasting. A great place to be to enjoy the best of the Far North. Cape Reinga and 90 mile beach are easily accessible to the North and you can sledge down the sand dunes at Te Paki on the way. Go swimming with Dolphins, surf, dive, fish or do nothing but enjoy the sunshine and relax. Historic Mangonui is a 30 minute drive away and features restaurants, bars and shopping. The world famous Mangonui Fish Shop sits over the water and you can enjoy the harbour views whilst eating your favourite fish. Kaitaia is 35 minutes drive away and has a cinema, restaurants, a large Pak n Save supermarket plus all the major New Zealand brands like the Warehouse, Noel Leeming etc.
